There is no denying that the beer selection was generous. I loved the Honey Sriracha Wings......very tasty. The good news stops there. I felt like I was in a high school cafeteria with the uncomfortable benches and picnic style tables. I ordered the Trio, consisting of turkey, Corned beef brisket, and pulled pork. All of my food was cold and the meat was chewy and tough. The sides don't rank much better. The mac'n'cheese was pretty boring. The stuffing aired on the side of trying to be too different....with that said, it wasn't very good, and also, cold. A couple of people at the table said the turkey chili was cold and doused with copious amounts of Cumin which you could smell five feet before it got to the table. If I can figure out how to make a meal out of the wings, I will be back. Otherwise, not. Service was good....our waitress was very attentive. If Brown Iron Brewhouse wants to be a BBQ joint, they need to work on fine tuning that. I hope the figure it out soon before word of mouth gets out.

We went as a family pretty close to when they first opened. We went early on a Friday night, so we had no issue parking in that tiny parking lot. It looked promising. We arrived for dinner with three little kids and had to wait about 20 mins to be seated even though half of the tables in the dining area were empty and no one else was waiting. We were seated right next to the bar at a high table, not the best place for little kids. The bar area was also packed and we had tons of people standing around our table basically touching us trying to get drinks (the dinning room still had lots of empty tables). This got worse and worse throughout the evening. Their computer system kept going down, so the waitress said they couldn't even get us drinks while the computers are down...it took forever for our food to come because the computers kept going down. We had the BBQ corned beef brisket, which was not good. It was cooked corn beef with some BBQ sauce on it. It maybe the worst brisket we've ever had. The bacon cheeseburger and fries was OK for $11. Kids meals- chicken tenders and mac n cheese- were OK. The service was not good, the waitress seemed stressed out and were not very friendly. They also changed our waitress halfway through our meal who was just as stressed and unfriendly. The food was just brought to our table and set down and then no one came back to check on our table. They probably couldn't get through because there were so many people packed around our table. The hostess was very busy socializing instead of doing her job. No manager in sight. They had a fabulous beer selection. The screens showing the status of each keg was pretty neat. Hopefully they work out the issues with the computer system (pen and paper are a good back up) and the manager figures out how to seat customers in the dinning room. I would also recommend that they remove the high tables from the bar area, it is too small and crowded to actually eat there. Plus the bench seats at the high tables are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat on.

Ok let me start out by saying the beer selection is on point. Not one single issue here at all a great selection of beers and hard ciders if that's your thing. But my issue with Brown Iron are two things. First the parking is a HUGE issue and I have to assume that will be address in the future. The food well is was just ehhhh my sister had the salmon that was squishy and me, my brother in law and mom all had the ribs that were chewy. The side items were ok and we had the poutine which was also ok. I'm hoping that since this place is still kinda new and are working out the kinks. I have really high hopes for this place and look forward to trying it again in a few months after the issues have been addressed.

Sat outside on the patio which I liked a lot. You can play corn hole with a beer while waiting for food. We had 4 different entrees and all were very good. The only thing I would say is that a veggie should have been included on a couple of dishes. Meat and fries does not quite make it which is why I gave it 4 stars Fantastic assortment of beers from all over and the ability to purchase a flight for $2.50 each in case u want to try something. Would definitely go again

Cheap over cooked food. I ordered the ribs, they were the worst i have every tried to eat. They were over cooked, salty and had the consistency of beef jerky. The "beer hall" reminded me of a loud school cafeteria. We will not be back, and I don't recommend this place.

The atmosphere is great and the band sounds good. It's very busy. We ordered the parmesan fries again but it took 45 minutes to get them. Even though they were just warm, the fries still taste great. I'm surprised. We're sitting at the bar. The best bartender is Steven. Make sure you get him. He's attentive and remembered us from the last time we were here. He even remembered the drinks we had. Things people appreciate. Good job to Steven! If it wasn't for him, they would of gotten 3 stars. When sitting at the bar, you tend to talk to a lot of people. Beer snobs love each other. It's great. Unfortunately, I'm not a beer drinker but my husband can talk brew to anyone. I can talk to the woman that also drink beer. Thank god they have a full bar!

