We live in the area and kept driving by on our way to Cub, and finally decided to give it a try tonight on our way home. It was excellent! The service was wonderful and friendly, the food came out fast and had great flavor, and the prices were excellent! We'll definitely come back :)D

Food was very good and the place is really decked out inside. They did a beautiful job designing and decorating the dining room. Beer prices were OK. Sitting there for happy hour according to their table tent, when we asked the server for a happy hour beer, we were told it didn't exist??? Order the beer anyway and it was only a bit more. The main problem is the early closing time. We came in an hour before close and were the only patrons. Seemed like they didn't so much want us there either. Food came quick as did our check. Good food. Questionable wait staff.

Yelp had bad reviews for this place, but overall we had a (second) good experience. Food was tasty, service was good. We got our dinners FAST. We will go back. Carnitas were yummy! Enchiladas were better than other places (Acapulco). El Loro is still our local favorite, but this place is close to home, so it's our other go-to

I think the food and people here are amazing! Not to mention the alcohol! I love it. Carne Asada is delicious! Food portion is generous!

This place is great! We had the fresh quac which was delicious and prepared at our table. I had a peach daiquiri. I like that they have several sizes to choose from instead of just small and fishbowl. The middle size was perfect. For entree I had the Molcajetes del Mar. Very tasty! Husband had the Mucho Burrito. Everything was perfect. Service was just right.

When my family and I first walked in, I thought this would be a great experience...the atmosphere was really nice and the restaurant was really nicely decorated. But our waiter seemed to lack customer service training and/or experience. He wasn't very friendly and just seemed to not care. My husband and I both needed refills on pop and the restaurant manager came to our table and asked me if I needed a refill, but completely ignored my husband. The manager came back to our table with my refill, but still ignored my husband. ? So I had to put my husband's glass at our edge of our table and even then, it took our waiter almost 10 minutes to notice. It's not like it was busy or anything. There were 3 other tables occupied and that's it. And I don't think that we should've had to ask for a refill...our waiter should've just noticed, especially since it wasn't busy. Then when it came to our food... I ordered Chimichangas with beans and I got rice instead. But I wasn't going to make a big deal about, so I just ate the rice. The rice seriously tasted old because it was very firm (but not undercooked firm, it was definitely old)and I couple extremely hard chunks of rice. I make rice all the time at home and when I leave the rice in the pan overnight, that's exactly what this rice tasted like. It was disgusting! My husband ordered some kind seafood dish with shrimp in a red sauce. My husband is Mexican, so he knows what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. His plate was like $12.50 and he was definitely not impressed at all. Just wanted to try a new restaurant, but I don't think that we'll be going back. Really disappointed with the service and the food. Also, they really need to play some more upbeat music. I love Mexican music, but they were only playing slow tempo music which would be fine if they added some Cumbia or some other upbeat music with it.

Excellent dinner. Just opened on 7/19/2014. Had Choripollo - chorizo sausage and chicken with a flavorful sauce. Served with tortillas, beans and rice. The meat was tender and juicy. It's not unusual to have the chorizo be very dry and crunchy, but this was moist, tender and delicious. My wife had the Pastor tacos - pork chunks with onions and pineapple. The meat was tender and the flavor incredible. This also came with rice and beans. The meals came with chips and two types of salsa, red and white. The white had a sneaky heat to it - sweet and creamy at first taste. Both salsas were very good. We were seated quickly and got beverages right away. The food came in a reasonable time. Would have liked to try dessert, but were too full. Maybe next time. They've got three types of Molecajete on the menu - my wife's favorite dish. Again, something to try next time. This restaurant is on the site of a former Chinese buffet. The inside has been completely redone, and it looks great.

3.5 rounds to 4. It really your typical Mexican food for this price point. But what pushes it over the top in its league is the great salsas they have if your into the hot stuff. The service is outstanding as well.

I was looking for a new place to try and I found an article that ranked this restaurant as one of the top ten in the city of Blaine with an average of 4.5 stars with 16 reviews. After our meal, I found out that Yelp tells a slightly different story. I would give this place an average rating, it seems like a normal, sit-down Mexican restaurant. The menu is incredibly large with something for almost everyone. The décor of the restaurant is nice and rustic looking. But the food was just average. The beans and rice were terrific but the tamales that I had were nothing to write home about. The service was also average, but the food was delivered quickly after we ordered, as is the case in most, similar Mexican restaurants. I will likely go back to satisfy any cravings I get for Mexican food (specially since it is located only 2 minutes from my new apartment), but I don't think this will be a regular visit or tradition.

