Zeitgeist Arts Cafe Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

OK, so here it goes. I should start by saying that I am a bit spoiled when it comes to restaurants and cafes, because I travel all over North America as a part of my job and I've had the chance to eat at some of the finest places in the country. I shouldn't have that high of an expectation of an "Arts Cafe" in Duluth, MN, but given the way they come across, they really need to deliver quality. First of all, I'd like to give credit where credit is due. The ownership really put a lot of effort, time, and money into trying to bring a little more culture to a historically industrial town. The renovations and decorations used to create this trendy urbanite-like cafe was really well done. Straight lines, nice lighting fixtures, very creative use of old movie posters that have been blown up cover the huge wall that appears when you first walk in. Just, overall, a great atmosphere. As far as the concept is concerned, I also think it's a great idea. Combining Sundance type films with trendy food and drink in this town. It's a brave and brilliant idea. The thing that got us the most was the poor service we received on a Tuesday afternoon at 2:00pm...after the lunch "rush". There was literally one other person there when we arrived. I'm not sure if this kid was the exception to the rule...but after watching the manager on duty and interacting with the guy that runs the theater downstairs I am thinking this is their culture. The kid serving us was the bartender, waiter, and host all at the same time...which is fine because there were 3 people in there. I've never quite felt like the restaurant was doing me a favor by allowing me to eat there...but that's the feel I got from the staff there and I'm quite intuitive. The food was actually quite good. We had the bacon wrapped dates for an appetizer and an ahi tuna wrap with wasabi cream cheese and it was very tasty...my girlfriends rice bowl was lacking.....well.....rice. It was one scoop of rice and a bunch of brussel sprouts, but it was still tasty. Their drink selection was also very good. I am just very disappointed that I felt like I walked into a restaurant in NYC or L.A. and I was in Duluth where "Minnesota Nice" is supposed to be in full effect. I hope that management reads this and makes some changes because Zeitgeist Arts Cafe has potential! Don't let it slip away because of a lack of service. That's something you can control!

My wife and I were passing through Duluth on our way to the North Shore and someone recommended the Zeitgeist to us for dinner. We found the food VERY good with a interesting mix of Asian and new American dishes. The smoked gouda stuffed dates appetizer were particularly tasty. Wy wife had the curry rice bowl and enjoyed it, but I had the pressed fig prosciutto sandwich and it was REMARKABLY good. In fact, that sandwich alone would be reason for me to come back to Zeitgeist if I am ever in the area again.

I have NOT eaten the food here, so I cannot speak to that. I wandered over from Blackwater for half-prices wine one Tuesday with a few friends, and I really liked the atmosphere. It was open, modern, and clean. The waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable about wines and desserts, and I would definitely return to try out a meal... or maybe just another bottle of wine.

This is a really chill place. I went here on my last night visiting Duluth and I was so happy it was only a couple paces away from the Sheraton Hotel. The prices per dish are not bad, portions are moderate, and selection in dishes range from vegetarian to meaty choices. Since I was only dining as one person, I chose to eat the Coconut Curry Tofu for $12 (option of chicken is $2 dollars more). I was quite please with the dish, however the tofu was not cooked to my ideal standard. The restaurant grilled the tofu leaving behind grill marks, which aesthetically appeared nice but left the tofu tasting like burnt food with occasional bites. I prefer to have my tofu fried. None the less, the ambiance is very nice. Decor is sleek looking and modern. I would definitely be coming back here whenever I am in Duluth to try new things.

Good food. Good vegan options. Amazing service. Daniel rocks. Wandered into this place after reading Yelp reviews, and I'm mightily glad that I did. Daniel was uber helpful in navigating the menu, and he went out of his way to make sure I got everything that I needed. The green living rice bowl was legitimately delicious, and it was probably healthy too. Definitely come here, especially if you're vegetarian or vegan.

The food is good, the service not so much. We had reservations at 7 and showed up about 10-15 minutes early. It was far from busy, but we were told we had to wait until our reservation time to be seated. We also had our server take plates and drinks from us before we were even done. You shouldn't have to tell them you're not done yet. If I go back, I think I'll try sitting at the bar.

