$1.99 early bird breakfast. (I'd like to leave that first sentence as my entire review, but I will elaborate) Ok, I've only eaten the $1.99 breakfast, so keep in mind that is the only thing I am talking about and its hard to screw up. What is the $1.99 breakfast? Well, it goes from 6:00am-8:30am (not sure if its on the weekends) and its 2 eggs, a nice portion of hashbrowns or American fries and pancakes (or toast). You can get free onions on the hashbrowns, too. I know, breakfast is like the easiest meal to make, but I voted this place so high because the portions are good, the food is tasty, the food comes out fast, and the bill is cheap. And they are VERY good at refilling coffee cups.

If you need a place for breakfast or brunch there is no better place than Curran's! It's going to busy, and it might take awhile, but hopefully your with good company or you're not in a rush. Trust me though the food is worth it!

It is what it is: a decent neighborhood restaurant with a great staff and good food. Get there early enough and you'll get two eggs, hash browns and toast or pancakes for less than the price of an eggamuffin at Mickey D's. Get there a little later and it's still cheaper (and way better) than Mickey D's. The coffee's OK, not great, but it has caffeine in it so it's good enough for a guy like me. My biggest gripe with the place is that they always put about a stick of butter on my pancakes and I can never find a place to dump the excess. Here's me--complaining about getting too much of something at a restaurant. Whiner.

Great breakfast place in South Minneapolis. Everything on the menu was less than $7, which explains why most customers were better than 70 years old. Senior's always seem to know the best deals in town. There is a ton of space, so even when there is a line, it moves very quickly. The booths are also very large, so there is plenty of room for your plates and to sprawl out. The chicken sausage links are amazing. It is nice that there are still some old fashioned places in hipster Minneapolis.

Doing early errands in the dark earns me the right to a hot and filling breakfast, right? I have driven by Currans countless times, usually on my way to the Kingfield Farmers Markets and have noticed the sign outside heralding their early bird breakfast special of two eggs, potatoes and pancakes or toast for $1.99 before 8:30 am. Why not give it a go? Seating was open so I grabbed a small booth. The wait staff were moving all over the place and before you know it I was asked if I would like some coffee and bam there it was along with some ice water. A few moments later the waitress was back to take my order. I opted for the special and was asked if I would like onions on my hashbrowns (nice touch), why of course! Everything came out exactly as ordered and was good. I wouldn't have minded a little color on the onions on the potatoes, but for the price I really can't complain. My coffee was continuously refilled without asking, again, another nice touch. I can see why Curran's has a loyal following. Nothing like a good sturdy breakfast at a very reasonable price!

Curran's came to our rescue. There were 15 of us trying to find a brunch place on Mother's Day. Fortunately, they were pretty much the only place willing to take us. We had to wait about 30 minutes but that wasn't bad considering our poor planning. Their food is typical breakfast/diner fare but I liked the family feel. I'm pretty sure the guy who sat us was Mr. Curran himself. I had the Ham Zinger....which was ham, hash browns, eggs, and Hollaindaise. I liked it and would probably order it again.

Good food, good service and good atmosphere. We are always seated promptly and get the food in a reasonable amount of time. I would recommend the steak and eggs, which is served all day, or the ruben. Top it off with a great assortment of pie at the end. They do their American, family style restaurant thing well.

Went for lunch, typical family restaurant. Don't expect to get blown away by the food, but very reasonably priced and the $1 pie is great.

Curran's has been our go-to place when work or schedules just can't get dinner on the table! It has a Ma and Pa atmosphere with comfort food to fill us up on a cold night. It's not gourmet, it's basic American cuisine and that is perfect for a family of four on a tight budget. Everyone finds what they need and we do not lose our shirts enjoying a meal out! I love that the people working there are friendly and almost small town like. It has a neighborhood diner feel to it. Oh! And they excel on early, inexpensive, yummy fulfilling breakfasts too!!

So what is the most disappointing is that this place is so close to my house and I will probably never go there unless my parents are in town. I have to say this... It is not horrible food and I have not had horrible service. There were no bugs or mice or anything unkept about the place. It is just a Perkins with a different name on it. The food is bland and boring. The patrons are not young or hip. The décor matches the patrons. This place is crazy busy on the weekends, which does surprise me, so getting a parking spot in the lot can be difficult, but street parking on 42nd is available.

