Excellent food - Service from IHOP. Our waitress didn't know about the food, didn't know about the wine or wine service and didn't know about what brands of liquor they had in the bar. If you asked for something you had no idea if or when it was going to be brought to the table. Now that I look back I may have insulted IHOP.

Uh-oh, this is one of those places where they give their servers courses in upside-down name writing. They crayon it on casually before service so you *know* who it is that you should be asking for when they don't return forever and ever. They do give you popovers instead of the standard pre-meal bread slices, but I'm not a fan of popovers, so this did not sway me. Nothing else was very memorable for me. I had a salad. It was okay. I'd say this is a serviceable place to eat--especially if you're stuck in the hotel adjoining. My co-worker swears by this place and has had many good experiences--but mine was just so-so. The service was slooooow, but at least I got to doodle on the table while I was waiting.

I would love to give this restaurant a 5, but the service detracts two stars for me. I have eaten here many times, and each time the food has been superb but the service terrible. The host is always leaning in the corner and has never spoke directly to me, simply grabs menus and throws them on the table before sulking away. I have heard three different wait-staff persons bad mouthing/making fun of customers behind their backs. The last time I was there I called ahead to check the specials and happy hour times because I was bringing in clients only to find that once we were already there and seated, there were no specials and no happy hours that evening even though I had been told what they were on the phone. Strange. My guess is that since this bad service has been going on for about a year, the manager is probably the root issue. My advice is to give it a try, the food is very good. Perhaps I just have had bad luck or my standards are too high for service.

WOW-this was an interesting night. We had a Groupon for fifty dollars that I bought "before the baby changed everything" and it expired in a few weeks. My husband thought it would be fine to bring her, and I had my doubts, knowing that her bedtime wasn't far off, but it was five minutes away so we gave it a shot. It actually wasn't too bad of a place for a baby (and we have kind of a pretty content little one) because the background noise she didn't seem to bother anyone...she did start to fuss because she hates her carrier, so my husband and I played "pass the baby" between our bull bites, (which were good-but I didn't get the tomato on top...how can you not find a good tomato in season-it tasted like it came from Cub...) and we split the "steak and lake" special-which was a steak and walleye with baked potato and green beans and came with a salad. It was awesome splitting this-I don't know how anyone could have eaten this alone. They also divided it up for us, which was a nice touch-without any tacky "sharing fee". So, as we were enjoying our popovers, my husband passed the baby over to me, and down went the Diet Coke-right into my lap. Yep, time to go. We took our meal to go, and enjoyed it at home after baby was in bed. I'm sure it would have tasted better there, but everything is better after the baby is in bed.

"Why go here" Free chicken wing not so much the thing Celery and dressing hardly did sing Our company of friends moved me in conversation, relaxing in the light wind and sun, downing a lime margarita; holding my honey's hand, we'll be back for the friendship not so much are we bar food fans.

Axel's is on the high end but I tell you, a warm inviting environment, superb service, and exquisite food on our one visit. We were plesantly surprised at the attention to detail on our food. We had a huge lobster tail--prepared wonderfully and steaks. Everyone was happy with the food and the service. Came time for the bill and the server had overheard us saying we had a birthday and she took their meal off the bill....their meal alone was $40. Don't know if this is true always so check before you go in for a special event. Bravo for hotel restaurant!

Unlimited crab legs anyone?!?! Are you a seafood fan? Do you not want to drive all the way to the SW metro, wait in line for 2 hours and smell like smoke coming out of the building? Then this place is a solid alternative...AND it's central in Roseville. I stopped by recently, along with 6 others, to partake in the unlimited crab leg option. It's located right off 35W and County Road C, attached to a large chain hotel. There is plenty of parking and it wasn't jammed pack like we expected for seafood night. We were quickly seated in a dim dinning room, that felt more old school fancy dining room than comfy, relaxed dining. A majority of us decided on unlimited crab legs, which comes with choice of potato, green beans and soup or salad. On top of that, a large basket of puff pastries are presented, along with a delightful cinnamon butter...which I firmly believe could be spread on anything and still taste amazing. But if you are doing unlimited crab legs...don't fill up on carbs...save yourself for tasty, warm crab meat dipped in hot butter. #fooddrool The initial hit of food was intense, salad, potato option on the side and a heaping pile of crab legs, seated atop fresh green beans. Now these aren't your skimpy, buffet style, slim, no meat crab legs - these are your big guys, cooked just right - meaning the shell isn't rubbery and you can actually crack it in half. Green beans were on point, crunchy, perfect amount of butter and garlic. I went for mashed potatoes, which included bits of skin, loaded with butter and a dash of pepper. After four refills, which come with 4 large chunks of legs, I had to throw in the towel and admit defeat. Make no mistake, the service was excellent, hot food served each time and a reasonable price ($29/person). Do yourself a favor and hit this joint up!

