I've been eating here for 15 years, and they never fail to impress me. Possibly the best ice cream in the nation. Every time I come back to the Cities, I make sure to pop in a grab whatever delicious seasonal craziness they're offering. I really wish I had a food simulator like Captain Picard in Star Trek: NG and instead of saying "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot." I could say "Ice Cream. Sonny's. Crema." And then BAM! like magic, sparkly swirlies would appear in the air, synthesizer sound effects would zing, and I would have a delicious scoop of Sonny's perfect ice cream, in the most perfect flavor of all time. I haven't lived in Mpls in 12 years, and I miss Sonny's ice cream every day. Sad face.

YUM. We ran inside at the beginning of a torrential downpour, so I was absolutely freezing, but the ice cream was amazing. I tasted honey lavender, lemon prosecco, chocolate with chocolate nubs, and brown butter pecan. All were amazing. The most outstanding was lemon prosecco, with its slightly alcoholic bite. I will be back.

I've had lots of ice-cream on all 5 continents, and this is truly excellent - the best ice-cream I've had in the US. Rather than using different flavorings, they actually infuse good, local cream with the actual ingredient. For example, they steep their cream in good espresso to make their signature Crema ice-cream. They also have lots of unique flavors - strawberry and basil, ripe banana, pesto, and cardamom & black pepper, olive oil. The last two are my favorites. One of the nicest patios in the city too.

I want to give this place a better review, but my experience dining there last night was pretty bunk. First, they were out of the Prosecco. Then I ordered a beer, and they were out of the kind I ordered too. I ordered the vegan pizza, which is supposed to have olives, but guess what? They were out of olives. They didn't bother telling me until they served me the veggie-less pizza. My boyfriend waited for well over an hour for his pizza. The rest of our table had finished our meals and hung out for 20 minutes or so before it finally appeared. They first offered a free scoop of ice-cream for the mess they created, but we talked them into comping his pizza. On the plus side, their patio is gorgeous. They were great about accepting my dogs on the patio, and the food and sorbet was really good. I will definitely give Crema another chance and hope to up their rating the next time. It's such an adorable place.

I can only rate the sorbet here but man I rate it with enthusiasm. Expensive but a delicious treat. I can't eat dairy so it was wonderful to be able to still have some options for a nice summer treat. Wonderful outdoor seating nook here nestled in between Crema and another building. Just gorgeous and very cozy! A nice place to go with a friend, partner, or maybe even a date, for conversation. The outdoor area is especially pretty in the evening/night.

Nothing really special about the Portobello Mushroom Paninis we had here. I know I could get the exact same sandwich at a Panera Bread. The ambiance is nice, but there needs to be more of a clear definition between the cafe area and the restaurant dining space. The ice cream is really really good though.

The location is perfect, right on Lyndale. The restaurant itself is adorable; it's cozy and beautifully decorated. I've had the burger, which is pretty dang good! I've also had several of the ice cream/sorbet flavors and my favorite remains to be the Cucumber Mint Sorbet. A must try!!!

There are two reasons to go to Crema. The ice cream and the patio. I've never had the food, but even if it was terrible I'd still walk over for ice cream on the patio. Their patio is like being in Europe - at least that is what I'm told since I haven't been to Europe yet. The ice cream is delicious and the flavors rotate pretty often and are always interesting. Try the guiness ice cream - or get a guiness float with vanilla ice cream in it. Or you can what we love to do; order a few scoops of ice cream and a bottle of prosecco. Go soon while the weather is perfect for this sort of thing.

The best ice cream place I've eaten at, period. Everything is made in small, small batches with either organic or local ingredients, so the ice cream is fresh, flavorful and creamy. The flavors rotate out (with the exception of the Crema flavor as well as a standard Vanilla Bean or some version of chocolate - there are like, fifty). If you're lactose intolerant, they've got a selection of sorbets too, which have a lower dairy content and have been a lot gentler on my LI friend. Crema also has an adorable little patio that vaguely reminds me of a little Italian piazza. It's absolutely perfect for a warm summer day. Unfortunately, Sonny, the man behind it all, recently died, and there's currently a sweet little tribute to him set up on one of the tables inside. I wonder if he'd be flattered to know that because of him I was inspired to attempt making my own ice cream? Granted, I'm no expert yet, but I don't think anyone can really replace Sonny.

