One of my favorite Twin Cities brunch spots. The menu has great takes on the classics, but I can't stop ordering the country-fried steak and eggs. Other favorites include the waffle and cajun breakfast. The staff is very pleasant and make you feel like a regular. They often have Groupons available if you want to save a few dollars. A+++!

I found a Groupon for 50th Street Cafe and I almost just tossed it based on my last experience at this restaurant. I am glad I decided to redeem it. It was a near perfect breakfast experience. Saturday morning crowd was large, a ten minute wait was only two minutes. Server was very friendly. We ordered orange juice which is excellent, the country fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs. It was prepared perfectly. One of the best country fried steaks in Minnesota. We also ordered the seasonal pumpkin pancake with cinnamon butter. Exceptional. As we left the restaurant, three different people thanked us for stopping in. Something has changed since our last visit, and it was a change for the best. We will be back soon.

Definitely needs to be updated with a good cleaning. There were a few flies and it had a musty smell. Not the best diner experience food-wise either. Service was fast and friendly and it was in a nice location.

UH-MAZING food. I order the standard bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast everywhere I go, because I feel it gives me a good sense of the place. This place had thick cut delicious bacon, perfectly cooked overeasy eggs, and WONDERFUL hash browns. Not only was the food delcious, the service was friendly, prompt, and just really enjoyable. Would go back if I visited Minneapolis again.

Wow 2nd visit and so impressed. Food was excellent!!! Must of been the best line cooks in town working there Monday morning June 22nd 2015 as not only was the food picture perfect, cooked perfectly, it was huge and so delicious. We had the breakfast special of the day which was a Denver breakfast sandwich comes with hash browns too. Also had the Carnita Eggs Benedict which comes with hash browns and Pico de gallo. The pulled pork meat with the eggs, biscuit and hollandaise is so amazing, but then you top it with a bit of the Pico de gallo and what an amazing layer of flavors. It's like a huevos rancheros+eggs benedict all in one. What a great diner. Only wish it was closer to home. We will be back.

Food is just ok. Slightly above Perkins. I love Benedict but these were just OK. Tried the carnitas Benedict and the crab cake Benedict. Both I give 2.5-3 stars. The sauce was too thick and lacking. Carnitas was moist but a little bland. Crab cakes were more cake than crab. Service was great and friendly! I wanted to try the pancakes but there were only 3 flavors.

The pumpkin pancakes with cinnamon butter were excellent. The No. 3 breakfast, eggs, ham, hash browns, and toast were very good, although the hash browns could have been a little crisper. Service was very friendly and attentive.

This place feels like a place my Grandma would love. And that's why I keep coming back (and because they always have Groupon/Living Social deals, not gonna lie). Solid breakfasts, large and decent benedicts. They have a couple "Cajun-y" items that are super tasty. Good service, usually pretty quick to seat- and there's an adorable bar counter.

Movin it up to 4 stars! 50th has really become my go to breakfast joint when I'm looking for that hangover cure or just a good bite to eat. They consistently have a groupon deal and like I said before the lunch counter is great. I've never had anything other than breakfast and don't know if I ever will. The country fried steak and eggs and biscuits and gravy are really all you need to know, huge portions and awesome gravy! There can be a long wait during peak times so be prepared, ither get people in and out quick though so it goes pretty fast.

Good food - I had the #3; poached eggs, rye toast, hash brown and bacon. Fast service, food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. Coffee slightly above average. I'd definitely come back for a fast, wholesome breakfast.

Whether your interest is crisp fresh ground hash, thick cut bacon, an assortment of pancakes to choose from, burgers with waffle fries, or the ever elusive walleye the food is great. Even better is the quality of service from their 70+ years if experience. All of this wrapped up in fast service. They even deliver through bite squad.

Oh my! Lovely cafe. I am a biscuits and gravy connoisseur. My partner got the French toast. We inhaled our meals so fast that we forgot to talk. Our server was attentive and sweet.

