Healthy Meal suggestions for Cracker Barrel

i really should know better. i DO know better. i hardly ever eat at chain breakfast restaurants because i'm always disappointed. but, after a week of eating cheesy hotel breakfasts, i really did want to have something that resembled real eggs, and i didn't want to have to travel very far. i had a co-worker recommend this place, and so i went to check it out. it was a saturday morning, just a little after 9, and the place was packed. my "party of one" had to wait just a couple of minutes before being seated. their menu was a little hard to navigate. i was just looking for a standard two-egg breakfast with potatoes and toast, but it was not on the menu. and then they had a special with sweet potato pancakes that looked quite tasty, but i only wanted one. my waitress rescued me and found a way to get me what i wanted - even if it wasn't on the menu. actually, the service is the only reason this place gets two stars from me instead of one. they were attentive, filling coffee and water when i needed it. however, once the food was served, my waitress was nowhere to be found. everything was cold. the eggs were lukewarm. the toast was cold. the potato casserole was cold (but did have a great flavor). the pancake was lukewarm. the toast did not come buttered, and the butter was an unspreadable brick. the pancake came with a dollop of what tasted like brown sugar butter - a gritty sugary mess. the pancake itself wasn't half bad, though. and the coffee came hot. is there ever an excuse for cold food? i know it was busy - and yet it seemed like there were quite a few staffers that were standing around (bussers waiting for tables to leave?). it's a mistake that i will not experience from them again - because i will not be back. the "eggs" at the hotel are better - at least they are served hot.

The service was good and the waitress and manager were very friendly, but it is very difficult to find anything remotely healthy on the menu here. Three of us shared 3 dishes: pork steak, fried chicken, and grilled trout. The trout and fried chicken were ok to good, but the pork steak was awful - very dry and without flavor. On the positive side, the food was not too salty.

This Cracker Barrel had a store attacked to the restaurant. The store was filled with US military promotions like rocking chairs, shirts, religious crosses (Christian religion only, non-Christians are not welcome there) and even a child's us army uniform. I felt that I was in some kind of a military recruitment center. In the restaurant there were military pictures and a helmet and guns on the wall. The restaurant goes out of its way to demonstrate that those who are anti-war are not welcome there. Also, the restaurant was crowded when we went on Sunday and we had to wait for 15 before even a drink order was taken and this was after we talked about leaving in earshot of the waiter. The ham was tough, the biscuits and gravy were dry, overall the food was 2 out of 5 stars but the hostile pro-war atmosphere was what prevents me from giving the place more than one star.

Traveling the roads and highways of Missouri, a familiar place along the roadside that translates into comfort and that place is Cracker Barrel. I have eaten at many of them and I am an established fan. Cracker Barrel is an experience in itself, almost always there is a wait for a table which leaves you time to walk around their country store looking in amazement at the assortment of crap and assorted what knots. The food is awesome, and the portions are large which is always a good thing in my book. I have mainly eaten CB for breakfast items only, and I stand by them 100% on taste, quality, and quantity. on the few times I have eaten dinner they have been just as satisfying and fulfilling. The service is always good, with repeat visits to the tables, and endless Ice teas, sodas and coffee, and that too is a winner as far as I'm concerned. This place always satisfies me, but don't just go by my words, do yourself a favor and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

This was by far the worst cracker barrel I've been to. It seems like the service is declining all over though. Everyone's food came out luke warm. The restroom was dirty and no one seemed to care that we had a complaint.

Took another look. We have started going back to this restaurant for our weekend breakfast. The old manager is back after being away for over a year. Service has greatly improved. Our food was served without a long wait. Servers were attentive and it was back to being an enjoyable experience. Amazing turn around.

Slow slow service. I waited about 10 minutes before a server came and got my order. She didnt tell me any of the specials. Maybe she was super busy. I asked for extra lemons, I got 1, in my cup. The food was delicious. I didn't want brown sugar in my sweet potato which I thought normally they ask if I want them or not. After I was done eating, I am now waiting about 15 minutes with no ticket, no acknowledgement, as im sitting here writing this review. I guess I just caught this server on her off day.

Every once in a while I get a hankering for comfort food. Cracker Barrel always delivers. It isn't trying to be a fusion or a chopped champion eatery, just good old fashioned country food. I have never had a bad meal here. This location in Fenton happens to be on a route I frequent thus I've been here more often but I have frequented other Cracker Barrels as well. First of all they serve breakfast all day! Real breakfast with cornbread/biscuits. I tend to get the blueberry pancakes because they are incredible! Juicy fresh blueberries in the pancakes with just the right crisp on the edge. Then they top it off with blueberry syrup. My other favorites include their dumplings and their grilled trout. My only complaint is that it is always sooooo hard to get my kids out of the store. The service is always wonderful and the food just what I expect. Know what you're getting into when you stop in at a Cracker Barrel and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Was not impressed with the food I ordered. I ordered chicken n dumplings, so bland. First time there and last.

