I love seeing all the Minnesotans out enjoying our early spring weather. The lakes in Minneapolis were packed with walkers, runners, bikers, and rollerbladers after work on Tuesday. My friends and I decided to start summer off right by grabbing a cone at Sebastian Joe's and sitting on the patio after our walk. Picking a flavor is always stressful for me--I've never made a poor choice, but they are all so darn amazing. The signature Raspberry Chocolate Chip and Pavarotti are good standbys. I sampled the Cinnamon Chocolate Pretzel (awesome, but high on cinnamon), but ended up going with the Salty Caramel. Wow! You can always count on Sebastian Joe's to have unique, home-made creations that will delight the tastebuds. I left feeling both sad that I no longer live in Linden Hills and walking distance of Seb Joe's and relieved for my waistline that it isn't in such close proximity.

My favorite ice cream shop! Pavarotti is my all time favorite ice cream flavor - although it seems people either love it or at worst, dislike it. :) The staff are amicable and easy on the samples. The patio, enclosed in winter, is fantastic and welcoming with twinkling lights strung between trees. This, combined with the thoughtfully provided drinking fountain and selection of free newspapers, one/company is inadvertently encouraged to linger long past what could otherwise be just a quick trip to get a delicious ice cream cone. Two thumbs up for Sebastian Joe's!

Great coffee and great ice cream! What more can you ask for? I've been here multiple times for the coffee but just recently for the ice cream and I'm already planning my next flavor. Can't wait :-) In regards to Todd M.'s review, I've only had the opportunity to deal with Monica once, and I thought the exact same thing. She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. She made me feel as though I wasn't wanted there. Besides that one time however I've always loved the experience. Keep it up :-)

A great neighborhood ice cream spot with great flavor and friendly service. They've got a nice patio to sit and enjoy the ice cream- I'm partial to Oreo.

I'm not a huge ice cream fan. It's usually my wife who drags me out for a cone, and I usually just have a few licks of hers. But not here. This is some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Some traditional, and some unique flavor combos. All of them I've tried have been great. And here, I get my own cone!

I'm a big mouth when I truly enjoy a product, service, etc. Therefore I feel just in voicing my utter repulsion with regard to Monica at the Linden Hills location. While I've recently had the privilege of being invited to hang my phoTODDgraphy at this location, and while I've been a regular Monday evening visitor of the Hennepin/Franklin store for years now... I have to say that the attitude and shockingly unpleasant attitude and service I've received from Monica (there 12 yrs per the owner) has left an entirely different flavor in my mouth. And it doesn't come from the ice cream coolers. I've heard this same sentiment regarding the cold and unfriendly demeanor of Monica from others as well. I will not return to this of their locations. Ever. And I will advise others to refrain as well. Wake up Michael. She's bad news.

Eh, I'm bummed that i have to do this. First off let me say how much i love Sebastian Joes Ice Cream. but i guess you should go to the original location. I was already confused when i walked into a large line of people ordering and there was a lot of shuffling and confusion because no one knew what they wanted... Why? Because unlike the original location they don't have the flavors posted on the boards for everyone in line to decide before the get to the counter. so your left looking over the heads of children shoving in front of you to quickly... too quickly pick a flavor. Then you need to cut in front of people in line to back track to get to the register. There was no flow to this place, and for how consistently busy it gets that was a huge no-no. The outside is nice with lots of seating and a small fountain, but the Ice cream flavors i chose in a hurry weren't up to snuff with my usual Sebastian Joe's experience. I hurriedly got Oreo (great quality lots of Oreo flavor but not original) and Banana, Caramel, Chocolate which was Way over the top Banana flavored, no caramel and a lot of chocolate bits, wasn't my style and i didn't finish it. So to pay $11 for ice cream for 2 people and sift through all this ... I'll take the drive to the original location

What else can be said about this delectable, locally produced creamy treat? As all the reviews attest, this place kicks ass. Only one complaint--this location doesn't have a ton of flavors (i know, sometimes it's quality not quantity, but let me be bratty)--so let's amp it up Linden Hill S.J.!

