This is one of those places where I wish I had the option to make a 3.5 star rating. Rounding up I would give this place 4 stars. We have been to this place twice and the main dishes are pretty strong. I had steak tacos the first time and a chicken burrito the second time and both were pretty strong. They do put cheese sauce on top of your items, which is the nacho cheese. I hate that kind of cheese, so I order it without. They have a few lunch items that come with a bowl of soup. Their tortilla soup is top notch. I think I would return just for a big bowl of this soup. The two downsides to this place is that it is a bit pricey and the chips and salsa. I think they are trying to find a better chip and salsa alternative as the two times we visited they had different options. The first time the salsa was bland and the second time it seemed like it was from a jar. Hopefully they will get some better salsa. Overall, we enjoy this place and will probably come here for lunch every month or two. It is definitely a solid Mexican food option.

Visually the restaurant was neat, clean and appealing. The service needs a lot of work, they didn't know the menu or seat is with table settings. The food to me tastes boxed and canned - to me there isn't any authentic taste in the dishes, basically you could make these dishes at home.

Let's start off with the positives. The atmosphere is great here, it's clean, and looks quite updated. Chips were brought immediately. We ordered for 2 adults and 2 kids. Both adults ordered steak and shrimp fajitas. Kids ordered an enchilada and a taco. We got soup with the fajitas and really enjoyed the tortilla soup. Then trouble starts there. Our condiments ( rice, beans, lettuce, ect) came out without the rest of the dish. The meat came next. By the time our tortillas came everything was cold. The manager did make rounds which was nice and we explained out disappointment. He removed half our bill for us and apologized sincerely. Ending note, the cheesecake is fabulous!

Great atmosphere, friendly attentive staff, and good food. The Vagabundo Burrito is awesome. Amazing Margaritas, a selection for all tastes and budgets!

Was pleasantly surprised. Never realized how little my steak quesadillas, at other restaurants, actually tasted like steak until i ate here. Food was delicious and salsa is now my 2nd favorite. (Must like cilantro and onion) Will go back.

This newly opened Mexican restaurant has a comfortable and clean look. There are a few Diego Rivera posters on the wall which I consider a plus for any place but especially those theming themselves as 'Mexican'. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and given brightly colored red, green and white chips with 2 types of salsa. I generally enjoy chips and salsa (isn't that 1/2 of the reason people go out for Mexican anyway?) but not this time around. The red salsa was boarding on 'ok' but not great and the green tasted like ketchup. Plus, the bright chips were like normal corn chips who vomited food coloring all over themselves. I'm sure they were just trying to pay homage to Mexico's flag but I'd rather have natural corn chips than ones with extra chemicals. Like the red salsa, the food was only ok. I got the Chef's special, Mahi-Mahi Tacos only to find that they had charred the hell out of that poor fish! The taste was way too smokey for me. My partner got the chicken fajitas but found them dry and lacking that juicy flavor (I tried some and agreed). The manager came by and asked us how the food was so we explained our stance. He listened and seemed to be receptive about what we thought. It was nice to see the restaurant was invested in the customers' opinion. Our waitress was also fantastic. So all in all, we loved the interior and personal attention we got at La Roca but we're not impressed by the food.

Love this place! Great people, nice bar, quick food, and a wide selection of booze. The bartenders, managers, and the owner are all very friendly. They actually care about their customers. I went there about 2 times and they all new my name. This is the main reason they'e earned a 4. Food is alright, I personally have tried about 4 different dishes and was never blown away but it's quick and tasty enough. This is the only thing preventing them from earning a 5. Go there and sit at the bar.

Novis best Mexican restaurant! I love la roca- the people are fantastic and the food is great too. The drink deals are fantastic. Overall, one of my favorite novi restaurants!

After reading some of the reviews, I had second thoughts about coming here, but I did anyways. The decor is beautiful. The location is horrible. It's tucked away in a corner next to red olive and uncle als produce. I sat down at the bar, abs ordered a carryout. The bartender was very helpful and quite attentive. Ordered a chicken fajita, and chicken enchiladas and a cold beer while I waited. I was happy to see that my carryout took longer than other Mexican places. Most Mexican places have everything ready and just scoop it on a plate. This order too about 10-15 minutes. The place was busy. I got my food and went home. The food was delicious. The chips and salsa was great. Everything tastes fresh and excellent. I have been craving the enchiladas for a few days now. Time to head back.