This is a solid cafe but I wasn't blown away by it. I had the portabella mushroom burger and I didn't feel that the portobella mushroom was strongly flavored enough to stand up to the various other ingredients piled on top of it. The service was good. Prices seemed high for what you get.

Wow... Urban Bistro in Duluth! Basics: great service, great atmosphere and better food. This is my first experience "trusting" yelp while traveling. I found myself in Duluth for a single night. I decided to check out on my yelp app what was recommended nearby downtown. This little place had a few reviews, and all 4-5 stars. I checked it out for lunch on my way out of town. The place is great! I am a Michael Pollan fan "In Defense of Food" and this place prepares very simple foods, healthy and in a great environment. I would expect this level of quality in San Francisco or Portland, but not Duluth. Give the owners a lot of credit. I had the artichoke bake and it was so creamy and loaded with artichokes... not filled with spinach as a cheep substitute. I had the mushroom sandwich with fruit. the sandwich was perfect but what really caught my taste buds for a surprise was the quality of the fruit. Anybody traveling in the Mid West with real West Coast experience will tell you that fruit really degrades after shipping across this country. Another reason to live out west! I am not sure how they did it, but the pineapple spears where so fresh and ripe and the grapes were loaded with water and the just right amount of crispness. If I lived or worked in the area, I would make this a regular stop. Unfortunately for me, I was only in / out for the day. If you are in the area, make this a must stop.

On my recent trip to Duluth, I stopped here for lunch before hitting the road back to the Cities. Zeitgeist is a classy little place, and if you were blindfolded when you walk in, you might have mistaken your locale for someplace other than Duluth. From your surroundings, you wouldn't even realize it's across the street from a sad little casino! The decor has an exposed- brick loft feel- with seating up and downstairs. Between myself and my two companions, I tried the hamburger w/fries, the caprese sandwich, and the tofu curry bowl. I loved all three. I can't say they tasted like the best versions of those dishes that I've ever had, but they were certainly tasty and beautifully plated. A couple next to us ordered the banana cream pie for dessert. It looked good and HUGE! I recall it was a bit pricey for a dessert, but after seeing those people eat it, I'd say it was probably worth it. I will definitely come back to Zeitgeist on my next Duluth trip- but hopefully to try the dinner menu!

On our trip to Duluth, we drove past this place on our way to another eatery. We were intrigued by the name and decided it would be a place to stop for one of our other meals. Boy I am glad we did. We decided to do a late lunch here on the 3rd day of our trip. P had the curry bowl .... I tasted and it was awesome. They cooked the tofu perfectly. I had the prime rib sandwich. Although it was a little more cooked then I like it wasn't dry and it was flavorful. The fries or pomme frittes were very tasty (warning to peanut allergies they are cooked in peanut oil). Our server was in training (his 4th day on the job) but he was very good. I loved the decor of the place. It felt more like a Minneapolis NY restaurant then in the middle of Duluth. Hope it is around when we visit again.

I'm always looking for organic healthy choices and Zeitgeist Arts Cafe hit the nail on the head. They have a wide variety of apps, salads, sandwiches, and entrées made with locally grown produce. Their selection is delicious, low fat/calorie, and unbelievably fresh. We shared the Visoui salad, followed by the shire rice bowl, and banana cream pie. Go for the pie alone! It's excellent! Fresh bananas, fresh whipped cream, and real vanilla. Make sure you share because it's huge (that's what she said).

This new addition to Superior street is fantastic. Absolutely delicious food, fun and friendly wait staff, and a very classy decor. The food is very reasonably priced (even for a college student) and the quality is superb. With the lounge downstairs, it would also be a great place to catch a drink before one of the shows in the adjacent Zinema2. I would highly recommend visiting this new and exciting addition to downtown Duluth.

