My First (1986) and Favorite Buffalo Wings!!! This is a great spot for food, people watching and conversation. While it is fascinating to take in the artifacts that have long covered the walls, the main attraction for me has always been the Buffalo Wings. These are wings in the original style, and they have maintained their recipe. I remember having my first piping hot order placed in front of me in 1986, inhaling, and being surprised by the effect on my nose of the hot, slightly vinegary steam. I immediately sat back, remembering to be more careful in the future. Plain un-breaded wings are deep fried until crispy and golden, then immediately tossed and thoroughly coated with Buffalo sauce. They are immediately plated with celery and blue cheese dressing and brought out to be placed in front of you. They look and smell wonderful, and may be too hot to immediately pick up. Runyon's also makes a mean Plaza Burger (burger with sour cream and onions on a dark roll), and their fries are to die for. I've also eaten other items without complaint, but the wings, plaza burger and fries are my all time favorites. I no longer live in Minneapolis, but when I'm there I always visit Runyon's. Even though it has changed hands, the quality is still there. Great service as well.

I came for the wings but the house made blue cheese is what i'll come back for. Wings lived up to expectations but I wouldn't call them the best in the twin cities. With that being said, pairing them with the blue cheese made for a great experience. Our server was also very nice.

Waited for 10 minutes, didn't get served. The place was busy with two staff covering tables/bar. When I asked for the manager and commented on the wait, I was told we should have gone up to the bar to tell them we were there.... We've been fans of Runyons for years. This visit was our first negative experience. I'm not ready to divorce them yet, but feel they may need more staff as it looked like they could have used more help.

The best Buffalo Wings outside of... well... Buffalo. I have maintained a lifelong quest for the ultimate wing and although I think I have had it (Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY) my travels brought me to Runyons, a long time stalwart in Minneapolis's eastern corridor. Every local in DTM swears by this place and it is rumored to have been the favorite wing of Kirby Puckett which in itself demands a trip. The interior is warm, welcoming and a bit dive-like without being grotesque. The bartender imported that I try the locally brewed Fulton IPA (which was a great steer I might add) so I did along with a double order of their famous wings. These wings blew away all expectations. Nearly a perfect wing. The plate was perfumed with a fiery and distinctive bouquet that had my mouth watering the second it was place before me. Excitement doesn't even begin to explain my emotional state at the time. The skin was crisp and dry allowing it to soak up the spicy, tangy and supremely delicious sauce. The mouthfeel and chew were consistently blissful and a savory sapor made way for the tang of the sauce and then the satisfying blast of heat via Cheyenne pepper. What a prodigious sauce recipe! I am truly in love with Runyon's Wings and must give them credit as the #3 after the venerable Anchor Bar and Doff's in B-Lo. To be the best outside of the city that gave the most adored of bar food of all time its name, well that is saying something. Congratulations Minneapolitans, you have a crown jewel in gastronomy with Runyon's.

I mean this joint is aight! The server was on point and attentive and my pear cider was REALLY GOOD! Can't believe the liquor tax! On to the wings.... Huuuu the only good thing was the size. The flavor was decent but I can't believe I was charged .50 for an extra blue cheese. They should have automatically come with two. I mean they were pretty big and one sauce was not going to cover it. I like my hot wings a little crispy too. I don't think they fried them before they went in the sauce, cuz the breading was kind of woogly. Maybe they baked them which is healthier but I'm eating hot wings for goodness sakes... It's supposed to be fatty, greasy and saucy. Honestly my wings are better than theirs. The atmosphere is good and my cider was good. If I ever go back... If... Maybe I'll try a burger... Or a different place altogether.. There are so many other places downtown and uptown.

Very cool, casual bar. Good drinks, limited menu but everything I have had had been really great. The wings are super. Some of my favorites.

1 star for the swiss mushroom burger. Very dry and no taste at all. Fries is also normal. Runyins Chicken wings is 5 star and only 1 waiter but so efficient so i gave her 6 star.

Are you kidding me?!?!? Get the WINGS here immediately. I came here for an early happy hour and got an order of wings. They were AMAZING. I would place them in the top 5 of wings I have ever had. Add to the quality of the wings themselves is the amazing blue cheese that they make homemade right there at Runyons. The happy hour is a great value with reduced drink prices. This is a great spot to go for drinks and some great wings.

Shout out to Renee (not sure if I am spelling that right)! On my engagement night my fiance and I decided to stroll around until our dinner reservation at 112 Eatery. I needed to make a pit stop, so we popped into Runyon's. We got a table and ordered some beers. I'm going to pause the story here to say they have some great beers on tap. Worth checking out. Back to the story. There is a party of people at the bar who are so drunk they are falling over (it is like 8:00 on a Sunday btw). My fiance makes eye contact with one of them and she supposedly gives him the "I'm sorry" look to which he gives the "It's ok" look. I think some signals got mixed because she ended up coming over to our table. At first I thought she was just going to apologize for her friends. Instead she ends up talking at us (and sometimes with us) for the rest of our time at the bar. Now this is where Renee comes in. She comes back to check on us, clearly seeing us in trouble, and puts herself between the woman and the table. Bless her heart for trying to get this woman away. Sadly it didn't work, but cheers to Renee for her good effort! The bartender (manager?) also comes up and starts dancing with the woman and twirls her away to get her to leave us alone. She comes back anyways. We leave after our beer and Renee is devastated. She feels that it is her fault that we are leaving early. We left because we had a dinner reservation. I don't think a bar has ever given me such good service before! I hear the wings are great so this will be on my go to list when I am back in the twin cities. 64/100

I went here specifically for the chicken wings. I'm a hot wings lover, raised on authentic Buffalo, NY style chicken wings. I've been to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY the home and location of where chicken wings were first served and still served, so I know what I'm talking about. Now that I've established my street cred, here is what I have to say about Runyon's. THEY CHARGE A BUCK PER WING. Yes, their hot wings are on point (100% Buffalo, NY style hot wings), and their homemade blue cheese dressing is some of the best blue cheese dressing I've had, their prices for hot wings is ridiculous. Their servers and bartenders are nice and welcoming, and wings are good. If you feel like having some good hot wings and have the money to drop, stop in here. Otherwise, keep on looking. If you find a good place that's fairly priced, please let me know.

