I've eaten here many times before. Never had a bad experience. Tonight, I was wowed by the server, Nicole. She was exceptionally effective. It was comfort food night for the 3 of us. Mac and Cheese, chicken, onion rings, nothing fancy, but an all around great evening. Keep it up you guys!

If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, do not come here. The website boasts that they can accommodate any special diet because items are prepared from scratch. When we asked for a pasta without a meat sauce, they informed us that the marinara sauce was pre-made and it could not be done. We chose the restaurant because we are vegetarians and we had vegans with us. We looked at a menu online that offered many vegetarian options. These items were not available on our menu. We received our food after a long wait. It may have been that the restaurant was understaffed due to an event in town. In fairness, if you choose one of their house specialities, you should be okay. The fish tacos were good. Our server was polite and did apologize that we were unable to find something that would meet our dietary needs.

Do not come here if you have food allergies. Two people in my party have the same food allergy so I asked the hostess if it would be difficult for us to order. She was friendly, but almost indifferent to our concerns, yet agreed to ask the chef. She (supposedly) talked to the chef, but her response was much different than what the waitress told us. Waitress was very friendly and helpful, but the chef didn't offer many options because almost all the proteins, sauces, potatoes, and veggies are pre-seasoned. Only veggie option for us was asparagus, only potato was a baked sweet potato, and no chicken. One of us ate white fish that was unseasoned, pale, and looked unappetizing with a side of plain noodles topped with cold shredded cheese for $22. The other had a $8 bowl of fruit and a baked sweet potato. No bread was offered. The other people in my party had a pot pie that was runny (and not as good as KFC) and a burger that was delicious. Service was VERY slow.

Okay, help me out here. What the hell makes this outfit think they can ask you to spend $18 for a pasta dish AND THEN they still make you pay $3 extra to have a salad with it? As if that isn't enough of a rip off, could they toss 2 or 3 little grape tomatoes on that salad? No. They cut ONE dinky little grape tomato into quarters so that you can hardly taste it in a bite of salad.

I stay here for business up to 3 times a month. I have never been disappointed with the food or service. Friendly and personable staff. I have a piece of advice, stay away from Whitney! Very unprofessional in both appearance and actions. She is rude and condescending. This is the wrong business for her, and a mystery how she works for this chain which prides itself on service and customer first .

Ate there on May 17th. Was very good. I had chicken and ribs, my husband had jambalaya, and he loved it! Made him sweat, for him that means great! Had their house beer, he loved it. I had Rumchatta and a Rumchatta & root beer, very good. Excellent service.

Went in on a Tuesday night. The hostess was very friendly, and so was our server. However, service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was pretty quiet and there were an abundance of servers. Food was fine (I had the whitefish- the fish was 3 oz, large serving of mashed potatoes, 4 small/scraggly asparagus spears, for $21.99), but severely over-priced for the quality (entrees ranged from 15-25, with an additional $2.99 up charge for bagged lettuce salad). Not a horrible experience, but definitely not worth going back...

friendly staff, good food. Was there for New years eve, the restaurant was very busy but the staff was still friendly. I'd go back.

We were in Duluth last weekend (frigid, by the way!) and at here. The food was very good, wait staff very attentive, without being over-bearing, food arrived quickly, no mistakes. He had ribeye; I had pasta with shrimp and scallops. A great experience and leftovers for tomorrow!!

Attended a retirement party here. Good drinks, set up was nice, food was good. It was comfort food (not diet food) but it was a very cold, windy, wintry evening so comfort food was great.

Not a big fan. I had a walleye dinner. The serving of fish was small, there was almost no rice, and it was way overpriced. Go to Grandmas's if you want walleye. The drinks are also over priced. About the only cool thing is the train doing circles.

I know this is crazy, but I had dinner at Black Woods for nearly three weeks ...straight. I'm not kidding. I was working in Duluth, staying at the AmericInn in Proctor, which is connected to the Black Woods, and all I had to do was walk down a hallway to get to this fabulous restaurant. Let me tell you. I was happy after every meal. We always sat at the bar, where they have a number of comfortable booths, great waiters, fine beers on tap, and always a game on the at least 7 t.v.s.

A lot of the restaurants in this area leave a lot to be desired, but I really like this one. My parents live in Duluth and don't like it so I'd never been here. But when my fiance and I were in Duluth to watch the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race, he and I decided to stop here on our way out of town and was pleasantly surprised! I had the taco salad which was very tasty and my fiance ordered a soup and sandwich. The highlight was definitely the sweet cornbread that came with the soup. It was served warm and had a sugary crust. It also came with a sweetened, buttery spread which was so indulgent! We ended up splitting that for dessert. It was so unexpected and good! I'd definitely come here again, but might go to the one on London Road instead for the view of Lake Superior.
