I had a Italian beef sandwich with mozzarella and hot peppers. AWESOME! We will be back soon.

This is the place to get real Vienna beef hot dogs severed on heavenly poppy seed buns or mouthwatering Italian beef on tasty Gonnella bread. As others have observed, you can't go wrong with either. However the fries are adequate and the cheese sauce is bland, so stick a plain jane sandwich or dog. IMO both the dogs and beef stand on their own wonderfully. Or for full affect you can act like you are visiting the windy city and get some of their killer peppers and/or relish on your eats. Where else can you pig out on authentic Chicago style grub while paying homage to Walter Payton and have a picture of Mike Ditka giving you the finger out of the corner of your eye?

I have not found too many places in Minneapolis where you can order a pizza puff, so this place gets top marks just for that. It was perfect and delivered right to my door. It does not beat the $2.50 pizza puff, fries, and soda combo that I love so much after a long night out in Chicago, but fulfills the craving until I can get back to Chicago.

Great food. Dogs are obvious, but don't overlook sandwiches and pizza. WiFi is brilliant.

I went the first day they opened in St Paul, and didn't have cash. They gave me an Italian Beef on them! Very nice. It wasn't my cup of tea though-maybe no Italian Beef would be. I don't really like soggy bread.

it is OK. Nothing special, that is for sure. Price is a bit high. Pizza is good. Again, everything is decent, but nothing to knock your socks off and the price is high.

Service is great. Food is great. Price is great. Atmosphere is right for the menu. Location, for me, is not ideal as it's in random residential south Mpls. off Hiawatha (55) very near the light rail line. Last time I went, I had a chicago dog, cheese fries, a can of soda, and a piece of sausage pizza. The dog was awesome. The fries were a little fat/thick but had a tastey seasoning with melted processed cheese. Delicious! The pizza was also very good. It's not the best in the twin cities but VERY good and by the slice. Know, if you live in the neighborhood, that they deliver. Also, they only take cash. Also, it's small and can be very packed!

I think this place is ok, but 4 stars because my SO LOVES it. Lol. Pizza is good and my SO likes the mini donuts, too.

A Chicago hometown favorite meal craving satisfied!Over and Over!!! Aftet the first visited I was hooked. The hotdogs/polishes are great the Italian Beef and the Italian Beef with sausage are the best I've had since home! The meat is perfectly tender the bread is always fresh & imported from the city! The taters are amazing! The chilli cheese on hot dogs, fries, tater are a must try. You can't go wrong, but easily hooked into the awesome tastes of Chicago!

What you'd expect. Great greasy ass Chicago food. Tastes great. I especially like their Italian Beef sandwich. Add mozzarella cheese and peppers and its a masterpiece. Staff is sometimes a bit rude or clearly frustrated. However, their delivery drivers have always seemed to be quite polite. All in all, great food. The staff just needs to work on their people skills and be a bit more hospitable.

The dogs are good. But the owner is a d bag. Very rude to his safe. I was in there once and he was talking down to a lying Mexican kid working there. It was terrible. Dude a jerk and they will never get a cent from me Plus it ain't like real dogs in Chicago. Trust me!!

Love this neighborhood gem! I've been stopping here for years and have consistently experienced great service and delicious food. Of course the hot dogs are wonderful, but the Italian beef sandwiches are top notch too. Chris & Rob's is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood.

Solid Chicago hot dog, pretty good chili-cheese dog and a good Italian beef! I got a cheesy beef sandwich which is the best I've ever had while being in Minneapolis! Next time I'm going to ask for it dipped. Prices are fair and the owner was awesome! He is actually from Chicago and knew a ton of stuff about Chicago restaurants! He was really friendly and we enjoyed talking to him while we waited for our order. We took our food to go but I'm looking forward to going back and eating in. There is a lot of Chicago memorabilia that I want to take a closer look at the next time we stop in. I know that will be soon because there are lots of items on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying! Mmmm...hot dogs are so good!!!

