I've seen this place pop up on my home page a few times but it never interested me enough to go out of my way to try it. However, I happened to be driving past the other day so I thought I'd give them a shot. I should have kept driving. First, I arrived at about 11:40 am and they were closing at noon so I didn't expect a huge variety of doughnuts. They did have: 1) Nutella filled 2) Vanilla filled 3) Raised glazed 4) Glazed sprinkled and 5) 1 Lavender doughnut. Unfortunately there were no brown butter glazed, chocolate cake or lemon doughnuts which were the three I really wanted to try. So I picked out 8 doughnuts - 7 in the box and one for the road (if I keep one out I won't open the box on the way home, right?). One of my biggest issues wasn't really doughnut related but instead was about the coffee...or lack thereof. Yes, I know you are about to close, but NO COFFEE? No, I didn't want an iced cold press coffee - I wanted my coffee hot, strong and black the way God and my hero Juan Valdez meant coffee to be. Instead I had to settle for a tiny plastic cup of a cold black liquid I could hold in my hand without risk of tissue damage. Strike one Now the doughnuts. The lavender donut was my roadie - I expected it be bursting with a flowery flavor that would awaken my senses while I pouted about getting cold coffee. Alas, it was not to be. I can't really describe the taste since there really wasn't one. Maybe a slight hint of Febreeze and a little sugar. Not the way I'd make a donut but then again I'm no expert like these guys obviously must be. I will say that I didn't realize the size of the other doughnuts until I got home and open the box (yes, it survived the ride home intact). They are certainly larger than your normal doughnut. But really, that was the only thing that made them stand out. The filled and raised doughnuts were a little dry for my taste - not what I was expecting because they actually looked amazing. The filling was OK but certainly not enough based on the size of the container. The sprinkled donut was, like the Febreeze donut, largely flavorless (according to my daughter - the bedazzled food expert). Strike two Then....the cost. $23 bought me 8 doughnuts and small cold coffee flavored liquid. Yes...a lot of weight and volume but not really a lot of taste. Strike three. Finally, don't even THINK about saving a couple of these for the next day. HARD. AS. A. ROCK. Even the microwave couldn't save them. Will I be back? Yes, I have to try the brown butter glazed and the lemon but I certainly won't be going out of my way.

If you like soft, fluffy, dense, melt-in-your-mouth donuts, you will NOT find that here. We went in around 10am on Saturday morning and picked up a vanilla doughnut with vanilla buttercream filling - it took forever to get to the center filling (imagine a tiny hamburger patty in the biggest bun possible) which was the saddest and driest little thing I have ever seen in a filled pastry. We also got a citrus filled doughnut and the raised and glazed (dry and drier) and don't even get me started on the doughnut holes - were they day old??? I wanted to like this place because of the hype but there was not a single doughnut that I enjoyed from start to finish. They were dry and crusty and reminded me of a stale popover but even those are chewier. As for the staff - the young gentleman working the counter was friendly. He greeted us and then shoved all of the donuts into one little bag. Inside I was freaking out b/c who wants doughnuts that have been stacked and rubbing?

Yes. Just yes. Yes. Yes. HELL YES. You have to check these guys out. Their brown butter glazed donut is MONEY. It's so good. It poops mini donut holes on any other donut I've tasted. It's light and fluffy but it has rich, sweet texture. It's so good I went back in and bought another to bring home for the wife. Ha! They have a stack of other kinds too that look gorgeous. The location is great, it has a New York hole in the wall like eatery kinda vibe with its white subway tile and red lettering. Their branding is really cool and.... whatever, it doesn't matter. Their donuts are so freaking good I was happy to take a minor pause on my 30-day sugar free health kick. It was TOTALLY WORTH IT. Go. NOW!

Niche-baked-good shops are such a goddamned consistent letdown. Everything sounds intriguing- creative flavor combos, unique flourishes, trendy marketing- but they always fall down on the basics. (I'm looking at you, cupcake shops!) Bogarts, unfortunately, proved this rule. Pro: The Nutella doughnut had Nutella in it. Con: The dough for the doughnut, which comprised 80% of the doughnut experience, was flavorless. Just tasted like flour and a bit of butter, and the texture wasn't brioche-like; it was heavy and weirdly chewy. And, consistent with other niche-baked-good shops, the price point is silly for the quality and quantity of the product.

Completely agree with Ali M. Those who are complaining about paying $2-$3 per doughnut here are cray cray. You're essentially getting a half loaf of delicious, perfectly baked, fluffy brioche with incredible, unique doughnut toppings on it 5 minutes from Calhoun. Plus, these things are bigger than my hand. How is that not worth the money? The only reason I'm taking a star off is because their special Harry Potter "butterbeer" doughnut (seriously, how can any self-respecting Ravenclaw pass that up?) could have used just a touch more butterscotch flavor. It was begging for it...oh so close to being a perfect combination with the Butterfinger crunch and marshmallow but ended up just slightly on the bland side. I've also had better cake donuts, but the chocolate cake was solid. No complaints. DAT BROWN BUTTER GLAZED, THO. That thing is perfection in doughnut form. Words don't do it justice. Just go get it. I'd pay $10 just to have the pleasure of tasting it again for the first time and having my mind blown from the ensuing ecstasy. Possibly the single best doughnut in the entirety of the Twin Cities. Nutella-filled was five-star worthy, too (then again, I'm a sucker for the stuff). I'm off to start my own doughnut shop that only makes maple bacon, IPA, sriracha, nutella-infused doughnuts with blood orange marmalade and small-batch whiskey drizzle (definitely calling it the Bono). Possibly a bourbon-barrel aged stout doughnut, as well. With bacon braised kale. Thanks for the million dollar idea, Ali.

Service was very friendly. I always like to ask their opinions on their favorites when making my decision. There were only about 6 flavors to choose from, and none were very fancy. I ended up selecting the lavender donut and the vanilla buttercream donut, based upon their feedback. Both were good, but nothing special. The buttercream was delicious, but the donut itself was covered in sugar so it made a huge mess in my car. The lavender was a subtle flavor but it was nice. Too expensive for what they were.