To sum it up: Nursing home food! No need for teeth here. Plates of southern mush. Tired? Plenty of rocking chairs out front while you wait for your table. Place made me tired.

I like their lemonade. Great deal because it's refillable for 2 something. I also like thaeir country fried steak ^,^

Cracker Barrel is just a good food place. Yes, it's a chain. I don't even think about it being one tho, for some reason. Perhaps because it's so good and doesn't remind me of McDonalds. The dumplings are to die for. As for this particular CB, I found the service amicable, prompt, and eager. I found nothing to complain about.

I took a busload of seniors in wheelchairs and walkers here and our experience was GREAT. I called ahead an hour (they can't take reservations, but they CAN take warnings! :) ) The employees were ready when we came in with three large cleared tables. An employee held the door open for myself and my three other staff members to wheel people in, By the time I got my last senior into her seat, the server had gone through the menu with each of my residents who were already seated and taken their orders. She definitely went above and beyond the call of duty! The food came very quickly and the server was plenty attentive and helpful. Then, when it came time to check out, the manager checked me out and offered me little envelopes to put each of my residents' change into, a pen to label the envelopes and a stapler to staple the receipts. She was also very facilitating about putting a predetermined percentage tip on each ticket so the experience was less confusing for the seniors. An A+ experience - my busful of seniors and I will be back!

hey if you want some comfort food and you're out and about this is a good choice. I forgot how much I liked the chicken and dumplins, and don't forget to ask for apple butter with your biscuits.

I come here way too often. It's often filled with old people or families with kids. Sometimes I feel like I should rent an old person just to fit in. I've never seen another group of 20 year olds come in here on their own.. Their chicken and dumplings are fantastic. But that's pretty much all I've ever ordered so I'm not sure about the rest of their food. They serve breakfast all day which seems to be a plus for other people I have gone with. Service is always good, even when they are busy. The store in the front has some awesome candy I haven't even given a thought since I was little. Their frozen lemonade mugs are awesome too. :)

It was my first time at a CB, never really knew what was inside. I know it was trying to go for the feeling of my grandmother's farm kitchen -- that either is or is not your thing. The service was friendly and prompt, and the kids menu was good as far as they were concerned. Adults had meatloaf sandwich and a turkey+stuffing lunch plate. It was all pretty standard, two stars says "no compelling need to try it again unless I am on a road trip again and am passing one when everyone is hungry." Note to first timers: the store is at the front, so if you are visiting with kids be prepared to pry things out of their hands as they walk in and out of the dining area.

We all know Cracker Barrel is good for breakfast and good southern comfort food, but do you know what else they are good for? Christmas decorations. Most of my Christmas ornaments, garland, tree topper and other holiday decorations came from CB. When guest are visiting and ask where I got my festive and unique decorations, they are shocked and amazed that they came from Cracker Barrel. The prices are affordable and they look as if they came from a pricey boutique. So next time you are feasting at CB, stop in the Country Store and shop.

I had the best old time meal in this restaurant. Our server was a real nice lady, Kim.E, I think was her name. Sweet as a pie, never forgot to refill our drinks, friendly, brought our food in a timely manner and the food was amazing. When I didn't like the green beans because it tasted a little bland and too soft for my taste, she took it back and told the chef to make a new batch and the second time it came out, it was perfect as it can be. The sweet tea is a killer! Will always come back for more and the cute store was so adorable. We shopped there while waiting for our table. We were told it would be 25 minutes wait and within 10 minutes we were already seated on our table. Amazing place and if you'd like a plain simple old time breakfast or dinner, I really recommend this restaurant.

This particular Cracker Barrel location has become a favorite for my posse post-camping/float weekend. I have been to this location multiple times and never had a bad service/food/overall experience. The service is usually swift and efficient even during the busy hours. Last weekend, we were reluctant to dine after perusing the parking lot, which was packed. We walked in and were seated within minutes. We were served very quickly as well. The food is always scrumptious. Props to Janell as she is a phenomenal server! I love love love the chicken fried chicken for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Their biscuits are also amazing.

