Thank you fellow Yelpers! I was craving a calzone and this was the place that showed up with the best reviews. We tried it out for dinner this past week and were very pleased. Everything is very fresh. I had a greek salad that was beautiful and delicious with lots of feta cheese, beets and black olives in it. We ordered the breadsticks and garlic cheese dip on the suggestion on a few other reviews. Very, very good stuff! Their dough is quite tasty on it's own and the dip is a garlicy cream cheese that was great on everything. I had sausage, onions and mushrooms in my stromboli (that's what they call it on the menu). The sausage tasted like it was homemade, the mushrooms were huge pieces of fresh mushroom. My only complaint was that the onions were also raw pieces. Next time I'll see if they can cook them a little first or just leave them off, it may be less of an issue on a pizza. My husband had sausage and pepperoni and liked it enough to somehow eat the whole stromboli in addition to the half order of breadsticks. Portions are quiet ample here. It is a small 4 table place so carry out may be best. It was a fun little outing for us and they do have high chairs so we opted to dine there. The people working there were really nice and very helpful. They also carry Uncle Ray's chips. (Possibly one of the best kept secrets in Detroit. Why aren't those things everywhere???) We will be going back but next time I'll remember to take cash. They do take credit cards but have a sign asking for cash when possible due to the rising merchant fees on cards.

I had the wrong day!!! I am pissed! I was expecting big things! I must've ordered when the cousin's friend's sister's boyfriend stepped in while they had some emergency.....Or, quite possibly, the owner's daughter's current boyfriend was feeling confident.... I dunno..... Not a really good experience....pretty bummed considering the positive banter up in here. I took the kids to Bay Court Beach and after a few hours of swimming with white trash kids who throw full bags of cheeto's into the lake, love to bully smaller kids, throw rocks, and scream like dying animals.....we were all ready for some pizza. Gettin totally sucked in by Yelp contributors I decided to get some carryout from this place on the way home. When I opened the box, it looked like someone dropped the damn thing....so strange, it looked like it "folded" in the middle somehow.(?) All I know is that there was 4/5 of the cheese and roni in the middle of the pie and the outer slices were basically dough and a just a bit of sauce( I took a pic of it but decided not to post as to avoid being an outrageous douche..... Dough seemed sweetened(this may be the crack everyone seems to smoke about this pie), Sauce seemed sweet too....cheese was a river in the middle of the pizza...... Now, the bread sticks were a little strange as well....NOT even a dusting of parm or romano, etc and they were incredibly dense. Kinda heinous but if I was out drinking like a boss all night, these sticks might rank "up there" right around 4 bells....otherwise it seems as though I should have gotten the "CHEESE" sticks......dunno......Had to cough up extra coins for SAUCE with the sticks (Dick points). Paid $22 for a large 1/2 Roni and some sticks......Feel like I really want to call em up and give em some shit for ripping me off but what is that going to do? It really looks like I got the wrong thing maybe at the wrong time......I'm trying to stay positive and not subscribe to the theory that all the groovy reviews were owners, family, employees, etc....I really WANT to support old skool, family owned, pizza freaks, all day long.... I hate this side of town but if I come out here again and get crappy wheel from this place again, I know my wife is sending me to sleep in the garage for a week.

The pizza is pretty good but the cheese bread is ridiculous! That's a good thing. I have never seen so much cheese on bread in my life. The prices are a little but more than I'd like to pay but I will probably go back for some more cheese bread.

This place has decent pizza at best. It's nothing that you're going to go out of your way for but like I said it's just decent.

People talked this place up. Didn't like the sauce. Green Lantern in Madison hgts is better. Red Knapps is better than this place in the Clarkston area.

Fast delivery, great pizza and I love the cheese bread, loaded with cheese. Best around...

The pizza had great flavor and was way more filling than normal pizza. The cheese breadsticks were more like a garlic bread loaf with a TON of mozzarella on it which was a tad overwhelming but still tasty. I will definitely go there again! The inside has an "old school" charm to it.

I have been getting takeout from Calabrese's since about 1990. They have the best Stromboli and cheese bread I've ever had! Whenever I am in the area I stop in. Don't pass up this gem!

Brought home a Greek salad only to find there were no onion or peppers. Probably would have been a decent salad had they added those items. Dressing was good. Will look somewhere else.

Great little pizza joint! Our family loves this place and comes here all the time. It's been here forever and has great pizza and good prices. The cheese bread is out of this world. Defiantly recommend it!