i've heard about it for years, and there it was right before my eyes... the holy grail of ice cream! it was a warm evening, and the ice cream beckoned to us even before dinner. we had considered doing a 'backward dinner' and having ice cream first, but didn't - but should have - and so should you! when we finally arrived, the line was out the door, but it didn't matter - i stood on the threshold of losing myself to one of the greatest foodie treats in minneapolis...sebastian joe's! the line moved quickly - almost too quickly for me to decide what i wanted. even though ice cream hates me (and, actually, i really don't like it all that well), i still found myself caught up in anticipation. i wanted my first time to be special... and pure...and as beautiful as the moment could be. as i caught glimpses of the buckets of creamy goodness, i was overwhelmed by the choices. being more of a chocolate lover, than and ice cream fan, i decided on a scoop of the nicollet avenue pot hole - a mix of deep chocolate, truffles, heath bits, and sea salt. my companion then took the ice cream and children to the patio, and i followed. it was pure magic! from the humongous brass turtles that sat in the corner (which make for awesome kiddo adventures, by the way - heck, i might of sat on one if given the opportunity!), to the strings of lights, and the sounds of the cascading waterfall in the background, it couldn't have been more perfect. i looked around and took in the moment with wonder. then, i took my first bite. but instead of finding myself with a mouth full of creamy, chocolate bliss, i found myself quickly chewing and swallowing an overwhelming mouthful of sweet and salty goo! it wasn't at all what i expected. it wasn't terrible mind you, and i'm even sure some of you will love it. i guess it was just more chocolaty, ice creamy goodness than i could handle. i tried again and again, and just couldn't ever manage to truly enjoy it. even so, the magic of the patio prevailed and the lure still remains, and i'm sure i will find myself standing in that line once again waiting to try yet another variety of legendary goodness. all was not lost, though. my counterpart enjoyed his treat (and i enjoyed the few bites i had), and his son certainly liked his chocolate cone. in fact, watching him eat it, and the very messy face that ensued, became one of the highlights of my evening! boy + chocolate-y, messy face = happiness me + watching messy faced boy = happiness girl + boy + ice cream + patio = date girl + girl + ice cream cones + walk around lake = tease boy + boy + ice cream = ??? mom + kids + ice cream + patio = brief sanity followed by lots of messy hands and faces! mom + dad + kids + patio = a 15 minute glorious date as kids devour ice cream and slobber all over the turtles!

I love this SJ location because of all the outdoor seating -- it's the perfect way to spend a summer night after a dinner out...or instead of dinner. I think their Oreo ice cream is the best cookies 'n cream I have ever tasted. I also really like their classic chocolate, chocolate peanut butter and Nicollet Pot Hole. Another surprising fave is their sorbets -- I had one that had mint leaves in it that was fantastic enough to not make me wish it was ice cream. The only disappointment I've ever had at SJ's was the chocolate yogurt...but lesson for myself, if you want the real thing, get the real full-fat ice cream real thing.

The ice cream here is fantastic. So many different flavors and many are combinations that you would have never thought of. Love this place! Small little location, parking is a bit difficult, and you do have to walk up to the counter and look around for flavors, which makes ordering a bit difficult when there are a lot of people, but the ice cream flavors make up for it.

  • Ryan P.

The ice cream is amazing. But we all know that don't we? There can be no doubt, if you like ice cream then this is the place for you. I prefer the Franklin location however. The Linden Hills location, as Nicole V. mentioned, generally is confusing for people making it sometimes chaotic, at least when it's busy. The employees also seem apathetic bordering on unhappy. However the giant turtle statue is cool, the Linden Hills neighborhood is lovely, and the ice cream is superb. For those things it gets a 4 star rating.

  • Ericka A.

This place is amazing. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I had a very hard time specialty ordering products from them. You know it's real ice cream because it will melt onto you in the summer within a matter of seconds. My absolute favorite ice cream from them is the Mint Oreo. They make it with spearmint and not peppermint.

It was a great little cozy place with very rich ice cream(I definitely suggest a small) and decent coffee. It would be nice to add more seating though since it was a little busy when we were there.

We had the raspberry chocolate chip ice cream and the rhubarb pie ice cream. Both were really good. In a super cute neighborhood, love the patio, the fireplace, and the fact that it's open late even on weekdays! We'll be back for more

I guess I've been to both the Uptown and Upton (Ave) Sebastian Joe's now, but Upton (Linden Hills) is the preferred location for me. Its solid menu of flavors (Chai and the Pavarotti are excellent options) and proximity to Lake Harriett make it a popular hangout, but for me, the spacious and quaint outdoor seating area with hanging lights along the trees is what will bring me back many nights this summer. For me, Izzy's is still the "Queen of Dairy" in the Twin Cities, but "King Sebastian Joe II" is not too far behind... I can't believe I just wrote that... I'll hit "Post" now...

Great little place with great tasting ice cream. As I parked my car at the top of the hill and began to walk down towards the entrance I quickly noticed this was not going to be the typical ice cream shop with picnic tables and soft serve ice cream. The outdoor patio looked amazing and so inviting on a summer evening. Small cafe style tables make it feel smaller and more personal. The selection can be a little sparse, but there seems to be something to satisfy all seekers. We decided to get a pint of the Pavarotti and take it with us to Lake Harriet. We both thought the ice cream was delicious. I am fairly certain the dogs liked it also because they kept trying to sneak their tongues in for a lick.

Fabulous ice cream. When we walked in I immediately wanted to try the Oreo ice cream, but it was cleaned out. So I opted to try the chocolate banana chip and boy was I ever glad I did. It didn't have that fake banana flavor like so many others do. Like it's made with some kinda banana flavored baby powder. Blech. This had the "we put actual bananas in our ice cream" kinda flavor. The chocolate wasn't too rich and the extra crunch of the chocolate chips gave it that extra push. If I'm ever back in the Twin Cities I will definitely make this place a priority.

