I have to commend Daube's on their cake decorating skills - we wanted a unique birthday cake for our friend and they were so friendly and accommodating, really taking the time to listen to what we wanted and making sure the design was just perfect. Needless to say, we loved loved loved the final result and she was just blown away by the cake when she saw it at her birthday party! Wonderful service and staff.

Every year the only reason I look forward to my birthday and the birthdays of my family is because I know it will include the sundae cake from daubes. Chocolate ganache and cream cheese frosting can't be wrong!!

Pretty good deserts. And a nice quiet atmosphere. I like going here a lot.

I am slightly disappointed with the chocolate carrot cake that I special ordered from Daube's. Daube's can make some beautiful cakes...I've seen many of them. This was NOT one of their beautiful cakes. Maybe it's my fault and I should have explained that I wanted color on my cake when I ordered it but I figured that they were the experts they know how to decorate a cake, right? So you can imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find a brown on brown on brown cake. They told me they would put some carrots on it. I thought "super" then people will know it's carrot cake. Well, they kinda just look like turds if I'm being 100% honest. Maybe it would have been better if they were orange...but again, I'm not the cake decorating artist. I'm sure it's going to taste wonderful...but wow, I just paid $40 for an ugly cake!

Best Chicken Pot Pie I've ever Eaten! So I was having a relatively crummy day, but that all changed when I tasted the take and bake pot pie from Daube's Bakery. It was buttery, flaky and delicious! The peas and carrots were fresh and not mushy! Not too much onion. Chicken chunks were nice sized and yummy. I am serious when I say it was the best, and it elevated my mood. I will confess it looked big and I thought I couldn't eat the entire thing, but darned if I could stop! If you stop on a Saturday I think they will cook it there for you... But if your in the neighborhood of Highway 52 in Rochester and you like pot pies, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't stop in and ask if you can get one to go!!! Since I live in Rochester... I may be in serious trouble... I do not think this was low-cal!!! (But definitely on my it's worth the calories list!)! Yummy-licious!!!

We ordered our wedding cupcakes and cake here. We were pleased with how beautiful and delicious everything turned out. Would've received a higher rating, but the couple times I came in to make a payment or finalize things, they could never find my information. They were pretty unorganized. Also, when my friends came to pick up our order for us on on wedding day, the employees thought we still owed a balance and almost couldn't figure it out.

A really nice, old school feeling bakery in Rochester, including a signature "toasted buttercream" frosting that I'm STILL having happy thoughts about 24 hours after tasting it. Donuts, kolache, and other breakfast pastries average $1-2 each, and cakes range from $6 for "mini" offerings to full force wedding cakes at appropriate prices. Worth a stop if you're in town to visit and would like something tasty in the morning.

Amazing bakery! Try have a few gluten free treats including cupcakes and cookies. Very nice people. Huge selection of donuts.

I don't get this place. I was excited to try it after reading all the great reviews. Came in with my family. First, no one greeted us when we came in. Not a deal breaker or anything but it would be nice, especially since (in my new to the Midwest view) everyone has been so nice and helpful around here. Second, everything was expensive! Pretty much everything was $2 minimum. Even donuts were $2 something each. We got a few different things: apple kolach, raspberry cheese kolach, packzi (Polish donut), long john, apple fritter, and a salted chocolate caramel cupcake. That came to about $18 so I'm thinking it was going to be some awesome pastry. Well the cupcake was good although I think it had too much icing. I love icing so if I think there's too much there has to be a whole lot! The cake was almost unnaturally moist and had a decent chocolate flavor. Everything else... The kolach were soso. The pastry was ok, not flaky goodness, just generic pastry. It was passable. The apple filling tasted odd; I think it was previously frozen. The raspberry cheese, unremarkable except that it wasn't very cheesy. The packzi was topped with white icing and sprinkles and, to my surprise, was filled with some type of red jelly. Except it wasn't filled, it was like a small pocket and it was maybe strawberry flavored? I didn't like it at all and apparently no one else did since it took the three of us at least 12 hours to eat. The longjohn was not filled. It's my understanding and experience that they are filled with custard or at least cream icing. This was dry. It was frosted with a thick layer of tasteless nasty white stuff. Like buttercream made with plain white Crisco. Ick. I scraped it off, unwilling to eat it or let my kid eat it. Ugh. Finally the apple fritter. At least it looked good. Glazed with sickeningly sweet sugar coating. No apple mixed throughout. Instead filled in a small area with more nasty fake/frozen apple filling. Needless to say I'm not pleased and would not eat at Daube Bakery again if the pastries were a quarter or even free. Not worth the effort to chew.

