Like the other poster, avoid the filled pastries. Not good. The other doughnuts and fruit cream layered cakes are fabulous. **** (4 Stars) on doughnuts & cakes For lunch: I'd recommend avoiding at all costs. Quality is below Panera, portion size is tiny, but pricing is the same or higher. Tried lunch there 4-5 times, will never go back again. * (1 Star) on all other food items Service at this place is lacking. They might be great at creating good pastries, but none of them are trained on selling it to the consumer. Some of the older gals are really crabby! They aren't quick to help you, nor overly excited that you're in there keeping them in business. I guess that's part of the Dorothy Ann mystique...

The good: Their cupcakes and cake are excellent. The bad: Cookies, small pasteries....they are hard, nothing special for the price. I can make better treats (and I am a terrible cook!) ;) Their decorating is BEAUTIFUL, I have never seen such pretty cakes. The staff is usually pretty nice. I think they are a little over priced for the quality.

Fellow cupcake addicts: Run, don't walk, to Dorothy Ann's. This place has a mouth watering selection of cupcakes in their case, all piled high with rich frosting and many with cream fillings. The pistachio chocolate cupcake is frosted with chocolate buttercream frosting, filled with an AMAZING pistachio cream, and sprinkled with crushed pistachios. This cupcake will make me a repeat customer. Also delicious is the pina colada cupcake, filled with a pineapple jelly and topped with a creamy coconut frosting. Dorothy Ann's makes a lot of seasonal treats. Currently they have Irish Cream cupcakes, four leaf clover sugar cookies, and many other green goodies. All cupcakes are $2 a piece, while most bakery items will cost you even less. The location can be tricky to find tucked about a half mile off of Tamarack Rd. and Commerce Drive, but it is certainly worth the search!

Try not to buy cakes directly from the fridge there - 3 out of 4 times they are old and even frosting is frozen over.... The pastries and cookies are average. Not what you'd expect with an on-site bakery. And staff really don't seem knowledgeable about their products. Maybe they are trying to do too much with soups and sandwiches etc.

I've recently had 3 of the best cupcakes in my life here- the almond raspberry blew my mind! I asked if they did birthday cupcakes and the woman went out of her way to show me their portfolio (pics and actual samples in back). I was so impressed with their artful handling of cupcake frosting (I am a professional designer btw) I had my daughter describe what animals she wanted on hers. For $2 ea we were very happy with the service, taste and presentation!

My family has been a customer of Dorothy Ann for years. In the beginning, everything was great. Over the past year, however it has slipped. The cakes are still amazing, we just can't seem to get what we ordered. Last February my wife's birthday cake was the wrong cake, wrong filling and wrong frosting. Today we picked up a birthday cake that my wife ordered for me. It was very good but once again, it wasn't what we ordered. What is frustrating is its the easy stuff, like marble cake vs chocolate. Their products all taste fantastic, there just seems to be a disconnect with the staff and ordering. We will probably still be return customers but we are just going to have to be a bit more proactive.

I always have a great experience here, no idea what some of the other people are talking about. It's a small, family run business who makes bakery products; do yourself a favor and try the cupcakes, some if the best I've ever had and you can't go wrong anything in the bakery case. The deli is a great place to grab a quick sandwich for lunch (and includes a cookie!!) and try the Saturday morning buffet for a nice start to the weekend. Staff is friendly and quite helpful, never had an issue and always am surprised with how good things are. Highly recommend giving them a try, you won't be disappointed!!!

I wasn't expecting too much based upon yelp reviews but I came in to treat my sweet tooth. To my horror and delight there were samples. I love samples. I want to TRY ALL THE THINGS. So I did. I tried a little bit of cookie, cake, and donut that they had and all were good. So I ordered a cupcake because there is nothing I like more than a super deluxe filled cupcake and they had a variety. I went with Rocky Road because I haven't ever had a Rocky Road cupcake, however this one was missing its nuts so I guess it's not a real Rocky Road. Regardless, it was amazing. The lady behind the counter seemed a little confused with the questions I asked about prices and what was in certain things but she was more than happy to find the answers for me. There was a cute little cafe attached but I didn't even look at it or the menu but now I defintely want to come back.

I wanted to take some donuts to an early morning meeting when visiting Woodbury. I asked for some advice from the staff at my hotel, and was pointed down to road to Dorothy Ann. Everyone was very friendly when I walked in, and I was impressed with the big bakery case as you walked in the door. I ended up grabbing a baker's dozen, with a couple of danishes mixed in among the various filled, cake, and raised donuts, and they were a big hit at my meeting - the blue velvet donut and lemon danishes in particular were big hits. I was a little less thrilled with the price - my order and a cup of (honestly, pretty mediocre) coffee ended up running me almost $18 - most donuts in the case are $1-$1.50 each, and they didn't discount anything for buying them as part of an assortment, which was a little surprising. That said, no complaints about the quality of the actual goods or the staff. I suspect that the next time I'm bringing a treat to a meeting out here, they'll be my first choice.