Bogart's is the closest donut shop to me. That is a good thing, but also a bad thing. Donuts are the new cupcakes (I'm rolling my eyes right now), and I feel like so many donut shops have popped up all over in the last few years. I prefer Bogarts, since they're less crazy and more classic- raised cake donuts in simple but well executed flavors. Lavender and brown butter glaze are my favorites, but they're all good. The iced coffee is great, and they have this really great homemade vanilla bean syrup- so much better than Starbucks. Love the branding in the shop- every basic white girl I'm friends with has Instagrammed their DONUTS sign- and the friendly service too. One of the best parts of their service is that you can order online! When I'm tasked to bring breakfast to the office, I love coming here because you can just swing by and all of your donuts are ready to go. The one thing I don't like is how fast they run out of some of their best donuts- they operate on a "once we're out, we're out" modus operandi. I feel like most of the time I'm here the Nutella filled ones are gone. ...but maybe that's life's way of telling me I have been eating too many donuts.

  • Ali M.

So. Maybe I'm a doughnut retard. Perhaps I don't have the slightest clue what makes a doughnut delicious. Maybe I'm the Helen Keler of the doughnut world: deaf, dumb, and blind to the intricacies of doughnut science. But what in the actual fuck, Yelp? I like these doughnuts. Yeah, I fuckin' said it. They are by far and away better than those baked abortions at Glam Doll (bitchy review pending) and they are most certainly better than anything I've had from one of the highly-touted-amongst-smug-white-people bakeries that exist within the 612. Honestly, outside of Dunkin Donuts (because eat a dick if you disagree, those bastards are delicious) and Tim Horton's - Bogart's probably has my favorite doughnut ever...that lemon one. Good lord. Yes. I tried six different varieties of doughnuts (they had 8 that particular day) and none of them were offensive. My least favorite was the Nutella because *eyeroll* enough already. Seriously. I keep patiently waiting for one of these trendy, AMX catering bakeries to start selling a maple bacon, IPA, Sriracha, Nutella infused doughnut with a blood orange marmalade served with a shot of some small batch whiskey that one of their hipster employees drank in Ireland with Bono and you've never heard of it because you're not cool. It's gonna happen. In closing...these doughnuts get written about like they're the ones who wrote that shitty finale to Dexter and I just don't get it. But, maybe I don't have high doughnut standards. I just have a high person who likes doughnuts standards. i.imgur.com/vOnOEKk.gif Seriously...that lemon doughnut tho? Put it in your mouth. Oh and...I don't think this place is overpriced given the neighborhood and the doughnut pricing structure set by Glam Doll. I paid $14 for half a dozen doughnuts. That seemed fair to me. This isn't SA.

I have to be honest...I was so psyched to try Bogarts and it kinda let me down. We tried three different donuts and none of them lived up to the hype. The chocolate cake donut was super dry. I sorta liked the butter cream but the donut itself was just meh. The Nutella donut was probably the best one but I still felt like I was eating a day old donut. Why so dry?! Glam Doll and Woullet's are still my favorites.

I kind of feel bad for leaving a mediocre review for this place, but I have to. Since it was a holiday weekend and I was actually around while they were open, I decided to check them out. The staff was friendly and quick, and the store is nice and clean. And I agree with a number of other people that the brown-butter-glazed doughnuts are absolutely delicious; the almost-caramel taste fills your mouth and nose, and is almost too rich by the end. Unfortunately, the other two doughnut types I tried were tasteless. I don't mean "bad" or "gross". They just had no flavor. I'm not sure how a glazed doughnut can be un-fun to eat, but I had two bites and then thought, "I don't want any more of this." I'd been excited to see they had a lavender cake doughnut, because I love the lavender coffee cake over at May Day Cafe. However, although there is some kind of faint flavor in the cake doughnut, if you'd fed it to me blindfolded, there's no way I would have guessed it was supposed to be lavender. And I put that one down after a couple of bites, too. If I'm going to take in a bunch of calories, I want to enjoy the eating experience. And it cost me $6 for the three doughnuts. Like I said, they seem like nice people, but in future I will likely just drive over to A Baker's Wife, where $6 will buy an entire dozen of their FLAVORFUL little cake doughnuts. Sorry, Bogart's.

Cute doughnut shop and the staff was super friendly! We called ahead and they put the vanilla raised glazes aside for us; glad we did because when we got there it was sold out! We bought the vanilla glaze and a brown butter glaze! The brown butter glaze was better than the vanilla. The dough that was used in the vanilla raised glazed seemed like a brioche, it wasn't bad, it was a different taste than your traditional doughnut. Also it seemed like there was too much dough and not a good amount of glaze. We loved the HUGE size and thickness of the doughnut! Pricing was a little high for a doughnut. Glad we got to try!

  • Ujin J.

Oh wow! I am glad I never gave up their donuts!!! They probably need some time to figure out the best donut batter for everyone's taste and they have nailed it(at least for me) :) I love their Orange zest and donut holes!! Actually everything

  • Robert S.

They do a good job with the glazed yeast doughnut and the lavender cake had good flavor and moisture. Stop by if you're in the area and want a good basic doughnut. If you're looking for something different and interesting this is not the place to go. Stay away from the doughnuts covered in loose sugar, they dry out fast and could use mire filling.

  • Montessahall H.

Really good donuts that could be too much of a good thing...They are very, very thick, soft and fresh. Too thick really. I was able to slice each of my six doughnuts crosswise, made my own Brown Butter Glaze and rocked on! Good value when you consider I doubled my purchase. Tried the Blueberry Hand Pie, it was meh. I don't recommend it. Service is fast and friendly.

