This experience is mainly about the server. In Minneapolis you have few ok choices for steak and this one out ranks many if you get a good server. Usually I visit with a friend of mine here- it's among his favorite places as he can get a great cut of steak here. I recommend getting the Ceaser Salad and Stuffed Chicken Breast- just be sure not to burn your mouth. The chicken is among the most amazing entries that you could ask for. I recommend requesting Chris or Zach for a server. For dessert I recommend the sherbet ask for a few slices of lemon in the cheese cloth and squeeze above the sherbet for an extra zing.

The food is good, the clubby atmosphere is quite fine, but the place is very expensive. Sorry, but NO steak is worth $75! If it wasn't so unnecessarily spendy, I would give it five stars. I just think it's over-priced. I ordered the lamb chops which I have to admit were the very best I have ever eaten. My wife had the sea bass, and my sons had the ribeye steaks. The fish was perfect, served on a bed of tabbouleh. The ribeyes were mostly fat, at least half was inedible. I ordered the Lyonnnaise potaoes -- the BEST side dish there. The place is wonderfully overstaffed. Our waiter knew the menu by heart and was *there* without hovering. There was free valet parking that night -- something I appreciated on a cold December evening. I am not an anti-chain snob; if the food is good and the service attentive, who cares? Saying that, you would be hard-pressed to find any evidence this place is a chain. I don't get a whiff of 'formula' here. Ruth's Chris is very elegant. If you have a lot of money, then go for it. (Ahem. Speaking of elegance, allow me to grouse for a minute about the shabby attire of the patrons that night. Downtown is sparkling, the restaurant is festooned in holiday garlands, the maître d' is in black tie... so why do half the patrons look like schlubs? Old Navy pullovers are comfortable, but grungy. If Grandma can squeeze her bunioned toes into a pair of high heels, you can at least wear something other than ragged Reeboks)

We had a wine event here - which was fantastic. The place smelled amazing, like sauteed mushrooms. The decor is a little 80's law firm, but the lighting is warm and romantic. Like Lina H said, they have an awesome 3 course meal - lots of bang for your buck. Love thier crabcakes!

The steaks are wet aged which matters. most steakhouses are dry-aged meat which had a certain tanginess to it and their steaks are all prime for the most part. I was very impressed with the ribeye cowboy style in particular. Highly recommend. The spinach side was just ok then again it was spinach. I didn't have dessert or salad but my buddies Caesar didn't look appealing. I ordered booze and steak and it was awesome. Sitting at the bar is a better experience too.

My family and I have been to this Ruth's Chris on several occasions, and had an awesome time. The food was perfect, the ambiance was fine and the service was awesome. However, our last visit on 12/23 we ran into a bump. The bump had to do with the service we received. In a service-based industry, we were aghast as to how we were treated. We requested a specific server on an online request (3 weeks ahead of the reservation) and were told the day we were to dine there that our server would not be available. When we asked the person making the reservation follow-up what might be the problem, she told us it was essentially our problem. Thus I sent an email to the GM. The GM did indeed return the email quite quickly, and also left a VM, so that was nice. The problem was the content. The GM, in a nutshell, told us it was our own fault, that we should have made another attempt to make sure the server (replace that with whatever request you might ask for) would be available. Having spent years in the service industry, I tried to make sure my email was as pleasant as possible, to include several compliments about out past trips to her store. But she made no reference, nor apology, simply that she would provide us "another great server" and that it was my own fault (paraphrased). This makes me very sad, as I will not return to this store to receive such poor service from the very top of the management of the store. She did stop by our table and did not look me once in the eye, did not offer her hand in a handshake, nothing that might indicate she was a proper business person looking to make sure she had happy clients. Lastly, the server we had was fine. We felt like she was reserved as she knew (she told us) that she was 'second string", which made us feel uncomfortable. For Christmas next year we will try Capital Grille or Manny's, and recall the great times we had at Ruth's Chris and start a new tradition!

Ruth's Chris lies somewhere between Murray's and Manny's. Manny's being my ultimate favorite and Murray's being, almost, an epic failure. RC has a good steak at big prices. If you're going to pay ~$50 for a steak, it should be a pretty amazing steak and I've just never been blown away by this place. Also, RC is a huge fan of butter. On everything. RC is like, the Paula Dean of the restaurant world.

I think this is the best steakhouse in town. Service is impeccable. The food is absolutely delicious and I have never been disappointed here. The atmosphere is great and its not too loud so you can actually enjoy your meal and hear the person's conversation that is sitting next to you. Ruth Chris is such a classy place for a great steak meal.

The best steak I have ever had. So good, yet so simple. USDA Prime Steak, butter, salt and pepper, cooked at 1,800 degrees and served on 500 degree plate . Pros: Awesome Steak, good soups, salads and desserts. Cons: A bit expensive, but they have a special where on Sundays you can get a New York Strip Steak and Frites for 19.99 and it's unbelievably good. TIP: Order your steak medium rare, the plate continues too cook it while you are eating.

I can't believe a place this chic doesn't have a dress code. I saw some guys at the bar in jeans, and they looked like pigs. I like to come on my birthday because you get a free bread pudding, and it's delicious. The cheesecake is good too. I've only ordered fillet mignon. I feel honored to live in the TC's that houses such a steak house.

Went for a wine tasting dinner. The wine pairings were mostly okay, the service was excellent, the food was also just okay. The salad was over-dressed, the soup course was a bit too salty (crab bisque--crab was great but they must have salted the soup before reducing it). Mushroom tart was bland and dry. Filet mignon cooked okay, but a boring cut of meat and they didn't do anything to help it. The spinach with bleu cheese had too much cheese and the sweet potato casserole was ridiculously sweet. The cream cheese brule was very good, but the cookie was way too sweet. This was my first time at Ruth's Chris and it was very unimpressive.