Double it up! I've been coming here for a couple of years now and I'm so glad I came across it because it's my favorite ice cream place so far, here's why: Thumbs up: -variety of flavors that taste like what it is -fresh artisan ice cream -local, affordable deliciousness -real food and treats yum! -patio seating that's dog friendly like your in another lovely country -good service -hands down best flavor: Crema Thumbs down: -not enough Sonnys around -a lil pricey, but hey you get what you pay for! Give me a double scoop!

OMG! This place is amazing! The best gelato I've ever had! This would be a daily habit if I didn't live 2000 miles away! Enjoy!

Really delicious, really expensive gelato and sorbets makes Crema Cafe a Fancy Place. Not for everyday., unless you are somewhat wealthy. I really enjoyed my sorbet and Perrier spritzer. The fizziness and light taste of sorbet paired well together. You can sub the bubbly water for actual bubbly for an adults-only dessert. The boozy sorbets were delicious too in an alcoholic sort of way. I hate to be a miser when the frozen goods are so good, but it was a bit painful to part my ten bucks for two scoops of sorbet and a bottle of Perrier. A single scoop was probably a more frugal idea. But if I'm feeling rich on a hot day, I'll probably end up back here.

I absolutely adore this place! The ice cream is the best in the Twin Cities. The ambience & staff are wonderful. Always a fun stop.

Even though the gelato and ice cream is a little on the pricey side I will keep coming back again and again! The gelato is not your average gelato, it is the perfect level of sweetness and they always mix up the flavors. Every time I try a new flavor it is a wonderful experience. They really know their stuff! Some of the flavors I've had are Guinness, Lavender, Butter, and Tiramisu. All are amazing! Not only do they have decadent ice cream and gelato but also a really cool patio area. It feels very secluded even though it is right by a busy intersection. Love coming here on warm summer nights.

The ice cream was good but I asked the worker I asked for pistachio ice cream and she gave me honey and sunflower ice cream and then when I came back to tell her her mistake she completely denied it and the signs were swapped around and it was horrible

Decent flavors (pistachio was the best out of the several I tasted) but an utter and complete rip off as many others have pointed out. Was charged $21 for a scoop of ice cream and one bottle of Brooklyn Lager beer. shocking. You could buy an entire 6 pack of Brooklyn Lager and a full quart of Sonny's ice cream from Kowalskis for a few bucks less!

What a cute spot. My boo used to work here way back when Crema was the name of the game, and he took me here on a smothering humid and hot day. We tried four sorbet flavors: raspberry, Pinot noir, umami, mango and paired then 2x2 just like Noah's ark. It was the best ever!! The flavors paired amazingly well and each one on its own was delicious. The spaces to sit outside are so cute! One side has picnic like tables enough for 4-6 and the other side has two seat tables for a romantic moment that go all the way back along the restaurant. It looks like an Italian abode tucked away. I cannot wait to go back again and try their ice cream or dinner menu.

Pretty disappointed in this place. Julia G. and I had such high hopes as we live only blocks from here. It's always been the dream to have an awesome ice cream spot right down the road! We normally walk down to the BP on Lyndale and grab a carton of Ben & Jerry's for 5 bucks but we thought we'd try this place out instead. I regret not just getting the Ben & Jerry's... Immediately upon walking into Sonny's you will notice a great interior with dim lighting and a really intimate vibe. They are going for classy but I've never found classy to mix with ice cream. They have a long bar offering a selection of wines and ice cream. We stepped up to the glass and saw they have a lot of interesting flavors. I feel they were trying to be too creative. I sampled 3 or 4 and didn't really like any of them. Maybe I'm just lame but I was looking for a more generic flavor like cookies and creme, cookie dough, moose tracks anything with some nice caramel or peanut butter chucks. Something terribly fattening and full of sugar. However the closest I could come was there coconut ice cream. It was good not great and It was so rich in flavor I was sick of it after the third bite. Which in the case of their portions was over half of the whole cup of ice cream. The reason it gets two stars is because how over priced it is for how much they give you. Even if I was in love with the ice cream I would still be disappointed on how very little they give you. When they say one scoop they aren't kidding it's literally just one scoop. I could get ten times that amount of ice cream for half the price at my go to spot for ice cream downtown Stillwater.