They did a great job on our wedding cake. I was very impressed with the effort they put in to create exactly what we were looking for. Great price point! I'd recommend them!

We called ahead to try Dorothy Ann in Woodbury for a Wedding cake/cupcake tasting. We arrived 10 minutes early, as our appointment was at 1:00pm Saturday November 22nd. They asked us to take a seat anywhere so we found an empty table (Not Clean). About 10 minutes later we sat down someone dropped off a plate with two pieces of cake one marble and one chocolate tasted days old, defiantly not fresh! They left the plate and left our table immediately. We tried the crappy cake they brought us then about 20 minutes later Joan decided to come to our table. She didn't care she was 20 minutes late to our appointment, and she left three times while talking to us! My fiance was ready to leave. I am letting all Brides and Grooms know this establishment is not what you want for your wedding! Were still looking for a decent bakery. Good Luck!

Wow - what's all the hype of Dorothy Ann's? The cupcakes are "cute" but hard frosting and very tasteless. And talk about the price! Nothing very special at this bakery. Not sure what everyone is going all gaga about. Cub bakery is just as good and much cheaper. Will not go again.

The best part of the lunch was dessert. The carrot cake was pretty good. Unbelievably moist, and still pretty moist even the next day. The sandwiches were ok. The foccacia bread was very fresh. The meat and cheese inside were ok, but tasted a little too process-y which killed it for me. I like good bread with good meat and cheese. The squash soup was ok, but not very appealing to look at. May have to stop back to try their cupcakes and other pastries.

Thankfully Dorothy Ann's isn't close or I'd be in there way too often! I've tried a few other "gourmet" cupcakes and haven't found any that come close to Dorothy Ann's. The cake is light and fluffy and the flavors are outstanding! The almond cupcakes are a family favorite - although their chocolate specialty cupcake (name is eluding me) are a close second!

For a bakery, I am just not very impressed. My husband and I have stopped here a few times hoping to be amazed by their desserts and every time we're underwhelmed. So disappointing. The cupcakes sound so good. All sorts of different flavors, etc... But none of then tasted remotely interesting. Dry cake, boring frosting, zero flavor. We've ordered cakes and they were pretty basic. Same for breakfast items. Absolutely nothing special about the pastries here. If I go somewhere to order food I hope it tastes awesome. Too bad that place is not Dorothy Ann.

Ordered several dozen mini cupcakes - multiple flavors - ALL were fantastic! Had many party guests asking where I got them. The biggest hit was with one of this month's specials - the Razzle Dazzle! Have been a customer for a while and have yet to be disappointed in the quality of the product. Always get compliments on items purchased from Dorothy Ann Bakery!

We used Dorothy Ann's for our wedding reception. We had the best cupcakes I've ever had in my life. Since then I've ordered a couple times for work and one recently for a bridal shower. Unfortunately for the work event I was shorted on the cupcakes. With the bridal shower I called and placed an order and actually called back to make sure they knew of the cookies I was ordering. I was quoted a price of $2.35 per cookie. When I went to pick them up the cookies cost significantly more - over $1 more per cookie. They did the right thing and gave them to me for the price originally quoted but now without a quick guilt trip first. The staff doesn't seem to be aware of the products they are selling. I would highly suggest they put prices on the website so at least clients ordering via phone have an idea of what to expect. Again, great cupcakes and cookies but I won't order again from this bakery due to my experiences.

Great cakes, cookies and cupcakes! They have done my daughter's birthday cake the last 3 years and they are always beautiful and delicious!

For a Detroit ex-patriate, finding a paczki (pronounced poonch-key) is like Indiana Jones on his next adventure. Look no further! A happy fat filled Mardi Gras is still possible, with plain, raspberry, lemon, and custard flavors. Long live the paczki!

It's a bakery and a cafe. Little known outside of Woodbury, it's worth a visit if you're in the area. Dorothy Ann has been in Woodbury for decades. Before that it was a bakery in the Twin Cities proper. It's a decent bakery of all kinds of confections. I highly recommend their slivered almond croissants if you can get there before they are sold out. It's a reliable place to order those white cakes for graduations and birthdays. They also do a good job of making elegant wedding cakes. Avoid their filled donuts and fruit danishes. They use that thick, cornstarchy 'fruito.' Several years ago Dorothy Ann started to serve sandwiches and soups, and after they moved to the new location, they set aside a larger area. Their fare is similar to Panera, and it's priced the same. Unlike Woodbury's Panera, you can park close to the front door and you don't have to worry about herds of elderly patrons monopolizing booths forEVer. (Panera also serves as a place for middle-aged women to roost. Gaggles of them cluck and KNIT for hours on-end). I recommend Dorothy Ann's Small Greek Salad. It's really quite large. And if you can score some of their vegetable soup -- you've got it made.