We went here for a holiday dinner. First the drinks are strong (ok maybe that is a 5 star moment) and the appetizers were pretty good. But I kept hearing all day about how wonderful the steaks at this place are. So I was waiting for my main course. The lobster bisque is probably were I should have stopped. The steak was ok. It seemed tasteless and under seasoned. Now I know good steak doesn't need seasoning because you can taste the meat but this was really bland. Dessert was ok definitely too big for one person. I don't think I would go out of my way to go here.

So I've been to Manny's, Morton's and Murray's....but never Ruth Chris! Why? I don't know because after the meal we had there this week, I am questioning that myself. Me, my regular dining partner and our two friends were out to celebrate a birthday. The birthday boy chose Ruth Chris. I'm game; it's his birthday. One of the reasons I haven't tried it is because the location doesn't really appeal to me. That was confirmed for me when we were escorted to what seemed like the very, very back of the "conference" room dining room where there was actually a projector attached to the ceiling for presentations....well, I dismissed it. We were in a celebratory mood anyway. I quickly forgot the "setting" issues and started enjoying the warm bread and soft butter...then the apps arrived. The seared Ahi tuna was incredible! I honestly have no idea what kind of sauce it was sitting on, but it was a lovely start to the meal. Then my medium-rare filet Mignon and lobster tail arrived...WOW!! Both were cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth like a warm pat of butter. We all cleaned our super-hot plates (honestly, don't touch them) and we were not overly full or uncomfortable. It was the perfect...GREAT FOOD; GREAT LAUGHS; GOOD FRIENDS....if you like steak, I highly recommend Ruth Chris. I am looking for the next good reason to go back!

My boyfriend and I went here on a strange $200 meal whim, in search of a great steak (mostly for me, as he doesn't crave red meat the same way I do). We called and got in 30 minutes later - which I'm not sure is a good sign of their large and accommodating restaurant space, or this terrible economy where few people are willing to frivolously drop that chunk of change on a meal. Having drank way too much the night before and spending the day sleeping, we were starving and decided to four-course it. We were promptly served great bread (though don't fill up on it) and our selection of wine, which I think was Vino Montes Syrah. We started with the barbecue shrimp (~$16), which was delicious but like most upscale dining, really only gave us a taste. At the waitress's suggestion, we split the Caesar salad, which was just so-so - nothing really extraordinary about it, but it was also the cheapest thing we ordered (~$8). I would also recommend splitting. The waitress suggested 1-2 sides, and thinking we were starving we went for 2, though we honestly could have basically gone with none. I hardly touched the mashed potatoes (average) or asparagus with bernaise (great). Obviously what you're here for is steak. I ordered the filet, medium rare, but definitely could have gone with the petite filet which was a few ounces less. The steak was cooked to perfection, served on a 500-degree plate with sizzling butter. The inside was red and warm; outside salty and slightly crispy. Boyfriend ordered the NY strip, which was also cooked excellently, just slightly chewier/denser than the creamy filet. Overall I give the steaks 5 stars and the rest of the meal 3-4 stars. Watch yo-self and don't fill up on bread. Also, the service was excellent and leisurely, making for a perfect date.

Not bad, service was outstanding, the good was pretty good. I did have the expectation that it was going to be phenomenal, but I was a little disappointed. For the price and reputation I expected a little more.

Service was great and the food was wonderful! The sweet potato cassarole is like dessert - it is amazing! Sides are great - they come out family style so you can try a few different options. Bread was warm and delicious! Ordered a special which included a salad or soup, option of main course, side and dessert, Awesome deal!

It takes a lot out of me to get a 5-star rating; I don't hand them out when I think a place simply is good (google 5-star syndrome). So, I went here last night with a friend that received a $100 gift card from a generous relative, and he wanted to take me out. I didn't preview their menu online, but I had an idea this place has an a-la-carte, pricey steakhouse-like menu. And they did, but there were a few safe-spots on the menu. What caught my eye right away was a stuffed chicken breast. Ok, I'll be honest: at a steakhouse, I usually repel ordering their top featured menu items (like the filet mignon, porterhouse, etc.) just because I can't justify spending that kind of money on a cut of beef, however amazing it would be. I also noticed they had a sort of 3 course meal selection that seemed worth it - 2 columns to pick the main entree from: $42.99 or $49.99 depending on your selection. I picked the steak house salad, 6oz filet w/ shrimp, garlic mash, and the dessert that came with it from the first column. Before we even noticed those 3-course (looks like 4, but the sides I don't really count as a separate course) ones, we had put in an order for lobster ravioli by recommendation of our server. And glad we did! The sauce on the ravioli was perfect to lop-up in our bread. One of their features at Ruth's Chris is their sizzling 500ºF plates that they server your main entree on. My 6oz filet was certainly sizzling when they brought it out; really continued to cook as it was sitting there at the table. Our booth was near the kitchen, so we could see food being delivered throughout the meal and felt like they were sizzling fajitas being served at a Mexican restaurant going by us. Anyway, my friend ordered the stuffed chicken and it had the same effect. Very hot to eat at first, but gave us time for the sides. Tonja, our server was so cool. She showed us things on the menu that most people wouldn't get at at steakhouse, sort of staff-favorites that are liked so much they refer to them in the back-of-the house as 'crack' - you GOTTA have it. Most of what we ordered from her was crack and it was no lie; I'm wanting to go back there now again, and I'd totally request her as our server. Some other little things to mention: - Our host offered a coat check for us. I declined as I was freezing, but my friend took advantage. - When we were sat, the host replaced my friend's white napkin with a black one as she noticed he was wearing black pants. I thought I was the only snob that ever noticed this, and have occasionally requested it, but never in the twin cities have I seen this thought of by the staff beforehand. Great touch! - Between courses, our silverware was replaced as it was used, and side plates as well. - My water glass was never empty, and I'm a stickler for that! - Tonja was very knowledgeable about the menu, so much that when my friend asked if it's ever questioned why 'corn-fed' beef is so prominent on the menu (when the recent trend seems to preference 'grass-fed beef'), she explained that Ruth's Chris as a brand gets their beef from only 2 stockhouses in the US that meet their standards. She even explained what the brand does internationally.

