This place is hustling on the weekends. You can expect solid decent food but nothing out of the ordinary or special. The atmosphere is busy and you sit very close to others. Like cattle to the trough. The prices are a little on the higher side for what it is. The best thing I had was the mimosa!

Very disappointed. Called in a to go order and was told it would be about 20 minutes. Went to pick up and it was clear my order was never put in. Paid, then was later told they ran out of one of the items we ordered. Then still took about 30 minutes to get food. When I got home every item ordered was wrong. Food was cold so it was done well before it was brought out to me so I waited for nothing.

The real reason we decided to go to Keys was to see the Peanuts statues. I had high hopes for this place when we sat down...then it quickly went down hill. Service was slow. The gal was friendly, but never apologized or explained why it took so long for, well, everything. I understand that some restaurants get understaffed, over busy, whatever, just tell me. The food was OK. I had the cheeseburger deluxe and waffle fries. I enjoyed the fact that the cheeseburger deluxe was literally just cheese and a hamburger patty on a bun. I also enjoy how cheese is American cheese...which I don't really consider cheese, but cheese-like product, but that's just personal opinion. Regardless, the burger was well done (yay!) but the bun wasn't. The server said they were made there, which makes sense since it's a bakery as well as a cafe, but it tasted doughy and underdone. I had wanted to try something from the bakery case, but since the service was so slow, I opted out of that idea. Probably a sign from the universe...I mean if their hamburger buns are underdone... I know this is a local chain and might be tempted to try a different location, but I will likely as not be going back to this one.

I havent eaten at keys in a long time until yesturday. I remember when I would go to the Keys downtown St. Paul every so often and order the cajun breakfast and thought it was always great. When I went yesturday I got the mexican omlette instead of what I usually would get back in the day and was not super impressed. Next time I give this place another chance I am trying the cajun again and hopefully can do a follow up review and add more stars if the cajun still tastes as good. Our waitress was friendly and our food was quickly out to us but she forgot chips that were supposed to come with my meal and I called it to the waitresses attention and she brought them out but I didnt hear a sorry. Now to the omlette, there was too much chilli on it and the shredded cheese on it was not melted or warm, and the chilli kinda tasted like the cook took a can opener and threw some Hormel stuff out of the can on it and the tortilla chips didnt even taste Frito lay Tostitos quality but more like Tortilla chips you would buy at the Dollar Tree or Walmart Great Value brand. The food was edible but I could have made something better myself at home and Im not even that great of a breakfast cook. The next time I return if my Cajun isnt done like how I remember it Keys your history. I paid for my tab which was like 12 at the counter and as I was up their I noticed my waitress was leaving for the day and I tried to get her attention to give her a tip and when I did I gave her a 5 dollar bill and she didnt say thank you. That was a 45 percent tip almost, no thank you. And it was because I thought you might be friendly but I guess not. It certainly wasnt for the quality of my meal.

I've never had a bad meal here. I recommend the chicken wild rice soup, I get it to go sometimes because I'm always craving it they have a great breakfast too.

Wish I would have read the reviews before coming here. I was really hungry for breakfast and decided to stop here. I had the pancakes and coffee. Let me say that I love both pancakes and coffee. During the entire breakfast I drank only 1 cup of coffee because it was so bad. The pancakes were dry and tasteless. The "syrup" proudly proclaimed it was free of high-fructose corn syrup: It was just regular corn syrup. We didn't have a choice in seating, but they had a patio overlooking the parking lot, an indoor "patio" type thing overlooking the mall interior, or the back where I got to face the wall. Luckily, I got the best of the three options. Whew. Our server, a surly, old, fat woman who never told us her name, seemed liked she'd worked there for much too long. She was efficient though. So if that's what you're into. The other item ordered was over-easy eggs, hash browns, and toast. When they came out, they looked awful. The eggs had been cooked and thrown onto the plate next to some frozen hash browns that tasted like they'd been microwaved. The toast was served on a separate plate, so as to not disturb the presentation of the dish. I'm told the eggs were good. But how hard is it to cook over-easy eggs. I ended up eating just one of the three pancakes I ordered. Half of the hash browns and toast were eaten too. We took the pancakes and hash browns in a to-go box, but I don't think we'll eat them. The only reason this review got 2 stars is because the eggs were good and it's cheap.

