I have gone to this resturant for at least 25 years now. Was one of my Grandma's favorite resturants and we would go weekly when I picked her up as I got older. My family enjoys the food and it has a very "down home" feel. The kids always find something they like and I love the bacon cheese burger with their very good BBQ sauce and fries. Great malts/shakes and the french silk pie is VERY good. Make sure to check them out.

50's grill what is more I can say when I want for a comfort food. Somehow going there give me a good feeling and surprisingly when I see their menu prices actually not cheap either but I am very satisfy so when I see my bill it is worth of money. We went there earlier, I have been hungry for a burger. And ended up try their chicken pot pie. Yum...thick sauce, full chunk of chicken cubes, thin flaky crust and the first spoon felt like back in the old time when grandma's still cooking. My husband got swiss mushroom burger and fries, which I think decent. For drinking I tried arnold palmer, it wasn't cocktail or something fancy it was a lemonade mixed with iced tea..genius, 2 of my fav drinks :) right amount of tart, sweet and thickness. We actually planned to order their malt but we already full perhaps next time, I love their malt though...speaking about their decor, it was ok, unique but we went there for the food not the decor. Next time I am gonna try their beef pot pie and irish cottage pie.

I'm not sure what the hype is over this place, is it the poodle skirts? My Fiancee loves their malts as they make their chocalate malts with chocalate ice cream, not vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, so 1-2 times a year I get stuck going here. I've had their ribs, terrible, their burgers (made me sick), and I havent found anything that good. I think their fries are the frozen variety. I do like their pie and their shakes, are pretty good....but bland food and has even made me ill once, just.....although it's near Brookdale which now just consist's of Sears so a good way to spend the day :)

This was a fun place. I had the Swiss and mushroom 6 oz with fries and a banana hot fudge malt. The fries were crisp, the burger was good and the malt was AWESOME! My only complaint was I didn't have room for a piece of pie (I even took home half of my burger for my dog and she loved it). My husband order a bacon and cheese burger with onion rings he said his burger was a bit dry and the onion rings were no the good. All in all it was average nothing to go out of your way for but worth stopping for lunch if your over in Brooklyn Park. Because if it a fun place and the prices are pretty good.

I've been to this place once before when my cousin took me and just remembered the great fries with ranch dressing and awesome malts. The second time around I still have the same reactions. Fun 50s atmosphere with good-ole American food, I couldn't ask for more when I'm in the mood for comfort. The last time I went here, I had the chocolate-banana malt which was soooo good. This time they were out of bananas so I tried the chocolate-strawberry malt which was still very good. I decided to go with the smaller cheeseburger option since I was going to have fries and a malt, but didn't realize until I was served that it didn't come with any of the usual works like lettuce, tomato or onion. Pickles where the only addition to the actual cheeseburger bread and meat itself. But, I wasn't as full as my compadre so I guess I really did get what I wanted:)

The 50's Grill is great! I use to go here a lot when I was growing up and always go there when I get a chance to come visit home. Their malts no one can beat. My favorite is the good ole stand by chocolate. I'm not sure what they do to their malts to make them as fabulous as they do, but I love them! The caramel one is pretty good too! As far as food goes I'm always a sucker and order their huge 3 cheese, cheese burger.....it is so good! Their soups are all delicious. I have never tasted a bad soup there! The chocolate cake is also really good too....if you are looking for a good Christmas gift to get they package and sell their homemade soups in gift packs and it is a great gift for those hard to buy for. We use to always do this for a friend of our family and she loved it! The chicken wild rice is my favorite there!

We went to the 50's Grill last week and met a friend. I had not been there in many years. I'm not sure that there have been any changes to the menu. I love burgers, so had the bacon cheeseburger. The bun was VERY toasted (which I hate!) and the burger itself was a preformed patty (which I also hate - I could do that at home!). The other two people in the party had meatloaf and pork and found them to be dry. We ordered malts. One of the malts came as nothing but ice cream in the cup. Our friend had to send it back and ask them to put milk in it and mix it up. They just were nothing malts. I feel the quality is not at all what it used to be!

