By far my most favorite rooftop patio EVER!!!!! My bf and I were just wandering around downtown and happened to run across this place. Thank goodness we did!! We were able to get a nice quiet table up on the rooftop next to the lawn bowling green. We ended up sitting there people watching for hours!!!! James our server was totally cool. Was always around when we needed him but never felt like he was hovering. The Gouda mac and cheese bites with sriracha ketchup were absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Will definitely be back!!

I love Brit's, because every time I come for a church meeting or big church convention at a nearby hotel or the convention center (I think I've come three times now for this purpose), Brit's has great service, great beer and liquor, and a decent food menu for those of us working long hours at those church meetings. Nothing like grabbing dinner at 9:30pm after a long day of interacting with church people. I love the outdoor seating upstairs. Thanks, Brit's!

I came here for a drink with friends, and we ended up getting a spot on their back patio area. When they said patio, I thought it would be a small area, but it was huge! They had plenty of seating, so they were able to accommodate our large group. The long bench chairs and low tables were a nice touch, particularly for large groups. As others have mentioned, they have a large lawn area for lawn bowling. I would have liked to try, but no one else was interested... Overall, I thought this space was fantastic and we came on a wonderful mild summer evening. I'm not familiar with Minnesota beers, but I liked that they had some local options. I can't comment on the food, but overall, I thought it was a nice bar, and really enjoyed the back patio area. 4-stars for the bar. Minus a star for the service: The server was a little bit snippy about giving our group waters -- I don't know why he couldn't have just brought a pitcher and some cups rather than individual cups. Also, they accidentally poured an extra glass of wine. Usually they should comp that since that was their mistake, but they charged us for it this time...when we also ordered a bottle of the same wine.

The beer and the atmosphere are great, but everything else is meh. I came in with some friends after work at 1:30pm. We were told we had a table but they just forgot about us! We had to remind them to get seated. The service is slow as hell. We somehow managed to get food before our drinks! This is a great place to hangout, just expect really laid back service.

The food and atmosphere are okay. The evening service is terrible and just keeps getting worse with time.

We were hungry and we stumbled upon this place. It was packed so finishing a table was a little hard but we found one after 15 min. It's a typical British pub and felt like we were somewhere in London. I had the pot roast and it was DELICIOUS!

Stopped there for lunch on our way to the convention center. The food was rather good. I had the fish and chips and it was arguably the best I had in a while. My wife had the chicken pot pie which was good, not classified as great. Beer selection was ok. Atmosphere as pretty homely, if not a little gaudy in places. The restaurant was clean. The service left a lot to be desired. Our server was slammed with too many tables so service was slow to say the least. We asked two people three separate occasions for a high chair for our 15 month old. Drink order, food order, cashing out took a lot more time than it should. Prices were high, The quality was good but not to the level of their prices. Brit's isn't on my short list of places to return to but we would patron again.

Excellent! Had the Scotch Eggs which was very flavorful, including the dijon sauce. The roast was exactly as described in the menu, no knife needed. Friend had the penne, which was also very good. Good selection of beers at a good price! Service was quick and excellent! Jordan, our server, was very knowledgeable about the beers and menu item, plus very helpful in regards to what to do in Minneapolis. Very personable. Could be a regular stop when traveling in Minneapolis!

I work across the street from Brits and go there often for working lunches. I have tried several things on the menu and have a few favorites like the Cheese Toasty and the Fish & Chips but my all time standard is the Tandoori Chicken Wrap. It's a sandwich fded into a warm flatbread, similar to a pita. The chicken is slow cooked with yummy warm spices and is always lean and high quality. The cool yogurt sauce it's served with tops it off perfectly! You can't beat the rooftop patio at Brits, the staff are quick and friendly, and the prices aren't bad for downtown.

Awesome atmosphere and I must say this is a hopping spot! It was super crowded! We were able to be seated on the outside patio of the establishment! My husband enjoyed his selection of beer and I ordered the non alcoholic Brits Bootleg mojito - delicious but I wish there was mint in there. Food fare was decently priced and everything on the menu sounded awesome! My husband ordered the Scottish Eggs for an appetizer and the Brits Fish and Chips. I ordered the Leek soup and the chicken pot pie. According to my hubby the Scottish eggs were great, but for the fish and chips he felt there was too much batter to fish ratio. But the fries were super delicious! The leek soup was simple and nothing extraordinary. I must say the chicken pot pie was not traditional, although it was yummy, it was quite over whelming with the potatoes in it and there was not much of a flaky crust. So the pot pie was average in my book. However all of our food's presentation was stunning! Service here was moderately paced or prompt and the server was friendly! Definitely would return for atmosphere and some foods.

If I am meeting someone downtown Minneapolis it is the place I recommend. I've been here with 3 generations of my family and on a date and never been disappointed by the food or service. My latest visit was a time gap between obligations for a 3 pm dinner. Sat at the downstairs bar and watched the end of a soccer game and decided to try their wings. Was not impressed with the wings. (Their version of a pound of wings was light but the flavor was good) I was their alone so had the chance to watch the bartender busy as bartenders are he was on top of everything. He was right there for me every crucial moment of the meal. Things like as soon as my food arrived he made eye contact and asked. "Everything good?" He did again 3 wings in. Didn't even have to ask for the check. If I lived in Minneapolis I'd try the lawn bowling or a sports night here. P.S. don't hide wet naps under the lettuce on the plate of wings. The packaging is not food ready

For my first meal in Minneapolis, I couldn't be happier. I'm sure there are many great places (Hell's Kitchen is certainly on my list) but this has been a fantastic surprise. After consulting with the waiter over a few dishes, I decided to order the Tandoori Chicken, and got it with Chips. It was so good, I couldn't even wait to finish my food before starting this review. The chicken is well seasoned, tender and delicious; the naan perfectly chewy and yielding; the yogurt dressing is homemade and has amazing flavor; the chips and perfectly seasoned and crispy. The atmosphere is cheery and social, and I love the warmth of the wood and the colorful flags decorating the ceiling. Outdoor seating available on nice days (like today!). Two of my colleagues fly in tonight from London, and I'll be sure to bring them back here! Wonder if they'll like this place as much as I do, being true Brits!

Lawn bowling on the roof? This alone awards this pub an extra star. We came here for party in the upstairs room and found it the perfect place for the event. The ambiance was warm and inviting and had a large outdoor terrace that overlooks the aforementioned lawn bowling area. Along with decent pub grub (sliders, fish n chips, scotch eggs, etc.), they have a long and nice and varied list of scotches to choose from. Take your pick from 10-15 year old Macallan, Lavagullen, Glenfiddich, Glenfardich, Balvenie, Arbegh, Oban, Laphroig, Glenmorange...just to name a few. However, on top of the Scotch selection, what won me over was the special batch of Knob Creek made for Brit's which makes a mean manhattan, at the hands of the very able bodied mixologists. Add good food, drink with great service and warm ambience and it is a place that I will be sure to return.

Scrumptious fish tacos and I totally wouldn't have thought to get these at a place like this. Really cool decor, but the service was a bit slow. Also, a small beer selection if you're into that. The backyard was definitely the coast part. Great to come here on a nice summer day (or night!)

What a great experience! The service was great and the food was delicious! Shared the Cornish Pasty and Guinness pot roast. No clue why any of the other reviewers said the food was sub par, it was perfect. I am definitely coming back here when I am back in Minneapolis.

Enjoyed the outdoor seating, lawn bowling, and fish n' chips. Fun, friendly, don't take themselves too seriously, but classy - very British.

I love, love, love the elderly British gentleman at the door who greeted me genially. I think he might have been the owner. I love him and I want to bring him home with me. Maybe he'll be okay with joining me for a pint at the bar so I don't creep him out too much. Love him! I can see how folks could really get into this spot if you don't care about food, specialty beer or drinks. It's got an impressive set-up on the roof and a nice outdoor sitting area on the front sidewalk. I think that the number one intention of Brit's Pub & Eating Establishment is to be social. That intention soars far and beyond the indulgent drinking and eating. Service was alright, but not great. We went twice (to meet a friend after work and in the middle of the night when no other place had an open kitchen) and every time the servers were scarce. We waited for long periods of time between sitting down, ordering, getting our orders, and paying for the bill. Brit's Pub is good for basic beer (their focus is definitely NOT cocktails) and their food is horrible. We tried eating it multiple times because of all of the hype (people love this place) but the food is just bad. I don't know how to describe it. It's not as if the food is spoiled, it's just as if it's made by people who don't know how to make good food. I can make better food. There were at least two times when we ordered food, took one bite and then did not eat more. It's probably palpable when you're inebriated. When I go out I love to try delicious foods and indulge in good drinks. My goal isn't to get slap-happy and play bocce ball. As a result, Brit's Pub and I did not get along very well and it's not the place for me.

Myself, my fiancé and my good friend showed up around 11:30 pm on a Saturday evening. We'd had a great time at The Local, and thought we'd stop in to Brits on the walk back to my friends apartment. We stood at the bar for a little over 15 minutes, before finally getting the attention of the bar tender. We were well mannered and not outwardly drunk having only had a few drinks over the span of a few hours, yet when the bar tender finally made his way over he said "You guys should keep moving and find your drinks somewhere else." We were confused and flabbergasted. What had we done? We turned around and left, defeated and honestly embarrassed. I still have no idea why we were asked to leave, but I'd certainly never go back.

A very cool pub in downtown Minneapolis. It's bigger than it seems from the sidewalk. When the weather is nice, there's an outdoor area in the back complete with lawn bowling. There is usually some seating out front too during nice weather, but I'm not a fan of having randoms walk by watching me eat. Inside is cozy and a great place for a beer or even a meal. It seems to be a hangout for the suit and tie crowd during weekday happy hours.

I like being at Brit's! Its got a great feel to it! The food is fine... I ordered some Indian food here once, it wasn't too bad. However, the chicken pot pie was excellent :D

Nice place for lunch cold black/tan 2 piece fish and chips. Nice atmosphere and friendly waist staff. I always try to sit at the bar to get the best Pub experience. Reminds me of my travels to Britain.

I want to love Brits. And a large part of me does. The space is massive, exquisite, and lovely. They have a good happy hour and their food is good (not life changing, just good). They do a great job hosting fun events (Shakespeare on the lawn, live streaming of soccer/futbol matches on the lawn, lawn things. You get it.) I love that! Oh, and they show Downton Abbey (I'm ashamed) and Sherlock! But...I find the service to be not awesome. As in, just about every time. But, I expect it now. Its not that they're rude, they are just very inattentive. But, the place is like.... 4 floors? I don't know. Just know that has been my experience. Regardless, everyone must come here once. For sure. And its a fun place to bring out-of-towners.

  • Sue P.

It is amazing that you can pay only half price for all the beers on happy hour. But finger food is very average. A box of fries was not bad, chicken wing was too salty. If you want to try the place, I recommend you to try Happy Hour first. By the time when happy hour goes, the place is pretty busy.

Grabbed some drinks here while passing through Minneapolis. Large outdoor roof deck teaming with people on a nice summer day. They have lawn bowling as well if you are into that sort of thing; just plan on waiting to get a game in. While they serve liquor, this definitely seems to be the kind of place to order a beer over anything else.

Came here for drinks for the final destination in the Pubcrawl. I got a bootlegger which was essentially lemonade although it supposedly contains liquor of choice (believe it had Jameson). It was meh. I also got a glass of Pinot Grigio and moscato both very good but standard (about $6.75 and 7.50 respectively). The rooftop is awesome but very crowded one it hits midnight. They have lawn bowling but that fills up fast so you got to go early in the night to sign up. Food was standard and mediocre but we got bar food (fries and grilled cheese sammy) Would come here for the rooftop or patio seating with friends but probably not mainly for their drinks. Might try their fish and chips next time when more sober.

Brit's Pub is a cool downtown location known for its rooftop patio which even features a giant lawn bowling field. I was brought here by a Minneapolis native, and one look at the fish and chips while I walked to my seat and I was sold. The rooftop location is nestled between towering office buildings and sets off a fun, outdoor vibe with a constant reminder that's you're in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. The fish and chips were very good and very large. Come hungry or order the smaller size. Overall a very cool Minneapolis experience.

We were looking at getting into holidazle and looking at the line thought just get food and wait it out. Not Disappointed!!Brits Pub turned into a favorite that we will make the trip back for. The little guy had the chicken strips while the adults split an order of the Guinness pot roast and chips and a two piece fish and chips (perfect portions). Myah made it all happen, but then again whe we walked in someone said 45 minute wait, but when I checked in, 5 minutes. This place is great.

A taste of England in the heart of Downtown Minneapolis, Brit's does a good job at delivering across-the-pond authenticity without seeming too gimmicky. As I'm a big fan of Happy Hour and/or late-night drinks, I love their appetizer selection. Their artichoke dip is top knotch, and it's always important to get a cider or beer along with your meal, as Brit's is known for their ale selection. Sometimes their service can be sassy and slow, as they tend to get very crowded late afternoon, early evening, but it's never been a huge problem. If you have a chance to go on the weekend, check out their rooftop. It's 85% lawn bowling green, and the other 15% is filled with quality seating and a good view of Hennepin Ave., which is especially nice during Pride weekend. I haven't had a chance to bowl, yet, but it's something I aim to check out in the future. If you like beer, rooftops, and English food, Brit's is everything you could ever want. Just be patient with the servers, and don't give them any lip - they give it right back, in a passive aggressive way that no one wants to get involved in. Just take in the views, nom on great food, and just be happy that you didn't have to cook it yourself.

Average bar food, not-so-nice waiters and bartenders. If you are stuck in a hotel that in Minneapolis, this seems to be the recommended place. Brit's was packed every night. Everyone I spoke to said the same thing about the service and food. Maybe the locals are used to sub-par service and food. I'll add that they sell Cadbury chocolate that I usually only find when I go to England. Each is $2.

OK, great place for Happy Hour, but shouldn't there be more? I have been going here for years now and when downtown this is one of my favorite places for Happy Hour (although the Local is far better in my opinion). Love the rooftop in the summer time and overall this place is very warm and inviting. The food here has always been a bit of a letdown though. Last night I went with a group of friends and we all ordered food. Split some of their wings, which was a mistake. Nothing special as wings go although the dipping sauce was OK the wings themselves were very plain. For the entire table not one person was overly impressed with the food. Couple of people ordered burgers, OK British pub place you aren't expecting a great burger, and they didn't get one. A couple went with the chicken, again British Pub. What about "when in Rome". Now, if you are a British style pub you would think there are a couple of things you would take some pride in and excel. A few people ordered the Bangers and Mash, very British, who else would name sausage and mash potatoes something so special. Very ordinary sausage and nothing special with the potatoes. I went with what should be the easiest choice and ordered the fish and chips. Is there anything more Britt than that? The fish was soggy and bland, I would say some of the worst Fish and Chips I have ever had. The chips where OK but under-seasoned and again nothing special. I know they're chips but at least salt them, pepper them, something. All this and overpriced. Overall I will continue to come here for the odd Happy Hour but if it's with anyone that has plans to eat, there are so many better places to go. This one place I will say that the Suburbs can do as good if not better, there is nothing to be proud of with that statement! KT

A solid four stars. We came last night before our Minnesota Orchestra concert, and now, I will ALWAYS come before an event at Orchestra Hall. Our wait was short, and the service was excellent! It has a social, casual interior with a subtly romantic vibe, and if I recall correctly, there is a rooftop patio, which is especially pleasant after sunset. My best friend ordered the fried cod. I was impressed by their French fries, but I caved in, as usual, and ordered the chicken tikka masala. The food did not exceedingly impressive, but it was VERY good! See you next time ;)

The original British Pub in downtown Minneapolis. Open since 1990, this place is clearly doing something right. If you are here on a weekend, you can expect to find raging soccer fans and lots of families with kids. During the week and especially at lunch, it can be quiet, like the day of my most recent visit. Since it was drizzling and as Brits is NOT skyway connected, the foul weather really cuts down their traffic for lunch. In contrast on a warm and sunny day, their patio out front (one of the largest on Nicollet) as well as their deck off the lawn bowling course can be packed with people enjoying a beer and some sunshine. I've eaten here several times including twice in the past month but can't call their food outstanding. Most recently for lunch I had the club (be SURE to ask for extra crispy bacon as they are pretty authentic in their preparation of British food and the bacon can be somewhat chewy and fatty otherwise) and it was fine but nothing to write home about. They do have good fries and the service is pretty good. I think you go to Brits not for the fine dining, but for the atmosphere, revelry and a chance to hang with your friends in a warm and comfortable environment.

Good food but nothing too special. Beer, fish and chips, and a nice patio outside. I would come to just eat outside but the food isn't super outstanding. It's just fried stuff and beer! But for the experience it's pretty decent if you're not picky. I only give it 3 stars because it's not exactly my kind of place but if you're not too picky, I can imagine it being a great after-hour hang out spot with co-workers!

This review is for nighttime lawn bowling. This was so fun and the drinks were good and cheap. I say go for the lawn bowling at night when its $5 a person for the hour and not crowded. So fun!!!

During an evening of bar hopping in Minneapolis, we stopped in at Brit's. In need of a break from drinking in the Minnesota heat/humidity, I had my husband grab me a soda water. They charged me $3 for a plastic cup of soda water! $10 for a beer (also in a plastic cup) and a water, seems a bit high for Minneapolis. The place was packed on a Friday night, which I'm guessing is the usual. I like the indoor/outdoor approach, and the lawn bowling looked fun, but I still kind of got that frat house vibe from the place. With the crowds and the heat, it was pretty stinky on the inside. Outside is the only way to go in the summer. Brit's seems to be an area favorite, so perhaps you should give it a try for yourself. Just don't order a water with your beer...

Brit's popped my Scotch Egg cherry and I liked it. My co-worker proclaimed that Brit's is her absolute favorite place in downtown, so we headed in after a long day of meetings. As a bonus, it was a warm and sunny day (amazing for late March!) so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful day along with what appeared to be the rest of Minneapolis. Seriously, it was crowded - it's clearly a popular place to soak up both sun and beer. There's an extensive beer and cider list with several traditional British options, and happy hour pints are $4.50. I went with wine and it was pretty decent for a beer bar. After a few glasses we needed sustenance, so scotch eggs and samosas were ordered. The samosas were "okay" - not a lot of flavor and the sauce that comes with was way sticky-sweet. The scotch eggs on the other hand - whoa - where have these been all my life? They were delicious - not greasy and all kinds of savory wonderful. Staff was outstanding - despite the crowds, I never had a problem getting a refill and both the servers and bartenders were genuinely friendly. I can see why my co-worker is such a big fan - sun, beer and SCOTCH EGGS. What more do you need?

They have beer here, and that's good. They have food here, and that maybe wasn't such a good choice. I don't have much (any) background in poutine, so I can't really say whether the poutine was really bad here, or whether poutine is really bad everywhere. Is it supposed to be soggy and bland? The mill work in the bar is really pretty, gives it a nice authentic feel. It's a fine place to come if you want to get drunk on $7 beers. But only if you're on pace for one each half hour to 45 minutes. That's about how frequently we saw our server.

This place has a lot of really good food. I was pretty surprised at how well the food was made. Their chips are great. The gravy the give you with the meals are rich as well. You won't go wrong with most things on the menu. I loved my curry and chips. The portions are consistent with the prices. And what a nice layout inside. Cool joint.

I like this place. It has a diverse range of British and Imperial cuisine. It's cheesy as hell, but with two tiers of rooftop, you can't really argue. We got the Scotch Eggs, Tandoori Chicken, and the Pasty. Everything tasted great, the Tandoori chicken having a char that was borderline too strong. I definitely don't have much of a threshold for grease so if you don't, avoid the Scotch eggs unless you like to poop for hours on end. I know it's hard to narrow it down, but I knew it'd happen after the first bite. TMI? Hey, you guys want an honest review right? But on a less gross note, the Tandoori chicken sandwich is great. Get that.

Every time I come to Minneapolis this is a must stop! I've had many things on their menu and loved every single one of them, my personal favorites the chicken masala and the steak pie. The beer selection is varied and delicious whatever your style or flavor they have one to fit your needs. Don't forget to go upstairs and see the bowling green, a very unexpected surprise in the heart of the city.

Love the lawn bowling! I can't say that I have ever seen anything like that before. They even have the league champions painted up on the big wall! I managed to capture a table outside and while it was windy as all get out, it was awesome to sit with a street view and watch the bowling and the people. For a "northern" city that bundles up all winter, there is some great talent here in the warmer times! As for the food, it's definitely "British-style" with cheeseburgers that have Stilton. And Scotch Eggs. And of course, Fish & Chips. Beer was mostly the mass-produced type, but it was good to see ciders on the list. I had a Bass and my friend had a Stella. Love this place - I would absolutely return!

Firstly, Brits is not the place for me. I am gluten-free and vegetarian, so needless to say the scotch eggs and Guinness did not bring me in. Actually it was my friends who were lured by them. I reluctantly followed, assuming that I'd be sipping a water while everyone else had fun. Luckily, it turns out I was wrong. There are not a lot of dairy-free/meat-free/gluten-free options so I had to search around. Finally I settled on the fish tacos. When I asked my server if they could leave out the taco shells, he offered to put in fries instead at no extra cost. I was happy because I like fries. They also left the dairy items off the plate, and gave me some mayonnaise instead. They also offer Strong Bow and Crispin ciders for us GF people. I was impressed with their willingness to accomodate my special diet. All in all there really isn't much on the menu if you're vegan AND gluten free, but if you can work around with either issue a little bit you can find yourself a pretty satisfying meal.

Wasn't super blown away by the atmosphere but our waitress was friendly and the food excellent. Had the fish and chips on recommendation of our server and I'd rank it at the top. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries were nice and crispy. The best part was the house made tarter sauce. It was fresh and tangy and not too sweet. Perfect compliment to the fish.

The pub itself was conveniently located ~3 blocks from the Convention center. Honestly I only went for drinks at the bar. They had Jameson, a barstool, and took AMEX. Honestly, what more could you ask for?

Exceptional service!! I came in last week for lunch for the first time and was very impressed by my server "Nick". My friend and I were having a hard time choosing a beer( I'm usually a boring beer drinker) and Nick had suggested a boddington, we loved it! I ordered the fish and chips my friend ordered a salad. Food was great and service was even better. He made a point to refill our drinks accordingly, clear our plates when we finished and overall was very friendly! I will defiantly be back soon! Thanks Nick!

Very cool English pub in downtown Minneapolis. This place is huge with several rooms and floors. There is a huge lawn bowling court on the second floor and they show sports on a large television outside. I have been to Brit's several times (twice for World Cup games) and they have really got it together. Surprisingly, the best service is away from the main bar. When I have been in and sat at the main bar, the bartenders have had a knack for making me feel like they have other things to do. The beer selection is excellent and the food was pretty good. As a business traveler, I see a lot of restaurants and pubs and Brit's is near the top of my list. If it's nice outside, make sure to sit out on the roof!

My friend said she had the best pasta here.. so.. being bloated with lunch again... don't really feel like having pasta... my friend did.. so I tried a bite of it!!! The four cheese pasta (something like that).. it's pretty good.. I am not a huge fan of cheese.. so I guess I am just ok with it.. I ordered mango shrimp salad... Shredded carrots, soba noodles, edamame, and some greens mixing together with mango sesame dressing... top with shrimp and mango... I really like it.. I ordered it because it's one of their specialty... I am just a little disappointed with it because I thought they will mix the mango and shrimp in the salad instead of separating it!!! but overall it's good... My friend had fish and chips.. and he said it's good... can't comment much on it.. I will said that this is so far the best bar food restaurant I have ever had...:)

Went for the tea service and was disappointed. The service was slow and when the tea finally arrived even after a fair amount of brewing time it was very weak. Only tea service I have ever been to that you had to ask for milk. The scones were good. The croissant sandwich was stale. Even the mars bar dessert had a microscopic sliver of mars bar in it. I don't plan to go again there are plenty other choices for tea service that are wonderful.