Being a Keys Café virgin and having my girlfriend's father insist that we eat at Denny's, Perkin's (aka totally uninspiring diner chains), I strongly suggested that we support a local business and dine at their location in Hoodbury. It would serve as my girlfriend's last meal in the Twin Cities (before we drove down South), and unfortunately it wasn't so great. To be honest, I'm not sure why there's a wait at all. ***** I. FOOD They have your traditional American breakfast -- various types of eggs, pancakes, etc... -- and their own specials. Our server recommended the Cajun Breakfast to me, and so I got that. *Cajun Breakfast: It came with two eggs, onions, mushrooms, green pepper, hashbrowns, all topped with melted (slice) cheese, hollandaise sauce, and Cajun spice. Yes, this could give heart attacks to three people, but I decided to tackle it myself. And I have to say that it was poorly slopped together/ made with no love. Not to mention, I did not love that hollandaise sauce. This was the only time in recent memory that I chose not to have the rest of my breakfast to go. II. SERVICE Yes, I know this is a popular brunch spot, and I know there's a wait, but it doesn't mean that people can be rude. I can excuse folks being short or losing their temper (it happens to all of us), but hosts don't need to do an eye roll when I ask, "it's been 30 minutes; do you know if our table ready, yet?" The server inside was fine. III. ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR A standard diner with Peanut statues out in the front of the entrance (via strip mall). IV. PRICES Very affordable. No qualms here. V. OVERALL I don't plan on returning, and I think there are much better brunch spots than Keys. I hope the food and service can improve at this location, and it's not representative of this local chain.

Is it really worth the wait? Another boring meal in a strip mall. Woodbury has no place to eat that isn't contained in a strip mall or overcrowded with people at all hours of the day! Key's is no different. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 10:00, we had a 15 minute wait for a table. I would not have waited but where the heck else are we going to eat? I wish the teenager/gatekeeper would have told the 2 of us we could just sit at the counter. I wouldn't have minded that at all. Instead, we were stuffed into a small room with a family, we were next to the gross door to the kitchen where the busser were bringing all the dirty dishes. I was pissed from the word go. I looked over the food on the overpriced menu and decided on an egg sandwich and water. The egg sandwich comes with 2 eggs, cheese and your choice of meat on homemade toast, with hash browns and fruit. I chose the turkey patty with no hash browns. The food came rather quick and I know why - they hardly toasted the damn bread. It was soggy and there wasn't any butter on the inside or outside of the bread. Sorry, but you can't have an egg sandwich on non-toasted bread. So, I ate the turkey separate and then the eggs with cheese and skipped most of the bread. Once I deconstructed the sandwich it tasted fine, but it's suppose to be an egg sandwich, man! Take a lesson from Coffee Cup, Park Cafe a few miles south or any other place on my list. They know how to make an egg sandwich. We're not going back. If my dining companion wants to go, he's on his own. I'm almost certain we spent more time waiting to be seated and waiting to pay than actually enjoying our meal. Overprice, overrated and overly populated.

Big menu, it's almost as big as the portions. This is a great diner style restaurant with portions that are pretty much guaranteed to make you skip your next meal. I've been here several times and the eggs benedict, grilled denver sandwich and farmers omelet are delicious. I've been here with a lot of different people and everyone has always been happy with their meal. There can be a wait especially on Sat/Sun morning but settle down, relax and enjoy a good breakfast.

  • Janye A.

Below average. Hashbrowns were under done, coffee was dishwater style and the hollandaise was just kind of icky. Tasted like some sort of cheese sauce. Don't bother.

