This Indiana girl loves it! My Grandpa used to live in this area. As soon as I got off the plane or got in town I was at Hungry Howies. They have good customer service, & the best part is they have flavored crusts (my favorite garlic). Honestly I never had anything bad at Hungry Howies.

Sorry to do this to the usually wonderful people that work here, but here it is... Last week I brought my FIL to this store for so he could grab a sandwich. There was 4 guys behind the counter and they were great! So up beat, joking, just everything you want when you go to a "fast food" place. They may remember him as the one who didn't stop raving about how wonderful they all were while I was trying to drag him out the door. Seriously, he wouldn't shut up about how great they were the whole drive home. Well, this week is his birthday and he asked his wife to get him the same exact sandwich for his birthday dinner. I know, kinda weird to get JJs for a birthday dinner, but the real celebration is tomorrow. His wife stopped and I waited in the car for her to grab it. When she came out she was aghast in the service she received. The gentleman at the register was wonderful she said, but the chick making the sandwich was totally rude! While my MIL was trying to describe the sandwich the lady had a HUGE attitude about how she wanted it. MIL said it felt like she was in a huge rush to finish, when the store was empty! MIL asked for the oil to be a certain way, the guy at the counter said of course they could do that, but the girl decided to do it another way. When she was leaving, she felt like the guy at the counter understood what was happening, and was apologetic. I worked at Hungry Howies for 4 years, if it isn't an outrageous request, you just do what the customer wants, no questions asked. Also she said it was for her husband's birthday dinner, and for someone to be so disrespectful..... I would have been overjoyed to hear that some dude liked our sandwiches so much that he asked for it for dinner on his birthday. I'm just really :( about it.
This is my favorite Jimmy John's. They always get my sandwich right. The music is a little to loud sometimes, but hey, I'm old.

Highland House Cafe & Carry Out

10719 Highland Rd

Reviews:
When the name "carry out" is specifically in the name of an establishment, it should set your mind to the right tone realizing that even if you do decide to sit down "cafe" style, it is NOT their main focus. Frankly, I've never been in the position to take a seat at a table. Their menu is ample enough to fill most needs if you are familiar with the Highland House a bit further west along Highland Road. I always tend to get some ribs and a greek salad and perhaps some wings and a side from time to time. The staff is always very nice and their estimates for timing are pretty good. This is a standard stop of for me when I want a decent nosh at home without the fuss.
Picked up some carry-out when visiting my mom's and it was great. She had me pick-up some sauce too, which was great next day on spagetti. Ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and a greek salad. Loved the homemade pizza like bread and the chicken tasted fresh and liked the grilled taste. Next time I will have to try the lasagna!
Decent pizza, and these days a lot better than the chains nearby, who keep lowering their quality (along with their prices). Highland House's calzones are also pretty good. My husband loves their ranch dressing, especially paired with the "famous" bread sticks ~ unchanged from when he was a kid. I personally find the bread sticks a little dry and not quite garlicky-buttery enough for me, but they're known for their bread sticks and many rave about them. This location is definitely a plus if you're wanting take-out, as parking is much easier than their main location, and you won't have to deal with the line of customers you always find there waiting to be seated .

Nice deck/patio area with a great view, decent service, good fish and chips and great beer specials. The parking "lot" across the street leaves much to be desired. They could really stand to do something about the parking situation because it's tedious trying to navigate that dirt lot filled with potholes, just to park your car. Park at your own risk.
I drink here at the tiki bar. This where it's at. Love the atmosphere. Reminds me of Great Gatsby. Drinks are a good price. Hidden. Ate there once, it was good.
This place is awesome! We went on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time! Prices are good and the service was fantastic! We'll be back!

Dave & Amy’s

Reviews:
Hours on Saturday are that they are open until 11pm. They turned away our whole family at 9:54 because they were slow and wanted to close early .... and they had other customers eating in the restaurant. REALLY? What business does that? Not ever getting my business.
Great food and excellent service! This was our first time visiting Dave & Amy's and we were impressed! The server came to our table quickly. Drinks came out quickly. The bread that came with the dinner was pretty amazing and the honey butter was out of this world! The dinners came out just as we ordered and were very filling. With my dinner I had a side salad with cherry vinaigrette - I recommend giving that a try! The server was prompt on refills and checking on us from time to time. We look forward to our next visit here.
I was looking for a restaurant with a salad bar, and after reading Yelp reviews of Dave & Amy's, I decided to try it. Before I even walked in, the aroma of good food greeted me in the parking lot. A server noticed me standing as soon as I walked in, but as her hands were full, she called to me & said she'd be right with me -- which she was. I was handed 3 (!) menus: a wine/beer list, lunch specials and the regular menu. I pretty much knew what I wanted, but I looked over the menus anyhow. They offer a wide variety of foods, but not so many that the menu is overwhelming. There are breakfast items (homemade pancakes, French toast, eggs & omelettes), burgers, steaks, ribs, salads, soups, sandwiches and fish. I decided on the salad bar & a cup of loaded baked potato soup. The soup came while I was getting my salad. It was hot and delicious! I am not usually a soup lover, but this was very good -- chunks of potato in the soup, and it was topped with REAL bacon and cheese. The salad bar is not huge, but it is adequate. It offered lettuce, a fruit cocktail with large chunks of fruit, cottage cheese, as well as the standard choices. I was pleased to see feta cheese; that's an unusual choice for salad bars but one that I like. And, again, REAL bacon, not fake bacon bits. There were also about 9 salad dressing choices. I did find it a little odd that the servers used the salad bar to compose the standard salads that other customers ordered. I think I'd be a little taken aback if I'd paid $9 for a specialty salad and saw that the fixings came from the $6 salad bar. I can understand that the restaurant doesn't want to double up on cut vegetables, but perhaps keeping some in the back would be a good idea. I found the staff to be friendly but rather rushed & slow. I also think that Dave may have walked in & had the booth in front of me; I heard someone call him by name, he didn't need to see a menu, and he didn't stay very long. The server also seemed to treat him with a bit of reverence. This seems to be a placed where people return: there were at least 2 other people with whom the servers seemed particularly familiar -- enough that they knew what the guests wanted to order. I was also impressed at the price of the salad bar. Alone, it's $5.99. With the cup of soup, it was $6.79. I did notice that it was supposed to come with bread, but I didn't get any. (I was interested in the honey butter!) I was going to mention it, but it turned out that I didn't really want it, so I didn't say anything. I will definitely keep Dave & Amy's in mind for the next time I want a salad bar -- and maybe I'll return soon for breakfast!