The rooftop at Brit's is a great spot to have a few drinks and appetizers with friends. The lawn is used for yoga and bowling occasionally. I haven't got a chance to watch "real" football (soccer for Americans) at Brit's yet but I would assume it be great watching the match with fellow football lovers. The prices are a bit pricey but considering the downtown location, it makes sense.

I can't speak to the food- but lawn bowling on a huge rooftop on a Gorgeous Minneapolis evening was about as fun as it gets. Bouyaa.

Excellent British dining. Also, it's great for what ales you... ;^) Very busy place almost all the time. Very good service, you get lots of food with your order and the Guinness pot roast rules. Also, they provide free Wi-Fi. A nice bonus.

Located only 3-4 blocks from our hotel downtown (Marquette Hilton), a group of 15+ of us met at Brit's Pub on Friday night after dinner. This is a very cool establishment that is made to look like an English pub. It's three stories high with two rooftop decks. One of the decks looks out onto the streets below while the other has a view of Brit's large grass field which is used for lawn bowling. Unfortunately, the field was closed off and guarded by security when we went. Still, impressive to look at. The grass appeared to be in outstanding condition so it's no wonder why they didn't want patrons trampling all over it. Inside, the bar has multiple rooms with pool tables and big screen HDTVs. I appreciated the U.S. Open coverage being played on Golf Channel. Not too many bars, including sports bars, will tune their TVs to Golf Channel. Kudos to Brit's for that. Indoors upstairs are some pool tables. There's plenty of seating outside on the rooftop decks along with small bars where you can order drinks. Additional seating is also available on the sidewalk outside the entrance. The place was busy, but not uncomfortably crowded for a Friday night. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our large group. Overall, this is a very nice bar/restaurant that is clean, in good condition, and has a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Great service. Sat outside and enjoyed a jazz band play across the street. Amazing food. Had the Guiness pot roast. It was tender and delicious.

My favorite downtown bar. Get up to the patio in the summer and attend a soccer game viewing. Have had great experiences here for New Year's Eve as well. Give lawn bowling a try.

Brit's Pub was a good hangout while visiting Minneapolis. The food was descent. Nothing too special to rave about. Their menu had plenty of items to choose from. I ordered the meat pie. The pie was good, just not as meaty as I expected it should have been. I was disappointed that an establishment with the name Brit's Pub, claiming to have some type of Brittish background did not serve actual chips, they served fries. That was definitely something I was hoping to get at such a place. Sat at a table where a 60"-70" TV hung low and almost hit our heads several times. Service was descent. Nothing too special either.

  • Ben R.

Crowded, not the best prices, and all the other complaints I'm sure are valid. However, off-peak hours in the summer are nice and the rooftop area is much more spacious than other establishments so you'll probably get a table easily. No, you cannot actually tread on the lawn bowling course. No, the views are not that great. In the winter this place doesn't have much to commend it, but it's a fine afternoon or weekday evening place to eat/drink outdoors and not be at street level.

Made it here twice during my recent trip. The portions are huge when ordering sandwiches from the menu. Appetizers are all good---highly recommend the mac and cheese bites! The drinks were tasty---try the Jameson and Ginger! An absolute must if you are in the Minneapolis area!

My first experience with this place was for their Oscars party, and boy, did I have a great time! They sure can throw a fun party! The party wasn't in the main restaurant, which looked pretty cool. It was in the clubhouse upstairs. I loved the atmosphere and the fireplace! The staff was very friendly and facilitated a great event! That night, I tried their new drink called the Big Cherry (cherry coke + 2 Gingers whiskey) and the fish & chips. Both were excellent! I intend to go back again to try more of the fare and for another great Brit's experience!

This is my when-all-else-fails place, a reliable joint that has good happy hour prices, a stone's throw away from work. I sometimes think how awesome it'd be if we can just zipline from my building to Brit's large outdoor space on a sunny day. How fantastic would that be? They do have some of the best outdoor seating in DT, which is why you have to come early during the gorgeous days, or risk sitting inside while the rest of us bask in the glorious summer sun. Their regular food menu is pretty good, your standard English fare of fried food, fried food, and more fried food. Their happy hour food menu is decent too; I like their chips and curry a lot, and I think I've had the scotch eggs once, which was also decent. Pair that with a tall, cold glass of Crispin and I'm a happy gal. Brit's is a great place to watch huge sporting events, like the World Cup 2010, and I'm pretty sure it's going to get packed when the 2012 Olympics start. But, of course, my most memorable visit here was when I watched the wedding of William and Kate last year with hundreds of fellow anglophiles. It was amazing how many people got up at 3 in the morning (or didn't sleep at all) to get here for the wedding at 4 AM. Freaking epic.

Oh what's that? This place has cool rooftop lawn bowling? Too bad! It's reserved and you're not invited. Let's get one thing straight: This place is a dirty, semi-dive bar not a country club. There's no need to make people set reservations for your lawn bowling. Brit's Pub is just like any other dive you've been to. It's dirty and the pub fare is mediocre. Too bad because the location is awesome. These guys could do better. If you want to check out a pub with better food and nicer people, head a few blocks east to The Local.

I work downtown and have eaten here probably over twenty times. The food is always way above-par bar food and the scotch and bourbon selection is damn good. I usually go for a Laphroaig and soup, but the whole menu is solid, especially the fish and chips. The prices are not super inexpensive, but more that fair, Yelpers bitch about it, but your downtown dumbshit! That's like complaining that Arby's is too cheap. The staff is nice, attentive and the bartenders are always quick and personable. I especially like Pete behind the bar, always makes me feel at home and Nate is another terrific bar-keep behind the ol' bar. The atmosphere here is also warm, inviting and reminds me of what I like about pubs...,that...well..., it's classic British pub. Not to say it lacks personality, it's pretty charming, and doesn't smell like fried fish, or have that one annoying suburban American patron that many neighborhood British pubs have...you know..the guy who talks about soccer (football) the whole time in order to establish that he understands how a British pub works (and he invariably hates the big UK teams like Arsenal....no, this guy always like the British soccer equivalent of the Tampa Bay Rays), and the decor is wholly apt for their style. Bonus points for having lawn bowling upstairs in the summer, and the outside seating is a nice way to people watch as you sip on a drink and chow down on a burger. Clientele is a mix of downtown business-folk, 22 year old beer barons, industry bartenders and wait-staff, locals and a smattering of tourists. All in all, I love this place. Brit's is not reinventing the wheel, it's a British pub with all the perfunctory British Pub fixings, so don't expect the unexpected, but do expect the comfort of home...if you are British...or if you like soup...or soccer....or scotch....or ellipses.............

I wrote my original review fresh off a private event, but came back last weekend for a friend's birthday and there quite a few things that could've been better. Namely, the so-so service and the steep prices and the somewhat dry chicken strips. I kind of agree with Glendon S that there are certain reasons to go to Brit's: 1. Rooftop activities. Yoga or a comedy show or a movie---there's a lot going on in the summer! And the lawn bowling itself is a great time. 2. Your friends planned something there. Hence, why I was there last weekend. 3. A private party. These seem to be rather well-managed, as evidence from my previous review.

Great place to hang out, have a beer or too and eat some authentic british pub food. The Brit's Burger with its tomato/bacon jam is amazing, and the walleye is a local favorite for good reason. The curries are good, but a little weak for my taste. Fish and chips are fresh, light and crisp as they should be. All in all its a great place for a casual meal with friends.

I came here for lunch with a friend. The service was good, the waiter was great. We sat outside but the inside looked really interesting. There was an overwhelming bleach smell inside. I've spent the last 10 years working in restuarants, I know that smell. The food was mediocre at best. I got the fish sandwich. The fish had ZERO flavor, there wasn't even a sauce on my dry ass sandwich. The fries were typical frozen fries, nothing special. I got a bland sand which, fries and one beer for $22 !!!!! Seriously, $22......I coulda got a comparable meal at McDonalds and a case of beer and still had money left over!!! I wanted to tip the waiter more, he was great. However, I am a poor student and had just been ripped off. I agree with a previous poster, The Local is way better.

Love this place. One of my favorites in downtown Mpls. Incredible atmosphere during soccer matches, especially World Cup on the Lawn, but also Premier League and Champions League in the Long Room. Great chicken tikka masala, and I say that being Indian and having high standards. The soups are well done as well. Great beer list (have to recommend Fullers London Pride).

The food is always on point, the beer is delicious and endless, the staff is the best I've seen around. With all the levels and constant events going on between sporting events. It is a place you HAVE TO TRY at least once when you're in the Minny Apple. The outside seating in the summer is THE BEST!!!

Brit's has a great atmosphere and good food/beer. I always enjoy myself until the bill comes. The prices are very steep and i'm not a huge fan of spending $30 on a sandwich and two beers. Though I definitely could go for the tandoori chicken pita right now.

Brit's has tremendous outdoor seating options either right out front near the street or up top on their large rooftop area where they have their lawn bowling. A really great space. As fate would have it, we ended up eating here twice in one day. So it couldn't have sucked. Fish and chips aren't my usual order, but i found it to be a good choice. None of the food choices ended up being outstanding, but decent enough (although it was recommended not to get a burger). A good spot to meet up with an old friend, which was exactly what we did.

I don't normally go to pubs or bars, I usually go for the hole-in-the-wall mom and pop type Vietnamese or Thai places to get a full belly for a good price. That being said, take this with a grain of salt. I went in on a super busy afternoon. It was after a marathon downtown so the place was packed. I was with my boyfriend and we had to squeeze through the larger groups waiting in order to get to the hostess podium--that kind of busy. We were greeted with a smile and were seated fairly quickly. Waitress was pleasant, even during the rush of people. I had a bit of a hard time finding anything I could eat (I can't have pork) that was under $15. I ordered a beer and a sandwich, the Tandoori Chicken ($12). The sandwich was okay, came with an average sized pile of fries. Unfortunately, I feel like I could've made something better at home. Sandwich was a little dry, just pita bread with iceberg lettuce, cucumber sauce and a few chunks of chicken. My boyfriend ordered a club sandwich of some kind, which he enjoyed but felt like the price was a little high as well. I spent $20 and my boyfriend spent about the same. We both just got a beer and a sandwich. I wasn't exactly wow-ed by what I got, but I'd be willing to give the place another shot someday: as long as somebody else pays the bill.

If it were possible to give zero stars I would have done that. First of all it took almost an hour to get our food. It would have been nice for our waitress to come and let us know that things were taking a long time, but she never did. We saw her 2 times total, she took our order and took our money. Actually, she didnt take our money we had to hunt her down to get our check paid. She spent half the time up at the bar flirting with the bartender and the other half just standing around. We were convinced that she did not put our order in, realized her mistake and just didnt want to deal with us. Our drinks were never refilled and there were dozens of waitresses around. The manager was doing the hosts job and wasn't really ever available to talk to. It seems like they were overstaffed but judging by the service we received it would seem they either need more incompetent servers or to just start over and get some competent wait staff. The table next to us had an even worse experience than we did, who would have guessed that was possible. When they finally got their food, they waited as long as we did, they only got one of the two things they ordered. They asked the man who brought the food where there other food was, he said he would check on that, spoiler alert he didnt! About 15 minutes later when the waitress was finally nearby they stopped her and asked her about it, she was grumpy and said it would be out in 2 mins. Then she went the computer and realized she never put his food order in. She actually apologized which surprised me. It was another 20 mins and he still didnt have food. I have no idea if he ever got his food because we were fortunate enough to get out of that hell hole. tl; dr Awful service, mediocre overpriced food, WILL NOT BE BACK EVER.

I only ate here once, but I was impressed with my food choices. I got the Scotch Eggs as an appetizer, and for dinner I ordered the tuna sandwhich with sweet corn. Now that was messy sandwhich to eat, but it was DELISH!! I grave for that sandwhich again!! Staff were also friendly. I would go back in a heart beat.

Food was decent, not worth the prices though. Nothing too great. It's an ok place to just stop by for something if you're in the area. But I wouldn't recommend though. Our server wasn't all the great either. Appetizers were also brought out with meals and the tables are small, so that was kind of annoying. I wouldn't return overall.

Went here during a world cup game earlier today. (Germany vs. France.) Was crowded and loud and the service were overworked but nice. Pints: Fuller's ESB and Newcastle Brown Always been a fan of both of these. Newcastle didn't have a big enough of a head. ESB didn't have a head when it should have a small one but it was fresh. it wasn't delivered quick enough. Good sized pint though. 4.5 star price (Newcastle for 3.86 dollars..nice,) 4 star beers, 3.5 star serving. Mains: Fish Sarnie Our ale-battered cod tail covered with melted Cheddar, served with lettuce, tomato and onion and house tartar sauce $12.95 3.9. Good cod with not a super starchy batter and a lot of cheddar. Steak & Ale Pie Chunks of tender beef and mushrooms baked in rich Fuller's ESB gravy, with chips and peas $14.95 4.2 Very good flaky/buttery crust, beef was quite tender. Impressive pie but pretty pricy for the size. Fries were a bit too big to be crispy. Dessert: Bread Sticky Toffee Pudding Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding Brioche layered with sweet dates baked in egg custard, finished with bourbon toffee sauce $6.95 2.0 I wouldn't call the top a brioche. I wouldn't call it an egg custard. There wasn't a bourbon toffee sauce. Either I got the wrong dish or this was a terrible application of a dessert I usually love. It was basically a sweet pudding topped with bland bread pieces. 4.5 3.9 4.2 4 2 18.6/25 3.7, I'll round up but I would not recommend the Sticky toffee "pudding" at all.

This review is for the bar only. The Great: + A decent selection of draft beers. I was happy to see Fuller's Lancer on tap, in spite of the fact it's not an actual cask system. + Prices. Great value on the whisk(e)y. Nice pours for the price. Keep an eye out for Pappy... it's on the menu but not always in stock. The A-OK: o Bartender was A-OK... not super friendly but she poured a nice dram and a decent beer. Works for me. Since this place is close to the Hyatt I am staying at I can see it being my watering hole while I visit MSP. Cheers!

After living in London its great that I can swing in to Brit's and feel as if I'm back there. The food is great, and the atmosphere even better. There's a lot to do here besides drink, although they don't discourage that either. We aren't that close, but we make the drive a few times a month in the summer. It is worth it! If you're there and things are dead, grab a black and tan for Freddy, he's the best!

Great venue and food and drink selection. The reason I don't give Brit's 5 stars is because I've had some spotty service at times. Bartenders seem to be sometimes a bit cold and put off. They remind me of the most beautiful girl in town who knows that she has lots of suitors. I've had decent bartenders at Brit's but I've also had some very standoffish ones.

Well - Brit's Pub really is a classic pub in DT Minneapolis, what more can you say. I've enjoyed many a sunny happy hour on the patio - and really, they might be able to boast top 5 outdoor seating in Minneapolis. It's located in the historic Lafayette building, so there is lots of beautiful woodwork inside, and the bar itself has a great throw-back feeling to times or yore and really does remind me of some of the quaint & rustic pubs in England. Yes - I notice woodwork, maybe it's because I grew up in an old house in Minneapolis, so I find it endearing. The first floor is small and the tables are close together - just know that. The bar area gets crowded after 5 and on weekend nights. The 2nd floor eating area is a bit dark, so I prefer the first level for the natural light. So - you want to talk outdoor seating? Brit's I'm sure must be able to fit at least 200 people in all of their outdoor areas combined whether on the front sidewalk, the 2nd level patio where the lawn-bowling is located, or the 3rd floor patio deck connected to the Club Room. (Just walk through the Club Room sometime, you'll think you're at an Ivy League institution and you'll probably feel you need to be wearing a suit-coat or some kind of cardigan with seersuckers). I like Brit's because of the ambiance, it has a classy pub feel, if that's a thing. The food is pretty average/mediocre actually, and I think most dishes are about $2-4 overpriced. They are known for their fish & chips, but unless the oil or fish is old, or the deep-frier was neglected - it's hard to mess up battered whitefish. I do think the fries are pretty blah, they are definitely not made in house. Bland, thick-cut, and very chewy. Cool things the restaurant does: Kentucky Derby party, yoga on rooftop sponsored with Lululemon, lawn bowling (but this is a prestigious club, you can't just show up and bowl), movies outside on the patio, celebrates British holidays & traditions and there is even a red phone-booth on the 2nd outdoor patio, and more! If Brit's had higher quality food at a bit of a lower price, this would easily be a 4 or 5, since the rest of the restaurant is quite enjoyable.

My friend and I went here awhile back, and service was fantastic! Our server Alex was on point! He was super knowledgable, personable and courteous. The food was great but unfortunately I have to deduct a star because there were no crickets in the cricket club. Supposedly cricket is a sport you can play and not just a bug you can eat? It was a little deceiving. We ended up getting the appetizer sampler instead (also had no bugs, but we got through it) all in all great service great food, but if you're looking for bugs don't come here

Stopped into Brit's last night for a corporate affair. They had the while roof reserved for us! This place is a lot of fun! There was lawn bowling on the roof, something I've never done. It's a lot like Bocce Ball with some lopsided balls and a bunch of fun. The food was served buffet style for our party and was quite good. Traditional Fish & Chips, Chicken Burritos, Fruit. Not you typical bar fare and quite tasty. I had a couple of Minnesota's own brews. My favorite was the Surly Furious. I really have to hand it to them. They put on a great spread. I would like to return with some friends on another night.

I would be willing to bet that Brit's has the most outdoor seating in Minneapolis, they have a large street level patio and a huge rooftop. In addition to the seating they have a large area for lawn bowling, this is a great location when the weather is warm. This place is about 5 minutes from my house and 10 seconds from work, I have probably been there 20-30 times for food or drinks. I rarely decide on Brit's as my first choice but whenever I go I am normally pleased. There is a certain something missing from the atmosphere that prevents it from being a 5 star place for me. I think part of it is that this location is great for people visiting the convention center or staying at the hotels near by so there are often large groups of tourists and bachelor/bachelorette parties. I have nothing against either of those groups but they can definitely create a different vibe. The food is pretty good, I especially love their Beefeater sandwich. The service is hit or miss but there are 4 bars in the place so you have lots of options to grab your own drinks. The beers are a little pricier than most of the places I go downtown but the atmosphere is more casual drinking so the total cost typically evens out. I would say this is a good place to come if you want an outside meal or a casual night with friends. This is not a dancing and shots bar, keep going further downtown if you are looking for that. Also, this place is named Brits so it's the place to come for European events, they had an early morning viewing party for William and Kate's wedding and I am sure will have tons of stuff for the World Cup.

Went here with my close family for a 50th birthday after this place had been a long time favorite of his. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed and felt very bad for the man of the hour for a few reasons. First of all, the food took a while to come out despite not being busy; however it was okay. 5-6/10. Second, our server was awful. Slow service, unhelpful, in a bad mood, and couldn't even pretend to care. She was blonde with short hair and made it apparent that we weren't worth her time. Third, and most importantly, after going to the hostess mid-meal, I had informed them of a birthday, and they said *****they typically don't so anything for birthdays**** (not even a comped beer?!) ****but it's up to the server*** well, after that I went to our angry server and she came off as annoyed for asking and said no, but if we wanted to order a desert we could. No fake apology, but an annoyed reaction. Do not go here for birthdays or celebrations because they are too cheap to pretend to care and will surely ruin the dinner. Your nearest Applebee's will have better fish and chips, salads, chicken sandwiches, and are willing to actually do something for your birthday just like 99% of everywhere else. They will guaranteed give you better service as well.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm a Brit living in the Twin Cities it I don't care. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The food is really great, the vibe is very similar to a real English pub and they have a lot of great beer. BODDINGTONS BABY!! Woo!! Love it. In the summer you have to check our the lawn bowls. Get on it!!

We were brought here by a local on a cold Friday afternoon, after walking around downtown for awhile. It was time to get our drink on, and Brit's was a great place to do so. We were seated upstairs and our Server was very good. We all started off with different brews, and were all happy with our choices. We also shared the Chips 'n Cheese Chippies. This was really good! Excellent cheese sauce, with bacon and plenty of fries to dip in it. I switched to wine at this point, because beer fills me up too much, and I didn't want to miss my share of the great chippies! Very much enjoyed our time here!

I'm so glad I stayed 2 blocks from here. This is the best venue ever for the World Cup. Its huge and the lawn bowling was really cool especially in the middle of DT Minneapolis. I came here 3 days in a row for the food. The Brit burger was delicious but not worth $16.95. Good beers. The bartenders don't smile or conversate very much so that why no 5 stars. Its a pretty Waspy crowd as well. Still the venue is just awesome and huge.

Pretty back patio and good food. Surprised at how busy it was, but all in our party enjoyed their meals. As busy as they were, the food came quickly and was very tasty. Our party had the fish tacos, fish and chips, and a BLT, respectively. Their bacon was excellent (if you're a bacon lover).

Solid 4 stars. We went for their happy hour and their outdoor seating. Both were great. We had some beer, which from what I remember was pretty cheap, maybe 4-5 bucks. We opted to try the appetizer sampler, even if it wasn't included in the happy hour. The food was yummy. I love fried mac n cheese and they definitely lived up to gooey goodness. The chicken fingers and cod pieces were also delicious. I loved the sauces that came with our sampler. We were hesitant about the scotch eggs, but they were surprisingly good. They were even better dipped in the Sriracha ketchup. You should definitely come here and check out the happy hour and awesome patio/outdoor section.

First time here. The staff was great, very friendly, and made simple welcoming conversation. The waitress was very knowledgable and described the menu items with great detail. The pub is quiet enough to enjoy conversations with your party yet still loud enough to make it a fun and enjoyable time. The food was excellent, it came out quick but you can tell time was spent ensuring the dish was properly prepared. The dish was not messy and very appealing. The waitress kept coming by to check on the table but not in an overly bearing manner. I would certainly come again and highly recommend it to those who haven't tried it.

YUMMMM!!! Came in the other night for dinner with a friend. Had Guiness Pot Roast and Chips and asked for a side of curry sauce... Boy, was that delicious! The Pot Roast had plenty of gravy for my fries, so I probably could've skipped the extra curry on the side... but I also love curry. Either way, this place made me so food happy!! BTW, the fish and chips is a larger portion than I was expecting. See the pictures for reference!!

Amazing atmosphere, killer happy hour prices and the best scotch eggs I've ever had! Try to come on the weekend so you can play a round or two of lawn bowls. It was booked up with private events when we were there, but it was fun to watch from the rooftop deck!

Tandoori chicken was awesome but everyone else's food was not memorable. Mac n cheese bites were good.

Went here over the weekend between shows, and it was pretty basic. Best part about this place is the outdoor area. Plenty of tables. Not crowded at all. Adequate, though not very warm, service. I had their chicken curry which had tender chicken, but was otherwise very average. I would come here for a beer and a peaceful people watching afternoon outside, but not much else to recommend.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Brits before... They get a star for outdoor lawn bowling and atmosphere during the summer, too fun. The food, however, is just average to me...maybe even a little below average especially when factoring in their high prices. I've eaten here quote a few times and tried quite a few dishes. I was expected to be blown away by the fish and chips..I wasn't. I've had better fish fry from a corner dumpy bar in wisconsin. Maybe its the fact that I've spent some quality time in London so the food just doesn't compare? Im not sure but I know that after this last visit I won't be spending money on their food... I had the tandoori chicken sandwich and my friend had the turkey burger. We both had chips as well. The service was good, nothing special but they do a good job. The prices just seem so high to me...I paid $12.95 for my sandwich which was just strips of tandoori chicken, iceberg shredded lettuce in a pita bread wrap with a side of yogurt sauce. It was good...but it wasn't great or memorable. I probably could've crafted a better one from the grocery store. My friends burger was big, but again, nothing to write home about. Brits is a fun place to grab a drink and take in the atmosphere in the summer, but I'll spend myoney on a better meal elsewhere.