After a day of golf on Sunday after the 4th of July, stopped in to get my fix of italian beef & sausage sandwiches. Add the cheddar and hot peppers, you won't regret it. The sandwiches were awesome. Some of the best I've had outside of Chicago. I also picked up a prime rib sandwich and chili cheese fries to go. I was expecting the fries to be soggy by the time I got home, but they were surprisingly crisp and the chili and cheese used were delicious. Great stuff guys, keep up the good work!

I've been here many times over the years, even back when it was Joey D's. The food as been consistent, tasty and fresh. They have everything from chili cheese dogs (my favorite), Italian Beef sammies, Chicago style dogs, chicken wings, gyros, burgers and pizza. Unfortunately it's not Chicago style deep dish pizza but am wiling to forget that as the pizza they do make is pretty good too. The menu is pretty large and with the exception of the pizza the food is generally ready within 5 minutes. The chili cheese dogs are loaded with chili, onions and cheese, so much so you almost need a fork to finish all the goodness. Tater tots have an option of a seasoned sour cream that's worth the additional charge. They fill their Italian beef sandwiches with so much meat it overflows the roll. Get it with mozzarella.....just saying. The chicken wings are actually parts of the wing but have a good rub or seasoning on them. I haven't gotten around to trying the burgers yet.

Came here for lunch, order a chicago dog, italian sausage and tater tots with cheese and a soda. Came out to $18 w/o tip.... (and yes, you should tip the guy taking your order and making your food) The chicago dog itself was pretty small but delicious, the italian was huge. There was no point in trying to shove it into a bun. The place was clean but pretty empty during lunch time. I've got something negative to say about this place. Had a great experience. I would come back again. I just hope this place stays open long enough for me to come back...

Great place to stop if you're in the mood for a hot dog. Large outdoor seating area. Fully loaded Chicago dog is a must try. The tator tots are awesome too. Looking forward to finally trying some of their pizza!

The Food is usually Excellent, However the bitchin' Chicken Wings were awful. They were undercooked and had some blood near the bones. They also tasted weird. They need to be cooked longer and they need to come up with a new recipe. HOWEVER The Cheesy Beef with peppers was delicious! Next time I'll make sure to get it with cheddar. But still, so good! The Fries were good. My brother got the California Burger and he loved it. My mom tried the Cheesy Beef with Cheddar, no peppers and she loved her sandwich. There are a few other sandwiches I can't wait to try. They might want to rethink some of the side dishes.

This was one of the best sandwiches I've had. Probably one of the best meals I've had while in Minnesota. I had the sausage and beef combo which was the best of both worlds. It was spicy but not crazy to remove the taste and flavor.

The best Chicago Beef and Hot Dog place outside of Chicago itself. Get the beef with polish combo and your stomach will thank you. Your heart won't, as you can feel your arteries clog, but that's a small price to pay for a taste of Chicago right in Minneapolis. Hang out and try to beat my record on Big Buck Hunter of you dare!

Hubby had to have a hot dog, I mean c'mon it is the 4th of July. We googled, we yelped. We decided this would be the place. It's a total fast food joint with a patio. Mike ordered the Chicago Dog with fries and I being the healthy eater just went with the chicken breast sandwich. It was very reasonable, inexpensive to be quite honest. Food gets delivered to the table and I realized there were no condiments on the table. I was instructed that I would need to go inside to get my ketchup. Mike said that his Chicago Dog was okay. My chicken breast tasted that it was originally frozen. The flavor was not great. Really boring even with the seasoning they sprinkled on it. I will say this, the fries were perfect. We took the scenic route home and by scenic I mean, he drove through McDonalds cause he was still hungry. Probably a fun place ton run in with the kids. Affordable and quick. We wouldn't go back but hey, it was an adventure

As long as weather permits, I always hit here for my Chicago dog and polish dog fix. There just the perfect mixture of meat to vegetable ratio in both dogs. I just wish we had Chris and Rob's back in Los Angeles.