Expensive. Filling. Delicious. OMG the hashbrowns. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is amazing. It's the only restaurant that I walk out of in extreme pain. Every time. That's a good thing, by the way. I just can't not eat all of the food in front of me!! The hashbrowns are amazing. I was reading reviews of Oceanaire and noticed people raving about the hashbrowns. If you're one of those people, get the hashbrowns at Ruth's and tell me which is better. I can't believe that there's a better hashbrown out there, but I have yet to try Oceanaire's. Ruth's are perfectly crispy, not greasy and oh-so flavorful. I had my first whole lobster here. I was a little weary about breaking into a whole lobster for the first time when suddenly our waiter asked me if I wanted it with or without the shell. Whoa! Without, please! Yeah, they totally plopped a giant platter of steaming hot lobster, shell-free, in front of me and I thought I was going to pass out. That was a great way to enjoy my first whole lobster. I've also had and enjoyed the following: filet mignon, caesar salad, creme brulee, wedge salad, french onion soup, crab legs. I must note that I have never paid for my meal here. My mom takes me and she pays and I love her for it. LOVE HER. It's expensive. Worth it, though, if you have the dollars to drop on a fine, fine meal.

I went to Ruth's Chris last night and it was the best restaurant experience I have ever had. I had the filet and shrimp with their garlic mashed potatoes. My filet melted in my mouth. It was prepared exactly how I asked for it. The shrimp was perfect. The garlic mashed potatoes were amazing. I had their seafood gumbo to start with and it was fabulous. It was full of flavor. My boyfriend had the caesar salad to start and it was huge and delicious. For his main course he had the ribeye and it was prepared perfectly and it had amazing flavor. To follow we had cheese cake. The cheese cake was the best cheese cake I have ever had in my life! It was so light and tasty, topped with fresh berries. The food wasn't the only good part. The service was amazing. They were very knowledgeable and helpful in making suggestions. My water was never empty. Our server made our experience so fun. The restaurant has this upscale feeling with very professional service. Most customers were wearing business casual. The atmosphere is upscale but fun and relaxed at the same time.

Pros: It's steak! Cons: Nothing special; Not a fan of steak soaked in butter. I went here during restaurant week because while I loved a certain nearby steakhouse that starts with a M, I never took the short walk over to see what Ruth's Chris was all about. People raved to me about how great it was. It was okay. We went on a slow night so it seemed the wait staff were just drifting about. The dining area was very dim. The steak was served in butter, like other Midwest restaurants. I'm not sure what the appeal of gaining 10 pounds from a single visit was, but I tried it anyway. The butter makes the steak warmer but not tastier. Another poster here says it seems like the butter is there to mask the uninspired meat. For the price range of Ruth's Chris, I think you can do just as well or better at any other steakhouse. A disappointment indeed.

What are the 3 best words in fine dining? Other people's money ("OPM"). Ruth's Chris shares an office building with my former law firm, and I had the pleasure of entertaining many a client here. All paid for by my good friend OPM. OPM is a great dinner guest. OPM has great taste in wine, and always orders by the bottle. OPM always wants appetizers. OPM insists on desserts. Indeed, OPM insists on dessert drinks, like 30-year old port. And, lest you find OPM selfish and/or demanding, rest assured that OPM tips well. 20%, at least. This Ruth's Chris makes a martini with Grand Marnier in it that will make you find religion. OPM usually insisted I have two. All Ruth's Chrises across the country make a sweet potato casserole with a nut crust that will make you gain 8 pounds just by looking at it. All Ruth's Chrises serve an apple tart that could feed a Somali family for a week. Order it with extra extra ice cream. They'll charge you extra, but don't worry: uncle OPM is getting this one. I miss this Ruth's Chris. The one in SF is not half as good. And, while I look everywhere for him in the bar, and frequently have him paged, I just can't seem to find my dining companion anymore. Which makes the experience a lot less fun.

Over the past fifteen plus years Ruth Chris Steak House has been the place for memorable and important celebrations. Dinner with the love of my life, my brother's groomsmen before his wedding fourteen years ago, celebration of my nephew's acceptance into grad school and many more ocassions. I will always appreciate the special birthday dessert tray for my love. The food is always perfect. Watching my nephew and his college buddy each tackle the cowboy ribeye and still have room for a couple sides was fun. The room is large and the meal always feels private. The wait staff are professionals. For years I carried the card of the waiter "Gus" and requested him. I was saddend to hear he had passed away. So many great moments to be celebrated. Ruth Chris is one place to go to celebrate special moments. Parking is in the lot across the street or valet. Easy to find. Not much around this part of downtown Minneapolis. For the price, the food and experience are worth every penny.

I am more of a Manny's girl... Although they do cook a good piece of meat here! We were seated right by the entrance to where the servers were coming in and out with food. Somehow, my boyfriend and I have this weird luck of being seated in terrible spots. Every table was full and we made reservations, it wasn't like we could just ask to go be seated somewhere else. The decor was a little outdated, although it was a nice place to bring a date for a good meal. We both ordered Fillet Mignon's... We also had an order of fries and asparagus. It was tasty and came out hot! The price of the meal was not cheap, but you do get what you pay for... But if your a big steak eater, everyone has their own preference as to what they consider to be amazing.

I had high expectations for the money I spent. The service sucked. My waiter took my order and walked around me after that. I had to flag down the bus boy to get my drink refilled. The waiter finally showed up after the guy manning the bar walked around and asked if I needed anything. I could have gone to McDonalds and got better service. I can't believe I traveled from Charlotte, NC for service like this - horrible. I won't be dining at Ruth Chris ever again.