I hadn't been to Curran's in years before last week. It hasn't changed. It remains a solid, reasonably priced choice for good food and friendly service. I had a 1/3 lb. Swiss Cheese and Mushroom burger well worth the tab. The fries were OK and the side of coleslaw was sweat and creamy. I topped things off with a decent slice of pie for a buck. I'll take the menu at a local place like this over the unifood turned out at the big chain restaurants any day.

It's been awhile since my last review and since then have tried the Hamburger with Homemade Coleslaw and I was very impressed, especially the coleslaw! Breakfast is still great but I now think of those burgers and coleslaw as well when thinking Currans!

Feel like home cook food. This is a family own restaurant, and I notice more of them are regular local customer. Order their recommended Pot Roast, and it really taste great!! Did not have change to try their pies, but I will definite try their breakfast in my next visit as many people recommend here in Yelp.

Yummy! Cute little family breakfast. The saki bloody Mary's were so good. The chocolate chip cookie was melt in your mouth. Kids had the chicken tender meal and they loved. I thought this would be a breakfast only place but all of our food was really good.

I have been here twice . I had a Ruben the first time and it was not very good and I had a French dip the second time and that was worse . The Ruben was greasy and soggy and the French dip on the menu says it is beef that is roasted daily and it is really some meat out of a packet that is super salty and chinsy on the meat . I complained and they gave me more meat , but I wouldn't go here again. The sandwiches are around $8 and they charge extra for fries . So it's about 10 bucks and not worth it . They really need to step up their game and bring up the quality of food .

I had lived in this neighborhood for 7 years and this was "the place" to go for that "had a little too much to drink on Friday night" Saturday morning breakfast. My mom loves this place and every time she was over, we hit good ole Currans. It's really the perfect hole in the wall place. Their menu contains many, many perfect comfort food. Hot and fresh to made. Awesome omelettes and other breakfast items. The staff is usually really busy; however, I feel like I have always been taken care of. It has a little of everything for anybody in the party. Most of the times I go, it has been busy and the parking lot can be a little tight. There is plenty of parking on the street. You might just need to be a little patient if someone is trying to get out and you stuck waiting for them, there isn't a ton of space to maneuver. Definitely a neighborhood staple. Great comfort food, good service, rustic atmosphere. No fuss, no muss, come as you are and they will take care of your comfort food cravings!

I eat breakfast at Curran's a couple of times a week and my experience is amazingly consistent. The service is outstanding. The food is always great and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Dennis and his staff work very hard at delivering this experience but somehow make it look easy. The $1.99 special is the best value in town!

Best breakfast in town!! Their orange juice is always fresh squeezed and unbelievably delicious, the hollandaise sauce can't be beat, and the caramel rolls are to die for. It doesn't get any better. I always order the Ham Dinger. Very inexpensive and always great service from a family owned place that's been around for ever.

I love Curran's. My family has been eating here since it was a drive in in the 50's. My Mom and her siblings went to school with the Curran kids (who now run the place) and I went to school with their kids. This is the epitome of a neighborhood family joint. Comfort food that's been the same since I was a little girl (in the 80's) and I imagine long before that. This place is nothing special, and that's exactly why it is. Are you broke? Are you hungry? There are 2 things on the menu over $15. One includes a full rack of ribs, the other, a T-bone steak. Legit sandwich menu - the usual suspects including a really great Ruben and a Monte Cristo (not something you see every day anymore in this world of trumped up treats). Stuff your grandma ma(kes)de like Pot Roast and Liver and Onions - Waffles and Omlettes. Also, save room for pie. Best banana cream pie in town. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can get a slice for $1. Tip your waitress. Some of them have been working here since I was a kid.

I came in to have a nice meal about a week ago and the service was awful. The only bright side was the lovely host who actually ended up being my server since the real server didn't even bother to notice me. The food tasted okay, but service! If the host hadn't been kind enough to go the extra mile I think I would have just walked out. There's also a strange cigarette smell that lingers in the room--if you're sensitive to those smells I suggest staying away.

