Excellent service and food. I had to filet with crabcake on top, very good. Wife had just filet. Meat was great. Many other items that looked tempting but no more room. Had raspberry chocolate chip ice cream for dessert - highly recommended. Prices were reasonable. $5 charge for valet but worth it with Target field next door. Highly recommend JD Hoyt's, will be going back, hopefully soon.

Since I work in the North Loop/Warehouse district area, I've often walked by /driven past J.D Hoyt's and I've always wanted to try it out. I like the big, bold colors and the way it looks like a place for businessmen from the early 80's. So my coworker and I came by here to try out their happy hour, which is one of the rare restaurants by the Twins stadium that actually offers happy hour during game days. What a win! They have a pretty small happy hour menu-but it's full of things you wouldn't expect, like crab cakes, cajun catfish fillets, and a buddy bowl, which looked really tasty. They also have pretty good drink prices, and a $5 martini. We both ordered the martini, which switches up every day-we ended up with a Cosmopolitan.I ended up ordering a quesadilla, because I was hangry and I saw someone else's and it was huge. The drinks were STRONG and absolutely delicious. I limited myself to one, and was feeling pretty tipsy by the end. My quesadilla was large and tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary...though my friend's catfish fillets were delicious and spicy. Will order these next time. What a perfect place for a happy hour pre-Twins game! I can't wait to come back.

I have been to JD Hoyt's many times and been pleased with the atmosphere, food, etc. I took a group of people there a couple weeks ago on a Saturday however, and had a horrible experience. The hostess seated us promptly per our reservation as they were not busy, but after 15mins I had to go ask for our server. After the orders were taken, we had two items come back undercooked and one overcooked. We let the server know and the undercooked items were taken back, but then they both came back over cooked and one item was burned. I was disappointed with the overall experience, disappointed that two couples that came for the first time spent over $100 each and had a bad experience, and disappointed that our server didn't acknowledge anything. Given we were out for the evening with friends I did not make a big deal about the issues, but I followed up the next day. I explained the scenario the next day over the phone, I was told someone would call me back to address and nothing ever happened. A comp drink from the server the night of the bad experience to the people impacted or a $25 gift card for the two couples when I addresses would have gone a long way.

There was a party in another area of the restaurant, but my area was not that busy. Unfortunately, it took nearly an hour to get my food. When the food finally arrived, it was really good! No offer was made to comp an item because of the long wait either. That surprised me. Might be willing to go back for another try.

Many trips and have yet to have a bad experience. Lunch, dinner, brunch, happy hour doesn't matter. Food and wine selections are fantastic and you can't beat the cajun pork chops. If I had to nit-pick I'd say the potatoe side dishes are a bit greasy but still good. Service is good, smaller rooms keep from getting too loud so it's nice for a group or intimate dinner (ask for a back room table if you want more quiet.)

J D Hoytes is fantastic! They are known for their Pork so if you like Pork come here. Everything on the grill is hickory charcoal grilled and the meats are rolled in pepper corns and a cajun style dry rub! I ordered the swordfish which was amazing. It was $25 but worth it for Christmas. Comes with steamed vegetables and ala carte sides. The dirty rice and red beans are alright, but could have had a bit more kick to them. The Cajun style hash browns are classic Minnesota, you betcha Minnesota.

This is my favorite restaurant in the cities. Service is very good, food is excellent. I have been to JD Hoyt's three times in the past year and have ordered the same steak (ribeye with blue cheese) every time. It is done to perfection and I feel it is better than Manny's. Sides are glorious. The Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes are recommended. Garlic cheese bread is a must and the beef tips for an appetizer have three sauces that are good individually but even better mixed! Love it.

Been coming here for over 20 years and the food is consistently good. I especially enjoy sitting in a booth in the "old part" - yes, at one time, it was only the bar and a few small booths. While the prices have gone up a bit, for my money other than Capital Grill, these are the best steaks in town. An be sure to order the old fashioned relish tray (once free, now an ala carte option) and try "Mike's Potatoes" - like au gratin with a few other secret ingredients. Free valet parking is a bonus but be sure to go on open table for a reservation if you are heading there on a weekend.

I went to J.D. Hoyt's for the first time for a Christmas party. We reserved the back room since there were 15 of us and we tend to get a little loud. When we arrived they seated us right away even though the whole group was not there. We had the Dirty Rice and their Garlic Cheese Toast as appetizers. Both were phenomenal! I could have ate a whole basket of the toast. I may or may not have ordered my own basket. For dinner I had the Charcoal Grilled Halibut with Cajun Seasoning , it was AMAZING! I love fish and this is probably some of the best fish that I have ever had at a restaurant. It wasn't bland or over seasoned, it was just right. Everyone enjoyed their food. We had some wine. Of course we had wine! They have a decent wine and drink menu, but they have a corkage fee of $25. A few members of our group knew that beforehand and they brought a few bottles of wine. It will save you a little money, depending on the wine and how much you plan to drink. The service was the best service I have ever had. Hands down, she was awesome! She was patient with our loud, obnoxious and A.D.D. group and she even joked around with us. She never rushed us to leave the back room, even though we were there from 4:30 pm to 11:00 pm. It is a little spendy, but definitely worth it.

Went here on our anniversary. I had the much ballyhooed Cajun chops. They were pretty good but no religious experience. We shared a buddy bowl and it was our least favorite- did not finish. The au gratins were pretty good. Hash-browns are good too. We had a bottle of wine the server suggested which was pretty good. We had the lobster risotto which seemed fishy and really salty but got eaten. My bride had crab cakes which were decent. Overall it was pretty good but no need to return or steer friends here. The Cajun double chops are tender and cooked well but overrated in this pork lovers opinion. Average experience for the price when compared locally. Lots of energy in the place. Service was decent.

A little sketchy being right next door to Deja Vu, but I wanted to try it regardless. Free valet is one of the reasons I didn't mind it. I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his getting matched for fellowship because he is a steak lover (as am I). It was really busy when we arrived on a Friday night and VERY loud by the entrance. Seemed like a pretty fun place to have a few drinks with friends though. We were seated in the back at a small table and it was significantly quieter but there were a few obnoxious men near us that would not stop shouting. Luckily they left soon after. I would highly recommend asking for a table FAR in the back if you want a quiet, more intimate dinner. We started with drinks and their cajun wings. The wings were really great however I wish they would have served them with a side of buffalo sauce instead of ranch and barbeque sauce, I am sure if you asked they would bring it for you. We both ordered steak, rare. They were seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. Definitely good steak, no Fogo, but tasty. The side vegetable medley was also good. On the menu it said they were supposed to come with garlic, cheesy bread but we never got that... I guess we were both so focused on our huge steaks that we just completely forgot. After we housed the steaks I decided to throw all caution to the wind and get a dessert. I am a big fan of bread pudding and white chocolate raspberry is my favorite flavor combination so I figured the white chocolate bread pudding would be perfection. It wasn't. And I was sad. The bread to filling ratio was off, most of it was dry, and there were only like 8 raspberries total. Pretty disappointing. The service was great, the food (minus the dessert) was good, the atmosphere was fairly nice. I would go to JD Hoyt's again but probably only for drinks and appetizers. I'm sticking to Fogo for steak. I tried, but really it just didn't compare.