Went in for a post-work happy hour not knowing it was their party for being #1 in Newcastle draft sales in 2013. As soon as I walked in, I was handed a free shirt so that was pretty cool! It was super busy by the time I was getting my food but I'm not sure if that's usual for a Friday evening or because of the party. Tried the Scotch eggs, chips and cheese (fries with a bowl of a liquid cheese blend and bacon) with a side of their "tomato bacon jam" that usually comes on their burgers (it's more a sweet bacon compote and is delicious) and the Burnt Creme dessert which is a vanilla custard flambe and tasted like fire roasted marshmallows. All this with my pint of Strongbow came to over $30 with tip which is pretty steep for me for pub fare (and the portion size leaves a bit to be desired), even at happy hour prices, but it was all delicious. I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can experience their movie nights on the rooftop lawn!

Bummed. At 10:15 pm the bartender was more interested in doing closing work than asking me if I wanted another drink or food. 10:35+ and still waiting to be asked if I want anything. She didn't take my hint when I asked if they were about to close. It's Tuesday, maybe I came on the wrong night. :-( I came in at 10:00 from The Local, they asked me if I needed anything 5x over 25-minutes.

Stopped in for a bite to eat while enjoying the Holiday Village on the Nicollet Mall. Got seated right away & had a fantastic meal. The Brit's Burger with Irish Cheddar was large enough to share. The tomato bacon jam on it was fantastic! The bread pudding for dessert was delicious. Relaxed atmosphere, cordial wait staff and prompt service. Will definitely be back!

Horrible experience. Went here to watch the USA vs Germany game tonight after calling ahead to make sure the jumbotron would be playing it outside on the lawn. I gathered 20+ friends to come as grass seats is easier to figure out and plan for than tables. Upon arriving, I was told no sitting on the grass because lawn bowling league was happening. First, I was told otherwise on the phone. Second, fucking lawn bowling league takes over instead of a World Cup match that the majority of the bar had come to watch?! Are you kidding me?! Brit's has control over their lawn and can postpone anything they want. The fact that they would rather have this instead of a major women's sporting event speaks volumes. I tried to get answers and all servers I talked to about it were rude and dismissive. One blonde with a pony tail even went so far as to say, "not my problem." The only saving grace was Bess who ended up being my large group's server. She was kind and enthusiastic and apologized for past rude behavior from her coworkers. She is the only reason we stayed and that this review should get one star. I hope she gets a raise. Brit's will not be getting mine or my friends business in the future. And from talking with the rest of the World Cup crowd who was there tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if they won't be returning either. I'll be headed to Ryan's down the street for all future events.

Solid, pretty authentic pub with good service, a strong menu, a cool upstairs patio, and rooftop lawn bowling. Fish and chips were great. The walleye was amazing. The burgers were good. Great beer selection. Our waiter was great, but ... he was a little hard to find. Overall, a great spot and hard to find any real troubles with this place.

A great place for a drink and an appetizer. Didn't have a meal though. Really cool atmosphere, didn't go upstairs but it looked like It had a lot more room. If you're a fan of soccer, definitely a good place to check out.

Our team took a team lunch out to the British Pub a half block from our office. We were guided towards the back and given our extensive menus. They had a great list of beers to choose from, but it was Diet Coke for me. I ordered the veggie burger and my friends got some fish and chips, chicken fingers, tandoori chicken wrap, and a HUGE chicken finger wrap. Everything looked wonderful! My veggie burger was in the top 5 of the Twin Cities. A nice slab of cheddar adorned it with some pickle slices and a nice veggie type sauce on top. I ordered the coleslaw instead of the freedom fries, but the fries looked really crispy! The patty was hand made, which is huge, because a lot of places just grill up a Garden Burger patty. The burger was a good size portion on a soft, yet crunchy bun. I am glad they had the hunk of cheese on there to put a lot of flavor into the patty. Our server was super cool and we had a lot of laughs. I usually just drink beer here, but it was awesome to try their food as well!

I never been in a "Pub" so while working a sports show in town I had to try it. London beer and Scottish eggs is what the server recommended. It was perfect and it was so good I went back a couple days later.

The Cock-a-Leekie soup was hot and satisfying on a chilly day which was quite nice. I also like that they have a few lunch portion versions of some of the entrees, most notably, the fish and chips. That's what I ordered and I'm happy I did as the fish had crispy batter and was very moist, tender and flavorful. Another star was the housemade tartar sauce which was good on the fish AND the chips. Malt vinegar was appropriately served with the meal and the only thing that was not top notch was the chips which were nothing special fries. The service at the bar was quick and personable and I was in and out in under 30 minutes.

Was visiting Minneapolis for a wedding and we loved this place! The deck up top is spacious and has a field where bocce ball competitions take place. Great for watching soccer games! The scotch eggs were amazing and the servers were prompt and friendly. If I am ever back in the Minneapolis area again, I will definitely pay another visit!

If you're looking for London meets Minneapolis, you've come to the right place. This place was more London-esque than half of the places I visited in London. Pics of the queen, Guinness posters, and England flags rule the walls. I also loved the fireplace with couches in the main dining hall, a favorite of mine from most London bars. I didn't check out the main room mezzanine but just looking at the pics, I am immediately taken back to London. Super cool. I think it's the perfect place for a soccer or rugby game, I can't even imagine the World Cup here! Anyway, I came for lunch here one day with a coworker and ordered a sandwich and soup. My one main complaint about this place is the fact that they don't have a lunch menu. I totally think they should do combos here...soup/salad or sandwich and soup type of thing. The waiter was super cool and let me substitute a soup for chips, free of charge, which was super nice. The soup special was butternut squash and was very tasty. My sandwich was okay...typical bar food, good for lunch. They have a ton of beers from England too. I would highly recommend for a sports game or happy hour, not a huge fan of British food, but the place was cool!

  • Adam B.

You probably want to patronize this place for the beer foremost. The food choices seem more British than typical "British" pubs in the States; no nachos thankfully! However, the actual food preparation seems more like an afterthought than a primary draw to come here. Scotch Eggs: The eggs were completely hard boiled when the the yolk really would have been better runny (though I realize only a few places can pull that off). The sausage layer was generous. The outer layer of fried shell was thin and crispy. Decent, but not rave worthy. Twice Baked Potatoes: Very generous on the cheese, it was basically swimming in melted cheddar. The potatoes were very mushy, like they had been puréed instead of mashed, so it was a bit too soupy for my tastes. Not terribly exciting overall; seemed very common.

Was only in Minneapolis for two days. We stopped in here for our last meal. The ambiance is very lively and makes you feel like you're in a pub in England. I liked the eclectic crowd--there was a family birthday party in one room, folks watching soccer in another area, and others hanging out at the bar. It made the place feel homey. Highly recommend the Bangers and Mash.

Been here many times, but it seems that the food has gotten better lately. Went to the pole vault competition this summer and was ok with the shepherd's pie I ordered (of course the beer was delicious), but this last Sunday I had the appetizer sampler (which I shared) and the salmon salad. Appetizers were good but generally not spectacular, but the salad was fantastic. Salmon done perfectly and it has a barbecue sauce on top that wasn't heavy at all. Nice mix of greens, tomatoes, and the best was roasted golden beet slices. The topping was a meyer's lemon vinaigrette. One of the better salads I've had in a long time. Again, the beer was delicious, and dessert was above average, but nothing to write home about. I'm having that salad again though. Daughter had her usual steak sandwhich there and was happy, although I thought the fries I stole from her play were better than I remembered. All-in-all I think the place has food that's improving and, in my case, a big step up from previous visits.

I was searching for a restaurant not too far from my hotel on a wet and blustery night and saw that Brit's Pub was a popular choice in the neighborhood. I grabbed a table near the bar and enjoyed a meal while watching the football games. Cream of Tomato soup was savory and warming but the star of the show was the Guinness Pot Roast, which was absolutely delicious. The large portion of beef was tender and the sauce was so good I was trying to surreptitiously lick the bottom of the bowl. A good experience all around.

Came here and was amazed at the outside seating--absolutely lovely. Perfect sitting for late summer evening. However, the food was simply sub-par. We had an order of the spinach and artichoke dip, which came with thick slices of bread that were not conducive for the dip--although the large chunks of artichoke were a plus. The shepherd's pie was not very large and was mostly potatoes--lacking adequate amounts of meat. The drinks were strong but well mixed. Nice place for a first date over drinks but skip the food.

Never been a big fan of the pub food here (or The Local for that matter), but it's a great place to watch a soccer match and if you can get a seat on the patio (good luck if you're after 6 PM) it's one of the original rooftop delights. The lawn bowling is quirky and can be fun. I'll often choose elsewhere if it is up to me, but rarely disappointed when I end up here.

Went with a large group and rented out 2 of the lawn bowling lanes. We had a great time, the only down side is we had to stop. Its a great way to entertain and have a few drinks with an awesome MPLS skyline view.

Wonderful atmosphere here they have pretty close of what it looks like in England. We can nit pic about a few things but the staff here were engaging and friendly to talk to. The beers were great even though I wanted a John Smith bitter beer they had a lot of options that did the trick. Next time I would like to fit this place into one of my food/pub crawls in Minneapolis to sample the food. I hope they have Toad in the Hole and Yorkshire pudding when I come to visit next time!

Open early for EPL! (and also whatever football/rugby matches they televise) Brit's is in the Nicollet Mall square area, and it's easily spotted with the black facade and multiple flags adorning its exterior. It's got that old British charm about it, even from the outside, and it's a great change of pace from other bars/pubs in the MN area. Inside is all wood - your traditional pub atmosphere with a large bar (aged wood that has warped and worn with the establishment) in the front, and another one in an even deeper room. Plenty of table seating as well for those wanting to share with friends. Large TV's hang high from the ceilings, so you can catch all parts of the matches showing. I went in on a Sunday morning at 9:30 for the United vs. Arsenal match (#GGMU), and the staff was very welcoming. Set myself up at the large front bar, got my orders in, and watched the match as fellow footy fans started filing in. For matches, they have several $4 specials for drafts (Heineken, Guinness, and Crispin, I believe), but everything else on the menus is also available. Additionally they serve their full lunch menu, so I opted for the Cheese Toasty with Tomato Soup along with a Guinness. Now let me tell you, this is a proper toasty, with just the right amount of melty cheese on bite-y bread. Dip that into the tomato soup, and you've got a great combination for watching morning football. Also ordered up a Boddington's (poured very well), and all was well with the world. Can't beat the environment at Brit's during football matches. Overall really glad to have gone to Brit's on my stay out in Minneapolis, and I'll definitely be back if there's a game on.

We were in town for a wedding and decided to have lunch here as we were staying at a downtown hotel. A really good choice. Prefers the fish n'chips and my wife ordered the chicken pot pie. Both very good. A lively place and friendly service. The roof top looked and sounds great but it was a fairly warm day so we opted for an inside table close to the bar. A great selection of draft beers to choose from. They offer an afternoon tea and can't talk to the tea service itself but can say that the cup of tea ordered after our meal was mediocre food service type bagged tea. You'd think the tea would be if a higher quality. There are better options even go purchase some PG Tips tea! A definite return to place. If you're in the mood for a good Britrish type pub this is the place in the twin cities!

Once again they ruin a match day, claim they are showing a game on delay then show the back end of the highlights showing score. Then do not show the delayed game as the other match went into overtime. They sell the English element but are nothing more than American sports bar, sucking in people that want to think it's an English bar, forget it.

Bartenders are terrible and rude. If you stay for dinner and drinks the bartenders will only support and serve people who they know. Not worth your time. Not to mention, the food is awful too.

Was in town for business and there happened to be a World Cup game on. Going through the bar, to the upstairs, then to the upper deck, then to the outdoor green with a big screen and bar stations, then up to the 3rd floor upper deck I thought I was in for a real treat. The atmosphere was a 10. Although a game was going on, service was still good and got my World Cup happy hour vodka (for only $5) in quick fashion. Things were looking good. When it came to the food I had to get the Fish and Chips, since I was in a British pub. I substituted the fries for a Caesar Salad and was glad to see they offered 1, 2 or 3 pieces of fish, not a lot of places do that. I opted for 1 for around $15. Didn't notice the wait time, since the game was going on, but the service was right there asking if I needed anything. Once my meal came out the piece of fish was a good portion, but the food stopped there. The salad was wilted and the dressing just dumped on top without any mixing. Now to the fish. I took a bite and it had no flavor what so ever, although they call it the Famous Fish and Chips. It needed some salt, seasoning something. I reached for the 'house made' tartar sauce, not a good call. Frankly it tasted like blue cheese. The fish wasn't famous in my opinion and the house made tartar should stay in the house. What saves this pub is the atmosphere. Great place to watch a game, have a few drinks and get good service. Other than that the food lives up to the British theme of being so so.

MIxed impressions. Usually it's beer only at Brits 'cos everything costs more here. Today- Liverpool Steve G. farewell match- check. Old Speckled Hen on tap- check. Rockin bod of 40-something customer killing time at bar- check. $13 Tandoori chicken sandwich- no check. Overpriced. Sauce too sweet Chicken too dry. Should I expect to pay more and get less for the experience of an 'English' Pub on Nicollet avenue? No, those days are gone. There are way too many alternatives downtown and in the North Loop. I have to admit it was plenty busy at midday on a Saturday. Son liked his burger and 'chips' and server was friendly and efficient.

SERIOUSLY 13 staff members doing nothing and service is mediocre. If you have time to lean you have time to lean. The Tomato Soup is Great! The artichoke/cheese dip is good, big and filling. Their beer selection is ok - not bad, just not great!

Really great atmosphere. I had the London Broil and a side Caesar salad and a couple of Strongbow Ciders and was quite pleased. No complaints at all. Will return to see a few matches on weekend mornings. I want to try the poutine with pork belly.

I would travel many miles for the walleye pike dinner at Brit's Pub. Though most reviews talk about the British food such as Fish & Chips, nothing is as great as their Almond Crusted Walleye with Wild Rice and Mushrooms! Our waiter called it a staff favorite. The service was great by the way. I'm already thinking about next time.

Great spot! Sit outside to people watch or on the roof for lawn bowling! I had the grilled walleye and it was fantastic. It came with sautéed vegetables and wild rice. The service was friendly and prompt, even though it was a busy Saturday night. One of the best places I went on my trip to downtown Minneapolis.

Recommended to me by two different friends, so I had to stop by. It's everything you would expect from a British pub. With a coat of armour and everything. Nice selection of local and international beers. My steak sandwich left nothing to desire. Quite a trendy crowd hanging around. I recommend a visit!

Great place to watch the World Cup games and enjoy the sun on the rooftop patio. Food is OK, solid service. Lots of foreigners hang out here. Also popular spot for rugby. Fish and Chips is great, the Fish Tacos a bit boring- could use some spice. Will be back for sure. Come here for the atmosphere, not a foodie destination.

Brit's Pub is my favourite restaurant in Minneapolis. The atmosphere is just really warm and inviting, and it just feels cozy. The food is really delicious. I love the Guinness pot roast, fish and chips, London broil, bangers & mash, Sir Winston's Cheese Toasty, and pretty much everything else I've consumed there. Their beer selection is so incredibly fantastic. I love English and Irish beers the most, and they have a great selection and the beer always tastes fresh to me. I've also been to several lawn bowling events on the roof (for work events) and it's super fun to play. I haven't gone on my own for a non-work event, but I imagine it's just as fun then, too. The staff is always nice, and even when it's busy it never feels like there's a long wait for food or drinks. My only complaint is that they took the sausage rolls off the menu. I would order that every time I visited, so I'm incredibly sad that they no longer serve them.

This review is for the afternoon tea service. Here's what I liked: 1. They offer a tea service. 2. They offer it midweek. 3. One of the tea options was rose. 4. Clotted cream. 5. Tea sandwiches, scones, etc. met expectations. Here's what could have been better: 1. Hotter water for the tea. By the time it had steeped, it was no longer hot. 2. Didn't care for the big giant mugs. Would have preferred mismatched china tea cups or just smaller mugs. 3. More frequent refills of hot water. 4. Offer milk for the tea! 5. Would have been more fun to sit at the couch. If you are considering trying it with your mum or a small party, keep in mind it isn't super fancy, this is a pub after all. Personally, I wouldn't do it again. Would much rather have had a scotch egg and beer.

The venue itself gets a 4 star rating for the atmosphere and the food. However, it gets a negative 5 star for service. Our drinks were never refilled, we were never given napkins even after asking, we had to place our dinner plates on the floor so we could make room for our dessert plates. When it was time to leave we had to walk throughout the venue to find our server to get the bill. Not only was the server not attentive she was very unfriendly, it was clear she didn't want to be working. We seemed to be a nuisance in her evening.

This place was right across from work and it was a go to place. They have great drinks and it is always packed during HH time. I got their BBQ Pulled Pork sliders and they were meh. I think taht the drinks are the main stars of this place and it is just a good time with co-workers. I don't think that I would eat here and with so many places to get drinks, there isn't anything too special about this place.

I've never had any of the food so I can only go off of drinks and service. I've been to Brit's twice in the past few months and both times the service was pretty eh. I went with the boy to get a drink before a movies and music in the park and they weren't sure if they could fit us because a convention was going on. From my point of view it looked like the convention was taking up the entire upstairs/outdoors/ whatever else Brit's has because it's HUGE. However, I said if they can't let us sit at the bar, some place else will take our money, in which the host changed his mind and seated us. The table, in the pretty empty bar area, was exactly what I wanted, but what I didn't want was the wait for my drink. The server came over and unhappily asked what we wanted for a drink .Both the boy and I choose their summer concoction that you could put your favorite liquor in, me whiskey (duh) and him gin. Thank goodness this drink was both awesome, tasting great with both liquors, it was bad at $8 for a super happy summer drink. I'm pretty sure the server didn't come back so we ended up leaving money on the table and leaving, oh well, I'm sure this mysterious convention was more important. The patio wins all sorts of points, I almost want a separate review for it, but again, I'm talking service, not my future rooftop. Moving on, I went to a friends birthday party here where they had reserved a room, guess what, ANOTHER convention was going on and they forgot about this cute little birthday party. After being told multiple places that we could go (and some apparently we couldn't) having bartenders yell at us, and security guards approach us, they finally put us in a side room that didn't have service. At least we found a space and everyone was still in high spirits, but this spot is just not my cup of tea.

We stopped in here during MetaCon the other day. Very good food here. Had the fish tacos-- soo good! Tons of fish and salsa. It was very filling. Brit's has my favorite patio/rooftop in Minneapolis. We've always had great food & even better service - even on the busiest of summer days. My favorites bites from the menu are the cod pieces, fish & chips & the cricket club sandwich. I've yet to lawn bowl, so that's still on my to-do list. Anyone know if they'll be partnering with Lululemon again this year to do 'yoga on the lawn'? Hope so!

Brit's Pub, located within downtown Minneapolis' busy Nicollett Mall, is a happening place to grab a bite to eat in the early evening. Approaching this establishment on foot, you are able to see the multiple British flags they have stationed outside the building from a couple blocks away. In the warmer months, they have a plethora of outdoor seating available... during my visit it was beyond packed! Despite the after-work crowd buzzing around this high-ceiling'ed restaurant, my party of 2 was seated in no time. We sat toward the front of the dining room near the big picture window, putting us right in the path of all the suited patrons coming in and out to meet their work buddies. With the number of tables crammed into this space, it made it a bit uncomfortable to be placed in this area. This is the only reason for the 4- and not 5-star rating. Our waiter promptly greeted us and made the best of our situation. I ordered the Baked Four Cheese Penne and my dinner guest got the Cornish Pastie (a pastry envelope stuffed full of steak, potatoes, carrots, rutabega and onions, topped with real brown gravy, and served with peas... as described by their menu). The pasta definitely hit the spot. Delivered quickly and consumed just as speedily, the both of us greatly enjoyed our meals. My beer was cold and bubbly, the soccer game on above my head, and the service efficient and pleasant. I wish I had more time to visit because it seems as though this place is full of other activities and surprises. There is an outdoor rooftop bar and an English Garden Park complete with a full Lawn Bowling League to name a few. I would certainly return if ever in Minneapolis again!

Years ago when Brit's opened we would find ourselves in front of the fireplace on a cold weekday night in the big comfy chairs. Over the years I have dined outdoors, indoors and upstairs. The food is always excellent. The scotch eggs are a must. Staff is professional and when the place is packed (as it often is) drinks and food arrive fast. A well managed place. The large ceiling and pool tables upstairs make for a fun environment. The only issue for me is the location. Parking requires a lot or getting lucky and finding a street space a few blocks a way. If it was easier to park, we would be here often. In the summer, it is a nice walk. If you are staying downtown, this is a must for your lunch or dinner. Enjoy!

My husband would disown me if I did not give this place a 5 star review. We visited this place two days in a row and were delighted both times. My English husband (who has much more experience than I with this kind of stuff) just loved the atmosphere and the food. The first visit I ordered a Cornish Pasty with some of the leek soup. My husband ordered the chicken Tiki Masala. He was very upset with his choice :) Second visit I ordered the mango salad (a tad healthier than the first time!) while my husband ordered fish and chips. He claims that the fish and chips dish was one of the best he's had in ages. He cleaned the plate within minutes. The servers were excellent and friendly too. They seem to work very hard as they bolt from table to table. My only complaint? Why is this place not where I live??

I am surprised by Brit's as I associated it as a pub for drinking, soccer, and lawn bowling. Wrong I was - you can also EAT at Brit's! Hurrah! My friend is obsessed with the Scotch egg (hard boiled egg covered in sausage, breaded and deep-fried). It was greatly enjoyed by a majority of the table, though I didn't think it was anything THAT special, though I don't have an affinity for sausage or fried foods. I had the fish tacos (solid, but I've had better) and tried my friend's samosas (think Indian wontons - delicious Indian wontons). The beer, as always, was plentiful and delicious. The decor of the restaurant/bar is that of a British pub, though not as small, dark, and cramped as one that you would actually find in Britain. Or as smelly.

Steak and ale pie was delicious, as was the Harp on draught. Highly recommend this pub which spans three stories. The vibe is great and there are enough big screens strategically placed to watch the game from just about any seat.

The best part about Brit's Pub is the rooftop. They have plenty of seating and space for outdoor bowling. I think that they even show the occasional movie on a screen adjacent to the building. The food is a little pricey considering how ordinary and bland the menu items seem. I've only eaten the mango chicken salad - which is good - but nothing to write home about. Brit's is a great place for happy hour but wouldn't be my first choice for food.

My review is based in the high tea that I had with a group of 10. I've been to Brits for many happy hours and the occasional lunch and dinner it's a great spot for that as you'll see many reviews for but they also do traditional English teas. I was looking for a location to do high tea for my sister in laws sprinkle (shower for baby's after the first one). It is very hard to find places to do high tea in Minneapolis, I stumbled upon Brits after having a difficult time with lady elegants in St. Paul. I called Brits and they were very accommodating right right off the bat. Upon arriving we ere brought to a quite room to the right of the main bar. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that the room could use a good scrubbing and their were some rips/ tears in the buffet we sat at but it wasn't terrible. The tea consists of everyone being given their own pot and choice of tea. A HUGE selection assortment of scones, cheese, sandwiches, and deserts. The food and service were excellent as was the price $17.99 for adults and $9.99 for kids. Kids also get a different menu and hot chocolate but a ton of food! Great value and highly recommended!!