Still looking for that ultimate wing I thought I'd give Runyon's a go. Runyon's is in an old school tavern located on West Washington just as it starts out. They can claim both Haute Dish and SexWorld for neighbors so the area has its ups and downs. They serve a traditional Buffalo style wing here - done very nicely. No undercooked rubber wings here. The have that spicy pepper sauce coating. They come in groups of 10 with celery and a nice blue cheese ($11). An easy 4 star wing. The 5th star was for the Reuben we split. Wow, it was just so good. My wife picked it, I don't even like Reubens (or do i?). A tasty Fulton's IPA to wash it all down. A friendly server who brought the food fresh and hot. Although the wing quest continues, I'm happy I stopped here

Runyon's is THE place for wings. The sauce has just enough of a kick to keep it interesting but not so much that it is overpowering. The fries are perfect for dipping into the extra blue cheese dressing cup you will want order (or tub to bathe in later). Yeah, it's that good. I'm also gonna write about the celery. Who cares? I do! If you're gonna bring me celery make it solid pieces that are crisp and cold with no leafy ends. And Runyon's does just that. Gotta get my veggies in somehow. The sweet potato fries are also very good. Hard to choose a favorite between the two so just get a basket of both. The Reuben is also good if you want to round out your meal with something between two pieces of bread. Nice sports bar vibe with lots of TVs and just a quick walk to Target field.

Best wings in town! Get hot with a side of extra hot for dipping. Family favorite. Not sure what else to say. Comfort food at its best!

One of my all time favorites for wings! Without a doubt the best chicken wings I've ever had! They are always excellent and I've been ordering them for +20 years! The French fries are also excellent. A perfect combo (wings & fries) before a Twins Game! Love the decor and the bar in general. Twins Games aside I've never seen it "crowded" here.

Top tier of dive bars. Good atmosphere and enjoy the music playing in the background. Of the two times I've been there service was five star the first time around, about a 3 on the next visit. You can definitely find a brew or even a cocktail you'll enjoy, but make sure you order the wings. Paired with their homemade blue cheese dressing, it's bar food, elevated.

If you're feeling like bar food staples, follow the flashing red sign into Runyons. I came here with my dad and stepmom for dinner recently, and was happy I listened to the overwhelming Yelp recommendation to get their chicken wings. They were fantastic and just the right level of spice. My stepmom also noted that her burger was really juicy and cooked to the level she requested. The atmosphere is dive-y, but to a fine degree - just don't expect much beyond dim lighting and old cushy booths. Our server was really nice and stopped by numerous times to check on us. Although wings/burgers aren't my go-to, I did enjoy the food and feel of Runyons far more than the major chains.

Our neighborhood haunt. They are supposed to have the best wings in town, I don't eat wings but my husband gives them 4 out of 5. That being said, we keep coming back because of the great bar service (and ability to get a stool) and the usually great beer list.

  • Phoebe R.

The homemade blue cheese dressing was delicious, unfortunately, because I ate most of it. While my friend had the same good wings I did, and a bit of the blue cheese, it was my good luck to get the more severe food poisoning. Needless to say, seeing the wings be thrown back up has turned me off of both.

  • Mike B.

Easily the best wings I've had in a long time, and convenient to all of the downtown/north loop area. Runyon's is well known for their wings, and on the recommendation of several people I decided to check it out. The rings were very well priced $10 for an order which had either 10 or 12 wings (i forgot to count, sorry). Daily Happy Hour from 3-6 with $3 select beer, wine and mixed drinks. Also, it's completely worth it to pay the $1 extra to get a large side of blue cheese in addition to anything you get, their blue cheese is incredible, it's chunky, and full of flavor. I'd highly recommend Runyon's and gladly go anytime.

Well played, Runyon's. You win. On the advice of Minneapolis Yelpers, I was directed to Runyon's to sample the best wings in the Twin Cities. I was not disappointed in the wings, though I was disappointed in my performance (not the first time that has happened, but I'll save the story of my last date for another time). Arriving here via the #4 bus early on a Saturday evening, I was graciously welcomed by the kind bartender who set me up with a nice Fulton's IPA, some seltzer, a small order of wings and a half order of fries. Historically, I have been able to consume similar portions of food with no problem. But at Runyon's, I was beaten by the orange-hued wings of fire. And that's a good thing. First off, the half order of fries was enormous. They were delicious but I barely made a dent in them. Maybe a quarter order should be an option! Secondly, the beer I had on the the barkeep's recommendation was great. Lastly, let's get to the wings. Those little bastards were delicious...the problem was a small order has at least a dozen wings in it! And they're huge!!! Did those chickens come from Chernobyl? I've never seen such meaty wings. The spiciness was the kicker. After the first wing I thought "Oh, these aren't too spicy". After the second wing, I thought "Okay, these do have a little kick". By the eighth wing, my eyes were watering and my nose was running. I love it when the spice eases up on you rather than bluntly hitting you over the head like a Belgian purse-snatcher. I tried to eat all the wings but I just couldn't. They were so good but I was so full. Maybe because I had the combo platter at Kramarczuk's earlier in the day I was off my game and a little over-stuffed, but I'm going to man up and refuse to use that as an excuse. If you like wings, you must make a pilgrimage here. I wish you more success than me in conquering those mighty wings.

