Most of the reviews here hit it on the nose. Spendy, but awesomely good sandwiches. I think I might be addicted to the Cubana. I'm really hard pressed to find a more perfect sandwich in the Twin Cities. It's got a perfect balance of textures, temperatures, and spice. My only *gripe* is the wipe. Yeah, ummm Manny, do us all a favor give us a slightly more substantial napkin than a cheap cocktail napkin, would ya? I just spent over $10 for a sandwich and a water - it would be nice to be able to wipe my hands and face with a decent napkin. Heck a sheet of paper towel would be a better option than what you currently offer. Regardless, I'll be back for more Cubanas (Cubani?)...

I somehow lost my mind and forgot about Manny's for a while! The Manny's special is my fav sandwich in the twin cities.

Try Manny's special or a Cubano. So good!

Ive heard about this place for quite a while, and decided to try this Mexican sandwich. I ordered Manny's special. I dont remember what's in the sandwich, but every single bite tasted awesome. A bit pricey for the sandwich, but definitely worth it.

Manny's Tortas is amazeballs. If you are searching for the best sandwich in the twin cities, then look no further. It has the perfect balance of melty, gooey, cheesy, salty, chewy, crunchy, crusty, savory goodness. It is the most crave-able sandwich I've ever devoted my hunger to. The Manny's special is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the disneyworld of the meat on bread kingdom, the sun and the stars. This thing is better, then it's best. Every savory bite is incredible. Avocado, grilled onions and peppers, grilled steak and pork, melty cheese inside perfectly baked bread. Eat it, let it fulfill you- then wish you were still hungry so you could eat another one. Oh yeah- Manny is super humble and incredibly accommodating (oh you don't eat 'shrooms, no prob.....etc,etc) best sandwich in the cities period. Damn, I'm getting one for lunch again tomorrow.

First time having Manny's after my BF keeps raving about their steak tortas, and I understand why he hypes this place up. Sandwiches are made to order and their condiments really make this sandwich sing. I'm usually a "skip all sauce" type of girl but my BF said to try it as its suppose to be made and so I did (not a big mayo/ketchup/mustard type fan in any type of sandwich or foods). This sandwich however was excellent. It had a nice kick from chipotle pepper mayo and jalapeño peppers that didn't overpower my taste buds. Each sandwich also includes refried beans, avocado, onions, and standard tomato and cheese and lettuce. Each bite I took, had a fiery taste that was soon soothed with the creamy avocado spread. I suppose if you don't like spicy things you could opt out on it but as my BF always says, get the damn thing like its suppose to be. Ugh, I guess he wins this round. Will return soon!

I've been coming to Manny's before the midtown global market times. When they had a location further down Lake Street by the Third Precinct. Prices have gone up at least $2.00 since the good ol' days. I went to satisfy my Manny's Chicken sandwich craving today, and I had quite the appetite. Sandwich was good, but I wasn't amazed like usual. I can't put my finger on why, but I left feeling unsatisfied. Kinda disappointing for a $9.65 sandwich...

This was so legit. It's been on my bookmarks forever but I never went because I'm not huge on sandwiches. Yesterday I found myself craving a Cuban sandwich so I thought I'd hit this place up to try theirs. I got there and it was Manny at the register! I told him I had never been thhere and he suggested the Manny's Special. Said it was the best. Sold. How can I go wrong with Manny's suggestion? I ordered mine sans avocado, mayo on the side. While I was waiting, I talked to Manny for a while! He's so nice. We talked about weightlifting because I was clearly in gym clothes and he made me flex for the girl who was making my food, haha! He's an awesome guy and I loved chatting with him! The torta was excellent, but pretty greasy and salty. The bottom got soggy pretty quickly. Otherwise, the flavors were amazing together. I am glad I tried his special and I look forward to going back and trying the Cuban next time!

