I had very bad customer service in their drive through, heard employees talking about 'pussy' and the food was not up to par. When I called to talk to a manager, they seemed very unapologetic and unconcerned with their staffs' behavior. I will not be back.

stopped in here for a quick breakfast after visiting friends in Columbia. my husband and I were both a little amazed by how good our breakfast was. I deconstructed a sausage sandwich (sausage and and egg with two pancakes) and everything was cooked perfectly. the service was also great. I hadn't stepped foot in a Steak N Shake since I went to college in Illinois, but I will definitely return now before too long!

Had one of my worst dining experiences here. Took 5 minutes to get seated while 4 workers stood and looked at us. Took another 15 minutes for a server to come take our order. Got our sides with no drinks to show. Waitress didn't care at all. Got skipped over by two- three tables. Still no water as I wrote this. Worst waitress probably ever. No apologies or anything. Guess that's why I use the drive through... Management must not be on shift or care about their guest... F----

My favorite place to go when I need something greasy, good, cheap, and close to where I live. I've never been disappointed with the food here although they tend to get really jam packed with customers sometimes. Once, I had to wait in the drive through for over 20 minutes, but still, the food is always fresh tasting. Steak N Shake's chocolate milkshakes are so good and their Frisco burgers are fantastic. I don't go inside much for dining, but when I do, the service is always friendly.

I really like this location. The first time I came here was the very first time I ever tried Steak n' Shake. I ordered the sliders, which quickly became the only thing I wanted to order. I really like how they season the burgers however you want and they are on the five dollar and under menu. The shakes are a little pricey but they are really good. I haven't had any trouble being seated, but I have had my order messed up on a busy day. The wait can get long when there are a lot of people, but I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes. Checking out is fast, however. The atmosphere is nice, it's nicely decorated, but the layout allows you to see the waitresses very easily. Most of them can be seen standing and chatting with each other. I feel like most of the time, half of them are working really hard and the other half are giggling and telling jokes. The noise levels can get pretty high because there are a lot of kids that come to eat here.

While the place was pretty dirty, the young man preparing my breakfast did an awesome job. I haven't been to steak and shake for quite a while and decided to stop in while I was traveling through Columbia late at night, I am glad I did. My waitress was pleasant and attentive and for the first time in my life I made it a point to personally thank and tip the cook as well. Man he can cook!

I was a little disappointed with my most recent dining experience at Steak 'n Shake. The restaurant was very busy because of the kids eat free special, and our group of 8 had to wait for almost 30 minutes to be seated. We were not offered a menu to look at during our wait. When we were finally seated, things turned good as we were offered cardboard car making kits and paper hats. But then we waited almost 45 minutes for our food to be ordered, which mainly consisted of kids meals. Once the food did come, I was the only one not receive my plate because they had forgotten to put cheese on my sliders. 15 minutes later, I finally got them (and everyone else was almost finished eating). The waitress was very nice and apologetic and offered free milkshakes to all of us to make up for the bad wait time. We all obliged, but then had to wait almost 15 minutes for the shakes! The entire dining experience took about 2 HOURS. I would have rather had my time back than the milk shake. The only reason I didn't rate them with one star is because I have had better experiences when I was in a smaller group. So take my advice--Don't go there if you're in a large party.