Stopped in here after realizing that Marvel Bar was very much not our thing. Good old fashioned bar. Nice waitress. Didn't try the food. Played a game of Big Buck Hunter and had a few rounds that always arrived right when you needed them.

Wings, wings, wings! This is where I go when I'm craving wings, and you should too. I stopped by Ruynon's on a Tuesday around dinner time with Dustin G. before heading to Vincent on Nicollet. We split the smallest plate of wings. They were a little spicy but contrasted wonderfully with the chunky blue cheese sauce. We sat outside, they had 3 tables, and overheard some interesting and entertaining conversations from the neighboring tables. Please note that Ruynon's is located on the same block as Sex World and Sinners so I got to enjoy admiring some flashy cars parked on the street. I noticed only one tv screen inside and it seemed quiet at the time for when a Twins game is on. It's location is a little off the main path but worth the trip.

Don't look any further if you are hungry for buffalo-style wings in the Minneapolis area. This place has the best wings I have EVER eaten. But more-over the BLUE CHEESE dressing was the best I have ever tasted. The bar is a dive and has your usual staples. So yeah, wings and dive bar - done in the most pure and awesome way.

Nothing short of the best wings you will ever eat! Great spot to hit before the game or to watch it while pounding wings and fries! Plus Vanilla Ice wears a Runyons shirt all the time. If it's good enough for Ice, it's good enough for me!

I just moved to the North Loop, and was looking for a place to take my boyfriend's parents after they helped us move. They aren't really foodies, so I wanted a burger/wings kind of place. After searching Yelp and finding Runyons, I knew I'd picked a great spot for them. Unfortunately, it is just not my favorite type of place. As other reviews sad, the menu is limited and you have to want burgers or wings. I ordered the BLT and it was good. I tried a few of my boyfriend's wings and was not very impressed, although I did like the blue cheese dressing. The rest of my group had bacon cheeseburgers with fries, and for the price, the value and portion size was good. One downside was that although we were there during Happy Hour, there are no food specials. The prices are already pretty low, but I do enjoy a good food and drink HH.

First off, Runyon's is a dive bar. As far as dive bars go, Runyon's is top tier. Beer selection is fantastic. Great beer on tap, with tons of bottles. Bartenders are great. The wings are the best in Minnesota. Hands down, uncontested. They have the right amount of heat, lots of meat, chunky blue cheese dressing and plentiful portions. Ambiance is cool too. Lots of photos and quotes on the walls. This place has been here for years, and there's a reason. They do what they do extremely well.

I use to go Buffalo Wild wings all the time But this time I want to try new place so I used yelp to find the nearest wings place and nice review. Runyon !!! Wings are so good and they have home made blue cheese which is also sooooo good. Definitely recommended this place after work to have some spicy wings and few drinks.

Don't take your girl here to ask her to marry you or anything, but still a great date spot if you've been out biking the bridges all day and need a good cocktail and great chilli cheese fries. Food is only okay, but those chilli cheese fries tho...

Love this place. Get the wings, hands down. Like, seriously, come here for the wings. The rest of their food is Ok. But really you need to get the wings. Buffalo wings. So, good. Half order if you want a snack. Full order if that's all you're having. We'll easily eat a double order between two people, but stretch it if there's three. Anyway, their beer tap is Ok, they have a few local beers, and then the standard "domestic crap." They also have a good bottle list, so ask for that if you're not satisfied by the tap offerings. But really, get the wings.

  • Victor M.

Stumble into this place because of your reviews and was I disappointed? NO! A fantastic stroke of luck for me. Great crispy wings with a perfect buffalo sauce. The blue cheese dip was unbelievable. Got a 1/2 order of wings and that was a 1/2 too big for me. Plus stepped into happy hour. $3 beers! It's great vibe and deserves all it's notice.

    (5)
  • Jeff G.

The wings are very good, but the service is not so much. They will not take anything off the bill, even if you get something going other than what you ordered. If you order their "deep fried shrimp", be prepared for steamed shrimp that have been deep fried for a second. No breading, and don't try to send it back because they won't take it off the bill. Thr wings are the best in town, but the service is amongst the worst. The wings are worth two stars in and of themselves, I can leave everything else.

I am not a fan of buffalo chicken wings. They're just too damn messy. That tasty sauce is on the chicken skin and I won't eat chicken skin. Since I was a kid, I won't eat chicken skin. Yuk! (o.k... maybe every now and again, if it looks like really tasty, crispy skin, I'll eat a bite or two. But that's it!) However, after many years' absence, I returned to this place for wings. Just as I remembered, this place offers the tastiest buffalo chicken wings I've ever dared eating. Definitely finger-licking good sauce (that's how I enjoy their sauce since I pull off all the chicken skin). And they come with a pile of fresh celery sticks and a decent-size cup of bleu cheese dressing. Last night, I asked for extra celery and bleu cheese dressing and was cordially obliged. On a Superbowl Sunday evening, I was surprised this place was not busy; however, we welcomed the calm and quiet atmosphere and enjoyed the super attention we received from the bartender.