One of my favorite stops on my one of many tours to the Twin Cities! I love this place! We were lucky and scored a seat on the great patio! The patio is right on the street and it lends itself to great people watching! The beer selection can rival the best in town, with local brews and your favorite imports! They also have a great food menu including some English staples like scotched egg or fish and chips. The food is a little high, but come Happy Hour and all of your worries will be gone with the great specials! Try the Jameson and Ginger Ale! The interior is all dark hardwoods and décor that could rival the Queens Palace...okay not really, but is still very cool and a great place to enjoy a good beer!

Went Friday night, had a super time. We sat upstairs near the huge fireplace and listened to the Rolling Stones cover band. If I lived in MN this would so be my hangout. Food kind of unhealthy (albeit tasty), would have liked to see more veggie options 'cause after driving through WI to get here I was done with carbs and protein.

Brit's Pub was recommended as a must-visit bar in Minneapolis and after visiting on consecutive nights ... I have to agree. The outdoor lawn bowling up stairs is actually really cool. Who knew people took the "sport" so seriously? It was fun having a few drinks while hanging out and watching the teams wearing their white shirts battling it out on the green lawn. We came for the drinks and it has the usual offerings. One new drink for me was the Bootlegger which tastes like a minty lemonade (choose gin or vodka versions). For food, we snacked on Scotch Eggs (hard-boiled eggs covered with banger sausage and bread crumbs then deep-fried) and Fish & Chips. I also got the Brits Steak Sandwich which had real steak and was the best food item. Don't come for the food... come for the drinks and atmosphere. The weather was great, the vibe was cool, the service was decent, and the drinks ok (only one was really "stiff enough" though). Around 10:00 the first night, the place exploded with a lot of people as some event seemed to have just ended, but hey "the more the merrier, right?". The second night it was much calmer and relaxing. Either way, Brit's Pub is a bar worth visiting on any summers eve.

Plenty of draft beer to choose from and has a lot of outside space but the food I ate was not that good. Probably a good place to hang out and have a few drinks before going off to eat somewhere else.

Service as walk-upstairs people right towards the end of happy hour was quite good. Chips & curry provided plenty of curry but could use something lighter than the fried chips for the amount of curry. The calimari was freshly defrosted, but seriously you shouldn't expect much for that price this far inland. The basic house salad really was better than expected. No iceberg lettuce sinking it. A Friday night just for drinks was interesting. We could watch the young'uns stumble around the lawn bowling. At least they hold their drinks better than they hold their balls.

After being here three times in two days, it must be good. The shepherds pie and fish tacos both rock...I would go on to say all the food rocks. If I lived here, this would be a hangout spot. The only downfall is that it is a little on the high end price wise. But you pay for what you get.

The Brit is a very charming English Pub that I wish I could put in my pocket and place somewhere near my office so that after work or during lunchtime, I could grab a beer and watch some soccer games. I was there last Sunday, a very good day to visit this place, when the Football season was commencing. The food is average, but better than prototypical pub grub. I had a fried fish sandwich that wasn't bad. The side of chips very good and very classically English. The atmosphere is clean, perfectly laid out, and traditionally rustic looking. The interior is very much like a pub you'd find just about anywhere in England. On the roof is a huge lawn bowling area and for $5, per person, per hour, you can learn and play a very fun round of lawn bowling, a sport very similar to botchy ball with a few variations. The service is personable, reliable, and uninvasive. The atmosphere perfect on a summer day. The televisions weren't the best but there were many of them. For dessert, I had the bread pudding which I didn't think was all that special. Still all and all, a very fun and memorable experience.

We went for apps and drinks. The cod bites were very good, as was the artichoke dip. The atmosphere is sufficiently pub-like. The beer selection is alright. The mixed drinks seemed watered down. I liked the view from the top deck. It was a neat way to look at the buildings in the area. Kind of felt like an oasis among the steel and glass.

Food is 2 stars at best, however Brit's is one of the best downtown Minneapolis bars to have a post-work cocktail/beer at - especially during the summer. Their outdoor patio is awesome, and if you're looking for something different, they have lawn bowling when the weather cooperates. Brit's somehow manages to maintain popularity without succumbing to the "over-crowded drunk 21-yr olds everywhere" syndrome that a lot of Minneapolis bars seem to have lately.

Server was (Minnesota?) nice. Beer (Newcastle) was cold and tall. The burger with English blue cheese was rich and decadent (and overpriced at $15.95). I have to way that cole slaw was quite good, if you like creamy slaws. The crowd was rowdy, loud and sport-obsessed, but amiable.

As far as I knew, the only place to get scotch eggs was at the state fair. I was quite happy to see them on the menu at Brits. They were just as tasty as at the state fair too. Of course the patio is where it's at here at Brits. They even have a nice jumbo screen to show whatever sporting event is going on at the time. At some point in my life, I want to be on a lawn bowling team. And I kept finding myself staring at the grass trying to figure out how they keep it so nice and trim. Service was a bit slow. But in her defense she really had a long way to walk since the patio is so big.

5 stars for atmosphere, negative 1 star for service and another negative one for mediocre food. Great selection of beers, and lawn bowling is pretty fun! Their wings were dry, and poutine was sub par.

We were lucky enough to book at the Doubletree Suites on the same block, so we just walked here the night we flew in and enjoy a pint. We also took in the St Paddy's day parade from across the street from Brit's-people watching was pretty fun. Our last night in town, we had dinner and another pint and could not be any happier. The fish and chips were excellent. The curry was tasty. We ordered up the Royal Sampler was a great selection to have and share. I especially enjoyed the Scotch Eggs. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, as with most great pubs, and the music was nice a touch, too. (note: I'm a Cure fan girl. Boys Don't Cry was playing as we were being seated.) Just a note: Late night Happy Hour. Sun - Thur 10pm to Midnight

Gotta love ol' man Britain who's almost always there to greet you...even with his dry humor he manages to add a touch of class to this old world pub. Everything I've had at Brit's has been good, but absolutely nothing surpasses the chicken pot pie. Nearly every time I visit, it's with a group...and nearly everyone orders a chicken pot pie because they're just that good! I have also tried the scotch eggs, a soup & sandwich once, guinness pot roast and the calamari among others. I have yet to try the fish n chips, but I've heard they are the best in town. As for beer, they have quite a selection. I usually try to stick with an imported flavor, and I especially like their Crispin Velvet (Crispin & Guinness) Brit's is a great place to bring friends from out of town. I know the place can get crowded, especially on weekends during the summer or during the World Cup, but they always take care of you no matter where they manage to cram you in. The rooftop is pretty great. I especially like the top tier where you can look down over the lawn bowling area, and it's a perfect atmosphere to grab a drink after work with friends/co-workers. I live just a couple blocks from Brit's, so I try to restrain myself from visiting too often.

The Sir Winston's Cheese Toastie has my heart--and yes, it's probably because I love calling it the Sir Winston's Cheese Toastie. Order it with their thick-cut bacon and you won't be sorry--it's comfort food at its finest. In addition to your heart, however, it will also take hold of your thighs. This isn't light, greaseless food for the health-conscious set, but it's darned tasty. I'm not super-impressed with the candy sundae, but hey, it's ice cream with a lot of imported chocolate candy pieces on it. It's fun, if not that exciting. This is the place to go if you love to watch soccer on a weekend morning. Well, it's probably the place to go because it's one of the only places in town where soccer (futbol!) fans gather. Not that I'm a soccer fan, but one cannot deny the energy present during the games. It also makes a great brunch atmosphere...my husband with his it's-noon-somewhere beer and scotch eggs (which I'm weird about not trying, but he swears they're amazing). Sit outside in the summer before a Twins game (it's not that far a walk) and see if you can catch Green Day strolling by on their way to a concert. (I'm not guaranteeing this will happen to you, but I'm just saying that it happened to US.) Atmosphere!

Brit's has a great outdoor seating area good for those warm sunny MN days. It is located deep in the heart of downtown Minneapolis with a view of just that, a surounding of skyscrapers (at least what MN can muster) mixed with the hustle and bustle of Target corporate monkeys. I personally enjoy the beer selection here as there is a good variety; they have a full bar so if drinks mixed with the harder stuff is more your thing they certainly have that too. I have tried the food here a few times and have not been disappointed...that being said, I have not been blown away either. Last Monday I tried their "Asian Wings" and Fries with Curry Dipping Sauce. Their wings were of medium size, larger than those found at BW3's (not actually sure how they find chickens that small, perhaps they use chickens from "work camps"), however, smaller than one's found at Rudolph's BBQ (awesomely awesome). The wings were not overly sauced and somewhat resemble the flavor of the oyster chicken wings from Leann Chin (They use Hoisin Sauce instead which is basically sweet oyster sauce...come to think of it I'm pretty sure that is what Leann Chin uses too) which I completely welcome because I enjoy the flavor of those wings and the added nostalgia of having enjoyed these growing up as a child was a plus. The Frittes with Curry dipping sauce were excellent! I typically find most indian curries lacking finish, meaning salty, sweet or combination thereof and I thought that the curry dipping sauce at Brit's had a nice salty and sweet finish. I did think the dipping sauce could have been a tad saltier, but based on my high blood pressure the sauce was more than adequate. I have come here a few other times and the food is about what you would expect from an "English" restaurant. The pot roast burger was OK, a little on the dry side and the horsey sauce could have been a little more spicy. Located on the roof top patio area is also a well groomed "Lawn Bowling field". I have been invited to a few scheduled events, but have never actually been able to play as they are very protective of their downtown roof field and if it has rained within the past 24 hours you can almost certainly kiss your chances of playing good bye. All in all, this place earn's it's stars from ambiance. Note: I have also heard this is a good place to catch up on your FIFA soccer for all you football fans.

Came here because it was close to my hotel. Was seated right away I wanted inside seating since it was rather breezy outside. Needless to say I sat here for approximately 14 minutes before the server (Brian L. #2379) ever came to the table. He didn't have any personality didn't tell me about any specials or anything. I just ordered a the classic Burger and fries so I can eat and leave. So far my experience is regretful but I only came here because it was close by. Ok the food came out in a good time but who serve a Burger without Mayo or mustard. There was a bottle of katchup at the table after the waiter put down the food and walked off nowhere to be found I got up to get the hostess to get me some Mayo and mustard for this dry Burger. After getting that the food was mediocre at best. The waiter finally checked back to refill my soda when it was almost on empty. For an establishment with mediocre food it really needs to raise the bar on service. THE SEVICE AT THIS PLACE DOWNRIGHT SUCK... JUST HORRIBLE. They don't have to worry about me coming back to this lousy restaurant. Don't get Brian L. as your server, he is the worst.. I left him a fat .25cent tip.. because he was not worth a quarter...

We came across the place on a recommendation from hotel staff and I'm so glad we did! I had the fish and chips, it was delicious, generous portion. Malt vinegar on the table is a must! My hubby had The Beefeater sandwich, it was pot roast on a roll with horseradish mayo. I think he also had coleslaw, said everything was good. We took our little guy here early in the evening and had no problems. He seemed to like his chicken strips and French fries. We sat outside, they have a very nice patio. Walked upstairs after our meal to see the lawn bowling, probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen especially when you are surrounded by skyscrapers on all sides. They also have a huge patio out back. Really just a great place, great atmosphere, plentiful drinks. If I lived near here this would be my local hang out.

Good. Best in summer when lawn bowling and outdoor patio is open. Plenty of British beer and British food modifications. Nothing is overly wowing about the place, but it's consistent night after night.

Ahh Brit's....good idea in the summer, bad idea in the winter. The food is okay, the artichoke dip is delicious but the fries are soggy which is a pretty big deal breaker for me. The waitstaff is very unattentive, it may help if they had more servers on hand. The only redeeming quality this place has is the patio is fabulous in the summer, if you you're not in a hurry.

So this place is very large and lots of seating. The service started out slow but then was very good. The food was ok not the best. We went to brits on saturday 18. We ordered calamari and it came like fish sticks.. omg calamari sticks it was like gorton made them. Other than that the beer selection was good but it seems that the whiskey selection has decreased in quality. It seems that as a place grows in size and more people start to go they sacrifice good stuff and stock up with lots of ceep stuff.

I really like Brit's Pub - it has a large outdoor patio with a big green space where you can do lawn bowling. Occasionally they put lawn bowling on a break and put out a big screen for movies or sporting events (I went to watch a World Cup game) and then people sit out on the lawn. The view of Minneapolis from the patio is beautiful. In general, it's just a unique, interesting place to try - I'd definitely recommend checking it out. I've had lunch here once - I had the Cricket Club and really liked it. My only complaint would be that the beer is a bit expensive ($5+ per pint) and they don't usually have specials, so it's easy to rack up a bill pretty quickly if you choose this place for an evening of drinks.

Visited here several times during a recent visit to Minneapolis for a conference. This was a great place to hang out with groups of friends/colleagues. I love Brit's. They have an awesome rooftop, the food is always good - pretty decent for pub food and they have some really good curries. Recently went there to watch the World Cup soccer finals and prior to that the US-Ghana game. I was definitely impressed by the organization that they had to get food and drinks out to all those people. Yes, you had to wait in line to get drinks, but there were thousands? of people there. It was packed, the lawn was packed, the bars were packed, but at least you could still move around and get a drink! Definitely would recommend it - looking forward to shakespeare and movies coming up!

Really enjoyed our outdoor dining at Brit's Pub! Happy hour specials were perfect for family of four. Fullers ESB was terrific. Cheddar Mac and cheese bites (smoked Gouda) is a must! First time at Brits. Not my first choice but was with a few friends. I'm a vegetarian and chose to have the Vegetarian Burger. Looked like they just microwaved the burger but was told by our server that they do pan fry. Tasted mushy and not what I'm used to. Got very sick from it and still a little sick today. Service was okay, food looked great but made me sick. Will stick to a salad if I have to eat here again.

If you go here, head to the rooftop. The main bar downstairs is a typical/nice English style pub. But the best is the two-level rooftop bar. I enjoyed hanging out and watching the lawn bowling leagues. Only complaint I have is that they don't have that many craft beers. Okay, it's an English pub, so they do have Guinness and Boddingtons, so that is solid.

The patio is probably the best part of Brits. We usually bring friends visiting from out of town here. The last time we brought a friend here, our friend commented how many kids were at the bar. That was only because the Hollidazzle parade was going on. There was absolutely no where to sit. The food is really nothing to write home about. Kind of bland and boring for my taste. Ordered the caesar salad which was pretty basic. Other diners in my party ordered the Shepard Pie which they said was pretty dull. The service can be hit and miss especially on the patio and pretty much the case when its busy. More of a place for the atmosphere. Brits had its good points. We all just kind of found it somewhat dull.

I have been to this place numerous times. It is close to the hotel I stay in during my annual convention. I love the decor and feel of this place. It feels just like a pub, and if I lived in Minneapolis I would be here often. Drink: - I only ever have Crispin here because I cannot get that in Virginia on tap. It's the best cider! (in my humble opinion) Food: - salads are very fresh and very good. I have ordered a small from the menu and the size is enough to act as a meal with a cup of soup - Tomato soup is awesome! Love it and have it at least once every year upon my return - Penne Pasta with Cheese: This is cheesy goodness. It was really good and had a unique flavor. The bacon on top was too crispy for my liking, but I would absolutely order this again. I have been here twice this week because of its convenient location, and the cozy fireplace they have. Also, windows in the main bar give you a chance to look outside and see people passing by. Great for a quick bite. Maybe someday I will travel here during a warmer season to check out the patio.

This is the first place I was taken out to in Minneapolis. I must say, it was as if I woke up into a dream and found myself in a restaurant in England. Very classy interior, good atmosphere and great service. The food got out super quickly, they had a great selection of beers.

For a place that calls itself the #1 Newcastle draught pub in the nation they have a terrible pint of Newcastle. It was served in the wrong glassware, (a lager glass rather than a schooner) it was poured incorrectly, (they set the glass flat on the bar and pulled the tap like they were topping off a Guinness rather than doing a 45 to 90 continuous pour) and it was too warm, and thus flat. They seriously need to respect the beer better. I also ordered the fish and chips, the fries were a food service product, not fresh and the fish came out way too greasy and overcooked. In summation: bad beer, advertising lies, and poor food. Would not try again.

As an actual Brit I feel I can make comment on the authenticity of this place. The beer they stock (fullers) is one of my favorite bands and a very popular choice in the uk. I couldn't tell any difference between a pint poured here to over in England - it was fantastic. London pride is a great choice for anyone and I would also recommend any of the other fullers beers. The food was equally as good. Although having a 'British' feel to the menu it was more Americanized than expected. This isn't a bad thing in my opinion just something people may want to be aware of. The fish and chips I found to be excellent and would highly recommend. The layout of the place is what really endeared me. It features a great deal of authentic British memorabilia and looks fantastic. I have to agree with may of the comments about the upstairs lawn area - is a real stunner. I have been told they sometimes project movies onto an adjoining wall from up here too in the summer. I really enjoyed this place and will certainly be headed back soon, especially for the beer.

First of all the set up of Brit's is wonderful, especially the rooftop! The food is mediocre and a bit over priced. I realize it's in a great location downtown Minneapolis but for the quality of the food it's not worth the price. I will definitely come back for drinks but not for the food.

Would give 0 stars if possible!!! Was seated, but then completely ignored. Tables around me got service. Not busy at 4:30 on a Tuesday - plenty of servers on hand and I was looked at a couple times, but no one came. As I told the group of servers standing around and the hostess I was leaving due to NO service (verses poor service) no one seemed to care. Don't waste your money at a place where they don't care if they get your business or not.

Brit's Pub has a very interesting rooftop area with lawn bowling. It is a great place to be out on sunny afternoon with some chilled beer and friends. I ate the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich and it was extremely delicious. I am almost tempted to go back to Minneapolis for it...

It's the beginning of March and I am beginning to have full on seasonal affective disorder. I NEED to be able to drink outside again, and Brit's is one of my favorite patios in the city. First off, it's huge. Multi levels all overlooking the huge lawn bowling greens (is that what you call them?). I've never lawn bowled here before, but it's fun to watch on a nice day. This space is also used for movie nights, Olympics and soccer- er, football- showings, and more. Lululemon has even sponsored a few outdoor yoga sessions out here. There are a bunch of seating options- the nice, comfy Adirondack chairs upstairs are my favorite for just chilling and drinking- there's a bar upstairs too, so that's a good option if you don't want to deal with having to wait for a server- sometimes I feel like they are understaffed by a lot. As for food, I've had the spinach dip and the Scotch eggs here before. I had actually never had Scotch eggs before, so I don't know how these compare (kind of a weird food, really...) but they were pretty good! I liked the spinach dip too, I just don't think it's amazing. The beer list has options to suit everyone and their happy hour is a relatively good deal. The best part of the Brit's experience, though, has to be the happy hour. Can't get enough of relaxing with friends on one of Minneapolis' greatest patios.

Brit's is really cool and I think everybody should go check it out at least once. It would get a higher rating from me if it was not so damn busy all the time and I could actually enjoy it. They have a awesome rooftop and do lawn bowling---they also have a huge screen with soccer games...and this is the place to go if you like to talk soccer They have decent beer and liquor available and decent food. It is usually a madhouse though and that isn't relaxing to me in any way shape or form.....

We had a fun time here! We were in town for a wedding and I have seen this place mentioned a few times before so wanted to give it a try! I can't remember what brews we tried, but we started with the scotch eggs, which I've never had before. I really liked the taste of them, but can't really compare them to experience. The husband had the fish and chips which were really well prepared and I got a pot pie. My meal was SO good. It was also really large so it because magnificent drunk food the next day after the wedding. We would definitely come back here if we were in the area again. Fun atmosphere and friendly service.

I ordered the bangers and mash, my wife ordered beef stew. Both were delicious, nice portions and served with a smile. Thinking about the food is putting a smile on my face.

This was the first stop after my girlfriend and I checked into our hotel and I have to say, Brit's is definitely a 4-star establishment in downtown Minneapolis.. The decor and ambiance of the place vividly reminded us of London.. From the food to the little details on the walls, Brit's transports you across the Atlantic with one order of the menu.. The only thing American is the prices.. You won't have to pay Great British Pounds through the nose for their delicious lunch specials.. Nope, just under $10 will get you fed and fed well! The service was also on point and made for a great introduction to the Twin Cities for us warmblooded Californians.. Cheers Brit's!

I visited Brit's Pub three or four times during my recent trip to Minneapolis, even spending New Year's Eve there. The food and drink were consistently delicious, and the social atmosphere, whether during a football game (Liverpool!) or simply during the day by the fire, was convivial. My friends and I could pass the time drinking our Guinnesses or Fullers selections while discussing the finer points of the Rolling Stones oeuvre or even singing them together. Around Christmas, a group of families passed through the bar singing carols to keep their kids entertained. What fun, indeed! Despite the awesomely loud music from A Hard Day's Night at New Year's, Brit's staff kept the service quick and friendly throughout the night; I haven't had as much fun on NYE in ages. Minneapolis' tourism website actually touts Brit's as a Must See attraction in town, and I couldn't agree more.

Last summer, we went to Brit's for the movie on the lawn night: When we arrived at 8 pm, Brit's was still full of happy hour groups and dinner patrons. We headed straight up the stairs to the patio to grab our seats. Even at 8 pm, the lawn begins to fill up with last-chance movie goers like us. I'd suggest getting there by 8 pm or earlier to claim your territory, enjoy a drink, and meet some new neighbors. Without really thinking through the movie setup, I kept my skirt on from work and didn't bring a blanket. Luckily, Kristin came prepared with a picnic blanket to share. We went in shifts to go grab a drink, knowing our spot might be claimed if we left. When it was my turn to grab a beer, the patio attendant directed us to the upstairs bar--no line at all. By habit, I ordered without asking about specials. Summit EPA ($5.50). Not bad for a drink downtown. Second time around I was smart enough to ask: Heineken, Amstel Light and Newcastle, $4 on tap. We all settled back down on the lawn. Lady-movie-goers, heels are not allowed on the turf so I'd suggest wearing flats...Sarah and Kristin learned the hard way. I suppose you boot-wearing men should also take note. The movie started up a little late, around 8:40. The sound was surprisingly great and the backdrop was picturesque. The movie was projected onto the side of the Double Tree Hotel building and to the left you see a beautiful apartment building covered with ivy. The small-town charm of movies outside is well translated to this urban excursion. Sure beats AMC. I was so glad we made the Monday Movie happen once before the cold MN weather hit. The summertime high was infectious and it was a cheap night out. Parking, entertainment, beverages and food all for under $20. I hope to get one more viewing in this season if we can find a movie my husband is interested in.

ya know what? there is really no reason for me to be reviewing this place. If you're going to go, then go. If you don't want to go, there are 27 other places within a mile of this place to choose from. Decisions to make when going to Brits: Is there a futbol match taking place? If you answer 'yes' then plan on this place being packed. If 'no' you might find a table. 2. Are they showing a movie up on their lawn roof? if 'yes' then plan on getting cozy with some people you've never met and most likely will never see again (and bring a blankey). if 'no' then you might find a table. 3. Do you want to eat food? If 'yes' then don't go on a Friday or Sat night. In fact, if you're wanting to eat dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, you're a moron if you are going to try going to a Pub or Bar of any sort. Find a restaurant, make a reservation and go eat. Then come to Brit's for some lagers. The service is great, prices aboot average and well, it's an established futbol tavern.

Great beer selection. Good food choices. Great atmosphere. Good staff. Great patio on Nicollet Mall. We found ourselves here on a nice summer day in 2012 and had really nice fish 'n' chips and a few beers. Attentive staff and great food and drinks. All in all, a really nice experience!