What a GREAT place! The service here is AMAZING. We came in looking forward to some ice cream and decided to stay for dinner. Our waiter was fantastic - he was always laughing, giving great tips on the menu, checking up on us even after we paid the bill. They didn't rush us at all in sampling 5-10 flavors before making a decision. They educated us and introduced us to flavors we've never experienced before. One good scoop of ice cream was about $4. Well worth it considering the unique flavors. We also got the creamy pasta (can't remember the name - $13?) that was VERY filling, awesomely rich and the mushrooms and bacon really rounded out the flavors in the pasta. I got a Sonny burger ($9) which was pretty good too. It came with corn chips and you could upgrade to salad or fries. It was quality meat but wasn't very different from other quality burgers you get around town. The ice cream is a bit pricey but considering the entire experience, if you stay for the ambience, it's totally worth it. We didn't get a chance to sit in the atrium area, but it looked perfectly intimate, European, and was the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor seating. Will definitely be back. Note: It's a great place to people watch while studying or working, if you don't need Internet.

Just your average ice cream shop, very small and not a lot of selections. Pricing was a little high for the amount of ice cream you get so that was a con. The ice cream itself was okay nothing special. Would I make this my go to ice cream spot, probably not. Neighborhood and parking was great!

  • Linli F.

My boyfriend and I have made it a mission to try out all the unique and rather "hidden" ice cream gems in Minnesota and this was next on our list. I was a little doubtful after trying some parlors that we'd never heard about before only to be disappointed, but this was not the case! This place doubles up as a restaurant and ice cream shop so upon entrance, you'll be asked which you're looking for. The staff are really friendly and accommodating, ESPECIALLY to someone so incredibly indecisive like me. I literally think I sampled more than half the flavors, I'd be annoyed myself if I was the worker, but she just kept smiling and giving me recommendations. If you're a sorbet type of person, THIS is the place to go. I actually didn't try any of their sorbets this time around, but they had SO many different sorbet flavors, the most I've ever seen at an ice cream parlor and they're quite unique flavors! Now, on to the ice cream. They have such a large variety of flavors, you can't go wrong coming here. They have the typical flavors that everyone enjoys like cookies and cream, and then the very unique ones like olive oil, matcha, etc. After probably taking much too long to decide, I got a double scoop of maple syrup walnut and strawberry with angel food cake. What I really enjoyed about the maple syrup walnut was the walnut was grounded up and thoroughly mixed within the ice cream instead of having just regular ice cream with a few actual walnuts here and there. It was so delicious and not overwhelmingly sweet, but just the right amount. The angel food cake mixed in the strawberry ice cream was very light and was such a good touch. The ice cream was creamy and just melted in my mouth. Ugh, drooling thinking about it now. Double scoop came out to $8 something, so I would say it's quite pricey for what you're getting, especially because the portion is quite small. But overall, I really enjoyed it and this would definitely be a place I would try again.. maybe just not so often. My wallet would hate me otherwise.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! From their variety of flavors to their delicious ice creams to their adorable outdoor patio, everything is so perfect! I tried a few ice creams before deciding on the Margarita Sorbet - it tasted exactly like a Margarita and even had Tequila in it! I also tried the Cardamom Black Pepper Ice Cream and the Organic Strawberry Basil w/a touch of Aged Balsamic Vinegar Ice Cream. Both were good but the Strawberry etc. one was so well crafted and had the perfect amount of each flavor. Our group sat outside in their patio and it is one of the best patios I have seen in a while. It is a small area filled with flowers, plants, vines along the side of the building, and smaller tables. They had French music playing with beautiful glass lights hanging in the middle and on the sides. I felt like I walked into an authentic French bistro patio. My whole group enjoyed sitting out there for a while even after we finished our ice cream. I will definitely be back for drinks, food, and plenty more ice cream. Such a cute place I have overlooked for a while but am glad I decided to check out!

I seek out local ice cream vendors in every city that I visit. In Minneapolis, Sonny's caught my eye because of the reviews of their unique flavors (pesto, black pepper, etc). The setting is different than most ice cream establishments, because it is an ice cream counter within a cafe, which is a little odd if you just want ice cream. There is no menu board anywhere listing prices and the paper menu at the counter only gave prices for food/beverage on the cafe side, not the ice cream. I see people have posted photos in the past of a menu board, perhaps it was taken down that day? My husband and I both got two scoops in a cup and the total was $15 - $7.50 for a (not very large) double scoop!!! I must have made a surprised face, as the cashier started explaining to me that they use organic cream, etc... That is great, but I've had organic ice cream in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country and paid way less. All of this would have been acceptable, had the ice cream been amazing - it wasn't. Sure they had a lot of unique flavors, but the taste of the flavors was not nearly strong enough. We just got a hint of flavor from each scoop. The texture was very poor as well. I found the ice cream to be very crumbly. The sorbet flavors seemed to be much more robust and the texture was better. Perhaps that is the way to go. On the positive side, the service was friendly and the patio was lovely.