Note: this review is for drinks only Runyon's is exactly the place I want to be on a cold Minneapolis night. It is small, dimly lit, comfortable with several booths in disrepair, and decorated with some very interesting photos (including individuals in Runyon's shirts at Mt. Everest). For some reason I imagine it to be similar to Moe's from the Simpsons. They may not have 100 different beers on taps, but they do have a decent selection including Fulton and Deschutes. Fun fact: $3 Fulton Sweet Child of Vine during Minnesota sports games. I have yet to have bad service, whether from the bartender or wait staff, or a bad drink for that matter. It really is the definition of cozy. It may not be the cleanest, newest, or hippest place, but you really can't go wrong here. Grab a booth, a cold one, and just relax.

My office is a stone's throw from Runyon's - I can't believe I'd never been here before today! Admittedly, their fairly limited menu is kind of a deterrent. You really have to be in the mood for a BLT, a burger, or chicken wings to want to eat here. I have heard their wings are legendary, but again, one doesn't always find oneself with a hankering for chicken wings. Runyon's handled today's group order with finesse. It was done on time, every order was perfect, and everyone was happy. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Nick, the bartender, helped me carry my 10+ person order back to the office - talk about service! My BLT is off the chart. Thick, crispy bacon (and a LOT of it!), half of a perfect avocado, and fresh lettuce and tomatoes...I think I'm in love with this sandwich. I've been on a quest to find the best fries in town, and after today's lunch, I need look no further. Runyon's wins with their thicker cut, fried in fresh oil, just crispy enough, and tastes just a tiiiiiny bit like a doughnut...in a good way, I promise! You'll know what kind of fries I'm talking about when you try them yourself. They have a great happy hour special every day from 3-6, and a cute little patio out front. Nearly all of their tables are two seaters, so it's absolutely perfect for date night! Long story short, stop into Runyon's the next time you are Downtown and looking for a tasty bite to eat. I don't know a single person who will turn down a good BLT (especially with avocado!), and their legendary wings are a definite crowd pleaser.

This review is solely based on Runyon's wings and fries. Seriously, probably the best wings I've ever had. Perfect amount of heat. The fries are definitely in top five. Blue cheese dressing is also great. Drinks are a little pricey, but it's in the Warehouse District/North Loop area so it's to be expected. Try the Bikini Martini. Service is hit or miss, but it's a fun place to hang out so if you're waiting around it's not too bad. Plus, the food is worth waiting for. Well, at least the wings are, I haven't tried anything else in the five or six times I've been here. I'm addicted.

Stopped by after a friend of mine as well as a coworker told me the wings were the best around..... I was hoping to show up and get a wing that was going to make me never want to leave after all the hype this place was receiving from numerous sources, however... it was just another chicken wing! I will however give them credit for cooking their wings very well for the size of them, when others serving similar sized wings fail to do so.

Stopped in here last night at the request of a friend and I was not disappointed. Glad I did my homework on Yelp beforehand to learn the scoop on the delicious wings (thanks fellow yelpers!). We ordered a party platter (36 wings) to share between three people and a basket of fries. The wings were on the money. They were not dry or overcooked, the sauce had a strong taste of vinegar and the dip provided was chunky and delicious. The sauce is not very spicy. Another thing I noticed was the larger size of the wings and drummies compared to the ones served up at major chains like BWWs. Runyon's chickens must be body builders cause you get a lot more meat on the bone. The fries arrived crispy, hot and fresh from the fryer. With the large fry basket, we were unable to finish all the wings. 4 stars because service was a bit lacking. It was only a Tuesday night, but the barkeep was also the waitstaff. If you are a buffalo wing fan, check out Runyon's.

My friend and I came here at about 9pm on a Tuesday night, and man, I'm glad we did because Runyons has some of the best Buffalo wings I have ever had. You know when a whole page of a menu is dedicated to an item, it's bound to be pretty good, and that was the case with the wings. We ordered the double order of wings, a half basket of fries (per the waitresses suggestion) and two beers. I really liked how straightforward the ordering process is. Most places with wings have so many choices, but they just have the one flavor. And that flavor is amazing. Seriously. These are some seriously juicy and flavorful wings. The side of bleu cheese that comes with it is pretty large and tastes homemade. The waitress said the cook accidentally made us a full order of fries, but she was only charging us for half...which is never a bad thing, especially since their fries are out of this world, too. Tip: Unless you're going with some seriously big eaters, order the single. We ordered the double (24) and still had 14 wings left over, and I can really put wings away. I can't wait to be back!

I love this place! How much easier can it be than this? Find a comfortable bar where you've had some really good times in the past and stop in for a drink and order wings. Now all to often you get the "damn things have gone down hill" but not here. Wings are always great, good service, interesting people. Now that I think about it the last time I was here I had some kind of a sandwich and I do remember it was really good. This was a wings and beer night and I do think they have some of the best wings in the city. Note to self - must come back more often! KT

We were here on a Wednesday and it was real quiet. We were looking for good, cheap dinner and the other Yelp reviews led us here (as opposed to some of the swankier restaurants in the area). We started with wings (although, they didn't actually arrive until after our sandwiches), and they were great. I love a crunchy wing, where the sauce has become a part of the meat... I had the Rachel (a Reuben with turkey), which was delish. The beau had a cheeseburger, which he polished off with vigor. Strong drinks (but not too strong), quick service and a cheap night out! Would highly recommend!

