Unfortunately, I yelped this restaurant while on a business trip in Minnesota. My co-workers and I were looking for some good Chinese food and we thought, "Oh, 5 stars on Yelp by 2 reviewers, it MUST be good." We were in for a surprise. I don't mean to discredit the other reviewers, but maybe they haven't had real Chinese food, or maybe D. Fong's food drastically changed in the last couple of months. I feel like I have some credibility being Chinese myself, growing up eating Chinese food, living near Rowland Heights and Irvine (which has some of the best Chinese food in Southern California), I've been to Taiwan, which obviously has bomb Chinese food, etc. Let me say this at least, if you are Chinese, or have had good Chinese food, and happen to be in Minnesota for whatever reason and you yelp this place, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, go here, you will terribly disappointed. My co-workers ordered the sesame chicken lunch special and the beef with garlic sauce lunch special, while I ordered the pork lo mein and sweet & sour chicken with fried rice lunch special. First of all, my fried rice was brown, and it wasn't 'cause I ordered brown rice, it was brown because they must have dropped a gallon of soy sauce in my fried rice. Secondly, my pork lo mein, had a disturbing dark brown hue to it as well, I took a peek under the bed of noodles, and I kid you not, it was swimming in a sea of soy sauce. I could go further, but I think you get the idea. Let me just say, I would eat Panda Express any day over D Fong's. I apologize if I come off sounding harsh or rude, but for people who are of Chinese descent or have eaten real Chinese food and find this place on Yelp, I don't want you to be disappointed as I was when I came here to eat. On a positive note, the service was excellent, the owner and waitress were both extremely nice, and I understand that they are catering to a certain demographic, just don't go here if you're Chinese.

I have to agree with David C. - eww. Even my tea was bad. Everything we had was soggy & salty. This is "Minnesota" Chinese - NOT for those who like something with flavor & texture.

My wife loves this place, but I find the food to be bland and over-priced.

This place is AWESOME. You have to taste the food to believe it. This restaurant shames all other chinese restaurants that I've been to. The vegetables are steamed and still crispy when you bite in to them, the sauces are delicious. I even had a special request for the manager to make some of their hot mustard so I could take it home. He did so without any issues and made me very happy. I think only charged me a few dollars for it and the container was adequate for many meals. This restaurant is TOP NOTCH! Do not hesitate to try it!!

I grew up in Savage and have been eating at D Fongs since I can remember. I absolutley love the veggie lo mein and I always get an order of special fried rice, the shrimp is always good, and some sweet and sour chicken. The service is always great too. I now live in Nebraska but everytime I go home to visit I get D Fongs.

I really wanted to like D Fong's in Savage. We got takeout from there last night. We bought a variety of dishes - Appetizer Samplers, Combo Lo-Mein, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Pork Egg Foo Young, Curry Chicken, Beef Kung Bo. It was bad. Really bad. The curry chicken had a flavor profile that tasted almost chemical in nature. I have had good curries, I have had great curries and I have had terrible curries - this was a terrible curry. The appetizers were a combo of Egg Roll, Fried Butterfly Shrimp, Cream Cheese wontons, and chicken wings. They were all over-cooked to the point of being rock hard. The 2 pieces of shrimp tasted good though and honestly were the only passable item in the entire meal. The lo mein was oily and low average. Honestly nothing remarkable about it to talk about. The pork egg foo young had overcooked patties, sprouts in it that were black (either from over-cooking or age) and a flavorless brown sauce. The beef didn't have a whole lot of flavor in the Beef Kung Bo. The steamed rice (yes, I am actually reviewing the rice) was made up of VERY hard kernels - either under-cooked or simply old. This was bad, really really bad. I honestly feel bad leaving this review because the girls working there were so sweet and friendly, but that doesn't save the fact that the food at D Fongs sucks from my experience with them (it really was a very bad experience). Lastly, our meal was $69.00 for that take-out. I should have gone a completely different direction with all of the wonderful Chinese take-out options in the cities... Live and learn. Oh and lastly, they don't deliver. Yelp says that they do, but they do not. One line review: Avoid this bad food.

It was edible but not worth it. We won't be back, EVER! No one was here, that's should have been a sign.

Eaten here 5-6 times All good - I like this place. Is their stuff is Amercian-ized? Maybe can't really say - I have only had Chinese food in U.S. It is a little different from others places I like - but has been very good. Staff is friendly Food is good

The staff here is very friendly. The food is great. The Fongs have been restauranteurs in Minnesota for multiple generations. It's clear that they understand the importance of great customer service and great food. It's a very affordable weeknight meal and you'd be hard pressed to find a better Chinese restaurant in Burnsville. Take out is quick and convenient and you'll get a ton of food for the money. It beats the pants off of the local chains and you will certainly like it better than any of those nasty buffets. The owner really cares about his community and his customers and he's there every day to make sure everyone leaves happy. Cheers!

It says in Yelp that this place delivers. I called in to place an order and first I was put on hold for over 3 minutes, when I finally hung up and called back, I asked to place my delivery order. The person on the other line snapped that they don't deliver. I kindly mentioned that they may want to change that information on their Yelp page and she just snapped again that Yelp is not their website. I was then hung up on.

I have given DFongs three chances to live up to expectations, and each time it has disappointed me. The fact that this family has been in business for 60 years or so makes me think that they must be doing something right, but I have yet to see it. I took my family and we ordered 4 different lunch specials. My wife's egg foo yung was burned on the bottom. My son's chow mein was nothing more than some la choy fried noodles covered in some thick brown gravy and 3 pale soggy chicken shreds. I tasted it...it was bad. I had sesame chicken, which in itself wasn't bad, but again, tablespoons of that thick brown gravy. The fried rice was kinda poultry greasy. If you are looking for westernized cheap Chinese in this area, try Eddie Chengs or Super Dragon. D. Fongs just doesn't cut it for me.

Food was ok. Definitely Americanized. Seemed like we were interrupting our waitress. :-/. The lady filling water glasses kept a smile on though. Had a little bit of a fast food feel. Heard the radio playing back in the kitchen.

I agree with other posters that it isn't authentic Chinese food. It is Americanized Chinese. But what they do, they do VERY well. It's just yummy stir fry! Julie (server) is so sweet. She remembers us and knows what we're going to order, down to the point that my mom doesn't like mushrooms. That's impressive! David (owner) is very nice and always chatting with us. When we are in the Burnsville area, we almost always drive the extra 5 minutes for lunch at D. Fong's.

Place was empty at dinner rush. Terrible service. Recommend you skip this place. We went for dinner. Terrible experience. Gave one star because zero stars is not an option.

I've been eating their chicken chow mein since i was a kid. It isn't like any other chow mein but it is DELICIOUS. My dad lives in Japan and we have to always bring back chicken chow mein to him. It's that good!

Normally I like their take out. Dined in last night and was very disappointed. Service slow. Food average at best. Won't be back anytime soon

If you are in the Burnsville area, travel a little further on Hwy 42 and try D Fongs. This is the same family that owns the Prior Lake location, and the quality remains. Last night when I stopped for take out, the owner, David, held the door for me in passing. Seeing an owner caring about his restaurant tends to give me warm fuzzies right away. Their chicken chow mein is hands down for the freshest and tastiest in the metro. I also loved the spicy chicken & vegetables special, in which I could control the amount of heat (spicy!), and of course, their fried rice with little chunks of chicken. So good in the mouth! The staff is great and they went through my order several times to make sure I had everything before I left.