At 3PM with nothing in my belly since previous night's dinner, I was ready to eat the world. I settled for Manny's Tortas at Midtown Global Market given the reviews.... But I was a bit disappointed. I was debating on the Cubana or the Manny Special and got the latter because I am easily convinced with food pictures, and they advertised it by the cashier... This sandwich/sammy had heated steak and veggies (jalapeños included but can be removed if you are not into the heat) inside, a slice of ham, and some kind of sauce that looks like an aioli but spicier. They also give you a side of lays chips. The biggest gripe I have with the place was that my sandwich was soggy. As in one side of the bread was so mushy i had to eat it with a fork because it just fell apart. It was not even attractive falling apart (not like my Chipotle burrito exploding into a plate which I will gleefully eat) but more like "oh well now since this takes so much effort it gives me a reason to not finish it". Also, I should note that I ate the sandwich literally right after I got it -- as in, sandwich off the grill for a minute and into my mouth. So, how within those 60 seconds it became slush I have no idea. While it didn't cost that much (I believe $8.95), given it is located in a market with so many other great options I sort of wish I tried elsewhere. The flavoring was okay but it was not anything I particularly thought I would try again. Somehow I thought it would be Mexican themed sandwiches (probably given the classification it is under in Yelp) but I was not convinced when I had it. I was glad that I split the sandwich with my boyfriend so I didn't have to finish the whole thing. That being said, the man who I assume to be the owner, seems very nice. He was talking to locals/regulars and greeting their children. I am a bit of an optimist so I would be willing to try another sandwich and update my review.

I went there the other day for a meal. They sort of remind me of Jimmy John's but different. It's hard to explain how it's different. That's certainly not a bad thing. I had a great time there. The food was great, and the people were friendly. I had the hawaiian "sub" meal (it wasn't really called a sub). It was the owner who served me. I had a good conversation with him, and he was friendly. I don't make it to Global Market often, but when I do, I will keep this place in consideration. I will be back.

Still love Manny's Tortas, and I'm sure that if this eatery resided any closer to my crib, I'm sure all three of these things would happen: 1) my pants would "fit" a lot tighter; 2) I would know all of their employees by at least first name; and 3) my monthly budget would include a torta section. This love between two cheeks of bread is. Just. That. Good. I've tried most of these babies, but I usually get the Milanesa (breaded steak). If breaded steak isn't your thang, consider getting the Cubana (pork tenderloin, ham, and cheese). However, all their sandwiches will make your tongue dance circles. I have no gripes about the food, however for this location, the orders come out a bit slow for me. For whatever reason, the Mercado Central location seems to shovel out the food much faster without sacrificing quality. I prefer that location, despite being farther away from where I live. Also, these savory sammies come at a steeper price than other torta joints, but they are better. (This is not to say that other taquerias can't hold it down.) Love you still, Manny's Tortas.

So many choices in the Midtown market but Manny's Tortas is not a tough decision. Their sandwiches are prepared fresh and taste fantastic. The gals working behind the counter were very nice & helpful. The tortas are big both in size and flavor. I don't know what to say. They are SO GOOD. Like, so so so good. You will not leave disappointed - any torta you order is full of fixings and taste. Try it - you'll like it.

I went to Manny's during the Taco Tour of Lake street at the Midtown Exchange. They had a special meat made up which was a melt in your mouth pulled beef of sorts. It was the best taco of that day and I ate 5 tacos throughout the day. Did I mention tacos are my favorite food? They are, so nuff said. I can't wait to go back to Manny's and get not just another taco but what they're known for-a torta. Sooo much goodness.

I took the Greenway here for a late lunch. I was hoping to have missed the lunch crowd, but there was still a decent stream of people trickling in. I was excited to try this place out after reading the reviews, but apprehensive because the only other time I've tried a torta was very mediocre. My friend placed an order for the #8 Milanesa Torta (breaded steak cutlet), and I followed suit. I was watching one of the staff spoon avocado right out of the shell and onto the sandwich bread and got way too excited! The torta was fantastic! The ingredients were fresh, well-balanced with no ingredient overpowering the other. The steak cutlet was tender and breaded well. It was delicious and now my go to torta. The staff were very polite, and the area was clean and well kept. My only issue was that it was ~$9.50 for a lunch that was essentially a great sandwich, a bag of chips and a bottle of water. I could do without the chips, honestly, but it comes with it (?). It's hard to justify the steep price with jimmy johns and potbelly as my sandwich pricing standard. But, I can see myself making a stop here every now and then for my delicious torta fix.

Absolutely love the Cubana! When I go to MGM I usually go to one of 3-4 places, Manny's is one of them for many reasons. Although it's not the cheapest option in the market they definitely have some good things going for them. 1. The Tortas are great, my favorite is definitely the Cubana. 2. Crafty Mexican Sodas, the Mango is awesome. 3. And of course it's close to Sonora Grill. Nothing new here, Manny's Tortas has been around for a while and if you haven't tried it then you're missing out.

Great spot to grab a quick lunch, I had the manny's special. It had steak, onions and ham. Delicious, tender and saucy. The bread wasn't too hard and it was a really good sandwich, fair prices. They also throw in a bag of chips which I swapped for avocado instead. I highly recommend that because not only is it healthier, avocado anything with bread is delicious! Definitely come here if you're at the market!