Nicollet Pot Hole is absolutely the antidote to PMS. I definitely am willing to make the trek over to Mpls for 10 min of bliss during hell week, in fact, my whole family is glad to! It may work for other types of crabbiness too, you'll need to check that out for yourself. The last time I stopped here the line was out the door and onto the sidewalk but it still only took 5 min to get up to the counter. The kids working were friendly enough, esp considering the sheer number of people they were helping. If I had been working there instead of eating, I would have been taking off heads. It has a cute little outdoor seating area that had plenty of space, perfect for your kids to make their mess there instead of in the car.

Yup, great ice cream but I do agree with Sarah P. they don't have a lot of flavors. I usually lean towards chocolate and peanut butter flavors and there were none to be had that day. I settled for oreo flavor which turned out to be quite good. I do also love the patio and in the summer it is filled with plants and a bubbling fountain. This is a great summer spot to take a seat and enjoy some ice cream and fresh air.

I am really glad to live near Sebastian Joe's. The ice cream flavors and texture are great--served softer than most places, which I like--and the indoor/outdoor patios are great for soaking up the neighborhood. Praise aside, a few things bother me: 1. The cones. The homemade ones are fine, but the regular sugar cones have paper glued to them which *never* comes off completely. You end up eating paper and glue after shattering your cone in an effort to remove them. Also, they don't offer plain cones, which are cheap and have a long shelf life and hence would be an easy menu addition. 2. The cone packing, or lack thereof. The employees always perch the scoop delicately atop the cone so you must lick carefully or lose your scoop. The overall quantity of ice cream is fine, but I wish more of it were packed into the cone. 3. The attitude. The employees seem to resent your presence and stare listlessly as you order. Once I accidentally put my taster spoon into the (empty) tip jar instead of the trash, and the man helping me just glared and literally shook it in my face. Correcting me is fine, but why do it rudely? Although my comments here are negative that's because I agree with all the good stuff that's already been said. I prefer to email constructive criticism before whining on Yelp, but SJ's website has no contact info. :P

Way better than the franchised Ben & Jerry's option. The coffee oreo ice cream is my favorite but you have to order it. Addicting. My recommendation is that whatever flavor sounds the weirdest to you is the one you should try. Guarantee that you will be pleasantly surprised. Save your chocolate or vanilla order for the DQ and step out. My son and I order the Oreo shake which has so much more Oreo than other places. Just be sure to tell them you want it thick. Some of the people will give you a watery version.

When we were kids, my sister was the athletic one and I was the one who repeatedly got a C- in gym class because I was scared of the ball and spent most of my time loitering near the wall with the other non-athletic girls, watching the boys who were trying to chase the ball and hide those pesky "gym shorts boners" at the same time. So when it became really popular for all the little girls to sign up for the summer softball leagues, it was no surprise that she was all gung-ho for it and I wrinkled my nose in disdain at the sign-up form. Even though I wasn't playing, I didn't relish the idea of being left home alone on game nights so I generally tagged along and sat in the cheering section. The added benefit of playing the role of encouraging, older sister was that after the game, the team and their families always went out for DQ afterwards. No self-respecting 13-year-old is going to turn down the opportunity for soft serve and DQ fries.... ...And that memory right there may be the only time in my life where hanging out in the ice cream shop after you've ordered the ice cream was equally as enjoyable as eating the ice cream itself. In most cases, it's been my experience that after you get the ice cream, you vacate the premises post haste and take the creamy treat elsewhere. Aaaaaand, then there was Sebastian Joe's. You come here for the ice cream (Steve U. is right, if you don't like it, you're *obviously* a terrorist) and stay because you can. I give the patio an A+

Who is Sebastian Joe? I'd like to talk to the guy, and thank him for some awesome ice cream. Maybe take him out to lunch. 'Cause, while the ice cream is outstanding at Joe's, the food is...in need of some help. Primarily a coffee and ice cream shop in Linden Hills, Sebastian Joe's does both coffee and sweets well. Their ice cream flavors are unique and decadent, as well as constantly changing - which makes each trip here a hoot. The coffee is decent, but nothing to write home about. The shop claims to roast their coffee fresh daily...though, no roaster is to be found in this shop. The food is their weakness. Baked goods are standard coffeeshop fare, without the pizazz of other local shops. Other food is prepackaged, and not worth the time or money. What Sebastian Joe's does offer that not many places do, is a place to come hang out with friends, family or just work by yourself. Their patio is spectacular, and their dining room has free wifi and a great vibe.