Crappy overpriced food. Unless you are some sort of trustfund baby that considers ketchup an exotic condiment, turn around, walk 50 feet to the west to the Pig & Fiddle and get great beer, or, walk one block east to the Red Cow and get great food and beer. If breakfast is what you need then go exactly 20 blocks south to the Original Pancake House. Otherwise, you are paying OPH prices for Denny's food.

It's like Cheers, but with food. And they may not know you by name, but they remember your favorite food and drinks. Perhaps it's because this is a neighborhood business, but literally everyone at 50th Street Cafe is friendly and work with a sense of urgency. It's so refreshing to go to a place that still believes in customer service. That's probably the main reason we go just about every Sunday. And the best of the best servers is Renee. She is so friendly, attentive and really loves her job, which is talking with people while bringing their meals to them. Ask to sit in her section, and you won't be disappointed. And you'll love her kickin' hairstyle too! Now a bit about the food. Sure, Chef Ramsey probably would have something to say, but you have to try a bit of everything, which I've just about done. My favorites are the Cajun Eggs Benedict, Tex Mex special, and anything where you order the extra Andouille sausage on the side. The make-your-own omelet is probably one of the healthiest options. I don't have a sweet tooth, but the cinnamon rolls are a tasty treat. Come hungry if you attempt to finish all the hash browns. They serve enough for an army! While not the best hash browns (a bit soggy), they are good. You may come here for the food, but you'll stay because of the service.

Great service, great food, ask for Jordan he's a great server and very knowledgeable about the menu. Prices are fair for location. Plenty of parking available

I had very high hopes for this place. I've worked across the street for years and had never tried it, but I purchased the groupon and took my family. The place was very ordinary and unimpressive inside, which is really no big deal, but the food was terrible. I ordered a healthy dish (egg white scrambler), and it had absolutely no flavor. I realize this is not uncommon when it comes to trying to eat healthy at a restaurant but my husband was not at all impressed with his hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy--which are hard to mess up. My daughter's cinnamon roll was hard and cold. Our server was fine, we just definitely won't be back due to the food quality.

Went for breakfast this morning with a party of six. Everyone raves about the food and they even split special between the two kids.

Took the family to 50th Street Cafe a few weeks ago for a Sunday breakfast. Luckily we got there before 9am and were able to beat the church crowd. This was our first time here...not the fanciest place in the world (your typical diner style decor), but the food was good. I had the Classic Eggs Benedict and my wife did the Tex Mex burrito. The cinnamon roll was also a nice treat for the kids (loaded with frosting). Overall, this is a solid spot for a good, reasonably priced breakfast.

The chorizo omelet and Apple strudel pancake were spot on. Large portions suitable for splitting or the largest appetite.

Excellent upside down pineapple pancakes!!! Just melted in my mouth. We also had a caprese Benedict, it was very delicious. Hashbrowns were good. Loved the flavours. Would come back soon to try other stuff. The ambience is an old fashioned diner style, husband and I both like the looks of it.

50th Street Cafe was a last minute breakfast decision with a friend. It doesn't get as much hype as some of the other breakfast joints in the area, but I think that's because it's not quite as "quaint" or "trendy." That being said, we ordered chocolate chip pancakes and caramel apple waffles, and it was delicious. The service was fine and the prices were average.

Great place for breakfast or lunch. Fast, friendly service. I have lived in this neighborhood for almost 3 years and have never been disappointed with anything about this place.

Good (not great, but good) breakfasts, fast even on busy mornings. I personally like their attempts at spicier fare. But I think the service is the best part of the experience...friendly staff, quick service, always keeping drinks topped off. Located in the old Pearson's location, it still has some older charm with the wood work and such.

Food is great Service is friendly and attentive Plenty if parking Prices are in line with expectations for location The place is crowded and wait is the standard on weekends Decor is from the 50's, if you care about that kind if stuff Bathrooms are small and old and grimy. Overall they are clean but need a remodel to feel hygienic.