We couldn't have been more delighted in a place to have dinner at. Our group having just arrived into Minneapolis came across this place walking to the hotel. The place has both indoor and outside seating, but the best part of it was upstairs outside overlooked their English Bowls pitch with various teams playing and drinking beer. There were a large variety of beer being served and the menu leaned toward very British fare. We started with the Chips (Fries to us Yanks) w/Tikka Masala sauce, it was a great change of pace. A couple us than ordered the Cornish Pastie, which is a meat and potato fill turnover/pie item. The place has several areas for parties or company get-togethers and it maintains a lively atmosphere.

I've now dined at Brit's several times - each of them really pleasant. Especially to unwind after a long day at the office. DIning room is nice enough with relaxed atmosphere - pretty casual dress. Several flat screens around to watch shows - they seem to run local games as well as soccer and BBCA (Top Gear was on the last time I was in there upstairs.) Their happy hour is pretty great - 4 dollar beers (some of them "premium" sorts of imports that are usually expensive) and generous appetizers for significant discounts. For example, the humorously named "Cod Pieces" are effectively large chunks (instead of fillets) of their fish-and-chips style fish. The portion is I would imagine enough fish for a hungry person. No chips tho so if you're making that your protein, you might want to add chips on the side. The only real downside is they don't appear to put their UK imported beers on the happy hour. And as one would expect in such an establishment the bartenders know how to pull a decent Guinness. Their fish and chips are nearly as good as any I've had in the UK. Well, their fish is, anyway. Batter is pretty thin and crispy and well cooked. The fries are.. well, nothing to write home about. Pretty stock. But the fish is great. Here's another smaller point - their tartar sauce is apparently made in-house and it is surprisingly really good. And you should know - this is coming from someone who hates all mayo-based condiments. It's that good - even I eat it. I've also tried their potroast sandwich. That was a first on me - potroast chunks are not exactly sandwich friendly if you're trying to stay neat. But it was tender and very hearty. I would definitely eat there again - and have several times.

A decent local spot, it's mainly good for happy hours and attracts the after work downtown crowd. It's decorated in a cool, British inspired way, so it doesn't have a "chain/bland" feel to it.

Stopped in for an early solo dinner on a business trip and instantly fell in love with this place. I ordered a pint of Bass to start and received a perfectly hand pulled 20 oz. pint. I have a thing for trying fish and chips just about any time it's offered - and they do it really well here. Can't speak to the tartar sauce - I didn't try it because that's just blasphemy - malt vinegar all the way baby! Service was friendly enough - but I felt like he wanted to turn my table because I was just a table of one. Didn't even ask me if i wanted a second pint before handing me the bill! I'm in town for 5 more days and already know I'll be back!

We only stopped in for drinks but this seems to be a great place (love the lawn area upstairs, nice urban use of a roof). Quick service and a great selection of beer makes this a nice place to hang out for a little while.

Stopped by on the way to dinner and ended up not leaving! We were looking for a place to watch the game prior to going to dinner. Greeter at the front found us a place in the bar with good view of huge TV. Beer was cold and service was excellent. Our server made suggestions of what to eat and the corn beef won tons were really good. Had several apps, all was good and ended up not going to dinner.

Probably the chillest place in Minneapolis to grab a drink at night after work shenanigans. They have a huge rooftop area when good weather permits. There is also a lawn on the roof where you can play lawn bowling, which is pretty sick and fun when drunk. Crowd is really chill, and downstairs area is pretty divey and laid back. Drink prices are pretty standard, but I love the atmosphere. Decent selection of taps. Knock it down a star because they seem shortstaffed at times.

Brit's is an awesome downtown institution. Top notch pubfoods are available that are shockingly authentic. This place is so authentic, they have a bowling green on the roof of a neighboring building that you can survey upon exit on the second floor. If you were so inclined, you could join a team and get demolished by UK imports that have been bowling slightly before leaving their mothers wombs. It is a upscale fairly refined professional group feel here as imported tastes are not for everyone. The after work suit-and-tie clique can be found here in spades.

Been to Brit's Pub roughly a dozen times over the last 3 - 4 years and have yet to have a regretable experience. In the spring, summer or fall you can't find a better location for outdoor dining day or night on Nicholet Mall or anywhere downtown Mpls. From lawn bolling or watching a 'proper football match' or rugby on the roof to enjoying a pint cider or Guinness on the front patio as the echoing of clip-clopping horsedrawn carriages bounce off the downtown buildings in the background. In the winter get to Brit's early to get a window seat for a great view of the the Holidazzle parade on Saturday evenings as it passes in front of Brit's on Nicholet. Brit's Fish and Chip is a the BEST in the TCs. Light and delicious. Nothing short of excellent. Shepherds pie, bangers and mash, Scotch egg will not disappoint. The English LOVE their potatoes & its evident with each dish I've ordered. The friendly bartenders are knowledgeble, efficient and the wait staff is usually on top of things unless the place is packed which happens now and then & is understandable especially during sporting events. Fox Soccor Plus Satilite broadcasts rugby or football (most often mutted) throughout the establishment. The dessert menu is, I hate to say, very lacking & very limited. The creme brulee was very nice but the ice cream w/English candy is NOT great. In fact, I've never seen something like it on any menu when I've been in southern England - so if it's not necessarily authentic or wonderful why not replace it? Dinner for two: two starters, two entrees, 3-4 ciders, 4-5 pints Guinness, one shared dessert about $80+tip

hmmm...it's bizarre that I've never written a review for this place after living here for almost 5 years. I guess that's because it is such a standard for those who work and live Downtown. Anyways, here are some highlights: 1) The lawn in the Summer is awesome. 2) The bar upstairs is pretty cool. 3) The burgers are decent. As are the scotch eggs and newly added mini chicken sandwiches (could be defined as sliders I think). 4) Saturday and Sunday morning soccer. Lowlights: 1) Service is sometimes slow when the place is really busy. 2) I see too many people from work here.

  • Jennifer H.

I've never had a bad experience here, but now that I think about it I've always gone with a large group of people so it's been totally easy to ignore everyone not in my group. This is the place we always take out of town visitors in the summer. I dig the beer selection. I've had quite a few things off the menu and they've all been good. There are a lot of vegetarian options. Lawn bowling is a hoot and only gets better with more alcohol. The service has never fallen below "OK." Maybe I'm just lucky?

Great to sit outside and have a good beer kinda place. Lots of outdoor seating. Food is OK but I come here after work in the summer. You can sit and watch bands at Peavey Plaza. British older man that works the door is a perv. Fun trivia, too.

Not so hot. Wouldn't go again. Once, sat outside with a really bad Chicken Caesar. Other time, got a little drunk on rum and coke on the roof. Nice location, but no repeat performance.

Here's the thing about all the British and Irish pubs I've been to in the downtown area: Decor and vibe - authentically passable as "across the pond." Other clientele - generally not so much. I don't know what it is about pubs from the British Isles that brings out the out-of-control fratboy-on-spring-break in so many people, but Brit's is no different. To be fair there are also a lot of professionals that come in for a pint after work in one of the nearby towers, but there just seem to be so many loud white baseball cap wearers as the night goes on (disclaimer: I have nothing against white baseball caps if they are worn on a sober head - they just seldom are). Also, on summer Saturdays it seems that for whatever reason (the shared wall with the Doubletree Inn perhaps?) Brit's is a pretty popular place for bachelor/bachelorette parties. So I don't go on weekends anymore. "That sounds like only one star, Kev," you may say. But here's why it is not: The food. I am the grandson of a Vermonter from English ancestral lines, and not even he could make such a savory pastie. Also the curry is a notable gem. They have a commendable collection of taps, and the rooftop is a really pleasant place to kill an evening or take in a movie when it isn't overrun by drunks. I've got a couple of friends getting married here in the private space upstairs next spring, so I may amend this review once I can experience the place without the intrusion of strangers to my evening's revelry, but for now a solid three stars - good food, great space, poor vibe received from fellow drinkers.

Brit's Pub is a place for the gang to grab a few beers. Nice outdoor area on top with an authentic take on the city. If the stomach starts to grumble, their fare is tasty with flavor.. so I would take this to actually resemble food from jolly ol' England..Maybe... Decent place to stop in a on a breezy night when you want a couple more drinks to take you three sheets to the wind.

Yelp's description of a two star rating "Meh". Two stars it is for Brit's. The atmosphere is pretty dope. The warm fireplace makes you feel all snuggly in the winter, and the outdoor bowling green is really what keeps us coming back. One of the coolest places to catch a bite to eat in Minneapolis during the summer. That being said, the food ranges from average to pretty poor. Some of our friends rave about the food here, so I thought that maybe we just caught them on an off night the first couple times we ate here. Nah, it's really just not that good. I've never been impressed by anything that has come out the kitchen, and usually it is dissapointing. I ordered their Stilton burger once. The burger came out dry, and the cheese was NASTY! I get it, Stilton is a strong (some might say stinky) cheese. I love strong cheese. This cheese was seriously horrible. The breading on the fish and chips I ordered was soggy, and the chips (fries) just average. I have ordered their Scotch Eggs a couple times and those were pretty good, however the dipping msotly tasted like mayo from Sysco. The bar is nice and I would still reccomend stopping by for a drink on the lawn.

If you look at my other reviews, you'll notice that a place that has tons of beer on tap really gets my attention and this is no exception. Thursday night was crowded, but service was good (but not great) anyway. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced (compared to other markers). I loved the outdoor area w/ lawn bowling. I had overall a pleasant experience and would love to go back again.

Love the outdoor seating. Most places with outdoor seating, it's a couple tables thrown on the sidewalk or a deck that overlooks a parking lot or a street. Here it's an actual rooftop deck that overlooks the lawn bowling area. Very nice!

One of the best bars in Minneapolis. I was last there about a year ago on a tirp home. It is a little expensive, but the beer isn't to be found just anywhere. Service could be faster, but if the beer is good I don't mind so much. I like the Scotch Eggs, great for breakfast, but just as good to start a night of drinking. Nice to see they have Stella now.

We went for lunch, and were less than impressed. The fish and chips were pretty good, but the salmon salad was bland. They did have small selection of great beers. The high price of the food was definitely out of balance with it's mediocre quality. I'd go for a beer, but not much else.

  • Midori G.

First off, this is a 3.5 star review, only because our server let us order off of the kid's menu. It is not a 4 star review, because the food was perfectly average, and the beer selection lacking, considering that I had heard of everything on the menu with the exception of the cider that I ordered purely because it was new to me. Moreover, my friend and I were seated in an essentially deserted area (despite the patio upstairs and downstairs being packed), but I think that was because we were ordering food at 10PM. We also decided that the crowd was too old for us (we're 21 and 22) and doubt either of us would come back save for some lawn bowling.

This is a great place to eat and go for drinks. The atmosphere is laid back. It is always packed but if you can get a table, it's a great place. They have lawn bowling on the roof too. I have always been able to get a drink very quickly and they have many beer options. In the summer, they have a great patio too. The food is wonderful! Try the fish and chips or the turkey burger. I have tried both and they were amazing.

as an out of towner in minneapolis for a wedding, i will say i thought brit's was perfect. the rehearsal dinner took place upstairs in a private room which was beautiful, on top of being large enough to hold a family as large as ours (my aunt has 9 kids JUST on her side). the food was great (not sure if it was catered by someone else though) and set up very nicely. there was a fireplace (perfect since it was about 40 degrees that night), but i imagine in the summertime this place is kickin' since theres lawn bowling on the roof (so i hear at least). the drinks were great and the bartenders were nice to boot. anyone who can put up with 75+ people at a dress rehearsal dinner is 4 stars in my book!!

they don't really have happy hour deals, and their food sucks. i've never had anything here that i ever wanted to eat again. total downtown crowd hangout any weekday after 4:30pm. but go grab a seat on the rooftop if you can find one and have some beers in the sun. or, go there on a chilly winter night and cozy up with the rest of the crowd. basically, don't eat the food, and you'll rate them higher than 2 stars.

let me start off by saying i like brits, ive been to brits several times now and have enjoyed my experiences. i decided to wait until experiencing brits after a world cup match (england vs usa) to write my review about brits. overall watching futbol at brits especially a world cup match is pretty exciting. there are a lot of people so if you want a good spot to watch a match you need to get there several hrs before the match actually begins. i did just that and got a nice spot right in front of a flat screen telly in the long room (room with the pool tables upstairs). as the match got closer to the start we needed to flag down a waiter to get a manager to switch it to the correct channel. not sure why this wasnt automatic on brits part but the manager finally came and switched the channel. unfortunately the manager did not change it to the hd abc channel and the picture quality sucked. this was a major blunder on the managers part in my books to have an hd tv but not properly put the match on an hd channel which all the other tv's were on. another strike against brits during this world cup match was that the tv in the long room was ~5-6secs delayed compared to all the other tv's therefore whenever anything exciting happened during the match we would hear the crowd cheer before we saw what happened. the delay along with the poor picture quality kind of made the match unviewable sadly. so be warned, if you decide to go brits for a world cup match or any other sporting event stay very far from the long room tv because its just not worth it. concerning the food, to me the beer and the service are the reasons you go to brits, not the food. i have had the fish and chips, chicken curry and their cheeseburger, out of the three only the cheeseburger left me satisfied. i was not impressed with the other two. fyi if you ask for a side of ranch they charge you 0.50, this was a surprise since so many other places provide this free of charge. it was kind of a turn off that brits is pretty picky about little things. overall ill probably be back for the beer (they have tetleys on tap) and futbol and leave the food alone. if you havent been to brits and your in the mood for some english fare give them a try.

The food here was unremarkable. Normal pub fare with a decent beer selection made it my first lunch while in Minneapolis (plus, it was in walking distance from the convention center). I tend to also check out places that seem to be full--and this place was full to the brim. Perhaps that is why I was so disappointed by the quality. The server was very overworked and it took over 15 minutes to get my receipt--granted I did ask for two separate ones, one for my alcohol and one for the food (somehow I don't think my university would've paid for my beers!) and I guess that was too confusing. In the end, I had to hunt him down and just paid cash so I'd make to my next meeting on time. There are definitely better places to check out in the area, but if you have a group of people with bland tastes, this is definitely a place to check out.

Such a unique place. Had a delicious dinner with friends, Guinness pot roast was a winner, as was the hard cider. We had benn looking for some hard cider and finally found some! The atmosphere was genuine British pub, and if it wasn't for the thunderstorm/tornado warning we would have sat outside, but it was still a great experience.

being new to minneapolis and there for just a few days, i decided to wander down the nicollet mall until i found a restaurant that looked intriguing. when i walked past Brit's i thought, "ooh, i could go for some hard cider" (i don't drink beer, and i wasn't really in the mood for hard alcohol) and made my selection on that basis alone. i must say, for a decision based on such a trivial characteristic, it turned out really, really well. i was totally unsure of what to eat, being torn between my love of buffalo wings and feeling like i should order something british, and so i asked the waiter for recommendations. he suggested the fish tacos, which i normally would not have picked out, but i went with 'em anyway and they were delish. the fish was grilled, not fried, and was so light; there was a plentiful amount of avocado; and the salsa gave it a perfect tanginess. it was all very tasty -- as was my cider -- and the bailey's irish creme cheesecake that i decided to treat myself to was also yummy. all in all, i'd say the food was 3 1/2 stars, nothing to write home about but definitely satisfying, and the very nice (and cute! though young, i think) waiter earns the extra half a star because he was very friendly and smiling the whole time. good stuff.

I may be biased...as I came here will all Irishmen and Scots. This will make any Pub more fun that it would have been. A great selection of single malt scotch, imported beer, and authentic Irish food. I had the Shepard's Pie...scrumptious!

Brit's pub is great. They have a lot of goings ons and the food is not bad. They have movie nights (I saw Hitchhilker's Guide to the Galaxy there one night) and lawn bowling on the roof! What I discovered today is that on Sundays they have INSANELY good deals. I got a delicious Tandoori Chicken pita for only 5 dollars. To quote "reading rainbow," you don't have to take my word for it...but the fact that the british guy sitting behind me complimented the cook on the british food really says a lot. The only reason I give it three stars is because the service can be a little slow at times. We actually had to steal our silverware from a different table, and once it took a bunch of us a half hour to get our bill. However, we still go because the atmosphere and food are both pretty good.

We ended up here because it was really close to our hotel and because a friend of ours highly recommended the steak. The steak turned out to be just OK because it was a bit on the sweet side. The food was pretty good but not excellent. The service was great and the British guy which I assume was the owner was really cool!

I came here with 3 other people on Saturday for dinner and drinks. I had only been here one other time, and that was several years back. I had no complaints on the first visit. While I like the look of the place, and I like that it attracts all types and ages of people, I have to say, the service SUCKED. Our waitress was no where to be found most of the time we were there. We were constantly looking for her for a refill or to order our food and then to order desert. She never once came to our table without us calling her over. She was very unattentive, and not real friendly. The food was ok, but WAY over priced for bar food. I got $15 mac & cheese. It was called 4 cheese penne, but it was NOTHING more than fancy mac & cheese, and wasn't that good. Everyone else liked what they ordered though. All in all, I did have a good time even though the service was bad. I will come back without hesitation, but I do not think I will have dinner here again. I will stick to drinks only.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities. I like everything about it. They have great British beers like Fullers ESB and Boddingtons! I love their rooftop deck, but their dining hall is great too. They have flags from the British empire and the Queen nods approvingly on your meal. I love their food as well. They have a selection of pub fare. They do it quite well. I especially enjoy their pub pies like shepherd's pie and cornish pasty. I also enjoy the side dish mushy peas and their cock-a-leek-e soup is pretty good too. I also like sitting out on their street side tables and looking up at the beautiful IDS tower and Minneapolis skyline. In the summer they have the Viennese sommerfest in nearby Peavy Plaza so it can be quite busy but filled with great music! Throughout the rest of the year they usually play brit-pop and that's quite fun as well. It has one of my favorite bathrooms... they have Andy Capp cartoons! It can get kind of filled with douchy investment bankers... but that's the only downside.

This is a fun place to take a group on the Nicollet Mall to eat pub food, but let's face it, your main reason to be here is not the food, it is to drink and socalize! Britain isn't known for its food. This place has many of the basic favorites: Fish and Chips, Bread Pudding, Pot Roast, Pot Pies, Bangers and Mash, etc. No Prime Rib, more modest food, but Tandoori chicken and poor wonton like Somosas. Good selection of beers from the UK, but served cold American style. Casual food, casual atmosphere, bordering on 20's - 30's pick-up place on Friday and Saturdays. Youthful staff a bit unpolished in skills, sort of like TGIF, with more humor than professionalism

I love this place. I lived in Minneapolis last summer, it was so nice to go there to grab some food and to sit at their outdoor seating area in a nice summer afternoon!

I consider this place rather overpriced for the same beer you can get some place else. Yeah, that's right, I'm drinkin' my usual Black & Tan. Patience, my dear. The service has always been painstakingly slow. You can actually find a seat and still wait 20 minutes for acknowledgment. *sigh* I have a newfound respect for this place after being dragged by my MCTC microbio lab partner for a nearby brew stop. Patio dining can be enjoyable for people watching, especially with a Cricket Club in hand. The smoked turkey, pepper jack cheese and hickory-smoked bacon with lettuce, tomato and a spicy Dijon mayo on sourdough toast really hits the spot! Couldn't tell ya about those crazy Scotch eggs as I don't eat eggs in any way, shape, or form. They do seem to be a rarity on a Minneapolitan menu and I hear that they are the bomb.

Brits is my favorite place to get a drink in the summer time. Watching lawn bowling on the roof top in downtown Mpls with some ice cold suds just can't be beat. Ive never eaten more than just appetizers here, but the atmosphere in the summer time is good enough for me. During other months Brit's doesn't have much to offer than just an average bar.

Got the Fish and Chips and a few beers. Beers were good, chips were good, fish was definitely nothing special. I got extra chips though because I liked them enough.

In a land often compared to little Scandiavia, Brits offers a bit downtown Minneapolis a different flavor! I have been going there as long as i can remember for food (especially fish and chips!), beer, pool, darts and lawn bowling! It is both a great date spot and a great spot to take hang out with the guys (or gals or both). So if you are beyond the campus bar years and are not uptight enough to go to the new trendy martini bar in town - give brits a try - it will feel like home (including really great leather lounge chairs).

this a a great place to get good British food and beer. its a 2 floor bar the first floor has places to eat and drink and a room to watch the soccer and rugby games, the second floor has more places to eat and drink and pool tables. and a huge patio where you can play lawn bowling. and another bonus is the street it is on is close to the public except buses and cabs . if you go the Minneapolis you should go to this bar

Service is alright. Food is alright. Patio is large and very unique with lawnbowling!! I go for atmoshpere. Be forwarned that drinks are GROSSLY overpriced. Actually, this is one of the more expensive bars in town. I ordered two shots and one drink and my tab was almost $30. What did I order? Two liquid viagras (aka yag bombs) and one stoli red bull. Other bars would've used ONE can of Redbull, not THREE like Brits.

This spot gets high marks for originality and uniqueness. Whether you are on one of their MULTIPLE patios (out front, lawn level, and veranda) or in any of the inner chambers (upper bar, lower bar, event space, more??) you are likely in a space that is fun and comfortable with a view. Lawn bowling is a fun novelty but it is not the only thing the lawn is used for. Brits also shows live soccer games, some even projected on a neighboring building while one sits on the patio or lawn. But my favorite experience by far was seeing Shakespeare on the Lawn. Last note: notice the puns on the menu for an added treat.

I love pubs. I do not love Brits. Huge letdown after all the hype I heard. Brits has one thing going for it, the rooftop, and they even screw that up. We quickly found a table on the roof, the place is huge. We ordered our pints. They came out a bit too quickly for my liking. A pub that can't pull a proper pint of Guinness isn't much of a pub in my eyes. My wife had a Stella and she said it tasted a bit off. We ordered the sampler platter and a couple of meals. The sampler platter also came out super fast... As in, it's been under a heat lamp for the past 30 minutes hoping someone would order it fast. Everything on the platter sucked. Chicken tenders were completely flavorless and soggy. Scotch eggs just tasted stale, possible freezer burned. Everything was supposed to be crunchy but it all just flopped and wilted when we picked it up. I will say my burger was very good, but at $17 it was about $5 overpriced. My wife got the fish and chips. Again, a pub should be able to do fish and chips right. Soggy is not right. The rooftop should be nice on most nights. Our night was super humid and a few fans would have helped the cause, but I don't think Brits cares. My guess is they stopped caring years ago.

We spent one pretty fun night at Brit's pub. We'd already been to the Twins game, so we were there only for drinking and socializing, so I can't speak to the food. We started at the main bar, enjoying the UK beverages - beer and cider of most British names available on draft. The place is well-decorated to make you feel as if you're in a pub, with plenty of flags, coats of arms, football banners, royal memorabilia, etc. Only the spaciousness makes you think you're not. On a late Friday night, there were plenty of seats and lots of room for our group of 20 or so. They've also got plenty of TVs showing various sporting events with ads for future matches and tournaments. I wouldn't mind coming back to catch some British sport action. After spending a good hour inside, we moved upstairs to the patio. The main feature is the impeccable bocce court on the roof, which we didn't get to spend any time on due to the super intimidating bouncer who's sole responsibility was to keep folks like us from messing it up after a few pints. I'm told by one of my friends in the area that they project movies on to the wall of the Double Tree next door and allow patrons to view from the rooftop, but I can't confirm that. Even though we couldn't enjoy the amazing lawn, we did enjoy the atmosphere surrounding it.

Stumbled into Britt's while visiting Minneapolis. Good service, nice outdoor seating area, and the fish & chips were excellent although I would say that that the menu is on the expensive end for pub food. Very nice selection of beer on tap.