This is one of the last retro restaurant places in the northwest burbs. They keep things simple and fabulous. Burgers, fries, onion rings, meatloaf, open face sandwiches, malts & shakes. All yummy and totally wallet friendly.

I'm a malt fiend and this is the place! Real, old-fashioned malts, American comfort food, bread baked right there every day in their bakery, great ambiance, what's not to like? I'm giving it 5 stars not because it's La Belle Vie, but because it's your best deal in mid-market-type dining. If you want to go someplace special for not big bucks, this is the place, cause it's not just a diner, it's a restaurant. We like to go on Sunday night for a treat before the week starts. I've also ordered lunch for the office on occasion, they have takout on almost everything (they finally have a web site and now you can see the menu at www.50sgrill dot com/menu dot html). Check it out!

Hot spot for seniors! It's my 80 yr old sister's favorite place. The hot beef or turkey sandwiches are fantastic! Real mashed potatoes and real turkey or beef. Malts are fantastic also. Have yet to have anything there that was not good. Service is always great from the poodle skirted ladies.

Been coming here for 22 years. Their baked goods esp.the bread is very good. Food is consistent. You'd think after all this time tho that they would figure out how to not run out of chicken on bbq nite! Prices have gone up while portion sizes have diminished some. Still the best place for a chocolate phosphate and their house creamy garlic salad dressing can't be beat.

From the moment we stepped inside I felt eagerly anticipatory! The menu really touts their 'home made' dishes and you know what ? Deservedly so! The cottage pie? Perfection! Their chocolate fudge cake? HOME MADE and scrumptious! I cannot wait to return to try the rest!

The cost compared to the quaility is underwhelming. I noticed a very expensive corvette parked all alone kiddy corner to the resturant and usually go with my gut instinct and drive away, because i've learned when you see 60k+ vehicles at small resturants it's usually the owners and that's where your $$ is going, but I wanted to give the place a chance (also there are very few sit down resturants in that area of Brooklyn Center that offer beer). The place was busy, but we waited over 10 minutes to get our water/order taken. At that time the waitress plainly stated "ready to order". I noticed all the wait staff seemed to be down and out, no smiles, it was very obvious that they were going through the motions. I ordered the 50's grill burger with the dinner salad, and my girlfriend ordered the walleye dinner with dinner salad. We both ordered one Summit beer each (bottle beer only, no draft). The salads were truly pathetic. Half dead iceberg lettuce out of a bag with two tomatos and soggy red onion. The walleye dinner came with slighly under cooked white bread. The walleye dinner ($14) had mutiple sizeable bones. I'm positive in came in a box, frozen, pre-breaded, and "prepared" by deep frying. The "grill burger" ($9) was made with a "home made bun" that couldn't bear the load of the patty, totmato, lettuce, and red onion. It grew soggy and pieced apart. The total dinner (walleye, burger, 2 summits) came to $40 with tip. We were in the resturant for 45 minutes and when we came out the Corvette with the license plate "gocrazy" was still parked in that kiddy corner spot, look for when if you go, you can see where the unnecessary upcharge went. I left feeling (and I really hate to say this) that I had gone to the Applebees down the street.

Drool - worthy burgers and malts! Great service, moderate prices. Only complaint would be lack of coupons, but they don't need them because of high quality food

Nice staff but food seemed like it was all out of a can or the freezer, I would hardly call that cooking as they claim.

We came here during a visit to Minneapolis. Grandparents used to come here when visiting friends. The MALTS were delicious!! Food and service was standard, but left satisfied. Love the atmosphere of the place. Lots of old photos and memorabilia. Will definitely come back. Need to try some pies next time!

After we married (in 2000) my husband insisted we go here to eat. He'd eaten there a number of times previously. He'd loved it, I'd never heard of it. Our meal was so-so, but my husband also ordered a chocolate malt which was the most horrible foamy tasteless thing, ever! He wouldn't finish it (complained about it) - so I took it to go and finish. Then I tasted it!!! Horrible we've never been back.

