I attended a large wedding at Craguns last week. They did an amazing job! Everything I put in my mouth was excellent! Staff was friendly and responsive. It was such a great experience that we have decided to hold our family reunions there from now on. I highly recommend it!

We stayed at Craguns for a family wedding. I was not overly impressed to begin with, it was very pricey. It seemed clean enough at first. We purchased our own snacks as our adult children were staying with us. Our family arrived late in the evening, we visited, ate snacks and went to bed. When we got up in the morning I was horrified. the snacks were scattered around the counter, with a cookie half way down the stove burner. When I lifted up the stove top, I found mouse feces. And not just a little bit of it. We ended up throwing away all the snacks we had purchased that were open, and the bag that was chewed open. The rest we put in the refrigerator. When I reported this to the front desk, they said they would have a maintenance man come and check it out. To our knowledge no one came. When we left, the feces was still there!!!! Our sleeping time was not so great either. In the cabins either side of us there were parties that went all night with people fighting and arguing. NOTHING was done about it. To say we didn't get much sleep is putting it mildly. I don't know that we got any. Again, when we checked out I talked to the guy about our concerns, pretty much got blown off. I will find another resort to stay at, the area is beautiful, I would recommend getting up there if you can, but I would HIGHLY recommend staying elsewhere!!!!

I really wish we could rate businesses with half stars as well, because I would rate this place 3.5. Let me start by saying I grew up about thirty minutes outside of the twin cities, and my parents often brought my brother and I up to the Brainerd Lakes Area for weekend camping and fishing. Because of that, I have good childhood memories associated with this area, and so I'm cutting Cragun's some slack when reviewing their hotel. We stayed just two nights in a hotel room facing the water, and had a great time overall. I did make a mistake when booking the room, reserving a room with two double beds instead of a king room. I'm not quite sure how this happened, but after we walked into our room, I immediately called the front desk. They said I booked it that way, and after pulling up my confirmation email with her on the phone, I saw that I had in fact booked it - my error. They said they were fully booked and didn't have any other king rooms available. Double beds are small, so we ended up sleeping in separate beds, annoying, but you deal with it. Upon checking in, we noticed three signs in the lobby that had daily activities posted for the next three days, including wave riders (not sure what that is-but its not jet-skiing), SNAG golf, Get wild animal show, and a bonfire. There was a movie night, paddleboard lessons, yoga, and other activities geared towards families and kids. After we got settled we headed to the main lodge where the indoor pool and arcade are. We played ping pong for a few minutes, but there was a shortage of ping pong balls for their two tables. There were only two balls (haha) and one was dented, so it didn't work very well. We gave up on that shortly thereafter and played a game of pool. About the rooms and the hotel overall... Yes, the place is in need of a major update, but the property is huge, so they just need to start somewhere, like new bedspreads. Those are VERY old and ugly. They do have flat screen TVs, so that's good. I really think part of the "charm" is the fact that its old school, but if you're not expecting it, then you won't be happy. The bathroom was dated, with a very old toilet, old faucets, lights, etc. Everything is clean, it's just old, and because I do like the setting, I can get past it. Northern MInnesota has a certain vibe and this place embodies all that is Northern Minnesota in a way. Even the paint colors, brown and teal accents everywhere, seems dated, but they're not trying to be something they're not. It's cabinesque; it is a lake property, not a W Hotel. I feel like I could go on and on, but yes, it's dated and I am ok with it, that is the bottom line. For what I paid per night, I do think it's reasonable. I like that you can rent boats, paddle boats, and kayaks. Canoes are free for guests. We used two kayaks and that was probably one of the best things we did, for only $10 an hour per kayak. Cragun's is located on a smaller part of Gull Lake which is perfect for gliding around on a kayak. We spent over $100 renting a jet ski for an hour nearby and probably enjoyed the hour of kayaking much more. I love the free firewood. We lit a fire in our room the first night, and we had our own personal, and free, campfire on the beach near our room both nights. They provide newspaper, kindling, matches, and chairs. Enjoying a campfire on the beach making s'mores makes a great vacation even greater, and they provide the environment to do that. We ate the brunch for about $11 and that was fine. The scrambled eggs weren't to my liking, but everything else there, pancakes, fruit, bacon and sausage, were all just fine. I probably prefer the character of an in-town restaurant instead, but this fit the bill for staying on the property. We also ate dinner at the very dated Hungry Gull Restaurant on the property (which I wrote a separate review on). The food was actually very good. One last thing we enjoyed for a short time was the outdoor pool. We soaked up more sun than we swam, but the pool is heated and feels good even when the outdoor temp isn't all that warm. I think true Minnesotans "get" this place. It's been in operation since 1940, and sure it needs some updating, but it is clean, and there are plenty of activities for families or people like us without kids. Don't be so snoot snoot, and enjoy yourself!

Spent a fabulous fun winter getaway here and impressed with how fun they make it for families. Yes, the place is old and somewhat outdated but you're up North, not @ a Country Club. Super friendly staff, from front desk to bartenders to staff in the Marina - everyone goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Food at the restaurant is so, so with odd hours, but there are so many fun places to eat in town it didn't matter one bit to us They threw a wonderful poolside welcome buffet Friday night with a great live acoustic guitar player, nice selection of buffet choices, (typical but good) with a bar setup and lot's of servers walking around offering kids free lemonade ..what's not to like?

