"Meh"xican...not bad, but definitely not good. Service was ok. The server was nice, but not particularly attentive. We had to ask for water refills, for a glass for beer, and for a drink menu. Had a margarita (not the house, but whichever is the one "better") and it was blah. Rimmed with table salt instead of coarse salt and pretty weak. Our food was ok- not worth the menu price, though. I ordered half size appetizer chicken flautas and it was a big portion. Everything tasted just ok. Just the same as every other little strip mall Mexican restaurant around. Though, we also ordered the Borrachos Beans and those were actually pretty tasty. Overall, we spent $75 on 2 adults (including a beer and a margarita) and 2 kids. Not worth the price and we won't return.

I was excited to try a new local restaurant in the Valley because it is saturated with chains. However, this place was not ready to be open. We sat outside and had a very nice server but the food is really what matters and it was terrible. We had a seven layer dip that looked like the entire thing came out of a jar or can. The chips basket was like a grab bag of tasty and terrible - half were stale and chewy and half were alright. The salsa tasted like a spicy ketchup. My margarita was overly sweet and overpriced for the quality. After having those items we decided not to eat anything else and left to have dinner somewhere else. I will not go back and I'm disappointed. Hope they can get it together or they will be closed soon.

I often keep it healthy and simple. That meant ordering off the menu to get a plate with just grilled chicken and Spanish rice. This was not a problem but the rice was rather dried out. The water tasted fine. My mother didn't care for her beef tacos because they used a combination of shredded and ground beef for reasons we could only speculate at. The atmosphere seems inspired by Chevy's, very Midwest country with sports on TV. Seeing as how you can get authentic Mexican down the street at Matador, it seems like coming here would be an insult to Mexico.

I'm surprised to hear that Mark Sesti, formerly of Hacienda, is the owner of this new Mexican eatery on restaurant row in the Chesterfield Valley. Hacienda is a fun place with great food and great service. None of this has translated to Estancia. My wife and I decided to give this place a try on a Saturday night, since I'm a Mexican food groupie and we always like to try a new place. This building used to house Tahoe Joe's, another disappointing venue, but the decor hasn't change much since that steak house made its quick exit. A few Mexican flags, banners, some Christmas lights and a little bit of artwork are hung around the dining room, but the whole place still seems like a northwestern log home, which was perfect for Tahoe Joe's but not so much for a Mexican restaurant. A BBQ joint would have been more appropriate, if funds weren't available for a re-decoration (clearly they weren't). I had a bad vibe as soon as I walked in and saw a cloth banner that says "Mexico" hanging over the log wall inside the doorway, and because, for a Saturday night (at 6pm), the place was half-empty. Our wait was supposed to be five minutes, but was more like twenty, and the host had the annoying habit of announcing to whoever was next in line that their table was being bussed and it would be a couple minutes more. When we were finally seated, I noticed that the screws and holes from the old Tahoe Joe's booths were still in the walls, complete with scrapes where the booths were removed. Seems like a no-brainer to make sure and refinish the wood after removing the booths, but maybe I'm asking too much. It looks like they couldn't get the old furniture out of there fast enough before the new tables came in. And the place has no booths. I'm a booth person...I think wooden chairs are less comfortable...it would have been nice to see a booth or two as an alternative. I will say that service was great...and as I watched the servers bopping around the room, it looked like they had the right staff in place that night. All the servers seemed to be restaurant veterans...people seemed happy and I didn't see any drinks that needed to be refilled. Ours were kept constantly full. Based on the other reviews, maybe we just got lucky, or maybe they are listening. Unfortunately the food was the biggest disappointment. I'm a big fan of Matador, which is a few doors to the west of Estancia, because the prices are low, the food is hot and basic, the menu is large, and the food comes out quick. They get you in and out of there quickly. In fact, most Mexican restaurants are very good about having a large menu and delivering your food in under ten minutes, with prices that don't put a big hole in your wallet. The prices were a little high for a Mexican joint that offers basic Mexican food. Espinos, a little Mexican bar that's down and across the street, is on the high side too, but the menu they offer is high-end, something more at home in Los Angeles than Chesterfield, so the pricing is excusable. At Estancia, the prices are high but the food is basic and bland. My wife ordered the chicken quesadilla and I decided to order a three-entree combination of chicken burrito, chicken enchilada, and tamale. The wait was about 20 minutes...normal in most restaurants but way too long in a Mexican cafe. There were free chips and salsa, yes, but the salsa was extremely spicy and, although I like spicy, I was thankful the server kept my water full. If you aren't a big fan of spicy salsa, there is no alternative other than to order some $8 guacamole or queso as an alternative. The chicken quesadilla came with a Mexican salad (shredded lettuce and some pico de gallo), without sour cream or guacamole. A quick check of the menu and we learned that sour cream is an extra dollar and guac is an extra two dollars. Huh? El Maguey, where art thou? The quesadilla was thick with cheese, so much in fact that it was hard to taste the chicken. Worse than that...it was lukewarm. My dish came out with the usual half-plate of beans and rice, which is typical and I don't mind because I like beans and rice. Evidence that the plate had sat under a hot light...crusty beans...explained the extra-long wait time. The burrito was bland...basically shredded chicken and cheese in an tortilla, and the enchilada had a minuscule amount of sauce. The worst was the tamale...no taste whatsoever, just shredded pork in a corn roll. No sauce, no onions, no spices of any kind. The experience made me wish we had just gone ahead and gone back to an old favorite...Matador...where the servers are attentive, the margaritas are ginormous, the prices are low, the food is good, hot, and quick to your table, and the chips and salsa won't burn a hole in your stomach.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