The sheer promise of these hashbrowns completely ruined my meal. They were grated so finely- like angel hair pasta- that they could have been light, and crispy, and delicious. Instead, they were so waterlogged in grease that I had two bites and quit. Had I charged on and finished them, you would have been able to trace my steps through Minneapolis by nose alone, as the stench of grease would have wafted off of me for DAYS. Diner coffee (aka water), decent eggs, and decent (cold per diner tradition) toast. At least the price point was fair- $10 for a significant portion of food that, while being kind of whatevskies- was filling and enough. The wait staff, though, was truly great.

We have visited 50th Street several times. They have wonderful, great quality food. The caramel apple waffle, crab cake benedict, biscuits and gravy and el cubano sandwich are all wonderful. Our only issue is that they let food sit under the warmers waiting for your server to deliver or an order to be complete. We sat at the counter and witnessed our food sit for over 5 minutes. So I had a cold egg and my waffle was lukewarm with the whipped cream in a puddle. We would have much preferred the hot food when it was ready. There were at least 15 items under the warmers with ours. TIP: go to their website and see what deal of the day they may be offering just for mentioning you saw it on their website. 50thstreetcafe.com

First, I would like to recommend a name change to 50th Street Diner as it really has a diner atmosphere. Fortunately, the food is better than traditional diner food as is the service. I got a chocolate chip cookie dough pancake, just 1. Not as huge and dense as some brunch time pancakes, but a reasonable size. I easily could have done 2, but not without guilt. Anyways, it was essentially a chocolate chip pancake. I could detect the cookie dough in some bites, but not as much as I had hoped. My boyfriend got a caprese benedict. Very good! The hollandaise sauce was actually a pesto (basil) variety. I am not a huge fan of mozzarella, too plastic-y for me, but that is a key component of a caprese dish. All the ingredients of the benedict worked really well together. The side of hash browns was light, not super greasy or burnt (or whatever that brown crispy stuff is considered). While I did not try any lunch items, I probably would stick to the breakfast menu. My boyfriend really wants to return for his caprese benedict dish. I will permit this, as I really want to try the pumpkin pancakes. By the way, the area of the restaurant where we were seated had no windows. Not sure if this bothers anyone.

Food was delicious! Manager and server were very friendly. The menu choices were better than your normal pancakes or waffles. They had pineapple upside down pancakes and caramel apple crisp waffles among other tasty sounding choices! Strawberry Crepes were the special today and I think they should go on the regular menu! Yum!! We will definitely be back!

Mediocre food miserable service. Went there for breakfast and the coffee tasted was old and bitter taking while still not being very strong (not sure how they did that).

Not to shabby..I'm a basic eggs and bacon guy..good service. I was here about 11 am and was the one of maybe 3 people...Not sure what that was about...but like I said...not to shabby.

My wife and I had a $15 Groupon to the 50th Street Cafe so we took a 2 1/2 mile walk up there on a beautiful Minnesota morning. The sun beat on our face like Mike Tyson in his prime. We entered the establishment and it looked like a restaurant from the 70's but it was kind of quaint. We were seated in a booth and we waited for some good friends to join us. I ordered the Cuban with a side salad. My wife ordered the side salad and a corn bread. We laughed a lot with our companions and about 10 minutes later our food came. It's always awesome to catch up with compadres over a meal, truly some of the things you remember in life. I have had a lot better Cubans, this was on a baguette, but the pork was pretty dry and it could have used a lot more mustard or some kind of sauce. I read that there was some kind of good sauce, but I didn't notice it at all. It wasn't horrible, but it was very mediocre. The salad on the side was pretty good though. I liked that it was field greens instead of just iceberg lettuce. A nice touch. My wife loved the corn bread she got and I got to steal her ranch dressing to dip my sandwich in . It helped. I brought half the meal home and added some mustard and hot sauce to it. Now THAT was a good 'which. I popped it into the microwave and the softened up bread added 4 points to the score. On a side note, McKenzie in downtown Minneapolis has been my favorite Cuban so far in the "Cities" My friends liked the burger they split and our waitress was pretty cool. She brought it out already split for them with a little salad on the side of each one. Overall, a medium place, that served decent food.