Uhh I hate to write it - but the truth is the burger I ordered was very mediocre. Salty on a wonder bun... at least that's what it tasted like. If you're not into healthy eating - you will have no problem grubbing out. Maybe I should've went for the hot dog. :)

2nd time here and worst than the first. Its in my neighborhood and I love Chicago theme hot dog joints. Its dirty, the service and time it takes to get food is awful. My wife got the dog and she said never again. I had the italian beef and it was gross. I went back and took my brother in law because like I said I like these types of places. We both had a burger for $4.99, nothing comes with it and it was just a precooked burger that had been nuked. It wasn't even hot. What the hell am I waiting for? 1 order of fries that was super small and $15 later I'm burping up this crap. I could have gone to Burger King and had better, I don't like fast food places though. Most of these places that serve the Vienna Beef are good. They open a place like that because they enjoy the food and types of people that come in. The Vienna Beef is standard and its a turn key operation but you have to care a little bit. Most of the places like this have a signature thing like chili or slaw. I can get Vienna Beef all over town, no problem. I could probably get it without the crap service, dirty location, high prices and the rest of the people who frequent this place. You've got nothing I can't get somewhere else. Stop advertising you're just wasting the money.

So I grew up in Chicago and I LOVE to eat ... so I consider myself an expert in this arena ;-). This place was darn good. I had Italian beef/sausage combo and the onion rings and it was good. My wife got a hot dog and she was happy too. We moved here a few months ago and I'm very happy to know that anytime I get homesick and have a hankerin for Italian Beef I have a place to go! As a matter of fact ... I think I'm due.

My daughter was at Children's Hospital back in March of 2013. The hospital gave us a ton of menus to order food from. We were in such a daze we couldn't remember where it was from so I actually had to look back on my statement from then. AWESOME food, great service. The wings are what I'm craving, yum!!!!

I'm a Chicago-area native, and Chris & Rob's remnds me of places I where I used to eat as a kid. You can get a proper Chicago dog and Italian Beef - both of which are pretty good. Lots of Chicago stuff on the walls - newspaper covers, sports posters, etc. I love coming here when I need a reminder of home!

I ordered food for delivery. Thought the prime rib sandwich and tator tots were great. After ordering for the 4th or 5th time in just a couple weeks, the "gravy" for my sandwich was missing. The driver was real hesitant but said he would bring it after making a couple deliveries. After he left I noticed that I was also charged for something I didn't order. I called to let them know. The guy I talked to was very unfriendly. He also told me that the driver would not be back with my gravy because they got too busy. I really didn't enjoy my dry sandwich. He did tell me that they would give me a free gravy next time I ordered. After talking to him I decided I wouldn't order from them anymore, But, I broke down and ordered one more time. I reminded him about the gravy. He was rude and I don't know if it was the same guy that delivered the food but he was really not friendly also. I don't care how good the food is. If the service is crappy, I won't do business with them. Reading some of the other reviews, it seems that this is common practice there.

Terrific neighborhood style eatery that specializes in Chicago style hot dogs but also serves pizza, meat ball sandwiches, Italian sandwiches, spaghetti and much more. Be sure to check out their side dishes, fried ravioli, breaded mushrooms, shrimp, onion rings, etc., - and the fries are among the best in town (unless you like nasty skinny fries). We had a terrific hot dog with veggies and a fine meatball sandwich and shared a large order of fries. Total bill with a soda - about $16.50. Everything appears to be served in plastic baskets but the forks, etc, were real silverware. This is a place your order at the counter and they'll bring it to your booth/table. Inexpensive and friendly service. Delivery, takeout and patio service. Kid friendly. We are coming back.

Out of all the places around town that have Chicago Dog options, I have found that this is hands down the tastiest! My only gripe would be the sides appear to be way overpriced, as a rather small serving of cheese curds are $5.99. You could certainly get away with sub $10 meal here, though I had to give it two $$, as 2 dogs, a side, and drink easily put you at $15.

