After visiting the Truman Museum we were on our way to the airport but stopped here in the "ghost town" part of Independence for the most AMAZING mexican food we've had in Missouri. We will visit here every time we are in the area. The food is authentic, and at the same time provides unique combinations that were delicious. Our party had Rico's Smile, Chicken Enchiladas, Carnitas, and a la carte items... we also had their fresh on -the-spot-made guac (YUM) and award- winning (no joke here) mango salsa (comes with a kick!). The waitress was so friendly and chatty and shared upcoming events with us... it was nice to get the local scoop and hear about the area as we are not very familiar with the area yet. You simply must eat here if you have any appreciation for Mexican cuisine! Apparently they have some pretty darn good Margarita flavors too... (trying those next time!)

Well, surprise, surprise, surprise!! I was a little unsure about this. It WAS a beautiful day and it WAS Mexican food, which i could eat every day...so i agreed to try it with co-workers for lunch. As we wandered through the door and winding hallways we found our way to the large patio. Lively music filled the tropical feeling space as we we were greeted. I felt like we were family immediately. I wouldn't have minded the sun shining on us, but someone brought over an umbrella for us along with chips and salsa. All of us really enjoyed this little slice of paradise on a beautiful day with yummy tacos!!

Palomino's is a family owned and operated establishment. Everything on there menu is superb. I have been impressed with each visit. They are a family friendly restaurant on the east side of the metro. I personally go on Tuesdays for their $1 tacos. They have standard tacos as well as some of the more traditional selections. They have happy hour specials as well as daily food specials. Its location is a bit off the beaten path, but it is well worth trip. They make you feel like family here.

Everything homemade.. Not the largest portions but the quality makes up for it. Plenty to make you full and you leave having tasted quality Mexican food. Tamales great with home made red sauce. Even down to the beans as a side. Like none u have tasted. Friendly family owned. Don't let parking fool you. New thought it was closed for long time and e that no one was there but there is a large lot behind for parking. The lack of ambience actually adds to the ambiance. Feel like old school Mexico.

i really like their buffet, but they need to put more items on there. the salsa is good because it's hot. and the atmosphere is nice and quiet.

I came here on a Sunday because I had planned on trying out the buffet. They had tacos, rice and a few other things...but I decided to get something from the menu instead. When I got there the waiter gave 2 types of salsa; one was regular and the other was hot. They both were really good, but the regular seemed to have a little more flavor. I got a burrito with chicken, which was really good. I loved the fact that it came with fresh guacamole on it. The food was very inexpensive but tasted great! I also got a chili rellano and a fried chicken taco. The taco was okay and the chili rellano would have been really good to me if it wasn't coated with eggs. I had no idea that the chili rellano had egg on it because I've never had one that did. I told my waitress that I had no clue it came with eggs and asked if I coud get one made w/o eggs and she exchaged it for me. It was probably my fault for not reading the description before ordering(not sure if the menu says its coated w/ eggs or not) but she happily exchanged it for me. I will definitely be making more visits to this place. The only thing that I would change is to offer a little more variety for the lunch buffet. Other than that, the place is excellent. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the prices are very reasonable. Keep up the good work!

Just delicious. I heard of Palomino's because they won the salsa contest at Kauffman Stadium three years in a row. The restaurant itself is very close to where my grandparents once lived, so I was familiar with the neighborhood and it was easy to find. We parked in the back (more spaces and easier to get in and out). Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. I asked for a spicier salsa, and was given a couple of different options, including one of the prize-winning salsas after we told the waitress that was how we had heard of them. The other person in my party ordered tamales, and I had carnitas. Both dishes were delicious. The chips and salsa were good, although I'd certainly recommend asking for the spicier options if that's your thing. Everything was very fresh and cooked perfectly. I'm not sure if Fairmount is somewhere you would find yourself very often, but I thought Palomino's was definitely worth a special trip.

if you want nasty slop from Mexico then this place might be for you. We ordered the chimichanga and when it came out it tasted like fish which means they fried and cook the beef in the same oil as there fish. Service was not all that great as there is only one server on a Friday night and she had to help everyone including the bar. I have heard many great things about this place but I just don't see it. We've been twice but I won't ever go back. Mostly I've heard that there Sunday all you can eat buffet is there highlight and if that's the highlight there isn't much going for them. Also the location is in the old Jerry's restaurant and let me tell you it looks just like it did when I was a kid in the 1980s .