I knew better than to come here... I read the Yelp reviews before I came. But a friend of mine insisted on meeting here. I must be a masochist because I went anyway! GOOD: I have to admit, THE SERVICE was very good. The server was polite, prompt, attentive, and accurate. He checked back regularly. So did another person--who I think was the owner or the manager. BAD: THE FOOD really sucked. My Burrito Ranchero (with shredded beef) was without form. My plate looked like a pile of dog food with lettuce & mayo on top. My burrito completely lacked any shape and was buried under "stuff". Plus, the burrito thingy was super small. I did the Chef Ramsey thing and dug around to try and find it. I was unsuccessful in locating anything that resembled a burrito. The re-fried bean portion was also super small and stingy. I should have just ordered a platter of shredded iceberg lettuce and mayo. My friend's Chicken Fajita didn't look much better. It was an amorphous pile of chicken crap with suspiciously small portions of the expensive parts. THE TOPPER: To top it all off, the restaurant smelled of some kind of cleaner that made it smell like a big urinal cake--yuck! Or I should say, EL YUCKO! FINALLY: A drunk lady at the bar kept trying to engage me in conversation from about 15 feet away. Oh, man! It was only noon. CONCLUSION: Coming here was a complete waste of time and money. Will NOT be back. Will BELIEVE Yelp next time. -Daddy Maxx Retro

Only thing I didn't like and it was minor was that.. I didn't like the small amount of sause. . Yes I know it's free! But! The food is good the chips were good, good drink specials, good people working.. I don't have one bad thing to say about San jose.. Our server was great! The food came out hot and perfect. . I m about small business and I hope this guy makes it... great decor, nice bar area... surprise to see no locals sitting at the bar watching a wild game.... Oh well keep up the good work guys.. we will be back.

Another great meal at San Jose's . I had two taco's refried beans very fresh ! My daughter said the chili rellinos were great and just the perfect ! Hubby had chicken enchiladas and a beef enchiladas.

Food was just ok. Service was good. Don't know that I need to return. I and a friend had the enchiladas supreme. The beer was cold and I enjoyed that more than the food. The decor is cute.

We finally got a chance to try San Jose which opened not too long ago off 65 and Main St. We ordered the Carnitas (shredded pork served with salad, rice, and beans) and the Enchiladas Rancheros (cheese enchiladas served with shredded pork/carnitas, onions, tomatoes & bell peppers along with salad and rice or beans). The carnitas was delicious! Prepared to the point where the meat remains moist, is just about falling apart, but has the crispy almost burnt outer edges that add so much flavor. The rice that was served with the Carnitas was just the right consistency, not sticky or overcooked. The beans were of adequate flavor and consistency. The salad, I'm sad to say, left something to be desired but the salad dressing and mild, white Queso on top just about made up for it being bagged Fresh Express Garden Salad blend possibly from the Cub Foods two doors down. I would urge San Jose to use just some plain lettuce and not the blend with red cabbage and dried out julienned carrot that comes in that particular bagged salad. There is a full bar and several large tv that were tuned in to various games. The bottled and tap beer selection was fairly small. There were a few different margaritas (including a Sangria Margarita) and other mixed drinks offered. We did not order drinks this time but we will likely do so on our next visit. There were ample servers bustling about and our table was checked on fairly frequently throughout our meal, just seldom enough to not be a bother. We were offered beverage refills as needed, and more chips and salsa when we ran low. The party at the booth next to ours ordered the fresh guacamole which was prepared table-side using fresh ingredients. The interior has very pleasant wall coverings, good blinds for that evening sun, and nicely upholstered chairs. This is a nice addition to the dining selections in Blaine.