My husband and I met a friend here for lunch after church. It had been a while since I'd been here. My husband thinks that anywhere near Brookdale is totally the hood. Anyway the interior section we sat in seemed to be nicely remodeled. As always they have a huge selection for malt/shake flavors, and my hubbie and I split a Coffee Mocha one that was totally thick and yummy! The charming waitress's wear poodle skirts and peter-pan collared shirts. I love it! The food is as good as I remember it. The bread is freshly baked daily. Including the buns for sandwiches and burgers. My husband said his Bison burger was great. I had a Sante Fe Chicken sandwich that had this fantastic Guacamole on it that had a really good flavor. They don't give large portions of fries, but the price is right! Plus the Chicken-Pot Pie there is Excellent! And they have lots of other excellent desserts. The problem is I'm usually stuffed by the time dessert comes around. Its kind of fun going back in time a little!

Great place for home cooking and malts. I love that 50s grill still bakes their bread fresh daily. Their burgers and entrees embrace the concept of a hearty American meal. Their desert options are incredible-- great cookies, cakes and pies. But above all, the malt stay true to old school the old school malt-shop mentality-- vast selection of flavors, thick and creamy, tin included!

  • C T.

Awesome. Great burgers, amazing shake and malts. The wait staff are sooooo cool! We go there a lot. They have their own bakery and the desserts are incredible. I'd go there a lot more often if it wasn't for the forty five minute drive that it takes me to get there!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 50's Grill! Great burgers on homemade buns, love the fries, and the shakes and malts are the best around! My favorite is the chocolate caramel shake and my husband loves the blueberry shake. Don't miss out on this gem!

Reviewing the 50s Grill is a tough one for me. I live within a short walk from the place, and I do frequent the place. However, I frequent it only for one section of the menu - dessert items. I've ate food here a number of times, ranging from the bison burger to chicken strips to a walleye dinner. It is all extremely blah food, and worse yet, the portions aren't anything remotely close to what you pay for. The bison burger, usually a slab of meat you really can't screw up because bison has a natural, incredible flavor - comes out like a frozen patty that had "bison" written on it and that's it. No to mention it costs something like $12, has no cheese, and is literally a burger-bun and that's it. The fish dinner is a good joke from the restaurant. I'll give them that, they fooled me once. I'm fairly sure they went right across a few parking lots and one street to Cub and got me a frozen fish patty. The batter, fish and even tarter sauce were all so tasteless I could barely stand not laughing at myself for dropping $13 on the "meal." But, low and behold we come to the only thing I do return there now for - the dessert items. A long, and awesome list of malts, ice creams, pastries and cones. I've never had a bad malt or shake here. If you want to treat yourself to something amazing, get the cookies and cream waffle cone. You'll really love life for the few minutes it takes to eat it. Pastry wise, just amazing stuff. The cheesecakes are great, during the fall time their apple pies are killer and because it's summer - strawberry rhubarb time! All in all, the service is never a question here, and I know some of the servers well. The dinner/lunch food is completely forgettable and you'd do yourself a favor just going to Taco Bell or AppleBees instead. But, the desserts will keep you coming back.

My rating that I am giving this place is dropping from 4 stars to 1 star. 15 minutes of waiting for someone to even acknowledge that we were ready for our glasses of water. We left and handed the menu back. Went to Applebee's instead and were seated for 5 seconds and the water arrived. The food was good when I last ate here but don't feel like waiting for an hour to eat. I also remember waiting 15 minutes or so for the bill the previous time. Booth 23 was Right in an isle where we were seated. (Crickets)(crickets) Maybe they were playing hide and go seek.

ugh. I tried this place on multiple occasions. I wish I would've listend to my coworkers. The most bland tasting sandwich I've ever had. The server never came back to to check on us after we waited over 20 minutes for our order to be taken! This was at 2pm on a monday! I hear that there pies are good although I'll never know, as I won't be going back.