When I was 8 years old I went to my friend's cabin and his dad made us blueberry ice cream from scratch and for the past 28 years I have tried to find that ice cream experience again. Whenever I went to an ice cream shop (you know, a real, homemade-type place) I would look for that "Blueberry" sign to see if it is served (if they don't serve blueberry I start to think that maybe the place isn't ballsy enough to just make honest ice cream.) In my search I have found that: 1.) Blueberry isn't apparently the most popular fruit to make into ice cream and 2) If I did find blueberry, nobody knows how to make it as good as my buddies dad. Sure, I have found good/great ice cream. Some have far-out options (birthday cake is now an ice cream) or new twists on old ideas (that "heath-bar butter banana crunch" crowd) but it has never been the same, until. . . Sebastian Joes. Little ole Sebastian Joes. Less than a mile from where I grew up (but back then Baskin Robbins was closer to my parents house and therefore the neighborhood haunt). When I walked in I spotted that "Blueberry" sign early on. I thought "Well, someone at Sebastian Joes thinks they can make a blueberry ice cream. I accept your challange, sir." As soon as my single single scoop on a sugar cone (waffle cones are for frauds) was passed my way, it was over. I had found it. And so to you Sebastian Joes in Linden Hills I say "thank you"; you have earned my eternal gratitude for brining me back to when I was 8 via a perfect ice cream cone.

This is a pretty cool spot. This used to be my regular morning coffee joint in Uptown when I lived on Emerson Avenue. I've gone on a couple of dates here in the evenings, but nothing ever panned out - I blame them because it couldn't possible be a comment on my natural suaveness. No, in reality this place has pretty good coffee drinks and good ice cream.

This is definitely a place you should go to. It is small and has a great atmosphere and has a outdoor seating area where on a good night you may here some live music. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a ice cream shop in Minneapolis.

I had the roasted garlic almond chip about a week and a half ago andd can confidently say that it was the most unique and most delicious ice cream I have ever had. I was slightly disappointed wfhtn I went back the following weekend and to find out that it is a very rare flavor...but pleasantly surprised when I found out that if course it was not their only delicious ice cream! The grand mariner and orange basil sorbet did not disappoint either! The second time I went was an earlier Sunday evening and was not as busy, but the first time was on a busy Saturday night and the lines were kind of crazy since they hadn't done a great job of directing traffic. That really would be my only complaint!

Its all about the Ice Cream isnt it?.. yeah, you might be swarmed by extremely sticky 3-10 year olds and instep wielding mothers, but if this scenario surprises you on a summer weekend afternoon, well you just might be dense. But not as dense as Sebastian Joe's Ice cream!! ha. There are a few singular occurrences that happen via SJ, my favorite is the Passionfruit Ice Cream. hands down the best ice cream ever... ever. tart enough to make you pucker a little, but creamy enough to smooth it all out. Other unparalleled flavors; key lime and lime daquiri sorbet, cinnamon ice cream, nicollet ave pot hole, and for all you Surly fanatics.. Surly Bender Ice cream. Staff is for the most part really great, apparently Eastern Europeans have the most suitable wrists for scooping copious amounts of ice cream. The occasional high school summer jobber is the weak link here.. and by here i mean every where. Maybe some counter time at Sebastain Joes is just what they needed to turn it around,.. put down that phone and gets to scoopin!

A few weeks back, my boyfriend and I decided to go on an adventure. AKA: We just started driving around the city - seeing new places and things and enjoying the sunny day. During our escapade throughout the city - mostly Minneapolis - I decided that is was a perfect sunny afternoon to sit outside and eat some declicious ice cream. Now, being from the other side of the river - I am not as familiar with all of the Mpls neighborhoods. He showed me around a lot of places I honestly had never been in my 26+ years of living in the Twin Cities. Among our travels, he took me to Sebastian Joe's for a waffle cone of mouth watering ice cream! Yum - I'm hungry just thinking about it! We went inside and I knew what I wanted right away. A chocolate dipped waffle cone with choc chip raspberry ice cream. Nothing better. I honestly can't remember what kind of ice cream my other half got but I know he enjoyed it as well. After we were rung up by the friendly staff, we sat outside in the sun at a table and enjoyed our afternoon of adventure, concluded by our cones of goodness. There is nothing better. I encourage all of you to take an afternoon - jump in your car and just start driving. You can't believe all you will discover that you never knew exsisted in your own backyard.

That vanilla malt is the best tasting icecream I've ever had...hands down. They didn't have to be so exact with the scoops (heap it on and pack that cup!), but I didn't mind in the end.

I was visiting Minneapolis for the first time last weekend and our friends took us to Sebastian Joe's, and I made them take me back again the next day. The great thing about this place is that their flavors are really creative and really delicious. I sampled several and stuck with the special, which was the 'Kare 11 Sunrise': lemon ice cream with pieces of candied lemon and golden oreos. Just the right amount of all the filings. The honey-cinnamon crisp was awesome, too, and tasted a lot like a snickerdoodle. The chocolate-dipped cones are a great touch, too, but the ice cream can definitely stand alone if you order a cup. Both locations have outdoor seating, but the seating area at this locale is particularly pleasant.