Stumbled upon this little diner/coffee shop on our way to a Sunday morning appointment. Great breakfast at a great price...$1.99 egg/potato/toast special if you order before 8:30am! My create-your-own omelet was perfect, and my husband loved his breakfast burrito. We haven't eaten there beyond breakfast, but the dinner menu looks promising. Comfort food with comfortable pricing.

Love the breakfast here. This is my second time here. I come when my wife runs the Minneapolis Twin Cities Marathon. I drop her off at the start and come here to fuel up and kill some time. Before going to see her somewhere between miles 6-8. The food is great American Diner food. I had a drink, 2 eggs, Bacon, Hash Browns, Toast and a Pancake for under $8 bucks. Delightful staff and easy parking. Who can argue!

Reasonable. We had breakfast which was a bit on the greasy side. Probably not a bad neighborhood restaurant but not a destination for a meal out.

BRUNCH ME. This place is the bomb diggity for an inexpensive classic diner breakfast. Despite the massive crowds of elderly folks wheeling and dealing in here, the service and breakfast food is top notch. So when you wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy, order the #1 with a bottomless cup of coffee. No regrets, just love. Highlights: BREAKFAST Curran's Family Restaurant = Good Morning!

In a way, I really enjoy the unpretentious, classic family restaurant. A few times a month we swing in for a pancake breakfast with my daughter and its always a good time. Prices are very good. My daughter and I often go for the early bird breakfast and we both have a nice breakfast for only about $7 total! The food is decent. Its hard to go wrong with pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. Stray too farmfrom the basics though and you'll start to see the quality go down. I've learned to avoid the biscuits and gravy, since the biscuits taste like they've been in the fridge for a few days and the gravy tastes like it came from a jar. Still, most of the food is fine. That said, the service sometimes requires patience. Some friends and I stopped in for a late night slice of pie and coffee just a few nights ago and found ourselves waiting a good 15 minutes for our pies to be brought out (its not like they had to go back and bake it or something).

Food took over 45 minutes to come out and I only ordered 2 eggs, bacon and sausage. Really? And the food was mediocre at best and the order wasn't even right.

Based on the reviews, this looked like the exact place I was looking for to substitute for my little hometown diner I left behind in NY, and for the most part, it was. Why the 2 stars, you ask? Well I'll tell you... Our service was....well....kind of nonexistent. We had a young man who was very polite at first. For the beginning 20 minutes or so I absorbed the quiet atmosphere and cleanliness of the establishment with anticipation of how great our meal was going to be. This guy ruined it for me. We get our main course after a normal waiting time, and then three other guys come in and sit down across the room from us. Now, please keep in mind that the restaurant was NOT packed. Not even close. There was maybe 5 tables being occupied. It was a very quiet evening. So our waiter goes over and starts to get real chummy with the guys who just came in. In a very gay way. Not an insult, totally relevant. They were obviously flirting back and forth, and thus our service suffered. As in it ceased to be. No refills on our drinks. No check up during our meal. Even a few passes by us after 20 minutes of our plates being cleaned and not even a "hello." All because he was spending every 5 minutes of his time flirting with the table across the way. No, he wasn't the only waiter working and no, there wasn't many people there. There's no reason to be completely ignored for 35 minutes after you've finished your meal. I had heard how great the pie was.....never got to have any, since our waiter didn't offer it to us. Don't get me wrong, the prices are fabulous and the food is o-kay. But I could get better service and better food at Olive Garden than I got at this place.

Old school family diner. It doesn't seem like much has changed here in 30 years which gives it the old diner feel. The food is good for the price and a morning special of $1.99 for 2 eggs, meat (bacon, sausage) and starch (toast, hash browns), and $1 pie even a poor college kid can afford a good breakfast. I personally go here when I want a no-frills breakfast and for the Hamdinger.

This review is only for the pie. Apparently 7 PM to close is prime time for pie! You can get a slice for $1! We wandered over here after eating dinner at the Lowbrow a few blocks away. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful. We asked if we could take the pie to go and he was absolutely delighted. He promptly wrapped up 3 slices and off we went. The pie isn't necessarily the best I've ever had but you can't beat the price at $1. I highly recommend you stop in, get some pie, and enjoy it at home with someone special.