Vienna Beef hotdogs, poppy seed buns, and neon green relish, what else do you want in a hotdog shop. When I asked them to drag it through the garden I got exactly that. French fries are out of this world. I wasn't impressed with the beef sandwich as it wasn't hot enough to melt the cheese I requested. Never had the pizza and don't plan on considering there is a Chicago Original all ready in town. You'll figure it out.

We've been to the Chris & Rob's on 7th Street in Saint Paul and thought we'd give this location a try. We found it to be very similar to the Saint Paul location -- good in a pinch if you are craving a Chicago dog or beef sandwich. I think what I'd say is it's "totally passable." It will take care of your craving and is generally decent food. We ordered a cheesy beef (Italian beef sandwich with cheez wiz basically). It was very tasty, with the roll good and soaked in juice. The peppers on top were great. In all really fine and satisfying for that beef sandwich urge. Is it Portillo's? No. But will definitely help you scratch that itch if you don't want to drive to Chicago. My husband ordered a thin-crust pizza which was kind of the same -- decent and passable but not amazing. Thin and crackery, but the cheese was kind of rubbery and I felt like the toppings were just OK. We still like the pie at Aurellio's better if you are looking for Chicago style thin-crust. The restaurant was bigger than the 7th Street store, and the decor was older but clean and well-maintained. The front desk staff was friendly enough but it did kind of irk me that there was one employee camped out at a table in the dining room while we ate, I think with her boyfriend. Other pet peeves: no fries with the sandwiches, you have to order separate. No meal option even. And there were no lids for the soda cups, which I found odd. In all, a decent stop for some Chicago-style food. Ample street parking and some nice patio seating, though we chose to eat indoors today.

I was really craving wings and was told to go to Chris & Rob's. No wings at all. I ordered a chicken sandwich instead and received what seemed to be a frozen chicken breast that was microwaved. No grill marks at all and it was gray. The fries were good. The place is no frills and not exactly the friendliest. Will never go back.

Quite possibly my favorite casual restaurant in the Twin Cities. While the Chicago dogs are a masterpiece, don't miss the Italian beef sandwich. I prefer the hot peppers on it (which aren't Minnesota hot... they have a kick), but sweet peppers are available. Also, skip the chili-cheese fries (which are really good)...instead, go for the chili-cheese tater tots. The only thing there that I can't recommend is their pizza. It's average at best. But I haven't found anything else on the menu that isn't top drawer! And if you're a north-metro dweller, don't miss their Fridley location on East River Road (behind the old McGlynn's Bakery factory).

This is a joint. Plain and simple. You want a lot o' meat and your soda in a can, this is your place. I had the classic Italian Cheesy Beef w/ Mozzarella & a combo of sweet and hot peppers. It was thick, greasy, messy and really good. My brother-in-law had the Chicago Dog and found it very tasty. We split a large basket of classic Tater Tots and left bursting at the seams. This is the kind of place that actually grows better in memory. My arteries couldn't take making this a routine stop. But I've developed a craving to go back for another fix.

As much as I would like to give a good rating, the experiences we have had the last few times have not been pleasant. The most recent order took over an hour for delivery and by the time we received it the entire order was cold. Very disappointing service. I love wings, but Chris and Rob's are just too salty. Now they switched to individual wings instead of the whole wings they once offered. I believe they even charge the same price for less wings now. The pizza is good, but not enough to save my business. With other better offerings around the neighborhood like the young guys at Parkway Pizza (their pizza is awesome and try their homemade sausage), it will be a long time before we order from Chris and Rob's again. Even Carbone's is a better option. Decent pizza, average hot dogs, and fried foods plus very spotty customer service.

I like the nice sized patio area. The table and seating is attached and nice and sturdy. The tables are just as well stocked as inside. There's a lot of room inside, but it doesn't have the coziness of the St. Paul location. I just got a hotdog with mustard. I never took to all the junk of the Chicago style. I wanted to sample the wings. They are a dry rub. Kind of medium size. They are tasty enough, but nothing I would see anyone getting addicted to.It kind of reminded me of how much I miss Shorty and Wags, that everybody was addicted to. A nice location, without a lot of competition of anything. Plenty of street parking. I'll stay on my side of the river for my dawg, though.

