Inside this unusually long shop there are places to lounge, drink coffee and chat. Then the walls are set up to look like a mock German village and the restaurant would be the alley; a chick would say that'd be cute. You get the idea. Their sandwiches and their desserts are great for lunch. I go with the New Ulm (I choose Turkey instead of Roast Beef) and ask for it nicely grilled with their homemade kettle chips. Also, of note are their soups like Tomato Basil and Unstuffed Pepper. The staff is the same friendly guy and girl with glasses often and they rock. 6 or 7 bucks for a nice cozy lunch that doesn't necessarily involve thin fried pork, a rarity in the proximity. A good tip is to postpone lunch until after 1 for much less of a line.
Great tiramisu, Carbonara and Creme Brûlée. The Espresso drinks are not strong enough for my tastes however. Huge ceilings and a ton of space.
(Now changed to Lola's) Not only is this a great hangout place for people of all ages, but it's pretty much the only place that has a classy and community feel in New Ulm. Because it is one of the only non-chain establishments in the town, it gives a nice break from what can be mundane and generic in contemporary small town America. Aside from the big-city, small intimate cafe feel of Lola's, the waitstaff is more than amazing at filling your crafty drink order, serving you a fresh, yet sinful desert or pastry, or making you an entree with ingredients that can't be found unless you venture to the culinary capitals of Minneapolis and St. Paul. So if you're looking for something other than Taco John's, Dairy Queen, Perkins, or the Ulmer Cafe, certainly venture here. It's a great place just for affordable coffee/tea time with friends, a quick more wholesome/hearty take-out, or a lazy lunch afternoon with friends.

The boneless wings were excellent. I wouldn't recommend getting the Cedar Lemon Chicken. I've had it at other locations, and this one had an odd taste to it. I was unable to finish it. Other than that, everything was satisfactory. Prices are a little steeper than I would like to see, at least compared to the portion sizes.

A great place to stay! Shannon and Todd were exceptional hosts, and the B&B feels like home. The house was built in 1893 and has a colorful past- ask! We had a wonderful breakfast both days, there are amenities such as sodas, coffee, ice cream, DVD, massage chairs, and chocolates by the bedside! Robes, toiletries, etc. .....Now... the only thing that unsettled me was the toilet in our room. I think it is called the Mckeith room. There is a divider, but...... We would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended.

Wife didn't care for hot potato salad, but we liked everything else. Breadsticks were really good as was the rye bread. I had the ribs which were good. Interesting sauce on the ribs - not the normal BBQ sauce, but good. We both had soups instead of salads and thought they were very good.
I wish I could give half stars so I could go 3.5. My meal was awesome. I had the Brat and hot German potato salad that came with kraut and rye bread and an appetizer breadstick. Best potato salad ever, and I've never liked a hot German potato salad before. Ever. My brat was delicious and the rye bread went perfectly with the potato salad. Now for the negatives: First, this is a German town with a brewery in town. You darn tootin' better have some draft beer on tap. Oops. They were out today. Still got some o the local beer, but in a bottle. The husband was not particularly impressed with his food.
My friend that is German says tastes almost like his family's home cooked meals. Had the sampler the chicken Kiev (AWESOME) and the ribs. Plus a couple of beers. Staff was friendly and pieces reasonable.

The thing I dig about this place is they have both American style Mexican, for amateurs :) and more authentic choices. My go-to is definitely the Carnitas with a side of homemade Habanero salsa. The habanero salsa is not on the menu and you have to ask for it special, some of the servers don't even know that it exists, but it's well worth searching it out. Absolutely outrageous! Between the carnitas and the Carne Asada Tacos, you can't go wrong. And they have the american burritos for the kiddies.
The food is really good and the servers are all very nice. It's a great place for a group, too, always enough room for however many you have at your table!
We stopped here with a group on a Saturday night and the place was packed so I was worried about getting a table but surprisingly we were seated right away. Service was fast, everyone said their food was great. Mine tasted great but could have been a little warmer. Overall it is a great restaurant and I would definitely go back again.

Home cooking ... seriously! Great for breakfast .... they open at 530am and close at 2pm. We were greeted like family - at least, like family that sees each other often. "Hi, have a seat, can I get you something" The food was yummy ... the rye bread was the amazing German dark rye. Decor is kitschy and cute. It is a small town diner and it looks and feels like one. The person working the counter and serving people (owner?) was super nice and sat down with us when we had questions about the town. She was very nice, very helpful!
On the way through town my husband and I were wanting the small town greasy spoon food for lunch. Based on the other reviews we decided to try the Ulmer Cafe and it did not disappoint. The burgers were tasty and flavorful. I had the tator tots and they were fried to perfection. They do close at 2:00 so be sure to stop in for lunch. The prices were reasonable and the portions were generous.
I've been coming here for years with my parents. Great home made soups and various dishes with sauerkraut are always good. 1919 root beer on tap!