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed Runyon's yet!!! WTH!! Anyway. We go here for wings. A lot. I don't like spicy things and I like these wings. The saucyness, tenderness of the wings and creamy cheesiness of the HOMEMADE blue cheese dressing is just the thing to cure any bad day. for the love of good wings, go here, grab yourself a beer, and order wings for dinner. WINGS FOR DINNER!!!

Runyan's is a classic downtown bar with a roaring' 20's feel to it (the nostalgia on the wall is way more entertaining than any sports they would show on TV). And the wings are great. They are prepared perfectly (and I'm from upstate New York). The fries are tasty, the servers edgy but helpful. I did have to wrestle them for the check :) Shawn's Tip - sit at the bar. You get the best view with the huge mirrors behind the bar and the bartenders are friendly and enjoy chatting up customers.

My favorite wings in the Twin Cities! Buffalo wings that is. I discovered Runyons a few years ago and have been hooked every since. I love buffalo wings and these wings do not disappoint. I love that they are crispy and you can clearly smell the vinegar part of the buffalo sauce as they bring that piping hot plate of wings over to your table. Most fun to go with a group and order a double (24wings) or party sized (36) order. The basket of fries is HUGE. So best to share it if you have at least 3-4 people in your group. The wings are served with blue cheese dressing and I normally do not like blue cheese but this one is amazing. *If you like really spicy wings this might not hit the spot for you. Parking on the street at a meter has never been a problem. Service is good. Don't expect drink specials cause it seems like they never have them. I've also ordered the wings to go on occasion and they are still good but wont stay as crispy as you'd like after cooling off in the box. Overall: Love em.

Great wings, GREAT blue cheese dressing and FANTASTIC service. We stopped in on a Sunday for lunch before an afternoon of watching football games. The decor is great with picture of celebrities, quotes and "Runyons Travelers." Our server was very attentive had a great attitude. The price was right and the food was great- we will be back!

Having now tried the food, I thought I'd update. The olive burger is OK, nothing amazing. They do the big ol' patty here with a large bun. There were a lot of olives on there, but I've had better olive burgers. I think they'd be wise to use cream cheese or something besides the melted orange stuff that was on there. The cheese didn't bring out the olives enough. The wings are super tasty here. I would recommend NOT getting them extra crispy, though. I ordered them as such based on some tips but I felt they were overcooked that way, and the texture was too difficult. The wings had a fantastic buffalo taste to them though, and the blue cheese sauce was solid; I can see why people rave about the wings here.

The service is very lacking. The waitress ignored us after dropping off menus. She started clearing a table before waiting on us. I had to seek her out to order. Waited 20 minutes (finished a beer) before we got our wings. Won't be returning,

I LOVE wings and these are the best wings in the Twin Cities IMO. Crunchy, saucy, spicy and delicious, with a well-made Bleu Cheese Dipping sauce. Plus it's relatively cheap. If you love wings, definitely check this place out. I recommend doing at least some of your wings as the "extra crispy" wings.

Food good. Service decent. Sunday quiet night. 2 hours there max. one other car in lot. Car towed! Lot within 10 feet of front door. Why don't they mention it when you walk in. We were one of 10 people there on a QUIET QUIET sunday night. Why doesn't the Runyon folks have a relationship with the obvious losers who own the lot next door? 250.00 to get our car out that night. no lie. What a joke. We spend a lot every month down town. We will NOT be spending it at Runyons anytime soon.

I was beyond disappointed in the level of service and quality here. Having been here once before, the wings were decent enough that we were intrigued to stop in again the other night. The bar was reasonably busy (although we easily found a seat right away), but there was only one waitress on staff (in her defense she was doing her best). We placed our order and at about the 45 minute wait mark began to wonder if our food order had been lost. We stopped the bartender walking by (who we later found out was the manager) and he did not even stop at our table to answer our question but instead quickly rambled something about "an order for 350 wings and the kitchen is backed up". No apology. No "thanks for your patience, please bare with us". Just a quick dismissal and dare I say annoyance with us even asking? At LEAST 15 more minutes passed and Eureka! our food finally arrived. Unfortunately, we immediately noticed that after over an hour of waiting for our food, our fries were not even a little warm. No one came by to check on our order (or apologize for the ridiculously long wait), so my husband had to go track the bartender (manager) down to let him know we needed a new order of fries. Again, no apologies. No sense of urgency. Maybe he figured we waited over an hour we can wait a little more? Over the next 10 minutes we slowly picked at our wings while waiting for our new (hopefully hot) fries. We saw 3 orders of fries pass us by to go out to other tables. (I guess our one hour wait did not merit any sort of expedite signal to correct our order). We finally pulled the bartender over to ask about the status of our fries and once again, he actually had the nerve to be annoyed with us for asking. We addressed our concerns with the long wait and the fact that we had now almost finished our wings and still did not have the accompanying fries. His answer "what do you want me to do about it?" and rambled on about how the fryers are set up to only cook wings OR fries. (So I guess never order the two together and expect them to be fresh?) In the end he did comp our food order but we never did get fries or hear an apology or felt any sense that customer service was an important element to their business. I'm sorry, the wings? Not worth the poor service (although the homemade blue cheese dressing IS pretty tasty). I can certainly find something comparable within the Twin Cities and without the poor attitude from management. At the end of the day, I don't expect a flawless experience, but I do expect management to be eager to correct mistakes and at least have the slightest concern for customer satisfaction.

Hands down the best wings in Minneapolis. Blue cheese is excellent. Beer list is much better than when I first visited three years ago. Wings aren't in 30 different flavors but the buffalo sauce is perfect. Great service as well.