Pricey as fuck ice cream at ~$3.50 for a single flavor tiny scoop. Unique flavors, my personal faves so far are the multi-melon sorbet, caramel with fleur de sel, and coconut sweet corn. I ended up returning the very next day to make my wallet bleed more tears because the ice cream actually TASTED expensive and painstakingly handcrafted with local ingredients (I shit you not).

The options of sweet product are amazing!! So hard to choose just one! However, the prices are fairly high yet the quality is worth it! If I could go there everyday and not gain weight with an endless supply of funds I would! The service is also outstanding!

This little shop of heaven is just close enough for a summer walk but far enough we don't go every day. Good thing because it is good enough to go to multiple times a day. A frequently changing array of handcrafted ice creams and sorbets feature a mixture of the obvious and the eye-brow-raisers. There are rarely any misses despite the experimentation. The ingredients are top notch and as fresh as possible. It's a bit pricey per scoop but well worth it. Their patio is one of the best around. It's just a little slice wedged in between buildings but gives the feel of a Mediterranean hideaway.

On a hot day, trying to get out of the heat, Crema was just the ticket. The interior here is quite charming and had it been cooler outside, we certainly would have enjoyed the side patio. While we were just there for a sweet treat of Sonny's ice cream, they appear to have lunch and dinner and perhaps even a good place for a drink. I'd love one in my neighborhood.

I would give this 10 stars if I could. Black Pepper & Cardamon? Jalapeno mango gelato? Not just fun to say, fun to eat. Can't believe that I labored under the illusion that Izzy's was the best ice cream in town. HA! Go for brunch too. It might be somewhat expensive, but it's good. And that ice cream? Damn. Damn. Damn.

I've never been disappointed by an ice cream flavor here. You can always try before you buy, which is nice, too. It's all homemade and they have unique flavors all the time. I can't speak to their food menu, but the Guinness float is fantastic. Carrie, the owner, is also incredibly nice.

I've oddly never been here for Sonny's ice cream that makes them famous, but I came for brunch with my mom a couple of months ago and forgot to write about it. First of all, the space is so, so cute. It reminds me of a cozy French bistro with that garden and little outdoor patio. It was too cold for us to be outside at the time, but the inside is just as nice. I got the very organic Green Mountain ($13), which includes a light salad, potato pancake, homemade veggie burger, tomato spread and a poached egg. It was good, but I was totally jealous of my mom's Croque Madame. I'd get that next time. We didn't have room for dessert, but had I been hungry I would have indulged in some ice cream or one of the B.T. McElrath chocolate bars sitting at the register. The best part for me about Crema was the service. We were warmly taken care of from the minute we walked in. Lovely people work here... go see them.

Food is great, as well as the ice cream! Would give 5 stars if not for closing early sometimes - disappointing to get glared from workers when you're outside wanting ice cream on a Saturday night.

I know that Crema Cafe only serves food during certain hours. I arrived 15 minutes before closing, but was looking forward to brunch. "Sit at any table that is set", the sign greeted me as I walked in. So, I did. I waited about five minutes before, well, no one approached me. The staff ignored eye contact as they were closing out their tills. (I know, I came in 15 minutes before close). I had to approach the counter to get served and to pay my bill at the end. I know it's a small, mom-n-pop type of joint, and I'm in favor of that. But I feel strongly about a business being available to provide a service within the times advertised. The Croque Madame was adequate. Almost. The sourdough toast was a little stale, and there was literally a quarter-moon sliver of roma tomato under the ham. The mornay sauce was to-die-for; smooth, savory, creamy. But otherwise, the sandwich was lacking and the potatoes were nothing special. I really wanted to like this place, and I am difficult to displease. It just didn't live up to the high hopes I held, and it's expensive to boot.

Crema Cafe has been my go-to favoritest place since it opened. The atmosphere is warm, the staff knowledgable and the product second-to-none. Those who are whining about the price cannot know the quality of the products used are top notch, that no skimping takes place as every pint IS truly hand-packed. With organic, high end ingredients, care & attention to detail put into every aspect of the end product, comparing cost to a volume-produced ice cream is not comparing apples to apples. Crema Cafe is a diamond in the rough, I just wish another was available closer to where I live!