ATMOSPHERE: Upscale casual. The walls are exposed brick, the stairs and railings are metal, the table and chairs were pressed bamboo. It was all very minimalist, but in a nice cozy way. SERVICE: Our waiter was just OK. He seemed a bit "too cool for school' with his tattoos and ear lobe plugs. He clearly did not want to chat with us, even if it was to recommend something off the menu. FOOD: I had the Lake Superior white fish sandwich with arugula, aoili and capers. It was lovely. The bread was soft, the fish was flavorful, and the aoili and caper sauce was a great spread that tied it all together. The only negative is the arugula had no flavor at all and clearly came from a bag shipped from who knows where. Why do restaurants in the middle of the frozen tundra insist on serving things like arugula in winter? My husband had the 14 oz. ribeye which he said was tender and perfectly cooked to medium. French fries were skin on, skinny fries that were dee-lish and not greasy. WINE: They had a very nice wine list. It was short, but there were good selections available. $7-$11 glass. COST: A first glance the cost seemed good, but tax is unusually high in downtown Duluth, so my fish sandwich at $12, and two glasses of wine at $7 each, came to $35 with tax and tip. Kinda pricey for what felt like a casual dining meal. (Steak was $26, with two glasses of wine at $7 and $11.)

Drop by the Zeitgeist and for a few minutes you'll forget you're in Duluth - the best compliment I can give. Lovely, upscale decor, simple elegance. I was reminded of the west coast. The menu is eclectic enough to be interesting, but not so far off the beaten path that you & your fellow diners won't be able to find something you like. The jalapeno crab cakes are a typically great starter - a solid favorite with a delicious twist. Service matches the vibe, professional, friendly and tight. Hands down the best dining experience on the downtown strip. Great for a date or out-of-town guests.

Had the cream of asparagus soup. Quite tasty. Friend had the coconut curry bowl and really enjoyed it. I had the cucumber lavender sour martini - it was a fun drink, but probably best enjoyed on its own (wasn't a good combo with asparagus soup - but this was more user error than a taste issue). Also had the apple dumpling which was yummy, but please, no raisins!

This is an excellent resaurant. My wife and I have been there three times now, and the food is consistently outstanding and creative. In my opinion, it is the finest restaurant in Duluth in the last thirty years.

This place is no short of perfect in my opinion. The service is excellent here for one. Speedy, efficient, and very knowledgeable. I'll start with the bar. Mint Julep, awesome. Nothin' like a lil mint added into your bourbon. The ginger brew they have there can be excellent by itself, or in a number of drinks, especially the Gin Gin Mule (believe that's what it's called, sorry if not) So bar, great, bar staff, great. On to the food. Start your meal off with the coconut curry mussels for sure, very tasty. You can then dip your bread into the amazing coconut curry sauce the mussels are embedded in. The menu caters to a number of people. From the macaroni and cheese lover to the vegetarian to the salmon and filet mignon lover. Just a couple of my favorite things here would be The Shire rice bowl, The Bison Burger, The Prosciutto and Fig Sandwich, and the macaroni and cheese. (yes macaroni and cheese, just trust me.) This place has it all... Great cooks, great service, great bar, great atmosphere. I recommend everyone check it out!

Duluth needed this restaurant.....the very clean European decor is refreshing, the servers accommodating, the hoped -for comfort food comforting, the many interesting dinner and lunch offerings worth continued visits, the special desserts very good AND the French Fries very very very oh so good...........that's all. Ahhhhhhh relax.

Our service was great. Food was terrible. The menu looked fantastic, venue was awesome, and my wife and I were very excited. Unfortunately the garbage the kitchen sent out couldn't deliver on the "seasonal fresh" menu concept. My wife ordered the gnocchi. It was fresh made...at one point in the distant past. It tasted like it had been lost in the back of the freezer since last fall. The gnocchi was rock hard and couldn't be stuck with a fork. We registered our complaint with the waitress and I told her to tell the chef the food was an embarrassment to send out the kitchen. Any quality establishment would meet that with a no BS response face to face from the chef or manager. Instead, the poor waitress had to come back with an apology and excuses from the chef. That part was probably worse than the crappy food. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere.

Beautiful space filled with local art and smart design choices: check. Friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable staff: check. Intelligent, fun menu offering unique choices in all price ranges : check. Interesting wine list, fairly priced (and half price bottles on Tuesdays): check. Attached art house movie theater, screening all of those films you've been meaning to catch: check. I think we have a winner here.