In High School there was a rare Friday evening in the fall when I was not here drinking delicious shakes after a football game. The atmosphere made the evening fun, and the closing time made our parents happy. Now that I am older, this has become a staple restaurant to meet up with old friends and to enjoy the comforts of 50's comfort food. What I love: Burgers that understand that a REAL burger comes with lettuce and tomato Endless options of shake flavors Homemade Pie Meatloaf is a staple on the menu Wait staff dress the part of working in a 50's Diner They support community functions What's harder to love: The only salad lettuce they have seems to be iceberg The booths are really hard, not expected sitting in a highback booth The ranch dressing...not sure why but something seems off

This spot has the best homemade food. I'm a whole food nut and they can tell me, and I can pronounce, the ingredients of everything I select. My kids love the burgers and malts. The split pea soup is the best in the universe. Yup, the universe. Service is quick and friendly. I'm getting off my phone now since I feel like I'm having dinner at home--and phone's aren't allowed at my family's dinner table. :-). The phone thing is NOT a 50's Grill rule, so no one freak out.

Extremely disappointed by this restaurant. When I ordered a bacon cheese burger, the waitress dropped off my order and it was a regular burger. When I told her my order was wrong, instead of taking my plate she brought me a plate of cold bacon... When I went to pay, I noticed they charged me for a regular cheese burger and a 1.50 extra for bacon so my order was more money than a regular bacon cheese burger. The food was mediocre and the service was terrible. Definitely not going back.

I was very excited about the advertised famous chicken pot pie. At the price I expected better. Although not bad but, by far not the best I have had. It was served in a standard bowl with a very thin crust (only on the top). A creamy base that was lacking in seasoning and overall flavor. With that said the addition of the pearl onions was a very nice touch. Service was amazing but for the entree you would be better off at that price picking one up from Costco... now theirs is AMAZING!

Great atmosphere. All desserts are made from scratch. Delicious malts/shakes. Love the old feel. Not huge portions of food but still good.

In reading some of the other reviews, I'm completely surprised to see people complain about the food here. My husband and I live pretty close to 50's Grill and we order take-out from there on an embarrassingly regular basis. We pretty much stick with the same items...my hubby has the cheeseburger and fries and I have the walleye dinner and we both end our meal with hot fudge malts. However, we have also had the bison burger, the turkey sandwich and chicken sandwiches. We have NEVER had a problem with the food...in fact, its fantastic! The bread is homemade, the fries are delcious, the walleye is crisp and never greasy and the malts are well....just ridiculously good. I don't know if they use homemade ice cream, but it sure tastes like it. On occasion, our order has been mixed up...but in all fairness, I am one of those "When Harry Met Sally" people with the substiutions and specific requests, so I think its inevitable that sometimes mistakes happen. We have only ever called about it once and the manager was super apologetic and even sent us a free certificate for a burger and fries. We weren't looking for anything free and tried to decline the certificate, but he insisted. We've ordered their food when we've had friends over (including kids) and everyone raves about how tasty everything is. They must be doing something right considering how much money we spend at that place!! The only way they could improve anything is if they would add old-fashioned Graham Cracker Cream Pie to their menu!! :)

Whoa.... We need to drop the stars on this place yelpers!! After eating the bacon cheese burger, i realized that there is a good chance I could have made the same meal with the microwave in my hotel! The problem is that this particular area of Minneapolis is BARREN LAND for food.

I've been going to 50's Grill for over 20 years and I still am in love with that place. I've always loved their malts, onion rings, and fries. My new favorite thing is their veggie burger, hands down the best in the city! It's served on a huge delicious homemade bun with all the fixins, yum!

I have been going to 50's Grill since I was a baby. When I was little, I dreamed of growing up and working there just so I could wear the poodle skirts and saddle shoes. In fact, I talked about doing that so much that my grandma finally made me a poodle skirt when I was 6...I wore that thing for 3 Halloweens in a row... Everything about this place just rocks...or would jive be more appropriate? Everything from the decoration to the music just envelopes you. I especially love the high-backed booths, they make you feel like you have your own little room at the restaurant. Now for the food: Love it. Honestly, I have never had something that I didn't like - in all my 26 years of visiting here. That says 2 things to me: 1) this place is legit (perhaps too legit to quit...) 2) I go here waaaaayyyyy too often. (That's just too damn bad. I'm going to continue to venture here frequently. So there.) Their burgers are really good, and the soup is great too. I usually order the Turkey Guacamole Sandwich, but you have to get it on their AWESOME french bread, and with a side of ranch. It is just stupid how delicious it is. My roommate always gets their Cajun Chicken sandwich, which she swears has some type of highly addictive drug mixed in the seasoning....I think she just doesn't want to take responsibility for her cravings. Also, if you walk out of here without trying a malt or a slice of their pie, you deserve to be slapped. I'm not kidding, I will find you...just save me the trouble and order some damn pie. It is delicious. All of my opinions are just extra reasons to go there. Really all the proof you need is that all the Grandmas in a 400 mile radius flock here....so many Grandmas cannot be wrong. :)