Really wanted to try the lunch menu items here, but alas, it was not to be.... Website says summer hours vary, so I called and listened to the message saying they opened at 2 pm. We arrived and found they were only serving ice cream. Would have been nice to know! We had made a special trip and were sorely disappointed. The only way you can visit this Cafe is if you happen to be in the area and have a plan B. Calling ahead won't help.

Love it! Adorable little cafe, serving delish food and wonderful coffee. Bacon & Carmelized Onion hash, to die for! Eggs were perfectly cooked so that they oozed happily onto the hash. Tomato Basil soup was just the amount of basil for me, yum! My experience with the service was top notch. But you'd expect that from one of the owners, right? The other staff serving us were equally friendly and took the time to tell us the Sonny's story. As you may know this is also the place they make Sonny's Ice Crem. So onto the ice cream review. Izzy's & Sebastian Joe's...you have competition in my book for best ice cream. One appeal for me are the sorbet options and I dig the unusual ice cream flavors to choose from.

Really displeased with the service and attitude. Went in late and the place was empty. Requested a cone with 1/2 a scoop each of 2 different kinds of flavors. 'Can't do that' was the terse response. I understand they have rules, but is it forbidden to smile, to deliver the rules with some gentleness, with a 'I'm sorry but...'? I walked out.. The last time I was there they were out of all desserts except ice creams. Next time I'll admire the sidewalk gardens and keep driving. And go to Sebastian or Izzy's for my ice cream treats.

The perfect date begins and ends with Crema Cafe. Your place is truly a hidden treasure in this city. Who doesn't love to treat themselves or their loved ones to sweet chocolate, delicate wines and enticing fruity sorbet! HOMEMADE!! I can't wait to take my nephew out on an "ice cream date" this summer for his first Crema sorbet!!! I love your atmosphere, you really give the feeling of traveling to another country (France or Italy) yet never leaving home. It's quite relaxing and romantic - more things in life should be.

After a long evening of Shenanigans followed by a Minuscule amount of Sleep, I set off for a Sunday Morning Mocha. My original destination was not Crema Cafe. It was Wuollet Bakery in Edina. However they were closed. So I randomly drove around looking for a message from the Universe on where to go. When I saw Crema Cafe, I knew the Universe had answered me. You cannot ignore the Universe as hard as you may try. This place has been on my radar for ice cream for a while. They also have delicious coffee. The atmosphere? Very chill. Sunday brunch in Crema Cafe means lots of Uptown girls wearing their Sunday Best sitting at tables chatting about their week. In the summer, I can only imagine how delightful the patio would be. I had salted caramel ice cream and tried a few others and boy, it was all great. I rank it right up there with Pumphouse Creamery and the gelato at Patisserie 46. Is it better? I dunno? Who's better, Jesus or Muhammad or Buddha? These types of questions are best left for gurus and pundits to argue over. For commoners like you and me, all we have to do is sit back and enjoy the deliciousness of it all. I've come to the conclusion if you like ice cream and live in the Twin Cities, it's an embarrassment of riches. Oh yeah, I also had the mocha (which is currently fueling this review). It had a strong coffee flavor. Probably due to my palette having just had sweet ice cream. But it was a GREAT coffee flavor, very smooth. Drinking it I felt like I was exploring the jungles of Guatemala in search of ancient artifacts or perhaps the fountain of youth. Yes, it was that good. I'll be back for sure. Parking, I think, is street only, which is normal for this area.

What's cool about this place, is the unique flavors. Very cool. What's not cool about it? The price! For a DINKY scoop, you pay almost $5. Why? Why? Also not cool is the adult woman server who obviously has delusions of grandeur. I mean, why act all hoity toity with your nose up when you're just slinging ice cream for the sweaty neighborhood folk. Seriously, she had the attitude of the stereotypical French waiter...silent nod with eyes that would close, and flat expressionless face....strange.

Also known as Sonny's ice cream (i think). I only had ice cream here, which means i might have to revisit this review. Yes, we had ice cream in the winter. It was wonderful. Focusing on the ice cream, they didnt have any whacky outlandish flavors - and i stuck to the classics anyways. very good, try it. then carry on with your life. we all scream. for ice cream.

Thursday night is cheap date night and I highly recommend taking your best girlfriend there so that it's not wasted on a guy that "sort of likes ice cream." They have amazing vegetarian options including a stellar mushroom pesto panini that just kicked my royal highness straight up into the atmosphere only to come down for the full array of ice cream choices. BECAUSE YES CHEAP DATE NIGHT INCLUDES TWO ICE CREAMS. If you have a table inside or out, you're in luck because either will be a very intimate and pleasant experience.