The food was very good. I had the Green Living Rice bowl with tofu. The veggies were delicious, as was the tofu. However, there really was not much of the veggies, and I was a little hungry when I left. If I hadn't added the tofu, it was hardly enough to be an entree. I'm a fan of smaller portions, but for $13 for rice and vegetables, I expected to have more vegetables in a vegetable entree. Also, there was so much tahini, it took over the plate. I ended up leaving a glob that was about a third of a cup of it in the bowl after finishing the rest of the food. This was after eating it with every biteful. Overall, it was delicious, but the portion was way too small for the price. If I'm in the area again, I might stop back since everyone was really sweet and the atmosphere was nice.

I was very impressed with the Zeitgeist Arts Cafe. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the friendly host. The cafe has a very modern and clean look to it as you enter the bar area, which is highlighted with a great painting by local artist Adam Swanson. We were seated immediately. Our host walked us to a table adjacent to the floor-to-ceiling windows, giving us front row seats to the large snowflakes dancing around and quickly burying the street outside from the freshly brewing snowstorm. The first thing I read on the menu looked very appetizing and I thought I had made up my mind immediately. However, as I read through the menu, I quickly realized that I was going to have to make several return trips to the Zeitgeist in order to try all of the great looking dishes on the menu. I had trouble deciding which meal(s) I wanted to consume during my first visit. We started out with an order of Spring Rolls and Thai Peanut Sauce. Not generally being a huge fan of the spring rolls I have ordered at most restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that these were very good. I can safely say that they were the best tasting spring rolls I have eaten. Our server was friendly and helpful with any questions we had about the items on the menu. I finally decided that I would try the Thai Chili Bowl ("Thai Chilis, pea pods, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and tofu sautéed with sesame oil and served in a seasoned mushroom broth over fresh rice noodles and topped with roasted peanuts") and the Coconut Curry Rice Bowl (Sautéed red bell peppers, broccoli florets, shallots, Crimini mushrooms, and housemade coconut curry broth on brown basmati rice"). We were informed that the Thai Chili Bowl was a bit spicy and figured that would be a good option on a chilly night. Unfortunately, the Thai Chili Bowl was quite bland and flavorless. This was surprising based on the variety of ingredients it contained. Hopefully this would not be the case with the other entree. Upon my first bite of the Coconut Curry Rice Bowl, I knew there was going to be a problem... the portion was not nearly big enough. The flavor was excellent and I knew I would want more as soon as I finished! The meal was served hot and the vegetables were fresh. I would definitely recommend the Coconut Curry Rice Bowl. It will be hard for me to order something different the next time I visit, as I will be very aware of the awesome flavor I will be passing up to try something new. We decided to go big and sample a couple of their desserts as well. We picked the Deconstructed Banana Cream Pie and the Flourless Chocolate Cake. I assumed that the dessert portions would be tiny, considering the fairly small dinner portions. As I watched the server walking across the room with a large dish on each arm, I hoped that the two distinct items on one of the plates was our server's decision to consolidate both of our desserts onto one plate, and that the other gigantic pile of whipped dessert in the other dish was destined for another table. Nope! They were both headed straight for our table! The plate with two items was the flourless chocolate cake along with a pile of whipped cream (which I previously hoped was the deconstructed banana cream pie). The gigantic, fluffy, whipped pile of deliciousness in the big bowl on her other arm was the banana cream pie. So, unfortunately the dessert proportions were way too big and the meal portions were a bit too small for my liking. I would give the flavor of the banana cream pie a giant thumbs up! The bananas were very fresh tasting and the cream and banana "filling" were also quite good. The cream pie came with graham cracker, cookie like, pieces in the bottom. These bites were quite sweet and there were way too many of them for me. We had more than satisfied our sweet teeth with the deconstructed banana cream pie, so we decided it would be counterproductive to indulge in the rich looking flourless chocolate cake. So, we boxed it up to save it for a future post-meal indulgence. My 2nd visit for dinner wasn't quite as impressive. There were a few sandwiches on the menu that looked good. I decided to ask what kind of bread they used for their sandwiches. Unfortunately, they only had white bread. I was quite surprised by this, as I figured a restaurant that offered high quality ingredients for many of their dishes would have an alternative to white bread sandwiches. I ended up ordering the Yellowfin Tuna Wrap. I was hoping the wasabi caper cream cheese would give the wrap a bit of a kick, but it did not. There was way too much cream cheese for my taste. However, the flavor of the Tuna itself was awesome. BRUNCH: Pretty disappointing that they only serve brunch on the weekends. Another thing that was disappointing about brunch is they only had a total of 6 tables open. So, it ends up being quite a wait to be seated. I ordered the Huevos Enchilada and it was quite good.