Had a coupon for the newly opened San Jose Mexican Restaurant in Blaine, so went by for dinner. Had a terrific and delicious experience. They don't have an online menu so I can't look up the name of the entree I had, but I can describe it. It was a kind of mexican stew: chicken and pork cooked in a wonderful sauce together with green and yellow squash, mushrooms, cactus, and onions, and served in a huge "mini-kettle" bowl. The entree had mexican salad, rice, and beans on the side. Topped off with a great Margarita on the rocks, and a Negro Modelo draft beer, it was a very enjoyable dinner. I also want to give a shout out to our waiter Giovanni, whose efficiency and sense of fun (the guy's a hoot!) made dinner all the more pleasant.

Been waiting to try San Jose, left disappointed. The interior of the restaurant is very nice. Very comfortable seating, nice hostess. Seated at our table and waited over ten minutes before server arrived. Once there though, he was very friendly and engaging and service was great after that. Ordered a tap beer and it was about as flat as possible. The sodas had a strange taste like they were mixed. The chips and salsa were good. They also serve a ranch type sauce..... not a fan but kids liked it. The food was so-so. My tacos were cold, beef cold and hard shells soggy like they had been sitting in kitchen for a while. My tostada was the same way, except it looked more like a salad, with carrots. There were shredded carrots, with a lot of cabbage on the tostada and tacos. Didn't like the carrots, not expecting that. It was like it all came out of a prepared bag of salad. The beef tamale was ok. The chile relleno was pretty good. Nice spice to it. Not sure, but I'll probably wait a few months before coming back here and trying it again.

My Dad and I had been wanting to try this place out since we heard it had opened. On Sunday we decided to have lunch there. We got there a little after 11 am and the door was still locked despite the "OPEN" light being on. After a few moments a guy came over to unlock the door and opened it up for us. I said thank you but didn't get a response, not even a "welcome". He sat us at a booth and a waiter came by shortly and asked us if we wanted something to drink. No smile, no welcome. He had a stern look on his face and I thought he was going to chastise me for having my elbows on the table. My Dad, who is 82 and will talk to anyone, told him that this was our first time here. He responded with "that's good". Really? That's it? No welcome and I hope you enjoy it? Instead, he took our drink orders and then a blond waitress came by with some chips, salsa and a cold white dip. It wasn't a "sauce" like another reviewer had mentioned. Sauces are usually liquid, this was solid. She looked directly ahead the whole time, didn't smile or even look at us, let alone say "hi". Really? Since we came in here, we came in contact with 3 people (or zombies) and no one said "hi" or even smiled. When our waiter came back for our food order, we both decided to try a "pick your own" lunch plate. We had to repeat ourselves what we wanted 3 times before we thought he had it right, I guess having a pen and paper to write it down was too much trouble. The chips were cold, the salsa was bland and that white dip was cold and disgusting. Another reviewer had it right about the size of the salsa bowl and how little many chips it took before it emptied out. I had a burrito with shredded beef, a burrito with beef tips and a chicken quesadilla. The burritos had a bland tomato sauce with cheese topping and there was a side of beans and rice. The beans were more like soup they were so runny. I never had re-fried beans like that before. The burritos didn't have much flavor and when I looked down at my plate after eating them, I noticed a small pond of grease laced with curdled beef fat floating inside. Absolutely disgusting. My Dad had 2 burritos and a enchilada and his plate was the same. I decided to take my quesadilla to go after seeing it was lying in a orange puddle. I thought that maybe I could bake it again at home so it wouldn't be so soggy. Everything we had was bland. I don't care for a lot of spice or heat in my food but this was tasteless even by my standard. The only thing that was good was the rice. When we left, the guy at the register didn't even acknowledge us or say "thanks for coming". The whole time we were there, the wait staff spent more time looking out the window, probably wishing they were outside instead of serving us. You know, it's not like they were busy or anything and didn't have time to talk to us. Until our food was brought to us, we were the only ones in there. I could also see if all we did was complain or keep them running around for refills or anything that might make them not want us to be here. We didn't want any refills, we only asked once for more salsa and we didn't complain about the food. I will say that the decor was really nice inside, it's too bad that was the only thing that was nice. You know, they say you only have one chance to make a good first impression and San Jose, you blew it. You didn't welcome us, you didn't smile and the food was some of the worst "Mexican" we've ever had.