Nothing but a doughnut window for 6-7 options, some are amazing others fall short. I'm a huge fan of Yo-Yo Donuts in Minnetonka. I've tried the competitors, Glam Doll, Denny's, Yo-Yo, etc. and Bogart's can compete but isn't the clear winner. Lots of other people complained in reviews about how dry the doughnuts are here, and I didn't find that to be of particular concern. People also complained about the staff. While the staff I met didn't go out of their way to do anything amazing, they did quickly serve me and check me out - there isn't much more I could ask from them. The Brown Butter Glazed raised doughnut is one of the best sweet treats I've ever had. It can go head to head with the Yo-Yo Donuts Maple Glazed Bacon Long John any day, and I'll take one of each! The problem was that the rest of the items I tried were nothing special; at all. The Chocolate Cake doughnut had almost no flavor and was very much like a dense cake, it also was oddly shaped and almost a sphere vs a doughnut shape. The Lavender which I anticipated to be strong, was far from it. What flavor it did have made me think I was eating a candle. The biggest disappointment by far was the Nutella doughnut. It was(as others have said) dry, rolled in coarse sugar, and was almost flavorless outside of the dollup of Nutella. Sure the Nutella was great, but it is on its own and the deep fried dough added nothing to it. Nutella and Siracha are two things that every hip shop likes to add but it doesn't guarantee a hit and this is a prime example. Overall, I was underwhelmed by everything on the menu outside of the Brown Butter Glazed. The problem is that it was so unbelievably amazing that I will still have to come back for that one prize and avoid the rest. Your best bet is to head over to Yo-Yo if you really want a great selection and variety.

: ( so bummed out that I didn't like these donuts. My daughter and I are on a mission to find our favorite donut shop in the cities and sadly Bogarts didn't fit the bill. We are looking for the old school traditional donuts, which Bogarts is not. That being said, they are doing something right for a lot of folks based on many good reviews. We got their late (11am Saturday) and only a few flavors remaining. Tried the regular glazed and lemon filled. The brioche dough was just too heavy and thick, no fluff, melt in your mouth goodness. The size was good for the money, each donut is easily the size of two 'normal' donuts.

This place was just terrible!! It was recommended so highly by a twin cities magazine, but I was so turned off! First off, there are like 4 different donuts to choose from, and they are all really dry flavors - no frosting or anything, just some sugar maybe. The staff was not very friendly, and there is nearly nowhere to eat your donut in the storefront (not good for winter time), and the donuts aren't cheap. Most importantly, the donuts are nearly inedible. They are so dry and chewy I thought I was going to choke to death. Each bite you could feel moving down your throat in the most uncomfortable way. Others I went with agreed, so I am not just bad at chewing. I left with a very damaged esophagus.

  • Keith S.

Some interesting reviews here... I've tried quite a few of the flavors and have been a pretty big fan of all of them. Yes, these are a "drier" donut but they are not dry. Not all carbs are created equal and it's nice to get a donut that has personality. Favorites: Apple hand pie. Was afraid the filling would disappoint, it didn't. Vanilla bean Brown butter Nutella It can be a little frustrating to stop over earlyish in the morn and have them sold out already which has happened so I can relate to that. I've never been a "sit down in a bakery and eat" guy so not having that option doesn't bother me. Give me my donut and I'm out. Service has been perfectly acceptable in my experiences. I'm buying a donut, not a house.

I consider myself to be a donut connoisseur of sorts. At this point I have tried nearly all of the big places in the twin cities and several around the country including the famed Voodoo in Portland. This little storefront store definitely knows how to do it right! I've seen some of the complaints of them running out but when the product is amazing, what do you expect?? I'd rather have quality over quantity. Plus, it's easy to step around this issue by reserving your order online. I knew I wouldn't be able to get there before 10:30 on Sunday and I didn't want to miss out on the best ones. No problem, two minutes online and I just had to walk in and pay for my fresh doughnuts. Good thing too as only the sprinkles and chocolate covered ones were left at that point. On to the doughnuts. I tried the Brown Butter, Vanilla Bean and Nutella filled. All were a perfect crisp on the outside, soft on the inside texture. Flavors were perfect but not too overwhelming. Left me in a nice doughnut coma afterwards.

Literally drive by here everyday, and now that that lines have shortened a bit I figured it was time to get carbed-up on a nice Friday morning. Had to get the bosses some doughnuts so they didn't give me too hard of a time for taking 2 weeks off for a road trip. Got just 6, 2 Nutella, 2 brown butter glazed, and 2 standard glazed. Nutella-Tasty, but too doughey and not enought Nutella (like, a tablespoon only. Its a doughnut, no need to hold back calories ladies!) Brown Butter-I was like Craig and Smokey in Friday "DAAAAAAAAMN!) That was frigging good. The doughnut itself was just as about as perfect as a glazed ring can be. Standard Glazed- I am sure it was good, I was just too knocked over by the brown butter glazed to really care. Friendly Ladies behind the counter, typical high boutique doughnut shop prices ($2 with a hole, $3 with) I will keep them in the doughnut rotation!!!

I gave this place a chance, and tried out the donuts on two different occasions; both times the donuts were not good. The nutella stuffed donut is so dry; its' only highlight is the nutella. The chocolate cake donut tasted funky. Two of my friends who were with me couldn't handle more than one bite of it either. It had no chocolate flavor, and was dry, and left you with a bad aftertaste.

tried a few offerings and the flavors were enjoyable, but the dough itself is pretty standard. nothing impressive.

I think I went in with expectations that were way too high. One of my favorite sweet treats in the TC is the pastry creme filled brioche at Salty Tarte. So when I heard about Bogart's and their vanilla bean filled brioche doughnut, I couldn't wait to try it. I went in on Tuesday morning at about 8:30am. There was a small line, about 5 people ahead of me, it moved quickly. All the doughnuts remaining were very done and dark brown, which is not my preference. They did not look like the pictures posted here, which look perfect. So I picked up 2 of the vanilla bean filled and hopped back on my bike for the ride home. I was almost scared to try it. I had built this thing up so much in my mind after everything I've read that in all honesty it probably wasn't fair to this dark little vanilla bean filled doughnut. It had a lot to live up to. The doughnut part was good but a bit dry. The vanilla creme had a different, but good, flavor, but it was very, very runny. Luckily I was holding it over the bag as I ate because about half the filling dripped out of the doughnut. That was kind of weird. All in all, it was an OK doughnut but nothing worth $3 a piece and another 6 mile round trip bike ride.