mmmmm Pork Belly Hash. It fell apart when I touched it with my fork. Smokey, silky, moist, tender, had those great little browned bits, huge portion. mmmmm The hash was house made and made well, the eggs were perfect. mmmmm Service was fast and friendly, and this was just the spot to take Grandma Pat for a quick brunch after seeing the town. Very trendy, but not stuffy. I loved everything about it. Everyone at the table was also happy, but I couldn't tell you what they ordered. For me the pork belly hash was my everything.

Visiting Duluth recently and I must say I fell in love with this place. The service here is superb, server was friendly and i felt like i was being pampered the whole time. I got the Pork Belly Hash and my girlfriend had the Croque Monsieur Benedict. Both were excellent in term of taste and presentation. Until next time, Zeitgeist!

Zeitgeist is a terrific place to come alone. Sit at the bar. Have a glass of wine. (Or on Mondays, half-price whiskeys - and there are about 50 of them). Great service, very good ambience, and good food. GET THIS: Coconut curry with chicken Pinot Noir

This is a great place to grab a cocktail before a movie or a show. Cocktails are very delicious in my experience, and they have that specialty crafted feel, you know, the kind where the bartender probably used a match to make your drink. The pricetag on said cocktails are pretty reasonable as well. What really is a selling point for me personally is their pretzel app. I have a special place in my heart for excellent bar pretzels, and these might just be first place in my book. Three huge pieces of pretzel bread came in a cone-shaped basket at a steal. Served with jalapeno cream, mustard, and parmesan sauces, you will be in bread heaven. Need more of a place to lounge? Take your drink to the lobby/lounge to people watch through the streets of Duluth. Love this place.

Superior Street's best hidden gem! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is cool & trendy as well as the menu offerings! THIS IS A MUST TRY! Jack's Turkey is my current favorite.

I was just here on Business eating solo at the bar. Felt comfortable with a huge selection of drinks and a great menu. I had the THAI CHILI BOWL with tofu - they made it with the right amount of heat! A little different menu with some healthy options which is always a big plus.

Ate there about 5 years ago while visiting duluth--not sure what day it was (prob sat.) and it was half price night on New York strip..It was fantastic. Juicy, and great seasoning. We were at the bar and ate right there. Forward to about a year or two ago...went back looking for similar deal/meal--Nope. Whole bunch of oddball stuff on the menu. Got a differnet cut, I think it was fillet--was complete crap. Not sure what happened inbetween, but it was dry and flavorless. Prob going to give it one more shot during Airshow 2014--hoping for the best. Will update or re-review after that.

We've dined at the Zeitgeist a couple of times and have left fairly pleased. The food is upscale in conception and execution, especially in Duluth. The menu features a healthy amount of vegetarian dishes, and the beer and wine selections are well chosen. Service has been good each time and the ambiance is enjoyable. I think this is a great institution for Duluth, and I look forward to catching some shows here someday as well!

Just a short review because we only had a few things off the menu last night. We had the assorted cheese plate (served with toasted baugette slices) and the steamed green lip mussels. For dessert we selected the Creme Caramel....I had a Sazarac and Leigh had an Air Mail to drink. As usual the food, drink and service was great. The only downfall of the night (our fault) was we decided to sit downstairs and the only table open was across from the kitchen. Not the best ambience for a romantic meal, but it was fun watching the action in the kitchen. Zeitgeist continues to be one of our "go to" places in town. If you haven't been there, give it a try.

