I had amazing sushi while the rest of my family had hibachi. The chef was wonderful and the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return.

I've only made it out to the midwest a handful of times, but this has been a nice respite from fried balls of cheese smothered in gravy and served by a four hundred pound 18 year old! The cut of filet I had was actually FANTASTIC and cooked to a nice medium rare just like I asked for. I've had a few of the sushi rolls (though I don't recall the names of them) and found them to be quite good, particularly since we're nowhere near an ocean! The Dragon Ball (which I ordered simply due to the fact that I love the anime) turned out to be delicious. I had all of this at the bar which was thankfully a full bar. They make a pretty tasty Moscow Mule and have a good selection of whiskeys (Bulleit 10 year was of note to me). I may not be the best person to ask about price though since I come from Los Angeles and everything out here seems hilariously inexpensive to me, but suffice it to say that I came in well under what I normally would spend on the amount of drinks and food that I ordered.

I am a fan of hibachi steak houses. This is another good one! While I can't say that it was awesome, it wasn't bad either. It is the standard hibachi with soup, salad, and then your entree. I was surprised that they didn't throw egg or shrimp at the guests to try to get them to catch it in their mouth like most other places do, but at the same time, I don't like catching it so I wasn't sad they didn't do it.

Visited here after the death of my Grandmother, The staff did an excellent job of boosting the morale of the family and had a Sake Toast to the memory of Mary Ellen! I plan on returning here shortly with family to catch up and Enjoy excellent Hibachi fare!

Always pretty good. Get the filet meal and tell them rare, but no cold parts. I have found this will make it the perfect medium rare. A lot of times if you just say medium rare it comes out medium because they cut the steak Into tips which cook faster. The reason I can't give it 5 stars is the show part of it is a little dry. They tend to all just do the same thing and not really get into it. I have been to other places that are much more fun.

This is obviously a very popular restaurants for the locals and there were long lines on Saturdays. The food was very salty though. And it tastes more like Chinese food than Japanese. I would be pickier than locals since I live in California but there's gotta be better Japanese restaurants in the town.

This place is expensive but it's worth it. Food is always good, presentation is entertaining, and I leave full and happy. Go as a group or date! :-)

Like so many places I review in Missouri, I'm only at Tokyo when on a business trip. I can't say that anything here stands out from any other teppanyaki (sp?) restaurant that I've visiting. The food is good, the service is good and the "show" is nearly identical to Benihanna's. If you want something a little different than your standard mid-western fare, then you can go wrong with a visit to Tokyo Japanese Steak House.

Similar to my Lamar,MO review; if you are looking for a place to eat in Joplin on Yelp; you my friend are not a local. This town of about 40,000 is the largest in the area and home to your std. chain restaurants. Just don't forget, this is not Chicago. I ordered a Peroni @ the Joplin Olive Garden and the one they brought me had an expiration date about 10 months ago. I had him check in the back and he came back to apologize that the whole case is old. I suggested that they may want to take it off the menu. This is a Bud type of town, so when they decided to open a Japanese restaurant, I am sure they needed to pick a simple straightforward name: Tokyo Japanese. The restaurant serves pretty good sushi and the tapanyaki is well executed. The prices are decent and the filet/shrimp combo tastes great. They serve a mayo based sauce as a dip and locals seem to go nuts over it. On several occasions, I observed folks ask for multiple dishes of it and then refills. You can also buy it to go. Part of the "show" is to watch the servers, who are mostly young locals mispronounce the sushi names, etc. Sorry, I know its mean, but I can't help it. If you are looking for good food in the area, I recommend a visit.

DO NOT EAT HERE: I've been a pretty solid customer to Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse since they opened, i've really never had bad service there, and the quality of food has always been fairly par; I left my car there Sunday after having some drinks, Tuesday morning I went to Comers wrecker to get my car out of impound, a $95 decision not to drive drunk from a business I feel I've been pretty good to for many years is disheartening, and I promise they will never see another penny of my money!! I hope you take into consideration how much your business m means to them before you enter their restaurant..

There must be a competition in this town for who can cut and serve the thinnest slices of fish. I imagine the owners getting together to see who can serve the least fish for the money. Tokyo Japanese, creatively named as it is, is about average for Joplin. The food was ok, service was fine, but I have yet to figure out why when they have a sufficient amount of fish on display, they can't put more of it in the hand rolls.