The first time I went here, I was kind of put off by the high prices, but totally understood once I got the pizza home. It was incredible. It was difficult to come up with something even comparable, it was that good. Yesterday, I came back and decided to add breadsticks and an Italian sub, expecting culinary bliss. Instead, I was disappointed at every turn. Consistency seems to be a massive problem here. The bread was incredibly dry and almost charred. The pizza, on the other hand, was so undercooked, you could pull dough out of every bite. It got even worse as the pizza cooled down. Totally disgusting. The sub was completely underwhelming, especially considering the bread-to-filling ratio was about 3-to-1. Apparently, a light drizzle of French dressing is their special sauce. I've had better Italian subs at Jet's. (No, that's not saying that Italian subs are great at Jet's.) It's been a while since I've felt like I totally wasted $40.

I've passed by Calabrese's for years, but only in the daytime so it's never been open. I was actually wondering if they were still in business. But last night, I was returning from a road trip, really wanted pizza and didn't really want a chain-store pie. Sadly, my favorite local place, Slice, recently closed, but then, I remembered that Calabrese's was right on the way. I was glad to see that they were open! I was glad to see that I didn't have to get huge pizzas. They actually have 2 small sizes, a baby and a mini. I got a mini with hamburger & mushrooms, and that was 6 decent-sized pieces. It's not as cheap as the $5 chain pizza, but it's MUCH better. The sauce was just right for me -- not glopped all over the pizza, not too spicy and not overwhelming. The cheese was delicious and generous, and the meat & mushrooms seemed to be of good quality. This is definitely a family-owned business, and on this night, the family was not getting along well. The kids were kind of horsing around, and the woman -- aunt of the the boys -- was not amused. She said she'd been yelling them all day; she certainly was cross with them while I was there. She scolded one for not taking my order but did it in a mean way ("What? You don't know how to take orders anymore?), and the kid said he didn't think it was polite to do so with a mouth full of food. Still, in some ways, that adds to the experience. The next time I crave a pizza and don't mind driving (it's on the other side of town from where I live), I will try to remember therm!

We decided to order here after hearing good things about their food and we were horribly disappointed in every part of our order. First off, we ordered a pizza, ribs, breadsticks, cheese dip, and a salad. The pizza was black and the ribs were definitely old and rotten. The cheese dip was at least 2 weeks old and smelled rotten. The breadsticks had no flavor to them at all. The only good thing was the salad (which is hard to mess up). We called and ordered this and they told us it would be 45 minutes for a pick up so we assumed that they would be really busy but when we got there to pick up our food there were employees just sitting around doing nothing and it looked like they hadn't had an order all day. I don't understand why it would take that long for a simple of an order as we had. I will NOT be returning!

Incredible pizza pie. Ordered a veggie pizza, "well done", and they understood what I meant! Have you ever gone to order a veggie pizza only to find it soggy, veggies out of a can? This was real...real...fresh vegetables and actually cooked well. I had a conversation with one of the employees (actually, I think she was a manager or owner?) about it briefly. They seem like very nice people and the pizza is just phenomenal. The salad was very delicious as well. I know, who thinks of Good Italian Pizza in Waterford!? But there are gems in this world, diamonds in the rough (if you will), and this is a place that I have driven out of my way for on several occasions. Also, side note, they have good hard-to-find old fashioned colas (the ones that don't have the high fructose flayvin syrup and the other chemicals) in the cooler. Woohoo! Delicious pizza, excellent salad, and real soda! What more can one ask for? I'm just wondering... where's Calabreze's Pizzeria #1? This one appears to be #2.

This is my favorite pizza place!! So fun to dine in this quaint pizzeria. This was the first restaurant my wife and I took our daughters. Neither of them were even a year old yet. The owner is super nice! My usual - a pizza with pepperoni and green olives with an order of cheese bread. Amazing!!! I think I need to go now :0)

I have loved this place since I was very very young. I have baby videos of myself eating the Mozzarella Sticks. I now live in chicago, home of Giordanos, Lou Malnati's, Gino's East, etc... I'm going to say this in a separate paragraph for emphasis: There never has been or will be a finer pizza eatery this side of Italy. Calabreces is the place, as far as I'm concerned. The chicago style pizza puts chicago to shame. It might cost a little more, but the love in this pie is palatable. The toppings are top-notch. The dough is delicate, and the crust ends up tasting like a breadstick (which tastes like no other breadstick). Garlicky from pans seasoned with years of use, passion, and love. If you doubt me, just... Just go. It's worth every penny and more.

Very fresh toppings and delicious sauce. All of that on a tasty crust, I'm in heaven! Just don't expect much for atmosphere.

I LOVE pizza and this place is my favorite, hands down. The ingredients are FRESH and toppings are chopped up when you order rather than sitting around all day. The veggie pizza is just outstanding. The only thing I've had that I actually didn't like were the whole wheat breadsticks. They were more like dry crackers and very uncharacteristic of the rest of the items offered at Calabreses. I've also had the subs there which are also delicious.

Awesome pizza!!! And the cheese bread is the best I've ever had.... I went here for the first time yesterday after reading the reviews on here and it was by far the best pizza and bread that I've had in Detroit. It's a nice little family run place which I love supporting. The people working were really friendly as well.