After a quick search of "wings" on Yelp, it was easy to find the fan favorite and I decided to check them out. Note that I'm not well-versed in wing talk. Before going, I thought wing options would be plenty..you know: sauce or rub, spice variety, flavor variety, like I said: you know, options. My dinner companion disagreed. There's only one option when it comes to wings and that's buffalo. He was right. And it was really ok that he was right. The wings were good and so were the fries. I can understand why Runyon's is the top hit for wings. Although I did like it....and maybe since I don't go by the rule book that there's only one type of wings (buffalo)....I think my choice for wings still remains Tracy's (especially with Tuesday 40 cent wing night). But Runyon's does have a good thing going!

Nice old-fashioned bar. Would kind of be considered a dive only due to the random stuff hanging all over the walls but actually is a kind of nice old bar/floor/building. Also does not have dive prices by any means. Often is somewhat empty when I've been there, kind of lonely in that way, I'm not sure why. Not empty empty but about 5 people. But these are not prime weekend times, I have seen it full on those nights. The music they place is decent, there are some big TVs playing sports though not obtrusive and with no volume. I guess for whatever reason people mainly come here for the food which is good and cheap. The famous wings are good, a little bit spicy, and portions of everything are generous. It seems to be frequented by an older crowd, like 40+

Maybe I should have come on another night, because everything was much to be desired. No happy hour. OK, I get it, nobody is required to have a happy hour between 3 and 6, but no happy hour and my vodka soda tasted like ass. My boyfriends beer was kinda nasty due to dirty tap lines. I can't get too upset about the service, because there was ONE SERVER for the entire restaurant. She was running around like a crazy person and I felt really sorry for her. I did not have the wings. I understand that they are the best thing this place has to offer, but all together it was not a good experience.

Great place for wings, but It quickly goes downhill from there, once the bartender highjacks your conversation.... And if one of your friends is a female, forget about it! You won't be able to talk to her at all!

Juicy, meaty and with a bite. That's how I like my wings, and that's how Runyon's makes 'em. Some very plump chickens sacrificed their lives to give us these wings. The place is dark and intimate. Just my style, now that we're nearing the cold and dark time of year. Our server was so friendly and kept our beers flowing. So, if it's so awesome, why only four stars? Well, I'm a condiment whore. I smother everything in spreads, dips, and dressings. So, with wings I need a lot of dipping sauce. Next time I go -- and I will definitely be back -- I'll be sure to ask for extra!

"Late night food, interesting people" - Runyon's is close to my friend's house so I have been going there for drinks and wings lately. Great bottled beer selection but I don't understand why there is no happy hour. They are only open until 1 am every night but the kitchen stays open until then. The bar is close to several strip clubs (Sinner's, Sex World, Deja Vu, Choice) so half the customers are dancers and bouncers from those clubs. Last time I was there it must have been a slow night at Sinner's, 3 bouncers kept coming into Runyon's for shots during their work shifts. Usually later at night you and your friends will have the place to yourselves

I love this place, I can't believe that this is the first time I've come in. I love buffalo wings and this place makes perfect wings. First of all, they have the meatiest wings that I've ever tasted. The buffalo sauce was spicy hot, but you could also taste the flavor of the spices. They had the perfect blend of flavorful and spicy. They weren't hot just to be hot. They were hot with a purpose. They were also a level of hot that most people could enjoy. I also liked that they have only 1 size, 1 flavor. It sounds a little communist, but a lot of times, 1 choice is better than 25 choices. It makes it easy for you. You order wings and they bring you 12 buffalo wings, with ranch dressing and 8 celery sticks, no fuss. They also earn all five stars with their service. They are open until 1 a.m., but close the kitchen at 12:30 a.m. I got in at 12:32 and told the bar tender that I heard they had the best wings in town. He ran down to the kitchen and told them to toss one last order in for me because he wanted me to be able to enjoy the wings. I felt a little bad ordering after close, I used to work in a kitchen and cursed people who came in right before close and ordered food. My apologies to the cooking staff. If its any help, I got my wings at 12:45 and they were eaten and my tab was paid by 12:55. My recommendations in a situation like that is to be nice. I told the guy how excited I was about the wings and he went out of his way so that I could enjoy them. At about 12:45 another guy came in and asked for a drink and made a scene when the bartender said it was past last call. You give a little, and you get a little.

Best chicken wings in town. The Black and Bleu burger is delicious too. Drinks are strong and bartenders/servers are quick. You learn to appreciate this when you walk into a bar right after the Twins game and it's crazy busy. On any given night you will have a stripper sitting to the left of you, and a rocket scientist on the right. The people make this place. And the wings, of course.

These are the type of buffalo wings you want when you really, really want buffalo wings. They are literally the closest approximation to what I imagine whenever I am at another restaurant. It isn't out-there wacky flavors like the other wings you've had, they are straight up classics. I'll -1 for the pricing, but I do understand they are downtown so a little spendier. I love getting them when I am in the area or after a concert. Good beer list (not as awesome as Haute Dish's beer list next door).

Ok, some folks were telling me about a 'dive' the other day, and then I realized they were talking about Runyons! Boo! I hit this spot for lunch at least once a week...the Chili is about the best in town (the Loon's Pinto Diablo works too), get it loaded with sour cream, onion, cheese and texas toast! The wings are famous, and the staff always are cheery and fun. I went on a pub crawl and experienced the evening view of Runyons, which was a laid back, regular bar atmosphere, with LOTS of drinks. (Check out the artwork and the staff's T-shirts that say "We cheat tourists and drunks" lol) A fun place, good staff, and GREAT FOOD in downtown!

The boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat that was a little bit further away from the downtown area, where we spent most of our time during this visit to Minneapolis for a conference, so before we took the light rain to the airport we had a very late lunch at Runyon's. We both had tasty burgers and fries and enjoyed sitting at a table near the large windows near the front entrance (meaning good people watching for me; I'm not sure how his view was looking into the pub). We were both very intrigued by all the photos on the wall near our table. What's up with the photos of various folks wearing Runyon's t-shirts various places? Most of them looked like they were of the same dude, and some of the photos had the faces cut out (creepy!). No explanation.

  • Wanda M.

Summit on tap. Delicious. The wings were also super delish. 12 wings to an order. Our order had 11. Kind of divey for downtown, but I would rather go to a divey place with good beer and wings than a place where I would be ignored. Wait....if the wings are good and you are ignored and you still go back the wings must be super good.

I have to update my previous review. Due to the current overlook at my bank statement, the waitress decided to add her cash tip to the credit card slip. So I gave her $7 and she also took $7 from my card. Whoops. I wasn't that drunk. Now I have to go back to get that retracted.

I spent the evening here last night. I drank beers. I worked. I ate wings. I ate fries. The music was great. The staff was friendly. The wings and fries were incredible. I couldn't really understand why this place didn't have a crowd. It was relaxing and just what I needed after a long day of travel and meetings....did I mention beer?

  • Bryan P.

The wings live up to their reputation. Runyon's is a solid old-school restaurant. I don't mean old school as in soda jerks and jukeboxes: think more 1980s in New York City feel. The booths are big, the prices are reasonable, the food is great, and the beer is cold. If you want to sit in a booth, you likely won't see whatever's on TV so it's not fantastic for the whole wings/beer/sports tradition. What it is good for is a dinner with good friends who all happen to love great wings. Actually, it's perfect for that. If you haven't been here yet, change that soon!

Introduced to Runyon's in May by a co-worker and have to go here at least once a month for an order of their hot wings, extra crispy. The blue cheese is delicious too. The only drawback is there wings are so tasty I usually eat too many. Great lunch fare. Never been for happy hour or dinner.

Warning: Eating the wings at Runyons may cause nocturnal emissions. By far the best buffalo wings I've ever put in my big fat tummy. I'm pretty sure the chickens that sacrificed their limbs for our enjoyment were on the juice cause they were big! The sauce was just the right spiciness and radioactive orange color and the bleu cheese was fantastic. I contemplated smearing my mustache with it so I could enjoy it later. I have to stop talking about them now. My tongue is hanging out of my head.

I eat here often because I must admit they have pretty good wings, however I would NEVER dine in. There is a funny smell in the entire place, and I suspect it has to do with their location on the corner inside a very old downtown building. Aside from that however the service isn't great. The last time I did dine in I actually observed a waiter eat a french fry off of someones plate before he brought it out to them. On occasion I have had issues just placing a pick up order with someone who was rude to me over the phone. For me dining out is an experience, so if bad service is involved the experience is greatly diminished. Overall, and In terms of food selection and quality I'd say Runyon's is average. Nothing is over the top amazing yet nothing is extremely bad.

Had to check this place out after Metro Magazine deemed their wings the best in the city. They weren't kidding! Mmmm I'm craving them as I type this. There were three of us so instead of ordering 3 single orders of a dozen wings (@$10 a pop) opted for the "party platter" for $25....I didn't count the wings but we all ate a LOT and there were 6 or 7 left (and a pile of napkins) when everything was said and done. The chunky blue cheese was great for dipping.

It's true- their wings are awesome. Best I've had in the cities. I dig the atmosphere of the bar and the bartenders have always been friendly and provided great service. Go for the wings, you won't regret it.

I thought i'd give this business another chance. I have to say the wings are still great. the drinks are still good but the service is lacking. We waited near 35 minutes for nothing more than 2 orders of wings, no fries, no fancy anything just plain chicken wings. I finally asked where our food was. The waitress said it'll be coming soon. we just had two tables of 14 people.... I do understand that it does take longer for food to get out when a place is busy. Those tables had their food and had long since cleared out when i asked about ours. Also another table got their food 5 minutes before we had-and they arrived after. I don't believe i'll be coming back. Poor service ruins a dining experience no matter how good the food is.

Classic. Not a dive, but has the perfect amount of wear and tear. Great wall decor - very tongue in cheek. Possibly best know for their chicken wings, but I LOVE the Olive Burger. Good beers, good peeps, good fun.

We came here for wings since the reviews were so great, but didn't end up ordering any. My husband loves wings, but I didn't find anything else on the menu that was worth ordering so we had our drinks and left. Definitely a dive. The service was very good and friendly.

Best wings in the cities, without a doubt. The wings at this place slap BW3 (meh) and Hooters (ish). I would marry the sauce they use on the wings. The drinks are all right but they don't free pour so they are a bit weak. You can order a tub of sauce to take home, which we've done. Ultimately you can't get a better wing around here. Totally worth it.