I went here for my first time earlier this month for my boyfriend's birthday. The employees were all very polite and friendly, which I would expect going here. It was a sweet touch that they sprinkled the cute confetti on the table, left a handwritten "Happy Birthday" card on the table, and brought out a little birthday dessert. Our server was such a sweet woman. She would engage in a little bit of chitchat but gave us our space to enjoy each others company and dinner. I'm usually not a big fan of steak but Ruth's Chris Steakhouse definitely changed that. I had the petite filet and shrimp which was awesome. I think of steak dinners as this huge feast, but I was not at all overwhelmed by the portions or presentation of the food on the sizzling hot plate. The steak literally melts in your mouth like butter. The shrimp and steak were perfect. They weren't doused in insane amounts of seasoning or herbs. You can't really explain the quality and taste until you try it. It does get a pricey after you go through a few glasses of wine, salad, appetizer, and entree but it's for an amazing meal. YUM! For such awesome food, I wasn't too impressed by the interior or atmosphere. The tables are so close together which made it feel like a chain restaurant or a cafeteria almost. At one point someone was trying to get by me and accidentally, gently, bumped the back of my head and chair - kind of annoying. I expected the atmosphere to be more spacious because this isn't the kind of meal where you run in and run out - you want to have a nice, intimate, sit-down meal. Seating aside...splurge a little and give Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Mpls a shot because I guarantee you'll fall in love!

got beef? I can never go wrong at Ruth Chris... came here on a Tuesday night for Andrew's birthday. There's no parking since its in downtown MPS but they do have free valet. the restaurant was promoting their typical deal - 3 course meal for 39.99/49.99 a person. I ordered the Cesar salad and the Parmesan chicken- i know I'm at a steak house, why chicken! - i like their chicken!! so sue me! I had a side of mash and stuffed crab mushrooms. their mushrooms are absolutely to die for- so juicy, so savory and just oh so good. Andrew had the 12 oz fillet Mignon. the food came out sizzling like usual- but did you know you can request for a hot plate after your plate become cool so that you can get the same hot and buttery taste like your first bite!? yup... our waiter was so cool that he asked us to go clubbing with him on the weekends- that's how nice Minnesotans are! they also sang andrew happy birthday lol and he blew his lil chocolate cake

Recently one of my employees won a customer service award and we attended an award luncheon at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Because this was a larger event we didn't have the full menu at our disposal, we instead were given just a few options. I choose a fillet and shrimp while she choose chicken. As for sides we had garlic roasted mashed potatoes, and broccoli au gratin both served family style, which was great because I could get a little more food since I couldn't really on the Super Lady Friend's leftovers. The steak was arguably one of the top 5 steaks I have ever had in my life. The plate it was served on was so amazingly hot it was practically glowing, I actually had to use my forks to move it around on the table. I couldn't get enough of the sides, but like I said before they were served family style, so I certainly got a little more than my fair share. My employee said that her chicken was also cooked and seasoned very well. Unfortunately I have no idea what it was and looking at their on line menu is of no help to me. For the price I am not sure I would have come here had it not been paid for by work, however the meal I had is certainly worth whatever they would have charged I am sure.

Steak steak steak, and more steak! I love it. This place was SUPER good. Usually when I have high expectations for a place I end up getting let down, not here though! Our server was really nice and I was super happy about that. Sometimes when you go to an expensive restaurant you get those servers who act like they're the shit. Had the blue crab cakes to start with and it was good but could use a little more flavor and less of that buttery texture. I got the filet and my boyfriend got some Kobe beef special. My steak was cooked perfectly. When the plate comes out its super hot and your steak is sizzling in front of you torturing you with the scent of butter. The filet had so much flavor I was in heaven. My boyfriend's steak was even better! It was the most flavorful and soft steak I've ever had. I'm already trying to think about the next time I can come back *cries* it's really on the pricey side!

I don't even eat red meat and I loved Ruth Chris! I went with friends for restaurant week this week and I was pleasantly surprised. We started with a few cocktails - I had the strawberry basil martini. The drinks were okay but probably not worth the $12 price tag. However, the friends we went with are really into their wine. They often bring their own bottle and pay the corkage fee. Ruth Chris happens to have one of the lowest corkage fees in Minneapolis - $15. My friends brought a bottle of wine that they bought on sale for around $50 - It was listed on the menu for $200 so it turned out to be a great deal. I highly recommend bringing your own wine! Now to the food. The restaurant week deal was a salad/soup, entree (petit fillet, salmon, or chicken), and a mini chocolate cheesecake. All of my friends went with the petit fillet and I went with the salmon. Both were great. The salmon was very simple served with lemon and the steaks came out sizzling on hot plates of butter - perfection. The mini chocolate cheesecake was a great end to the meal. We did get coffee with dessert but I would skip it next time. They are definitely not a coffee house as the coffee tasted old and acidic. Other than that the overall experience was great. I will warn you that being a steak house does bring along with it some pretension. If you can get past that and enjoy the food you will have a great time!

If you are going to drop serious coin on steak, direct yourself to Murrays, Manny's or the Capital Grill. Ruth's Chris is ok but certainly doesn't measure up to the high standards set by the top thee, to wit: Ambiance. Murrays is old school cool. Manny's has the new W vibe. Capital Grill is all new money show. Ruth's Chris is, well, a bit dowdy. The interior is dark and non-descript. Waitstaff wear huge nametags (distracting). The place was as cold as a meatlocker--AC blasting--so our group was happy to have brought their coats and wraps along. Food. I've never had a bad meal at the top three. Murrays, Mannys and the Cap Grill all seem to be able to add some zest and excitement to what is basically a big piece of tissue. My meal at Ruth's Chris wasn't bad, per se, it just lacked that zip. Maybe it was the fact that my steak arrived in a bath of butter. You can cover up a lot with butter. The lamb chops were certainly fine, but nowhere near as good as those at Heidi's, for example. The lobster was simply not good: undercooked and of questionable pedigree. Value. It's hard to argue the value proposition of a $$$$ meal of beef. I mean, there's the dollars expended, the carbon footprint of turning Bossy into one's meal, etc. Still, Murray's always has specials, Manny's meat and wine list are top drawer, and the service at the Cap Grill can't be beat. Ruth's Chris again falls a bit short. Everything is...fine....but doesn't seem to be worth the premium price. This is an issue of perception, certainly, and I don't perceive the value being here. So if this were the only game in town, it would rate a solid 3+ stars. Because of the high standards set by Murrays, Manny's and the Capital Grill, this restaurant finishes out of the money, in 4th place with 2 stars.

