Behind the bar you'll find Jose' - he remembered what I liked from a visit a month prior; again he hooked me up with some wonderful authentic pork tacos with cilantro, lime and onion. They were full of flavor and the service was fantastic! I did specifically ask for only authentic Mex fare and chatted about it with them beforehand, if you know what you want and ask for it I'm sure you'll be pleased. This restaurant is a nice little surprise.... Highly recommend.

Currently sitting in my room at the Holiday Inn eating the crap that was put in a tortilla, and was decidedly called a "burrito". Being from chicago I know good Mexican, I know bad Mexican, and I know great Mexican. Brainerd might only have 8 Mexicans in the entire town but I don't think they know what they're doing. I can deal with sub par ingredients in a $12 burrito (seriously though) but I won't let these wonderful people in town eat this food without knowing how bad my experience was. I'm refusing to eat the rest of this burrito or even attempt to eat my quesadilla because it's covered in American cheese. AMERICAN! Also the food came out way too fast. Pretty upset at the moment. Guess I'm ordering pizza.

Underrated Mexican restaurant northern Minnesota. A rarity in this part of Minnesota. Try it you will probably like it. Those who claim to spend a lot of time in Arizona and Texas rate this restaurant quite high. My one time experience was not so good. I felt the recipes were below average for Tex-Mex. .. But then I am comparing it to Javier's in Dallas..,Taco Loco in Shakopee etc . Applebees perfect margarita still cannot be beat. And Applebee's Brainerd Baxter has pretty darn good food. Four Sea's Chinese Buffet in Brainerd may be the best food in the area.

Best authentic Mexican you can find in this part of the country by a long shot. Everything is much more authentic and the food is better than other Mexican restaurants in the area. True Mexican family run. Great food for a good price

Best, most-authentic Mexican food in the area. We've eaten there 3 times; I really enjoyed 2/3 of the entrées. Consistently excellent service.

This place is OK. You get a lot of food and the prices are appropriate. But lets not beat around the bush, its chain restaurant food. Made for Americans Mexican I guess it could be revolutionary in the Brainerd area, but the stuff here looks and tastes exactly like what you get at any El Loro/El Toro in the Twin Cities. Applebees of Mexican. So thats the story, its decent grub. Nothing special though, definitely not outstanding. In my couple visits the service has been inconsistent, from a server who was very attentive to one who looked bored, was grumpy, and shoulda stayed home that day. I tip(or don't tip) accordingly ;) lol I did find the salsa with the complimentary chips to be better than expected. You find attempts at ethnic food (ok chinese buffets do NOT count) about as often as you find plutonium in Brainerd. You can't even find a gyros there! This place pulls off Mexican but stays American enough to have a chance at life in Brainerd. I recommend it if you are jonesing for some Mexican eats.

My favorite Mexican place in town. Great food and really good prices. Every once in a while the wait time is a bit long, but usually they are super speedy.

What a gem! Finally an authentic Mexican meal, and reasonably priced. I had the beef chimichanga & hubby had the beef & chicken fajitas. Both were excellent. I don't usually get excited about refried beans, but these were the best I've ever tasted!! We also loved the salsa. Fresh but not too hot. The chips were not the best, but everything else was. Will definitely come back when in town. Highly recommend!

When they first opened they seem to be attempting fresh mexican style cooking making things like Pork Carnitas from scratch. During a recent lunch visit I found they now (I suspect) use what looks like pulled pork directly for a supplier and doctor it it with a little bit of seasoning put it in a shell with some lettuce and cheese. Nothing like a year ago. Other guest ordered lunch chicken fajitas that came quickly with a reasonable amount of chicken but short on veggies with sides of canned refried beans and cuacamole. We also ordered margarita's on the rocks and to our surprise saw on the bill they without our request decided to upsell and bill for "Golden Margaritas". At least they were good! Salsa is not bad with a little bite but ren through the blender a little too long. Rating given due to dishonesty of server and too many shortcuts using pre-prepared supplier products.

This place has your standard greasy Mexican fare. Huge huge HUGE portions. And pretty decent Mexican food. Definitely the American version of Mexican food. You will probably leave this place 10 pounds heavier!

Decent mexican. If you're looking for ***a lot*** of Mexican food, this would be the place - portions are huge for the price (even by mexican food standards!). Quality of food was alright, margaritas were a little weak... but hey, for a small town, not bad.

Wow. I saw completely shocked how great then service is here. I stopped in over memorial weekend for lunch and was completely taken aback at how great their service was. Our drinks were always full, the food came out extremely fast and our salsa was always stocked! Halfway through the meal I dropped my fork and by the time I bent down to pick it up a server already had a new one over. My mom mentioned napkins to me and all of a sudden we had more napkins! Overall the food was great! I had the lunch fajitas (which were only $7.99)! It was a lot of food, you can almost split it with someone else if you're not a big eater. I recommend checking this place out if you're in town!

Great experience! Great food. We had the tequila burrito and steak fajitas. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity especially for a northern MN town. Excellent service! Or waiter was attentive, kind and personable !

My husband and I just ate there. Margarita was horrible, came in warm glass. Food has gone downhill since they reopened. The service was even worse. Save your money, eat Mexican in Denver.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
