It's nice to see a Mexican restaurant in downtown Wixom however I can't say I'll be back. As others have mentioned, the price is right and the 'street tacos' aren't bad but some of the details that make a Mexican restaurant authentically delicious are not there. Here is my critique: 1.) severely understaffed (thus, the big 'HELP WANTED' sign written in hand with all capital letters). 2.) a good wipe down would do the place some good. I sat at the seat closest to the window and put my purse down on the window ledge. Big mistake! There were some dried cob webs and sun struck bugs. Our menus were also very dirty with crumbs stuck in the cloth creases and splashes of dried salsa on another page. Also, we noticed what looked like egg yolk or some other sort of splashed food condiment on the wall closest to us. 3.) chips were very greasy (the paper underneath them was soaked), flavorless and the salsa tasted like puréed tomatoes with vinegar. Neither chip nor salsa had any remnants of Mexican 'sabor'. So, although the idea of having some variety in downtown Wixom is a plus, I'll have to wait until some of their issues are taken care of before returning.

Stopped here for dinner on a Friday night. The service was friendly and fast... But the food left a lot to be desired. The food is very Americanized, I had the nachos but I swear they put Colby Jack cheese on them. No beans or rice on the side, more like a plate your mom would make at home. Maybe I chose the wrong menu item to try. I was looking forward to trying this place but not sure I'll give it another go.

Great food, the prices were amazing and the service was great. Only negative was they do not serve alcohol, so no margaritas.

This restaurant is my one of favorite places to eat. The price is reasonable You can try the real Mexican food here! I like tacos! I recommend to everyone:)

Awesome little place off of Pontiac Trail - we're in town from a Grand Rapids for a soccer tournament and wanted something authentic and tasty - think Tacos El Cunard from the downtown market as a comparison (but prices are $1.50 to $2.00 each). The tacos here are legit: tripe, lamb, beef tongue and all the usual chicken, pork and carne asada options. Super tasty corn tortillas, doubled up to keep all the good stuff from falling out. Wife had the chicken tostada and was equally impressed. No frills, not over-salted and got busy in a hurry after noon on Sunday. They even serve corn on the cobb in season, with lime and Mexican cheese...yikes. Make it one of your secret favorites when you're on the East side of Michigan.

This place is a little hidden treasure! I'm not really a fan of Mexican food, so when a friend mentioned it to me I resisted for a little while; but I finally caved and went for lunch one day and I can't wait to go back. It's a really small restaurant and there is only one waitress who handles the whole place, so don't expect a very quick meal. The tacos are my favorite, especially the chorizo one and the one with beef tongue. I've also had a Gordita, which was nice but not as good as the tacos. My friend loves their horchata and always gets a Vege burrito which isn't really on the menu but she is very accommodating. One day soon I will try the desserts, I keep intending to but always get greedy and order one too many tacos.

Delicious. Food took a while longer than we were hoping but unlike the other "fake" mexican restaurants this was very authentic and fresh.

Not only is this my favorite Mexican restaurant in Northwestern greater Detroit, this is probably my favorite restaurant in Northwestern greater Detroit. My wife and I go at least once a month. The place is small (which has stopped me from writing a review because I'm scared it will get packed as their reputation grows- which I already kind of see happening), and yes it is kind of a hole in the wall, so it doesn't have that large restaurant polish (which is actually kind of a plus for me), and yes their chips aren't great and come out stale sometimes, but I love it and I had to share it. It has authentic Mexican food. Some might not like it if they're after American-Mexican like fajitas or rice and beans combo-platters, etc. as that's not really their strong point. But they have a wide variety of taqueria style tacos, quesadillas, tortas, with a wide variety of preparations, including things you can't find at inauthentic joints like lengua, barbacacao lamb, etc. I'm not sure how people think the portions are small are the place isn't cheap. Tacos are like $1.75. We always end up ordering way too much picking a variety of things, and I'm always amazed when our bill comes in under $20 for two. Very highly recommended to people after the authentic stuff. Just don't take our table.

Local family restaurant on Wixom's main street, on Pontiac Trail. Smaller menu, but good prices. Limit seating, it's a small place sandwich between a Dairy Queen and a 7-11. Stay on your toes, you might miss it. No alcohol license. They serve a couple levels of salsa heat, from Michigan mild to hot. The pork tacos were good, nice and spicy.

The best Mexican food in the Detroit area. The place had a steady stream of Latinos either eating in or picking up takeout. The prices were great! The tacos are very tasty, nicely spiced, Tinga Chicken was particularly good. The gorditas are also very good. Definitely worth another visit.

Can't go wrong here. Every item is great. Try the corn on the cob and the Azteca ate.

