Sometimes the regulars/locals in the bar get a bit too rowdy at this location, especially if there is a soccer match on in the bar. As far as "mexican food" goes, this chain is about as Mexican as sushi is Japanese at Cub Foods. Exactly, only the same in name and form. The only time we ever go here is if we have a craving for their cheese dip and that is a rare thing. If you are dying for a burrito and don't really care if it tastes like a burrito, you'll do fine. Or do like we do, sit in the bar and have some chips and queso with their $5 house maragritas on Tuesday nights.

First off; our server, Alex was excellent! Very nice, attentive, just a real pleasure and really took care of our party of 8 complete with a birthday dessert and candle! Not sure if all of the Acapulco's have the same menu. This one seemed to differ from the one that we are used to at our regular location. Maybe they have all changed their menu's. Not sure since it has been awhile since we've been at one. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. The burritos were huge! I ordered the fajita burrito with steak. It was pretty good, but I've had better. Rice was ok. For a party of 8 the food came out very fast. We all were surprised by how quickly it came. This location is kind of a pain to get to, but that could be me missing the main exit. I had to go a ways up to a light and take a back service road in. Even then I picked the wrong entrance and would up walking across the lawn to the restaurant parking lot. Not a huge biggie.

I don't remember ever leaving Blaine satisfied with my dinner...or sober...but Acapulco was not bad (3.5 stars)...wait, I drank 3 beers and margheritia. doh. Chips & Salsa...check...good start Friend recommended the famous cheese dip...light colored rich cheese...delicious and taste good with everything... Got the seafood chimichanga...pretty good...crispy and loaded with different kinds of seafood...(only pet peeve in restaurants is when they say crab, and mean imitation crab meat) Got a beef hard taco with some extra pico de gallo...good, but just ok... Wife got the carnitas dinner...pretty decent fried pork. I don't think this is authentic, but is it good and fun? Totally dude.

I got exactly what I expected, so I really can't complain about my meal here. A dinner for three with the madre and padre was well rounded out. The margarita was really lime-y, not my favorite if I must... I was really hoping for more tequila flavor in it instead of them doing a shot pour of EXACTLY one shot of tequila. Also, holy salt! I don't put salt IN my margarita, I put it on the rim of the glass in case I need some. My fajita burrito was in desperate need of seasoning for the meat. I mean literally, the chicken didn't even taste like chicken, seriously. The veggies in it were a little overdone, but they did give me extra queso for the top which definitely made up for lost flavor. I don't know what my family members got, but they were noticeably more pleased than I was. All in all, this is a very chain style restaurant. It is not fresh, it isn't fast, it also isn't authentic. You get what you pay for as they say.

This place has Chi Chi's Mexican food. If you're willing to drive down to Lake Street in Minneapolis or Robert Street in St Paul, you can have real Mexican food. But if you want a gallon of margarita and some white cheese and tortillas without a drive, this is your place. I would avoid the carnitas if you enjoy the dish--they're not crusty in the slightest and that is a disappointment. Also, warning: they sometimes have a "band," at least at the Coon Rapids location.

Decent Mexican food. The only thing that isn't decent is the location. It's right off Central Ave, but not really since you can't get to it from that side. Just when you think you got there, you realize that the parking lot from the motel doesn't connect over. Anyways, $4 liter mug beers are always a novelty. And not just the basic domestic stuff either, a liter of Dos Equis for $4 is pretty good I think. I love the guacamole here, it's fantastic. All the chips and salsa you can eat. I had a wet burrito ($9.95) and that was pretty tasty as well. I'm a fan.

Quiet Sunday night. I stood at the forum waiting to be seated till a kindly waitress noticed me and took me to a pleasant booth. The waiter asked for my drink order, reappeared long enough to deliver it, then was gone again. About the time I finished the taco chips and the tall beer he was finally back so I was able to order. Food was so-so at best -- when a "Mexican" restaurant serves "guacamole" that's a greenish-gray paste, you know it isn't a good sign, and it wasn't. Finished eating, waited and waited for my check, finally snagged the waiter long enough to get it. He tossed it on the table and fled. "Please pay your server." Great. Waited, waited, waited (and remember, this is Sunday and the place is only about 1/4 full) until finally I was able to catch a nice waitress from an adjacent table, actually the one who had seated me, and she went and got my check for me. She got a much better tip than the "waiter." I wouldn't go back there.