If you're under the age of 12 and you've lived in Brooklyn Park or Brooklyn Center your whole life, 50's Grill is a big deal. The waitresses wear poodle skirts, there's creepy oldies music playing all the time, and you know you'll be put in front of a firing squad if you don't get a milkshake. One of my elementary school teachers had our class competing for a free meal together at 50's Grill. Somehow, I won the contest without trying and was dragged to this establishment. This was in the mid 90's, I believe. I remember not liking the food, it looked and tasted stale (still does), but the milkshake was FINE. So, present day. I've gone a few times, usually for a weird hometown gathering where nobody wants to go somewhere GOOD; they want somewhere EASY. FINE. The last time was pretty bad. Our waitress seemed fresh out of training. Our drinks took a long time. All the other tables were empty. My food was room temperature and the fries were just...you know what? If the fries were amazing, I would say so, but if amazing fries were enough to overcome this depressingly nostalgic, cold-food-serving place, then Michael Jackson would still be alive and not moonwalking in heaven with Elizabeth Taylor. That being said, you could do much worse in this part of town. I think it's a locally owned business, which is nice. Edit: I was just thinking about this place yesterday and remembered that I worked here as a teenager. SO FUNNY. I'd totally forgotten. I remember being disgusted by the sexist hiring (i.e. only women were servers, only men were cooks). Nobody said that's how they did it, but I'm no fool. I remember taking a test during training where we had to know what was the most important thing they served. I said "homemade potatoes" because there's a neon sign advertising them. Real answer: Service. HOW DO YOU SERVE SERVICE? Too meta for minimum wage.

50's grill is an amazing place. They serve real authentic American favorites, Kinda like a burger and Malt joint, but they also have a really really delicious bakery selection. Those pastry chefs there are somethin else, I'll tell ya that. Everything here is home-made and down to earth good damn food. Ive tried many different entrees here, but their Bison burgers are absolutely to die for. Even the spices they use are freshly made and blended together. ( I personally know a baker there, and they hook it up with pastries and spices and burgers and such. The pecan pie... To die for! The key lime pie... To die for! The freshly made cheesecake... TO DIE FOR. It is an amazing restaurant and the service and staff kick ass. all around. Great food and even better prices, The 50's Grill just cant be beat for an authentic American meal, anywhere in The Brooklyn Center area. Absolutely amazing

First time visit-yuk!!!! The beef barley soup was cold, not thoroughly heated. After we told our waitress, "reheated" in the kitchen still not piping hot the way a soup should be. We ordered the popular turkey dinner-same experience , the corn was cold & tasteless. The turkey-NOT real turkey, bland ,tasteless. If a customer leaves more than 50% of a meal on their plate, especially after having cold soup; a waitress should be more attentive and ask why ... this was at 2:30pm in the afternoon. $30 for 2 people ! Better food at Perkins. The manager deducted our beverages- big deal. Dirty floors & bathrooms. Don't believe the hype , don't waste your money. NOT returning either.

For the type of food it is its great. If your every in the mood for a great burger, fries, and malt go here. The atmosphere is great and the food is good to. I love a good malt and they have a ton of amazing flavors. Highly recommend this place

You pay a premium for feeling like you turned the clock back to the 1950s. The booths and bathrooms look like they were built in the 1950s. The staff is refreshingly friendly and helpful. Ticket time for our meal was reasonable, the portion size on their signature dish (Shepherd's Pie) left me wanting more, but the dab of it that I did get for around $10 was delicious. It's a fun novelty place to take friends from out of town, but have time to take it in and wait for your food, it's not a 30 minutes or less endeavor. Also not an every weekend place to eat, a little of this place goes a long way.

