Wow. Raapers. Much food. Such beer. Many choices. But seriously....I'm glad this is my 150th review, this place is awesome. We were recommended it by a local (who happened to be lucky enough to cut my hair earlier). It's a pretty nice, typical bar atmoshphere inside. A little patio outback with two or three tables when it's nice, but you just have a view of the parking lot. The back area with the bar is nice, they have pull tabs, and a lot of TVs and seating. Tap selection. Amazing. I could have come here every day of the week we stayed up here and not tried all the beers they have. I did see one listed as their own but failed to try it....Great selection from Minnesota and the surrounding areas. Not to mention when I ordered one it came in a liter mug. Talk about a beer! I got a 2XIPA that was 9% ABV. 'Murica Food. Amazing. Our burgers blew anywhere else here out of the water. Pretzel buns, thick patties, and bloomin onions. The Blooming Onion burger was amazing looking. I got the A1 burger but I found only a drop or 2 of A1 on it....Whatever, that giant beer helped with it. Fries were fantastic, and the service couldn't have been better. Prices are even lower than places we got worse food at. I wish I had a Raapers here......

Excellent place for lunch. It was my first visit the salad bar was great, the tortilla soup was awesome and the chili was good. They have excellent wi-fi.

First-time visit for lunch. It was a pretty sedate lunch crowd, many empty tables. Our server was pretty responsive, though not really much for smiles or personality. But hey, we're there for the food. We came on burger special day, and it was a lot of food for the money. The "fries" were unique and tasty, apparently called sidewinders, which are a cross between a steak fry and a curly fry. There was a big selection of burgers with all sorts of toppings. I was a little disappointed with the burger though - the burger was very well done, kinda dry and flavorless. Having all the toppings doesn't really mask a so-so burger. My burger-loving husband was 'meh' about his burger too - mostly because he didn't realize it came on a pretzel bun and he's not a fan. That nice toasted pretzel bun was one of the things I liked. There was a small salad and soup bar off to the side of the room for an extra charge. Love having that option, but the portions were so generous, I'm glad I didn't try to pack that in too. Overall, great value, decent but not earth shattering food. I don't regret going there, but next time I'm passing through Alexandria, I'd probably try another option.

Sat-noon. One server. Walked out after a half hour along with at least four other customers. Too bad

Great happy hour, but horrible bartender with no personality and only one speed. We ordered the combo appetizer and it came out soggy and luke warm. Was expecting so much more and was really disappointed.

Fun place, with three distinct dining areas. If you come in the front door, you'll see a typical dining area with tables, and a bar in back. If you come in the back door, you'll find a bar area, with games, and many high top tables. Go through the main dining room and head to the basement if it's open for my favorite part of Raapers. Brick lined walls, dart boards, a pool table, and tables and chairs that I'm sure have been there since 1965! Great atmosphere! The food is pretty good. I've had the $6.99 rib special on Wednesday night - it's a ton of food- the ribs were a little fatty for my taste, but the fries were top notch and HOT, the slaw was pretty average. On Tuesday night they have Taco Tuesday, and also $6 1/2lb big mouth burgers. I got the Big Mouth Burger with onion strings - can't remember the exact name- my friend and I burst out laughing when the bartender brought it out. It was ten inches tall! Good stuff! This is a good restaurant for kids and adults- friendly staff, good service.

I have driven by this place for years and finally checked it out last night. What an exciting little find in Alexandria -yay! I expected it to be a small bar but to our surprise it has 3 separate big rooms. We had a beer upstairs in the main dining area, oh yes, and it was 2 for 1 at 6:30 on a Sat night!! Kool! We then went in the basement to play some pool and rock out on the jukebox a while. Another cool bar in the basement with a great assortment of tap beers, dart board, nice big flat screen to watch the Twins on, and a super friendly bartender. We were both blown away how quant this place is and plan on going back for dinner and more pool and beers!

Great food. After many visits highly recommend O'Callahan Burger, Walleye Sandwich, quesadillas, Pastas are good too. Only neg is the terrible boneless wings - we each had Buffalo which were heavily sauced and we didn't eat them. Waitress only charged for one- thanks - lesson learned. Soup and salad bar is great as is Bloody Mary special on Saturday mornings. Overall great the best bar food best in Alex. Great happy hours and free popcorn. Highly recommend. Good service too!!

This place is okay to go in and have a cold one, but I would suggest trying one of the other bad and grills in Alexandria if you're looking for a good meal.

