Great little mom and pop place for lunch. Good attention to detail on the food: crispy bacon, hot crispy chicken, perfectly toasted bun. Friendly service. Recommend a look.
My family gathers for a family reunion every Summer in Lindstrom, and some relatives and I just found this great place this year! We had breakfast both mornings we were there, and each day it was delicious, solid, and exactly what you want breakfast to be before you spend the day expending all your energy on a tube behind a boat. I had the eggs benedict on the second day and it's as good as any brunch I've had in Chicago. The place was full of regulars, and the whole experience is a great piece of middle America. Loved it!
We often get food (burgers or pizza) delivered to our house. Always hot and fresh. We finally had breakfast there and I have one word for you -- Pancakes!!! They are so darn good. Fluffy AND crispy!! Great little diner.
We decided to try The Northern today, glad to see someone upgrade the old Trappers. The good: I liked the decor, plenty of space between tables. Much needed updates, great bar area. The bathrooms were nice, great faucets. The service was good, but a little slow, but we did find the last open table so they were busy. I will say the French fries and the fried pickles were good, the fries were well seasoned and tasted very good, a cut above the norm, the fried sliced pickles were good and the dip was just right, just not very many on the plate for $7. The bad: Not impressed with the food. The burgers, while big we're average. The blackened northern tacos were below average. The chili also was maybe a C+. I will try this place again in the future, but not the fish tacos, or the chili.
As a 12 year resident of the Chisago Lakes area I was quite excited to see that someone had decided to take a run at turning "Trappers" in to a successful endeavor. Though I had been encouraged by others that said The Northern was "good" I soon discovered after my first visit that the food was mearly "not bad". It seems that expectations in the Chisago Lakes area is at a point where the local DQ is included as a dinning option. Thankfully, in my desperation to find "good" food without driving a half hour I decided to try The Northern once more. What an unexpected surprise! I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich I could tell by looking at it that this wasn't a hastily prepared knock-off that is so often the case of meals served up this way. My sandwich came piled high with large chunks of lean, tender, barbecued pork, not simply roasted pork butt slathered in BBQ sauce. Accompanying the sandwich was a large portion of well seasoned fries, again the owners did not opt for the cheapest French fries they could get from Sysco Foods, they seam to care about providing their customers with a quality product. If your looking for fine dinning, skip this place, but if what your looking for is quality pub food at a reasonable price The Northern Tavern may be the place.
visited on NY Eve with a group of 8. service was great, my burger was delicious and cooked as ordered. This was my 2nd visit. I will keep going back!
I'll give it two things; the place is clean and the food is okay (slapped together usually) but there is no customer service. I have been to this particular location 5-8 times (I try giving people the benefit of the doubt) but I have yet to be greeted with anything other than "what do you want?" As a customer, I feel like I am always bothering them. How dare I bring my money in to patronize your business!? I'll take the extra 15 minutes and drive to the Stacy location to avoid this location. I also made my sentiments known to the management, which clearly fell on deaf ears since there was no follow up of any kind. Get what you pay for, I guess.
I have been to many Subway's and this is the only one I have issues with. Several times they have not had the bread available that I want. The bread is cooked on site so there is no reason they can't make more when they are getting low. I could understand them being out if I came shortly before closing, however I was there at dinner time. Tonight I refused to settle for something I didn't want and left. I would like to frequent the local businesses but next time I will drive a little further so that I can be sure to get what I want.