We stopped in on Friday night a few minutes after 8pm. We seated immediately, ordered drinks and an appetizer. Drinks were brought and we put down the chips and salsa which were fantastic. From there things got worse. The appetizer ordered was simply the 6 chicken strips with fries. We ordered dinner for myself, my wife and 2 kids at the same time we ordered the app. After About 30 minutes the server arrived with what can only be described as 'leftovers', the oversized plate had about 14 French fries and only 3 things that looked like chicken nuggets the size of a silver dollar. I said that does not look appetizing and to take it back. The waitress actually offered the excuse of 'well, it's what is left over from the rush and it's all we had'. Really??? She didn't offer to send it back and get it replaced. We continued to wait until about 9:20 for food to finally arrive. The food was good, I had simply ..hard shell beef tacos. My wife had a burrito of some kind, and the kids had taco dinners. I actually ordered the 3 tacos listed as sides, even pointed at it on the menu, but the server brought a plate of beans and rice, I was perplexed, and didn't confront her on it as I was already upset at the server for lack of detail refilling drinks and not refilling salsa and chips during the hour plus time waiting. We got the bill and realized that the server charged me $10.25 for the taco dinner plate not the $5.75 for just the three tacos. I just wanted to leave,at this point and not argue, I could tell my wife was unhappy and watching me get cranky was affecting the whole night. I really wanted to like this place. Good: salsa an chips, tacos were good. Atmosphere good. Bad: server wasn't great, didn't pay attention to detail, clearly needs customer service brush up. Not sure why everything took so long place was 20% full. Will I go back? 50/50. My expectation has lowered so now I know what I will have to do to get competent service.

We stopped in on 7-25-14. We were seated promptly we didn't see any help for approximately 15 minutes when our stressed waitress stopped by clearly this should have been our first clue we received drinks a little slowly so we put in our cheese dip and quesadilla order as my son was getting impatient. The waitress didn't stop back for at least another 20 minutes to take our order. After that we saw very few waiters or waitresses at all. I had to go back to the kitchen to find all them hiding to ask for more water. Shortly after that our waitress finally returned we asked when our food would be coming she responded with she honestly didn't know. We offered to pay for our drinks and kids meal that we actually received she declined. Really bad experience which is too bad the restaurant was nice the menu looked good. Hopefully San Jose can turn it around.

I love Mexican food especially authentically prepared Mexican food and that is exactly what your signing up for when you visit San Jose Mexican Restaurant; no Tex-Mex here. From the moment you step into this venue, you see the Mexico influence. Immediately, we were served chips with two types of salsa; the typical red salsa which was awesome and a white semi-sweet salsa which was good as well. We ordered two variations of Margaritas which tasted like any other Margarita one would get at a Mexican restaurant; nothing out of the ordinary there. My husband ordered the Choripollo; thinly sliced chicken breast with grounded chorizo sausage and served with beans and rice, nacho cheese and flour tortillas. My husband loved his meal. The hit of the evening was the Molcajete Jalisco I ordered. This dish has chunks of roasted pork, flat-iron steak, chicken and chorizo all grilled with mushrooms, chunks of zucchini, onion and nopal (cactus) strips all marinated in this incredible green sauce and covered with cheese. This dish is presented to your table in a sizzling traditional Molcajete stone grinding bowl...all this is accompanied with a side plate of beans, rice, salad topped with sour cream and hot flour tortillas. This dish was absolutely incredible, seasoned perfectly; the best I've ever had and easily served two people. We will absolutely revisit this restaurant and highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a true Mexican experience.

Don't bother. Terrible service and mediocre food (at best). Pastor pork was approximately 90% fat. Salsa bland. It was clean, so that is worth one star