Went here on two occasions. Tuesday is their "$6 Big Mouth Burgers" day. And they have a rather extensive list of available burgers from which to choose. I ended up with a mouth watering (and very filling!) Big Olie... which comes with a 1/2lb thick ass burger, cheese and a fried egg!!! Holy crap that bad boy rocked! I did add an extra patty to it, so that burger weighed in at over 1.25lbs of artery clogging fun! Meat, cheese and egg! A cardiologists best friend (for business referrals that is!) It also comes with a large portion of thick wedge like fries. That night my friends and I got there in time for the two-for-one happy hour. And stayed there long enough for the OTHER two-for-one happy hour. Now, depending on your server and just how well you "take care of those who take care of you" your drink may be stout and perfect or blah and lame. We had a dude taking care of us (Justin?) and he made sure we were well taken care of. Example? Well, on one rare occasion, some chick (covering for Justin for a moment) poured our drinks... weak!!! I nonchalantly mentioned this to Justin and how lame the drinks were. He promptly came by with a glass filled 3/4s of the way with rum and topped both of my glasses off... gratis! Had an excellent time on this Tuesday night. Not a lot of people but just busy enough to have great people watching opps. Now, Fridays are a different story. It can get very crowded. And on this night (as I assume is usually the case) it was mostly locals where everyone knows nearly everyone. Younger crowd (but still diverse enough for the older crowd to enjoy) and some decent eye candy (just putting that out there!). It seems that there is actually a club/section downstairs as well, but I didn't check it out. So, in short... not a bad place. I'd would more than happily return to clog an artery some more with my new friends in Alex.

This appears to be a place catering to the locals in a resort town. My rating is based on comparisons with places with equally limited pretensions. It does a damn good job at what it does. My wife and I pulled into Alexandria to our time-share swap after a four-hour Saturday drive from Okoboji, Iowa. On the way through town, we noticed a big FOOD AND ALE sign on RAAPERS. We decided that was the way to go and came back as soon as we were in our unit. As we went in, there was a $12.99 prime rib special sign. I got an Old Fashioned, rye if you have it, otherwise bourbon. It was bourbon, tasty and a solid pour. Worth the $7 I was charged. There is an extensive beer assortment, both tap and bottle. They have pint and quart tap beer. I had Bell's Two-hearted Ale, and she had NordEast. We ordered the prime rib "rare" and "as rare as I could get". The waitress was dubious about how rare I could get the "slow-roasted prime rib" It came with baked potato as a choice, and a soup/salad bar. Three soups: clam chowder, chicken noodle, french onion; big bowls of iceburg or mixed lettuce, the standard top-ons. The blue cheese dressing had huge chunks in it. Good-oh! When the entree came, it was two huge slabs of beef, a finger-breadth thick, and I have big fingers. They were served on ridged grill pans, and were both well-done. When we cut into it, by tenderness, I'd guess the meat was "Select" grade. The flavor was good, they provided sour cream for the potatoes and jus to pour over the meat and potato if we liked. . The room was a pleasant bar with tables, one of the three rooms in the restaurant. I would have happily given them five stars if the beef had been rare. I really liked the place. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I came in with my wife a few days later; got the onion burger. WOW, bacon, cheese, a half pound patty, and a haystack of delicious breaded onion slivers about six inches high, held together in the bun with a skewer along with a quart mug of ale. The best tater tots I've ever had; crunchy outside, good inside. I raked off about four inches of the onions, inhaled the burger and beer, and took most of the onions and the potatoes home. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

I never want to go back here ever again. It's tiny tiny tiny! It's also crowded. I would have felt better about all of this if the lights were dimmed a little and/or the music was turned up louder. I could hardly hear the music and the room was lit up like a house. It was. so. weird. Also, I ordered two jack and cokes (for the price of one - that was the only good thing) but I got two jack and (diet) cokes... uh... what? GROSSSSS!!!! it was disgusting. The server could have said, uh, we are out of coke, would you like diet coke or a different drink? I wish he had because I would have said 'a different drink please'. Then I would have been able to drink both of my drinks. Instead I had to literally forced myself to drink one and had a friend drink the other.

Raapers has awesome food and a fantastic 2 for 1 happy hour special. Best breakfast in Alexandria. Order an omelette. Order a burger for lunch. Favorite downtown hangout for the KSAX-TV news reporters after work.