I went here for a group meeting and tried a bread starter, a house salad, filet and flourless chocolate cake. All courses were really fantastic! The bread was soft fresh and came with warm butter. The salad was fresh and had great dressing. They skimped a bit on crutons though. The filet was the main event and was also really great. They serve their steaks super hot on a super hot plate. The butter it's drenched in was sizzling on the plate as if it was on a fry pan. I've never seen anything like it. How do they get everything so hot, while keeping the steaks cooked as ordered? In any case, I had to try not to burn my mouth but this was great because the steak stayed warm throughout the whole meal. The filet was tender, juicy and large! It's a great steak. The steak was served with mashed potatoes that were pure heaven. They were fluffy, whipped to perfection and loaded with more butter. I was in heaven. Typically I groan whenever I see flourless chocolate cake on a menu. It's always dry and boring. Ruth Chris has totally mastered this cake. It was rich and moist. This cake was as moist as cheesecake and had a rich chocolate flavor with only a hint of coffee to make it more complex. It was incredible!! The service was great - very professional and attentive. The ambiance is ok. There are so many really trendy, unique and interestingly decorated restaurants in the area but Ruth's looks pretty standard and boring. It's not ugly decor but certainly isn't memorable.

Celebrated 22nd wedding anniversary here. Table was decorated and free dessert. Petite filet and shrimp was good. Shrimp was better than the steak. Steak lacked flavor. My wife order the salmon which was a very generous portion and very good. Free dessert was banana cream pie, by our choice and was the best part of the meal. If you go here, the banana cream pie is a must. Large side orders. Hash browns were sold to us by our waiter and were totally uneventful. $165 including tip and a couple of drinks. It was o.k. But it could have been better. Manny's next time.

We were very disappointed with our dinner and service tonight. The food was not even close to a steak house standards. The au gratin potatoes did taste like boxed meal. the stuffed mashrooms were very salty and reheated a couple of times. My husbands steak was nothing special, he could have got the same quality at outback steak house. We ordered the sauce and it was never brought to our table. We requested to have the food brought all at once and this was a simple request but it did not happened. We had to wait for our food a long time. Please go to other steak houses but not to Ruth Chris.

I love steak and have wanted to come to this place. Some friends and I took advantage of Restaurant Week and went here. The filet was the best and quite possibly the best steak that I have ever had! They bake them in some crazy 1000+ degree oven so that the outside browns and caramelizes and then serve your steak on a plate that's extremely hot and comes out sizzling so that your steak remains hot all the way through while you're eating it. The service was wonderful and old school like you would want out of a steak house of this caliber. Will most definitely be back when I am craving a carnivorous feast!

One of my favorite things: the bar area of fancy steakhouses. It's more laid back, you generally get less snooty service and still have the fantastic steakhouse food on the menu. And the Ruth's Chris bar did not disappoint. Calamari is the best I've had in the TC. Ahi Tuna is amazing. Potatoes - whether you get mashed, au gratin or hashbrowns (and yes we ordered all three) - are delish. The bread is a pile of goodness, the kind of stuff that I could never keep at my house because I'd gain ten pounds every week from overindulgence. And the desserts...FAB. Zach (and the rest of the bar staff) provided impeccable service. This girl might just have a new favorite steakhouse.

My wife and I visited Ruth's Chris last night for our anniversary. I thought the service was excellent and I appreciated that they gave us a free dessert (the excellent Chocolate Explosion) to celebrate the occasion. I have to rate Ruth's Chris against other, comparable steakhouses in the Twin Cities, particularly Manny's and Capital Grille. Ruth's Chris just doesn't measure up to its competition. The prices are similar, but the decor isn't as nice, the portions were smaller and the sides weren't as good. Also, I don't care much for Ruth's Chris broiling method of cooking steaks. My ribeye was cooked perfectly, but not having the grill marks and flavor made it feel like something was missing. I'd still rate Manny's the best steakhouse in the Twin Cities, with Capital Grille coming in second. If you're looking for a great steak, Ruth's Chris is OK but other places are better.

It was my first time in town and had read mixed reviews. one review stated they liked it more than Manny's. I decided to give it a try. Honestly, if you have experienced good steak and fine dining in the past, I would suggest: GO ELSEWHERE, (Manny's is a fantastic option by the way!) The food was very poor quality and it was pretty pricy. I travel around the US and am able to compare and know a nice meal. The meat was chewy, extremely greasy, the plate was messy, and the spinach and sides were flavorless. The waitress was nice but not once asked how our meal was. Sorry but not a good experience for me.

Had a wonderful dinner here. As always with Ruth's Chris anywhere, the service was stellar, the service was excellent (not too much, and not too little), and the food was all excellent. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were perfect. Always a great place for a special occasion kind of dinner.

I just love Ruth's Chris. Haven't been to one for a long time. I had told my boyfriend that it was the best steak I had ever had. (He is very discerning). So, when trying to decide where to go for restaurant week, I suggested Ruth's Chris. I hadn't been to this location, nor had he or his daughter. As expected, thus was the best filet I've had since the last time I ate at a Ruth's Chris. The steak house salad with Italian dressing was delicious as were the sides of mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and mushrooms. The filet was cooked perfectly. The salmon was a very generous portion and was delicious. If you are looking for a classic steakhouse with consistently good food, this is the place. I've eaten at the other places in town (except the other national "grille)" and this is better.