50's Grill is neato! I'm so glad a restaurant like this exists within driving distance! I'm not a grey hair (yet) but I am a classic film geek, so I love the vintage posters and retro prints, along with the 50's malt shop ambiance, the chrome, poodle skirts and general nice attitude. And the food, of course, I love the food. I've been there many times since a friend who lived in the area introduced my to it around 9 or 10 years ago. It's my go-to place if I can't decide where to eat but I want to know for sure it's going to be good. There has been consistently swift service, excellent, well made and filling food 99% of the time. The one time I was dissatisfied was when they offered a rib special and the ribs were so dry it was like eating jerky, as if they'd been cooking all day long and then put under heat lamps. I don't usually complain unless it's something inedible but I could have made shoes out of this leathery mess. We let our (very good) server know and she apologized profusely, offered to get us a different meal and gave us each a free dessert. We spoke with the manager (younger, dark hair)afterwards and he almost defended the ribs saying they hadn't been cooking for too long and didn't realize they were tough but he apologized as well and we took our desserts to go as we were stuffed from the meal. This was in June 2011 (I've been there since and it was back to wonderful again). Other than that one incident I have always been happy with the 50's Grill. If you go, you should try one of their shakes/malts (you can order one of their concoctions or mix and match a bit) or a fountain coke (vanilla/cherry/chocolate flavored!). Also, even though it can get a bit busy, the Sunday dinner special is amazing (turkey breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade bun, veg, stuffing) - you won't have to eat for the rest of the day! Top it off with a slice of cake if you have room. All of these dishes are made fresh with real ingredients - like milk, butter and eggs - and you can tell. It is just like your mom would make...well, like my mom anyway! Price-wise: It depends on what you get, but it's not too spendy, especially for the amount of food you get. An avg. meal with flavored coke, sandwich type entree and cake is around $16.

Went this evening to the 50's Grill, in front of the Sears, the sole survivor of Brookdale Mall. The place is quite busy on a Friday night, needing to wait about 15 minutes for a table. The food here is OK. I think it is mostly the atmosphere and the malts that draw people in. The burgers are just OK. I had the guacamole burger, which probably doesn't need any further explanation except to say that the bun was "homemade." The interior has a lot of 50's memorabilia, Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, Marlon Brando, etc. Neon on the ceiling is a little tacky, but hey it's fun, right? The service is good, with young ladies taking the orders and bringing out the food as quick as they can. Overall, it is a nice, family-friendly place.

I've been eating at the 50s Grill since I was a kid. We'd come to Minneapolis for the summer to see my oldest brother and it was always a treat to drive out here to get a burger and a malt. Even as I got older when I would come to the city to visit, my brother and I would hit this place up. While I can't comment on any of their dinners (this place caters to an older crowd, so there are a lot of early-dinner specials), I can say that their classic burger is tasty and that their selection of malts is fantastic - in fact, 50s Grill receives a nomination in my book for best malt ever. Truly, I'm in love. I've had a variety of malts including the standard chocolate (fan favorite), the turtle, the girl scout cookie and others. The secret: you have to eat the malt out of the tin. Don't bother wasting time pouring it into the malt glass they bring with the metal canister. There's just something about eating directly from the malt tin itself. :) The atmosphere is a classic 50s theme with high booths, lots of neon, classic music playing and pictures of movie stars, posters and magazine ads from years gone by. It's a fun little find; if you're looking for an old malt-shop feel with decent prices and tasty treats, I'd strongly recommend.