I used to enjoy the ice cream here. I had not been to this location in a while and was extremely disappointed in the sorbet served. My husband's ice cream not very good either. The sorbet was grainy, had other types of ice cream in it from the scoop ( I assume). It is such a nice location with a great outside seating area. So sad. I hope the manangement can improve the quality or it may not last.

So delicious. I was eyeing the pistachio, but I chickened out at the end for the thought of having to run on the treadmill to burn off the calories was too much for me at the time so I got the blueberry frozen yogurt. Which is not to say that the next time I come back I won't get the sundae. But the frozen yogurt exceeded my expectations of frozen yogurt. It was tart and sweet and had real blueberries. Soooooooo gooood.

This place was awesome! We had never been, one of the ladies was kind enough to recommend some flavors to us and was just overall very kind. We were so happy with our visit and will bring our friends back! I hear it's busy in the summer...doesn't surprise me! :)

  • Brittanie M.

Really unique flavours and concoctions. They were out of the banana ice cream I initially ordered in my sundae but had their Pavarotti flavour (caramel, bananas, and chocolate chips) which was an even better choice. The home-made ice cream was fantastic without the ice chunks or frozen fat chunks you get in a lot of home-made ice creams. I also got a cold brewed coffee and that was good too. They staff was pretty quick despite being swamped and there was still a good amount of baked goods and ice cream flavours despite the late hour on a nice, warm day.

  • Lia K.

Wonderful icecream. I am not often the kind of person that orders the same thing every time I go somewhere, but Sebastian Joe's is an exception for me. I can never order anything but the Raspberry Chocolate Chip. It is just too good. And actually I am the kind of person that hates mixing fruit and chocolate, but somehow they have achieved the perfect balance, and it is just so refreshing and full of berry goodness while also satisfying my chocolate craving.

    (5)
  • Katie M.

It's like, every time I go to Sebastian Joe's I think to myself, "Maybe I'll try something other than Pavarotti". I never do. Maybe it's because eating that banana ice cream with caramel and chocolate chips makes me feel like I could sing like Pavarotti himself. With so many flavors to try, you'll need to ask for samples - or three. My other favorite is Nicollet Pothole, which apparently won Best Ice Cream Flavor in 2011: citypages.com/bestof/201… . They have classics like Raspberry Chocolate Chip and Oreo, but also feature unique flavor combos like Basil Vanilla or Loco Coco (chocolate, cayenne, and strawberry). It doesn't matter if it is winter or summer, it's always time for ice cream.

For years we have enjoyed SJ ice cream. The cookies are also great. The location is busy but service is fast. The prices have not changed much in over twenty years. We usually get a quart or a couple pints to go for later. Enjoy!

OK, I don't even like Ice Cream but this is now near the top of my list to take out-of-towners when showing them some of the great places in the city to visit, all because of caramel with sea salt ice cream. Really this place is fantastic. The Ice Cream is made fresh daily and it shows. the service is very good and even on a hot summers day when the lines are long they flow quickly. They do have other snacky items but why would you bother! I have tried other flavors and have yet to be disappointed but the Caramel with Sea Salt really blew me away! This is something that makes the taste-buds stand up and take notice. Now I know they didn't invent this flavor but in my opinion they perfected it! Winter or summer, rain or shine this place makes me melt! KT

What the eff. I knew there was another Sebastian Joe's, but I did not know it was this cute. Somehow in all my trips to Linden Hills, this shop and it's patio (arguably the best in Minneapolis) had escaped me. But no more. You can find all your Sebastian Joe's faves here. In Wonka's words, "The Oreo tastes like Oreo!... the Nicollet Pothole tastes like Nicollet Pothole!" (Well, like, not an actual pothole... but you know). I, of course, got Oreo. Order up and then enjoy your scoops from the gorgeous garden patio or the open-air bungalow/chalet-type place with garage doors that open up to the elements. I imagine it's cozy in there with the fireplace even during wintertime. There's a free parking lot to the left of the building too, which is much-appreciated. The flow of the line could be improved here since it winds around to sort of block a door to the patio. And my guess is that people wait in lines here often, from the looks of the crowd at noon. It was a clear neighborhood destination even in the middle of the day, as any top-notch ice cream parlor should be.

after 5-6 visits, i feel strongly that this place is just OK, at best. the line is always long & the coffee is very sub-par, despite the plethora of options on the menu. they offer rice milk, but not soy or almond, which seems strange. if you get a cone expect the paper to stick to it so that you'll have a messy situation at best or a snack you need to toss in the trash at worst. the stars i award are for the flavor design as they are ever-changing & unique. i would like to see additional savory flavors that incorporate sea salt, fresh herbs or alcohol. also listing the flavors somewhere where the line of patrons could SEE would be helpful to aid with the decision making process. there is just no flow to the line, it's cramped, stressful & impossible to see the options until you're up & it's time to decide on one. going here is almost a tease, as it reminds me of my fave LA ice cream shop, but it doesn't deliver when it comes to the friendliness/efficiency of service or the quality of product.