My buddy and I were here for a WebFOCUS presentation and lunch. The place is pretty large and they showed us into one of the meeting rooms that they open up for lunch. After getting my name tag, I sat down and quickly was offered a Diet Coke by one of our servers. (The servers were 10/10 here, just amazing) There were three options on the meeting menu, a stuffed chicken breast, some salmon, or a fillet Mignon. I ordered the fillet. It also came with a salad and mashed potatoes and asparagus, The salad came out first, duper fresh greens with accouterments like tomatoes and croutons. The balsamic dressing was the bomb. Super salad. The fillet came out sizzling from the butter on top and the boiling hot plate. It looked spectacular. I had never been to a top notch steak house for steak, and this looked like a hunk of perfectly shaped fillet Mignon. I ordered it medium, and every bite was unbelievable. Slice right through it and enjoy. So good! The asparagus was perfect, not to soft, not too hard. Just right. The mashed potatoes were full of butter, I am sure, but they were amazing! I had to get to work before the cheesecake came out, but I passed by them. They looked delish! Between the service, the food, and the plenty of refills of Diet Coke, this place was a solid 5 stars! Lots of laughs with a friend too. Awesome time!

Had my first visit yesterday for restaurant week and I will be back! The service was amazing from the host, bartender, server, etc. everyone was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is a classy romantic feel with the dim lighting. We had the restaurant week menu which included three courses starting with a salad, meal with side, and desert. You are started with warm bread and fluffy butter followed by a delicious salad- I chose the house made ranch and it was wonderful! Now to the good stuff, the meal! I ordered a 6oz filet which comes on an extremely hot plate with sizzling butter. I ordered medium well which was the perfect amount of pink in the center and all that was seasoned on this filet was salt and pepper- amazing it had top notch flavor! The side was mashed potatoes which were light, fluffy, and full of butter-perfection! The desert was a small cheesecake and chocolate truffle both delicious, but nothing beats that filet! :) I will make Ruth's Chris my regular steakhouse!

I love putting on shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals and heading out for a relaxing meal on the town. But sometimes there's nothing better than slipping on one of my fine Italian suits, buffing my shoes to a mirrored shine, and taking my wife out for a fine dinner. Steak was on our minds, and we thought we'd go high end and head to Ruth's Chris with a few friends. Complementary valet parking upon arriving is quite the bonus when heading to downtown Minneapolis. Walking into Ruth's Chris is rather stunning. Elegant dark woods and artwork that suited it's style. Every steakhouse I've ever walked into has its own special smell. Smoky. Grilled goodness. Char. Beefy. Garlic. But at Ruth's Chris the smell that hits you in the face is most definitely butter. Browned, nutty butter. More on that later. We were warmly greeted and promptly shown to our table. Our server, Dan, was very nice, very professional, and just plain knew his stuff. His knowledge of the wine list was impressive and he helped us pick out one of the better Cabs we've ever had. I love a good ribeye steak, and I'd been eyeing the cowboy (bone-in) ribeye for quite some time. My wife had the filet, the others at the table went another way and ordered the Swordfish and crab cakes. Basically everything here is a la carte. So if you want a salad, potato, or veg, you order them separate. I had the steakhouse salad with a homemade blue cheese dressing. Excellent. Worth ten bucks? No, not really. The sides are basically meant to be family style. Hash browned potatoes were the special and we all agreed they looked good on another table so we gave it a go. For a veg, Dan the server recommended the broccoli au gratin. Now, here's where I have some problems. In the words of the great Joey Tribbiani from Friends, JOEY DOESN'T SHARE FOOD. I hate anything remotely close to family style. The hash browns were good, but absolutely swimming in butter. Literally. $15. Didn't do it for me. The broccoli au gratin was just ok and a rather small portion. I could've eaten it by myself really. Now to the steak. Cowboy Ribeye. Medium rare. Cooked to perfection. All of their steaks come out on a 350 degree plate and sizzling. How do you think they get that sizzle? That's right, butter. Wicked hot drawn butter poured over a hot steak on a wicked hot plate equals sizzle. I think it's cheating really. I could pour hot butter over just about anything and make it decadent, juicy, savory, and have the mouth feel of a fine French foie gras. Don't get me wrong, I realize this is prime beef and the best quality there is. It was delicious. I picked up the bone and ate every last morsel of meat on it. I dipped it into the pool of butter on my plate and sucked it dry. All in all, it was a very good meal. But was it worth over $400? Hmmmm. I understand this is how a real steakhouse does it, but it felt contrived and fake. I've been to many different steakhouses and this was quite good, but next time I'd go elsewhere. And the last kicker, we all had to laugh as the smell of butter carried with us on our clothes throughout the rest of our night.

Steak houses are not the first place I normally choose to go out to eat, but since i've always heard good things about Ruth's Chris, I decided to check it out during Restaurant Week. The first plus was before I even stepped foot in the restaurant, when the restaurant called to confirm and left me a voicemail reminding me that they have complimentary valet. Since it is winter in Minnesota, the complimentary valet was a huge perk and luckily easy to find based on the directions in the phone message. We were seated quickly upon arrival, and given the regular menu in addition to the Restaurant Week menu. The Restaurant Week menu included: 1) choice of house or caesar salad 2) 6 oz filet mignon, chicken, or salmon 3) mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, or sautéed mushrooms 4) turtle cheesecake My group of 3 all decided to do the Restaurant week menu with the wine pairings. The wine pairings were 2 glasses of wine (1 white, 1 red) for either $12 or $20. Our meal started with warm bread and room-temperature butter. The bread was delicious, and it was hard to not eat all of it before the first course came. I ordered the steak house salad with ranch dressing. The salad was a large portion for being on the Restaurant Week menu, and the ranch dressing was delicious (and made in-house). My only compliant was that I asked for the dressing on the side, and it came already on top of the salad. I didn't say anything to my server, because after I tried the dressing it was so delicious i knew I'd want to eat it all anyways. For my entree, I ordered the filet mignon. The steak came out on a 500 degree plate with sizzling butter. It was so hot that I couldn't eat it for the first few minutes it was at the table, but the steak was still perfectly medium-rare. The steak was so tender and flavorful (yum... butter!), I now know why Ruth's Chris is famous for their steaks. For sides, my group decided to order one of each, so we all got to try the potatoes, spinach, and mushrooms. All were good, but my favorite was the spinach. I prefer lumpy, garlic mashed potatoes, and these potatoes were smooth, but I didn't have trouble finishing off my portion. For dessert, we each got a cupcake-sized turtle cheesecake with some chocolate bark. By the time we got to dessert, we were all so full that none of us could finish it, even though it was cheesecakey-chocolately goodness. My group all decided this was a 5/5 dining experience based on the food and the service. The Restaurant Week menu was a great deal, and made us fans of the restaurant. We will definitely be going back again soon.