We like Keys cafe and usually go to the one in St. Paul. There are two things about this location that we weren't fond of: One, it's in a mall; two, it's in the burbs. No, I'm not a fan of the burbs. Other than that, we had a pleasant breakfast. While the menu stated that we'd have a choice of sausage, this doesn't seem to be the case. I ordered a side of sausage, as did my son, and we weren't asked about it. I assumed, then, that we'd get links. We got patties, which was alright. We just prefer links. Hubby got the Everything Omelette and was happy with it. My son loved his Koala pancake and I adored the blueberry pancakes that I got. My son said that these were the second best pancakes he'd ever had. Because he's smart, he said mine were number one. What my hubby and I really liked, too, was getting a carafe of coffe for each of us. I stick with decaf (I'm scary when caffeinated), and he's into regular coffee. Sometimes, we've waited a long time for refills at other places. We enjoyed being able to have whatever we wanted without having to wait or rebalance the chemistry (cream & sugar) of the cup being embibed. So, despite being in the wrong location (again, not a fan of the burbs), this was a nice little retreat from our Sunday routine. If we have to come back to Woodbury for anything, which we pray we don't, Keys will certainly be on menu.

I knew were in for it when the waitress asked where we were from and then remarked how good Chicago breakfasts are. I didn't know breakfasts could differ so much from state to state. I read the reviews on how awful the coffee was so I wanted to see for myself. Yep, it is lukewarm dishwater and I only drank half a cup despite having a whole carafe at my table. I ordered a hash and in my breakfast ordering past, hash has always came topped with eggs so when the waitress asked if I wanted to get it with the egg and toast combo, I was confused. Huh? A hash that is already priced over $9 doesn't include eggs or toast??? My friend ordered an omelet and while it was 9"x3", it came only with toast and sat lonely on the plate without hash browns. The saving feature of the breakfast was the sticky bun - it was good, however, not fabulous. I must be in the rare minority since many Minnesotans waited up to 40 minutes to get seated for service. If you are lucky, you will get to sit on their "patio" overlooking the used video game store in this inside-out strip mall.

The food here is pretty good but we order here a lot and it's like pulling teeth to get good service over the phone. The food is a little more on the expensive side but I can't say I have ever had anything bad there!

So here I am, a new Dad and where can I bring my 4 month old and my wife who just wants a place she can relax for Breakfast/brunch? Keys. This is not my first time here, at the Woodbury location yes, but not at Keys. I like this place, its good for the right reasons. The wait staff is great the food is good, if not better than good. Its the kind of place you bring the in-laws, and that is not a bad thing. I like this place, and I'll most likely be back several times. While the Blueberry Waffles were mediocre, the Cajun was terrific. Again, all be eating here again and all probably rate it higher next time, but for now A-Okay works for me. The coffee was also old, and not cold but burnt, you understand I'm sure.

Excellent food! Turkey dinner was just like homemade! Caramel rolls to die for! Homemade breads were delicious! Yum! Very busy, but it was Sunday noon, so we expected a long wait, but were seated right away. Will definitely go there again.

Being southern born and bred, I'm always fearful of a restaurant claiming to have "the best biscuits and gravy" ESPECIALLY in a northern state like Mn. I have been proven wrong at Keys.. The biscuits were just like grandmas and the gravy was perfect. Thick enough to stick yet not to the point of congealing. The eggs were huge, the bacon absolutely incredible(in portion and cut) and the hashbrowns could have fed two people. One of the high points of my trip!

Hands down favorite place to take the family. We bring Any out of town visitors too for pancakes the size of manhole covers that somehow remain light and fluffy. The roast beef hash and Cajun breakfasts will practically bring tears to your eyes. Craving a turkey dinner? Done. And awesome! My kids love it as much as we do. Really, you can't go wrong here.

Me and my husband decided to come here after church on sunday. It was a great decision. Clean and friendly staff. Everything was delicious. Despite there being alot of people, we were seated and served fairly quickly. The coffee was very good. I'm always skeptical of ordering coffee from cafés, especially if their unlimited, since that usually means lower quality coffee. That was not the case here. I ordered a turkey wrap and my husband ordered a mushroom omelet. Both were excellent. My only complaint is that I asked for no tomatoes and my wrap came with them. I'll attribute that to the fact that it was very busy. No harm done. Will definitely be coming back.

I like Keys when I am in the mood for a low-key, no hassle, fairly quick dining experience. Their breakfasts are good, hearty, and I like the jam that comes with the toast (boysenberry?) For lunch, a hot or cold sandwich hits the spot, and I like that they offer celery and carrot sticks as an option instead of chips or fries, for those (few) days I feel like eating healthily. Generous dinner portions, food is always hot and filling. I like the turkey dinner. The Man ADORES all of their soups, especially the Wild Rice. Their bakery items have mostly been disappointing, not tasting very fresh, and are usually a little hard and dried out. Service is usually pretty good, running a little to the slow side, but I think that the family-owned business model supports this- trying for a "relaxed" atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere- it's cozy without feeling cloistered, and the booths have very tall backs so your conversation can stay at your own table. The employees at this location have mostly all worked there for a long time, so they must be doing something right!