Really good food, good place to get sushi. Prices a little high, but all Japanese steak houses are. Good place to take a date, or the family.

Great service. Our cook (Maverick) put on the best show I've seen. Been to several across US.

This place is absolutely terrific when you realize where you are...small midwestern cities (even some larger than Joplin) don't always have a Japanese steakhouse this good! We're lucky to have it. I really enjoy the decor, especially the smaller "private" dining rooms off to the North of the restaurant which is more enjoyable than being in the large main room. The hibachi meal is the draw for most people and I don't have any complaint with it, especially as the seafood sauce is my own personal fave! I also really like the box meals they serve at non-peak times, tasty and way too much food for one person to eat but it's nice to have that "problem" especially for the relatively tiny price paid. Deceptively sweet, well made sake cocktails to round out your special occasion meals make this a definite favorite with family and friends. In my limited experience, their sushi isn't the best but I know 2 diehard sushi aficionados who prefer it over other restaurants so it must not be too bad, either.

For a large chain Japanese restaurant, I thought it would be better. I have been to a fair amount of Japanese steakhouses in larger cities and the quality of food and service was much better than this one. The atmosphere is nice enough, but the food is not very good. My family and I eat sushi on a regular basis, but I would NEVER choose to come eat the sushi at Tokyo. Many times the rice was dry and crunchy on my rolls. If you order just the Habachi, you're probably ok because you can see your food being cooked and it's fresh. My brother took his girlfriend there to eat for their anniversary once and she received green chicken! When she flagged the waiter down, they tried to tell her it was supposed to be that way!!!! Obviously she didn't eat it, and when she told them she needed a box to put it in to take to the health dept, they changed their tune!! The wait staff is awful! They are not very friendly and the atmosphere is very much eat and get the hell out! I would recommend many other places in Joplin before heading to this one! If you are an out of towner, you may be very disappointed!

I really like this place. It is fun entertaining and good. The price is a little steep but completely worth every penny. You so much food. I have only order hibachi style of food there and have been satisfied every time. With the hibachi style meal you get soup, salad, rice, noodles and mixed vegetables. Then you get your choice of meat. I am personally a steak guy but they have pretty good shrimp and chicken

I've been a regular since they've opened. Here's the deal. I've had raw chicken. And I mean pink. I complained and it didn't matter. One time they forgot to cook my main course and the owner didn't care. The place is really outdated and is dirty. Bathrooms are really dirty. They have several good chefs. Lou, Jason and Maverick. The head chef, who is a shorter older chef, is just creepy. He has said rude and sexual comments to my wife where I have no desire to go back. We've complained but nothing is ever done. Disgusting.

First of all, food is okay. Nothing special. Sushi is okay. They have "bar" but that's a joke! No bartender. They really need to update and get rid of the nasty carpet. Place is dirty all over. Including the rest rooms. Make sure and not get "Jimmy" for your chef. Dirty and sweaty and rude. Plus he undercooks and is very sloppy.

I got carry out from here when I was in town for work. Just looking for something light and not typical, but more speicifically I was just craving sushi. I stumbled upon it since it popped up on google and the menu looked delicous so I gave it a try. Most of the time I will order from a place only if they have a website/ menu online which this place did. Makes it less sketchy which is something I always look for when I am ordering sushi. anything raw. The lunch menu was great and they had a lot of chouces for reasonable pricing. I ended upi going with sushi instead of hibachi and was very pleased with what i got. The value for 3 rolls which came with salad and soup was great! ($13.95 to be exact) The service was fast and friendly also. I would definitely go here again if I was in town. I wouldnt say its the best sushi I have ever had, but for a retaurant in a small town that is trying to be built up again I was very pleased.

If I'm in the mood for the hibachi experience, this is where I want to go. I like the look and feel of the place. I've been here many times over the years for different celebratory dinners and have always had a good experience. The food is good and prices are comparable to other hibachi restaurants. Lunch *Monday to Sunday 11:00a - 3:00p Dinner *Monday to Thursday 3:00p - 10:00p *Friday & Saturday 3:00p - 11:00p *Sunday 4:00p - 9:00p sushi, hibachi, & kitchen entrees are served all day.

The miso soup came out just above room temperature. The Sushi and Sashimi were good but nothing outstanding. Price was average for sushi and the service was quick and efficient. They do use frozen fish products but the ginger was fresh.