How have I not found this place sooner. I love going out for brunch on the weekends. When Sunny-Side Up Cafe closed I was lost, and in constant search for the "go to place" for brunch when I was not feeling adventurous. I have found my "go to place"! The variety of eggs benedicts that they have on their menu is what got my attention. I am a big fan benedicts, because it is something I will not make at home. We arrived Saturday shortly after noon and they have plenty of parking next to the building. When we entered we were greeted right away. Since they had a dining counter that is where we sat, because my husband and I like to be part of the action. Also it is closest to the coffee! We both order benedicts; I got the Caprese Benedict and my husband got the Carnitas Benedict. We also got the Apple Crisp Waffle, because we had a coupon for a free one. First up was the Apple Crisp Waffle. It came with a side of syrup, but there was so much goodness/sugary yummy-ness on it you do not need syrup. Every part of the Apple Crisp Waffle was great. The waffle itself had a great texture and flavor to it. I LOVED the granola that they put on top of the waffle, and the apples were a perfect texture. I am happy I was sharing it with my husband, because I would have felt so guilty for eating a whole one. Eventhough I could have! Next up was the benedicts. I had a quick bite of my husbands Carnitas Benedict and it was very tasty. He seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. My Caprese Benedict was delicious! The basil pesto hollandaise on it had a great flavor and complimented the eggs, mozzarella and tomato. Personally I would have loved a thicker slice of tomato, but I love tomatoes. The hashbrowns that were served with them were cooked perfectly; there was a nice crispiness to them. I think the portion size was perfect; not too much food, but just enough. I definitely will be back to this place!

Again, I love me some breakfast food and would eat it for every meal if I could, but society says I can't. Anyway, as I grew up in the Linden Hills neighborhood, I have always loved hearing about new places as they tend to be very good. However, this meal was just OK for me. I had breakfast while my special lady friend had lunch (cuz, ya know, we have to try everything). The pancakes, they are OK. I've had better (See Jimmy's Cafe in Valparaiso, IN). The Eggs, decent typical eggs. Cinnamon roll, very good but still the second best I've had (See Mother's Cafe in Portland, OR). But the Bacon was amazing and something I wish I would have gotten more of. Lunch, El Cubono. Seeing that I prefer breakfast, and at 945am lunch wasn't sounding good, this sandwich blew me away. They have this sauce on it I wish they sold in a bottle. It was fresh, tasty and very presentable. The bread it comes on was soft but had a tough crust which is perfect for this sandwich. This sandwich alone, makes me want to come back and taste what else they have for lunch (BLT looked amazing). The service was your typical Minnesotan where everyone is always nice and apologizing for not refilling your water the second you're done with it. That being said, I was very pleased with how helpful they were. 4 stars for lunch 3 stars for breakfast

Went back recently and had the Carnitas Benedict... Flavor explosion! Also, the red head waitress was the bomb. My mother in law and 2 year old son were also there this time, and we couldn't have been taken better care of on a busy Saturday at 11am!

This was simply one of the best waffles I've ever had. I was a little sorry I got the apple crisp waffle because it hid a bit of the waffle. It was still good. Service was spotty, but in all honesty she was cute enough that each time she came back after the first few issues, I quickly forgot that anything went wrong. I will definitely be back, but hopefully I won't have the issues and the rest of the food is as good as my waffle was. (FYI, my friend said her hollandaise sauce was a bit salty and the ham added to the saltines in the bennys) Next I'll have to try the pineapple upside-down pancakes.