After playing Mafia II all afternoon, my boyfriend and I were in the mood for a "real-life" 50's era experience for dinner, so we decided to find a 50's diner we could celebrate our anniversary at. We are fond of places like Johnny Rockets, Mickey's in St. Paul, and Ed Debevic's in Chicago, so we know what to look for. I give it 4 stars for the food and the atmosphere, because both were good, but could be improved upon. The service was great even though they were quite busy while we were there during the Sunday evening rush. I ordered the chicken club sandwich with fries, and my boyfriend ordered the chicken pot pie, which is apparently their #1 selling menu item. We chose to split both meals, as well as a bowl of their chicken & wild rice soup (made from scratch daily) and a cookies & cream malt for dessert. I noticed other reviewers complained about the fries, so I proceeded with caution, but was pleasantly surprised. They were nothing compared to the fries at Town Hall Brewery (my favorite in Minneapolis), but they were pretty good for crinkle fries--even better than the ones at Uncle Franky's. The soup is a broth-based chicen wild rice, which was unexpected, but great tasting. They provided us with fresh baked bread which was perfect to soak up the extra broth. The chicken club was nicely toasted, and it had a generous amount of chicken and bacon, so it seems we got our money's worth at $7.95. The pot pie had a perfectly cooked flaky crust (top only), but the filling lacked a little flavor--I've had worse for sure, but if you want a top-notch pot pie, I would visit Brit's Pub instead. The malt was pretty good--it's not like you can screw up cookie's and cream. I will say that the amount was very generous, and well worth $2.25 per person. The decor could've been a little more authentic, although it was nice to see the staff in poodle skirts and an old TV w/ a circular screen in the entry area (that waiting area was my favorite part). All in all, it was a great experience, and I think we will go back again.

50's grill is a great place to bring the family and eat a big meal at a good price. This is actually one of my 88 year old grandma's favorite places in Minnesota and I enjoy it too. If you are on a strict diet this is not the place to go. However, if you are looking for a good ol' fashion home cooked meal and a delicious malt to accompany it you have found your restaurant. Remember you don't come to 50's grill to have a 5 star dinning experience. You come for a good filling meal, fun atmosphere and to catch some 50's culture! Great pie too :)

Every Friday night, a group of friends goes out for dinner all over the Twin Cities. Last Friday, we picked the 50's Grill. Fun atmosphere and the food was what you'd expect from a burger joint. However, you have to go there in November, which is pumpkin month. They have pumpkin everything! The best was the homemade pumpkin cheesecake. Baker's Square can't even come close to this!

I like 50's grill. It's basic comfort food, with neon! Any place with neon is ok with me! I really like the grilled chicken salad. The bread is yummy and the deserts even better. It's not worth going out of your way for, but if nearby a solid choice.

When I walked in here it was apparent that the clientele were made up of those who were in their 20's and 30's in the 1950's. They made some good food, in a truly 50's style restaurant. Chicken (version of spicy) was good. They served a healthy portion of chicken on a home-made bun. Everything was fresh and promptly served. Good place to go for lunch.

BEWARE! Took my family here having seen 8 reviews that averaged to a 5-star and thought we couldn't go wrong. It wasn't bad, but this is no 5-star place at all. Purely average. "Bison burger to die for" says one reviewer below. Not even close. It was totally average, even a bit dry. The fries are like ore-ida straight out of the frozen food section at the grocery store. The malts we're ok, but really, the "meh, i've experienced better" description of a two star rating is much more in line. Any chance that all of the previous reviewers are family and friends of the owners? Makes ya wonder.