I adore this place and maybe their ice cream a little more. They are open early AND late, so they can accompany you anytime you're having a little ice cream (or coffee) craving. I will agree will some of my fellow yelpers that some of the employees seem a little bit unwelcoming. However, my last experience there was delightful! The young ice cream assistant let my party take numerous samples, and laughed along with Lila C.'s jokes. Their patio is amazingly large, & welcoming. A stroll around Lake Harriet, then an ice cream treat at Sebastian Joe's on their patio? Sounds utterly perfect. My favorite flavor as of recent is Cinnamon. IT'S PHENOMENAL, if you're a cinnamon lover, like me. Raspberry Chocolate Chip is another winner, but you really can't go wrong with anything at this cozy spot!

One of the best ice cream place I have ever been to. They have a large choice of flavors, although my all time favorite is the Oreo one. This is perfect for sunny days and outings with family or friends.

Open later than other ice cream places on the weekend. Nice outdoor seating area/courtyard as well as covered patio which is useable into autumn months. Flavors don't change often and there are not quite as many varieties as some chain ice cream joints.

I have lived in this neighborhood for several months, but due to the cold nature of winter (ah, duh!), and my lack of enjoying cold textured things during cold months, I did not partake in Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream. WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING?!?! The ice cream is glorious. I had the Bailey's Ice Cream as it was near St. Patrick's Day, and come on. Bailey's. Ice Cream. 'nough said. The patio is super cute and there were a couple of local musicians playing outside. The staff is super friendly and very helpful (and generous with their samples). The only downside? The prices are a bit high for my liking. That being said, I think I found my new ice cream treat spot.

I love Ice Cream. I can eat a lot it. Its one of those things that bring me joy and fills my day with unicorn and rainbows and happiness. And so Joe's Ice Cream gave me those butterflies and smiles....but..when they handed me my joy in a cup and rang me up....my eyes widened. Drama aside...this place is great. Its so cute and decorative and people are so nice...and the Ice Cream is awesome, but my cousin and I ordered one scoop in a cup each....and it was almost 7 dollars. Sadly the scoops were very tiny too. Cute place. Perfect Ice Cream. But Very expensive. I probably wont go here again. Maybe only to check out the cute decor.

Whether it's here or the one on Hennepin/Franklin, S. Joe's is still the best ice cream in MN for me. I love the outdoor seating, except for the occasional roar of an airplane overhead. It was wonderful coming here on a Saturday night after watching a free concert at the bandshell, and hobnobbing with the rest of the lovely strollers and neighbors as we waited patiently in line for our ice cream. As always, I dug the flavors they have. I've actually never had their oreo ice cream, because every time I'm about to order it I always find some new, limited time flavors, like the amazing coconut cream pie that had real bits of crust, or the bailey's which tasted very much like the mix. Ice cream on a warm summer night after getting my cultural experience on; what could be more fun?

Me no likey ice cream all dat mush but, ME LIKEY SABASTIAN JOES! Makes me totally ignore my mild-to-semi mild lactose issues. Boo-hoo Don't worry about the line. It moves quick. The flavors are always spanning the 5 dimensions. The staff is always friendly. The atmosphere always reminds me of being a kid. The place is just magic! Hint - Big Bills Blueberries is MUY DELICIOSO!! Get a different flavor of ice cream to jazz it up. A perfect place to bring your date at the end of the night. Trust me on this one - Ladies love ice cream! What a nice little patio too. It would truly make the "best patio" in the cities if this was a bar. Be there or be square. It's up to you really, cause it ain't no skin off my nose.

I have been going to the Franklin and Hennepin location of Sebastian Joe's for more than 20yrs. It is fantastic. Great ice cream, quick service, solid coffee drinks and a wonderful sense of community. I recently went to the Linden Hills location with some friends on a Saturday night. The space is mischievious. At first I thought it was going to be very small and cramped, but was surprised by the addition and the wonderful courtyard. A half dozen of us easily found a table to enjoy our ice cream, which was far and away the most enjoyable part of our visit. The least enjoyable part of our visit was getting that ice cream. We stopped by at 0930 and it wasn't too busy - but it was just chaotic. The staff did a really poor job of controlling the line and directing people. The set up requires that you stand in line, get your ice cream, then double back through that line to get to the cash register to pay. It caused a lot of confusion, which was not helped by the fact that you also walked through this narrow space to get to the addition and the courtyard. After I got an employee's attention and ordered the SB classic Brr Bar, I had a really hard time paying for it! I moved over to the cash register and was blown off several times by some high school or college age employees with real attitude problems. They weren't just rude to me, but also rude to some very confused older women buying pints of ice cream. It was very annoying and offputting. I'm also glad I had a Brr Bar, as a cone would have half melted before I paid. The ice cream was its usual delicious self. The Mister's coffee was too hot and burnt, which has never happened at the Hennepin/Franklin location. But the real downer was the lack of organization and service up front. I'll stick to the original location - and skip the attitude in Linden Hills.

