If I rated this on the clams and the waiter I'd give it 5 stars. It was a busy night in town with a Blues festival, this meant one waiter for the whole venue. He was awesome, he made the night, polite, professional, knowledgeable and apologetic. The food was not as good as the service. We started wit some oysters Rockefeller and clams Casino. The oysters were ok ante clams, although by no means casino, excellent. Sadly I was expecting clams casino, had I know it wasn't I would have loved them web more. The steak was cooked to my liking but was very fatty with a bad of connective tissue down the center. I ate around it, I was too hungry to wait. The waiter really was fantastic and although I probably won't go back here, I'd surely buy him a beer on my next trip to MO.

What a great place to eat. The food is amazing, service is attentive, and atmosphere is perfect. A great place to stop by after work or bring a date. The prices are high - but not unreasonable for the portions and quantity of food you get. I would highly recommend to anyone!

Had a terrible experience there. Waited for 45 minutes to be told our order could not be filled because the table next to us took the last prime rib. Trouble is, that party came in and were sat, and ordered AFTER us. When the replacement meal was ordered, it took another 30 minutes to get to us, and only after we went to track someone down to tell them we wanted it to go. Worst service I have ever had, bar none. Food was decent (when we got it!) but not good enough to go back and be treated that way again.

Awful experience! Went here for happy hour with a bunch of teachers (not crazy college kids). My husband and I showed up late after everyone had already ordered. To start off the evening, we had to ask the waiter what the happy hour special was (he didn't volunteer it). He said, "two for one singles." We didn't really know what that meant, so one of my husband's coworkers explained it to us (the waiter again didn't volunteer the information). My husband tried to order a Jack and Coke, but apparently Jack is too high dollar for Mackenzie's and was not included in the special (once again, I wish the waiter had specified before we tried to order). As I was sitting there trying to make up my mind, he did volunteer that house wines and drafts were also included. Problem solved. As he was walking away (he didn't give us much time), I said, "Wait, I'd like to order and appetizer." He didn't hear me...I don't really believe that, but whatever. Eventually, he came back and we tried to order an appetizer - they were out. I said I needed a minute more and while he was gone, our group told us the rest of the things MacKenzie's was out of for the night. Good to know - wish it would have come from our waiter. Finally, our waiter came back and I had decided on the Stuffed Burger. Below the listing, it said all the things that it was stuffed with (cheddar and jalapeño/onion and swiss/blue cheese and mushroom). He asked what I wanted in it. I said, "Everything." Apparently, that wasn't an option and it was my fault I didn't know that. Then I just got passive aggressive and didn't want the burger anymore. Ultimately, my husband and I went with two appetizers. The spinach and artichoke dip was good, the bacon wrapped shrimp was undercooked and not good (I wasn't in the mood to send it back). While all of this was going on, the rest of our group was having problems as well. Our librarian was told that she was being to loud (she wasn't). They had to beg for ketchup for their french fries. They also had to beg for bread. The waiter, overall, just had a really bad attitude. There are lots of little details that I really can't explain. Those details were probably the worst part of it all. Finally, the bill came. I told my husband that we were not going to leave much of a tip - they didn't give us a choice. 18% gratuity for horrible service. I was not okay with that, but I also didn't want to make a scene. I went up to the bar and politely told the less obnoxious server that I was not comfortable paying 18% gratuity because our service had been awful. He asked me what about it was awful and I told him many of the things that I have written here. He went back and talked to the chef (owner?) and came back and said he was sorry but that was their policy. Again, I was shocked - what happened to the customer is always right? As far as the food went, he said he would comp the shrimp since it wasn't good. I said, "Fine, you comp the shrimp, I'll pay the tip." But apparently, that didn't work for him. Finally he said, "If you and your husband will never come back, we will comp the entire meal ($38 after tip)." That sounded wonderful to me. I went back to the table to sit with my husband while everyone else paid. The "less obnoxious" waiter (at this point, I need to take the descriptor back), came up to us and from 4 feet away said, "I am sorry, not to be rude, but you two need to leave." Seriously?!!? I told him he was rude and got up and left. I left livid and hungry. I will NEVER go back, and not just because I "promised" them I wouldn't. There are much better places in Columbia as far as food goes and as far as service goes...well, I refuse to be treated like crap.

This is "our place"... Great service, delicious food (including a complimentary appetizer), romantic atmosphere... We live nearby, and it has become our standby for date night - proud to be a regular!

My wife and I love this place. Great service and value for the quality of the food. There are not many options on the north end of Columbia, and we have gone to MacKenzie's multiple times. Never had a bad experience.