Donuts are my guilty pleasure and the creme-filled and nutella-filled donuts are great. The kind that you cut in half then eat the other half later anyways...

Although it's nice to have a doughnut shop in the neighborhood, I'm afraid this is just another pretentious South Minneapolis storefront with more buzz than substance. I've been there a few times and each time the selection is the same, the staff never welcomes me as I enter the door, and the price astounds me... I will say that the Lavender cake doughnut is great with a hot cup of coffee! When you dunk it, it absorbs the liquid instead of flaking apart in the cup. Plus, it's not sweet (which I like), so you don't feel strung out on sugar after eating it. Altogether, it wouldn't hurt the business to get more than just a warm body behind the counter, and maybe offer a discount when you purchase a large quantity of their product. $24 for a dozen ( not even a Bakers dozen), is pretty ridiculous.

    (3)
  • Adam S.

I like Bogart's. I am just conceptually against paying $2 - $3 dollars per donughnut. In my opinion, doughnuts should max out at $1.50 a piece. So, that is my largest fault with this hole in the wall. My other large issue is the lake of variety. Don't get me wrong here. What they do, they do well. Their doughnuts are lighter and more moist than most doughnuts, but I don't see that worth being worth the asking price. I got a lavander cake, nutella filled, and cinnamon cake, which I would recommend. Luckily, they accept credit cards, so you don't have to roam for an ATM first!

  • Lisa P.

I love a good doughnut and I haven't found a place that i get excited about since moving to Minneapolis, so I made a point to try Bogart's as soon as I had a chance. I went a couple Saturdays ago, at about 9am and was excited to see the line wasn't too long. I ended up ordering 8 doughnuts (a good variety, so my boyfriend and brother would be happy and we could cut them up and try a bunch of kinds). I liked the brown butter glazed doughnut best, followed by the raised glazed. I didn't care for either of the cake doughnuts I tried a bite of, the texture was not what i expected and they were a little dry. I was also surprised at the price - $2-$3 a doughnut adds ups up quickly. Overall, good doughnut shop, but I'm still looking for my go-to bakery.

  • Matthew K.

They're just okay. Nobody dislikes a good donut, but I can't figure out why people are going gaga over with Bogart's. The flavors are pretty good, but as donuts go I can't say that the brioche dough makes it any more special than any other donut. And while the vanilla butter cream and the nutella fillings have awesome flavor, the former was too runny and the latter was too gummy. Like I said, they're good donuts. But you know who else has good donuts? Cub. A Bogart donut costs $3, a Cub donut costs $.75. Just making an observation.

Welcome to the neighborhood! A small scale farmers market vendor turned brick and mortar, Bogarts is a sweet story of an entrepreneurial baker who has found success pumping us all with sugary delights. Bogarts carries a unique niche. If you rise with the bakers, you can see into the kitchen and watch the whole doughnut making process from their welcoming floor to ceiling glass windows. If you can't wake up at 3 AM, don't wait too long as the line will undoubtedly be out the door. The catch is once they're out, they're out. A sign in the window will kindly taunt you, a punishment for sleeping in a little too late that morning. The brown butter, vanilla butter cream and nutella noughnuts are absolutely winners. While the lavendar sounds like a great idea, honestly it's a bit questionable. The service is great and for how long they've been open, operations are quite smooth. It's just an A-OK because who doesn't love a warm doughnut? However, the options are limited and the overall quality is just satisfactory. Unfortunately nothing mind blowingly amazing and a little on the tough side. In my personal opinion, I want a doughnut I can effortlessly just sink my teeth into.

  • R B.

I stopped at Bogart's yesterday about 1030a to get a donut. All that was left was raised glazed. That had to be the worst doughnut ever. It was dry, tasteless and just not worth $2.00. I went to another place 10 minutes later to get a real doughnut for $.99. The staff is always friendly...but I don't know how this place stays in business.

Great neighborhood local doughnut company with some fluffy delicious doughnuts. There are just a few choices here and every single one is tasty. Of course we tried a few - what if we never get back here? Friendly behind the counter and helpful too. They don't need my vote for sure - the place was hopping busy on a Saturday morning.

  • Meredith S.

A lifelong donut lover, I fell in love with the idea of this place before stepped in the door. I ordered 12 donuts, 2 for each of my kids, my hubby and me. No one finished more than a couple bites of each. The taste is completely off. I don't know what they use to make them rise, but I don't think it's yeast as they don't have any of that doughy, yeasty goodness that makes a great donut, great. They seem heavy on baking soda and try to overcompensate with complex flavors like brown butter...but it's totally lost. Short story: these aren't good donuts. Anyone giving more than 1 star just hasn't had a really good bakery quality donut yet. Keep looking, they're out there. This just isn't the place.

DON"T BELIEVE THE HYPE! Like many of you, I saw the report on KARE11 news about Bogarts and became excited to try them. I decided today would be the day I experience the amazing doughnuts I have been hearing about. The store was clean, had a pleasant atmosphere and the staff were nice. I ordered a dozen assorted doughnuts so I could sample all of their offerings. I went to pay and immediately my opinion changed. $28! Twenty Eight bucks for 12 doughnuts. My expectations became "These better be the BEST doughnuts I have EVER tasted for $28 dollars." Sadly, these doughnuts are not even close to that level of good. They are way too spongy and chewy and the actual taste is easily forgettable. None of the rolls I tried were worth the money I paid. GLAM DOLL DOUGHNUTS has Bogart's beat by a mile and even SUPER MOM's doughnuts from Super America are much better (and cheaper). My prediction is once the hype dies down and if they don't make a better product, Bogart's will be a struggling bakery which may make it a year or two before closing it's doors.