It is what it is, which is either your favorite thing on the planet, or it's not. For me, this does the trick for those rare times I'm Chicago dog nostalgic, complete with insane neon salad and celery salt, like it should be. Dining companion got beef, wet, giardiniera, cheese - and it showed up perfectly according to him, so they definitely do "get it" behind the counter. The inside is a little grimy for local standards, but for Chicago Vienna Beef joint standards it's SPOTLESS (Chicago transplants will agree) , so that's exciting. Nice counter, mellow and nice patio. Cheese sauce is the only letdown, save yourself the empty cals - fries are worth it, cheese fries are not. I can't imagine bothering with anything other than Italian Beef, polish, or other sausage type items. The Gyro isn't Kronos, but Greek Delight or some such - immediate avoid, in my opinion.

  • Nazgul W.

Chris and Rob's is very handy in a pinch, but the food is not very fresh or made from scratch. The biggest drawback: HIGH PRICES. There's no way you should expect to pay over $10 for this stuff. No way. Unfortunately, spending much more than what it's worth is virtually guaranteed here. The Italian beef is pretty decent; it's good with cheese and hot peppers. But unless that will fill you up, you're liable to order a side and then need a drink. Next thing you know you're up to $10. That is really not the kind of price that you would want for food that is OK but is very unhealthy and really just not worth the cost. They do the dogs and sausages pretty well, I'll give them that. There aren't a ton of places that do those things well in Mpls. However, most of the stuff here feels like they just pulled it out of a freezer and fried it. The fries, tots, ravioli bites, virtually all of the sides are OK but probably out of a box. The cheese sauce is adequate but you literally feel like you're eating artery-clogger. The gyro is absolutely disgusting. They should just strike it from the menu because they have no idea what they're doing with that. I have not tried the pizza but I believe I had a burger once and it brings up bad connotations. The decor is decent with Chicago-sports stuff but then the back room inexplicably honors NASCAR, which really doesn't mean 'Chicago' to me. Overall this place is all right for a quick bite if you need something to fill you up but the prices are ridiculous for what you get. It's faux-Chicago but you'll pay through the nose for it. I'm willing to pay when things are good enough to merit the price, but it does not add up here.

This place has become our go-to pizza delivery place, but it's not amazing pizza. Appreciate the coupons which they provide and come with the local paper on a regular basis. Out-of-town guests seem to like this pizza more than we do. My complaint would be with the crust - thin, which I prefer, but cardboardy. Still searching for delivered pizza that rates 5 stars...

  • Kohleen L.

Ok, so I'm not from Chicago...but I will admit I AM a hot dog snob! The BF and I traveled the streets of Chicago in search of the best hot dog, and now we've moved on to the streets of Minneapolis. I've visited Chris & Rob's 3 or 4 times now, and so far they aren't at the top of the list, but they aren't half bad. I always get a Chicago dog, and the BF usually opts for a chili dog, plus we often split an Italian beef sandwich (sans cheese) with hot peppers. The dogs are decent, but seem to lack something. I can't quite pinpoint it--maybe they just aren't as full-flavored as others I've had, or maybe the toppings aren't as good. The Italian beef is good, maybe a little on the salty side, and smaller than at most places (and smaller than I remember it being on previous visits). The hot peppers are HOT, just like I like em, and the fries are pretty standard (no seasoning, not super crispy or soggy). All in all, I still have to say that Uncle Franky's has the best Chicago dogs in Minneapolis, but whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I swing by Chris and Rob's for my Chicago-style fix. I might visit a little more often if they put the White Sox on the TV instead of the Twins though! :)

If you want the absolute best Chicago style beef sandwich in MN, then go to Chris & Robs. I've tried other places in the metro area and none are as good as them. The sandwiches aren't as big as they used to be unfortunately, but still have the best taste. The fries are delicious also. The only I don't give them a 5th star is because the sandwiches are smaller nowadays.