I really wanted to like this place!!!! Now the food, it was absolutely delicious. The staff, they were not so great. The first time I went, somewhat slow. The second time I went, I was with all the women from my work. One of our bosses was taking us all out. We were given the lunch menu and wanted to see the regular menu. She gave us the regular menu as well. When we all went to order, she said we had to order off of the lunch menu. Why give us the regular menu and then say nothing and act annoyed and surprised when we want to order off of it? This is what I wanted from the regular menu: A sandwich: turkey, tomato, lettuce, bacon, swiss, onion sauce She said it wasn't on the lunch menu so I couldn't have it. I said ok, can I have the turkey sandwich off of the lunch menu? Yes, ok with tomato? yes, ok with lettuce? yes, ok with bacon? yes, ok with swiss? yes, ok with onion sauce? no, I can't put it on the sandwich but I can put it on the side.... ok.... So basically I ordered the same sandwich from the regular menu. This waitress was very short with us, took forever to get us drinks, and was only decent after she found out the boss was paying for everyone. We all agreed the service sucked and we would rather be taking shots with the waitresses at Art & Jake's (we went there for lunch last time). And we will be returning to Art & Jake's next time. We thought we would try something new. Bad idea.

One of my favorite spots in northern Macomb. We frequent here both as a family and as a couple. Great beer selection that rotates frequently and better than average BBQ. Food Highlights: Burnt Ends, Beast Mode Burger, Honey Sriracha Wings, & Bacon Blue Fries. Beer Highlights: Whatever stout is on Nitro :)

We had high hopes for this place but were pretty disappointed. Service was s-l-o-w even though we came at an odd time and it really wasn't busy. Food came quickly but was not that great. I had the burger with pulled pork and bacon which came out overcooked and with cold fries. My husband got the brisket with fries and baked beans and proclaimed it the worst brisket he's ever had. The BBQ sauces were ok at best- all tended to be sweet. The inside was an interesting setup with large, cheap looking picnic tables throughout. The patio seemed to still be under construction and there was a room at the front that looked like some sort of retail but was full of assorted construction stuff and not open. I don't think we'll be back. Nothing stood out as great and it just had an odd atmosphere. If you're going to try and do BBQ so close to Bad Brad's, it needs to be flawless and top notch.

Holy crap. I'm here, as I write this, home visiting my parents. We only came here because it's the closet thing we thought would have beer that isn't bud light. COME HERE. The list of beers is epic. The pretzels are amazing and the staff super friendly. We're here for a week and we WILL be back.

3 STRIKES YOU'RE OUT!! We have tried once again. Really wanted this to be good!!! After waiting 45 minutes for our food..Did not even get what we ordered!! Horrible service! Rude Waitress!! Never should customers have to flag down a server to order a drink! They are losing so much money!! Do not understand why it is so hard for this restaurant to get it together. Brewery still not open. They need a new cook! Food is so substandard!! Really sad!!

  • Kierra S.

Good beers on tap. Needs a better food menu. I think maybe they should just make this a bar. I think they tried to make it look like a nice dinning restaurant but it really is not the place to go and eat.

Where do I start.....our server was perfect, her name is Jessica. She was wonderful! Then came drinks, we had a party of 10....everyone loved the choices. But above and beyond everything was the food! We tried 4 appetizers, everyone was better than the next! I was Leary of the wings, boy was I wrong! I've been craving them ever since! 4 of us got ribs. They're awesome! But if you're looking for boiled, fall off the bone ribs....not here! These are smoked, with a nice char & a ton of flavor! I could go on and on....we will Definetley be back! But if you want food in 10 minutes or less.....it's not your spot! This is real food. It's not microwaved crap, so go have a drink, place your order & relax! It's 100% worth the wait! We went back again on March 5....the food was even better than the first time!!!!

Overpriced, food and beer. The food is average at best. This place will likely fail because of this alone. Was there recently for oktoberfest where they offered on website a 10% discount for wearing authentic german attire. When I wore in one of my grandfathers trachten plaid shirts they vehemently fought with me and said it looks just like a regular shirt. It was embarrassing and I will never again go to Brown Iron because of this incident. It made me feel that they acted like a prima-donna and they were really special and that I should feel privileged to be at their establishment. Not my kind of place. I would give no stars if I could. Laughable to some extent because they know nothing of Oktoberfest and they come off all high and mighty about it.

  • Kate G.

Horrible service. Hostess was rude and never smiled. Waitress did not return to the table until we finished our food, and it was not busy. Prices are unreasonable. That being said - the food was tasty. The atmosphere was nice - a large outdoor area. If they changed prices and improved staff, I might return.