Give this girl a sandwich, and I'm happy. Make it a Mexican sandwich, and I'm ecstatic. A torta is always a good idea. So head over to Manny's and order the Haiwaiana or Juevos con Chorizo with a jarrito.

  • Ryan F.

This place has been on my radar forever...even when they had a physical location on Lake st. Finally got around to trying them on a eating tour the girl and I did on Sunday at the Midtown. I got the Mannys special and she got the Chorizo and egg. Both Mannys way, with onions, guac, etc. Reasonably priced for how filling they are. Everything tasted fresh, and the sandwhiches are made to order. Only 2 complaints- one is they food took a while to come out, and two, my sandwhich was NUCLEAR hot. Like, too hot to even hold. I didn't know food could get that hot without burning away. It made the bottom bun disintigrate of my sandwich. But once it cooled down, was fantastic.

With so many food options at Global Market, I picked this one because I remembered the name from yelp. We both ordered Manny's special. These were served hot off the grill. The blend of meats, cheese, peppers, tangy sauce and avocado slice just work great together. They came with chips. All washed down with a Tamarind Jarritos. They appear to be opening a brewery right next to Many's so maybe next time I will have a beer. They were so good I was sorely tempted to order another. I don't know where I would have put it though. That first one filled me up.

Surprisingly delightful! When I saw what looked like hoagie rolls, I was apprehensive. Thankfully there was pixie dust or something on the grill; there had to be because the finished product took me someplace. The journey started out in a skeptical American Deli/Mexican fusion market and ended in a college memory of hung over torta goodness.

Not the same as the places in Chicago neighborhoods but good enough for a fix. And I got tiramasu for dessert????

The Hawaiian was amazing. The ingredients should not work together (pineapple, ham, jalapeño, avacado, beans, lettuce, tomato and chipotle sauce), but they are perfect compliments!

  • Big W.

Of course it should taste good (and it does), but what I love most about food is signature nuance. Manny's delivers a torta reminiscent of the best with hot ingredients separate from cold, only finding their commingled magic in the mouth.

I stop in at Manny's for a tasty torta a couple times of month. If I bring someone new to the market, I always suggest they try a torta above anything else you can find there. The service is always friendly and there's a pretty good chance that Manny himself will take your order and deliver it to you when it's ready. They have their system down to assemble the tastiness fairly quickly, however, they've started taking Bite Squad orders so you may have to contend with those guys queued up for their orders. I've seen as many as four Bite Squad deliverers waiting at one time. If you see that, you many want to head elsewhere in the market if you're in a hurry. I normally stick with the pork loin or steak torta but have tried the three little pigs special (ham, bacon, pork loin) once and it's as delicious as it sounds. They do have a new menu and I noticed they have tacos and salads - maybe they had these before but I didn't notice before. Go grab at beer at the new tap room right next door and have your torta delivered!

Really the best god-damn Torta I've had. I don't know what Manny does differently but he's on to something. I've had good decent Tortas at other Minneapolis taquerias but non come close to this. Food court atmosphere leaves something to be desired, would be awesome to see these in a place where you could get a beer.

With so many good places to choose from in the Global Market it can be really difficult sometimes to decide where to eat. My best advice is to just flip a coin and let the result be your destiny. When that coin lands on Manny's tortas you won't be disappointed. In my opinion, these are the best tortas in Minneapolis. My favorite is Manny's take on the Cuban sandwich (The Cubana). The only difference between a normal Cuban and Manny's Cuban is that Manny's substitutes Jalapenos for the normal pickles, which makes this sandwich even better. I guess it's a Mexican Cuban? I don't like to order the same thing every time I dine, but this sandwich is so good, I find myself in a rut when I come to Manny's because all I ever order in the Cubana but hey, that is just fine. It's almost like my own episode of Best Thing I Ever Ate! I do find it strange that they don't offer chips and salsa, instead you get normal potato chips with your sandwich, but that's ok. Guess it is just a sandwich. (A really good sandwich). The service is excellent, the atmosphere is great and the tortas are out of this world. You can't go wrong if you're at the Global Market and you decide to eat at Manny's. Sandwich wise this place is 5 stars, I'm giving it 4 because it's just a sandwich joint!

It really can't be said enough, "delicious" and "best tortas in town!" Be warned, these tortas are a little pricy for for their size, but they're very satisfying.

Manny's Special is the best hot sandwich in Minneapolis. Every time I go it's better than I remembered it. The sandwich comes out piping hot so I try to give it a few minutes before I dig in. Filled with fresh ingredients, it will begin to fall apart after a few bites. But that's not a problem because each ingredient is delicious on it's own.