We have eaten here twice. Both times the food was excellent. The best French bread we have had since we were in Paris. French bread and good butter makes a great meal.

Disappointing. We have used this bakery for our twins birthday party two years in a row. Last year the order was incorrect. It was like pulling teeth for them to admit that the order was wrong and to get them to do something for us. They gave us frozen cupcakes that were the correct version and a percentage off our price. This year they were wrong again! When I tried to call them no one answered. When there was an option to leave a voice mail I selected that and it rang indefinitely. If this were a target or a HyVee bakery I would be a little more forgiving. But when you are paying nearly 3 dollars per cupcake and it's not correct that kinda bugs you. The cupcakes themselves are very high quality but the service is inexcusable. They don't listen when you call (if they answer the phone at all) and then they sorta treat you like they think it's your fault the order is wrong.

We just bought a chocolate birthday cake last week from Daubes and it was dry, did not have a good chocolate taste and was $37. Won't do that again. Now the carrot cake is very good!

Daube's is a bakery but I enjoy them more for their lunch-time food.....don't get me wrong I really do enjoy the cakes, donuts, long-johns, and other various delights but lunch is why I keep going back. well perhaps I have a thing for the world-famous carrot cake also......it is the best I have ever had...but back to the lunch. Everyday you have to get there early because they have some type of little special hot sandwich and they sell out it has been ruebens, cubans, pizza, other things...but there is always some good soups with bread, oh yeah the bread is awesome too....and they have cheap prewrapped po-boys if you need to grab and go----they have ample seating to just hang and enjoy yourself with a friend also.....The cakes they decorate are gorgeous....they are a winner in my book...

So i'm visiting my friend L in Rochester from CA... and I'm from the Bay Area where they have some great bakeries.... But we were excited to try this place out. The outside is cute/quaint and when we went inside the baked goods looked so cute! I took a picture of the outside and so when we went inside, I snapped a picture too. Then I put my camera away to scan the menu. The man there though was kind of unnecessarily rude though. As we were waiting to order he said, "You shouldn't take pictures without asking the manager." I was a little taken aback, so I apologized and offered to delete it. Without acknowledging the apology he said, "You shouldn't take those pictures." It was ONE, little man, ONE! How do you gain publicity/popularity by being such a harrumphy little grumpus. Thankfully, the lady was pretty nice. We ordered the chicken noodle soup, french bread, and vienna bread. and then three donuts: apple fritter, raspberry patzky(?), and a white long john. the soup tasted like it was made from buillion cubes (chicken flavored ramen anyone?), and the noodles were really limp. The french bread was crusty, and the vienna bread was.. soft.. but there was nothing amazing about them flavorwise.. just something to accompany the soup. My apple fritter was okay. some parts had a bitter-ish aftertaste (i think it was a little overfried on the tips).. apple fritters are my favorite, so it's hard for me to dislike this. the jelly patzky? putsky? was like a normal jelly donut. and the long john's frosting was overpowering and the donut itself was okay. Basically, a lot of hype over nothing too special. I mean congratulations on its anniversaries and all, but if you have mediocre to good tasting pastries you shouldn't be so mean. I have to say though, the cakes were decorated well, and it was all very quaint. I prefer Acme Bread and Crixa Cakes in the Bay Area.

As a longtime Rochester resident (who is now in New York), I am a huge fan of this place. Obviously it's hard for me to be objective about it because it's tied to so many memories but for those of you who are only eating the donuts... you're missing out! Daube's has tons of amazing other options. I actually don't even think I've ever had a donut. I freaking love their kolaches (a buttery, crispy, soft pastry filled with different types of fruit) and their cakes. If they ever are selling slices of cake, just buy one! You will not be disappointed. Love their chiffon cakes and their carrot cake. I always stop by here whenever I'm home.

We love going to Daubes for their Sunday breakfast! Good service, good food! The cakes are yummy, and the doughnuts are so good!