I have been wanting to eat here for awhile and finally got myself out of my own kitchen for a night out. The feel of this place is very nice. Our waitress was very polite and attentive. I ordered "The Shire" and my gf ordered "The living green rice bowl". The food came quickly and was very fresh and hot. Awesome flavor in both of our meals and a nice amount of food. We really savored each bite. We left feeling happy and light on our feet - 3 cheers for healthy meals! The front of the menu has some good info about the organizations they support and where their food comes from. Some of the food comes from "seeds for success" which is a program that has low income people gardening in plots all across the city. The food they grow is sold at farmers markets in Duluth and Zeitgeist buys it too. I look forward to coming back and trying the white bean burger.

Minnesota Burger Reporter Kawikamedia checked out the Zeitgast Arts Cafe in, part of Zeitgeist Arts, a combination cafe, arts cinema and theater in the downtown neighborhood that is rapidly becoming Duluth's "Art Sector". He and his pals took in "The Skin I Live In" which he pronounced to be the strangest movie he had seen in a long time, and then popped into the cafe for a bite. The cafe has a large bar, with windows overlooking Superior Street, with the splendor of the ediface of the former Hotel Duluth in view. Kawikamedia had the grilled Angus burger, with melted cheddar, dressed with lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayo, plopped on toasted bun and accompanied by pommes frites. (I never knew there was anything "French" about Duluth, except for the founding father). He pronounced the burger and fries as A-OK!

One of my favorite places to eat in Duluth. Food and service has always been great here. As a frequent traveler, I like to try the local establishments wherever I go and this one is definitely a good find, especially in a town the size of Duluth, MN. The New Zealand Mussels in coconut curry are tasty as an appetizer and the sweet and heirloom potato gnocchi is something deliciously different to try (although the cheese sauce wasn't prepared as well as it could have been one time). The roasted chicken is also a nice way to go. The cocktail menu is fun and the bartenders are quite knowledgeable and handy with the good variety of spirits behind the bar. Anytime I'm in Duluth, I'll stop by.

I got the coconut curry with tofu ($12). First off, I need to say that I don't usually actually enjoy tofu; it is something I order solely for protein. The tofu here actually had some nice flavor to it! (Aside from just absorbing the flavor of the sauce.) My husband got the mushroom ravioli and let me try one....it was seerrrrr geerrrrrd! The ravioli itself was lovely and flavorful, and the sauce was creamy and delicious. I just want to note that when my husband's salad came out, it looked SO GOOD. Salads are normally not that tantalizing. It looked so fresh and full of delish veggies..... We all shared a cone of truffle fries with aioli sauce and ketchup, which was to die. I love me some truffle fries. Hooray for a good selection of vegetarian dishes!! I got a glass of Vouvray which I really enjoyed, and it was the cheapest wine at $6.50 (most were $7 or $7.50). It was a shame that we didn't have time for dessert, but we had to run downstairs for the 7:20pm show! I will return to try some of their interesting cocktails...

I love the brunch here. I always get the Croque Monsieur Benedict. It is too good to pass up. I like the lunch and dinner menu too but brunch is the best by far. Sit at the bar, Nick the bartender will take great care of you. He can make the best, most inventive drinks depending on what you want to start with.

Brunch AAA pork belly hash. Apps curried mussels or the pretzel . Never had a bad meal here . From Nick the bartender on weekends order the special " old fashion" and call a taxi. :)

Had the bacon wrapped dates, salmon, coconut curry bowl, and banana creme pie. None of it was astounding. The salmon was the best dish we had. Rice was a little crunchy in the coconut bowl and the banana creme pie was not so much a pie as the brown sugar cubes were quite hard and difficult to eat, and the bananas were not cooked. Overall, I loved the ambiance and the concept but I didn't have anything revolutionary. Would probably try it again but would look around for other spots as well.