Sorry, but I have to take away 1 star. After my second visit and a chance to sample more of the food, I feel there is some improvements to be made. First they need the kitchen to be more organized. While there, I watched someone in the kitchen just keep putting salads in the window not paying attention to how many and pushed one right through to the other side on to the floor. Where is the expediter? I'm not sure because the kitchen seemed to get overwhelmed at some point and was taking longer than I would expect to get our meals. I had ordered a Village salad with chicken and my husband got the half slab of ribs with cole slaw and mac & cheese. All of these were either not being cooked or were being warmed up, so why so long? My salad looked nice with the exception of the chicken, such a tiny amount of over cooked chicken for $4. My husband enjoyed the ribs and cole slaw, but we were both really disappointed with the mac & cheese. The noodles were mush and it tasted like rewarmed Kraft Mac & Cheese, wait not even that good. So disappointing, I was looking forward to the pretzel crusting, but I couldn't get by the lack of flavor. Oh well, good thing is they are new and I'm sure still making adjustments. We'll go back again, the beer selection is amazing, the bartenders are friendly and I'm sure they will figure out the food thing sooner than later.

Came during Octoberfest i thought there was a different menu. First time here. TV's every where to watch sports which is nice. Nothing special. Food was ok. Nothing to brag about. Beer was ok. They didn't have any of there own beer on tap. Might try again next month.

Well I have waited a long time for Chef Deni from the one & only Lazy Bones Smokehouse to get out to Northern Macomb County! And yes that day, today has arrived. Official Grand Opening is Friday 1-23-15 at 3pm But today was the "Please Be Patient Open to the Public for training day-week. First of all the parking lot is already too small for the 1st week crowds, but nice save by the new owners complimentary valet! Walked in to this newer building -renovation, lots of natural daylight, tvs & seating, tables, benches, picnic style as well. They claim to have 66 brews on tap, plus the eventual patio will seat another 35-50 plus a bar out there too. The very shy host & hostess greeted us & sat us promptly, Stephen our server showed up, with a smile & very enthusiastically spoke of the smoked-grilled meats & the always fresh prepared to order salmon. We split a 3 meat combo + 2 sides $17 Smoked Corned Beef Smoked Turkey Pulled Pork All 3 were Very Moist & Tender enough to cut with the side of my fork and although I did not take a tour & see the smoker, the meats had the famed smoke rings & flavor. The 2 sides we chose were french fries & pretzel stuffing...yep you heard right pretzel stuffing, which paired so nicely with the light gravy that was on the smoked turkey The place has a multitude of TV's mounted here -there & everywhere at a very nice position angle. The crowd that showed up today were all smiles & I chatted with 2-3 locals & they were excited to have a place of this caliber, away from Hall Rd. Peeked into the kitchen window, saw Chef Deni hard at work with a very large crew. Yea . .it was opening day...no kinks, no alarms it was all good in Washington Township. Cannot wait for another visit & hopefully TO SAVE room for dessert.

Beer tumbled all over me, but that was the worst it got... Yeah, that happened. What a doozy, but at least they comped the first round. Left there tonight feeling like I had a great meal. I ordered a half slab of ribs, cole slaw n smoked beans - I win. I'm a big eater and I ate 2 ribs, shared one and left with a quarter of a slab. The smoked beans were my favorite!! Don't blow it, order that as a side. The cole slaw was cut like ramen but very light and tasty. BF ordered the salmon, lightly breaded, dank. Bacon brownie sundae deliciousness to top it off... Huge chunks of bacon, we win again. Try this place out and forget all those hangry reviewers. OH and start with the cheese curds! Awesome blossom :)

So I'm trying some thing new. I'm writing as I eat the meal with my family we are now having there French onion soup which really lacks in favor the croutons were a little burnt which caused the soup to have a slight burnt flavor and the stock wasn't reduced enough. Could of use a little more onions also. I also had the ribs thought they were a little over done and dry,not juicy like they claim. Chicken was a nice flavor but I little bit dry the coleslaw was very very tasty I come back for the coleslaw. The sandwich I had was good. The ribs were very dry not as good as Bad Brads. The high point was our waiter Justin top notch. I can't say I would bring a group or good friends

I started to write this when I was there because I was so upset at the situation but I didn't have the time to finish so here you go: "I'm currently sitting here waiting for appetizers that we ordered 35 minutes ago from the bar. We got sat at a table and have yet to be greeted by anyone. Ok finally the appetizers came and were thrown onto the table with no other words. That was the last straw, we told the waiter we were leaving and his response? 'Oh good, you have no idea how much that helps me out.' What?! You have a table of 7 sitting here wanting to throw money at you and enjoy my Mom's birthday and you have been so unhelpful and rude that I don't care that this is a new establishment but a smile and an apology is all that we are looking for." The management did finally come to our table and take the appetizers off the bill and give us a gift certificate but she still didn't act apologetic in any way. New in the business or not this is not how you treat your customers. Only go here if you want to sit at the bar for drinks because I think that's the only thing this place has going for it. The ambiance is also something to be desired...