I have been going to Curran's since 1987. It's the restaurant I associate with "comfort food." The atmosphere is really welcoming -- it reminds me of a small-town restaurant. The servers are always really friendly and polite. The food portions are generous, and everything I've eaten there has been delicious. Their pie is wonderful, and they have a special every day where you can get a slice of pie for $1.00. It's only during certain hours, but it's worth it. If you're looking for a tasty meal with very reasonable prices, give Curran's a try. It's not flashy, it's not gimmicky, it's just good food.

We came to Curran's with the intent of having a cheap, diner experience. And we got it. It wasn't a terrible experience, it's just that Curran's didn't exceed any expectations. The food was pretty bland -- but again, we had that thought that it would. Think "family owned Perkins."

A great spot to take the parents for breakfast on the weekend. An even better spot to take yourself when you're hankering a little comfort food. Curran's has been in the neighborhood since 1948, starting out as a carhop drive-in and evolving over time into the 140+ seat restaurant that stands today. That family touch infuses the atmosphere, and draws in the locals as easily for meatloaf dinner as it does for coffee and pie. The food is just what you'd expect from the description: home-style cooking, healthy portions, and plenty of long-tenured waitresses to take good care of you. Pancakes, hashbrowns and eggs just the way you like them for breakfast. Or stop by for dinner and grab the blue plate special--hot turkey sandwich with potatoes and gravy, or a nice serving of fish and chips at Lent. Parking can be a little tight during busy times, so drop off the folks and find a spot in the neighborhood to reduce some close-encounter anxiety.

Yes you can get a saki mary here but this is still not my favorite breakfast joint in uptown. Try the ham dinger. It's yummy. I also can't compain about the service--it's fast. I'm just not a huge fan of the eggs or the atmosphere.

Good news, south Minneapolis: Curran's BLT doesn't skimp on the bacon! I went there for lunch and the soup and salad and pie. (Everyone in the dining room had the pie. You need to have the pie.) It's the kind of place my grandparents would have gone out to breakfast--friendly and unassuming with darn good food.

I have been to Currans many times over the years. It is a family eaterie, one that is not too loud. The food is normally rather tasty and in many ways "family style." We just recently started going for the pie and to sit and chat. Today the pie was totally different, not sweet the way it should be. I had Banana Creme and my friend had Apple Pie, both of which were not sweet. The waiter said whosoever opens up makes the pies and the manager said the same person bakes -makes the pies and only had l day off and today was not the day. Who is telling the truth? I believe the waitress because we told her first. It only cost $1.00 so no big loss, however the attitude of the mgr. in not at least recognizing something was not quite right causes us to realize he doesn't care. It is probably because they have their regular clientele and many of them can't do sugar (the Seniors) but come mon and fix it, don't allow your rep. to go down as not having good pie. We may try at least once more to see if it is fixed.

Stopped in here for lunch. No surprises - it is your classic American comfort food diner menu (i.e. though not a Greek Diner - so gyro, no souvlaki etc). Ordered the Rueben with corned beef, sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese on dark rye with a side of 1000 Island dressing - plus side of french fries. The corned beef was tender and flavorful - and Rueben was packed with sauerkraut. Totally yummy. Fries were good too. Basic beers for $3.05 and fancy beers (e.g. Fat Tire) for $3.35. Combine all this with free WIFI @ 3 MBPS DL - you can't go wrong. Looking forward to returning one Sunday morning for corned beef hash. (Did not try the pies - but they were flying out the door - so next time will plan accordingly.)

I can't help but love Curran's. They give you HUGE amount of food for a very decent price. It's a family place - great for kids. Very homey feel. Not the type of place to go crazy and party @ but if you want to relax in quiet with good food, it's a great place to stop by.

This is a very good restaurant for american comfort food. Me and my family have been going here for years. They have great ( and inexpensive) breakfasts, lunches and dinners. There desserts are also really good, try their cookies or pies if you go there. My personal favorite is their banana cream pie.The staff is always friendly and helpful.