Average lunch, nothing special. After driving by a million times and after seeing their vehicles all over the metro, my daughter and I decided to try them out for lunch. The vibe is an old world, fine dining type of feel. It's dimly lit with a lot of dark wood, old world repro oil paintings all over the walls, and white linens. The lunch didn't really match my expectations. It was okay--average. We had a coconut shrimp appetizer, a reuben, a burger, and a bloody mary. I get the impression these guys might be better at dinner. I'd come back again to try the dinner menu. I'd try the breakfast too. But next time, I'd spend my money somewhere else for lunch. -Daddy Maxx Retro

I had a very poor experience here. Adding to the experience was the fact the receipt we incorrect. I sent an email to resolve my concerns and it too was blown off. I used to go here on a regular basis, had not gone in a while, and do not intend to return.

We had great dinners here. Beef tenderloin. My one complaint was my loaded baked potato and green beans were barely warm. Need to serve your food hot Axel's. The place wasn't exactly busy so not excuse for the barely warm food.

We were staying at a hotel close so here and we thought we would give this a try for dinner. It is a little pricy and the menu didn't have tons of options on it. But our waiter was amazing. He was friendly, good at his job, and great at making conversation. I am not a huge seafood fan but I enjoyed the shrimp appetizer. The prime rib I had was excellent, cooked correctly, flavorful, and tender. Sides were excellent as well. My wife got shrimp alfredo and she was impressed by it as well. Place was completely empty when we arrived so it made us nervous but the food and service was great.

I've visited two Axel's locations, the Mendota Heights and the Roseville location 3 times. The Mendota Heights location was simply too loud to enjoy the visit, but we had a gift card and needed to use it, so up to Roseville we went. (I had taken an aging parent there for a brunch and don't remember the dining experience except we were actually able to talk across the booth). We went at 2 p.m. on a hot Sunday afternoon. We were the post-brunch crowd of 2, so we had the entire dining room staff to ourselves who took care of us between post-brunch/pre-dinner maintenance duties. So the service was really good. I had the Cioppino which definitely lived up to our server's promises. Very hot, nicely seasoned, not too salty, and loaded with a variety of fish and seafood. That it took a while to get to the table from a kitchen in an empty restaurant told me the only thing they weren't pouring from a can were the tomatoes. This IS Minnesota..... I could be wrong. It was $30 but will me get over the lunch hour drudgery by skipping the corporate cafeteria. BUT! there's a but. I ruthlessly recommended my indecisive companion to splurge on the peppercorn been medallions, and proceeded to watch him basically choke down the peppercorn beef medallions which were so overpoweringly coated with cracked pepper, that's all he could taste. Most of his meal went to (hopefully) a composting service. Go. Just be picky. and order how you exactly what you want it prepared.

5 of us went to Axel's for Sunday brunch. 2 of us gave 5 stars and 3 gave 4 stars. Service was very attentive and friendly, all questions were answered, coffee was always filled before asking, and water glasses filled. Food was very good , green beans were very ,very , yummy. In fact we asked for recipe and was given it. All were in agreement for quality and taste of food except for roast pork, 2 people liked it and 3 of us thought it was dry. All in all I , and entire party would definitely return and would recommend others to try it out.

Stopped down the first night for a nightcap. Sat at the bar, had a great conversation with Shane (bartender) and two other folks. Drinks were prompt and poured well. Second night went down for a nightcap and an appetizer. Had the wild mushroom flatbread. Quite tasty with thin flatbread covered with cut mushroom, string onions, and a light coating of Parmesan cheese. Make sure to sign up for the Axel card. Money that you spend goes on your account and you get restaurant credit as your spend hits certain levels.

This is a review of the Sunday brunch: Overall we were less than impressed. The waffles were cold, the pastries were subpar, the sausage and bacon were average, the omellete was pretty good, plenty of quality ingredients including steak for the omellete. The desserts looked amazing and were way less than amazing tasting. The ambiance and service were really great. If you're going for the food i'd say definitely don't go but if you're going for the service and atmosphere its a nice place.

All you can eat crab was very tasty. Only issue was my entree was served within a minute of my soup. I had a choice let my soup go cold or my crab. I chose let the soup go cold. My server was great, very friendly. I would be interested in trying more of the menu but when it comes to all you can eat crab I will always take that route.