This was the best food!! Small menu, high quality food, great friendly staff, extremely clean place. I ordered the guacamole and hard shell chicken tacos. My husband got the chicken fajitas and were fantastic. Everything was so fresh. Not oily or greasy like other Mexican place's. Not one thing wrong with this place. I'll be going back a lot. So happy to finally find a place that knows what they are doing.

It's not often that a venture away from my favorite Mexican places to try something new. I had a coupon for La Roca and figured I'd give it a try. The decor is very different for a mexican restaurant. They go for a more contemporary look, which is fine with me, but in its current state, it has its pros and cons. The bar area is nice, and well done. The dining area is somewhat bland and too open. My party of 2 was seated at a large, 6 seat round table. All of the tables were this big. They had the fold down ends that converted them from round to square, but they didn't have any set up that way. A 4-person square table would have made it feel more comfortable. We ended up putting down two of the sides ourselves to get rid of the empty feel of it. The chips and salsa were marginal. I think they're trying to be unique with the colored chips, but to me it just comes off as tacky. I was surprised by how small the menu was, but they seemed to have all of the staples. I ordered the chicken fajitas. Before the main dish came out, we were served soup, which was really good. It wasn't hot (temperature)enough though. There was a good mix of meat and veggies, but the chicken was really dry. I don't like my fajitas covered in oil, but these definitely needed a little more. Tortillas and the plate of fixings were fine. I think this place has potential to be a great place. It just needs some tweaking. The location is going to make that more difficult. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. For the amount of food you get, I also thought it was a bit pricey compared to other Mexican restaurants. I'm going to go back to my preferred Mexican places for now, but I'll probably give it another chance at some point if I get another coupon.

The atmosphere was nice and the servers were friendly with quick service. Very different from traditional Mexican decor but it looks nice. My fiancé ordered the chicken enchiladas and I got a stuffed steak burrito with rice and beans inside and topped with cheese sauce. The enchiladas were okay but the rice and beans on the side tasted like something that came out of a can. My burrito was pretty tasteless and definitely did not remind me of Mexican food. Their chips and salsa were the only thing we agreed that we enjoyed. If you are looking for authentic Mexican I would highly suggest you go somewhere else.

I am rating this restaurant a 4, one of those stars is because they just opened a couple weeks ago and the manager seems like he wanted our input and it's obvious he wants the restaurant to succeed. My friend and I went for lunch. The first thing that struck me was the ambiance. It's a trendy more upscale look which is a surprise in a strip mall setting and for a Mexican restaurant. The managers and waitress were very attentive. My friend needs gluten and dairy free foods which are tough to find in a Mexican restaurant but the manager came over and explained the options. They are working on a special dietary needs menu. The food was good but not exciting. I was lured in by the upscale look but found the menu to be the same old Mexican fare. That was disappointing. The manager asked for our thoughts and I said doesn't Mexico have any fresh contemporary food? It would be nice to experience something besides enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, nachos... He said those are the items that are most popular. And I agree they are popular and tasty but I believe the Mexican culinary world has more to offer! I think this restaurant has great potential.

Interior was finished nicely- not your typical Mexican restaurant. My first impression of the menu was that it was quite limited and they offer the normal basic Mexican dishes. I was hoping to see something unique or different. The bar area is nice but no drink specials. Nobody at our table was blown away by their meals. The red & green salsas that they brought to start were very bland with no spice. The Burrito was nothing extra special, dark red enchilada sauce tasted like pure chili powder and fajitas were 80% onions. Rice is the same as every other place. All in all this place might have a hard time. They can't quite compete with the bistro style Mexican joints such as Rojo, and they are far more expensive than other local places like Los Tres Amigos. If I'm going to spend $12 on a quesadilla it better be outstanding and this place just doesn't have that. Maybe it will get better with time. We might be back we might not.

Place was clean, service was good, people were friendly, but food was bland and tasted like a microwave meal from the grocery store. Very limited menu selection for a Mexican restaurant. Place was empty and still took a long time to get a beer. LA HERRADURA down the street is MUCH better and very authentic.