What's the point of using brioche bread if the bread is dry? Seems like a lot of work for a dry result. The brown butter glaze was delicious, but the ratio was off. Too much bread [dry] and too little glaze. Same with the vanilla filled donut. The shop is nice. The Asian lady behind the counter was rude.

Why try and get donuts when they post a sign ALL OUT before noon an a weekend? What, they don't want to work that hard? Places like this will fade away (fad away ??) if they can't deliver a product, and if people can't get that they want. Bogart was closed before their posted hours. So why would we go back? We went up the street to Glam Doll. And they had plenty of excellent donuts for sale.

Celebrated doughnut day at my destination around 8:45. Parking not a problem considering the line. I bet they get a lot of walk in traffic. At 9 the cook said he was surprised they didn't run out yet. It's a nice area. Anne came out, apologizing, frazzled, and gave everyone waiting a rain check freebie for next visit, because they were running low. They had a couple of glazed available and a wait on the cake. I got a plain glazed. It was fluffy and chewy and I had no problem with the glaze seeping in and giving it sweetness with each bite. I kind of gobbled it down. I loved their special dough, and I'll be happy to take what comes while they fine tune their new business.

I think it was Yogi Barra who once said, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." Turns out, I freakin can't seem to live without a visit to this place at least once a week. Out of all the 'five star' reviews I've given, I'd put Bogart's up in the top three. If you've never read one of my reviews, welcome - they are usually never 100% positive, but I cannot find a reason to bump down Bogarts (except that they don't cater to my every meal). Yes, I wish too that they'd be able to make more doughnuts, but at the same time, look at Krispy Kream (too much, too soon). I trust that they know what they are doing, and I will time-and-time-again, wait in the rain for what I consider to be the BEST doughnuts I've ever put in my mouth. Please, let me know if you never need a taste tester - you can pay me in doughnuts. PS: Thank you for sticking to YOUR plan and not selling out and cheapening your brand name. If you make them, they will come.

Bogart Doughnut Co. is a great addition to the neighborhood, and a good place to stop on your way to work. They've streamlined their operation the week following their grand opening, and the line is no longer out the door. However, you should go early in the morning to avoid disappointment, as they only sell a set amount of doughnuts before closing for the day: the dough is handcrafted a day in advance and requires many hours of refrigeration. This morning I grabbed some brown butter glazed doughnuts, which made me a hero at work. The doughnuts themselves are so wonderfully rich, but not dense, and the butter glaze is delicately sweet and adds a great mouth feel. Oh! And they have seriously good coffee, which scores them super-extra bonus breakfast points.

YUM. I crave this place DAILY - amazing donuts and selection, though wish they would do weekly/monthly 'specials' as I have now tried all of them.

I finally got a brown butter donut. It was only meh. The glaze tasted good, but it had the same problem as the other glazed donut I tried, it isn't fused to the donut and flakes off too much. And the dough was a little tough. I must say since then I haven't been back to Bogart's. I just keep dreaming about the donuts at Bloedow's in Winona, MN, the best I've ever had...

Did my own doughnut crawl this Saturday AM. 9:10 AM, no line at Bogart's. Got a street spot and went in. Lovely space; spartan but easy to see the doughnuts, 3 people waiting to help me. Decided to get a dozen to go, and got 4 Nutella, 4 brown sugar glazed, 2 chocolate cake and 2 sprinkle. Came to $29 (gasp) but was happy to pay it since I live in the 'burbs where there are very few good options, and this wasn't going to be a weekly habit. Tried the brown sugar glazed first. The dough was a little drier and heavier than I expected, and it was more frosted than glazed, but the brown sugar was novel and tasty. It wasn't the best doughnut I ever ate, but it was good. Then I tried the Nutella filled doughnut. It was lighter (maybe it wasn't as "old" as the brown sugar or different dough?) and there was plenty of Nutella inside. The sugar outside was messy, but it was worth it. It was delicious, and I'd get it again. Unfortunately, the (very small) chocolate cake doughnut was awful. It may be an acquired taste -- lacking sweetness altogether. Maybe if I hadn't just eaten some of the Nutella doughnut it wouldn't have been as flat? I actually spit it out. The sprinkle donuts are okay. My conclusion: it was fun to try it, but I probably won't go out of my way to stop here. And if I do, I'll get just one $4 doughnut and not break the bank. The lesson I've learned is that a good instragram feed doesn't necessarily mean a good doughnut. Mel 'o glaze is still the reigning shop in So Mpls if you ask me, and if you're ever in Eagan, try Puffy Cream. I'm going to try the Baker's Wife next weekend as my personal doughnut crawl continues.

These really are great donuts. People rave about the Nutella-filled, but that didn't wow me like the brown butter and regular glazed. The chocolate cake is really good, too. Not too sweet. The lavender is a bit strange, but worth trying if you're feeling like something different.

This place unfortunately didn't measure up. My expectations were probably too high, but the donuts were expensive, bland, and dry. The lavender donut was almost an exception as it at least had flavor. It could just be a trait in brioche donuts I'm unaccustomed to but for Saturday morning indulgences I'll be going somewhere else.

So glad this is in south Minneapolis near me. A small variety but they nail it. And great coffee. This is a nice place to stop on the way to work or on a weekend. The butter cream and lavender are my go-tos. I appreciate their effort, I know they're a small shop with a small kitchen. They are great at their craft.

Delicious, cute, polite and fast! The brown butter glazed is something I tasted at an event years ago and have been thinking about it ever since. It holds up to be just as delicious as I remember! Go! ASAP!