I've had better apple fritters, but Daubes are the best in town and definitely still rank high on the list. The chocolate covered Bavarian cream doughnuts and their carrot cake are delicious as well (:

Daube's was a joy to visit. I went there, did that, but wasn't able to get a T-shirt because they were out of my size. Overall, the food was phenomenal, but the service was less than stellar. The quiche (with mushrooms and tomatoes) was the creamiest I have ever had. The potatoes, albeit under-seasoned, were a great compliment to the creamy quiche. I also got a maple long john with bacon toppping on the side, which was a wonderful combination of salty and sweet. I took home a coconut ginger cake, which was buttery delicious but not very ginger-y. The lack-luster service started with the description of the quiche flavors. The server just gave a laundry list of ingredients but did not make an indication of which ones were together in the same quiche (or how many quiche-of-the-day flavors there were). She also did not specify the different toasts available, but just asked, "what kind of toast would you like with that?" and had to be prompted for the actual options. Additionally, the couple sitting next to me had to send back soup that was cold. It took so long to be returned that the other person was completely finished with her meal by the time it was heated and brought out. Despite this, I will return. Even if the service was not great, it gave off the charm of being a mom-and-pop shop with local flair rather than being aggravating. And the food is worth a little bit of bad service.

This place is the only bakery in town that is worth going to. But with that said, it's okay for donuts if you get there fairly early in the morning. The glazed aren't exactly Krispy Kreme amazing (you can get better with Kwik trip Glazers), but they are better than the store bought Hyvee ones. The bear claws are pretty good. The cupcakes are pretty good. For my son's birthday at school, I was able to order almost a dozen cupcakes the same day and they offered to decorate them quickly too. Granted, some were frozen and easily thawed and just as good. The only thing that is hit or miss is the service. There is the man at the counter at times who expresses that I SHOULDN'T use my American Express card, but they do take it, but then states that the business has to take a huge charge of $5 for every transaction that is measly... Hello, you sell DONUTS and PASTRIES. I can totally understand that (owning my business too), but what you don't do is chide the customer in using that card- as a business, they could just NOT accept the card in general. The lady that is usually at the counter is always super helpful though. I am not a fan of the sign that they have that advertises what they have as a special, because a couple of times I have been in requesting their special, then they don't have it. Suggestion don't order what they have on the sign.

I hear their cakes are outstanding, but I haven't tried them. However, I have tried their donuts, and I must say, as a donut enthusiast, I was severely unimpressed. The icing was more like frosting, and it very well may have been supplied by the pillsbury doughboy himself. Also, it wasn't as soft and fresh as I would have expected from a place that specializes in baked goods.

Soooo good! I discovered this place yesterday and its going to be my fav stop while in Rochester. After sampling a very tasty feta sandwich on a poppyseed baguette, a croissant, a pretzel, they were all very good, the staff was pleasant and very patient with us.

Love that my 100th review can be about a place that's so awesome. I will say that I've only had the donuts here, but those alone are worth 5 stars! The donuts are so popular that you can call ahead the day before and "reserve" donuts for yourself the next morning. I did that, and felt a little weird (who reserves donuts?) but the person I spoke with was very nice and assured me that people do it all the time. Reserved two long johns (one chocolate, and one cream cheese). They were ready and waiting when I arrived the next morning, as I drove through Rochester on my way to Chicago. People, you need to try the long johns!!! Make a trip to Rochester just for those. It's easily the best donut I've ever eaten. Light and airy inside, with just a slight crisp to the outside. They're not overly sugary, and the icing is flavorful, and not overpowering. The cream cheese version was insanely good. They slice the LJ lengthwise, and spread on a cross between a custard and cream cheese frosting. Amazing! If you go, do be sure to reserve your donuts! It's totally worth it. Once I arrived on a weekday a little after 9:30 and the huge donut case had a few cake donuts left and only maple frosted long johns. This place also has a very nice assortment of baked goods, breads, and they serve lunch.

Best bakery in town. Consistent quality. Excellent pastries--especially love the apple fritters (definitely the best in town) and my coworkers always appreciate an assortment including the cinnamon rolls. The cakes are perfect for any occasion and never disappoint with the standard carrot cake being my favorite.

Excellent pastries. I also stayed for lunch (I was there for a meeting) and had their orzo chicken soup which was outstanding.

The breads and pastries are fine (nothing exceptional but it is one of the few bakeries in Rochester) but the service is AWFUL! Every time I go in there (which is becoming less and less frequent), they act inconvenienced and annoyed that you are there. Isn't this your job? I'm not asking for anything above and beyond... a simple smile or "hello" when you walk in would suffice. Just don't glare at me and act like me buying donuts and croissants from you just ruined your day.