I love Brit's Pub! I wish I could go here every weekend. Very much on par with authentic pubs in good old England when I was there. They have excellent fish and chips. Chips are not chips like Americans know it, they are what Americans call French Fries. When I moved to this country, this was the biggest confusion I saw amongst the locals. Nevertheless, they have very tasty food here and I want to go back to try out more dishes. Another similar favourite - O'Donovan's Irish Pub a few blocks away. It's really a toss up between these two for me, I love them both! Love how they have Bowls on the roof (Lawn bowling) Very traditional! It adds something very special to this pub for the area.

Boy was I glad I stopped by this place for food and drinks. Went in thinking this place was just going to be some plain bar food like wings, burgers, and appetizers. But the place surprised me with a long extensive menu that included pot roast, chicken tikki masala, chicken shwarma, cornish pasty, etc. I had a hard to trying to decide what to get because everything sounded so good!. Anyways, I ended up with pot roast and my friends got pasty, burgers, and the chicken tikki wrap. They were all good as I had a bite or two of each. So I can safely say that most food here will be quite satisfying. The type of food here is comfort food though. It's not going to be fancy with a drizzle of bright sauce here and there with leafy greens that you've never heard of. As for drinks, I had the ginger ale with jameson (two tall glasses full) which got me a good buzz for the next adventure. (Will be yelping about it soon) All in all, great place for a large group that want to get food and drinks before going out downtown or uptown in Minneapolis.

My husband and I went to Brit's on Sunday, 6/30. It was Pride Weekend and the place was packed. We got a table outside. The waitress in our section was simply overwhelmed. She did tell us that they were short staffed, so it was her and one other waitress for the entire patio. I'm not sure if she was new, but she was having issues getting orders correct, but it was very obvious she was struggling. The host did nothing to help her. He could have brought tables napkins and flatware, we finally had to go up to the host station and ask. He could have brought water around, nothing. They finally brought out two bus boys to clean off tables, but again, that is pretty much what they did, clear off tables I understand being short staffed, but if that was case, they should have closed off sections or something. It was not a good experience.

I might give the Local a leg up; perhaps I'm biased as an Irishman. Brit's is solid, good food, good selection of beers on tap - shout out for showing UK sport on the tele. I'd up to 4 stars if the wait staff didn't have such obvious disdain for Target team members, who probably provide 50% of their revenue stream. Kudos that they donate the cider and hot chocolate to the Hotseats at Holidazzle.

On a recent Saturday evening, I was there on their sidewalk patio to enjoy a beverage with friends before going to see the MN Orchestra perform Beethoven's 5th. We sat at a table next to their planter/barriers. They reeked of the smell of urine. Gross. Service was alright, nothing notable. Prices were alright for downtown. People watching is good, however, and we got to hear the live music going on across the street (during Aquatennial).

4-stars for a one time visit without trying any of the food seems a little bold BUT I had a great experience here Summer 2011 (or I'm just a generous yelper). I stopped here for a few birthday drinks with a group of ten and ended up playing a few games of lawn bowling too. Their rooftop is nice and spacious, so you're not sitting arm-to-arm with the table next to you and you're not trying to carefully scoot behind someones chair. (I believe there are two levels to the roof top -didn't make it upstairs?) They had plenty of seating, lawn bowling (must take off your shoes to play), and a large projection screen where they show movies in the summer time. I definitely need to make another trip back there soon to try some food and good beer. But really...what Minnesotan doesn't appreciate a perfectly manicured lawn of green grass, a perfect MN summer night, beer, and good company?? **Side note: I wasn't able to attend but I heard that NYE 2012 they had free live music, Beatles tribute band, which I am sure was great.**

Lawn bowling is way more fun than regular bowling. Add a beer and some mushy peas and fish and chips. Get's pretty hopping on the roof during weekend nights in the summer, but good times!

This is one of my soon to be famous bathroom reviews. I've been here for private events and lunch and late night. Regardless of all other aspects I am beyond upset at the bathroom detail! 1st ave had better bathrooms. - they were out of toilet tissue, stuff was all over the floor and the hostess couldn't find the key to get more tissues. Paper towels were gone and was a mess. Britt's you pour a good drink but keep a bad bad bathroom.

The FOOD: The do have all the European / International soccer games and cute boys with English accents, but their food is mediocre. Way too overpriced for what you get and they often screw up your order. Every time I say "No Cheese" cheese magically appears on my plate. The SERVICE:Service is good. IF there is a table, they will seat you right away. The PATRONS: Please note that most of the tables near you will occupied by the underworked and overpaid Target corporate workers. Also, it is a good place to people watch, all the girls trying to score a husband, almost reminds of a frat party. The PERKS: Nicollet Patio, Lawn Bowling, nice Decor. Good place for people watching and games. Not so good for filling your tummy with yummy.

I have been going to Brit's Pub since I was an undergrad at South Dakota State. (My buddies and I used to make occasional trips to their extensive patio/lawn area to watch the World Cup soccer matches while drinking endless pints of Guinness.) The Pub has an extensive list of beer to wet your pallet and a large menu for appetizers/entrees. However, their food is not their number one draw... The food is far from terrible but also far from exceptional. (I typically go with the calamari so I am guaranteed not to be disappointed.) The draw to Brit's is their inviting atmosphere indoors and the "fun in the sun" mentality that is offered on their expansive rooftop. The rooftop offers great views, a "bowling green", and a big screen for viewing speciality sporting events. A true "must" to experience if in the area.

I always enjoy a good visit to Brit's, and I've made several over the years, since first being of age to drink (and thinking everybody there was so old). No matter the time of year, you can find a lively crowd, good pub food, pleasant conversation, and friendly Brits on hand to make you feel welcome. And, in the winter, I always, always try to make at least one visit so that I can sit in front of their fireplace. It's WONDERFUL. And, in the summer, I always try to make a visit, so I can sit outdoors either on their roof deck (with lawn bowling - or is it snooker?) or in their sidewalk seating, and watch Nicollet Mall-ers stroll on by. Try the Stilton burger or the shepherd's pie (the lamb is amazing) - and if you're wanting to throw any kind of diet out the window, just have the Scotch eggs - they're delightful. My most recent visit was a bit of a letdown, as our server was overwhelmed and showing it. Friendliness went out the window, and perfunctory was the name of the game. When I didn't order a second drink he was visibly disappointed. Geez, buddy, it's gonna be OK.

For the past 3 years i've always wanted to try this place, however each time i was in minneapolis, my party always dragged me away saying, "the line's too long" or "eh, it's only a pub" or "it's too late, lets go sleep" Well, no more. Last sept i was finally able to try it out and i really enjoyed it. We went there for a late late night meal on saturday and i had a great time. We got there around 1030pm and it was pretty bustling. We ordered whole bunch of pub stuff - burgers, fish &chips, bangers and hashers etc. Food was pretty good. The service was pretty slow. But overall it had a nice cozy warm hustle bustle atmosphere which i really enjoyed. Can't wait to go again this semptember!

I've been here many times, but have avoided reviewing it because there are already so many reviews of this place, but I'm bored, so here goes: When my crew is deciding on where to head out for the night, Brit's comes up fairly regularly and I am usually hesitant, but agree to go from time to time. I never want to go because it is always packed on a weekend night, but I always have a decent time once I'm here. Last week I was going to meet up some friends for one drink because I had to get up at 5 a.m. for a flight the next morning. I was intending on leaving by 9 p.m., but ended up staying until after 1 a.m. Who needs sleep when you are having fun, I guess. Brit's has an awesome outdoor patio with great views of Downtown. They play movies on the rooftop once a week during the Summer. They also have a good selection of tap beers. A bit of advice, they are all about $6, so don't get a Miller Lite or Budweiser. Enjoy a Boddington's, Strongbow, Harp, or Guinness. They have shuffleboard on the second floor lounge and lawn bowling on the rooftop during the Summer. You get a Downtown after work crowd here. It is a little preppy, but a better crowd than the Warehouse district or the W/7/Chambers douche bag "bigshots". I got the food here once, many years ago, and didn't think it was all that great. I haven't had anything to eat here since. But its much more of a bar than a restaurant.

This is a fantastically fun place. You wouldn't think a restaurant that boasts traditional English fare would be much to scream about, unless you're a fan of mushy peas, but Brit's does food very well. The Scottish Eggs are fantastic, for one thing. I could wolf them down but for their richness. Nowhere else does malt vinegar on thick-cut fries (or "chips," I suppose) taste as good as they do here. And when the weather's nice, sit on the roof for some lawn bowling! Seriously, the green roof at Brit's is the toast of certain ecologically minded watchdog groups, held up as an example of the good life. As for the people who come here... eh. Brit's is in downtown so it's surrounded by corporate office, which themselves are staffed by young MBA holders with more money than they know what to do with, yet not two manners to rub together. So you get a boisterous and obnoxious crowd, and sometimes the roar in this place is truly deafening, but the outdoor seating helps to mitigate that. Also, they have a phenomenal beer selection... and it's on tap. It must be experienced to be believed.

Awesome place. Lots to drink and eat and the size of the place allows you to have your choice of scenery; british pub, restaurant, patio or sidewalk cafe. The scotch eggs are awesome and watching or playing lawn bowling on the roof is one of my favourite things to do in Minneapolis.

I love British pubs. We used to have one in town and I absolutely loved it. I love the food, the beers, and the loud atmosphere. The atmosphere at Brit's was great, fire places going, foosball table, shuffle board table....it was really great. We had a buffet dinner served upstairs and they had a couple of servers helping and clearing plates and a bartender that was fast and efficient. My only complaint is with the food. Their buffet was gross and cold. They served chicken sandwiches, ribs, corn on the cob, grilled veggies, salads and chips. The ribs were cold and the sauce on them was disgusting...I guess I am just partial to my man's awesome bbq- but these were just inedible. I didn't think to try the chicken-and I wasn't going to get up for seconds. I am just glad I loaded up on the grilled veggies and salad otherwise I would have been super hungry.

  • Eric M.

The food is pretty meh, it's super loud, there isn't anything special about this place. It's a bar. You go there to drink and meet friends, but I can think of a dozen places I'd probably prefer to meet up over Brits.

If you've ever been to a real English pub (e.g. not a touristy pub that you went to during a weekend in London, but a REAL pub in England where locals go) don't go to Brit's Pub expecting anything close to what you remember; it will just be really depressing and make you want to hop on the next plane to London. That being said, I can't blame these guys for not being authentic (though part of me thinks that if you're just gonna half ass it, what's the point of trying at all?). If they went the authentic route, they probably wouldn't get any Americans to come because they'd all complain about how the beer is flat and isn't ice cold. I asked the waitress for some brown sauce and she had no clue what I was talking about! Then I realized I had to ask her for "HP sauce"... then she understood what I was asking for. The fish and chips were okay. Mushy peas were not mushy enough (at least not like the peas in England). The best thing about the place is that they sell British candy and chocolates that they import from the UK. I don't know how much they cost but if I lived in Minneapolis, I would stop by every once in a while to pick up a Cadbury's Double Decker, even if it cost me $4.

This place is exactly what I look for in a fine, post-work drinking establishment. I guess it is more common around here, but CHEERS for the Strongbow on tap. My favorite cider.. $6 a pint (non happy hour) works for me. Good crowd, heard several variations of UK accent, which I appreciate being in what is clearly designed to be a mock british pub.. ya know, with the Queen over the fireplace and all.. I was here for a quiz night, would recommend going, it was a great mix of people drinking. Didn't eat anything myself but nearly shanked someone for a scotch egg... look absolutely freakin delicious. Lawn bowling sounds sa-weeeeet though, looking forward to that in the summer

The missus and I had a concert to go to at Orchestra Hall and we wanted to find some place close to eat and at only a block away literally across the street, Brit's Pub certainly filled that bill. Now it was quite busy inside, but we managed to get seated right away - which was a plus. Unfortunately since it was really busy, service was extremely slow. I felt sorry for the wait staff since they were running around all over and people kept coming in. Yet they definitely were enthusiastic enough to keep things lively and jovial. If we weren't in a rush and the wanted to just sit around shooting the breeze, this would be a solid option. But we were on a limited time schedule so hanging out wasn't in the cards. We did order a couple apps; the scotch eggs and a side of chips to whet our appetites till the main courses came. The chips were basic fries, not soggy, have a crisp to em and okay enough. The Scotch eggs were fantastic though. A hardboiled egg, wrapped round with sausage, then deep-fried, it was something worth coming here for. It's a shame we couldn't say the same about the Shepard's Pie and the Pot Roast. The pot roast was tender and aplenty, but both were mild in flavor. The Shepard's Pie was a better choice between the two, but the ratio between the meat and potatoes was 1:2 and at the end, got sick of eating it. In hindsight, I think we should have stuck with their staple fish and chips instead!

During a 4-day stay, we ate here twice. A more palatable option than the hotel restaurant, it had a well-intended menu and pints(quality not quantity). We ordered the Fish & Chips and then went on a pie-kick with the Shepherd's Pie, Steak & Ale Pie & Chicken Pot Pie. Delicious comfort food. We were with a large group of about 20, and the service was solid. The Food Runners were capable and willing to help out with anything we needed -- which was a pleasant surprise at a pub eatery. Plus, the outdoor seating was cozy & lawn bowling was a nice diversion.

I stopped into Brit's twice on my visit to Minneapolis. Once I had an annoyance experience and once a great experience. The first visit was for the monthly trivia game and drinks. Unfortunately our server disappeared for 1.5 hours during trivia. For a moment I thought they stopped serving during the game, but I saw other servers around. When she finally reappeared I ordered a Jameson and was brought an Irish whiskey that was either watered down Jameson or not Jameson. At least they split the checks without asking. Trivia was awesome, a fast paced 6 round game with very enthusiastic participants. I'd say it's a don't miss. My second visit was reluctant, but my feet were tired and I was craving the Indian dish my companion had the evening before. What I didn't know is that there are two different kitchens and two different menus. The front patio and interior seating have a larger menu while the rooftop patio has a condensed menu. I opted for the mango chicken salad instead of the curry, and was pleasantly surprised. I was treated to tons of fresh fruit and we were served *very* quickly. Overall I'd say the rooftop patio and the happy hour specials are worth giving the place a try.

Whenever I came into town with my London friends they'd come here on Saturday mornings to watch "football" (soccer) games and get "sozzled". The rest of our group would join us at a more normal hour (read: lunchtime) and play table shuffleboard. Once we got kicked out at 3PM because the actual Brits were so tanked. That was a feat... Other than that, lawn bowling is always a good time with a huge group, but usually a huge group of drinkers just deteriorates into drinking - depends on whether you want to waste the money or not. Their food is okay (typical bar fare)...from what I can remember of it. I guess bottom line is, if you judge an Asian restaurant by how many Asians are actually eating in there, and you judge a British pub by how many Brits are actually drinking in there...this is a pretty great find. And it's actually owned by a Brit. How's that for authenticity?

I love the outdoor roof space! This is one of my favorite bars on Nicollet Avenue. They have a good beer selection and great atmosphere. It's the best place to go in the summertime. I haven't tried lawn bowling yet but it looks like fun.

Over my many visits to Minneapolis I usually make sure to stop by Brits for a quick beer or to watch a game. Wonderful feel with a strong beer selection and pretty decent pub food. I look forward to my next trip in good weather to take advantage of the outdoor seating or the lawn on the roof. Update: After my most recent visit I had to give Brit's another star. It's just a great place to grab a beer.

Brits is an A-OK place. I've been there for drinks many times, and never had a bad experience. Their outdoor patio with lawn bowling, and tons of seating is great on a summer day, probably one of the best spots downtown. Their food is, well, British food, it will fill you up, but you won't be hankering for more. I'd much rather meet friends here for drinks, rather than go for dinner.

I came here for lunch and because it was busy with fellow convention attendees, I gladly took my seat at the bar. As one of Anton G.'s corporate drones (call me 6 of 9), I also came in to adjust my Borg implants Brit's has a good selection of British beers and "pub grub", but I opted for the Summit Pale Ale (which is really good) and the Burger American (ditto). The guy at the bar was friendly and very attentive service wise. I would come back, but I'd like to be outside next time.

Love this place! What a gem. The vibe is one of a kind - at least in Minneapolis. It feels like a true old fashioned British pub. Great beers, British Food, and atmoshphere. Great for a drink with friends, to watch a game, or just eat. The atmosphere is 100% what makes this a 5 (while the food and service are more 4/5).

Brits is especially great when it's nice out -- I love the outdoor seating on Nicollet Mall and the upstairs deck next to the lawn bowling area. I watched a bunch of World Cup games there (not the USA ones or the finals -- it was WAY too crowded for those) and it was nice to be able to sit at the tables or on the lawn to watch. My favorite meal at Brits is, by far, the Tandoori Chicken Wrap. The chicken is a bit spicy (not really spicy, just enough to be considered Tandooriesque) and the accompanying yogurt sauce is awesome. I love to dip my fries in the sauce. The Stilton burger is pretty good too. The reason I give Brits three stars is because of the happy hour. The drink and appetizer specials are a little lame and the service is spotty. You can definitely get better service and deals at other bars downtown, but I don't think others can compete w/ the ambiance.

Do you know what's consistently and reliably in nearly every British pub throughout the United Kingdom for the non beer-ale-lager-hard liquor-drinkers? Woodpecker Cider. Do you know what's no longer served at this imitation British pub so otherwise beloved here in Minneapolis? Woodpecker Cider. Although their Cock-A-Leekie soup is out of this world delicious, I say Brit's is now for the birds.

Went here with 3 others for a mid-day drink on a Sunday. We were able to find seating on the rooftop patio in the back immediately. Got the $5 Bloody Mary (Sunday happy hour special), which was served with a pickle, olive and celery. Pretty decent drink. Also got some BRIT's Kings Wings with the traditional Buffalo sauce. It was quite good, but in retrospect should've tried their special Guinness Hoisin bbq sauce. Will definitely go back when I'm back in that city

While in Minneapolis for a volleyball tournament, Brits Pub was recommended to me by a coach from Pittsburgh, and what a great recommendation that was! Brits Pub is a great place for lunch, dinner, or just drinks. The size of the place is deceiving from the outside but the place is huge! There is outdoor seating which is great for people watching on Nicollet Ave, seating inside the traditional British pub, and tons of seating upstairs on the outdoor patio. They also offer lawn bowling on the patio...fun! The menu has a lot of traditional British/Irish items - Shepard's Pie, Scottish Eggs, etc, - but we decided on salmon salads for lunch which were very generous in size, and delicious! Service was very friendly and quick. The decor is warm and rich with a lot of dark wood. Upstairs on the patio is a great place to be on a warm summer night!Lots of people from all over having a good time drinking, talking, and playing lawn bowling. A must visit place while in the area!!

I am a fan. Good local beer, cheap happy hour price. Only had drinks here, but i really enjoyed the atmosphere and staff.

I was hesistant to try Britt's Pub but my god lord, what a shocking experience. This pub was extremely cool. It is as authentic as possible when you are speaking of an actual english pub. From the wooden stools all the way to the chocolate candy bars from England! [ are you kidding me? ] Service was excellent considering it was a Friday night. I waited maybe 20 minutes for my table. I decided to try the chicken pot pie and man ... I have to tell ya ... this is one of the best tasting things I have ever had in my life. I like chicken pot pie, but I have never tasted something like this. I am fantasizing about it as we speak. Chunks of chicken, potato and vegetable, with a delicious crust and melted cheese on top. Absolutely fucking incredible. I had the salad which was fresh with delicious homemade ranch dressing. What an unbelievable experience. Food is also priced extremely well.

A cute, cheesy faux British pub with a fun atmosphere and OTT decor. I loved the flags of Commonwealth nations and Crown dependencies hanging from the ceiling. They have a wide selection of British beers on tap and pull a pretty good pint. Try the fish and chips if you're hungry.

GREAT place to hang out. love the atmosphere and even though it wasn't open yet, they have lawn bowling on the rooftop (I was told it opens Memorial Day). Great selection of beers on tap. NOT recommended for its food. Server had highly recommended Indian dishes: tandoori chicken wrap (my coworker said it was just ok). Chicken masala pasty was a letdown (I didn't expect much for a British restaurant in the middle of the US). Another coworker had the chicken tikka masala and barely touched it. If I were to rate this place on food alone, it would be 2stars.

It would be so nice to like Brit's. Easy, you know? It's always close and always boring enough not to offend the delicate, Minnesota palates of those invited to the office happy hour. However, $5.95 for six samosas (read: perogies) is hardly a deal, and our waiter had to be talked into giving us the drink specials that were listed on the menu. Lamesauce. Yeah, the patio is nice. But you have to stab an old lady in the mommy box to get a place to park your bum out there. And the hostesses all try a little too hard to convince you they're British. You don't sound like the dudes on Top Gear, pumpkin. Give up.

It's definitely filled with transient business people, but given its propinquity to the convention center, it's not surprising. The food isn't memorable, but definitely decent. I left satisfied. Wait wait, I remember the fries being pretty good. I also ordered a beer and they carded me! This isn't meant to be complimentary, but just because I'm with other Asian girls that happen to look young (we were also with dudes), but we were wearing suits on a Saturday afternoon! Okay fine. Maybe we did look like a high school speech and debate team, but the waitress didn't card the guy who ordered the beer...

I love this place! If you like blue cheese you need to get the Stilton Burger. Stilton is the name of the cheese that comes on the burger, if you've never had it, its closes relative is blue cheese. You definitely need to drowned your fries in the malt vinegar and salt just like the ol' Brits. The Beefeater was great, but expensive. The down side, the horseradish (sauce) wasn't hot, and it took awhile for them to "find" the raw horseradish, I assume since its Minnesota the real horseradish doesn't see the light of day very often. We were let down by the beefeater not because it failed us, but no one can beat Mavericks roast beef, and this was no exception. To top it all off I washed it all down with a pint of Newcastle. Great time, I would have liked to play pool... I don't even know how to go about if its even okay to play..?

GREAT Irish bar located close to the Hyatt....EXCEPTIONAL Food and Service....and I just sat at the bar. Arrived around 12:30 pm cranky and hungry. Bartender was friendly and made a GREAT recommendation on a cold and rainy day, the grilled cheese and tomato soup (it has a different "English" name)......it was PERFECT. Sandwich was toasted, had excellent cheese, and was not soggy at all, soup was a real small cup of perfect/creamy tomato soup. Fast, efficient, GREAT. Need to have a few beers there tonight....... PS. I LOVE the name of the joint! 1 Arnold Palmer 2.48 1 Sir Winston 8.95 Total - $12.66

Ack, the humanity! My experiences at Brit's have all been colored by the crowd. The beer selection is great - happy hour is a good deal for sure - the roof patio is charming if over-the-top. The bowling lawn provides a freshness to the view and solid entertainment in people-watching. But the crowd. It's full of Team Target, the ex-Greeks, whatever we might call college-education people who have joined corporate America within the past 5 years and are obnoxious as all get out. Let's get this straight though - individuals belonging to this group are perfectly pleasant - it's as a group that they make sharing {bar} space difficult. Too loud, too much preening, too much boorishness - I think it's an emergent property - sort of like consciousness - none of the people themselves would produce this alone, but all put together a frat-ish air emerges. Makes Brit's hard to stomach (though the food is okay). Great place to watch soccer though. Then the crowd is rowdy and fun.

There are many reasons to go to Brit's and it does fit the bill for a variety of purposes. You go for: - the ample rooftop seating - because you've never sat by or played on a rooftop bocce green - whatever football/soccer match is on, you'll find it here with a serious crowd (and a few wannabees, granted). - Tetley's on tap and some other less common options - the party rooms which can accommodate a large group, and multiple bars make it easy to drop by a big event without committing to a group table or waiting for one server - convenient downtown happy hour meeting spot that no one will get lost trying to find - beautiful spot to be on a summer night or post Twins game You do not go here for the food (if you do, you will likely be disappointed, even in the staples). You (hopefully) do not go for the crowd. Yes, there are plenty of obnoxious types here and the place is entirely too Targetized - but you accept these things because you probably came for any other reason but these and you just want to have a good time with your group! If you have never been here before, I would definitely recommend going to check out everything they have to offer. You'll likely find more reasons to enjoy the place than you would have things to gripe about. I've brought friends and co-workers from out of town because it is a unique option and worth dropping in for a pint. Cheers!