They have the best vegetarian sandwich/torta I've ever had. This place is a awesome and love eating here.

Cubana FTW! Located behind Sonora Grill in the Global Market (closest to Lake St entrance) All of Manny's tortas are prepared with cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, avocado, jalapeño peppers, refried beans, chipotle pepper mayo and chips. I particularly enjoy the Cubana, but all of them are pretty dang good. The avocado with chipotle mayo take these hot tortas to the next level! Warm and spicy. Great flavor. One of the best hot sandwiches Ive had in a while. The only knock is at $9-$11 for torta and drink, you are definitely paying for what you get.

The best torta from coast to coast. Steak, ham, avo, jalapenos, bread grilled with butter and refried beans. A must eat in Minneapolis. Spoke to the owner Manny, who hails from Mexico city, couldnt have been any nicer.

For my second evening in Minneapolis, I wanted a cupcake and some good food. A quick search on Yelp directed me to Midtown Global Market, and I'm glad it did! There were so many awesome food stands, I was considering sampling a little bit of everything... but settled down and kept my original plan of getting a torta from Manny's. I tried the Cubana, and it was delicious! A nice mix of spicy, salty and sweet, I finished it off in no time. If had enough opportunity to come back a few times, I'd try more varieties, because I'm sure they'd all be as good as the Cubana!

Manny rocked the sunday brunch at Midtown Global Market. The eggs were perfect, the papas not too spicy. The tortillas worked the entire meal. Manny was so gracious and pumped out the tasty food. Keep making the salsa verde Manny, it could save the world!

As a former Vermonter, my mexican experiences were limited to say the least before I moved out here. I've definitely expanded my palate since then, and Manny's is a great option for people looking for the mexican flavors without being pigeonholed into tacos or burritos. I had the fried steak torta, and a mexican coke, which set me back around 10 dollars, which seems like a bit more than a sandwich is worth, but boy was it delicious. I can't wait to go back and try out some of their other options.

Manny's Tortas are a bit of heaven. In fact whenever I have out of town guests, we always eat lunch at the Midtown Global Market and have a torta. Since my out of towers are usually southerners - they are thrilled by the tortas and the whole mid-town global market experience. I usually order the Vegetarian, but can also endorse the egg with mexican sausage - mmmm good. My boyfriend usually has the Manny's special or the pork loin and he is a pretty happy camper too. The best thing other than getting to eat the Manny's torts is that you get to wash it down with a Mexican coke. As an added bonus to all this goodness, Manny himself is usually there to provide a bit of conversation and is a really swell guy. Be sure to remember to ask for parking validation if you park in the ramp!!

A group of us took off from downtown Minneapolis for a quick lunch at Midtown Global Market. We entered the large building and walked through all the stalls and saw all of the eclectic food and gifts. My buddy recommended Manny's Tortas because he heard they were great. I ordered a Cuban torta and my friend ordered the Manny's special. With a coke and bag of chips it was $10.17. Manny was heading the register and was a pretty nice guy. Behind Manny on the gill was a chef cooking up lots of meat and veggies and all sorts of good stuff. We decided to split the sandwiches and take a half each. I bit into the toasted bread, which was awesome for my first bite of the Cuban. It reminded me a lot of a toasted ham sandwich, but the flavors were everywhere. A little salty, but that was a common theme with our tortas. The Manny's Special was full of beef and some avocado and sauce and goodness. Again, too salty, but it was extremely good. The sandwich was perfect lunch size and would be an easy recommend anytime a friend goes to Lake street. A couple of others get the Manny's Special and also really liked it. Don't try the burrito place across from Manny's though. The burrito had bones in it! Not sure of the name, but stay away! Manny has another restaurant near this location on Lake as well. Great service, awesome food means good review. Simple.

What a great little place! Hubby & I were in town visiting and just had to stop by Midtown Global Market. So happy we decided to find somewhere to eat there so we could discover Manny's. We had one of the BEST sandwiches we've ever had. Fresh ingredients, cooked & seasoned to perfection! If you are in the area & your tummy is grumbling, let Manny's take care of it :-)

Why does this place have to be too far from my neighborhood?! Damn that's a good sandwich. Stopped here for lunch while in the neighborhood and loved it! The people who work there are really nice and there is a lot of seating space. If closer I would come here all the time.