Cynthia Daube did our wedding cake, it was an awesome experience. The initial sitdown with her was a tasting experience of all the cakes and fillings and frostings they do. From that we picked what we wanted, and talked about shape/design some. The end results were just awesome. We've gone back almost every year for a small anniversary cake that's just as good as our wedding cake was. If you're getting married in Rochester, or have any other celebration that calls for a really good cake, this is by far the place to go.

Great bakery. Primarily a breakfast/coffee place, but they have some limited but quality lunch options. The new croissants are the best. Nice selection of great pastries. Two locations, the downtown one has a more limited selection as things are baked at the civic center location and trucked over. The downtown location (Jaspers) turns into a bistro at night. Alsatian food prepared well. Limited wine list, small but nice beer selection, amazing amazing desserts.

Probably the best bakery in town, worth going here for your cake for special occasions.

All I can say is YUM. This is the best bakery in Rochester. I like to treat myself occasionally after a work-out to something sweet, and this place is just the ticket. I went to a weding last weekend where Daube's had made the cake, it was the most beautiful thing, and it was carrot cake with cream cheese icing, amazing. If you want to make brownie points with your coworkers pick up a box of donuts here.

Stopped in for a couple of doughnuts this afternoon. I was soooooooo hungry (missed lunch). Well, by 3PM the selection was limited, but they still had several things I liked. I picked a maple frosted long john for me and an Apricot Kolache for my wife. Both were excellent examples of the breed. No complaints of flavor. Texture of the doughnut was soft, and the cream did not have that cloying sweet taste some places have. The Kolache was crisp with a coarse sugar glaze. I loved the Apricot filling. Price was a little steep, but still well worth it ($2 each). Service was friendly and quick. This is a nice clean shop. They will have been open 25 years in Feb - Happy Birthday.

I am so proud of my hometown so took some friends there for Sunday Brunch. They are not a scraggly group...two of them head international organizations. One is In retail..NY , Chicago and LA. Not having done brunch at Daubes I stood in line only to have the gal in charge come at me like a lioness protecting her babies. She informed me That I was in the line for pastries. there was No other line. She asked How many? She was told six adults and a baby. Sounding irritated , she asked, So is that seven or six? Someone answered six adults and a baby. Now very irritated she replied, that would be seven wouldn't it? After seating us the business woman addressed our group" This is a small farming town. The service is terrible and rude. These people obviously live a very hard scrabble life." Her analysis is not the Rochester I know which serves with quiet confidence and kindness visitors from all over the world. It is not the reputation any of us wish to cultivate, especially when we wish to be a "destination" city. To make that analysis seem more correct, the gal In charge dropped a spoon and kicked it across the floor. The food was pretty much what you would expect at a small deli...good but not over the top. The carrot cake and apple sour cream torte are truly delicious

I went for Sunday brunch and was disappointed with the food and the service. The ambience - people packed into tables close to each other with a lot of noise - also left something to be desired. I waited at the door to be seated (as instructed by the sign) for 5-10 minutes while several employees walked by several times without saying anything. (Seating was available). I had a mushroom and Swiss Omelet which came served with potatoes and limp toast. The Omelet was the best part of the meal, though a bit heavy on the cheese. The sides were disappointing (why must they sprinkle cheese on potatoes?) and the coffee was terrible. I don't think I'll be returning for brunch here.

Very very good bakery. My sister in law had her wedding cake made here and it was absolutely amazing.

Daube's pastries, doughnuts, and cookies are divine - they sell some of the best bear claws I've ever eaten, and I've had a lot of bear claws (seriously - vast quantities of bear claws- multitudes, even). I've also had their cakes at a number of birthday parties, and they are both beautiful and delicious (especially the carrot cake!). The poorboy sandwiches offered around lunch are fantastic; they're made on Daube's freshly baked bread with quality fillings and a tasty herb-y mayonnaise. They do run out relatively early in the day, so get there early if you want to choose from a full selection. Daube's also offers a morning brunch on the weekends with exemplary quiche, omelettes, and other breakfast fare. I have yet to receive poor service at Daube's, and have been treated consistently well by the staff. They don't offer the saccharine faux-smiley service that some patrons expect, but they have always been attentive and helpful during my visits. I recently stopped by in the afternoon hoping to grab a sandwich, and saw that they had run out. As I was going out the door, an employee ran out from behind the counter, and apologized, explaining that they had sold out early. Sounds like good service to me. Daube's is definitely worth checking out for a quick pastry treat, or a satisfying sandwich. Highly recommended.