I love this place. The pumpkin pancakes are to die for. If there is one thing to eat here, get a pancake. The rest of the food is decent, I especially like their toast and eggs benedict. Prices are comparable to a Perkins or some place similar, if not cheaper. They also have a Foursquare special for a free specialty pancake after 3 check-ins. Go early, as they get pretty busy with a 15-30 minute wait on the weekends.

    (4)
  • Nicole P.

Meh, it's a diner and it is close to my house. The food is not amazing but the price is low and the wait staff are fairly quick. Basic but nothing special.

I hadn't ever heard of this place until I purchased a living social deal. It was a nice place. They serve mostly breakfast but do have a lunch menu. There is no dinner menu so don't make my mistake and try and go for dinner because they won't be open. The diner has a small town feel and the servers are friendly. There is not much decoration on the walls of the restaurant but simple is good for them. The eggs benedict and the pumpkin pancakes are both really good and I recommend either. Most of the menu is breakfast food so if you don't like that, don't go because your options are limited. Otherwise I recommend it.

Twice now in three weeks I an heading home hungry. While I don't expect huge portions I do expect to leave satisfied. Other than portions, service good. Will go back to the uptown location before returning back here.

Friendly staff but mediocre food. If you like very large portions of "regular" food you will be happy. If you are a foodie don't eat here. It is very much like a neighborhood Perkins. But not as good.

  • Cait B.

This place is such a gem. The chicken noodle soup is amazing with bits of herb in the broth surruonded by soft noodles soaked with the flavorful broth. Then, it comes with a corn bread muffin that has crunchy raw sugar drizzle on the top. It is a nice cafe that I would love to come back and have breakfast at. Not high on the romance chart-more of a meet up for breakfast/lunch spot!

Am I the only one who remembers when the Texmex's used to be huge and completely covered in salsa? I used to split them with my hubby (and pay the split fee) and they would deliver 2 ginormous portions to each of us. Now I order my own and it's not nearly as impressive. They used to be amazing, but I have had 2 at the 50th st caft and neither really met my size or flavor expectations. Perhaps I'll have to get a new favorite becuse this is not the texmex of yesteryear.

Went to the 50th St Cafe for breakfast on Labor Day. The hashbrowns/eggs/sausage were simple and delicious. Exactly what I was wanted. My friend got the pumpkin pancakes and was raving about them as well. Our waitress was very on top of everything despite a packed restaurant and didn't roll her eyes (as many waitstaff do) when I told her before I ordered that I was using a Groupon. This place isn't fancy but filled my craving for some belly-filling comfort food.

  • Beau D.

I was excited when I walked in with the sight of very comfortable retro decor, unfortunately the grease must have been retro as well. My son and I walked out feeling ill. The hashbrowns had and old grease flavor as well as the crab cakes. The crab cakes were from ready-made frozen...yuck. The bacon was very good as well as the pumpkin pancake, however the pumpkin pancake was more of a dessert type dish than a breakfast entree. I didn't even put syrup on it and it was overly sweet. Way too much fat is going on in the making of this food to even try to consider it healthy. The coffee was good and the server was perfect. I don't like to feel ill after eating...we will not be back.

Great service and even better food! We order from here every Saturday morning. We generally have a very large to go order and everytime the food is hot, delicious and plentiful. Service is always friendly and speedy. Have no complaints and will continue to order every Saturday!

I had a pumpkin pancake which was very tasty. Had hoped to try the sweet potato tater tots, but the staff reported that their delivery service didn't fill their order on the previous day, so that was a disappointment. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The decor is sort of cheesy- oriented towards older Edina folks, I guess. There were few customers there at 7:30 on a Wed. AM, so I hope that the place survives as I liked it overall.

Delicious El Cubano, so so good. I got it with the salad (side salad with spinach yeah!) and used the veggies in the sandwich too. It was tasty and delicious, super satisfying and the service was great, I would recommend this place!