Pretty disappointing. First the chips were okay, but they brought one very tiny cup of salsa that was gone after about 6 chips. I had seen in other reviews that there was also a white dip that other reviewers got, and I asked about that, and the waiter said they were out of an ingredient so they didn't have any. We were out of salsa for quite a while before they brought more, and we never got offered more chips. I ordered the Quesadilla Relleno which was supposed to be shredded beef. I asked for the lunch size at $7.25 and was told I had to get the dinner size for $9.25 (it was 4:30). The waiter said, "But the lunch and dinner are the same except for...." and then he stopped. I think he was going to say "the price" but thought better of it. When I got my dinner, it was ground beef, not shredded beef. I told the waiter, and he said if I don't like it, I can send it back. Um, I don't want to send it back because I don't like it, I want to send it back because it's not what I ordered. (Although I don't like ground beef either, that's beside the point! That's why I didn't order it!) So I did get the right thing the second time around. Now my complaint is, this is what I got for $9.25. Two 8 inch tortillas each folded over with about 3 ounces of shredded beef between the two of them, and a tablespoon or so of refried beans mixed with the beef, a small pile of plain lettuce mix, and about a tablespoon of sour cream. For $9.25. I really felt ripped off. I even left still a little hungry. And I didn't get a refill of my water, although my hubby got a refill of his club soda. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because my husband thought his dinner was quite tasty, the choripollo.

Pretty abysmal. This may well be the worst "Mexican" food I've tried, and I still eat at and enjoy some "inauthentic", Americanized chains like La Casita. But this place is plenty high on the phony "amigo, amigo" bravado and shtick while being plenty low on overall food quality and taste. I'm pretty sure it's the worst of its kind that I've ever tried, including the bland, greasy, tasteless chips and almost-as-marginal salsa--even below Don Pablo's and El Loro. In fact I've tried cardboard boxes with more flavor and better taste. It's as if they threw a frozen TV dinner in the microwave on high for 1 minute and then served it on a 400° plate. But the furniture and decore are quite nice, and the service all around was plenty good. Now they just need some food. And $7.50 for two items with equally-bland rice and beans for lunch is pretty ridiculous. I would not come back again for free but would easily take that $7.50 to Chipotle or something. But decide for yourself--I know people who have gone back time and again.

Very disappointed with our visit. Food was cold, service was slow, guacamole was inedible and margaritas were not fresh, but from a bottle.

Came here after the United FC Soccer Game. Never been to Blaine and searched for a Mexican place. Service - Excellent, didn't have to ask for more chips, or more refills. She just did it. Food came out fast. Food - My boyfriend did the make your own plate, and I did the Quesadilla San Jose. Don't be scared if it's quite since it's a big place.

The appetizers of chips, salsa, and ranch dip are tasty. A couple times we have encountered rancid chips and when we reported it to the waiter I believe they took the chips away and brought them back slightly warmed - still rancid. Today only one rancid chip encountered. The entrees are ok, but over priced for the quality. The tables and seats were not clean and we had to move 3 booths till there was a table without visible food product present or sticky or greasy. There are advertisements sent in local mailers and that print out at the local grocery with coupons for $5 off $30. Upon arrival we presented the coupon to the waitress and she stated that the coupons are not accepted on Fridays or Saturdays. The coupon had no such printed requirements and there were no documented signs indicating that the coupon was no longer accepted. Unfortunately, not a lot to recommend for this location.

I LOVED IT, SENORS AND SENORITAS ! After a few months off of YELP due to serious health issues, I am back and rarin' to go. Once again, food is my good friend! While this strip mall location is a little difficult to access, it is worth the effort. Once inside, the decor and furniture immediately puts you in a south of the border mood. I would suggest going here sooner than later, because I think it will be challenging to maintain the elaborate wood carved bar stools and booths. Very beautiful but not forever! I had a Sunday lunch here with family, and we all concurred that our meals were far above average. Pretty darn good for being thousands of miles from Mexico! We had the tableside guaq prepared , and I must say fresh guaq is certainly a welcome trend. Muchas Gracias. I had the Shredded Beef Chimichanga, which was mostly beef with a delightful cheese sauce on top. It came with a small portion of tasty refried beans, but a larger salad too. Most menu items have a "lunch size" or "dinner size" option, and I went with the lunch size. One daughter had lunch size enchiladas, and was satisfied. Other daughter and son in law inhaled their more authentic Mexican cuisine. Loved it Also tried their version of fried ice cream, and it was adequate.. My Watermelon Margarita on the other hand, not so good. I've had much better ones. If you order a large tap beer, you will be SET. Our server, a very handsome young man of Latin decent was superb. All the attention we needed, both from him and other employees, was seen to. So I can rate the service as perfect for our needs. Politeness was premier. SO IN A MARACA SHELL - A DELISH MEAL IN A LOVELY SETTING

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
