You wouldn't think much of Lucia's by just driving by it. It's a tiny little hole in the wall, if you blink you would miss it. My mom took me here for lunch one day, and I was blown away! The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly. I love the guacamole, it was awesome. Best known for their tacos, but don't miss out on the rest of the yummy menu!!

Like everyone else said it is a hole in the wall and you might miss it if you don't know what you are looking for. Greeted right when you walk in the door, you may think it's self service but their is waiter service, very friendly i might add. Keep in mind, I think they close at 7pm. We went on a Tuesday night around 5:30pm. Not busy at all. My boyfriend got 6 fried tacos and loved them, I ordered the vegetarian platter which was delicious, bean burrito, cheese & onion enchilada, with rice. It's called the vegetarian platter and was mighty tasty but I think it was a bit too tasty. I suspect pork of some sort in their beans. Not positive but I'd find out for sure before going back. We started with the white cheese dip which, white cheese dip is always good. We went because of a Groupon, my boyfriend will definitely return, I may need to do some investigating before I return but it's a possibility.

Worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Rude employee (manager's niece). She talked to us like we were idiots, gave rude looks and then when it was time to check out and pay.... she didn't say anything. Not how was your meal, etc. She swipped our card, through our receipt at us and turned around and walked off. I chased her down. asked her to speak with a manager, and she stood and argued with me in front of the entire restaurant about how she didn't do anything wrong. I told her I just wanted to speak with a manager so she said sure I'll go get my aunt but I didn't do anything. Manager came out and was very pleasant. Only positive thing from the visit to this restaurant. We explained to her and she apologized... however the employee just stood off to the side laughing at us and nothing was said to her about it. Apparently her behavior was perfectly acceptable. SERIOUSLY THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT! WE WILL NEVER BE BACK! Disappointing.

Wow, what a major disappointment! I decided to try this place after seeing it for years... And I wouldn't recommend it. I had ordered a chicken enchilada and a side of mexican rice, and a lime margarita (they only have lime). The chicken was watery and had no flavor, the tortilla was soggy and the rice was dry. The margarita wasn't good either. The service was the only thing nice about here...

Ewww.... The address I have is 600 E US HWY 24 Independence, MO 64050 I bought a Groupon for this place and drove 20 minutes to get here. It said "Voted Best Tacos in Kansas City"...well, let's see about that! The sign at the door says they are a family operated business so they're closed on holidays. Oh, OK.. I have no problem with that as long as you're comparative with the big "playas" like El Maguey and El Fuente... The building is an old church for sure. NO music. And because it is cathedral style, each voice and noise is more pronounced. Decor is dull and not festive at all. Floors and the ceilings are dark. Lighting does not compensate for this downer. We were seated and waited and waited... Finally, a waitress shows up apologizing because they "got hit all of a sudden". While I sympathize...why does it matter to meeee? Water and chips with salsa finally come in. Chips are good, thin and crispy. Salsa is ehhh...cut up ketchup bottle is presented as hot salsa and water bottle filled with mild salsa....OK...We do get two saucers and I saw that other couples after us weren't so lucky. They got Styrofoam cups! Salsa....totally bland....hot and mild...I know good salsa from my ex-mother-in-law who's from Mexico. And, this was soo blah I couldn't even save it with salt and pepper. MENU: let me say this about the menu: First, It is too confusing! Second, lunch menu has items in it but if you want rice or beans or both - gotta pay extra. Lunch menu is around $7.25 and I'd expect the usual with it. Oh...I didn't order the lunch menu because I wanted rice and beans. So, my order came from the platters' part of the menu. Lastly, menu is offensive. On top of each page it says "no substitutions please". I NEVER appreciate that! I want what I want because I am paying for it. If I want to sub lard for black beans and you have it in the kitchen AND I am willing to pay for it.....get it then! But, let's go on... We ordered: #11 and # chimichanga (sorry it's toward the bottom but I don't remember the number). # 11 is a burrito, enchilada, and taco with rice& beans. Let's see the best taco in KC...shall we... $9.25 # chimichanga is that with white cheese sauce and beans&rice. $10.00 My husband asked me if it was good for the money and my response was...depends on the portions...Mind you we are there for lunch! And the answer is....NOOOO! Food came in fairly quickly. My plate is oval: burrito is haphazardly laid on its side with a bit of cheddar cheese sprinkled, taco is double tortilla'd and clearly fried with some kind of garlic salt or something like that stuck on it. Enchilada is cheese and onion (hey! no subs please!) rice and beans side by side with another dose of cheddar cheese on the pinto beans. We try the taco first (we were "allowed" to choose chicken), it was crispy but the chicken was bland. The dusty stuff on it made it very salty. We decided to salsa the heck out of it. Well, that didn't help... Portions are mediocre. Enough to fill but nothing going home. I liked the enchilada but it was nothing special. Chimichanga was with ground beef. My husband hated it but I liked it. But again, nothing to pay ten bucks for. Burrito was with chicken...but hey, we were allowed to choose that too. BLANNDDDDD.... Kicker...my husband's chimichanga had a hair from some kind of a brush and I pulled it out. Rice was actually good albeit a little too salty. Beans were soupy only to be hid by the cheddar cheese dumped on them. I still liked it but could do better at home. We did have left overs but neither one of us wanted to take them home. We paid our Groupon + tax. Sorry but they were too inattentive and I don't tip for that! Ahh....and the finale... We were sent off with a sign erase board sign: "Sorry, no guacamole today!". Indicative of how many stars I gave this place, I WON"T BE GOING BACK! We like trying new things so it is normal to get a downer once in a while.

When Lucia's was at there old, small location, they were the best in town. Once she moved into her bigger restaurant, the quality and taste went away. What used to be the best taco in KC quickly was no better than Taco Bell. What happened to the food?!! We have tried the new place four times and each time it gets worse. We asked today if the guacamole was made-to-order because we wanted it without huge chunks of onion. The waitress said yes, we make it to order bit the onions are already mixed in (??????!!!!). Service is just okay. Not friendly, not rude, not absent but not as attentive as they should be. Our taco meat was so so so salty I couldn't eat it. The texture of the Spanish rice was that of instant rice re-heated. The white cheese dip tasted to be out of a can and lukewarm. Prices have been raised since the move. The menu is jumbled and has the words NO substitutions all over it. Uh, I pay, I choose what I eat. Up charge me if thats the concern. Bottom line, no longer KCs best tacos. Lucia needs to get ahold of her kitchen staff and retrain them because the food is terrible. What a shame. Used to be a great place.

Love this place. I saw a review claiming best tacos in KC; I cannot argue with that. They are closed on Mondays...so make sure you check their hours first. Homemade salsa and guacamole...enough said.

I went to this restaurant last night because I was told that it was good "tex-mex". The atmosphere was not very good and we were also sat it a corner. This is probably the first time I have gone to this type of restaurant and not been given chips and salsa as we waited for our appetizer. We ordered guacamole for an appetizer. The guacamole was very bland but they did use fresh avocados. Both myself and my husband received our entrees within a reasonable amount of time. My enchilada was cheese and onion. Raw onion and cheese with a dose of canned enchilada sauce. Yuck! My taco with shredded beef was extremely salty as were the black beans. I could not eat any more. We asked for our check so we could go somewhere else, and we did. The waiter did ask us finally how our food was and I told him I could not eat the food and I just wanted the check. As we left the "owner" at the register said, "I heard you didn't like your food, no one else has complained. What was wrong? When we told her what was wrong, all we got was attitude. I will never go back even though she didn't make us pay for our meal.

She just moved across the street into the old Waid's. Let's get out there and give her the business!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