The best parking for this place seems to be in back, and don't get too lost on your way into the restaurant, it's a bit twisty turny from back there. Their salsa is good, drinks are 1 refill free. Good food. I tend to judge places based on their ability to do the basics, and their tacos are good. They've got flavorful meat, which I feel is important to your average taco. Sunday buffet was good too. Taco fixins, carnitas in red sauce, potatoes with onions, bbq chicken, rice and beans. I suggest throwing some of those carnitas on top of the potatoes.

Very friendly staff, was greeted with smiles and unlike a previous review stated, I saw nothing "rough" or objectionable in their demeanor or appearance (kind of a shady comment to make anyway frankly). We had the guacamole which could perhaps been served minus the less than ideal tomatoes but was otherwise tasty. Chips were fresh and the salsa was...OK. Not bad but just not really flavorful. The tamales were quite good. Fresh masa flavor and great not too saucy pork. The chicken and pork chimichangas had nice flavor, were cooked perfectly and also tasted freshly made. Not stingy with the tequila on the margaritas either which for 3 bucks may be the biggest allure to return. Would definitely go back. Friendly and attentive server and the place has a genuine homey kind of vibe I appreciate. A hair more spice in the salsa and they'd definitely get another star.

I'm a bit of a Mexican Cuisine whore/primadonna. I've been to many restaurants in the city from the well know, high dollar to hole in the walls since 1995. We dined in @ Palomino's tonight after my fiancé had the food @ the Mexican Fiesta @ Crown Center. I ordered what our wonderful waitress recommended (chicken topped with homemade chorizo & white queso). She then brought us regular salsa, hot, mango & the "rita hot" to accompany the warm fresh chips. I am in love with all four salsas and worried I would be full when my entrée arrived. It arrives & I'm even more in love! Fresh, moist, hot, flavorful & very reasonably priced! Great, knowledgeable, attentive service! Cannot wait to go back for the $7.99 Sunday brunch buffet!

I had seen this place on the way over to the MIL's house and wondered about it. The idle talk in the neighborhood was that it wasn't any good or mediocre at best. I thought considered the rather shabby surroundings on 24 Highway, that this place looked a bit more spruced up and even inviting. So, the other day, when the Red Hag (my old truck) shot craps on Broadway during the morning rush hour, we had taken the old beast over to Conklin Fangman (bad experience) to get the old wreck checked out. Anyway, we headed over to Independence to get a spare car for me to use while the beast was in Truck Hospital. I don't like to dwell too much on this type of drama so I suggested we take care of lunch first and get to the drama on a full stomach. It was probably a bit after one pm and we entered to restaurant and it looked clean and tidy and it smelled good. Like a Mexican restaurant should. There were only about 6 other customers in the place and we were quickly seated by a friendly young lady who took our orders. She brought back a small basket with about 25 tortilla chips and some salsa that tasted like it had been sitting for a couple hours. The salsa was in a tiny bowlet and only filled up about half way. Not a good way to start. I ordered 2 cheese and 1 beef enchiladas which came with beans and rice. My dining companion had tacos which he said were very flavorful with a good quality of meat and fresh toppings. When the server came back with more chips, this time it was a bigger more reasonably sized basket but God love her heart. She just did not want to fill up that salsa bowlet. She filled it half way. Eyeballed it and then allowed a few more drops to daintily drip off the main salsa container into our bowl. She smiled cutely and pranced off to check on our food. Meanwhile behind us, two rather rough looking "ladies" started rumbling about the Guacamole. One of them started speaking loudly about lettuce being mixed into it. Her complaints got louder and louder and the server visited her several times trying to handle the problem. We figured that what had happened was the guac was served on a bed of lettuce...probably a lot of lettuce and a meager serving of guac if the serving of salsa was any clue. Anyway, angry rough ladies left and here come the enchiladas and they were delicious. Absolutely no complaints about these little guys. Nice and tender and easy to cut. Plenty of cheese and onion and the hamburger one had plenty of beautifully seasoned meat. I was totally satisfied and I will definitely be back again.