After a crappy day at work on the road in Duluth I was relieved to find some refuge at Zeitgeist Arts Cafe. My colleague and I decided to camp at the bar. The cafe has a modern clean look that pairs well with their Northern hospitality. Looking over the menu we decided to go with the $25 price fix menu of four courses. I liked that our bartender did not rush the meal and consulted us before putting the order for the next course Additional bonus: Tuesday night is half price bottle of wine night. We started with a cold beet and orange soup purée & a warm creamy roasted onion soup. Both were excellent - the beet purée was tasty and thick, the flavors fresh and bright. Our next course was salad which included a baguette with goat cheese - it looked delicious but was gone so quickly that I missed a sample /-: Our main courses included a broiled halibut and duck. The halibut was a bit dry but the duck was exceptional. We concluded with a berry cream dessert with Ginger snaps and some chocolate cake. Overall a terrific dining experience. Food portions were on the money, presentation creative, and combination of flavors unique. The next time I am in Duluth I will drop in again. Thanks for the great service and relaxing meal.

I wanted to try this place for breakfast/brunch because of the Espresso Pancakes on the website that is on their menu. I came in today and lo and behold they "just changed" their menu and this seemed to be the only dish changed. I was a little disappointed, but I did also want to try the PB&J french toast, so I went ahead and tried that. In addition, I ordered a side of poached eggs. When the order arrived I was a little disappointed in the portion size, but prices were decent, and it is more of an "artsy" cafe. The french toast was actually just two thin slices of french bread with some jam and peanut butter drizzled on, and a little dollop of whipped cream. I would hardly call it french toast, but it did taste decent. Eggs were cooked very well, so that was an upside. My food was a little under lukewarm when it arrived, but I didn't mind too much. They have a decent selection of breakfast and brunch items. Coffee and Bloody Mary drinks are available, and as I mentioned the prices are decent for the quality. For a quick bite it was okay, but I did not leave wanting more. I can't comment on lunch or dinner, but for breakfast there are many other places in Duluth to try out. Service was excellent and welcoming, and the front dining room is very casual with a view of the street.

We decided to make this our dinner choice after driving up from the Cities, based upon the reviews. Not realizing it is accessed via the theater door we walked right past it. A brief 15 minute wait allowed us to sample the bar - where the overall service is friendly but not overwhelming. The Aviation was very different than others (pulpy) and the Old Fashioned had a bit of a twist. Dinner was served by a friendly but not altogether service-oriented waitress. We ordered a cone of fries that we anticipated to be crispy, but were a bit on the soft-side with a really good aioli, portion size was enough for 3. An awesome charred romaine salad was next, slight fault with the grape tomatoes that were too firm compared to the salad. A bit disappointed by our over cooked seafood - lake trout was dry as was Scott's shrimp (in curry bowl). The mandarin orange beurre blanc sauce (notified replacement) lacked any richness and was on the tart side. Overall, good impression but execution was not firing on all cylinders.

This was awesome. Loved every minute. Came out to celebrate fiance's promotion, and I'm so glad we did. We started with the cheese plate. I had a glass of Owen Roe Sinister Red, as recommended with awesome detail by our waiter, Daniel, who listened to my preferences and described this wine with gusto. Perfect choice. (And they have a great wine list, by the way.) And the cheese platter, though small, was delicious and came with fig jam. The perfect start to our meal. On to dinner. We split the whitefish sandwich and the portobello sandwich, both with fries. Both incredible. The only minor change we would make is the goat cheese in the portobello sandwich. Didn't go with the other, Asian-themed condiments. It wasn't bad- just a little distracting from the overall flow of the dish. No biggie though. Fries were great, tasty and not greasy. What else? Great atmosphere, cool music, local artists' work on the walls. And our waiter Daniel was quite a character. Very lively, telling us stories and keeping us laughing, while remaining unobtrusive. Definitely added to the experience. We got a kick out of him. If I lived, well, in this time zone, I'd definitely return. Fantastic experience!

The ambiance is great. the food was terrific. However; the waitress was very slow and unable to communicate menu choices . Some of the problem was a large group but the staff could have told us that we should get our order in before the group. Overall a great place and we will be back.

Totally impressed! Went here for lunch today. A great meal was had by all in our party: Caesar salad, Whitefish, Chicken sandwich, and Proscuitto & Fig Sandwich were our choices... and we all left happily full! I really enjoyed the decor and style of this place... you walk in and can either sit on the main floor, or we went up the stairs to the 2nd floor loft area. All the staff was extremely friendly... server was great! We'll definitely be back... and I was very excited to feel some good changes happenin in Duluth! :)