Can I give a place less than one star? I can easily say this was the worst dining experience I have ever had... We found this place on one of our "let's drive randomly until we find a restaurant that has some character" evenings. The outside of the building easier grabbed my attention with the 50's murals on the side and the neon lights flashing at me. I knew I had to try this joint... The inside was cute! The wait staff was dressed in poodle skirts & pink shirts. The floor was black and white checker board patterned and everything indicated that this would be a fun evening... I noticed that the parking lot was full and the inside had a fair amount of people seated. We were quickly greeted and seated...This is where the evening took a turn for the worst... We waited patiently for our waitress to come over...and waited patiently some more...When she finally arrived, we had a few questions about the menu. I am not sure she knew any more about the menu than I did... I decided to order the meatloaf which was supposed to be "grandma's recipe" (it came with bread, mashed potatoes and a veggie for about $10) and a cherry coke. My husband ordered a burger (it came with fries for about $9) - sauce on the side and no tomato and a coke. Our food arrived and looked like it had been waiting to be picked up from under the heat lamps for about 20 minutes. My gravy and meatloaf had formed that icky film on it. My husband got his burger complete with tomato and sauce. As he started to remove the unwanted extras, the waitress realized that she messed up his order, but wasn't sure what to do next. After a "meeting of the minds" with another waitress & the manager it was determined that my husband should get another burger - the way he wanted it. And the staff was nice enough to point out that they wouldn't charge him for the 2nd burger. Really? As I ate my not so tasty meal, and my husband waited patiently (again) for his to be remade, we discussed being out of beverages for the last 30 mins and wondered if anyone would offer us a refill. Our waitress appeared with a freshly cooked burger and we asked for refills. She wandered off again and reappeared a few minutes later with our refills...which ended up on my LAP! YUCK! I quickly reached for my cell phone to make sure it hadn't gotten water damage and then reached for a few napkins - all while the waitress looked at me in disbelief...not offering to get me more napkins or a towel....just looking. This is when the manager appeared with a mop bucket and I suggested that she get me something to clean up the mess...and she came back with more napkins and an offer for another refill. At this point we were ready to leave when our waitress happily pointed out that she would go get our bill. Really? Our bill? The manager advised her that that was a good idea...uh, what? You want us to pay for this? Seriously? But we were at a point where we just wanted to get out of there, so we paid and left. It was one of those times when it was better for everyone involved to just pay the bill and walk out.....

This place is perfect if you want to relive 5th-grade cafeteria food. Vegetable was canned peas/carrots. Potatoes, instant. Water, not refilled. Malt (which was good), had to remind waitress I ordered it and get it to go. Not a pleasant experience. Maybe the burgers are better?

My wife and I stumbled upon the 50's Grill and thought it might be a nice change of pace. We were quickly greeted and seated but that was about the best the service got. We ordered our sodas and dinners right away when prompted. Once our drinks and soup arrived that was the last time we saw our server for a while. Both our drinks were near or were empty upon our foods arrival. Our server quickly set our food down and promptly left. So quickly I couldn't even get a refill request in. Upon looking over my order it was not correct to say the least. The server finally returned and for the most part wanted me to keep the item vs. getting what I ordered. Luckily another server and manager were near that could handle the issue. My wife was nearly done with her meal when my correct burger arrived back at the table. Again the server did not refill our sodas. Finally upon my finishing my burger was I able to get the servers attention to get our sodas refilled. After a bit of a delay she arrived and promptly spilled the full glass of coke all over my wife. To say it made a mess of the table and everything my wife was wearing is an understatement. Our server seemed perplexed and didn't know what to do. Finally a manager arrived with a mop and towels but proceeded to start cleaning up the floor and chairs near the spill. After some awkward moments passed I finally just asked for the check so we could leave. At no time did the manager or staff attempt to compensate for the disastrous evening. I personally will not be returning to this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone else either.

Great meal at a reasonable price! Highly enjoyed the food and the experience. Rachel did a fantastic job as our waitress. I think I will stick to burgers rather than the walleye sandwich I had. The wife enjoyed turkey salad sandwich and as always phenomenal malts!

This is one of our family favorites...pretty much everyone's family favorite and one of the first places we discovered after moving to BP. My dad always says to go where the seniors go. The food will be reasonably priced and tasty. This place is CHOCK-full of seniors...at least from 2-5PM. I digress. The food is great! Burgers, fries, "blue-plate" specials. I've yet to have anything I haven't liked. My favorite though is the veggie burger. It's homemade and unlike any other one I have ever had. Anyone who's vegetarian or just wants something really tasty should order one...NOW! Everything is fresh baked, from the bread to the desserts (please save room! You won't be dissapointed!) and the malts are THE BEST!

We love 50's grill. We had delicious bacon & smoked cheddar burgers tonight. We had soup and shared a side of small fries. The fries were yummy, the soup was yummy, and so was the burger...I didn't finish my burger so that we could share a piece of chocolate fudge cake...that was fantastic! Food is good, the people are very friendly. I would definitely recommend going here. Everything is made from scratch here. I love that!

The food is not all that great, their portion are very small and not worth the price. Sad to say but Perkins served a better meal that 50's grill.