Never thought I'd see a Mexican restaurant this authentic in little ol' Wixom. I've been living in Houston for 2 years and have yet to find one as authentic as La Casita. Really good pico too!

  • Becca B.

Best AUTHENTIC Mexican food I've had in years! Trust me, this isn't your average, disappointing Tex Mex slop you've grown accustomed to. We go here at least once a week! Pro tip: order the horchata as your drink. You won't regret it.

Went and had take out from here yesterday. Food was awesome and inexpensive! Try the chorizoqueso and the quesadilla with pork and jalapenos! Keep up the good work!

I haven't tasted a taco with flavor this authentic since I ate the real deal in Mexico!! Very affordable and so delicious! I have had a few other items on the menu, but don't think they taste as authentic or as good as the tacos. So I'll probably be sticking with those! Their tres leeches cake is also good.

Strip mall Mexican that tastes like it. Very bland and boring. The menu is hard to understand and they have more items on a white board off to the side. No explanation of anything from the waitress. Didnt ask if we had questions. I asked questions about the menu and was given short useless answers. Burrito King is a mile away and 1000 times better in every way. I am not sure how this place is in business or why anyone would go there more than once. My only guess is country white people who want to tell their friends they eat ethnic food but only want food that tastes like their TV dinner.

  • Casey B.

Yuck yuck yuck. The beans were decent and so was the pico. The smell of the asada and the taste is just horrible. The meat was bland. When I think "asada" I think grilled meat. Their meat wasn't grilled, it tasted like it almost boiled. Wait did I mention the smell? Yuck. The rice wasn't seasoned either. I make better Mexican. Never again will I come here

One of my favorite lunch spots. The food is authentic Mexican food and although the place is small, it's food is delicious! Sometimes there is no room at lunch time to sit down but their service is so fast, we don't mind waiting the extra ten minutes for someone to leave. Green salsa is my favorite and I haven't had anything bad to eat here. The staff is always nice and I've took at least 20 different coworkers or out of town customers here and not one complaint YET! Yummy

  • Shawna B.

First off great salsa. Had the chicken burrito lunch special - very fresh with onions and cooked in a red sauce. Cutie side garnish of fresh tomatoes, guac and sour cream served on a little lettuce leaf cup. Refried beans excellent (and I'm picky about those.) Very casual atmosphere (plastic tablecloths, bar like decorations/posters for decor) and tiny tables but the nicest waitress who was taking care of the entire place and making it look easy!

REALLY good, especially the chilaquiles. Ask for the hot sauce (salsa piquanté) and you're gonna be happy!

There is a huge difference between Tex-Mex (think On the Border) and authentic Mexican food. Though both are delicious - having studied abroad in Mexico, I am a HUGE fan of the authentic type. Before moving to the Commerce area my husband and I lived in Wixom. About three years ago we stumbled across La Casita and have been eating our way through their delicious menu ever since. Though we have tried MANY items our personal fav is the carne asada tacos topped with onions, cilantro and their homemade salsa. The menu is full of dishes I haven't seen since moving back from Mexico! Authentic chilaquiles, pambazos and my personal favorite - Mexican bottled Diet Coke! The prices are AMAZING!!!! Tacos are about $1.50 and quesadillas are $1.75 - every time we dine here our bill is under $20. La Casita reminds me of a classic neighborhood taqueria. The entire restaurant seats about 25, the servers are welcoming and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are in someones cozy kitchen south of the boarder.

The good: taqueria-style carne asada ("street style") tacos; free parking in back. The bad: chips (had a dusting of seasoning, like Doritos, but not as strong...definitely not home made); weak salsa; bland rice and beans; no combination plates on the menu. We will come here again for the tacos (at about $1.70 each, it is a bargain), but not for the other stuff. You can find the usual dishes (burritos, enchiladas, etc.) at so many places nowadays, and with Waterford just a short distance away, this place needs a way to distinguish their food from the others.

  • Jen D.

Got takeout tonight for the first time at Taqueria La Casita and it was awesome! The food seemed truly authentic and homemade. The carne asada tacos were delicious, with fresh cilantro and diced onions, as were the quesadillas. I was just so-so on the picadillo Pambazo. I thought it was a little bland. The bread was fresh and soft, but it just seemed ho-hum. We live in Commerce and have been looking for some tasty mexican food. We will definitely be back. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!!

I must say this is one of the cutest little friendly restaurant I've been to! The waitress was so sweet and friendly and very smiley. She was patient with my kids when they couldn't decide what they wanted haha. Chimichanga yum! Kids got a soft taco and a quesadilla! Wonderful place!