Great good , decent prices. I ordered the Special Nachos and everything tasted great! The bar tender was friendly, the manger checked on me, Everyone was very attentive. If I'm in the area craving Mexican this will be my "go-to spot".

Walked in for a late dinner and was greeted and seated promptly. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. It was filling, but I don't see this as a place I would come out to again. I'm from the Southwest and am used to certain styles of Mexican dishes. Service was good ok, I was checked on after I finished eating. Considering there were only four tables that were occupied, I expected better service. Oh well, give it a try, it may be what you like.

Wanted to give this place a try since it was new and just opened. Very friendly servers, the decor was very nice. Very nice looking bar area. The downfall was the food, it was okay, just average. Chips and salsa were just average also. Nothing really bad, just nothing that made me really want to come back.

Good food. Good prices. Great service. Will definitely come back. I had a quesadilla which was very good. Both the bartender and waitress we're extremely pleasant. I went there shortly after they opened. Hopefully the pleasant service will continue.

Went here Memorial weekend. Stood at door waiting to be seated and wasn't acknowledged three times by host. Since there were only about 4 tables of customers it seemed a long wait to just sit down. Decided it would probably take forever to be waited on and be served so we left. I will give it another shot based on some of the reviews I have read.

Nice place, clean interior and the staff all seemed very happy to be there and were helpful. The food was as good as any other typical Mexican place. Their 3 choices for sauces were something different and added some extra flavor besides the salsa and sour cream. To me this place is the best option within a 10 mile radius based on our first meal there.

Service was super-fast. Small menu but food was excellent. Flautas were crispy, not hard as they often are. Not a huge fan of the red, green and white chips, green salsa was yummy.

Ground beef, tortilla and velvetta does not make for a smothered burrito. Not authentic, chips and salsa just ok. Chicken in chicken enchiladas was soggy. Very disappointing. I give it six months. We make better Mexican food at home

I was very excited to see that this had opened nearby. However, the first visit was a bit disappointing. There was good and not-so-good here. I'm hoping the place will improve with time The Good: Fresh chips with 2 kinds of salsa Friendly wait staff - did not snub us because we weren't drinking alcohol. Decent prices Menu not too huge Drinks and food came in a timely fashion. The Not-so-good: I was expecting one of the salsas to have some kick but both were bland. Also had to ask for plates to go with the chips. The cheese enchiladas looked more like taquitos. Very flat and tiny. I understand that there is usually beef, chicken or beans as the filling, but I thought I'd get a decent amount of cheese since I did not order any of those. Red sauce was bland. The fish in the tacos had a very bitter taste which overwhelmed the tacos. I had to ask for a water refill and the refill did not include the lime I asked for. Waitress did not clear away empty plates when we were done - the hostess came by and did that later. No tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole with meals - ???

Fancy and clean environment but bland food. I ordered the burrito dinner and we had the flaming cheese appetizer, everything was just ok. Velveeta cheese all over the burrito! Yuck! The red salsa tasted like it came from a can. The green sauce was ok. Maybe because this place is still new it's struggling but I'm not going back to find out. They did have a good happy hour.

I tried La Roca for the first time this week. It has a nice, welcoming, and clean atmosphere and friendly staff. The chips and salsa were delicious as was my lunch of chicken tacos. My only complaint is that the service was on the slow side, but it wasn't horrible. Overall I enjoyed this place and look forward to coming back!