Let me start off by saying that there are a lot of overly harsh reviews on here. My wife and I almost bypassed this place for lunch because of them, please don't make that mistake. All of the 1 star reviews by people who have very few Yelp reviews makes it smell like a bit of a smear campaign to me. What we found was a very nice place with good food and a fantastic beer list. The service was very good as well. We split the Burnt Ends appetizer that was great in taste and portion. My wife had the turkey sandwich which was very moist and flavorful. The house made pretzel bun was killer as well. I had the brisket sandwich also served on a pretzel bun. The brisket was moist and tender and overall good. I will admit that I was a little jealous of my wife's turkey sandwich. We washed them down with 2 awesome craft beers. If I lived closer to this place, I would be here all the time. In fact I may start making excuses to go out that way!

Disappointed after I've heard many good things from family and friends. Maybe I ordered the wrong entree to be impressed... I ordered the pulled pork dinner. The coleslaw was brought out first as a salad course I guess so when my food was brought out it was a plate of meat and beans. Would have rather ate my coleslaw among my entree. The pork had a lot of large pieces of fat and the beans were a odd mixture of a few undercooked chickpeas and chunks of meat. Cheese cake for dessert was delicious, but the size portion for the price was disappointing. Service was good, very accommodating to our large party. Even re-sat us at tables with real chairs since the benches would not have been comfortable for the two pregnant women and the person with a bad back in our party. Highchairs hard to use with a highchair cover FYI.

Been here numerous times and the service is always lacking, slow and unprofessional. I don't get the point of the beer keg tv's considering you can't read them unless you're standing right under them. Beers are expensive so it'd be nice if there were more affordable options. The food is above average but the overall experience is severely lacking.

I went here a couple weeks ago and had beer and appetizers with family. They have a great selection of beer and reasonable prices. Nicki (spelling?) the bartender was GREAT! Her knowledge of different beers was impressive - probably the best of anyone I've met that aren't the actual brew masters. Plus, her service was excellent. The seasoned fries are the best I've ever had. The truffle fries at Big Rock in Birmingham are still the best truffle fries we've ever had. The fries at Brown Iron are different and have Adobo (?) seasoning on them. We really liked the patio atmosphere and people near us were very friendly. I look forward to going back soon!

I wanted to love this place. I patiently waited from the time I read they were going to build through the build and even for them to work out new opening kinks before visiting so it is with sorrow I write the following. Parking: Its true, parking is not sufficient however if they don't make severe changes it is not going to be a problem. The restaurant was almost half full and we got the last parking space. Beer: I am not a connoisseur so I have nothing to impart but the screens showing how much is left of each variety was pretty cool. Food: The corned beef was the most edible thing we had but nothing to write home about as I make the same quality in my crock pot. The mac and cheese and baked beans were different in texture but not flavor, both were a so so so very dry glop. Then there was the poutine aka french fries with gravy and cheese. The fries tasted like the oil / grease had not been changed (since opening the business) topped with a can of Franko American gravy and (once again) so so dry tasteless queso curds. We finished the corned beef and nothing else leaving the restaurant hungry. Service: We went on a Friday about 4pm hoping to avoid the inevitable problems when any restaurant is slammed. No complaints. He was informative, accommodating and personable while not trying to be overly friendly palsy walsy. Perfect balance. Ambience: Its a warehouse with picnic tables. Not really sure of the demographic they were trying to appeal to. While it makes no sense what so ever, based on the result, I would say it would most appeal to a rowdy underage beer crowd.

PATHETIC & DISGUSTING. Allow me to list the reasons why: 1) The food is TERRIBLE. It tastes gross, is over seasoned, served cold & takes over an hour, regardless of what you order, to arrive. Not to mention, another reviewer went to the hospital with food poisoning & e.coli after eating here! Look up Kyle T's review under the "not recommended" section. 2) The atmosphere is non-existent & is reminiscent of my middle school cafeteria. Whoever designed & decorated this place, messed up severely. It's hideous. 3) I observed one of the owners breathing down the necks of the bartenders while they were pouring beer & belittling them & rolling his eyes! Seriously? As a customer I should not be seeing that & learn to treat your employees with a little respect! They have a terrible reputation around Washington already & I got to see why first hand. 4) Parking is a hazardous mess! The lot is smaller than the building & there's people parking up & down side streets like crazy, it's an accident waiting to happen. I give this place 2 years tops before they close.