I've tried the Hennepin Ave location a few times and of course enjoyed the ice cream. (Not a hard thing to win me over with ice cream.) The ice cream at this location is very delicious but it goes down so fast because it is so soft (like the other location, I guess that's what happens when it's homemade). I had Spumoni and a honey ginger granola flavor. Both very yummy. I do like the set up of this location much more than the other location. It boasts both a solarium-like indoor patio as well as an L-shaped outdoor patio.

This is the cutest ice cream shop ever! I am not sure about parking, there is no lot, so you have to park on the street, but once inside it is absolutely amazing and magnificent. They have some seating right by the ice cream counter, but there is also outside seating and a big spacious room with garage like doors, which are open during the day. You sit, eat ice cream and look out at the most beautiful courtyard. The courtyard is very well designed, although it is not very big, it is the spot to be. They even have a little waterfall. Romantic too! I had the chocolate amaretto ice cream and it was delicious. Not too rich, not too sweet, but totally hit the spot. They had about 12-14 flavors. They also make Sundays and rudiculos Sundays. Its a little pricey, but yummy. The service was friendly and the bathroom was clean!! Im in love!

On an absolutely perfect autumn afternoon, there is no better place to relax than Sebastian Joes. One delightfully thick chocolaty malt, sipped outside under the trees, with kids giggling as they scampered about. Pure magic!

Ice Cream was so good. The waffle cone on the other hand was not that great. I will definitely do dish next time. And the girl working was not friendly at all. She didn't smile once. Apparently she is too cool to be serving people ice cream. But I will still be back. It takes some supremely bad service for me to not return to a place with great edibles.

That's what I'm talking about!! I've had their ice cream at different eating establishments but never at their retail location. Well worth the stop if your in the area, even if your not in the area it's worth the trip. My new favorite ice cream is salted Carmel and they really do it right here. They had a list of about a dozen creamy concoctions of culinary creativity to chose from. I'll be back!

You really can't knock off a star for lines that go out the door as the warm and weary await the delights of this places ice cream treats. Nor can you knock off a star when they run out of Spumoni; I love the Spumoni here. Too bad for me it popular. Actually, I love just about every flavor here. And the staff is really cool about me taking my time to eventually decide what flavor I want to have. Sorry if it was you waiting behind me.

Minneapolitans, if I'm not mistaken Seb Joe's gives you a discount when it's cold. That discount only gets better as the temperatures drop. From what I've heard about the weather as of late you ought to get in and get some ice cream while the getting is good. I recommend Pavarotti or Raspberry Chocolate Chip in a decadent and homemade chocolate dipped waffle cone.

Out on a date around the lake? Need ice cream? No fear! Sebatian Joe's is a great spot to stop in and grab a cone. Nestled in Linden Hills - Sebastian Joe's always has a great scoop waiting.

raspberry chocolate chip = sooo good. this ice cream was amazing, the actual ice cream was raspberry flavor, not vanilla with a raspberry swirl or something like that, and the chocolate pieces in it were delectable, a rush of raspberry chocolatey goodness in every lick.

this place is pretty standard. not nearly the same quality as sweet science. and between them, sonny's, and Izzy's, sebastian joe's impressed me the least.

In my opinion, Sebastian Joes has the best ice cream in Minneapolis. It's rich and creamy, with many wonderful flavors to choose from. My favorites are: malted vanilla, oreo, salted caramel, and Nicolet pothole. Worth standing on line for.

Really cute store and great patio, just a block or two off Lake Harriet. The ice cream flavors were fun - tried the coffee chocolate chip flavor. Ice cream was just average - they charged $4ish for a small cone with one little scoop.

Genuinely THE best ice in the Twin Cities. Dare I say even better than Izzys. Plus, during those hot summer months this Sebastian Joe's location has the shortest line in comparison. Trust me, I drove around on many nights looking for the shortest line... and this was takes the pick! Plus they have a sweet patio!

I never thought I would become obsessed with ice cream, but it happened. Sebastian Joe's was awesome!! Everyone that worked there was extremely friendly and gave us the rundown of all the different favors. I got the Pavarotti ice cream, which is banana flavored with chocolate chips. It was amazing. I can't wait to go back to try all of the other favors.

Big line, little pricey, hard to get a park, but it's because it's SO GOOD. Raspberry choc chip, be-still my heart. Grab a cone and walk around the lake for a perfect summer evening.