Ok so I used to live in Chicago and ate a lot of Italian Beef . Ive tried Al's, Portillo's, Joe Boston's ,Torre's and a few others. Chris and Rob's Italian beef tastes ok... I doubt they make it on there own beef, it's probably pre packaged Scala's... Anyway it good enough in a pinch!

  • Jackie R.

I have mixed feelings about Chris and Robs. I love their pizza, it's really great. They also have really good onion rings. The hot dogs, however, are nothing special. They didn't taste anything like any dog I'd ever got in Chicago. I just don'tt hink the hotdog should be so soft. It should be a little crispy or something and it should snap when you eat it. These give about as much snap factor as a piece of corn chip that sat in the nacho cheese too long. Other toppings were good, but beware that if you ask for cheddar cheese on your dog (or burger for that matter) you will get cheese sauce a la that nacho machine at SuperAmerica. It's not horrible, but it just doesn't seem right. Maybe I've had too many hotdogs in my life to compare these with but I'm not even kidding when I say the dogs we got at 7-11 in Chicago were better than these. They do have good pizza, and they have some great appetizers, such as the onion rings, and those are the things that will keep bringing me back in here. As for hotdogs?...I will just have to keep searching.

We made an effort to get in tot he 5-8 Club on New Year's Day and it was a mess so we decided to head elsewhere for something to eat. After cruisin' along 55 I got a hit on my GPS for this place. Being a fan of Chicago cuisine, we decided to check it out. This place does a great job of delivering the Chicago standards. Hot dogs, pizzas and italian beef. These are not high-brow items but this place does a good job of adhering to the preparation of food and atmosphere that most people would enjoy if they were in Chicago. After requesting a recommendation from the proprietor he suggested an Italian Beef with peppers and cheese. The delivery on was on par with every other Italian Beef I have had in the Chicago areas. Specialty roll, thinly sliced beef and the gravy. Solid. The tater tots were seasoned with a unique coating as well, and I enjoyed being able to watch the Northwestern bowl game in the company of some Chicago natives. Clean, courteous and fast service. It's not a 5-star venue, but this place delivers on the Chicago standards. If I lived in the MInneapolis area I would frequent this place when I had a hankering for any of the classic foods from the Windy City.

Overpriced average food. The hot dogs are the main attraction and they are above average, not spectacular. However, when you order other menu items other than the hot dogs, you're in for a disappointment. My wife and two young boys went to this location after a T-ball game and were surprised at the total cost for the food and the mediocre results. Little better than average onion rings cost $6 and the "kid's" pasta item was a joke. Nothing more than spaghetti noodles with Velveeta cheese sauce on top. This was my first and last visit to this establishment. You're better served at other neighborhood restaurants in this area.

Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I will stop for a Maxwell st Polish, or a beef. It's especially nice in the summer when you can sit outside. Simple food, decent prices, friendly faces. I like that you can get tatter-tots with the sour cream dip. Never had their pizza, but then I don't go to hotdog joints for pizza; for that, I go to pizza joints

  • Lesli R.

I'm here to tell you about the most blissful item on the menu. Sure, it's a Chicago Dog joint. Sure, you can get one fine basket of cheese fries. But if you're looking at the menu, stop about half way down on the left and order the Italian Beef--and prepare for your moment of zen. Piping hot and piled high on fresh Turano bread, this sliced beef sandwich will have you licking your fingers and picking through the wrapper in the bottom of the basket to make sure you didn't miss a morsel. Top it off with hot giardenera peppers and a side of au jus, and you'll be sucking on your shirt sleeve for the drippings the rest of the night. You can't go wrong with anything you get here. Great menu, quick service, and these folks'll remember your name. Yum!