Great place , good food & cold beer...After reading the other posts I'm a little baffled by the comments. Most of those issues must have been addressed because I didn't experience any of that. Bartender was nice, food was served in a timely fashion and they have complimentary valet parking. It's was a little loud but it a beer garden not a semi fancy sit down restaurant. This place will be big hit this summer with the huge outside patio. Overall it's a nice place , I had a good experience with the staff & I'll be back. Ps they have over 100 beers on tap.

I visited BI during it's flagship week and I must say, our server was cool under pressure. His name was Dante and he was professional and friendly, without being creepy and annoying. Big plus for that. It was balls to wall busy, but we were never made to feel rushed, even when we took forever choosing beer samples. We ordered apps and mains, all had a little wait, but it was BUSY. The in-house pretzels were warm and soft and had the right amount of salt. I enjoyed the mustard with them. Still craving them! The soup came out with the main dish, which doesn't bother me as much as it does other people. I ordered the pretzel crusted salmon with house fries and grilled veggies, it was wonderful! Salmon was seasoned well and the crunch of the pretzel crust was pleasing. The grilled veggies were full of flavor and still firm, not overly cooked. The house fries were also well seasoned and tasted like real potatoes, not frozen from a bag fries. Other orders at the table included; Heaven on Rye sandwich (huge thumbs up from this guy), Hot Brown turkey and a Cobb Salad. Everyone enjoyed their food and beer. I agree, the place is big and loud, but it adds to a sense of community. It's a beer-hall, and it's only been open a couple of weeks, what do you expect? I expect that they are learning with each lunch/dinner service as to what works and what doesn't. I expect that they are listening to customers and trying their best. I expect that they will have a great first year and many more to come! We are planning our next outing to Brown Iron already. I'd recommend BI for anyone who likes; craft beer, great food, friendly service and a lively and fun atmosphere. You can sample craft beers, eat some really good food and have loud laughs here without feeling like you're making a scene in front of hipsters.

The Brown Iron Brewhouse opened today to the public. Myself and two others visiting this afternoon to sample new beers and their menu. Of the extensive beer list, there were many name brand drafts and very well priced at that. The samples of beer were well priced and served in small snifters. The service was a little hectic, people seemed confused and their FOH managers seemed very stressed. Cindy was our server, she was very nice, very prompt and handling the opening rush very well. Beers and Service I would give a 4 Star for opening. Now the food. Bacon and Artisan Cheese Plate : Mixed reviews between all 3 of us. Not very elegant for the price. The cheeses were a white cheddar, blue cheese, and parmesean. The pickled veg tasted either premade from a big jar, or just made very simply in a basic brine. All in all. none of us liked the vegetables. The server also did not explain the 15$ platter of mess infront of us. However I won't talk ill of someone on the first 2 hours of opening their dining room, So that was not expected. The Brat Sandwhich- no complaints from my buddy taste wise, however it was sliced on a bias and put on a bun which made it hard to eat. Half slab of ribs - My lady friend got the ribs she was craving. To her dissapointment they were not fall off the bone tender nor were they anyhere near "smoky" enough. The taste was decent as well as the apple bbq sauce. She really loved the roasted assorted vegetables that came with it. Smoked Corned Beef Brisket - This dish was for me. I love corned beef , mustard, and anything the like of it. So I immediately ordered it. Unfortunately it wasn't served with the advertised mustard on the menu which was a disappointment. Ignoring that and going for the heinz mustard on the table, I ate it. This corned beef was so absurdly salt I could not even stomach it. I love salt to an unhealthy extent. I couldn't eat it. It was smoky, It was juicy, but it was so ungodly salty that I chugged my water after a couple bites. I also had the beans with it. Pit smoked beans. They were very good, It was the only part of my meal I truely enjoyed. Mac and Cheese - All 3 of us had "Baked Mac " this mac and cheese tastes like the nostalgia. Mainly because it reminds me of WaWa gas station mac and cheese. Gritty cheese, Luke Warm, Overcooked noodles. My buddy describes it as " the summer time mac and cheese you would get out of a foil pan at a family reunion." Last point. The seasoning. Their was this seasoning on everything. It was on my buddys fries, my mac and cheese, my meat, the other's ribs. It seemed like a rib rub. redish, pepper, salt, little spicy. but it was on everything. I tried one of his fries and it tasted just like my corned beef brisket, except I had enough salt on my brisket for the entire table. I don't understand the seasoning, in the picture you can see redish dust all over my plate. It isn't a garnish. Nor a elevator of the dishes, so it seems out of place. Overall. I like the beer selection and price. I like the attentive staff. But as a group of 3 none of us had any food to speak highly of. The food has potential but needs to be executed in a different manner. Im rooting for this place and I hope the food is stepped up because I would love to be a weekly customer.