The apple n pecan French toast was amazing! It was sooooooo delicious! Other items were good too but we can't stop thinking about their incredible French toast and oh, also their apple butter which we ordered along with toast for our omelette. But the best thing was the service! Wow! We've eaten in tons of places from mom & pop dives to really elegant restaurants with formal black tie, but never had a waitress like this! Julia was so friendly and sweet; waited on our table more often than expected and very thoughtful about all the smallest details. She is smiling always and genuinely had a sunny disposition! Perked us up instantly despite our very long drive across the country! She seemed to have the same effect on our neighbors in the restaurant. This girl is a hard worker and definitely needs a raise!! I can't remember ever being pleased with any server this much!! I do hope that she has better opportunities to make avail of in the future - a person like that should go far in this world and not be just waiting tables. Good luck, Julia! Give this place a try!

My tip or comment that I left when I checked in said "Walmart of restaurants". In other words it is eclectic in the positive and negative. But the people who eat here are interesting. And I think I am interesting too. :). Place is packed and service is as good as it can be expected with such crowds. I ordered the Uncle Herschel. Which gave me country ham, eggs, biscuit, and hash browns. For those who are not familiar with country ham in short it is salt cured has somewhat of a gamey taste. You will need about 6 liters of water after eating. So good tasting but so salty. Food and drink $10 person. Now you know why I said Walmart. :)

It's a Cracker Barrel, so what can I possibly say about this one that doesn't apply to other ones? Maybe I'm not creative enough, that's possible. Standard service, standard food, standard experience.

I was looking forward to Cracker Barrel my whole trip to St. Louie and when I finally found the time to go I was really disappointed in the food. The store was fabulous (mind you pretty expensive) but the food was mediocre at best. I got the chicken and dumplings, which frankly I might be a hard sell on because I have the best recipe from my grandma at home, but they were just really sub par. I also got the vinegar veggies and those I could barely digest.. And The macaroni and cheese tasted like it was from a can. So I'm sure I will go again when I'm back on that side of the country but I think i will try breakfast items

I had the best chicken salad sandwich today at lunch. The fries were great. The slaw was LESS than a sampling but still yummy. However, the fact that I had to pass everyone else's food and drink down the table should have made my food free since I worked for it. That being said IF I didn't have to work for it the food was reasonably priced and the perfect amount for lunch.

We only go to the Cracker Barrel on rare occasions, when in the area. The first time it was great, but every time since, we've enjoyed less and less. Today was the worst. I will say that the country fried steak was very good, but all the sides (mashed potatoes, corn, carrots) were bland and mushy. When we arrived it was very busy, as time progressed there were very few people in our area of the restaurant. Still we only saw our waiter when we ordered and when he gave the check. At the end, he saw I was looking for him and at least came over so we could get a box to take the rest of the steak home. Oh, that's when he asked if I wanted a refill on my tea. Won't be going back.

My Husband and I prefer this location, even though a different one is closer. The food is always good and the servers are friendly. The wait time is usually about 10 minutes.

This place just sucks. Had a bland, lousy meal with mediocre service. Gave it a 2nd chance and I shouldn't have. The best part is looking at all the junk in the store and that little golf tee game. Its always packed on the weekends...I don't get it.

Yummy hash brown cassrole. I love coming here and since they don't have them in CA I have to enjoy them when I can.

Eew. Sausage is terrible, eggs are runny and I can barely choke down the French toast! Stick with lunch or dinner - breakfast is not their forte. The smell from their fire they had going was extremely pungent. Don't go unless you don't mind smelling like a bonfire.

Food is consistent & always tasty, however our last two trips here were so disappointing that my husband said he won't go back. Service has been horrible last 2 visits. So much so, that our food was nearly cold when we received it. On our last visit this past Sunday, we didn't get waited on. I had to stop a waitress and ask who might have our table, and it was her. She took 10 to 15 minutes to bring 2 cups of coffee out. After we ordered our food, it was at least 30 minutes before coming out room temperature, telling us it sat for awhile. We had to flag her down to get our check. We noticed a table of 2 had to actually walk to the kitchen door looking for her. What a shame - I have always loved Cracker Barrel.

Never like anything here except there breakfast. I have tried multiple times to have lunch or dinner and I never like the food. That being said however, I love the breakfast!!! Can't go wrong with the pancakes!!!

We have given this restaurant three or four tries but can't seem to leave happy. There are some dishes and sides that are pretty good. But the service is extremely uneven and overall food quality, including temperature and presentation, gets a C+ at best. Over promises and under delivers. This is true for this chain in general we have found.

I shudder at the thought of that place. Went there to meet up with my friend from KC - the food was chilly, service was lousy. It was a horrible experience and I would never go there again!

