Yelp....You are the best. We were driving on the 44 and looked this place up. Kinda off the Interstate but a good find. The food was pretty good, I wouldn't say authentic. The Salsa looked and tasted like it was from a jar, The Margaritas were okay if you don't like the taste of alcohol. So if you find yourself rolling through Rolla don't be afraid to stop there.

How do you pronounce the name? Who knows. And who cares, this place is good. Not going to blow anyone out of the water, but good, standard Americanized Mexican fare.

Two things are surprisingly good here: the carnitas and the shrimp soup. Would recommend either of them to anyone. The service is also very friendly here and they remember you after your second visit. Only downside is that it can get a bit smoky when she smoking section is packed, but I am willing to look past that. Best Mexican food in Rolla IMHO.

Good value for OK food. The staff is always nice and the place is kept clean. The menu is versatile and there is something for everyone. I've been here a few times. I personally prefer El Rodeo, but El Maguey is my second choice. Family friendly and budget friendly. Great drink specials.

Oh boy! Coming back for dinner was the right move! We started with the chips and salsa (ate waaay too many) and blended margaritas. The margaritas were perfect - frosty and tasty and the right amount of booze. Next time we'll walk over and get a pitcher! :-D Boo got the mixed fajitas - he loved them! I tried a shrimp and it was perfectly cooked. I went for the carnitas plate - the carnitas were so tender and flavorful! I was floored. Everything was so delicious - and the portions were so generous that we had a whole meal leftover! Way to go, El Maguey!

If I could give less than one star I would. The place is not very clean. Instead of standing around the employees could stand to use a bottle of windex and some paper towels to clean the windows, doors, tables etc. The salsa was very ordinary, thin and rather bland. It was served in a small decanter with a saucer. Not even a bowl, a saucer. It made no sense. We ordered guacamole which came out of a jar. The entrees were not appetizing and were pre frozen then microwaved. They were served watery and tasteless. I couldn't eat mine after looking at it. Luckily the waitress didn't charge me for it. I would never recommend this place.

Started with chips and salsa. My wife would have loved the salsa, it tasted like tomato paste. For me not so much. The burrito was not bad, could have had more meat. Had side of Mexican rice and again bland. This is the best mexican I have had this far north.

Eh. Exceptionally average Mexican food. To be expected though in Rolla. Wasn't bad. Wasn't great. Most things were under seasoned and lacked flavor. Chips nearing the point of stale as well.

Ok why I liked this place 1. Good and authentic Mexican food. 2. Friendly and cooperative staff. 3. Spacious along with privacy, 4. There is a bar with karaoke. 5. You get enough good on your plate(don't have you order the same item again)

Decent Mexican food in Rolla. Bonus points for not being a chain in chain-heavy Missouri. Cheese dip is the fake white cheese, salsa was decent. I liked my chicken enchiladas, and my husband liked his cheese enchiladas.

I'm a Texan and should have known better than to try Mexican food in Missouri. The salsa was bland, the fajitas were rubbery, and the margaritas were flavorless. The service was friendly and laughed, motioning at everyone around us, when I asked why there was no spice in the food.

Excellent authentic Mexican food. Full bar, music on Friday night, and drink specials all week. Thirsty Thursday is always fun! Foosball table and satellite TV. Every dish I've ever tried here has been wonderful. Reasonable prices. Great service.

I have only been in Rolla for month and was gone for a week of that time. I have however found time to eat here three times and it is great food. It is very fresh and authentic food that has a great flavor without the grease. I have ordered many different items on the menu already and have no complaints. Mondays they have great margarita specials and they actually have a good tequila flavor. The dining area is quiet but it is a little small. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to suggestions if you ask.

Consistently good-I've eaten here a few times each year for ten years, and have never had a bad meal. Shrimp soup is good, but the typical combo plates are filling tasty and cheap.

Love this place! We visit 1-2 times per week. The food is wonderful and the drink specials are especially good on Thursdays! My current favorites are the shrimp fajita nachos, Jalisco, and chili verde!! All awesome. A great place to hang out with family and friends!

El Maguey is a great place for mexican in Rolla. On thursday nights the place is packed due to some alcoholic drink specials. Generally the service is great if you get one of the family members. Although there are a few waitresses that I keep getting that seem a little shoddy. Thus, the four stars.

This is a good place. The service is awesome. The chips which are served as starters are really good an hot and the sauce offered is really good. There are a lot of variety on the menu and the food offered is really good and spicy. The ambiance is also really cool. Really enjoy hanging out with friends at this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