Solid. Old school. Nothing beats a steak served on a sizzling plate. The main dining room feels less cavernous than at Manny's.

I usually try to avoid chain restaurants, but this one is worth hitting. We ended up stopping by for a quick bite before a show at Minnesota Orchestra Hall. This was my first time at Ruth's, as I'm a Manny's type of girl. That said, it was fantastic. Definitely worth the splurge. First, the ambience is typical of classic steakhouses - dark, quiet, romantic, and elegant. We were seated right away, and the staff were polite and friendly. Our server Jesse deserves a special shout-out. He was way too cool to be working in a fancy, stiff, old steakhouse with a bunch of old people and business men. He made our dinner pleasant - friendly, cool, but not overbearing. Shout out to him - we'd come back just for his service. (Give him a raise!) Second, the ciabatta bread. Yum. Had to control myself and limit to two pieces. Delic. My husband and I ended up getting two salads, a half-order of mashed potatoes, and sharing a waygu steak ($60)... and it was still WAY too much food! The salads were huge and filled us up before the steak got to us. The steak was delicious but a bit too buttery - not very healthy, but oh so worth it. I had to soak up the extra butter with the extra ciabatta bread. Cooked perfectly medium rare. The only BOO: While I LOVE booths, their booth seats are really tight and not very comfortable. I'm pretty small, and even I was squished against the table. Where's my big belly supposed to rest after my glutinous meal? Two thumbs up.

I went here with my husband for my birthday dinner. I wasn't really excited about his choice of a restaurant but decided to go with it based on comments here. I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything exceeded my expectations - the food, atmosphere and service. If you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner ask for a booth near the back. It's noisier in the center of the restaurant. All in all, a very nice evening. Better than Manny's in my opinion.

Excellent steak, service, and atmosphere. We were here on Christmas Eve, and although busy, the wait staff was attentive and helpful. Gena, the general manager, even remembered our names, even though we were last in Minnesota over a year ago! Carol was our wait person - well worth asking for when you make reservations. Very attentive. The wine list is good. One of our favorites is Pedestal, a Longshadows merlot. This is one of the few places that carries it. Overall, a great experience.

I'm updating my review from a 2 to a 3. The fact that I've been back several times after my initial visit is an indicator (to myself) that I obviously like it. The zucchini fries are so good; well seasoned, crispy and served with an aioli on the side. The burger is pretty good and filling. It comes with fries which I'm not a fan of...they remind of the fries from five guys. If you like those type of fries you're good, but if not try switching to sweet potato fries or the zucchini fries. I highly recommend the pomegranate martini. Not too sweet and not too tart; it's only $7 during HH so live a little and have a few. Do note that there's sugar on the rim of the glass, so if it's not your thing have them leave it off. I like that this HH is pretty much still unknown which therefore more means finding a seat (even if you have a large party) is easy.

I love to cook so when we do eat out the food must be truly wonderful. THIS Ruth Chris is one of the best in the country. Their head bartender, Zack, is so great that he travels globally to open and train restaurants from Saudi Arabia to Louisiana. Each restaurant is so very different largely because of the staff. Layout of floor plan is second. This Minneapolis location was beautifully planned -- sunny perfect sized intimate feeling bar area but large enough to accommodate larger visiting corporate groups waiting for their reservations. The dining room has a surprising intimate relaxing feel thanks to the design of elegant banquettes which provide great privacy for business meetings. The acoustics are very good and you are not overwhelmed with crowd noise . The bar staff is the VERY best set of people we have come across. They each truly love their job and it shows. After many years celebrating New Years at downtown Monte Carlo ( old staff now gone. Maybe a new chef....) we switched last year to Ruth Chris. We shared a monster Rib eye for Two. Each had our own elaborate delicious salads shared an ahi tuna appetizer ( very high consistent fresh non fishy tasting quality and as a Japanese American I would rate it one of the best served in the Twin Cities). We especially love their (quite rich but perfectly seasoned) side vegetable dishes -- potatoes are truly fabulous. The banana cream pie is to die for-- not too large a personal size portion with Fresh bananas. But my favorite is the molten chocolate cake -- I dream of eating this between visits. Perfect. And not too large. I used to love their bread pudding but with the new recipe of 2 years ago, I find it now too dry and not enough brandy sauce. If you want light, their Creme brûlée is smooth subtle perfect not too sweet. My favorite cocktail is the fresh blueberry mohito -- lots of crushed blueberries and not too sweet. I don't like strong alcohol tasting drinks. This is divine. The wine selection is also easy. And excellent. Smooth not sharp bitter or overly sweet. But the best is the heavenly aroma of sizzling steak cooked in butter and spices as they rush it to your table high atop their shoulders above everyone's head. Yum. Food to remember and excellent friendly warm staff -- rare today.