  • Jessica G.

Food was okay, but not the best little authentic Mexican restaurant I've visited. Restaurant was full, take out orders came in and out constantly and they were severely understaffed. After waiting so long for menus and actually placing our order, then a really long wait for food and beverages, we were hoping for a more flavorful meal...disappointing.

Small place, usual Mexican food....was recommended by a friend. Had the burrito of course....nothing to make me stop in again. Daughter had the soft corn tortilla tacos and enjoyed them.

Excellent quesadillas, great authentic menu and all this coming from a Mexican who knows what mexican food is all about. A definite keeper!!

We have gotten carryout four times now and each time has been excellent. The Mexican tacos are great, especially with some of the salsas they give you. Everything tastes very freshly made and truly authentic. I think if you stick with the Mexican dishes especially you will be happy eating here.

This is one of our favorite places to dine out at. I wouldn't say this is the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had, but it's far better than some places I've been to that charge double or triple the price that this place does. I also must add that we've had some really good Mexican food and this would be third on my list. Only one other place in Michigan has better tacos and that's a place in Pontiac. The best tacos I've ever had was in Las Vegas. Neither of the other places are easily accessible which makes this Mexican place the best in the area. My favorite is their pastor tacos and quasedillas sp? with corn shells.

Went here again for second time this month. Food is just amazing! Some of theee best chicken enchiladas. Green or red sauce offered which makes it more yummy. Phenomenal tres leches cake for dessert. Lunch time had a line out the door on a Friday! Very limited seating. Again, excellent food.

I've been here a few times and food is usually good. This time I decided to order Steak Fajitas and wasn't to impressed. It was piled high but it was all green peppers and onions barely any steak.

My Fiance and I went here on Cinco de Mayo. Overall I am definitely a fan.I loved most of my life in Colorado and Utah where good Mexican food is easy to find and I've had a hard time in Michigan finding great places Good: I had the Aztec Platter which was a bunch of stuff in a molcajete, with the hot salsa. It was just awesome. The meats were all well seasoned and delicious (steak, chicken, and picadillo). and I haven't had nopales in forever. The only issue was I ate so much I made myself sick! My Fiance got a burrito and said it was tasty and the rice was pretty good. After dinner we had some fried ice cream. I'm not big on sweets but my fiance loved it and fried ice cream is one of her top desserts so good there. Service was pretty quick considering how busy they were but could have been faster Bad: Fairly small location. It's probably not an issue normally but it was super busy for the holiday. Regarding food, the salsa brought out with our chips was super mild. No real spice at all, my fiance doesn't like spicy stuff and liked it but it would have been nice to get a hot and a mild or something. Also the re-fried beans were very meh. they weren't bad, they were just bland, needed a bit of salt I think. Overall, a great place. We'll definitely be going back.

I'm not quite sure what "authentic Mexican" food is, but the food at La Casita seems pretty authentic. Let's just say it's not your typical Taco Bell tacos and is much better than El Nibble Nook a few miles down the road. The tacos are my favorite served as a soft style--although not on the thin, store bought tortillas. There's plenty to choose from including a single taco (lots of filling choices) to full meals and combos. If you're not sure, start with the tacos with charizo with cilantro and lime. I also ordered tamales which aren't on the menu but they made them anyway. Chips and salsa are brought when you sit down. The fresh ingredients really liven up all the dishes.

The food was good! My husband and I tried out this place because of the great reviews. We both had Beef Burittos and it came with rice and beans and was on special for that day.

I like what Roger Ebert said about movies. "It's not what a movie is about, but how it is about it." Meaning that a movie should be primarily judged by what it is trying to accomplish. I feel the same way about restaurants. I think a corner diner should be worthy of 5 stars just as much as a Michelin restaurant if they are exceptional at what they do. And my reviews are getting redundant because a.) I love Mexican food b.) I've been getting suggestions from Yelp because who wants to eat badly? and c.) well, I'm kind of broke. In any case, stopped in the other day and had tacos, because that's basically my sampler dish at a Mexican place. Pastor-flavorful and tender, not too fatty. Nicely stuffed and with the traditional onion, cilantro and squirt of lime. Chorizo-very nicely flavored, although not as spicy as some. In fairness, not nearly as greasy as some either. Beans-fairly loose consistency, although also in fairness this seems to be more authentic than what American's are used to from a can or Taco Bell, and topped with a little onion and queso fresco, not cheddar. Good flavor. All in all, I'll be back. It was slightly more expensive than a couple of the other places I've been lately, but still below $7 with an iced tea, so that's kind of a nitpick. I'm just excited to see more of these authentic little places pop up around the burbs.