This place is a solid 4.75. It's got a great communal atmosphere, great food and a really excellent beer selection. We talked to the owner a bit and he really pulls out the best of the Michigan brew spirit: locally sourced food, local beer and solid folks looking to have a good time.

I finally got over here today and discovered they had a Shorts tap takeover. Happily we enjoyed some great BBQ. My group had the burnt ends and poutine with smoked meats as starters. It seems that the brisket here only comes as pastrami or corned beef, but I couldn't have been more pleased with what I ordered. The poutine dish was very nice, gravy and cheese curds go great with their seasoned brewhouse fries. I had a heaven on rye sandwich (their version of a Reuben) and I was again a happy camper. Item was served with gardenia (just like I recall from Lazybones dishes) and more fries. Friend had the pastrami dinner - I had a slice and it had a nice peppery flavor, and was quite different from the shaved smoked corned beef that was on my sandwich. Spouse had a pulled pork sandwich - it was OK, but didn't really wow me. I like that it comes out with seasoning on it and you can add your own sauce. I truly feel that sauce is a personal decision. Sauces were limited to honey garlic (sweet and could use more garlic), applewood (very sweet but my 5 y.o. loved it), and spitfire (kinda like Famous Dave's?) which I liked a lot. My kid ate half of my sandwich and a ton of fries, so she was a happy customer as well. Service was OK, cost was average in my opinion. If you was cheap BBQ - grill at home. This chef knows his craft, and I will most definitely be returning.

Despite the comments or reviews I've heard from others I was pleasantly surprised today on my visit to Brown Iron. The food was above average and the beer selection was top notch. The only constructive feedback I could present is that the bartenders and servers be better trained at talking about and knowing the beers that are on the menu. Otherwise I will be happy to be a repeat customer!!!!

I'll write this review with a few caveats. I did not try the food as my man and I waited 30 minutes to be seated and then were told it would be at least that much more. They were looking at an hour and a half wait by the time we left for people arriving. That says to me that they need more seating and a more organized service. The parking lot is also woefully small for that size of a venue. The space itself feels like someone tried to hold an impromptu picnic in a still being renovated space. The bar area was nice, but the picnic table vibe isn't doing them favors, especially when so much seating area is being wasted. As for the beer list, they have a ton, and for someone who likes the standard IPA, stout, or lager, you're set. For anyone looking to try something more unique or out of the standard range of craft beer, you should probably look elsewhere. I love Belgians, Flemish Sours, Hefeweizens, and unique beers, and I had 4 on the whole 50 some beer long list to choose from. I'd like to go back and give it another shot, but maybe go on an off hour so I don't have to wait so long.

I am definitely a BBQ and craft beer kind of guy. I have spent a lot of my life eating and drinking from both categories. When this place opened up I was really excited to check it out. It seemed promising... Until I walked in the front door. First of all I have to agree with one of the other reviewers here...if I had to "summarize" the place had a "plastic" vibe too it...very cheaply assembled and no thought put into the overall decor. If you like eating in a fast food atmosphere this may suit you but I prefer a little bit of atmosphere and I would not return just based on that alone. But moving onto the food...got salt? Seriously...is salt the main ingredient here? That is all I had on my palette the entire meal. BBQ is not fall off the bone by any means... You would think that with Bad Brad's right around the corner you would not even consider opening a BBQ joint unless you were on par or at least even comparable to them. The servers are clueless with the menu and the craft beer list. I had seen a few I had not tasted and when I asked about them they could not tell me the difference between a local Founders beer and a Bud Light. At the end of the day if you are going to open a place that serves BBQ and Craft Beer...put some thought into it. There are so many better options locally throughout Rochester and Shelby...what were you thinking? Will NOT return.

Disappointed again! Came here when they first opened and chalked up the poor service and cold food and to being "new" and busy. Came again about 6 months later and equally, if not more, disappointed and it wasnt even That busy! Slow service, cold food, and disappointment. Waited 15 mins looking at beer menu only to find out my top 4 choices were sold out and not properly marked on beer menu. Just sad because this could be a cool place.