UPDATE: AHH- HA! the early bird DOES get the donut! :) I woke up Saturday at 7:15am and it was gorgeous out so I jumped out of bed and headed to Bogarts! My boyfriend assured me that I was crazy-- he wanted no part in getting up so early on a Saturday morning. I walked to Bogart's got there at 7:30-7:45am and there was a line out the door (which I expected.) The line moved fairly quickly-- but not so quickly that I couldn't enjoy the sidewalk chalk art from other customers (they have a huge bowl of chalk for anyone to use-- super cute little touch!) I literally felt like I won the lottery when I got inside and saw all the donuts.. I thought to myself.. "this is it! I am going to get to try this hyped up goodness!!!!" I got 1 of everything: nutella, vanilla bean, maple glaze, and regular glaze-- so my sleepy bf & I could split everything. It took everything I had to not eat one bite until I got home. THE VERDICT: delish! I think i'm partial to the nutella and regular glaze! My boyfriend loved the nutella -- said he liked the vanilla too but if he were to pick it'd be the nutella. It was a bit spendy.. the donuts that are filled are $3, donuts with a hole are $2-- so it seems a little overpriced, but what isn't overpriced these days? The staff were all super cheery, sweet, and helpful. I'm still not a fan that I have to wake up so early to get in on this action-- but i'm sure any of those kinks will eventually be worked out. So happy for them and their overwhelming amount of success! :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- was so pumped to try this spot today.. waited in line for about 10-15 minutes around 9:45am the people in the front of the line said they were out of donuts? like.. out.. for the day.. on grand opening weekend!? yes. not sure that I fully grasp their "when we're out, we close" concept, but I'm sure there's a good reason. I guess the early bird does get the worm, or in this case the donut. :) I'll edit my review when we are able to actually try them. Super bummed for them that they had to turn away such a long line and all that $$.

Bogart Doughuts are delicious. We have tried all of the varieties they offer and some are better than others but all are worth a try. Glam Doll doughnuts are good but are too sugary for me. My teeth hurt after a sugar bomb from glam dolls. The doughnuts here are sweet but well balanced. My personal favorite is the Nutella filled. It is decadent and delicious and a nice treat to find the Nutella nestled in the middle. The brown butter glazed are my 2nd favorite. The lavender and the chocolate doughnuts are good but left something to be desired.

This is the In and Out Burger of donut places: simple straightforward menu with a mere handful of options. No fancily dressed donuts or unusual ingredients or gluten free alternatives. Just the basics. And why complicate things when dealing with deep fried dough? It's already so good. Unfortunately, the selections I had (lavender glazed and raised glazed) were merely average. The dough was a tad spongy, the shell undercrisped, and the proportion of glazing to pastry a little on the low side in my opinion. I'd probably give the donut nod to the overly prettified Glam Doll, though Grandmas in St Paul still takes the cake ;)

I've been anticipating the opening of Bogart's for months now and was really excited to see them finally open as I have something of a problem with doughnut consumption and it would be right in the 'hood. I'd stopped by a couple times later in the morning the first week only to encounter the dreaded "Sold Out" sign. I tried to swing by on National Doughnut day at 6:50am, but unfortunately didn't plan enough time into my commute to wait through the 25+ person line. Not to be deterred, I rolled out of bed early Sunday morning (pre-7am) and swung by only to learn they open an hour later on weekends (my bad). At any rate, returned an hour later, navigated the lengthy line and finely emerged w/ 4 prized doughnut gems--nutella, vanilla, browned butter glazed and regular glazed. The owners/staff were exceedingly nice and apologized for the long line. They said that demand had far exceeded their business plan and that they are making plans to quickly expand capacity. All good things--I'm sure they will work out the kinks and I wish them every success. My reason for giving less than 4 or 5 stars is simply personal taste. I didn't care for the brioche dough. Neither the texture (seemed almost like coffee cake--more bite than a regular doughnut) nor the taste (seemed to have a slight sourdough tang) appealed to me. I know lots of people who rave about brioche and nutella tastes pretty great no matter what you eat it on, but I wouldn't put Bogart's in my top 3 doughnut places at this time. I plan to check back in a month or two to see whether their line-up has expanded.

Not a fan of the brioche dough used for these donuts, seemed to make them a bit on the dry side. However, I was a fan of the browned butter glaze on the raised donut. Was really hoping for a plain cake donut, sadly they only had a lavender option or chocolate option. Very pricey- $26 for dozen donuts. Really? Managed to not have to wait in line, got there around 7:30am on a Thursday. Not worth the hype, IMO.

Good quality, not sweet...moderate sweetness - tasty. Spendy and limited selection. You get what you get. A few uniques but then...that's all. Different days, different features. Then there's price: 2 doz = $52.00 No kidding re. price. Street parking, no sitting area.

We we're so excited to have a donut place in our neighborhood, but left incredibly disappointed. I've never actually thrown away a bag of donuts, but that is how bad they tasted.

I live in the neighborhood so it's nice to have a our own donut shop. Unfortunately I can't stand the texture of these donuts. They are chewy and slightly dry, don't get the buzz about these at all. So, donuts are about 2 stars, but i'm giving a 3 for location.

Doesn't even matter what the donuts taste like. The absolute rudest human being hovering over the counter offending you from the minute you walk in just isn't worth it.

I'm a fan. The nutella and vanilla buttercream are by far the best. They have the perfect ratio of filling to brioche: not too little that you feel like you're mostly eating the dough, but not too much that it's spilling out everywhere. I wasn't a big fan of all the sugar they sprinkle on the outside though, so I ended up scraping a lot of it off. But if I had to, I would choose these two over the filled doughnuts from Glamdoll (though those are still good as well). The vanilla sprinkle is good. Not terribly memorable, but just a moist, sweet doughnut to kick off my day. Neither the chocolate nor the lavender have an overpowering flavor, but dark chocolate and lavender are not strong ingredients to begin with. They aren't bad, but definitely on the milder side. These two are nice if you want a doughnut that's not so sweet that you feel like you're basically eating a cupcake disguised as a doughnut.

Bitter. Dry. No flavor. Well I guess bitter is a flavor, so there's that. Does anyone taste these before they leave the kitchen? Maybe hire a dog to see if it will choke them down. Check that; a dog will choke down anything so..eureka!..I've found the best use of these donuts: DOGFOOD. On the plus side $2 is a pretty good price to stand over a trash can spitting and gagging. I've spent way more than that for the same experience.