Having moved far from our previous residence close to Detroit, we were worried we wouldn't find authentic Mexican food this far west. We are soooo glad we found this place!! The food here is very flavorful and you can find a lot of the more authentic Mexican dishes here. When you are seated the chips and salsa are just average. One other Yelper noted watery mild salsa and I somewhat agree. The chips are not the light and airy type which I like the most. I had 3 tacos...al pastor (marinated pork), carnitas (roasted pork), and asada (grilled steak). All the meats were very flavorful. My only complaint was the asada was good but not the best I've had. My DH had the special, Azteca dish which was served in a large heavy heated stone bowl with sliced grilled beef steak, sliced grilled chicken, some type of chorizo hash (which was amazing...not too salty...I could eat a bowl of this with rice), grilled cactus slices and a green salsa heated in the middle. Everything in this dish was really good. We are making this our go-to Mexican place from here on out.

I had the chance to live in Mexico for 3 years. The experience of eating in LA Casita is one of the most horrible experiences in any restaurant. The atmosphere is not really nice, but food was aweful and service was as bad. We ordered a Guacamole, tacos and drinks. Guacamole was souer and felt like it was sitting in the fridge for at least a week, Drinks were Very very sweet and tacos were just Ok. Food arrive after45 min of wait and after the staff decided to have lunch. Its a nono for us.

My wife and I have driven by this little hole in the wall restaurant several times and only recently thought about it when we received coupons in the mail. We went over for early Friday dinner. Unfortunately the coupons were only good M-Th but I wanted to try them out anyway for sit down dinner. Parking is crappy. Can only park in one direction from Pontiac Trail. Tried to drive in back but although there is parking there, the Entrance is in front on the street. The place is tiny - i dont think I saw more than 8 tables. There was what sounded like Mexican Opera over a speaker and 2 large screen TV's set to mute showing CNN. There was one table of 4 or 5 people in one corner all speaking what sounded like Spanish. Only one Waitress as far as we could tell. We sat there for a couple mins and the lady walked by asked what we would like to drink. My wife asked for coca-cola and I saw they had Jarritos. I opted for the Limon as I've never had one before. A minute late they gave us a small bowl of tortilla chips and salsa. the Salsa was very mild almost watery. the Chips tasted like they were seasoned with seasoning salt and they were not fresh or home made. that was a let down for me. I expected a little "AUTHENTIC" mexican joint to have fresh home made chips. The menu seems limited there is not much in the way of combos but they do have some interesting options. I wanted to try a little bit of everything but wasn't sure what to go for. My wife ordered a Beef Chimichanga Dinner which came with Guacamole, Rice and refried Beans. I ended up ordering 2 Tacos Al Pastor ( roasted marinated pork) and 2 Tacos Carne Asada (grilled steak) and I wanted to try a Quesadilla - I opted for the Pork with Spicy peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese. Another couple had come in and sat down to eat, both of them looked Mexican and spoke spanish. and then another customer a mexican guy sat down at the table behind us. I was hopeful that this meant the food was AUTHENTIC enough. One small problem for us though was they were slow. And the One waitress seemed more interested in going back and forth to the Other customers tables. Eventually another lady appeared with our food. My wife's Chimichanga - was small. she said the beef was seasoned. inside also was corn. it was in flour tortilla and deep fried then slathered in a red sauce and melted queso blanco. it came with refried beans and mexican rice. a lettuce leaf with a tiny smidgen of guacamole and pico de gallo. She said the Rice was blah and the beans did not have much flavor. She was not impressed. My tacos & quesadilla were laid out on two plates. a small plate had something that did not look like any quesadilla I have ever seen before. it looked like a baked or fried corn shell shaped like a clam. inside was lettuce, tomato, queso blanco, jalapeno peppers and roasted pork. There was very little cheese. It was not bad, just very different to me. I loved the crunch and the texture. The pork inside was bland. I could pretty much only taste the jalapenos. The tacos were laid out 4 on the plate. 2 on left were the carne asada - grilled steak, the 2 on the right were the al pastor - marinated roasted pork. On each one was a smattering of chopped raw onion, green leaf lettuce, parsley (i think) and fresh cilantro. Lime wedges were provided as well. Each one were on 3 small corn tortillas. The steak was minimal but seasoned. the marinated pork however was so bland i could barely taste it. It was weird it was red and clearly had been marinated in something but the flavor was subtle. I turned around and saw the waitress texting and listening to headphones. I asked her for more salsa and some hot sauce. Another gal came over with another bowl of salsa and 2 small cups of sauce - a Verde salsa, and another cup of something that looked like Hot sauce. I took a small spoonful of each. the Verde was smooth and tasted fresh to me but had a REAL after kick. I enjoyed its flavor and used it in combo with the mild salsa for my tacos and quesadilla. The Hot sauce however was so overpoweringly fricking hot my face turned beet red and I had to chug my Limon Jarrito. the guy behind us was laughing at me. It was HOT HOT HOT. I started to laugh too as it was all I could do to calm the molten lava heat... I have no clue, but I think it could of been Habanero sauce. Overall the Food was mixed reviews from us... 2 stars for my wife's meal and almost 4 stars for my food. Service was not as I would of liked it, I give it maybe 2 stars for service. My wife says she wouldn't mind coming back but she would prefer carry out. I wouldn't mind coming back for sit down Lunch.