Two stars only because I had decent service. I'm not a picky person. It just opened so I'm not worried about a wait. I got the wings for an appetizer. There were 9 wings.. small wings to boot, that costs $7.50. Maybe I'm cheap but that's a rip off. I got the trio.. corned beef, pulled pork, and turkey. Which costs around $17.50. The trio of no flavor I'd call it. I'd assume the meat would have something extra special like smoked or whatever but the turkey had some store bought gravy on it which was a disappointment. The corned beef was nothing special and the pulled pork had nothing special about it either. Seemed more like Gordon food service reheated food. To kick it all.. it was small portions. It was served with 2 sides. I got the house fries- which could all fit in my hand and a salad. Salad was fresh so there's a couple of points but the ranch dressing tasted watery. My wife got a burger, she enjoyed it. (Hard to mess that up) it cost $11 as I recall. I'll give this place another chance in 6 months. Like I do with every restaurant. If all else fails it's not a bad place to meet up with friends for drinks

I came in with a party of seven. We sat at the bar as we waited for a table. At the bar, the bartender served overflowing beers that made a mess on the bar top. We placed an order for appetizers, which arrived 40 minutes later. When our party was called, we were given a long bench table near the window of the restaurant. The underside of the bench has metal bars that require you to squeeze your legs together to avoid the pain of hitting your knees on the metal. The benches are not secured to the ground, creating a strange balancing act with your benchmates. While sitting at the table, our future waiter dismissed our party and neglected to greet us, ostensibly because some of us already had a beer. After sitting at the table for 15 minutes without a greeting from a server, a member of our party approached the hostess, asking for service. The hostess along with another employee responded dismissively to our request. We then returned to our table where we sat for another 20 minutes during which our server stopped by our table for three seconds, during which he refused to make eye contact and ultimately skirted away before any of us could order. We sought a manager to complain. The manager fully refunded our bill and provided us with a gift card among a laundry list of excuses for our bad experience. This took place as our appetizers, now 40 minutes since we ordered, were dropped off by the waiter. Before the waiter left, he asked us if we wanted to order anything, 35 minutes after we were sat at his table. All in all, this restaurant needs lots of work. It was not one bad employee but rather a culture of disrespect and incompetence among the staff.

Went for the first time on Wednesday, great draft beer selection! 65 beers to choose from, very good list detailing the ABV and IBU for all beers. Didn't try and food this trip. -1 star for the picnic tables (back hurt after 30 min) All in all I will be back to try the food. But will ask to be seated elsewhere.

Would like to give it more stars. Sat at the bar, drinks were quick. Good took a long time. They need a new kitchen manager. Could see three cooks standing around. When the house was full. Reminds me of a place that is going to be busy for a year or so because it is new. Then with the service being slow gonna close . Hopefully they will turn it around.

Let's start of with a brewery, that does NOT brew it's own beer? Need I continue? Valet parking at a brewery...again very odd and uncomfortable as I do not like to valet my car. Walking in we felt like we were in a high school cafeteria, picnic tables scattered amongst the awkward layout and weird atmosphere. It's like a big box with cheap seating scattered around. Yes they do have 64 beers on tap, well actually not all where tapped when I went. Onto the food, pretty bad. Started with a cheese dip, which was cold and not tasty. Then came the full slab of ribs, tough, salty, and the same seasoning they seem to put on absolutely everything. The sides even had that seasoning on it. My friend had the beast mode and figured why it was called the beast mode was due to needing to be a beast to get through the toughness of a supoosidly medium rare burger (overcooked to welllllllll done) I get it, you just opened. Service is expected to be shaky, but food quality and atmosphere? Not sure what these people where thinking. Won't return.

I've been here twice so far, and it will not be the last of my visits. Food was GREAT, and I've heard from my peers the same response. 60+ beers on tap!? Such a great way to try new brews that you've never tried before. Definitely will be back!