Sometimes you'd think I just stepped off the boat to the twin cities. It doesn't help that I get really set in my ways. For example, I've never been beyond Hennepin & Washington, and if I had gone one more block I wouldn't have been out of the 'north' loop, and wouldn't have waited 22 years to find out about Runyons. I felt a little squeamish having read the reviews about the hot wing sauce. Plenty of heat, but not lip burning and eye watering. More like finger licking and bone sucking good.Talk about perfection. Haylee is a very nice waitress, with blond hair and baby blue eyes. She looked like something out of 60's London. She was just as nice and very attentive. She didn't even mind when I objected to the white celery and asked for greener. It went something like, " I hate to be a snob but ". Did that come out of my mouth? I was immediately handed fresh celery sticks that matched the awesome blue cheese dressing. I love the wall and kitschy 80's bathroom. Lent is over, but the Santa Fe shrimp in wing sauce are definitely on the try list. Are they the best wings? Lets just say I feel a new list coming on.

  • Julie S.

As many of my friends know, I am a bit of a wings snob. I was born in Buffalo and my extended family is still there. I love wings! When I go for wings, I want them to taste like a Buffalo wing or else I want something completely different (like the oyster wings from Azia). My friend and I searched Chicago for the "perfect" wings and I never found them. He is from TX, so he likes them with a tangy tabasco flavor. He was able to find a few places to suit his needs. The Midwest wings seem to favor more of that tangy, vinegary flavor, which is fine but not my thing. Some tabasco and vinegar is good, but that isn't the main kick I want. I want hot and spicy like cayenne. I like them to be soaked in the sauce before being cooked so the sauce permeates the skin rather than being slathered on the outside. They also need to be crispy. Non-negotiable. My benchmark is the Bar Bill in East Aurora, if anyone is familiar. (yum!) But back to Runyon's... we stopped in on the pub crawl. Dan S and Sarah P were eating the wings. They offered me one, but I hesitated. They swore that I would like them and convinced me to give it a try. I have been let down so many times in the past. Would this be the wing that would give me hope? Yes. Yes, it was. They were so good! Finally! (In other words, Dan S was right and I was wrong.) I also liked the vibe at Runyon's. The staff was friendly and attentive. The room had a nice cozy pub feel. I am knocking off one star only because I wish they had a more interesting beer list. Did I mention that I am a bit of a beer snob too? ;)

  • Luke S.

Best true Buffalo wings around. The wings are just great, which is why I don't know why this place is rarely busy. One Saturday night we were the only ones in the place for a while. I don't order mixed drinks here because they do not free-pour, which results in a weak drink. Another small disappointment is they seemed to have raised their food and beer prices in this poor economy. We've been ordering a pint of their wing sauce to take home which was a deal at $2.50, but the last time we did this, the bartender/server noticed what a deal it was and said he'd have to 'fix' that.

  • Chris W.

All you need to do is come and try their buffalo wings! They hit the spot every time and they have a great homemade blue cheese. The pictures on the wall are great to look at and if you buy a shirt and travel you can get your picture up there. The staff is great and are always working hard and ready to get you another drink! *My mouth is watering just writing about the wings!

Wings are as awesome as everyone says. Service has been extremely spotty at times. Maybe they have picked it up since the stadium opens, but who knows. Looking forward to stopping back in soon, that is if I can walk past haute dish without entering.

  • Colin D.

Can't believe it's taken me a year to find this place. Inside is old style with a dark but still welcoming interior. As everyone else has said the wings here are great, some of the best I've had. For $10 you get a load of perfectly cooked wings with a sauce with just the right amount of heat. Barman was the perfect host. I know I'll be back.

im still too full to reflect and create original thoughts on my wing experience but it was SOOOO ridiculously amazing, i will sacrifice a funny future review for an immediate, to the point review in case anyone is craving wings for today and needed to know. my special friend and i ate 36, no shit, 36 wings. we started with 24 and upped the anty to 36.. they are abslutely the best wings i have ever had- the blue cheese dip has a perfect chunk to non-chunk ratio. the wings were meaty and perfectly spiced. to quote my special friend... "i will have nocturnal emissions thinking of these wings tonight" to quote me "i will flick the bean to these wings tonight"

  • Jen B.

Plus two stars for the fantastic hot wings. Plus one star for the awesome service I got one time. Minus two stars for the awful service I had another time. Seriously, the bartenders are all over the place with how they treat you. One guy, older with a thick European accent, is super nice and accommodating. Another younger guy was snotty and abrasive, to the point that he almost cost the place alcohol revenue by copping a bad attitude. Also, they don't have regular coke, I guess? They only have some off brand, and they don't disclose this fact when you order a coke. I might not notice but then again I'm not a big soda drinker. But one of my drinking companions definitely did, and he was not impressed.

Known for their wings and great bar, Runyon's is a Minneapolis gem. They serve fresh citrus juice if you're into greyhounds, sea breezes, etc. Staff can have an attitude in the kitchy New York way. These days seen as old school.

Bad lunch experience. After receiving my order of undercooked food, the manager did not compromise, or discount the bill. Will not return. Raw chicken is not good business.

This is a great old-fashioned bar, with burgers, wings, fries and a very attentive staff. While Runyons seems to mostly be known for those burgers, my favorite item on the menu is the Reuben. It's way too much food and not a lot of money. Good times!

    (4)
  • Teresa D.

I went here on the promise of fantastic wings. I was sorely disappointed, considering they keep getting named "Best of" for hot wings. They were not hot, just regular generic, way too vinegary. Only plus was they had a lot of meat on them. I'll keep looking.

  • Michael N.

tried to steal a seat at the bar over at 112 but there was a bit of a wait and we wanted some food before catching a movie at block E. Runyon's was right around the corner so stopped in. apparently i should have tried the wings based on the other reviews...maybe next time. i had the roast beef sandwich which was ok. the au jus was pretty good and the beef wasn't bad either. i just had one at mayslack's last week so it was tough to compare to that. not a bad spot...