Ruth's Chris is quickly becoming my birthday spot. Last year we had an excellent experience at the Las Vegas location, so we decided to give Minneapolis a go around. What continues to impresses me most about Ruth's Chris is the service. The host warmly greeted us, offered to check our coats, and even sprinkled birthday confetti on our table after she discovered it was my 'special day.' Our server was very knowledgable without being pretentious and gave great suggestions without being pushy. My petite filet was wonderful, the sides were as expected (Burch has more exciting sides), and my surprise birthday dessert complete with a candle was a nice touch. Overall, it was a wonderful birthday date with my husband :)

I love steak. I love steak almost as much as I love my husband. Seriously, and I love him a lot! We ended up here with a group of 7 people during Restaurant Week. None of us ordered off of the Restaurant Week menu but it was nice to have the option. I've been to a few other Ruth's Chris in Maui and New York so I was familiar with their "we-cook-steaks-at ridiculously-high-temps-and-bring-it-to-you-really-hot" thing. I did forget how hot the plate was though- geesh! My favorite things about the most recent experience are (in order): 1. The valet. I love complimentary valet downtown particularly during our cold MN winters. 2. The caesar salad. Oh. My. Gosh. so good. Perfectly salty and a little more garlicky than I'm used to. It was fantastic. 3. The service. Attentive, thoughtful and there when we needed things. 4. The bread and butter. The bread was warm and the butter was room temperature. Some people I was with couldn't get enough! 5. Their mashed potatoes were surprisingly good! Not so good: 1. My meal. I ordered the filet oscar- medium. My steak was overdone which is tolerable since I am pregnant and apparently not supposed to eat raw meat. The crab cake, however, was cold midway through and I wasn't able to eat all of it. Kinda of disappointing but it didn't ruin our night by any means. Just not what I want when you're paying that much for dinner. 2. Calamari. I would skip it even it you're an optimist. It was also overdone and the Asian sauce just didn't do it for me. Our table of seven didn't even eat all of it. A couple of other good things were the coat check people- so kind. And the hostess. And the manager who stopped in at our table. In fact, everyone who worked there was great. The desserts are gigantic. Like the size of my face. And pretty good, too.

Very pricey, but well worth it. Everything was exquisite, from the service to the preparation of the meal. I went for an anniversary and the table was decorated and we received free desert. Very impressed with Ruth's Chris.

Great service! It's nice when the server actually knows the menu and can explain to you whats inside. We had their crab cakes for appetizers and those were really good. We then had steak and one thing to also know it that their sides are served family style. One order can probably feed about 2-3 people. We had Later for dessert we had the banana cream pie, which I would say is probably the best I've ever had.

I surprised my hubby with some reservations here for " date night". Him being the steak lover he was very excited to try Ruth's steak vs. His # 1 pick in Las Vegas!!! We started with the crab cakes which he thought were " fishy" but I enjoyed them. Our steak house salads were typical . My husband got the 16oz bone in ribeye and I got the Sea scallops. We also got the grean beans and creamed spinach as our sides. He liked his steak but it wasn't " the best ever" !!! My scallops were good but not amazing! The sides again were good but not outstanding!! I'm not sure if we will go back or not! We had a good meal but I'm not dying to try anything else on their menu.

Service was excellent. The workers all work together to serve you. They don't go, "ill go get your server for you". they are all well trained, professional, and friendly. Those plates are very very hot and I burnt my finger even tho they warned me to not touch. They even have these small packets of burn relief ointments. :) that was nice~ also, food was top notch.

We had dinner there last night. Everything was great except that there was a BRAYING ASS at the next table making more noise than a Viking touch down celebration. Everyone around them was annoyed and nothing was done about it. Totally ruined what could have been a great dinner

A sizzling hot butter filled plate with the perfectly cooked filet on top of it? Yes please!! It may be a chain, but they serve the best filet in the entire state and probably period. Plenty of humongous side dishes and great desserts make this a great place for upscale dining. Bring your friends or your sweetheart and you will not be disappointed.

Very friendly serving staff and the steak was amazing. I got a filet mignon, pretty sure you could have cut it with a spoon it was so tender. Really enjoyed the sizzleing butter plates they bring your steak out on to keep steak warm. We went there for our anniversary, so they brought out a slice of cheese cake to celebrate. Had a great time!

The. Food. Was. Amazing. We had reservations for 7:15 and we were seated about 15-20 min after that. It was restaurant week, so I wasn't surprised. (Although we weren't participating in the special deal) The lady who sat us, Suzy I think, was very nice and humorous. She got us off to a great start. I think Jeremy was the name of our server. He was nice. We ordered a T-Bone steak, petite filet, and lobster mac and cheese. All were delicious. The steaks come out on a sizzling plate of butter and it's to die for. Both very moist and tender, even though mine was well done. We had wine and drinks to compliment the meal. It was perfect. It is pricey, but a nice treat.

Always a wonderful experience. My only ding on all of the Ruth's Chris's is that there coffee sucks...ok..but after a great meal I enjoy a hot and tasty cup of black coffee. Other then that, service, food, and atmosphere were great.

Always a great experience at Ruth's Chris. Went in a little after the happy hour rush and sat at the bar. The bartenders provided top notch service. I ordered the prix fixe. The value was outstanding. For just over $50 I was served a salad, a large filet mignon, a side dish, and a desert. This would have easily been over $70 if I had ordered them a la carte. I go to Minneapolis for business about once a month and have been to all of the steakhouses. Ruth's Chris is simply the best. They may not have as diverse of a steak selection as Manny's, but the quality is top notch at Ruth's Chris every time. I know it's a chain and some people are turned off by that, but you are doing yourself a disservice if you skip it because of that.

I'd been wanting to try Ruth's Chris for awhile because of good reviews. I do not know where others have been eating but I was not impressed. The steaks were tasty and done to perfection so a plus. But not better than myriad other places. Sides were incredibly overpriced and not nearly as good as other places. Maybe the downtown location makes it worth it but there are lots of other places for great steak in the Twin Cities for a lot less money.

This review is for the happy hour special. I went with some friends on their recommendation, which is specific coctails and plates at half off. Basically, my steak sandwich and perfect Manahattan were less than $16. The sandwich bread was more like a light garlic toast, giving it a better flavor. I thought it was one of the better deals in town! I ended up tipping the waiter 50%, because it really was worth it.