In a city like Detroit, where one of the few things to garner national attention outside of GM and urban decay is our pizza, surely a tiny place in Waterford couldn't possibly be a contender for best Detroit-area pizza, right? Wrong! Believe it or not, Calabrese's Pizzeria is a serious best in Detroit contender and well worth a visit. The store itself is tiny but so cute and welcoming that it feels 10 times as large. The staff knows pizza and the owner (Anna, who is there virtually all the time) is nice and clearly loves what she does. If you haven't had their cheese breadsticks, you've basically never had cheese breadsticks, period. As an added plus, Calabrese's is VERY vegan friendly and happy to accommodate the non-animal product consuming in your party. Though it IS sad that those folks will never know the joys of an order of Cal's cheese breadsticks... ;)

i haven't eaten here in a while but i used to be up here all the time when i was in high school. we even came here after homecoming on multiple occasions. it's a waterford staple. i love getting my own drinks out of the cooler, most of them in glass bottles and they had orangina! i love love love their breadsticks, cheese dip and cheese bread. i also adore the greek salad. everything else is top notch as well, but these are my all time favs. the pizza, calzones, everything i've ever ordered off the menu has been delicious. i even have one of their t-shirts :)

I'm sorry you guys but this place is way overrated! We got a pizza with sausage and mushrooms which was good but nothing amazing. We also got the cheese bread that everyone raved about but my husband and I thought the bread was too thick, had a glob of mozzarella cheese on top and tasted like they sprinkled garlic powder on it. Finally, we got the small Greek Salad which was tiny and unimpressive. I would order from here again if I was in a pinch but I don't see that happening anytime in the near future.

Really disappointed! This place had great reviews and my boyfriend heard great things. Our cheese bread and pizza were both waaaay undercooked. We won't be returning.

I love Chicago-style pizza, but this is, by far, one of the best pizzas I have EVER had. This is another one of the restaurants that we miss so much about living in Clarkston - We moved to Washington in January. Will DEFINITELY be back to visit this place!

My favorite pizza place by far in Waterford! Best ingredients, no skimping. My favorite though is the pizza sub.... yum! Toasted in the oven either all that cheese. It's so good. Just a little hole in the wall place, but the nicest people and the best pizza. They do mostly take out, but also have a very limited seating area. Maybe a couple tables or so. Parking in rear. Entrance in front on street side. Call ahead on a Friday evening. You could wait a while! Totally worth it.

The Calabrese family knows how to make pizza pie like no other corporation can. I worked at Cal's for the majority of my teenage years and it will always have a place in my heart. Mozzarella bread is a favorite of all. Cheese dip is a must try. The Greek pizza is one of my favs. The prices may seem high but you get alot. They make real pies, loaded with good stuff. A small pizza at Cal's goes as far as a large at some other places and tastes way better.

Calabrese's has the best pizza I've ever had, and being a college student I'm somewhat of a pizza expert. Really good crust, delicious toppings, kind of New-York-style thinness which I love, and it's family-owned. Go here and get their cheese breadsticks. Do it. It will make your life complete. Great Greek salads, great subs, great everything. I don't believe they have delivery, just take-out and dine-in, but it's soooo worth the drive to pick it up. Very nice owners too.

This is the greatest pizza in SE Michigan. Generous toppings, friendly staff. Always a perfect pizza. The cheese bread and Stromboli are also delicious. We live on the other side of Waterford so Calabrese's isn't convenient for us. There are probably 10 pizza joints between our home and Calabrese's - we just pass them by as we've tried them all and ended up only disappointed. So we find it well worth the drive. It's definitely not the cheapest pizza in town, but also worth the price.

Another wonderful hole in the wall restaurant. Incredible pizza, breads, and pasta. Great prices, and a great owner. Not glamorous, but make up with awesome foot and service. I've been going here for over a decade, and look forward to many more!

Sad to say, Tried it based on reviews here on Yelp and was SORELY disappointed. I got a large w/ Pepperoni and Sausage and an order of their "cheese breadsticks". Taking it home in the car, the aroma was maddening. The boxes weighed a TON and I figured I was in for quite a treat. There's one thing I will say about them that's positive... they are NOT skimpy w/ toppings. There were MANY pepperonis, and SO much cheese. The bread and the pizza both probably had 3 or 4 more times the cheese that you would get from any other place in town. Hence the problem. I loves me some cheese... but that was a bit much, even for me. The cheese was so overwhelming, you get no idea about crust or sauce at all. For me at least there should be twice as much cheese as sauce, but not 4 times or 5 times. In the end I paid about $23 for 1 large and an order of bread, and all but 2 pieces and 2 breadsticks went into the trash. Perhaps it's just me, but I don't like it, and I'm the kinda guy that will spend $30 on a pizza without batting an eye.... if it's something special.