It was good long time ago. The last 3 times here have been not good experience. The coffee in the beginning is average, just for the first mug and then they give you watery coffee, if you ask for the other coffee (first one) maybe they can change it for you. Food average. French toast still good. Service attitude not so nice. We are not coming back.

I love this place. We go as a family of four or maybe six with grandparents for breakfast. Homemade jams. Large portions. "Pancakes as large as manhole covers" or so says the menu. Okay, they are not that big. If you are lucky you may get the waitress that can take your entire order without writing anything down. You pay at the front after you eat. Way better than a Perkins or, forbid, IHOP. A great family restaurant that is not large chain. Reading other reviews...okay, the coffee is nothing special but that's not why I go there.

Came here for lunch today and it was pretty good. It seemed like a pretty standard cafe/bakery although I wish the cookies were a little better. I also had the chicken rice soup and that was really good. Other than that it was decent and I would go back for lunch.

I decided to write this review based on the house chocolate cake alone! It is so decadent, so rich, so perfect! Now, I'll admit, I'm not exactly a chocoloholic--really, BUT this chocolate cake is absolutely amazing; mmm so yummy.

Looking for a pancake or an omelette that's bigger than your head? Well, Key's would be just what your looking for. I went to Key's for the first time with some co-workers for lunch and I'll definitely be back. Although it was pretty busy during lunch we were still able to be seated rather quickly. However, when it came time to pay (you bring your receipt to the register) the line was out the door. So just be prepared to do a little waiting if your visiting during lunch time. As for what I ordered, I got the Garden Omelette. This baby was huuuge. It was packed with broccoli, cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, green peppers, hash browns, and cheese. It was also served with 2 slices of toast and their homemade jam. Oh the jam, it was wonderful. I believe it was boysenberry? maybe raspberry? something deliciously berry-esque. You gotta try it. I honestly couldn't finish more than half of my omelette and a slice of toast, so if you're not a big eater, you could definitely share this.

The chain of Keys Cafes is one of my favorites for breakfast. I stopped into this one for a coffee break and a Caramel Roll. Service was extremely fast but the caramel roll was a big dinner roll with a weird jellied crystallized brown sugar goo. No cinnamon, no nuts just a big bready bun. Then they microwaved the roll making it so leathery I needed a steak knife to get through it. The fast service disappeared never to be heard from again. No coffee refill, no water refill, no "How is everything", no check. I love hunting servers down to pay my bill. I hope it was just a bad day or at least just this location.

I guess their radio advertising works, because I was really looking forward to trying out this place. I went for a business breakfast and ordered an omelette which turned out to be a bunch of sauteed vegetables stuffed into a plain egg blanket. The coffee was weak, and the meal was overall forgettable. The Woodbury location is dim and a little depressing. The food wasn't terrible, but I really expected so much more. Likely, I'll give another location a try but probably for lunch. Yummy? Eh. Not so much.

  • Emily O.

My dad & I have lunch here once a month or so. The staff is great & while there isn't anything on the menu that I just absolutely love, I haven't had anything I dislike either. The menu features basic & elaborate breakfasts with omlettes and skillets galore, giant salads packed with fresh veggies and interesting homemade dressings, homey dinners, and just about any hot or cold sandwich you can think of. Breakfast is served all day, they feature different soups every day, the food is fresh, the bakery is full of ooey gooey sweetness, & they recently started serving BEER! Keys is a great meeting place for breakfast & lunch & with the addition of beer to their menu, I imagine Keys will become a hot spot for home cooked meals as well.

Nothing to write home about and food tastes as bland as it only can! Service is so reliably slow it borders unacceptable. I made several mistakes of coming to eat here but I learned my lesson and cemented it when I realized that's how Keys are, I got exactly the same service in another of their time warps in St. Paul. No more for me, I'm done!

  • Rhonda G.