This place isn't really run with any business acumen. They serve donuts for about an hour in the morning and seem content to have no product to sell after 8 am. If you want some great donuts try Glam Doll Donuts, Angel Food Bakery, and A Baker's Wife. They'll have them in stock through the day. Don't waste your time going to Bogarts to see their sold out sign. Maybe Bogarts is fine with selling the few donuts they have and calling it a day. It's just not for me and definitely not worth the trouble. This place is essentially non-existent in my world of donuts. Consider it an empty store front.

Dig this modern spin on classic donuts! Definitely more on the simple side of things rather than exotic (like Glam Doll). But really great texture and taste. I don't like donuts that are super sweet, and these are right up my alley. Went there on a weekend morning and the lines (described by other people) weren't bad. My only complaint is, I'm still hoping they put out a raised chocolate donut.

This review will be short and sweet, like the menu at this doughnut shop. The long lines don't lie; the brioche doughnuts are decadent, yet fluffy, which helps create the illusion that you are not stuffing your face with a circle of fried dough. Come early, but once the hiccups of the opening weeks are ironed out I imagine the wait times and early sell outs will improve. At least I hope so, because waiting outside for fifteen minutes in January is less appealing.

I biked by this place at 2am and saw a light on w/ some dude inside working. I'd never heard any of the hype about their opening, so I was surprised to see a donut shop I'd never heard of in the neighborhood adjacent to mine. Now my friends all know me as a donut junkie. I was there for opening day of Seattle's now national (if being in Seattle and Texas is 'national') Top Pot Doughnuts, stood in line forever during the Krispy Kreme hype days, drive to Grand Marais at even the slightest opportunity for the World's Best Donuts (they arguably are), and regularly frequent the nearby, down home shop, A Baker's Wife - which gives GM's WBDs a run for their money). After biking by last night, I formed a plan to swing by on my way to work this morning and slept soundly, comforted by dreams of new and delicious wonderment. I made longer term plans to run out and grab some on a weekend morning - bringing them home to surprise my wife and 1yr old - making them love me more and wonder 'just HOW does he FIND these places??' Yea - like other reviewers - I'd built up my expectations a bit. When I went in - just before 10am on a Sunday (I know - too late for the cream of the crop, but at 10am any remaining self respecting donut should still be in its prime) - no line (nice!) and only two types of donuts left - Chocolate and Lavender. Both cake donuts. Both squarely in my donut wheelhouse. I grab a 1/2 dozen (for $12?! They MUST be good!) and head to work. I can't wait until I get to work so I reach blindly into the classic waxed paper bag emblazoned with their straightforward and also classically fonted logo (think of what a donut bag would look like in Mad Men... that's the bag) and pulled out a donut. It was a Lavender. I'm nearly shaking with anticipation as my outstretched arm contracts, bringing this circle of promise closer to my gaping maw... Gross. I wasn't shaking. I was just stoked to get a bite of donut. I bite down.. then continue to bite down. And keep biting... The biting seems endless. My jaw is fatiguing. Seeing stars. Now, as my friend said, we both like a good toothiness to a donut. Not afraid to work for it. But this... this made me furrow my brow with it's rubberiness. I'm committed though, so I fought through it, completed my bite and fired up the tasters. Here's what I said out loud: 'Meh.' Beyond the rubbery texture (which - upon reading reviews on here - appears to be due to the fact that they use Brioche dough - which sounds delish and PROBABLY works better with their filled donuts which sound amazing - but who wants to hunt out an explanation for why a beloved indulgence has an offputting mouth feel??) Anyway - beyond the rubbery texture was a subtly lavender, subtly sweet, subtly fried taste that wasn't altogether unpleasant... it's STILL a donut after all... but it wasn't something that made me stick my head out the window and tell any passerby to get their a$$ to Bogarts before they're sold out (which I actually did after taking my first bite of A Baker's Wife cake donut). It was just... boring. And chewy. The chocolate one was a little more chocolatey than expected, which wasn't a good thing at first, but in the end it was just fine too. Same chewy rubberiness. I would like to try their filled donuts - but let's be honest - I'll probably never be up that early and that far away from home (a full 2 miles) in time for that to happen... Plus - the promise has faded enough that I have little to no motivation to MAKE it happen. Next! (Why two stars instead of one? Well - it wasn't a grotesque experience. Plus, I'm saving 1 or 0 stars for some place that really deserves it on all fronts) Update: my wife took a bite of one 12 hr after they were purchased and said 'are these vegan??' I bit off enough to confirm she was having the same textural experience that I did. She was. 12. Hours. Later.

There is no length I would not go for a good doughnut. I have walked miles for them, waited in the rain for them, woken up at ungodly hours for them, paid obscene amounts of money for them, used them as a dessert table at my wedding and (of course) eaten them with no pants on. Now, with that all being said - I was BEYOND ecstatic when I heard that not only was there a doughnut place opening in my neighborhood, but that it was REALLY good. Bob and I arrived on at Bogarts around 6:15am on National Doughnut Day (we did not know it was National Doughnut Day, nor did I know that this was a thing - I will make sure to celebrate this glorious day with gusto moving forward). There was a small line outside already, but we were probably fifth or sixth in line. It was really cool how you could watch the doughnut chefs hard at work HAND MAKING each doughnut through their huge window. And I do appreciate that at about 6:45am, they did open early since the line had grown to be exponentially bigger. They had about 6 different kinds of doughnuts available, and we decided to get one of each: lavender and chocolate cake doughnuts and brown butter-glazed, plain glazed, Nutella-filled and vanilla bean buttercream-filled yeasted doughnuts. We did have a bit of sticker shock as our 6 doughnuts cost about $20... that's a pretty steep price for breakfast carbs. Bob and I hurried our prize home and sat down to enjoy. Now, I will give the lavender a pass as I personally do not enjoy floral flavors - but a lot other people do. The consistency of the cake doughnut was perfect however. The chocolate cake doughnut was far and away the best one that I have ever had (and I get those every time I try a new doughnut place as a barometer for the place). It had a really nice cocoa taste and the right amount of crunch. Now, the yeasted doughnuts were okay... I could not tell the difference between the brown butter and the plain glazed. They were fine... nothing exceptional. The Nutella filled one (the one that people go bonkers for) was also good... but not amazing. I love Nutella, but I don't think it can elevate a meh doughnut into something spectacular. Now, the vanilla buttercream one was REALLY good. I loved the filling, and would be happy eating it for breakfast every day, but the doughnut again was just fine... So, overall, I was a bit disappointed. With all that being said, I do think everyone should go and give it a try. But, I just don't think it is the doughnut nirvana Minneapolis was hoping for (or at least, I was hoping for).

