Tour stop #3. Lake Superior Brewing knows what they're doing when it comes to beer. The brewery tour was informative and I was fascinated to see the milk kettles there. Everyone seems to have their own style and it looks like they made due with what was around at the time when they opened. It adds a lot of character to the place. There were so many beers on tap to sample, I had a hard time trying them all. All the brews were good. No exceptions! My favorite was the North Shore Wheat and it was growler worthy. I'll be looking for this again in the summer months at my local liquor store. While their taproom wasn't open yet, we saw the makings of it. It's coming along nicely and I look forward to stopping in once it opens.

If you are going around to the different breweries in Duluth, don't forget Lake Superior Brewing! They are getting a taproom this summer, but in the meantime, they will give you a tour of the facility and let you sample their beers. The beers were great, but the enthusiasm for their product makes this brewery a must stop on your tour. As with all breweries in this area, growlers are also for sale.

These guys were a microbrewing before it was cool. Great beer. I highly recommend the Kayak Kolsch and their North Shore Wheat. The actual tap room is fairly small, but there is plenty of seating. The folks working the taps are extremely friendly. I'd particularly like to mention a fellow named John who engaged us in a great conversation about the history of LSB. Very friendly and genuinely passionate about his craft. A quality which I imagine is shared by the other employees of LSB.

This local brewery in Duluth, MN has been at this for 70 years and this is where you can get a great local Minessotan brew to soothe almost anything that will ails you. I was fortunate enough to do a short brewery tour here with a friend of mine during a very short weekend stay in Duluth, MN. The Lake Superior Brewing Company prides itself on being the community brewery in Duluth and on the North Shore along Lake Superior. I never knew that there was another place in the US that uses "north shore" other than in Hawaii. While we did do a small sampling here of their brews, this is just your brewery and not a retail store to buy. The Lake Superior Brewing Company is the pride of the Duluth & North Shore communities. The beers that were sampled were tasty and good for the palate. The brewery itself is located W Superior Street in downtown Duluth. The facility is large and that what a brewery should be. Parking options here mostly is street parking, which is nice. It's preferable to call or email the brewery to schedule a tour beforehand, which we did. The tour itself was interesting and informative. While the brewery tour was complementary, it helped me solidify what breweries actually do, their processes, and the fact that they make really good products for all their customers and suppliers. Our host was friendly and professional. I learned a lot about what local breweries do and how well they do certain things that national beer companies really don't do. The regional breweries have that special touch when using local suppliers and local ingredients from their surrounding communities to hand craft and brew the best beer possible for Minnesota. The tour lasted about an hour, which was basic and quick. No sense to linger around after the sampling and the tour itself, so we just left thereafter. The Lake Superior Brewing Company is an asset to the local scene, which Duluth prides itself as a business hub as well as a place to live and work in upper Minnesota. One of my favorite parts of the tour was seeing the gigantic vats that they use to mix the beer concoction. It was just surreal to me. Almost like being at the Ben & Jerry's factory in Vermont and seeing how they make their ice cream. Similar to that. The overall experience was nice. To be able to be entertained by something other than the rental car radio during the 3 hour drive from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Duluth was a breath of fresh air. Enjoyed the brewery tour here at Lake Superior Brewery Company and hope to try their other signature brews in the stores in the near future. The brewery itself was clean and well maintained. Just like any private business, looks is always important. Support local! B+

Some of the finest beer made in MN. They have a great Kolsch, Pale Ale, and well all styles. They do seasonal rotating taps as well. Nice small intimate tap room right in brewery. Always great service. Make sure to stop when in Duluth.

I'm not a beer drinker, my husband is. We try to stop at local breweries whenever on vacation, or passing through another town. This one was really cool. Small taproom in their brewery. You were immersed in the middle of their operation, but it was a nice little nook to relax in. The beer was apparently really good - hubby is a beer snob, and he liked it - and the root beer (that I THINK they made themselves?) was quite good... And only $1. Says my husband: every beer they had was a great representation of that particular style. Their prices were so low, I kind of felt like we were ripping them off somehow. Their "sample " pours were $1 each, looked to be about 4 oz or so - whatever is normal for flights, I guess - much cheaper than when we order flights elsewhere. They don't even hose you on the merch. The staff was warm and friendly, and it has a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.