Same great food as all the others, with a difference. It's roomy and atmospheric to boot. You almost feel like you're in a cafe, because you're fenced in even though it's in a strip mall. I went for the sweet 16 celebration. Someone walked around with a decent piece of free house chocolate. Dessert first, I can live with that. Then a special price half order of a hot turkey sandwich. Turkey was very tender, dressing was a little salty. I could barely eat any mashed potatoes. It was really a normal portion, but not for Key's standards of course.

Perhaps I didn't do enough research, but I needed a place to host my family for breakfast on a weekday morning. It needed to be in Woodbury, and it needed a patio so my sister could bring her pooch. The only thing that I could come up with was Keys. As a vegan, I don't expect much from a breakfast joint that doesn't cater to vegans. However, I do expect good coffee. Keys Cafe, your coffee is appalling. Utterly revolting. Seriously disgusting. Not only did I fail to eat a good breakfast, but I failed to get caffeinated. How sad. You're only getting two stars because you have a patio - albeit it's in a parking lot.

We live just down the road from Key's, so now and then on a weekend morning we order over-priced breakfast takeout. About 80% of the time, upon opening our take-out containers, we realize they completely messed up the order. We probably won't be giving Key's our business anymore - unless we are reeeeaaally hard up for some greasy, crispy hashbrowns!

Keys, I thought you were supposed to be one of the best breakfasts in the Twin Cities...what happened? I tried out the Woodbury location with my husband this morning and afterwards we both agreed we would have been much more satisfied with a trip to Perkins. Both the Everything Omelette and the Eggs Benedict were adequate, but not worth coming back for. The rock star of our meal was the warm gooey caramel roll. Aside from the mediocre breakfast, Keys Cafe hits a home run with their bakery case. Cake servings are HUGE and that makes me a happy girl. Keys has THE BEST carrot cake in the Twin Cities. Their chocolate House Cake ropes me in every time with its extremely addictive buttercream frosting. The selection of pies, cookies, and bars is also amazing. Bottom line: skip the breakfast and pick up a delectable Keys dessert to savor at home.

What a menu. Lots of good stuff. Breakfast served all day. The breakfast I got was loaded with many strips of bacon, fluffy eggs, and crispy hash browns. Toast and jelly was great too! The service is very nice and attentive. They clearly have a personable side to them. I love that! Parking is plentiful in the parking lot of the small mall the restaurant is located in. I will be going back more! Check them out, you'll enjoy the experience I believe.

Back section was closed with people waiting in the mall to be seated, doesn't make sense. Under staffed, those poor waitresses could hardly keep up. That said, I never had a bad meal or bad service here ever. Owners need to pay for more waitresses though.

  • Bianca D.

I give the Keys 1 star for a few reasons. First, we had to wait about an hour for an order of pancakes. Management had no clue that we had waited for so long. Good management should know what is going on with all tables. Their "excuse" was that they were short staffed. Second, they give you cold syrup from a bottle. Very classless. The syrup should be warm and served in a vase or container. Third, the food was all brought at separate times. Took about 10 minutes to get all of our dishes out. nThe reason why I give 1 star and not a zero is because my french toast did taste good. All in all, very poor management, and we will never be back.

Tonight's visit to Key's Woodbury would be a 2 or a 2.5, if allowed by Yelp. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich with dressing and mashers to go, something I've done numerous times. Tonight the whole place seemed a bit off. I took a long time, especially as they didn't have a lot of other customers at that time and the staff seemed to have time to chat with each other. They turkey was quite dry - I don't think there was enough gravy to say it. The usually moist dressing as also very dried out too. The meal was filling, yet disappointing - that the wonderful comfort food I'm used to getting from Key's

Key's has been one of my favorite breakfast places in the twin cities, but in the past few months it has really deteriorated. I was there September 28 and was the first person in the place for breakfast. I ordered overeasy eggs, bacon, French toast and sourdough toast. The eggs were cooked hard and had a crunchy edge to them ( I sent them back) and the rest of the breakfast was cold. I thought that was strange since I was their first order of the day. I go to Key's for the bacon, but it was cold and tough, and the toast was inedible. It looks like I will have to start looking for another easy to get to breakfast place in Woodbury.