Do you like ice cream and lakes? Since you live in and/or are visiting Minneapolis, I'm going to assume you do, so Sebastian Joe's should definitely be on your list of quintessential Minneapolis stops. While Izzy's is more modern, Joe's is your classic, neighborhood parlour. It's comfortable. It's nostalgic. It feels like you've been transported to a small town when you step inside (seems to be a theme in the Linden Hills area). Best of all, you're only a few blocks from Lake Harriet, so you can enjoy your cone while you walk around one of the most scenic areas of Minneapolis. I heartily recommend the oreo and raspberry chocolate chip. The oreo, in particular, is the best version of cookies and cream I've ever laid my tongue on. The ice cream here is heavier and more creamy than other options in the TC, which I like. It has that old-school, hand churned charm that you can't really find at any of the other ice cream options in town (no knock on those, as they do what they do very well). If you're looking for dessert on a beautiful day after brunch or dinner at Tilia, Zumbro, or Harriet Brasserie, or you're picnicking at the lake with Clancey's, Sebastian Joe's has you covered. It's as close to what Minnesota summer would taste like if it, you know, had a taste.

This is such a charming little ice cream shop in Linden Hills. A nice treat after a visit to the Linden Hills festival. We sat outside just before it started raining. Nice that there are both options for seating. Friendly staff offering samples. Good ice cream. Out of all the ice cream shops; this one is my favorite. Oreo ice cream waffle cone was loved by all of us. Will swing back to try the ice. Ream cookie sandwiches I was admiring the other customers eating. Had I seen those, I would have gone with one of those.

Very cute ice cream joint! The location is fantastic! The line was out the door but it moved pretty swiftly. There was a decent selection of ice cream flavors - I chose the chocolate malted vanilla with a sugar come. The sugar cone was a Joy brand and was nothing homemade or fancy, preferably I wish they had found cake cones. Pricing was a little high so that's why I am giving 3 stars along with the moderate choice of flavors. Will be back if in the area and we loved the space for seating not to mention how super dog friendly this place is!

Chocolate dipped cones are my new fave! And so is chocolate ice cream with sea salt and heath. It's a good thing I live several, several miles away otherwise I'd be tempted to return. Often. The samples I scarfed were rich and creamy, and I could appreciate the inventive flavor combinations. It's also nice to see espresso at an ice cream joint! My only beef... the mint chip or After Dinner Mint as they call it sort of tasted like mouthwash. Ordinarily my favorite flavor when it comes to icy dessert, I decided to pass.

I normally fancy the location on Hennepin but thought I should visit this place since it so much closer to home. Ice cream is still always spot on for Sebastian's and I love how this location has outdoor patio seating, making it more likely for people to come back during the summer sun days. Today's flavored consisted of green tea, rum raisin, mojito serbert, ginger, Black Forest, salted caramel, and more. I definitely gravitated towards the ginger ice cream, and boy, was it good. It had the right amount of spice and had a nice caramel-y sweetness coming from, what appeared to be candied ginger?. Overall, I was happy with my selection; my partner in crime however was not. He order the salted caramel ice cream, without tasting it first, and realized he picked the wrong kind. If you like adversely sweet things (who doesn't if you love desserts) this one is for you. It wasn't bad (we ended up switching because he couldn't tolerate it, I blame the "delicate" palate aspect...shhhh-let's let that be our secret yelpers). I didn't mind it but I agree it was hard to finish after a few spoonfuls. Maybe if you had it on a waffle cone that'd offset some of the glucose but I went with guilt and a heavy heart and got it in a cup instead. Overall, I love this joint. It allowed me to soak up the sun and eat a bunch of really good "bad for me" stuff and I don't regret it one bit. Lesson learn though, always taste before buying!!!

Yes...It's true! A line outside the door for ice cream. That may be enough to tell you there is nothing better than homemade ice cream from Sebastian Joe's. As you eye all the flavors through the showcase staff will give you as many samples as you want but sometimes that only makes my decision more difficult. This location is just a few blocks off Lake Harriet so my suggestion is to take a slight detour next time you're walking around the lake. Just head down Upton where you'll find Sebastian Joe's. Order up your scoop and you can sit down and enjoy it in their beautifully landscaped space and patio area. Don't forget to bring along your pooch though because they're always welcome too! I love this place and it truly never disappoints.

We were at Tilia and at least two people told us that we MUST try the ice cream at Sebastian Joe's! We went over straight away. They had a bunch of fun flavors as well as some good standbys. I had a hard time making a decision and the friendly employee offered to help me decide between three seductive flavors. He threw me a curve ball and recommended his personal favorite (not one of my three choices). I trusted him and got the peach. It was good, but I've experienced better. M wasn't impressed with her salted caramel and commented that the same flavor was better at The Kenwood. The semi-enclosed seating area was nice and bustling with activity. Friends and families were chatting and enjoying their frozen treats. It definitely felt like a neighborhood hot spot! I think I recall some nice landscaping right outside by the patio area. Perhaps a fountain or something.