I like this place, almost always getting the chimichangas. Very good for a reasonable price. That being said, if I stray from this menu item, I am often dissapointed. The other food option I have liked is the items on the combination menu are quite good. Oh, and cheap beer! Huge beers for $4. Can't beat that.

It's just OK. They were friendly, but the food was just OK. The management and chef should visit Boca Chica to get their bearings. The place has friendly staff, it wasn't BAD, but it just wasn't that good.

It's not just about food when you eat out. If the ambience is cold it doesn't matter whether the food is really good or not. I can cook good food at home but when I go out to eat at 6:30-7:30 on a Friday night I want an atmosphere; it may be I want something subdued or I want loud either way I want ambience. So Acapulco: OK Menu selections;big portions; our wait person was friendly; the food came quickly....but when it comes to ambience it's- nada. The place caters to families, friends, couples (young and old), it is definitely not pretenious. If you want quick, reasonably priced OK mexican food then this will do.

They made my mothers Birthday one she will never forget. Mexican flag for a drink and mariachi band to get her dancing. Very reasonable, good taste and lots of variety. I wish I lived a little closer b/c those picture frozen margaritas would be a lot of fun.

I like Acapulco. Second one I have been to located in a strip mall you walk in and it's quite a bit more inside than from the outside, pretty well packed around 4:30pm on Saturday given the economy/consumer confidence. We had a party of 9 but, were seated within a few minutes. They have great chips and salsa, iced tea is also good. Quite the menu, I did not get a chance to spend more than a few minutes browsing it quickly picking out the first thing I run across, the Beef Chimi's. It's served with two beef Chimichangas shredded lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. Their famous cheese sauce is poured over the Chimi's, I did'nt read the menu closely enough, you don't pour a cheese over a fried food it must be dipped. I would see if you could get the cheese sauce on the side. The side guac was a pitiful little dibble with a think single slice of tomato and shredded lettuce. I really can't rate the guac their was so little of it I was unable to sample it. The cheese sauce was not bad, I would have rather dipped the Chimi's in some kind of sauce with flavor, sweet, hot, zesty, something, probably not the slightly bland cheese, maybe fine for dipping but, serving them as is they get soggy and why order soggy fried food if your going to take the hit it better be perfect. Don't take this wrong, I saw some great food here, the chips and salsa were great. Take a crack at getting the cheese sauce on the side (keep the chimi's crispy), also see if you can get another sauce or two on the side or be creative. I want to try some more menu selections here.

I went here b/c I was waiting for my car to get fixed at a near by auto store. Anyway, I ordered the seafood chimis b/c that's usually my fav and my boyfriend ordered the enchiladas which are his faves. Sorry to say the only thing we enjoyed were our margaritas and the free chips and salsa. I don't care how busy a restaurant is there is no excuse for cold or dried out food or inattentive service. My food was so gross I did not want anything else out of their kitchen. BOO to you Acapulco, next time I go get my car fixed at that auto place, I will wait there or at the Subway sandwich shop a few doors down.