Oh man - Cracker Barrel. As far as these types of chains go, it's damn good. Armed with some wicked hangovers, and facing another lackluster trip to First Watch or Egg & I for an egg white spinach souffle or veggie whatever, we decided to take our toddler on his first Cracker Barrel adventure on a Sunday morning. Having spent plenty of groggy mornings/afternoons here when I was young & had an intact metabolism, it seemed like an excellent change of pace. First of all, the country store is a nightmare. And by that, I mean, it's a toddler's paradise - tons of stuff to look at & break. A complete wallet drain for the desperate parent. Fortunately, we only had a 15 minute wait, so that was a blessing. They have pretty good high chairs with open fronts, so it works well for bigger toddlers. Ours won't sit still in a booster yet, so the larger high chair was appreciated. Oh, and the high chair was clean, which is a rarity almost anywhere. They also have an excellent children's menu - we ordered pancakes & a yogurt parfait for Beth Jr. The pancakes were so good - almost like a beignet. I nearly had to spear Mr. Beth's hand with a fork to prevent him from stealing the baby's food. I had the Old Timer's Breakfast (eggs, hashbrown casserole, sausage, biscuits). Mr. Beth had Grandpa's Fried Country Breakfast, although I question how long Grandpa would survive if he actually ate this thing - chicken fried steak, mmmmm. Anyway, I just want to take a moment of silence to honor the fallen hashbrown casserole. It didn't last more than 10 seconds on our table before it was scarfed down - seriously, timelessly, awesome. And the biscuits aren't too shabby either - and they're basically bottomless (unlike me, now that I ate that monster breakfast). Service was excellent & the waitress was really attentive to our squirming child, and our frantic eating pace. In summary: Cracker Barrel = classic, good stuff. It's not showing up on the cover of Food & Wine magazine anytime soon, but it is what it is - cheap, fast, comfort chain food.

I feel like there there ate those that love Cracker Barrel and those they are indifferent am definitely in the second camp. Went yesterday for breakfast and it was alright. Although they were very busy, the service was good. The food was just OK. The eggs were lukewarm and nothing special. It just seems that there is nothing to write home about Cracker Barrel. Nothing horrible but nothing great. And sadly no, the country store with its trinkets and rock candy don't make the experience any better.

Service always quick and friendly. Food is always great. My favorite - the pancakes!!! Love the country store they have too. It is always a great place to find unusual Christmas gifts!!

I was craving meatloaf, and remembered liking what I'd had from other Cracker Barrel locations previously. My boyfriend was good enough to indulge me and my cravings. I ordered the meatloaf dinner which came with 3 sides and bread for $8.99. The meatloaf was as delicious as I remembered and my craving was completely satisfied. My homemade meatloaf is only better because I don't use whole onions as they cause me issues (but it was worth the slight discomfort later to not have to take the time to make it at home), so that's the only thing that made this imperfect. My boyfriend also got the meatloaf dinner, and liked it, but he's very picky. The 3 sides I chose were the dumplings, fried okra, and the new cucumber and tomato salad. The dumplings are yummy as always, but if you don't like "doughy" dumplings they wouldn't be for you. The okra was perfect in my opinion, not too heavily breaded or over fried. My boyfriend likes his fried a bit "darker", but I loved that they still had a fresh taste rather than just fried breading. The cucumber used and the grape tomatoes tasted good, but the sauce was extremely bland. So bland that it was hard to tell anything was there. As this is a new item, I figure there will be a learning curve, but there is definitely room for improvement. And of course, I had to get both the cornbread and biscuit, how to choose? My boyfriend got the corn, carrots, and mashed potatoes. He loved the carrots so much he had me try them, and they tasted a lot like brown sugar, but were well done. It was a cool day, so we were seated near the wood burning fireplace, which was nice, but I smelled like smoke for hours which aggravated my allergies a bit, so if this is an issue for you, keep in mind the fireplace may be lit on a cool day. Overall, we had a great meal and would definitely return.

Great place to eat! Although I generally consider most chain food joints to be pretty good, this specific place exceeded my expectations. Leah was our servers, and she was outstanding. Our daughter had a little accident and she didn't make a huge scene. In fact, she just helped us clean it up, and earned a nice tip. I would highly recommend this Cracker Barrel. Good food, great staff.

A new resident to Fenton, my family took me here for brunch on a Sunday mid morning. Inside is a small store full of random holiday decor, jewelry, and snacks/candies. As we arrived through the front door, we were greeted by the host who took our names and were told a 25 minute wait. My boyfriend and I found ourselves amused at the little gifts they had on display. The wait was not unbearable (actually better than I've experienced on a Sunday) and we were seated sooner than we knew. I looked over the menu and the fried boneless chicken caught my eye. My party of 4 all ordered it. Surprisingly, the food arrived shortly and I tell ya... that was the best boneless fried chicken I've had in a while! My macaroni was a mouth full of cheesy goodness and although I've had better corn bread, it complimented my meal well. Our server was friendly and kept her composure on that busy day. All in all, Cracker Barrel, this won't be the last time you'll see me :)