My girlfriend and I wanted a weekend away from everything so we decided to stay in brainerd MN, a lovely town in Northern MN. We decided to stay at Craguns Resort because it seemed to have a lot of accomodations and we knew a few people who had stayed there before. we arrived and the facility was older and dated which I dont mind, IF ITS CLEAN and I can assure you, craguns is not clean. We arrived and got some food in the bar, the bartender was friendly, but they were out of blue moon on tap and a handful of others so I just settled for a bottled mich golden. food was sub par and seemed cheap. we went back to our room and as we were going to bed after lounging around our room for a bit we noticed our noses were getting stuffy. we didnt think anything of it since it was the winter season. We woke up the next morning and were getting ready to go out we noticed a black colored mold around the vent. We were both instantly sick to our stomachs knowing we had been breathing moldy air all night, we checked the other 2 air vents in the room and they were moldy as well. If you want to see the mold for yourself youtube Craguns Resort Must Watch its only about a 2 min video posted by username Gallstones. I removed the disgusting vent from the wall only to reveal more mold on the inside I wiped it with a paper towel and the towel was completely black! BLAH! We respectfully bagged the vent and brought it to the desk and asked to speak to the GM in a private place as to not make a scene in the lobby. When we showed her the vent she didnt have the reaction a general manager should have, it was as if she didnt realize the health risk of having moldy vents and at this point I was getting mad, not only did they get us sick, but basically was a wasted day trying to find a new place and cencelling our plans to ice skate and snow shoe at Craguns. When the compensation came up, she gladly comped our stay from the night before, but she said we would still be charged the 100 dollar booking fee. I told her that was unacceptable and that we were not paying a dime to stay in a mold infested room. This is when she said something that blew my mind. "well we need to charge you something, we still need to clean the room" "CLEAN THE ROOM?" i said pointing to the mold infested vent "you should have been cleaning thes room I told her in disgust. she started getting sour at this point but I wanted more than just my room comped, she had posed a health risk on us and ruined 2 days of our vacation. I asked her to pay for the remaining 2 nights we booked at cragus somewhere else. now I realize that is far fetched, but I was mad and rightfully so. she said she would absolutely not do that I asked if she was kidding, she said no and I said we are out of here. left to never come back to this place. if you have any reguard for your health and the health of your family DO NOT STAY AT CRAGUNS and if you are forced to because of a convention or some other reason please check your vents for mold before sleeping in the room. I hope someday I am able to write a 5 star review for craguns maybe after they get some new management but for now 1 star, place sucks.

Just returned from 7 nights at Craguns. Stayed in a cabin that was very clean with updated appliances and a very large tv selection of channels . The staff was friendly and helpful at all times in all places . My children also took advantage of activities incl the sports center & ping pong. One night the ping ping balls were missing so we simply walked to the lobby and were given two new balls - no hassle ! The cabins were as expected for a "northern " resort .

Maybe if you're really into golf or staying at Craguns for a family-vacation-type experience, it's adequate. From a business perspective, however, it's not very good. First off, Craguns is right on the lake and has beautiful views, etc. It has an old-school lodgey-cabiny feel that has a certain amount of charm. The "old-school" label, however, cuts both ways. Is it "old-school" as in old-fashioned and quaint and charming...or is it "old-school" as in run-down and in desperate need of updating? Mostly the latter, actually. Things like carpets are hopelessly stained, the rooms have not been updated since maybe the 50s, and everything looks shabby. Curtains are ripped and tattered, chairs are marred, floors are scuffed... The air smells stale and musty, and the conference/meeting rooms, especially, smell mostly like a food-service hallway (you know, that faint whiff of souring milk and day-old dead fish?). The conference facilities could also use a serious update to make them look less depressing (heavy, dark brown walls and carpeting, chipping tan painted beams). But that's not why I'm giving Craguns one star. No. I'm giving it one star because the food is simply awful. We decided to eat lunch here instead of venturing out to another local restaurant and that was a huge mistake. I had a simple hamburger and it was... well, it was like it was served out of a cafeteria; it was boiled, soggy, and darn-near inedible. The fries were just soggy and unseasoned/salted. Why on earth would you serve someone food near a deck overlooking a lake and not, you know, grill a burger? Co-workers had similar food experiences; awful burgers, an awful, fishy walleye sandwich, and icky fries. At least the counter girl taking our order was friendly. Actually, everyone we met there was extremely friendly and eager to help or assist. The service was great, but the facilities and the food could use a serious makeover.

First, this review is for the hotel, cabins, and conference center. The golf course is 5 stars in my opinion... but the hotel complex is simply not a 5 star experience. Here are the nicety's: *You can have a nice little fire in the fireplace in the hotel rooms or condos *nice lake view and water access *pool is good for the kids, nice temperature and size Here are the not-so-nicety's: *rooms are old and dingy (although I understand they're working on upgrades) *food isn't very good As for the overall value, I think the room rates should be much cheaper. The one way to get better value for your money is to work out a group rate with them. All in all, I have enjoyed my stays there!

If you have the bar set appropriately this is a great spot. It is Brainerd.... Rooms are ok. Food is ok. Beach and kids club are great. Good spot for family vacation. Bring your own libations and food though. Menu is a bit limited and greasy. Karaoke Bar tons of fun! Must do! If bad weather, the indoor pool/ game room with full bar and food service is money. Hours of fun!