Very good authentic Mexican food. The dining room is quite small, but the service is very good. Be sure to ask for the spicy salsa. They have 2 varieties (green & red), and they really spicy. The price is also very reasonable.

Awesome Mexican food! A bit of a hole in the wall restaurant. Only seats 20-25 people. Great salsa. Make sure to ask for the spicy salsas. Good taco plates topped with onion and cilantro. If you are looking for something to share or if you are super hungry, get the Azteca plate. Sort of like fajitas with a twist. Served in a blazing hot stone bowl with a spicy sauce that is out of sight! Staff is friendly and the service is excellent. :)

By far the best Mexican food I've had here in Michigan. I'm a very picky when it comes to mexican( seeing that I am one) so I'm happy I finally found this place. This is truly authentic 100%. Not like other places false advertise and misuse that phrase. This place is very good. Very small but very good. Give it a shot.

Think this place is relatively new to this location, I like most of the food here. The ingredients always seems very fresh, the corn Tortilla taste great, I love the fresh cilantro they us on the Taco too. Service is pretty good, prices are reasonable. Parking is easy, and there's a dairy Queen right next door.

We tried this place late on Saturday afternoon, just when dinner hour would be starting. The place was full which was a good sign. It's not very big but still good to see it full. We both had the chicken burrito. It was excellent and the sides were plentiful. Chips and salsa are complimentary and include refills. Two kinds of salsa were offered and both were good. The only disconcerting thing was we had to step over a pile of swept up debris to get to our table. The waitress was in the process of sweeping it up as we walked in. I guess it just causes me to wonder and look around for cleanliness. We will be back to try the place again.

Outstanding food. While eating, my thoughts were that this was food that someone made and put pride in, not just slapped together in an assembly line kitchen.

The food was just okay for me. It did seem more authentic than your standard Mexican places. We had issues with our glass of water which had to be replaced twice due to dirty glass and something floating around in it. That kind of turned me off right away...but I decided to stay and give the place a chance since my friend had recommended it to me. I ordered a chimichanga even though that is more Mexican-American but the waitress had recommended it and I thought I would try it. I ordered it with the "Piccadillo" beef filling. My husband ordered chicken flautas. In my opinion, the food overall was very bland. The beef had no seasoning and so it did not taste delicious. The only flavor I got was from the sauce and the fact that the tortilla was deep fried. The rice and beans accompanying also had no flavor. It was eatable but definitely not delicious. My husband also said his food was very bland and no flavor. The chips and salsa they bring at the beginning; also nothing special. The chips didn't seem homemade and neither did the salsa. It seemed like salsa out of a jar. The service was friendly though and she seemed to be trying to make us happy customers. All in all, I am on the fence about this place. I wanted to support a local restaurant but am not sure I would want to eat there again. Let's just say I would not be running back for the food served there.

My husband and I here tonight. We are from Florida and rely on yelp reviews so here is ours. The food was fair in quality and serving size. The price was good. The service was polite but slow. I had a chicken burrito with rice and beans. It was seasoned but not a strong flavor but not bland The guacamole was exceptional just not enough of it. If in the area and wanting Mexican, then check it out. It's small but homey feel about it. Unique food choices make it worth the visit...

This place is a surprise. Its a hole in the wall. It serves authentic mexican. For example, the tacos are soft corn tortillas, meat, onions and cilantro. Done. And meat is all the choices you'd expect, and a few that you'd expect if you knew authentic mexican. I'm shocked a place like that can be found in little old Wixom. I only ate there once, but am looking forward to going back.

Out of all the Mexican restaurants this is one of the best ones I have been to. The salsa and chips are complimentary (also free refills) there hot salsa is so delicious and there Mole Verde amazing. All of there fried items are panned fried not deep fried so it taste so much better mm mm. Its a small quaint restaurant but don't let it fool you its oh so good. Also extremely affordable nothing is over $9.00 . Most items around $2-3.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