Perfect place to grab a beer on a warm summer night. Tons of outdoor seating out front and a huge patio in the back. Fully equipped with lawn bowling!!!! Great outdoor fun in the city. Would definitely go back for drinks on a nice night.

When I go to downtown, I go to Brits. They have decent beer selection and any place that has Fullers ESB on tap is A ok. Their Patio is a lot of fun and I like their food. When I first started going I always got the Stilton Burger, than I started to get fish and chips. Both are good. Now, I always get the beefeater with Stilton. Beefeater is a pot roast sandwich and put some stilton on top and you have a master piece. It's techinically a sandwich, but the bun just melts and you have to eat it with a fork. It is delicious For those of you who are wondering what Stilton is, it's a very pugent bleu cheese made in Stilton England. I've heard people say it smells like old mens feet, but I dont go around smelling the elderly's feet. I believe David Kahn said it best, it's like manna from heaven (Granted he was talking about Darko, not cheese)

A big giant bar of two stories that opens out to a rooftop with grass (and lawn-bowling)?!? Sweet. A great outdoor patio to enjoy some sun and drinks with friends downtown. I've been here many many times and it doesn't get old (especially in the warm months). One of my favorite bar/outside spots in Minneapolis.

I fly into Minneapolis several times a year to work with Target and usually stay at the Double Tree on the same block as Brit's. Overall I enjoy going to Brit's as the atmosphere is great and the first few times I was there the food was very good. This review however, is for the last visit. Maybe it's my imagination but it feels like the quality dropped off a bit. This is something I don't feel is imagined and is noticable at many establishments around the world since the recession hit. I ordered Shepards Pie and found the lamb to be a bit tough and it seem heavy on the mashed potatoes to where they felt like the dominated the dish. I will give them another shot as I did enjoy the Pot Roast last year.

Rolling into town for a convention, I needed food that was near my hotel (the Hyatt Regency), so I wandered out, whipped out Yelp on my iPhone and it led me to Brit's. Now sadly I did not get the British welcome I hoped for (a gaptoothed woman calling me "gov'nuh" or an eva green lookalike telling me she was looking at my "perfectly formed arse"). But the lunch fare was quite satisfying. I had the pot roast sandwich, which broke apart softly and came with french fries. The horseradish sauce that accompanied the sandwich was sadly weak, but no matter. I just poured more on. The service was fine - the first girl didn't seem like she cared too much but the dude who delivered my sandwich was way nicer. I also came back here for drinks after one night of the event and we had beers and fries. Cheap drinks made my night. I commented to one of my friends that all the women there seemed to be tall white women with blonde hair, to which he responded, "That's cause they're all Nordic." I have never agreed with a comment so quickly. HAHA. If you're in town and staying downtown, stop by Brit's for decent food and good drinks.

The first time I went to Brit's, I was absolutely smitten. It was freezing outside, quiet inside and we snagged the couch right next to the fire place. It seems like each time I go, I like it a little less, but that's usually because I'm going too late and it is cranked up a couple notches on the douche scale. For the food: The Shepherd's Pie was meh, but the Scotch Eggs and Cod Pieces (tee-hee) are delish. The bread pudding is awesome, even if it's not authentic. It's the fish and bread pudding that keep me coming back. I wish they had some better beers, but it's really just England's fault and not theirs for not really having anything with a good amount of hops in it. Basically, every bar in Minnesota should serve Surly. The service is normally fantastic unless you seat yourself - then there is no telling when you will see a waiter. The bussers are almost too-efficient and the wait staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is usually a little too frat-housey for my tastes, but if you manage to go during the day when it is still low-key the charm really shines through. All in all, I still love the place, but it loses a star for the clientele.

A nice place to sit outside and have a pint or watch a football match, if that's what you're looking for. The place is huge, so finding a seat shouldn't be a problem. Our service was fine. The food was only ok. The chicken leckie soup was pretty nondescript. My wife's burger and chips were unremarkable as well. The London broil sandwich I had was actually pretty flavorful. They have a nice beer selection as well. All in all a good place to go if you're looking for a place to have a drink or some pub fare. Not destination dining by any means.

Seriously poor service. Some friends and I sat out on the green roof-deck on a Saturday afternoon for some bloody marys. But after about 20 minutes our waitress showed up and said, she'd be right back. Being a generally lazy group of guys we waited for another 10 minutes until our surly waitress came back and studied our ID before quizzing us all, on our birthdays zip codes etc. I normally don't take offense to this, but my balding 28 year old friend did. After another 10 minutes or so, our drinks arrived, and there was just more surliness, as she asked another friend if he could hand a coke across the table, but the unusual way of saying "You have an arm don't you?" I almost felt like I was at Dick's last resort. Well at any rate the bloody mary was just OK, and my sandwich was dripping with grease. I suppose I will have try it again, it was a great atmosphere on the rooftop, not so much since it has gotten cold I bet but I suppose if I had a lovely waitress, it might have been a different experience.

At first I complained about coming here because I typically hate pubs in general. However, I am so glad the rest of my team dragged me here! The service is great, the food is yummy, and the place is cleaner than most pubs :) Another co-worker and I both got the mango chicken salad with mango mint vinaigrette and other co-workers got the chicken tikka masala and penne pasta. The salad was AMAZING. It had sliced mango, pineapple, strawberries, glazed almonds and mixed greens (and chicken, but I opt-ed out of getting chicken). My co-worker mentioned that it was "very fresh tasting" and that is the best word I can use to describe it too. It's almost as if I made my own salad at home and cut up my own fruit to put in it - I love it! The mango slices were so sweet and the pineapple and strawberries were perfect as well. I tried my other co-worker's chicken tikka masala and it was typical, but I felt that not enough naan was given. For dessert we had everything except for the ice cream. Our favorite hands down was the bread pudding! Another thing to note is that I accidentally spilled curry sauce on my cardigan while passing an appetizer to my co-worker and the wait staff came quickly with napkins and then our waiter offered to clean off the curry sauce with club soda. He took it back and someone actually cleaned off the sauce from my sweater with club soda and water! What amazing service! Unfortunately curry sauce sticks to your clothing for life so I wasn't able to get it all out in the end, but I appreciate the effort and geniune kindess. I know most places who would just give you napkins and point you towards the bathroom. I was surprised with the great service we received here. I also hear they have lawn bowling which sounds like fun. :) They also make a great Pimms cup according to my coworker.

This place is nice! Recently, I was here on business and stayed right down the street from this place. You could tell the majority of the patrons worked for Target Headquarters across the street. It must have been their "Cheap Chic" that gave it away. Not deterred by all the Targetites frequenting this place, my Colleague and I settled at a table on the roof. This was a large area that included an Outside Bar and Lawn Bowling with an active league. On other nights, they have Movie Nights outside. I wasn't too hungry but had their Chicken Leek Soup which hit the spot. There Drinks and Service were on par as well! If you are in the area and you want a nice BrewPub, check the Brit out.

I can't comment on the food, but the atmosphere is definitely reminiscent of a British pub and the beer selection is phenomenal - including Strongbow Cider on tap. However, service was a bit lacking, which is why I have to give it only 3 stars.

I was in Minneapolis for a week for business...by myself. Good thing I love to enjoy a pint or two and chat up with the locals to keep myself entertained. I discovered Brit's Pub after meandering down the street from my hotel when suddenly, I see brightly colored flags and the biggest outdoor patio I had ever seen on the second floor of a random building. As I stared up at the patrons enjoying their beer, wine and cocktails in the warm summer evening I knew I had found a little piece of home right here in Minneapolis. It was a little difficult to figure out which entrance I should head into as there is a restaurant right next door and like I mentioned, I only had eyes for the patio. After successfully entering the pub and giving the bar area a glance over, I headed straight upstairs toward the sunlight. I was not disappointed as I laid eyes on one of the coolest sights I had ever seen. The lawn bowling set up was fantastic. I don't know anything about lawn bowling, but after seeing a bunch of dude's in rugby gear, pounding Guinness like it's going out of style, I was ready to sign up and form my own team in two seconds flat. The bar outside reminded me a little of a concession stand at a sporting event which was fine by me as then I didn't have to flag down a waiter or waitress to serve me my drink. With beer in hand I realized the only disappointing thing about my adventure so far was that the patio was so crowded. I didn't think I would find a place to sit, relax and take in the sights. Luckily, I ran into a group of guys who were nice enough to offer me a place on their bench so that I didn't have to stand around looking like a tool. I people watched and drank Guinness for two hours. The weather was amazing and the people were extremely nice. I couldn't help but wonder if everyone was so happy because it wasn't 2 degrees and snowing out, but at the end of the day I didn't care. I must admit, by the time I wandered back down the stairs to order some food for dinner, I was a little hammered. I saddled up to the indoor bar and met a nice local lady who offered me her quail egg fried things five times ignoring the fact that I didn't really want to eat food out of a stranger's hand. Nevertheless, I ordered the fried chicken wrap and quite honestly, I couldn't have asked for more after drinking some beers and knowing in advance I was going to eat bar food. All in all, Brit's Pub is an amazing experience, especially if you are visiting from out of town. Don't go there for the food, go there to hang out and have a drink or two for happy hour. Each time I think of that week I spent in Minneapolis, Brit's Pub is the second brightest spot of the week, right after the night spent at the Local, but that is another story.

You don't go to Brit's for their fries and curry (although they're ok). You don't even go to Brit's for their bangers and mash, or even their selection of British food stuffs up front (HP sauce and a variety of Cadbury chocolates). You go to Brit's because of their fabulous atmosphere. 2 levels (elevator for wheelchair-users can be found just on the other side of the bar through the glass door), and one of the best rooftop patios in town (amidst the skyscrapers), replete with a lush lawn (for boccee ball) and outdoor movies during the summer. And if it's nice out? Show up early if you want a chance to snag a table up top.

Brit's is a fun place that I've been to many times. It's definitely more fun in the summer when the rooftop patio is open and lawn bowling games are in progress. Downstairs just feels like any bar in town and upstairs looks like any generic restaurant. The service is never great but never bad. The bathrooms are decent but get surprisingly crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. The people watching is fabulous as Brit's is right on Nicollet Mall across from Orchestra Hall. Brit's has consistently good food at a decent price. The Cod Pieces are always crisp and light and never greasy. Cornish pasty, steak & ale pie, shepherd's pie and Guinness pot roast are meaty and hearty and the portions are sensible. They're all tasty, but are also all quite similar. Aubergine tart is a good vegetarian option, but on occasion the vegetables have been undercooked. The pastry on the tart, the cornish pasty and the steak & ale pie is always properly flaky, though. I am not a big fan of Indian food, and so may not be the best judge, but the Jewel in the Crown (chicken breast in masala curry with rice and mango chutney) is wonderfully sweet and spicy. The desserts here are nothing fancy, but quite good. I order the bread pudding every time I come in and it's always soft and custardy with plenty of creme anglaise. The burnt creme is a little on the small side but well done. Brit's is fun and draws a slightly older business/professional crowd (as opposed to the college bars). Perhaps the vibe can best be summed up by the fact that one of the more prominent pieces of art upstairs features Mick Jagger - when he was young!

I was in town for a convention and ate here a couple of times. The food was good, the service was excellent and the decor was what one would expect from a British Pub in Minneapolis. I had the BLT, which was very good. The Beefeater was also a substantial sandwich. I ordered a side salad, it was huge and fresh. Great outdoor seating. One commenter called this a dive bar, clearly this person has never been to a real dive bar.

Have your summer company party here if you can! We rented out the upstairs area and the lawn bowling court for half a day. I discovered my love for lawn bowling here since it was my first time trying it. The rooftop area is spacious and has nice views in the summertime; the atmosphere is fun! Their bootleg/mint julip drinks are most excellent. The food is good too. Fish and chips anyone?

Everything here is ok. The best thing about the place is the atmosphere. It is a great place to grab a drink after work. The food is decent. You don't want to be in a hurry. The service tends to be a little slow but friendly. The Scotch eggs are amazing but how can you mess up a scotch egg?

This British style pub is fantastic! There is a great atmosphere and plenty of tables, which is a bit rare in downtown Minneapolis. They have many world beers on tap. Brit's earns 5 stars from me because they have my favorite beer, Carlsberg, on tap.

I loved this place! I went here with a large group the other night and we sat on the patio. Considering that we had such a big group (20 ish) that kept coming in and out, I thought that the service was pretty good. We weren't able to lawn bowl because it was closed, unfortunately, but we did get the pleasure of a streaker across the lawn! Bonus? Not really. I had the turkey burger and it was awesome! I'm a bit of a picky turkey burger patron but I thought this was good. OMG, the french fries were amazing. I had to stop myself from devouring the whole massive serving that they give you. THEY WERE DELISH. I thought that drinks were a bit pricey but food was average, so I guess it works out if you're going there for a couple of drinks and dinner. I loved sitting outside, I don't know that I'd love the inside as much, though I'll definitely go back for the turkey burger :). Oh and p.s. The bathrooms seemed just fine to me.

I met up with P and a friend after my rehearsal at Orchestra Hall. I was really surprised that the place wasn't busier. We were on the roof top and had a great table. Service was meh. Nothing spectacular and a little stand offish (yes you may be a pretty boy but we are paying). The food was ok. Not something I would go out of my way for. We had an order of calamari. Some of it was fine but the majority was over cooked and rubbery. Again it is an ok place.

Good British food? Well.....sort of. Try a Scottish Egg, for sure. Yum. Good beer and drinks? YES! Moderately priced, but the view is worth it. Watching people lawn-bowl is pretty great, too. This is a great place to go in the summer. Winter? Probably not gonna hang on the patio, but I went there for New Years Eve and, although it was packed to the hilt, the service was still great and as fast as you can expect. The band was really really good. The owner was present and all over the place helping out. The place is big, so you can hang out with the crowd and party, or go get romantic in the corner. Overall, A-Ok.

I don't know why you wouldn't love Brit's. 1. They have a Nicollet-level patio and a rooftop patio as well (both of which are nice). 2. Lawn bowling. 3. International Soccer Game broadcasts. 4. Fabulous dark-wood paneling. 5. An actual "Pub" feel inside. 6. The food is delicious. I know this is like the vaguest possible thing you could say about a place, but when you go, it just feels "right."

The best place to watch soccer in Minneapolis. As a soccer fan, I really respect the establishments that support soccer here in the States, and Brit's fully embraces it. Whether you want to watch an EPL game at 6am while drinking Bloody Mary's or to watch a World Cup final (which I did yesterday) Brit's is the place to go. Food was pretty good. I saw numerous folks getting the Fish & Chips (no surprise there), but I went with the Club Sandwich because I myself had a soccer game later in the day. It was quite large, but the smoked turkey used in the sandwich was delish. The five stars, however, goes to our service. I am HUGE on customer service, and our waitress was phenomenal!!! We were upstairs in the clubhouse for the Women's World Cup final, and it was packed, probably near 120 people. There were only two waitresses, and I guess my only complaint is that they could have had two more waitresses to help out, but ours was really on top of things. Considering how fast-paced the environment was, the amount of orders she was taking, and the pressure she was under, she really kept her cool and politeness throughout the afternoon. That speaks a lot to her character, and deservedly got a nice tip. Well done Brit's, you will see me at the start of the EPL season in August. Go Manchester United!!!

3.5 stars Happy Hour: Great spot for HH, but get there early. Actual deals aren't amazing, since it's a hot spot in downtown. Recommendations: Chicken Pot Pie, Awesome Fries, Spinach Dip & Steak with Field Greens Salad Plus: Rooftop seating, decent food, lawn bowling

Went here twice on a recent trip back home. I had the Sheperd's Pie for dinner and the Fish n Chips lunch special the next time. Both were very tasty. They have a good UK beer selection (as you would expect). I have no complaints. :)

What do you do when it is 94 degrees outside and no clouds in the sky? If you were to ask me, I would say sit inside in air conditioning in my boxers, but ask my co workers and they would say sit outside on a patio for happy hour. After some convincing I reluctantly agreed to side with my coworkers and decided to meet them here. When we got here it was still empty because the wave of Target folks had yet to wash upon it. We headed to the roof deck to immediately be greeted by blinding sun and intense heat. I started to rethink my decision, but I noticed that the one side of the patio was completely in shade from the hotel next door. We take a seat in the shaded area and I am quickly relieved that it is slightly cooler. No longer fearing sweating through my clothes I could sit back and enjoy all that Brits has to offer. Not bad prices for a happy hour. I managed to get a few drinks in at the reduced price, well five, but I was worried about dehydration in the heat. I also ordered the chicken fingers app and was impressed. They were pretty much all chicken and very little breading, just the way I like them. Service was fair, could have been better, but it started to get full towards the end of HH. Like others have mentioned go here for some great people watching. I will certainly be back, but next time it will be a little cooler outside.

I love this place, simply for the food, drinks (mostly the beer), and being able to sit outside on Nicollet Ave during the summer evenings. There really is something about this place that always makes me come back here every time I'm downtown in the summertime. The sidewalk patio is always busy, but doable, and the people you encounter here are always a trip! Watch out though, on the weekends, this place is packed, aim to get here around 8:00 on the weeknights ... after happy hour... before late night. its the best time, plus the sun is starting to set, and the people get antsy!

Good lunch, had the cricket club sandwich, no complaints. Atmosphere was somewhat authentic, enjoyed the British music wall art as well as the " lawn bowling" option. Would be curious to experience the night scene here. Still, nothing that really stood apart from other satisfying restaurants, 3/5.

only here a couple times, but brit's is a great time. above average food (salads & sandwiches), very strong drinks (did ask for doubles, but they were way more), and fun atmosphere. many seating areas, outside main bar, side bar, & upstairs. excellent services and enough HDTVs to catch the game. the main door goes directly into the main bar/eating area that has plenty of high tables and a bar along the SE side. pass that bar into the side bar/pub or head upstairs to what is one of the coolest rooftop bar, tons of seating areas and lawn bowling.

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars for Brit's...Went here last night after the St Patrick's Day parade, and understandably we waited a while to sit down. Luckily we grabbed drinks while we waited; these were fine, no deal though. Once we finally sat down we split the Sticky Wings- MMM. Sticky indeed, you'll be licking your fingers like an uncivilised rat while eating these. My chicken pot pie was pretty good, but I'm not sure about the cheddar sauce on top. Overall, there was decent service for it being a mob scene, and the atmosphere was great. I wish the bathrooms were cleaner, but maybe that's asking too much on a designated drunken holiday. I will have to come back for lawn bowling once it warms up!

Have been to Brits several times. Always get the cheese toastie and tomato soup. Its good comfort food and a great warm atmosphere during the winter. A co-worker gives the fish and chips great marks. Worth a trip in for some beer and comfort classics.

Hmmmm - The food's OK - but I do have to admit, the rooftop bocce ball field and outdoor bar are amazing. Just make sure you utilize them at the right time of year. I was lucky to have visited the twin cities during amazing weather. Off season, 6 below and a frozen beer can definitely leave something to be desired.

Love it for watching "football", love it for the rooftop in the summer, but besides that I'm alright without it. The food is decent but not my favorite by any means. There have been several days where we skip right over it as a place to go eat because we don't really like the food. And typically whenever we go we end up spending over $50 each on beer, which is never fun to find out when the tab comes. But I do want to be a poser when and if I move and get one of their zip up jackets they sell because I think those look pretty sweet.

Brit's is one place where the space and the food are on equal par. It is an authentic English pub on the first floor but there are additional floors above with access to the patio and lawn. We were there early on a Saturday night and ate outside before going to the theatre. It was a fantastic way to begin our night.

Two questions--is this a pub? And, is it a British pub? This huge outdoor-indoor spot is pub like in that the tables are wobbly and sticky, while the waiters are college kids who seem to know drinks more than food and nothing about British pub fare or food. I hear there's a great happy hour and it looks like a fab place to grab an after work drink, especially in nice weather. It's British in that it hangs some UK memorabilia on the wall (like the obligatory Lady D pic), offers some UK staples for sale (like PG Tips), and has fish and chips on the menu. But a cup of tea isn't a British cup of tea, and there aren't other traditional items like a ploughman's--it seems more American than anything (though the manager had an Irish accent). While an imitation British Pub, the fries were good, my tuna melt a welcome shift from plane fare, the menu pretty large and the portions generous. And the place was hopping busy largely because as I heard one woman say, this could be the hottest day of the year in Minnesota. I'd go back if I needed to eat quick and nearby, and was in the mood for bar sandwiches and fries. I'd just forget it's trying to be British at all.

aaahh...a warm summer night....a bootlegger in hand...27 of my closest edina high school friends to my left and right....a nice game of bocce on the roof....Brits Pub kind of epitomizes a little bit of mn summer for me. The place is massive so, if you grew up here, you can put money on it that you'll run into someone (or 2 or 3 or 1239) that you know....be sure to order a bootlegger...i like mine with ketel one..... on any friday or saturday night, its a great pub to go and hang out, get rowdy, or just have a nice little night..post up and play some cards....i kind of love brits. aaahhh, i feel better now that thats out in the open.

Why do I like Brit's 1. They have Strongbow on tap 2. Awesome Artichoke dip 3. Can come in a group or fly solo and have a good time. Not a cheap nite, but always a good nite

First off, I am not cool enough to be in a lawn bowling league, and I'm certainly not competitive enough to join on either. But I think the concept is pretty awesome. At least for the two and a half months of summer, it is. Brit's is a great place partially for the beer selection (which, outside of the collection of pubs on Nicollet, seems hard to find anywhere else) and partially for the ample seating. Even at 11pm on a Saturday when its quite busy, we can always find seating at Brit's. In other places, finding seating at 11pm on a Saturday is sort of like having the Twins win the World Series... Maaaaybe if you're REAL lucky, but in reality... probably not. Also, finding Tennents and Harp on tap at a bar at 11pm on a Saturday (or any other day) is fairly rare. But fantastic as it is. There seems to be a good mix of folks here as well, and the crowd isn't as pretentious as most of downtown. Which may be why I prefer to sit around at the pub instead of getting swept away in the sea of less-than-clothed people/streetwalkers on First Ave. Also, no cover (duh), and the kitchen serves good bar food until fairly late. Check-plus. But really, I must admit that I enjoyed having the opportunity to watch some good soccer games on the tube. Really enjoyed it. It was sort of like going back to high school where I actually kept up with the teams and players and so on. Great escape from the crowd as well. Thanks, Brit's. You've served our departmental recruiting events well. Especially when the department pays for the beer (which is by no means cheap).

When you are new to the Twin Cities, Brits Pub is one of those places that everyone talks about. Everyone talks about the rooftop deck, the lawn bowling and the strong drinks. I've been in Minneapolis for a handful of years now and every time I step foot into Brits, I can't help but smile. The place just gets better and better over time. A few thoughts: 1. The lawn bowling is as good as advertised. When I first moved here I put my name on the list to get in a league.... They told me that there was approximately a 10 year wait. Only 6 years to go! 2. The rooftop is great in the summer. On a hot summer evening nothing is better than sitting out on the rooftop and sipping on a Boddingtons or a New Castle. 3. The scenery is great.... Target Corp. Nuff said. All in all, this is a must visit location in the Twin Cities. Make the trip downtown and if you get a chance....do some bowling.