We went early on a Friday night. I had a handicapped friend with me. We had to suggest to the host to seat us at the closest table. We were seated. Back against the wall were 2 mangers and 2 wait staff. Standing there with their arms crossed. Granted it was not yet terribly busy...we waited 10 minutes for our server. Right away I knew we were in trouble. She tried really hard to please us. We waited another 10 mins. for our drinks. While looking around to find our server, we noticed the managers still standing there with arms crossed. I saw our drinks at the bar. At this point, we had to put our order in asap. Since we had 1.5 hours. We ordered our apps when she brought our drinks. We waited 35 mins for them. They were terrible. Crab cakes were nothing but horrible, mushy flavorless bread crumbs with some odd balsamic drizzle. The bull bites were quite fatty and hard to chew. The coconut shrimp was ok, but tasted like a frozen appetizer. The popovers came out. They were good. Served with some great butter. Then our food came out. The green beans were cold, the rice with the salmon was disgusting. the steak medallions were cooked just how ordered. The halibut was tender and flavorful. The roasted potatoes were so over seasoned they were inedible. I actually offered to treat my guests on this night and I had never been to this place. We will not go back. I really wanted to like it.

For a hotel restaurant it was good, do ask at the front desk for the 10% discount coupon. I had a middle of the road entrecôte steak and baked potato plus a bottle of J. Lohr Cabernet ($42). Didn't really keep track of what my guests had, but no-one had any real disappointments. Wouldn't drive to eat here but would consider eating here if I was staying at the hotel again

Today, I was able to get the Axel's experience for the first time ever. Wow, this place is terrible. It's one of those places that somehow manages to fail in almost every aspect of what a good restaurant should do. An itemized review? Well, let's see now... Service: Our waiter walked up to the table, spoke not a word, pulled out a red crayon and scribbled an ancient hieroglyphic that I later discerned was his name. Guess he did that in case people didn't notice his name tag. No smile. No conversation. No welcome. No explanation of the specials. In fact, after his crayon art, all he did was drop a small specials menu on the table and prance off into the sunset for about ten minutes. I can't blame him too much, I suppose, since we might have been the first table he'd ever served in his life. Got the sense that he was a noob. Either way...FAIL. Atmosphere: I guess it beats other places I've been, but not great. The "tablecloth" was a giant sheet of paper. PERFECT FOR CRAYONS! Not what you'd expect at a restaurant that charges $25-$35 for an entree. The seats in the booths are uncomfortable. The restaurant decor is average but lacks appeal. Test scores are in...FAIL. Food: Now here's where it gets interesting. Shortly after the artist came back to take our order, he brought some crusty stale dough pockets that resembled a popover. They were served with small tin of maple cinnamon butter that was rich enough to pass for dessert. Tasty, bit a little too potent, and in spite of being über sweet, not enough to bury the stank flavor of the bread. I ordered a steak and the wife ordered steak medallions, Oscar style. Both came with a side of green beans and a potato. I s**t you not, you can get the exact same green beans at the Cleveland Wok in St Paul. Cheap Chinese food at the steak house...HELL YEAH! Although I ordered mashed potatoes, I got tiny little cubes of cardboard doused in flavorless imitation cheese. The steak was a tragedy. It was flavored as well as the cheesy potatoes that I just wrote about. At one point the artist did come back and ask if everything was "...up to expectations". I stifled my laughter and politely nodded, knowing that no amount of complaint could fix such a hopeless situation. Summary: I hope that I didn't get food poisoning, but I left about thirty minutes ago so time will tell. Regardless of whether I survive, please save yourselves the heartache and stay as far away from this dungeon as possible. FAIL!!!

My experience at Axel's, was really poor!! I was a guest at the Radisson hotel and went to the breakfast buffet at Axels which is located in the lobby on 8/23. I was ignored by the waitress and left standing at the entrance. The waitress eventually pointed to the buffet table without being seated. I eventually found a table had the buffet breakfast. The quality of food was quite good. There were only two other guests in the restaurant at the time, but the waitress spent most of her time having a casual conversation with an older couple. Towards the end of my meal, she wandered over to offer coffee. I let her know that their service was really poor, and she says "ok, so you want coffee?" They did not charge for the meal but Wow!! That's my last time there.

I had a good experience with the brunch once, so decided to try it for dinner despite many of the negative reviews I saw on Yelp. It was really a delightful experience all around! I had one of the best steaks I've ever eaten, and my contact with all the staff was pleasant. I would go for five stars but for these two things: our waitress never stopped back to ask if we needed more drinks or water, and both of us received food that was not very hot. In fact, I'd say it was borderline acceptable on temp. For example, a not-hot baked potato is unusual - how do you screw that up? Plus, that's about the only way I can think of that I wouldn't like a baked potato - lukewarm at best. But the popovers and the steaks were just amazing!

I was pleasantly surprised at this restaurant I have stayed at the attached hotel and was not impressed at all with that so i thought restaurant would be able the sames, Wrong! The draft beer was served very cold and in chilled mugs the service was attentive there when you wanted them. I was with party of 3 one of my companions had the walleye fish and said it was delicious 2 of us had the ribeye steak which were cooked to perfection and really tasty . When in area i will definitely be back