This is my personal favorite when it comes to donuts in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. Their brioche dough is great and lighter than your traditional donut. Try the Nutella donut... there are no words for how delicious it is. Always craving one on a Sunday morning!

I am still conflicted over whether I should say donut or doughnut, but either way I think you will get my drift. One word....NUTELLA! I am a lover of Nutella and really all things chocolate. However, their Nutella donut is divine! My second favorite is the chocolate cake with vanilla bean glaze. Close your eyes. Imagine. Cue mouth watering. For a good selection, make sure you go early! My work has donut Thursday so I am happy that they open at 6:30 AM, so I can swing in and grab donuts on my way to work. They are definitely a crowd pleaser. Happy donut eating!

The donuts were not cooked thoroughly. They tasted too yeasty....but mostly....they had uncooked dough in the center! You would think that since they only make donuts, that an error like this would never happen! It was in the whole batch that I bought (a dozen). I'm not going back. They were also pricey for a simple donut shop. I can't remember if they even had fancies (I don't recall), but prices like that are meant for fancies, not regular donuts.

I love being able to go somewhere and order one of everything. Which is exactly what I did at Bogart's. To keep it short and sweet, their raised doughnuts are perfectly chewy and their cake donuts are perfectly moist. You can't really go wrong, but I'd skip the Nutella-filled in the future. The problem is that these babies cost twice as much (or more) than a doughnut you could get almost anywhere else, and while they are good doughnuts, they aren't necessarily 2+ times as good as any other.

This place is the cutest ever! I had heard great things so I thought I would check it out myself. I love the simplicity of the place. You walk in and have about 8 different options and the prices are based on if it has a hole, doesn't have a hole, or is a hole :P The staff were very friendly and there was barely a wait. I ordered a pink frosted sprinkled doughnut for $2 and it was very tasty and I could tell it was better quality than the cake doughnuts you can buy from the grocery store. I would love to go back for the vanilla bean filled doughnut, too! Overall, this place was so easy and welcoming, and the design is so adorable! Loved the friendly neighborhood vibe of it all.

We tried the vanilla creme filled donut and the raised glaze. Both donuts were very dense - as opposed to being light and fluffy. I'd recommend skipping this one - there are much better options in the twin cities.

After hearing horror stores of the lines, we were expecting the worst, but at 8:30am on a Sunday, the line was only about 10 people deep and moved fast! The staff is incredibly friendly and apologized for the wait. There were plenty of donuts to choose from and more came out as we waited. The chocolate cake donuts are more chocolately than we expected, in a good way; the lavender cake were lightly flavored and kind of refreshing. The consistency is cakey with a spongy quality, which is quite appealing. My favorite was the Nutella filled donut- is there anything better than a raised donut covered in sugar and filled with Nutella? The answer is no, and you should probably go try one for yourself if you are as obsessed with this chocolately hazelnut spread as I am. Glad to have a locally-owned, neighborhood spot like this in the area!

I went this morning for the grand opening and they had a nice line around 6:30am. It went fast and the crowd was very pleasant. As I do with most new bakeries I got one of everything (vanilla bean, Nutella, lavender, brown glazed and regular glazed). The vanilla bean and Nutella were by far my favorite. The vanilla bran custard was amazing! The glazed donuts were good, but I'd have to imagine they would be five times better hot out of the fryer. This is definitely a grab and go joint, with little room to sit after you order. The inside is bright, modern and fresh with just the right number of accents to give it that level of character required at all great shops. This place would really win me over if they added a few tables outside. I would definitely go back for a second trip and encourage people I like to check it out; I'll send people I don't like somewhere else to keep the line down.

Nestled into a tiny space once occupied by an organic plant nursery stands a one-of-a-kind doughnut shop. I came at precisely 6:30am today to find a line of perhaps 20 people waiting on opening day for their first look at a brioche dough doughnut. While, in my opinion, it's not a doughsant (or cronut for you NYCers out there), the feel and taste of the brioche dough is certainly different than your usual doughnut fare. I got a brown butter glazed and regular raised glazed for myself, and a Nutella-filled for my wife. The brown butter is brioche, and I found it to be less sweet and a little more rich than a normal cake or raised doughnut. The feel of is was also a little different, as it had a just a bit more resistance than a cake or raised doughnut and had fine layers of dough with cushions of air as its texture. It wasn't my cup of tea, really, but I could see the appeal if you don't like your doughnuts sweet. The regular raised was excellent. Just a plain old good doughnut. My wife devoured her Nutella flavored in about 45 seconds. She liked it quite a bit.

Decent donuts but nothing to write home about. They only have approx 6 different types and Nothing too extraordinaire. Not necessarily cheap either. I do not plan to return because there are better places in the twin cities for donuts.

Oh wow! I am glad I never gave up their donuts!!! They probably need some time to figure out the best donut batter for everyone's taste and they have nailed it(at least for me) :) I love their Orange zest and donut holes!! Actually everything

These really are great donuts. People rave about the Nutella-filled, but that didn't wow me like the brown butter and regular glazed. The chocolate cake is really good, too. Not too sweet. The lavender is a bit strange, but worth trying if you're feeling like something different.

She was. 12. Hours. Later.

Delicious, cute, polite and fast! The brown butter glazed is something I tasted at an event years ago and have been thinking about it ever since. It holds up to be just as delicious as I remember! Go! ASAP!

  • mathias m.

  • Will V.