Manny's is to the grilled sandwich what Lu's is to the toasted. Actually I can't say that with too much swagger, as my Torta experience is much more limited and much more depressing than my Banh Mi experience. (Taqueria Los Gallos, for a time capsule?) Most tortas I've had have been cold, iceberg lettuce laden, and boring. Not here! It's funny. The tortas - they look so little. You think you're going to be hungry and you just dropped 8-9 bucks. And then that SO does not happen. They expand through the magic of avocado and awesome. Filling, fresh, just enough kick. Milanesa was good, my mate's Cubana was great. Also, I find the price justified in the fact that someone has to grill and tight wrap these little beauties, and they come out just as fine as anything I've had at schmancy spots like Blackbird and what have. Manny was at the counter and strikes me as a total mensch too, how cool.

We got back from our Man v. Food tour to AZ still craving that amazing Los Reyes de la Torta taste sensation. After a couple weeks of my wife lamenting our local lack of tortas I set my search engine on full torta engage! Behold Manny's Tortas... I'd never been to the Midtown Global Market before so this was shaping up to be quite an afternoon event. We navigated the loot-filled walkways surrounded by perfume, hats, pastries and all manner of goods not found in our suburb. I was nearly distracted by the seafood taco stand when we finally recognized Manny working behind the counter. We stepped up to order and Manny graciously greeted us as we let him know we were first timers and were quite excited to try his well-reviewed product. I wanted to try to duplicate the Torta del Rey so I asked if I could mix and match torta ingredients... 'Of course!' was Manny's enthusiastic reply. He had a big smile and contagious energy and the man truly loves what he does. I ordered the breaded steak torta with egg and chorizo and had intended to take half of it home... oh hell no. The creamy avocado, tangy spicy sauce, savory breaded steak and amazing egg and chorizo were too much to resist. I'm not sure how much he charged for my hybrid but it was worth every cent. My wife had something too but I wasn't paying any attention. I look forward to my next trip to the MGM... I'm not sure if I'll have the same hybrid or challenge Manny to come up with something bigger. I wish I lived or worked closer to this awesome lunch mecca. Be sure to visit Manny at the MN State Fair this year. He's been looking forward to a State Fair presence for many years and this is his first time. Congratulations Manny! We'll see you there!

Most people say "Manny's" and you automatically assume "Manny's steakhouse - expensive!" But nope, not this. Think, "Manny's Tortas - expensive!" The gentleman behind the counter is muy friendly and willing to give recommendations. He must have witnessed my confused look because he whipped out an old magazine, flipped it to the last page and said, "this is what you should have! STEAK SANDWICH!" I obliged. Eleven dollars later, I'm stuffing my face with an overly salty sandwich. The avocado makes a world of difference. The juices make it quiet delicious.. although it looked nothing like the picture. Totally recommend if you want to stick to something safe. I think it's a little overpriced for a sandwich place, but Manny's deems itself as a "gourmet sandwich shop" so I suppose that means the prices are a little more gourmet as well!

  • Mike K.

The Manny's special was very good. I didn't care for the bread, as it had the quality of an oversized plain white hot dog bun, not the bun I have experienced at other locations (including multiple locations in Mexico). The atmosphere of the Global Midtown Market is State Fair, at State Fair prices. I thought the sandwich with a bag of chips at $8.95 was overpriced and I left hungry. Manny and his help were very helpful, friendly and they did a nice job. I have found other locations for lunch that I would prefer to spend my hard earned dollar.

We drove through rush hour traffic and got lost when we tried to go to the old location, but it was well worth the trip. These sandwiches kind of reminded of a Mexican banh mi thit...French bread filled with spicy, rich, and meaty flavors. .I don't remember all the ingredients but think meat, jalapenos and a tangy thousand island like sauce. I ordered the cubana and my cousins got the steak and chicken. They were all awesome. My cousin has acid reflux and didn't even care that he was going to get heart burn...mucho awesome.

I sought out manny's in the midtown market because of all the yelp reviews. Yum! I wasn't sure what to expect, I mean, what's a torta anyway? But ordered a chicken torta without jalepenos or mayo. I love that avocado is standard, I have quite the love affair with avocado. The cook must have decided to ignore the check box for no mayo. She must have looked at me and thought "this girl doesn't know it, but this sandwhich needs the mayo." She was right! I hate mayo, but I think the little spicy chipotle-ness really added something. I don't know how the average sounding ingredients came together so spectacularly, but they did. Yum! I saw another review saying the sandwich was just right for 2 people. Who are you kidding? I ate the whole thing happily! $8 for a sandwich? Well, Manny knows his fame and banks on it. Can't blame him!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