I love Mexican food but La Roca fell short of wowing me. The decor is beautiful, it doesn't look like a mexican joint, I could easily see myself going back for drinks in the evening. Just eyeballing the drink menu, I'd say they had 30 different tequilas. In the bar area, there were some different seating options that look like it might be a nice place to kick back and have some drinks. While we didn't try adult beverages, the specialty drinks sounded appetizing. I did see a drink special on the board in the entry way for $5.00. I was bummed out by the food. I ordered the enchiladas which come in a set of three. My expectations were high due to the atmosphere and the menus that say they're designed by chef so and so. No, I don't remember his name. I should have googled it because I wouldn't want to eat anywhere else that he was a chef or in a location where he designed the menu. I digress. I ordered one bean, one chicken and one beef. I should have asked what those things meant, but I was in a go with the flow mood. The bean was refried beans. No cilantro, onions, nothing. Just refried beans in a corn tortilla that tasted reminiscent of crayons. The chicken was shredded chicken breast without any seasoning whatsoever. Have you ever had unseasoned meat at a mexican restaurant? I haven't. The beef was ground beef and again, unseasoned. I don't expect it to be spicy, but I do expect some cumin, coriander... something! The refried beans that came with the enchiladas on the side were fine. Nothing remarkable. My partner ordered the steak tacos. Again, no flavor. It was steak that was cooked appropriately with some cabbage/lettuce on top, but again, no seasoning. I know that they just opened and they have to experiment a little. I hope the staff experiments with flavor. Aria, our waitress, was young and maybe a little inexperienced. We were in the middle of our meals and she asked us if we would like more water. Instead of walking across the room to ask us, why not bring the pitcher and refill them anyway? It's water, not tequila. If you can see we need if from across the room, just make sure it's full. Some nice things that I noted, it was very clean. Everything was plated nicely. The chips and salsa were served promptly when we sat down. It came with what appears to be fresh pico and fresh tomatillo salsa. When asked if there was anything that they could do better, I remarked on the lack of flavor and the manager brought me their "hot" salsa, which was very good. It put me off a little that the chips were dyed green and red, I'm good with undyed chips. I'm not writing this place off yet. I'm going to try it again in a month or so and see if it's improved. The manager seems like he genuinely wants to grow the business, not just make money.

Went here for the first time the other day and loved it! The food was great. The salsa and chips were a little spicy for my taste, but were still good. I ordered the Banderillas with the salsa cream. They were delicious! I'm not a huge Mexican food fan, but this place was pretty good. Most places just put cilantro on everything... I can't stand cilantro... This place didn't do that which I really appreciated! Recommend!

Really liked this place for what it is. It's definitely Americanized Mexican, which I am cool with. Someone looking for a super authentic Mexican experience has other options in the Wixom area. I had the steak tacos and they are pretty good for ten bucks. Friendly service and very clean.

We've talked about trying this place out since it opened but just never got around to it. Decided to have dinner here last night. Started with chips and salsa and we ordered a side of guac (best thing on the menu). We ordered the flaming chorizo which I thought was good, but certainly NOT very spicy. one teenager had the nachos (ick), they were very dry. One teenager had the Ranchero which is beef with a red sauce served with rice. Beef was very "gamey" tasting. Husband had the fajita, looked delicious but he had to wait 10 minutes for a fork. I had the chicken enchiladas. It came with rice and beans. I thought my selection was the best of all of it. The 4 of us was over $100 and we didn't have any alcohol. Our server was friendly. There was 2 people at the bar and one other table besides us. The restaurant was clean (didn't use the bathrooms) but decor was a bit barren and they played Tailor Swift & Meghan Trainor for music. This is a Mexican restaurant...can we please have some salsa music at least? I gave it two stars only because it is clean. The food is "eh" at best. There are other really great options in the area. We won't be back to this one.

La Roca is, overall, pretty good...not great, but pretty good. For starters, the service is really good - you can tell that they pride themselves on their customer service and it shows. The staff went out of their way to reach out to us and make sure everything was going well. The restaurant is very clean and comfortably decorated. The food is good, but nothing overly special. I give it a 3 because 3.5 wasn't an option. I will definitely eat there again, but it isn't the best Mexican option in the area.

The 2 stars are for the decor because it is a has a nice modern setting. As for the food....nothing to write home about. No flavor. Fake melted cheese like the nacho cheese at the movie theater. Apparently lettuce and tomato is extra. There was nothing with my enchilada dinner. That could have dressed up my Blahhh meal a bit. Salsa was flavorless and not even a hint of spice. Martini was served warm and silverware had fingerprints all over them. It's very franchise like in here. Disappointed. They put more effort into the bar area than the "grille" aspect. This is not authentic mexican if that's what your looking for. If you are starving and would enjoy overpaying for a microwave dinner or the line at Taco Bell is too long then maybe you will like the food here. All staff seems inexperienced. Just an honest review... If they are still there in 6 mos I might go back to see if they step it up.

Was looking for a good local Mexican restaurant. While the decor is nice. The food was bland and over priced. Will stop in again in a few months to see if the menu expands and taste improves. Good luck to the owners. I hope they listen to their patrons and they improve the menu. Starting with adding a kids menu and season the food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