I have to say definately a good place to eat. Now, just so you konw I tend to eat just about anything, however I do critic everything because I'm a trained chef as well, so I definately have to like something to give it more than 3 stars. Me and a friend got there about 7pm on Sunday night and there were definately more people out than I thought there'd be but the restaurant did have themselves staffed accordingly, which is always a good thing. We'd started out with their free chips and salsa which goes to every table. The salsa was a very good mild salsa, which I'm okay with but my friend likes it spicy. So, it was great if you like things milder. When we ordered, I decided to order a side of the Chori Queso Dip. This stuff was very tasty. It had enough of the chorizo flavor but not clumpy with unmelted cheese or meet. My friend ordered the Seafood Chimichangas & I ordered the Tequila Cream Mole Enchiladas. Now if you are going for overall plate appeal and looks of the dish, the seafood chimichangas are the way to go. My friend said she loved them. I loved the Enchiladas, however, if you are not used to mole you might not like the sight because mole is a brown sauce so it does look good, but the flavor was great. I would definately recommend the Mole Enchiladas. Drinks, well even though we didn't do a ton of drinking I thought all their prices on drinks were well within reason and actually the Long Island Ice Tea I had was the cheapiest I've ever had, so definately like that part of the bill. Our service was good, I think our servers name was Angela but I can't quite remember. Whatever the case is, definately love the service & food and would recommend it to other's to try and see for themselves.

My favorite Mexican restaurant ever. I was a regular when I lived in MN and now I make sure to get there every time I'm back in town. First of all, let me do a review from my pre-vegan days: Their chips and salsa are incredible - fresh and homemade. But throw in some queso - HOLY CRAP. Best cheese dip ever - so good. I also always used to order the chicken chimichangas. If you like eating animal flesh, this is as good as it gets. Now-a-days, as a vegan, I binge on chips and salsa, then order the Acapulco Grilled Chicken Salad with no chicken and no cheese. Sounds awesome, right? Surprisingly, it's still delish! With some pico de gallo and guacamole on top, it's a tasty little salad. But the REAL entree is the chips/salsa. :) The best part is the price. It's really affordable and great for kids, large parties and everything in between.

Love the chips n salsa, cheese sauce, chimis, shrimp fajitas, pork carnitas tacos and strawberry flautas. They also have awesome big beers at a great price - 32oz. for less than $4. Mariachi music at night on the weekends - it can be a bit noisy and annoying, but also kind of fun.

The chimichangas are what I always get, and acapulco has some great ones. I recommend the chicken. They have a tasty cheesy sauce that they put on top. The only thing is, the rice they give you on the platter is tasteless and has corn in it, which I don't like. The chips are really tasty though, and they serve pepsi products, which means you can get mt dew with your lunch!

Disclaimer: This rating is boosted due to proximity. If I did not actually live within biking distance, my rating would be dampened to three stars. That said, I live in Blaine, so... This place is a staple. There really isn't anything negative you can say about this place...except for maybe the entry. It's difficult to discern the entrance to the small strip in which it lies versus the entrance to the fast food restaurant next door. Driveway confusion aside, this place has solid Mexican food (for someone who wouldn't know authentic Mexican food if it threw a sombrero on her and set her mouth on fire) at a great price. And I will actually go so far as to wager that you will NOT get food served faster at any non-fast-food restaurant. Anywhere. Ever. The ingredients are always fresh, which is amazing considering how fast they come out. However, as a relatively non-meat-eating patron, I routinely return to the same staples. I frequent the seafood chimichanga (probably the LEAST healthy thing on the menu, but OH SO GOOD!) and the bean tostada (one of the few veggie options on the 'Creative Combination' menu). I have mad respect for anyone that can finish their entire meal - they provide an ample serving size of refried beans and rice with each meal. I am NOT a refried beans fan. (The name alone makes me think of food that's already been eaten and the appearance doesn't do much to dissuade the thought.) Acapulco is honestly the only restaurant where I will be seen eating this stuff in public. This is the only location that I have experienced, but there are also locations in Coon Rapids, Maplewood, New Brighton, Stillwater, Woodbury, Ramsey and one coming soon in Ham Lake. So if you happen to find yourself in one of those suburbs with a hankering for some Mexican, I would highly recommend giving it a shot!

Disappointing! Salsa was very tomato-pastey, chips stale, and our meals were average. Wait staff was average. I was brought the wrong food, and was served correctly after my party was nearly finished with their meals. My meal or drink was not comped, and the waitress didn't seem in much of a hurry to fix the problem. There was not much to be excited about here. Will not return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