Yum. First off let me say that i'm not from chicago, meaning that I'm not a big blowhard hot dog snob who's going to quibble over whether or not the hot dogs are authentic enough. All I know is: 1) A pickle spear and celery salt (among other things) on a hot dog is genius and delicious. 2) They're nice. 3) They're having an all you can eat superbowl party which is cool even if you don't go. 4) I can eat 4 of their hotdogs in one sitting, with cheese fries. I am slowly eating my way through their menu. So far the Chicago dog is my favorite. The maxwell street polish is also good. The italian beef was a tad greasy for my tastes. Cheese fries are awesome. Next trip I'm all about the chili dogs. ps-Total cop hangout so try not to reek like ganja when you go to cure your munchies. Also, they deliver!

I like the Chicago dogs at this place. That really should read 3 & 1/2 stars, but whole stars only. I just cant give the fourth I prefer Uncle Franky's or the old Wienery (of 20 years ago -wouldnt eat there now). However, they are in the city and this is up North. Its a good quick bite on a lazy weekend.

The place to go for all American and unhealthy food. It's really great when you have a craving for a hot dog or a sandwich. Ate here many times and enjoyed the decent prices. I loved their chili cheese fries as they were just like at any stadium you go to. Cheddar sauce and chili.

I was a little disappointed from the get go. I came here on national hot dog night with their $0.05 hot dog special they advertised. I was hoping to eat 2 or 3 hot dogs for next to nothing but found out it's only 5 cents if you order a large fry/tots and drink. So it ends up being about normal price. Anyway, after a long bike ride, I wasn't going to turn down the deal. Misleading advertising aside, the food wasn't that great. The best part about the hot dog were the toppings. The dog itself is tiny, smaller than a ballpark frank you get at a grocery store. I was expecting more from a chicago eatery specializing in chicago dogs. The hot dog stand in Williams Bar has better chicago dogs than here. The tots were ok but you can't really screw that up. I probably won't be back, unless there's a no strings attached 5 cent hot dog special. Then maybe I'd reconsider...but probably not.

Not surprised at all that I've lived in Minneapolis all of my life and I've just heard about this place recently. The staff was nice, the decor was fun, and the place was busy with regulars. The food ehhh..... I had the chilli dog and ummm yeah I will never order that again. My fiance had a pizza puff and ummm yeah she will never order that again, my son had a meatball sandwhich which was the only thing tasty that night. I think we will go back and give the pizza a try and some other items on the menu, but thats a big MAYBE.

I love this place. Is it a cop restaurant? Yes Are you the only civilian having lunch there? Yes 2 Chicago Dogs with ALL the fixings, soda and fries for less than $10, while enjoying some sports on their projection screen? Definitely yes. Nothing fancy...but takes me back to my childhood.

Chris and Rob's provides a good second choice when our favoritest hot dog places are closed. We popped in after going to the elite event the other night, because who doesn't follow up oysters at Sea Change with Hot Dogs, a Burger and Cheese fries? Boy had a few Chicago dogs and cheese fries. I had a California burger and tots. The burger had good flavor, but was a little overcooked for my taste. The bun on the other hand was really good and sweet. The tots were also really tasty. My main complaint with this place in the past has been the amount of time we have had to wait, but on this visit we got our food pretty quickly. Maybe we will have to head back close to closing time all the time.

I love these divey little places. I ususally get the Italian beef with cheese and hot peppers, and tater-tots. great way to end the day. Nothing wrong with going the chili dog route either. But I mean come on, Italian beef, hot peppers, tater-tots! I feel like I can't say it enough. Order that and there is no way you can leave unhappy. And if you have kids, no worries. Especially in the summer when you can sit outside and just relax.

Since moving from Chicago I've been looking for an Chicago style Italian Beef and sausage combo. Today I found it. The location is hidden away in an suburban area near the LRT line. I ordered the beef and sausage combo with hot peppers and fries. The food was piping hot and tasted great. The place is spotless and the service was superb. Finally they had a giant TV screen showing the Vikings-Steelers game. Sadly the Vikings lost, I think I may be turning into a vikings fan

Any place that can give me a pizza puff and a polish is good with me. It gives me my Chicago fix when I want it. I wish the polish were a little more crispy, but it does the job.