Love it! This place is fantastic, the outdoor area and all the wood and leather indoors, very pretty and comfortable. I felt like I could have wasted a whole weekend away here. Prices were reasonable too. My only complaint would be that every person in our group who ordered a cocktail felt like they were a little sub-par, could be the bartenders need a little more practice in that arena. But regardless, definitely worth a few hours of your time.

This place is all about eating upstairs out back watching the lawn bowling... maybe inside if it's too hot or cold. Nothing stellar about being out front on the front patio on Nicollet mall other than the great company. ;-) Please note the inside is beautiful... festive and people having a good time, but it can get noisy. God forbid you sit anywhere near the bathrooms though as their blowers in their are trying to imitate a jet taking off. Just walking by ten feet away was annoying. That's because their food is just OK. Sure some may be reasonably sized (their burgers are NOT) like the pot roast, but none of it really tastes all that great. And some can just be weird like too much mint on a mango salad. So it's a bit of a premium on the price... I found it simply "so so" when it comes to food. Since there are many beer options, we love dark beers, it stays at a 3-star rating.

While on business, I had a quick lunch here. It came recommended by friends and also the hotel staff where I was staying. Overall, it was decent British fare. I had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of pubs/eating establishments in the UK. The prices and the service were average. Nothing over the top, but a decent place to spend a meal. Plus, fun people watching on Nicollet! P.S.-I'm not a drinker, but I did spot tons of beer options on the menu.

Went on a first date here... it was better than the date... :) Finding parking a bit of an adventure... food... well... it's British food--always a bit dodgy. But it was fine not great, but fine. They have Guinness which is really all the food you need, right? Waiter was cool... I loved the decor and after reading other reviews, can't wait to go back when it's warmer and see the roof... I also liked walking around in the little park just across the street. I saw lots of groups having fun so probably a great place to meet up with buddies- no worries about being too loud and a nice Euro touch is being able to sit with a drink for hours and not hurried off a table.

After attending an all day educational conference and being indoors I wanted to be outside enjoying the fresh air. The weather was nice, the humidity had subsided and we were very hungry after walking around downtown Minneapolis the outdoor patio at the Brit's Pub looked so very inviting. S and I love dark beers - and they had no problem accommodating us. I ordered a salad with mango, strawberries and roasted chicken topped with a refreshing mint dressing. S had the Guiness burger with cheese. He was a little disappointed with the size of the meat patty in relation to the size of the bun (the patty seemed to be overwhelmed in the bun) - but the salad was huge and refreshing (and thankfully, he was there to help me eat the salad). I didn't venture inside the pub, but S said that the interior was decorated in true English Pub style - and the highlight of the pub was the rooftop area where there was a lawn bowling in addition to dining. This is definitely the place to come to enjoy the great weather before the cold Minnesota weather returns again.

Brit's is probably best known for their amazing patio and lawn bowling. It's a favorite among the Target workers, where headquarters is right across the street. I've been to Brits a couple of times. One time for drinks and the other for dinner. It's always packed, full of young professionals. The food is semi-bland. Not sure if that's a British thing or just the actual food there. They have a decent happy hour. It's a little overrated. Try to get a seat on the front patio or rooftop deck because the inside is small and crowded.

Fantastic bar with several rooms and levels. I stayed in a hotel that overlooked their lawn bowling court (alley? Rink?) and decided to check it out. The front room is OK, but other rooms have better ambiance. Good live music too.

Great place. Went on a great night weather wise and sat upstairs and actually got a table, to which I was quite surprised. Not sure if the ladies I was with had something to do with that, but I didn't question it. We watched people lawn bowl and overall enjoy life. If at night, past happy hour, and sitting upstairs and outside, get your drink from the bar on the main floor and bring it outside. You'll wait a while if you wait in the line at the bar outside.

It's a nice place to spend a little time, and quite pub-like. There's outdoor seating, too. The service was slow, but friendly. There is one salad that's mostly vegan. They didn't get my order right, but I think that it was because about 30 people came in right after me. So, it was a big "meh" for me. The company I was with was better than the restaurant, but it was an excellent place for spending time with folks.

I am not a fan of places downtown because really I have a really bad sense of direction and get lost a bunch. However I have ended up here with friends more times than I can count. I have never played on the green on the roof. Though people look like they are having fun. Its a great place to go if you want to hang out on the roof and don't mind a packed place to do so. They have a really nummy tandori chicken pita thing. I also hear that they play British movies on the roof at times.

  • Laura B.

Always welcoming, great food with good atmosphere allowing for conversation in a relaxed environment. Have enjoyed pot roast, vegetarian -cheese bake and bread pudding, if it's just dessert time. Haven't tried the outdoor roof top patio or wide selection of beers, but the Brits and Irish around us seemed to be enjoying it thoroughly.

I love Brit's. It such an odd little place in Minneapolis. The food I've had there has always, and I mean ALWAYS been delicious. The service tends to be on the slow side; never have had the greatest experience on that end of things, but I was usually there with a group of college reps after the Twin Cities College Fair at lunch time, so that could be part of it. Never got to play lawn bowling on the roof, a regret I have to this day.

Arrived in Minneapoils hungry! Dropped the rental at the hotel and hit the pavement. The door guy pointed us to a few places, and we decided that a pub burger sounded good. The first place we came to was Brit's. And they were showing the match. Holland was in the process of destroying Italy (Euro 2008). Thirsty. They had a decent selection of British pints. I had the Olde Speckled Hen, a tasty one I don't see around much. Other than that it was pretty standard fare with Boddington's, Fuller's, Guiness, and a few more. The service was friendly. The lunch was fine, but unspectacular. I had the curry chicken sandwich. Another night I returned to watch Portugal lay the hammer down on the Czech Republic, where I had snakebites and scotch eggs. There's lawn bowling too, but I didn't realize that the first time, and it was dark and raining the second visit. So I'll take their word for it. UPdate: I just remembered the major reason for dropping them to 4 *'s: their beer is friggin expensive.

In NY, Chicago, or SF this place would be just another bar - a place for friends to get together, enjoy some drinks, have some good times. It's a shame tho that here the Brit is sort of a theme park for corporate drones. The service is on par with clientelle. Quickest pint of Guinness in town! There is no love and no, they will not remember your name. Admittedly the prospect of lawn bowling is very cool, but try getting in without being in a league. That's right, it's exclusive, and its not for you.. Go to O'Donnovans, their whiskey selection is way better anyway. The Brit does not need your patronage.

Brit's is one of those places that you love, and also hate (just a little) at the same time. Luckily for me, I love it and so I head there on occasion to eat some yummy pub food (gotta love the Scotch Eggs and Shepard's Pie), grab a pint, and people watch. Brit's also happens to have one of the most amazing patios in the Twin Cities, so it a definite destination if you want some prime outdoor summer patio happy hours. Only warning is that the place can sometimes be crawling with creepy pompous downtown douchbags...but if you can avoid them, you will really enjoy your outing to Brit's!

"We don't give out band-aids." Apparently, that's policy because more than one waitress used those exact words. Not "we don't have any band-aids" but "we don't GIVE OUT band-aids." One of them mumbled it was for insurance reasons. One person in my group cut her finger on a piece of broken glass, but this bloody finger could get no sympathy and certainly no band-aid. Apparently, it's better policy to let them bleed all over the restaurant. I suppose this is just the level of service they provide. It took 2 hours to get a table, then another half hour to get anyone to take an order from us. I used to avoid this place because the crowd was too older/professional for me. Now I can avoid them because the service sucks.

I came mid-day mid-week so we were the only ones. We ate so we weren't there to drink and it wasn't anything special presentation or taste wise. I had the salmon, the 5 other people I was with didn't rave about their food either

I just moved to the area, and the first thing that everyone told me is to check out Brit's. I guess it's the local/touristy hang out. I finally went there this Sat, and wasn't extremely impressed. A group of 6 of us went in and sat at a table and it took roughly 30 minutes to get the attention of a server to take our drink orders. After she brought our drinks she never came back, and we had to go to the bar anytime we needed anything the rest of the night. We were pretty hungry, but we didn't even end up eating, because we didn't want to wait. The atmosphere was good, and the large back patio would be great for warm days, I'd still like to go back to try a meal sometime. I'll keep you guys posted on the results.

The service was sucky, the waitress was flighty and easily distracted. The food was pretty decent. I had a London Broil Steak sandiwch with Stilton Cheese and sauteed mushrooms and onions. It was very good. I heard the bangers and mash was good too and the pot pies. The chips were just right. I just got into MPLS that day and was famished. This place was around the corner from the hotel. They have lawn bowling (looks fun, but in February it was too cold for it), and have their own beer. Didn't have any ale or beer b/c like an ass, I forgot my ID in the hotel room, and it was brutally cold, so I wasn't going to go back. I would go back if I was there, but I wouldn't take a "foodie trip" out there. The waitress was too aloof. Next time I'll eat at the bar.

I went to Brit's at a time when Prince William got married and the decor in the pub was just suited for this occasion. I didn't actually order food here but I did have a couple of drinks, the Chocolate Cake and the Vodka Gimlett. The drinks contained a lot of alcohol which was definitely worth the money but I thought the service was very poor. We were sitting on a table, possibly deciding on ordering a snack for our drinks, however no one came to wait on us and we decided to finish our drinks and leave.

I absolutely love this place. Great way to enjoy a pleasant evening. The inside isn't anything special, two story pub. The food is decent, but the people are great. Especially fun to sit outside on the roof and watch the lawn bowlers. If you want to foot the bill to lawn bowl it's a lot of fun with 4+ friends. They have leagues that play all summer long. Great place to just chill on a summer night and meet new people, while having a blast.

I just wondered in to Brits while on a business trip and went back the next day. The food was great both times. The chicken pot pie comes with an amazing gravy. Good place to hang out outside or watch a game too. If I go back to Minneapolis I'll definitely make a stop here.

I like going with friends to "the pub" for a snakebite or an ale. Brit's has a fun atmosphere and the food is great too. The downside... -There's some exec/business elites that hog the place in droves. But hey, a business is a business. -The wait staff can really be parsnippity... I think it's just due to the sheer volume of people that move through the place and can hence make it quite irritatingly crowded though. Overall, I'd recommend that you CHECK IT OUT!

It's a good place to stop for a drink or bite if you're going to the Minnesota Orchestra or some other place in the area. The atompshere is very "Hi, I work for the Target corporation and Minneapolis is my urban dream." But, everyone is pretty nice and civil, and its not too rowdy. On the plus side...they do have Red Stripe. Repeat they do have red stripe. I have to give them that. Food is so-so...I mean come on it is a British Pub. Order something safe and you'll be fine.

had such a great time here - i was in on business and we came here with some clients after our social hour. 4 stars, close to 5 even, for the lawn bowling (not sure what it's called?), and great selection of beer. the waitress was great and made it really easy to find something comparable to what i normally prefer. the guys we were with said the food was awesome also - bangers, fish and chips etc. definitely would go back here and love the atmosphere.

When desparate an okay place to stop for a pint. Fair selection of ales, lagers and stouts. Tea is unique. The food is horrible (do they do this on purpose?) and the place is full of wankers -- especially in the summer upstairs and outside by the lawn bowling.

    (2)
  • Hannie L.

I'd give Brit's 5-stars in the summer because of the outdoor seating, lawn bowling and Tuesday night movies (so fun!). In the winter, it really is run of the mill inside and then I'd give it only 3-stars. Brits does have a good variety of beer, including typically British brands and the food is defiitely of above average quality for bar food. I've definitely grabbed a quick bite here after work in the winter and it is sufficient though not nearly as fun as what this place offers in the summer.

Brit's is a great place for some good food. The bangers and mash is delicious, great beer, and lawn bowling makes for an excellent time. Nothing beats eating on the roof next to the lawn either.

Was just in town for a conference and was walking the N. Mall - enjoying the lovely 70 degree weather - and saw a pretty packed patio here at Brit's, all outdoors enjoying great weather, good food and good people watching. My service wasn't the best - but the food was the traditional british pub fare that you'd expect (even had bangers and mash on the menu!) I'd go back - def. sitting outside again - but want a more attentive waiter.

I stopped I before a concert one weekend and I loved the place. The food was really good and the out door rooftop seating was great. The only negative thing was the server, we sat our selves so it took a while for them to realize we where there.

Brits Pub the only thing it had in common with a British Pub was the Price of a Pint! I don't know where to begin about this place, been there multiple times for the last year since I moved here. And when I got back home today I just felt that I needed to write a review. First time and hopefully last but, it needs to be done.... I only go there to watch sport events that's the only reason mainly. The atmosphere today was probably my favorite, Lets start of with a rude barmen. Its early Sunday morning (0730) I wouldn't really want to be behind a bar either. Watch the game for 90min, not once is my coffee refilled or even been asked to be refilled, I think it was coffee anyways but I couldn't really taste it. while I'm watching the game kitchen staff are walking around the joint with there hands in there pockets looking like something out of Dawn of the Dead, now i thought to myself that's probably why it took them 45min to make me a flipping sandwich last Sunday. Now if you are a Rugby fan dig into your pockets, because they want 20 Bucks from you to watch a game. Then beer and a bite to eat maybe= a lot of bees and honey.

Stopped by for drinks and an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. Despite being fairly empty when we came in, service was abysmal; long waits with empty glasses in front of us and a poor attitude from the wait staff. When we asked for mistakes made on our food order to be corrected, we were given attitude and no apologies. We asked for the Twins' game to be put on the tv multiple times and were repeatedly told that a manager had been called....for 40+ minutes. Again, no apologies. We finally went to track the manager down ourselves and it was pretty apparent that none of the three waitstaff we had asked had approached him yet. Bottom line: Extremely mediocre food and extremely poor service. I will be going elsewhere for drinks the next time I visit the Twin Cities.

Watched the World Cup final game in 2006 on the rooftop bowling green. The place is an institution for Minneapolis and deserves a visit to check out the roof (in the summer at least). One of the places you'll get authentic british beer and pub food in Minneapolis. The location is also great for strolling through downtown Minneapolis. Cricket and football (the real kind) games are shown on the weekend too.

I think this place is really cool. I don't drink beer, but that's not all this place has-- contrary to what one might be led to think by the name. This place is especially fun with a group. I didn't try any food, but I can't imagine it being very good, just because I don't find British food particularly appetizing... Anyway, drinks are good, even though they're not cheap. The reason this place gets my A-OK is because I love sitting in a bar where I can hear what the person across the table from me is saying, with out me having to yell/listen very carefully or attempt to read their lips to understand/hear them! This place, is that place. Even cooler is the upstairs :):):):)

The best pub I've been to since I was in Britain! With a fun, laid-back crowd who just want to enjoy a Strongbow or Guinness, watch the game, and eat some grub, this is joint to be at. I tried the chips with curry (for all us Americans, that means fries and curry sauce) which was an awesome combo that I would have never thought of and the Scotch Eggs which sounded so interesting I had to nibble - hard boiled eggs wrapped in banger sausage and bread crumbs then deep-fried. Food the English actually got right...no mushy peas or cucumber sandwiches! I'll definitely be back for more fun ole chap:)

I participate in their monthly trivia contests, which get a huge turn out. I enjoy coming on these nights as they are upstairs in the loft and are casual, competitive, and fun. The food is fare, my favorite is the Beefeater, which is a pot roast sandwich served with horseradish. Other food on the menu is traditional English fare. Haven't been there for the lawn bowling or outdoor movies on the roof in the summer. I have been coming to Brit's regularly for the last two years and has remained consistent through out my visists.

We ate outside on the sidewalk tables, because it was such a beautiful night and we didn't want to fight the crowds upstairs. My mango chicken salad was good, the mango was over ripe and mushy. My husband's turkey burger was a disappointment, although very tasty, it really wasn't much bigger than a slider, and the coleslaw was in a tiny cup, so he really wasn't satisfied even when he had the rest of my salad.

Rooftop lawn bowling! I haven't been here in a while, what with being on the East and West coast the last couple years, but I think of it every summer when I wish I could be at a good pub with lawn bowling on the second floor terrace. There's something about a pub (rather than a bar) that just implies you'll be in a place with good, greasy fish and chips, sitting in a room with somewhat upscale decor (read: dark wood finish), and somewhat more expensive drinks. Brit's pub delivers on all of this, plus lawn bowling. It's just a nice option to go upstairs and play it with a group of friends on a downtown rooftop next to the Doubletree Hotel. Alternatively, you can sit out front on the ground floor, and maybe catch some of the tunes from Orchestra Hall if summerfest is going on across Nicollet. P.S. Their artichoke dip is not too shabby either.

I have to say although this bar has a lot to offer it always comes up short for me. It's the kind of place where you tend to run into all these people that you can't be real with. Fake facades, yuppies, and cubicle slaves can be found here in abundance. I would say take a seat on the patio out front and steer clear of the 2nd level...in fact, this place is best encountered before the sun goes down. Cheers...

Went away here for a weekend with my boyfriend and England is one of my favorite places un this world so Brits was a given. The establishment is huge and was packed on an early Saturday evening. The lawn for the bowling was gorgeous, had a big screen tv, little s rands to put your beer and very green grass. We didn't eat, just had some drinks with a friend, nothing to rave about there. I loved the real London phone booth they had here! I would gladly return on my next visit

Sitting on the roof enjoying a good IPA, the clouds at sunset, great friends and great waitstaff. I'll go several times this week.

There's not too much more to say that hasn't already been said, but I have to say "Pass the Bangers and Mash, Baby!" Since it's run by a denizen of the UK, it makes the Guiness taste a little bit better than any other place. The lawn bowling is the perfect unique touch for a taste of Britain in the Twin Cities.

okay, i love brit's again. it seems like i do this every few years. i visit, love it, love the food, and promise that i'll visit again soon. then life gets in the way, one thing after another, and the years pass. the artichoke and spinach dip is delicious. thick, cheesy, perfect on a crisp baguette. tonight, i passed on my usual fish and chips to try the dubliner BLT. good, thick bacon and irish cheddar makes a delicious combination. my companions had the jewel in the crown, a chicken curry with basmati rice and mango chutney, of which i managed to steal a bit. very good, much better than the chicken curry i had in london which put me off the concept for a decade, not too spicy. the mango chutney was excellent, and i finished off a small bowl by itself. and someone promote the guy with the awesome moustache.

I've been here so many times I've lost count. Great summer bar with the lawn bowling on the roof. Okay food (I mean how good can English food really be?) But great atmosphere! and people watching!

Travel to Minneapolis once in a while. Good spot offering a fresh take on outdoor enjoyment - lawn bowling. I'd love to see this on a rooftop in NY. Food was, eehhh, British. Some of the lawn bowling guys were a bit frat-ish/tough guy, but whatever. They had cold beers so it's easy to ignore. I'd go back in the summer for a couple.

I've been only once thus far, for lunch. The food was decent-enough, however our waiter was not the best, by any stretch. He seemed a bit clueless, in-fact (not to say he wasn't nice, he just wasn't super attentive). For example, the beer he set down for my husband was quite full, and in passing it over me to get to him, he sloshed quite a bit, which landed on me, as well as our uncle. He didn't apologize, because I don't even think he noticed. I'd like to give this place another shot, as I've heard good things.

We've gone here several times for lunch with a big crew of kids and adults and we've always had a great experience. I'm vegetarian and the menu actually has some great options for me (I love the portobello sandwich). The carnivores in my group also came away happy with their meals. Very relaxed environment that I make sure is a stop for any guests that we have in town. I haven't experienced the night life yet so I can't comment on that, but the lunches that I've had there (and the beers) are top notch!!!!!

I have been here for various occasions and can say this place has a lot to offer. In the summer they have an awesome patio which has been mentioned a number times and lawn bowling. I haven't bowled, but it looks like a good time. Quite a few people have mentioned slow and/or bad service. I haven't experienced this, but It does get crazy busy, so plan to wait for a table. I find the the door man and the older English gentleman that seats you, quite amusing. He has always been very friendly and sweet. I had the broccoli and cheese soup on my last visit and it was delcious. I am also a fan of the burgers and fries and of course most importantly the beer.

I never "just drop in" to Brit's. There's always a reason like meeting someone from out of town who's staying downtown because it's convenient and easy, a movie on the lawn, lawn-bowling, or--my favorite--football, uh I mean soccer, matches.. And by the time I get over the English pubness of it all, I end have a couple Woodpeckers and always have a god time. As far as the food is concerned, it's not bad, maybe even pretty good as far as English food is concerned. As far as ambiance is concerned, the rooftop lawn is one of the greatest rooftops on the city, and is a wonderful place to whittle away the day (or night).

Since my review of the competing pub in downtown was received so well *coughROTDcough* it seemed natural for me to review Brit's. Hey, stick with what works, right? And since I know I'm being judged, let's break it up a bit. Useful: Brit's is a shockingly big place. It doesn't look big from the street, but between the several rooms downstairs, the upstairs, and the tables around the bowling green (we'll get to that in a bit), you can pack A LOT of people in here. And if you come after 6 on a Friday, that's what you're going to find. Crowds aren't my thing, so I try to visit during the week, when you can create a nicely intimate environment in leather wingback chairs. The pub food is traditional, authentic, and very good. Oddly, I DON'T like their fish and chips, because they use too high-quality a fish. Fish and chips demands some kind of garbage fish to be tasty, not prime cod. Funny: when I was but a wee little law student, desperate for a job (the market when I graduated was dismal), I found myself interviewing at the law firm where several of the founders of this pub work. I won't name names; you either know who they are or you don't. Anyway, I mentioned that I liked the pub, and the lawn bowling (more on that later). Unfortunately, it had the opposite of its intended effect: he was freaked out that I knew that much about him. The fact that I was at that time working for the federal prosecutor's office probably had something to do with that. He mentioned something about SEC reports during my interview. Needless to say, I didn't get the job. Cool: Some years later, having conned not 1 but 2 firms into hiring me (consecutively, not concurrently), I was at Brit's for the firm's annual lawn bowling tournament. Not to be confused with the lawn bowling league that Brit's runs. No, our firm does our own. Because, out on Brit's immense patio, there is a regulation size bowling green for good old fashioned English lawn bowling. I showed up dressed in the traditional white shirt and white pants. The brown belt and Sperry topsiders were a little less than traditional, but I'm not buying a whole wardrobe for a once-a-year event. As for my performance, I'll merely repeat what I have said many times: I'm a dilettante. I do a LOT of things pretty darn well (but very very few things excellently). Turns out, lawn bowling is one of the things I'm pretty darn good at. [Side note: so is racing remote-control boats in a swimming pool. And softball. By the time I left the firm, I had a reputation as a ringer.] Somewhere out there, there are pictures of Ben P decked out in whites. And if you find them, I'll sue to prevent their publication. National security and all that. I'm sure you understand.

awesome fish n' chips, best in town i think. My wife also really like's their salads. The atmosphere is pretty good too. For nice days in the summer, you really should sit on the roof, and watch the lawn bowling. kind of expensive for what you get, but people keep coming back, so can you blame them?

The atmosphere is good anytime of day. I've been for lunch or just appetizers and drinks for dinner. I enjoyed the portabello mushroom sandwich, but I didn't like the tomato soup.

Great summer downtown happy hour location! We had a group of 20 or so on a nice hot day initially gathering on the lower outside patio waiting for a table indoors. I did not get a chance to see or order off of the happy hour menu, I generally stuck with the $6 Bass/New Castles. After the main group left we ordered a round of chicken wings, the sampler, and artichoke dip. All the apps were fantastic, this might have been the first time I had a scotch egg, deep fried goodness. Great place, nice patio, great day out for it. Lawn bowling for a group I believe is $100/hr a bit pricy to play but, fun to watch while sipping a beer on the patio, great place for people watching as well. Service into the later evening was a bit slow being about as far as you could get on the patio and had to go up to the bar for drinks where our waiter was hanging out.