I went out of my way to come back here to try a few more samples and actually get a full scoop of something. I tried two more things but I ended up grabbing the cardamom and black pepper. It's perfection. The two flavors just compliment each other so well and the ice cream is not too rich or too creamy. I wish I lived closer to this place....though I would def. weigh 400 pounds because ice cream is my weakness.

The ice cream/sorbet here is so amazing, it's super high quality and made on site with all natural local ingredients. The food here is really great too, they do brunch on the weekends and dinner most nights, and just like the ice cream the food is made with natural and local ingredients. The atmosphere here is outstanding. It's casual but classy and reminds me of the of the little gelato and coffee shops I visited when I was in Italy. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back for sure.

Best ice cream I've had in Minneapolis. Not too sweet, very creamy, small portions. Brilliant, unique flavors. Great ambiance! I have yet to eat food here. It's on my to-do list for sure.

How do companies/restaurants survive without good communication? You might want to have some surveillance done to make sure they are "open" when you'd like to visit. And when I mean open, I'm talking about open to eat lunch, or dinner, etc. (not just open for ice cream). The website and voice message is not clear, so I'd definitely recommend reconnaissance work before you go. BTW, I mentioned this to the gal when we got there about how confusing the website was, and how the voice message was useless, and she said "I've heard this many times before and I'll mention something to the owners."

After being a long time Sonny's ice cream fan, decided to check out Crema for brunch. I loved it! -Cozy atmosphere -Amazing food! Ordered the brioche french toast for myself (rivals Town Talk for Best French Toast of my Life status). Big, thick, airy slices with carmelized bananas and real syrup. Oh so good. Stole bites of my friend's hash. Also delicious! -World's best coffee: Intelligencia. Previously only had been able to induldge on visits to Chicago and was delighted to find it here. Would definitely go back!

Sometimes I like to stick my belly way out and pretend I'm uber pregnant so that it gives me a "legitmate" excuse to cruise in to an ice cream shop ten minutes before closing time. It definitely gives me the "I'm preggers and have a late night ice cream craving so don't judge" look. It also gives me an excuse to pair up untraditional flavors since, uh, I'm pregnant and have, uh, odd cravings - duh! Two cones: Olive oil and Ultimate chocolate, Crema and Mango twist. Thanks to my ultra sensitive pregnant taste buds, I realized that the olive oil ice cream is good for one or two bites, then it just tastes like I'm drinking olive oil, but in a cream form (does that make sense?!). The chocolate is a classic! The crema is definitely a popular choice - almost like house wine (wish I could drink wine, but I'm pregnant, remember?). But pair it with mango twist (mango sherbert twisted in real vanilla ice cream) and you have a creamy blend of sweet and sour! Was it worth the $14 tab at the end? Maybe not. Actually, I think the staff at Crema should be paying ME 14 bucks for the show I put on for them! Next time, I promise I won't go in to labor... cause then you'll really owe me big time.

Crema Cafe stole my attention when I heard about their amazing sorbet and ice cream flavors. As you walk into Crema Cafe, your left in suspense and then, Voila! you walk into charmingly cozy cafe with beautiful decor. I've been here quite a few times this summer but have only enjoyed their ice cream and sorbet, not their food, yet. I still have yet to find a flavor that disappoints.

When I can find a place with an interesting flavor of sorbet, I get pretty happy. When I can find a few flavors, so I have some options, even better. EIGHT flavors of sorbet though? Blood orange, raspberry pinot noir, strawberry basil... Woohoo! Thanks, Crema. I am going to have to come in and try brunch now too. Looks equally yummy and we all know how much I love brunch!

I just moved to the Uptown area of Minneapolis a few days ago and was immediately informed that Crema Café was just blocks away from where I now live. While in the midst of unpacking and cleaning my new apartment, I decided to take a break to get fresh air, and walked the six blocks to the café. The staff was incredibly enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable, so it really felt like walking into a neighborhood ice cream parlor and not the monochromatic restaurant chain clones I've come to expect in well-trafficked areas. The ice cream is indeed beyond belief. According to friends, the menu changes frequently, with new flavors being added all the time. There was not a dud among the samples I tried, finally settling on the merlot sorbet, which I enjoyed out in the piazza gardens, making my outing feel not like a trip down the street but to a street café in Italy.