I can't get enough of this place. I can't stop eating the chili dogs! Mmm mmmm now, stinky stinky later! But that's okay! Also, the tots are so crispy! Get a side of cheese and a diet coke and you will be in heaven! It isn't a bad place to sit down at either, you got your more traditional divey part in the front, and a slick new room in the back emblazoned in NASCAR driver tribute decor. Patio seating is immense and nice since the trees are all so tall in the neighborhood. Why not stop by Dreamhaven and make a day of it?

WTF is a picture of a hot dog with ketchup doing on this review? I am a Chicago native, born on the South Side, lived briefly on the north side, and moved to Minnesota 3 weeks ago. I had been disappointed with the lack of good hot dog stands in the twin cities but now I think I have a good one. I had an Italian and fries. It was a really good sausage, good peppers too. I could have used some red sauce, but took it to go and did not ask if it was available. The fries are kind of weak, but have good seasoning. For those from Chi, they have Vienna beef, poppy buns, bright green relish, etc. From what I saw, they actually make Chicago dogs. Jennifer K is what is wrong with Yelp. People that order something they don't like and then hold it against the restaurant. A beef sandwich is supposed to be soggy. If you don't want it soggy, order it dry. I'll be back, this place reminds me home.

This place is awesome. It was recommended to my fiance and I when we first got to Minnesota, and we were told it's "the best place you'll never find on your own"... and it's true. It's really off the main drag of 55/Hiawatha and it's sort of a good thing because while it's always crowded, it's never "packed". The service is great - people are friendly and your food comes out fast, regardless of how crazy it is. The owners are usually there behind the counter which really shows their pride and dedication to the place (as if you couldn't tell from the food!). When you go, you cannot leave without having the mozzarella sticks. They're seasoned fantastically and are paired with a great marinara sauce that makes for one out-of-this world snack. The hot dogs are obviously a must, but you'll probably find it difficult to choose between the Maxwell and the Chicago Style - my fiance generally gets one of each because they both look and taste so great. Make sure to bring cash because they don't accept credit cards. They do have an ATM on site, but ATM fees are lame.

I ordered a pizza to be delivered - Canadian bacon, pineapple & onion. Got pepperoni. Not much you can do once the delivery person is gone. Tried to order chicken wings, they were out. How can you be out of wings on a Saturday night? Typically I rave about this place but may need to seek and alternative.

I did not grow up in Chicago, however, I know someone who did and he claims this to be about as close as one can get to "real" Chicago style food. I have to admit after eating (way too many) of their Italian beef sandwiches I have a really hard time eating one anywhere else. It really is the one of the don't miss locations in MPLS.

    (4)
  • Micah L.

The food isn't to bad here standard chi town food I don't think anything is made fresh here or from scratch, stay clear of the hamburgers they come precooked and probably the worst I have had but besides that decent food with fast service

As an expat Chicagoan living on the West Coast but occasionally visits MN to see relatives-in-law, this place is as close to the real deal I've seen outside of Chicago. The beef with hot is 85% (bread's a little too tough) but the Chicago style hotdog is spot on. Who cares about the rest? ;-)

Italian Sausage comes plain, no marinara or cheese, you have to pay extra....that is a complete shame because the sandwich was terrible plain. I got it home and could not believe that it would be served this way. No sauce, peppers, cheese nothing. Chili dog had cheez wiz on it...I specifically asked if it was cheez wiz and they said no way....guess what...it was. Chicago dogs are fair to good but very high priced. Fries are less than mediocre. Being a Chicago native who has eaten over 5,000 Chicago all beef hot dogs in my life I was hoping for something good, not great...believe me this place is not good.

Prefab food. Arrives cold and not just once, but every dang time and we are maybe 10 blocks away. Blah....

  • Ashley S.

  • Thaddeus S.

  • Amber S.

  • b g.