Leo’s Coney Island

Reviews:
Leo's has become a White Lake staple both for food and in the community. They have great coney island style food, magic for the kids on Tuesdays, and overall hard working staff and owner. Stop in for some good quick food!
Always only had breakfast here with the family. Even though it seems packed when we walk in, we always seem to get a booth with no wait. Lots of seating overall with modernish looks inside. They turn their tables pretty quickly and we're always out within an hour or less, yet don't feel rushed. The food tends to arrive quickly and falls under 'good, filling eats'. Servers can be just slightly off at times, but nothing to overly complain about. Your order is taken on a tablet, but there is no public Wi-Fi. We generally shell out about ~$25 for breakfast for 2 adults and a preschooler with the tip.
We came for lunch, looking a Greek salad and chicken rice soup - they have both, good enough. Fast and decent food. Not the cleanest place, The wait staff hustles and for the most part do a good job. They have a limited menu, but you should know what you are getting when you go to a Coney Island.

Jet’s Pizza

901 Nordic Dr,Ste 101
White Lake, 48383
Reviews:
Their pizza is just meh, not terrible, but definitely not good. My mother-in-law, who lives in White Lake, prefers to order pizza from this place when we come into town to visit, but I'm not a fan. I've had it numerous times (as well as pizza from other Jet's locations before) and I'm still not a fan, which means it isn't a one-off, lackluster experience only. Nope, it's consistently mediocre and the price is bloated for what it is: a typical, fast food pizza with basic toppings that costs considerably more than its competitors, like Hungry Howie, Dominos, etc. I've never been impressed with it and probably never will be. This particular one also suffers from slightly surly service both on the phone and at the pickup counter, so that's another, albeit small, strike against them, in my opinion. They don't seem to be trying too hard to compete, probably because there isn't a whole lot of stiff competition around them.
This is a good and friendly Jets store. Pizza slices are always fresh and this I'd about the only pizza chain I like
The people that work here are sweet. I moved back from Cali after 3 years and missed jets dearly. Get the ranch, it's made fresh. Oh yeah, don't listen to the first guy.

Had a coupon I got in a mailer and decided so we decided to give a more independent local place a try. This is a smaller establishment and they only had one table and a booth open when we went in for a late morning Saturday breakfast recently. The booths here are small and uncushioned and our server was just below average. Our coffee got gone at one point and we really wanted to add a Coke into the mix and that was unpleasant after waiting a bit too long for a fill. That being said, reconsideration of their coffee brand or brew method should be done ASAP. Not sure if we got some out of an old/badly brewed pot, but both servings were really poor tasting. I doctor mine up with cream and sugar and BF takes his black and we both agreed it just sucked all around. Coffee is just too important for a breakfast place to get wrong. The actual food was good. BF had a basic 2 egg, sausage, and toast plate and I had a 3 egg Greek omelette that came topped with a lot of feta. My omelette came with a decent amount of hashbrowns. Our boy had a kids menu pancake with bacon. Out came a single mousehead pancake which made him pretty happy and the bacon was cooked nicely. The grill is out in the open and the food did not take super long to come out. They are advertising their brand new Belgian waffles on their sign out front and their mailer, but they weren't prominently featured or pushed. Might've gave them a try had they been. Our breakfast bill for 3 was about $25 before the coupon, which is comparable to other places. When we first walked in we waited a few minutes for our booth to be bussed and cleaned and one of the cooks gave us 3 little suckers. Looks like they like to accommodate the kids and that's nice. Overall an average place that's probably hovering closer to 2.5 stars. The blips we had were offset by the coupon discount. Would've been extra disgruntled otherwise. Wish it was more comfy and less utilitarian / Weekday Working Joe, too.
I am kind of surprised by all the good reviews. We went on a Sunday for breakfast. The food was average. The service was not that good. Maybe we went on a bad day,but the tables around us felt how we felt. Food took a long time once ordered. I felt they were short staffed. I will not be back. Nothing special.
Used to be amazing when Dave was running it! Awesome waitresses, good food, and a total "where everyone knows your name" kind of place. Unfortunately Dave sold the business and all the old waitresses and cooks left. It hasn't been the same since. Slow service, half decent food, just not worth the hassle.