An ice cream place 2 blocks away from my new abode? Hooray! Sadly, I don't think I will be frequenting Crema unless/until I find a job that pays more. $3.99 for one scoop of ice cream is rather steep, even if it is locally made and tastes good. That said, Crema Cafe is definitely cozy and the staff was nice.

As Minnesotans, we have to savor the fleetingly glorious days of summer with things that make them seem all the sweeter. Thank god then that there are a plethora of great ice cream and gelato places in Uptown. I happen to live only a block from Crema Cafe and they haven't disappointed yet. They have great ice cream that is creamy, melty and authentically homemade by Sonny's for over 75 years. The great thing about this place, besides the aforementioned iced cream, is that because of the location, it isn't ever really that busy. Every time I go in, there is maybe one person in front of me, which is perfect because I can then peruse their selection and make my choice (after a few samples of course!). And because they aren't as bustling as places like Sebastian Joe's, you never feel rushed. This makes the visit all the better. Well, that and the fact that the staff is very attentive. For instance, the latest flavor I sampled was the Authentic Spumoni, which - as the helpful staff person kindly pointed out - featured two kinds of actual rum ice cream plus chocolate and pistachio, all of which melded to form a beautifully decadent treat. The one negative about the place is the price ($4 for a single scoop, almost $7 for a double!). However, having said that, this is pretty much in line with every other ice cream place that I have come across in Uptown, so I only go to them when the weather is perfect and I can enjoy my ice cream that much more. Also, PRO TIP: get the sugar cone, but have them put it in the dish, that way, you get the cone without all the melty mess and it's the same price.

Yes the ice cream is tasty but unfortunately the selection was limited due to one of the compressors being out. I got a root beer float and it was wonderful. My other half got the chocolate amaretto ice cream. Light on the chocolate but heavy on the amaretto. I did try the signature crema. If you are sensitive to caffeine this would not be the flavor for you. But if you like coffee and cream it is really good. Service was fine. I would like to go back and try some of the other flavors.

On a perfect yet slightly humid summer evening, the patio at Crema allows you and your companions to travel to the Mediterranean for a bit while you lick gourmet Sonny's ice creams. If you are a sorbet lover, there will be many unique and fresh options awaiting you. Think cantelope lime, honeydew mint, strawberry basil and basalmic. All are delicious and fresh. If you are not a cone lover, like myself, order it in a biodegradable cup! They even have happy hours where you get 1/2 glasses of wine or beer with an order!

I have been to Crema Cafe on several occasions and have quickly found that this is one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities. During summer, the patio is unmatched. Try their daily home-made ice cream/sorbet flavors (of which, you can sample any and/or all.)

Crema's breakfast is excellent. It's usually pretty empty, even on Saturday or Sunday morning, but don't let that deter you. Their food prices are decent, but the ice cream is a little expensive for the tiny scoop you get. They have an awesome outdoor patio during the summer. The service is pretty laid back, yet friendly. Overall, a great place to go.

Crema Cafe... such a sweet place. The homemade ice cream is to die for - and a gluten-free eater can have most of it. The best part is, since it's homemade, they know exactly what's in each type. The coffee is kind of average, as a earlier reviewer said, but most people don't visit Crema for the coffee. The atmosphere is relaxing and the decor is kind of Mediterranean. They often have live music on the patio in warmer weather.

yum! delicious salads, great organic wine selection, fresh and local - the salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese is great. I think most people go there for just ice cream but check out their food, I do suggest calling ahead - some days they dont serve food and it is kind of confusing when they do. I just wish they did all the time!

We have eaten at Crema for both dinner and brunch and really enjoy their seasonal organic local approach. I had the buttermilk blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon and eggs and large OJ. Janna had the Sonny burger which is naturally raised beef and local pork which was cooked perfectly. The burger also came with a small side of greens. The night we went for dinner there was an excellent pasta special and we also ordered the Cheesy Sonny. I had one of the IPA's which was pretty good. We also tried the ice cream and enjoyed the seasonal selections. It's a bit pricey considering you have to go to the counter to order but that's a small inconvenience considering the high quality of the food and the service is friendly.

I'm convinced that what gives Crema an edge is its patio. It sweeps me back to Italy, even as it's a little bit over the top (but so can be Italia). I like the quiet enclosure and the narrow space. The food, I've found, is comforting and solid, a little over-priced, but worth it. Brunch is nice - the coffee here is very good. And Sunny's ice cream is delicious - try the green tea. In the warm months, Crema is a cute place for a date - you can split a bottle of wine and a couple of entrees and then share ice cream for dessert. They may even run a date night special. I don't know that it's worth the trip if the weather's ugly, but I envy those who call Crema their neighborhood place.

