Super, super cheap breakfast and lunch cafe! They have all the basic stuff, and the food is nothing to die over, but it is so cheap! Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but nothing that you couldn't make at home if you really wanted to. But who would want to when you can get it for so cheap here?? They close at 2, and are not open on Sundays, which is a huge bummer.

5 for experience, 3 for food. And while I like a good experience...I'm mostly looking for good food. This little gem is surprisingly good for groups (the staff was quick to offer to move tables together in the back room) and has a large menu with many options. Cash Only, can't say it too many times, and the prices can't be beat. But...my soft poached eggs were medium-hard (though props for trying I guess) and my hash browns seemed needed at least another 60-90 seconds.

Wagon Wheel is a place that time forgot. Menu, prices, table side juke boxes , customers and staff all harken back to simpler times. I stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed my 2scrambled with wheat toast and coffee. No frills. Great service. Place was busy but there was no wait on the food. They keep things rolling at the Wagon Wheel.

The food here was good, and cheap! I think all three of us ate for under $35, and that includes breakfast, and pie for each of us. I'd heard about this place forever, one of my professor's did an oral history project here - and once I stopped in, I instantly knew why. This place is full of locals, each one definitely appearing like they have an interesting story to tell. I found the Jukebox to be fun - even though it was a tiny hard to hear. Someone had left a song for us, and then none of us had quarters. Contrary to an earlier review, they take cash and LOCAL CHECKS. Like a lot of hole-in-the-wall places, they don't take credit cards (merchants pay lots of fees to the credit card companies). While not taking credit cards is/can be inconvenient, at the same time, I think a lot of people just become accustomed to using credit cards for everything. There are ATMs nearby (Walgreens is across the street, just stop in before getting breakfast), and the cash/check thing isn't a problem for me (and I don't think it should necessarily held against them).

Quaint little place in the middle of old downtown. The decor is a bit eclectic; Kirby Puckett is all over the walls, cute jukeboxes at every table (with up-to-date music), Wagon Wheel merchandise available at the counter. My wife says they have the best French Toast. I had a typical breakfast: 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. It was ok. Nothing special. Be forewarned, they only take cash and the nearest ATM is at the Walgreens down the street.

We came in on a slow day looking for Chicken Fried Steak, but Wagon Wheel didn't have that so we both settled on ham and cheese omelettes and a stack of pancakes to share. The kitchen mixed up our order and we were given two Denver omelettes, I kept mine but the missus doesn't like onions or peppers so hers went back. I would have been happier if I received the omelette asked for, if the cheese was cheddar instead of a slice of American, if the onions and peppers had been sauteed or even warmed instead of feeling like they were cold and raw. The pancakes were okay and the choices on the table-side jukebox were amusing, but I don't see us stopping back here unless we're in the area and need a quick shot of breakfast on the cheap.

The Wagon Wheel is a page right out of the Minnesota restaurant history books. It's Mankato's longest operating restaurant, and "If it's not broke, don't fix it" describes their business model. The Wagon Wheel offers up typical greasy-spoon diner fare with decor that hasn't changed since most of us have been going there (and that's a LONG time). Eggs and hash browns are good, as well are pancakes. The food is nothing spectacular, but it's CHEAP and one of the best values in town. The people that frequent the Wagon Wheel add to its kitschy feel. Generations of college students have been coming here in the mornings to nurse their hangovers with hash browns, eggs and bottomless cups of coffee. They sit right alongside the older "regulars" that have been eating on the 50s barstools since before they were born. You're just as likely to see a tattooed hipster as you are a senior citizen. It's a bit of an oddball mix of clientele, but still a pretty good cross-section of thrifty Mankato restaurant-goers. A great place to grab breakfast and a bit of Minnesota history for under $5. I give it a 5 for history and kitsch, and a 3 for food. Therefore it gets a solid 4.

I was incredibly disappointed in this place. We saw that the rating was great when we went in this morning and decided to check it out. We were waiting for another person to join us and enjoyed the nice environment around us. The thing that got us after we were served was the lack of customer service. The food was great for my friend and I, but my other friend had a little hair in her food. But other than that it was good. The waitress was sweet until the end when we needed to cash out. We went up to the front to pay since she never came back to check on us. We were helped out by another waitress, who under her breath claimed that she didn't need to be doing this right now because she needed to get to her back to doing her own stuff. We didn't get one of our checks because my friend with the hair in her food only needed to pay for her drink (which was nice of them to do) I explained to the waitress helping us that we didn't have a check for the pop because of the incident and she just got frustrated. So after cashing out one of the 3 checks, she walked away without saying anything to us. Our original waitress came back a couple minutes later and was so rushed that she was getting irritated with us since I had to write out a check. As we left, we just all looked at each other in complete confusion and a WTF just happened kind of look. Anyway, rant over. I was disappointed with how we were treated as customers but the food was inexpensive and good for the most part minus the nice black hair.

This is a breakfast place. Nice little diner with cheap eats. I personally didn't like the eggs they served or the browns. I usually get the pancakes which are ok. The only reason why I go is because I usually talked into it. I make a better breakfast at home

Cheap, cheap, cheap, pure old style diner, has the 50's music selectors on the tables, the breakfast tastes like your mom made it and it is super reasonable. Completely family run, check the hours before you go because they are only open mornings until like 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Great for a greasy cure your hangover breakfast on Saturday mornings!

Always love going here. Cheap food, sorta small portions though, so get a lot. Interesting mix of college students and the regulars. Can be busy, only open for breakfast and lunch. Overall, it is a sweet find for Mankato. Greasy spoon!

This place was ok. Definitely cheap. There was not one piece of chicken in my chicken dumpling soup. My kids liked their breakfast. My husband had the hot roast beef sandwich and said he would never go back. The service was friendly. It would be so easy to kick this place up a notch... they either don't know how, or don't care enough. Overall, my opinion is that it is cheap but I'm sure you could do better yourself at home.