Cool little cafe on Lyndale with a green thumb and European appeal. I hope they survive the invasive road construction, because the ice cream is so delish. Admittedly not as high on my list as Sebastian J's or Izzy's. Like those places, the ice cream is made in-house in small batches. They also use only local, organic ingredients. Try the olive oil ice cream. Sounds gross. Tastes uh-mazing. Service could be friendlier.

Summer's a comin! If you have a date that is craving ice cream, Crema Cafe is the place for you. Crema makes their own ice cream in the building next door and often features flavors that are both tasty and a great conversation started. Ever have a lack of something to say - try convincing your date to try the garlic ice cream - it is a chance to be savvy and to see how daring she really is. Just be careful if she does. Insiders note: check the hours - nothing makes a date go sour faster than a closed ice cream shop.

One of those places that reminds me that this ain't the Minneapolis that I grew up in! But that's a good thing! This ice cream shop and coffee house is a very cool place. I've been there about three times. Once I had green tea ice cream - awesome! The have a cozy, narrow court yard where you can sit, relax, chat and enjoy your ice cream. It's a Mediterranean style courtyard. That and their nice little boulevard garden are the reason for my comment about Minneapolis. A wonderful diversion on a hot summer's evening.

Lookin for a magical place to daydream the day away? This is it! Super Yummy gelato (olive oil is amazing!), great wine list, tea varieties that dreams are made of, cuter than life patio....it just rocks. I have spent several afternoons snuggled into a cozy booth gossiping with friends and a few melancholy evenings sipping wine on the patio. I just love it here. Only downside is that the hours are sort of weird, but its all good with me!

This place is soooo good! Sonny's Ice cream that comes in funky and delicious flavors, great desserts and good wine. We came in late so the wine was cheap, like three bucks a glass. We also had an awesome chocolate cake with the aforementioned ice cream on the side. Yum. A decently romantic atmosphere as well. Oh yeah and the staff is really friendly too.

Yaaaay, Crema! Great place to go to get out of the ordinary flavors -- green tea ice cream, red bean ice cream, red wine sorbet and so on -- and it's all very tasty.

Just your average ice cream shop, very small and not a lot of selections. Pricing was a little high for the amount of ice cream you get so that was a con. The ice cream itself was okay nothing special. Would I make this my go to ice cream spot, probably not. Neighborhood and parking was great!

Nothing really special about the Portobello Mushroom Paninis we had here. I know I could get the exact same sandwich at a Panera Bread. The ambiance is nice, but there needs to be more of a clear definition between the cafe area and the restaurant dining space. The ice cream is really really good though.

OMG! This place is amazing! The best gelato I've ever had! This would be a daily habit if I didn't live 2000 miles away! Enjoy!

It is a lovely place! I tried their homemade chai and French toast. The food is a little bit too milky for me. But in all, I like this place! People keeps coming in for ice cream or other snack. The service is warm and friendly! Worth to go and try!

Give me a double scoop!

would definitely recommend this place. I respect how ambitious they are in their selection of flavors - I tried 20+ of them and they are consistently good.

The ice cream was good but I asked the worker I asked for pistachio ice cream and she gave me honey and sunflower ice cream and then when I came back to tell her her mistake she completely denied it and the signs were swapped around and it was horrible

Small dish of ice cream 7.50. Wasn't that good either. You're paying for the atmosphere.

The options of sweet product are amazing!! So hard to choose just one! However, the prices are fairly high yet the quality is worth it! If I could go there everyday and not gain weight with an endless supply of funds I would! The service is also outstanding!

Great patio. Great service. Very good food. A great place all around.

  • Darrell G.

  • Gaurav G.

  • Melissa L.

Damn. Damn. Damn.

  • Joel M.

  • Maddy S.

  • Bryan T.

I have been to Crema Cafe on several occasions and have quickly found that this is one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities. During summer, the patio is unmatched. Try their daily home-made ice cream/sorbet flavors (of which, you can sample any and/or all.)

  • Valerie H.

I would like to go back and try some of the other flavors.

yum! delicious salads, great organic wine selection, fresh and local - the salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese is great.

Awesome atmosphere... little cafe. Average coffee. Out of this world ice cream. Hand made in the store. Didn't try the food, but the selection looked great. Would definitely go again. Neat little back patio with water-fountain.