Holy cow, where do I start? Despite the fact I had already heard the food here was "ok" at best from someone who had already been, my wife and I were still looking forward to enjoying a few brews from their large selection, but not really expecting much to eat other than "bar food". Yikes! What a disappointment. The night was an exercise in frustration, beginning with no less than the trip into the parking lot. Not a single parking space to be had within blocks...there is clearly no way this tiny parking lot can handle the capacity of patrons stated on the wall. Should be interesting during special events and holidays, such as the upcoming St. Patrick's Day. I'm sure the locals will be thrilled to have cars parked all the way down their streets. After being seated, another inconvenience quickly becomes painfully obvious: nowhere in the entire restaurant is a place to hang your coat. Normally this wouldn't be a big issue, but with open bench seating at picnic tables, our party of six was struggling to manage where to put all our puffy mid-winter gear, and then keep it from continually falling onto the floor. Next was the beer menu, in all its 6-point font glory. With the low lighting, my 40-something year old eyes struggled to read the microscopic print. Hey Brown Iron, thanks for making me feel old as I covertly pull out my phone flashlight... Maybe they had good reason for cramming everything on one side, as opposed to a larger font on a double-sided page? Understaffed for the busy evening that we were there, the service was a slow, clunky mess as we watched the wait staff struggle to find things on their fancy iPad ordering system. Drinks... My wife ordered a beer that apparently they had just run out of. After waiting 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive, they finally brought her a half-filled glass, with an apology and a promise to remove it from the bill. Kids ordered lemonade, but after initially smelling it (we test all kid drinks first) this initially tricked our noses into thinking some bleach or cleaner had somehow had gotten into the cups. After a couple awkward trips back and forth, a taste-test revealed they had simply run out of lemonade mix and we received plain water. Then it was a trip off to the restroom with my 5-year old guy, only to discover they were 100% out of paper, with no spare supplies in sight. Had my wife or mom not been present, his reluctant trip to the ladies room to save the day would not have been possible. Pretzel appetizers were very good, and you get a generous amount of dipping sauce for the three pretzels you receive. Not sure they're worth the Tiger Stadium price we paid, but apps always seem to be overpriced. Food entrees were par at best, but I'll comment specifically on a couple dishes. First, the ribs. They were tender, but at second glance seemed under-cooked as they were pink completely through. The "mostly-friendly" manager stopped by to tell us that the apple wood they're smoked with gives them their distinctive pink color (she'd been asked about this before). Fair enough...but after getting through the thick layer of fat, the meat flavor was ok, but mostly these were a disappointing, bony, gristly, sticky mess. These are not your mother's fall-off-the-bone ribs, despite the fact she said they were smoked for 16 hours, which was surprising... Next was my burger - I got the Spicy Pig - a burger topped with a helping of pulled pork. I ordered it medium rare with bleu cheese. This burger had the potential to be awesome. The flavor was there, but with a dry, hard pulled pork topping, and the well-done hockey puck burger, it was a let-down to say the least. Ordered seasoned fries, which of course came plain. Maybe there's a bug in that fancy iPad ordering app. The shocker here for me is the word on the street is that chef Deni from Lazybones runs the Brown Iron kitchen? Lazybones has the absolutely hands-down best BBQ in town, so...if this is true, this hot mess of food doesn't compute with me at all. Then came the sticker shock...over $100 for a few beers and some sub-par bar food. Wow... And remember that half-glass of beer? Yep, still on the bill. The Brown Iron is a clear attempt to capitalize on two of the biggest local Metro Detroit trends: large-selection brew houses stocked with trendy micro-brews, and BBQ fare. They're late to the party on both, with not much other than a fancy 4-plasma-screen beer monitoring system setting them apart from all the others. Off to a rocky start, all the issues we had all point to a lack of attention to detail, staffing, quality control, and maybe a rush to open. Saddled by a myriad of these minor inconveniences, this place has a long way to go to earn my repeat business, but has the potential to become something much better than it currently is. Maybe wait a few months to see if some of these bugs get worked out, but for now, I'll steer clear of that tiny parking lot...

This was my first experience here, and to say the least it was not good. First off we were a party of 8 so there was a few people to keep track of but for most establishments this would not be a problem, I cannot say that about these guys. Our waitress was delayed/distracted, our order took kind of long to get to us. The food was okay, nothing to write home about, however the reason we came was for the vast selection of beer. While the beer selection was good getting it was was whole different story. We got our first round of drinks in a timely manner but after that we were lucky to see our waitress let alone get another drink. I don't even remember seeing her to ask how our food was. One of the people in our group waited at least 20 mins to get their first drink that was ordered but she only received it because she had to remind the waitress. Then it happened AGAIN!!! The same individual ordered her second drink and the waitress forgot again (while she stood around playing on her phone) when we confronted the waitress she acted as if we were inconveniencing her and she was "sorry" but it really didn't seem like it. What a disappointing experience.

Appetizers were awesome. Corned beef burnt ends a nice twist for this KC MO area native. Pretzels were awesome. Had a variety of offerings; beer brat, turkey, beer can chicken, and trio. All were great and sides were different. Pretzel stuffing -yum! Pretzel crusted Mac and cheese- not so much. Food was very good. Atmosphere--fine for a brewery but the noise level was really loud. Some sound/acoustic panels would go a long way.

Very nice selection of beer. Wait staff is helpful and polite. They have valet service, which is not needed, but a nice touch. Food is good and nicely portioned, I suggest the salmon!

Loved it! Wednesday night they feature a different brewery so we got the flight pairing special to start. They have a HUGE micro brew last. Enjoyed the beer can chicken and the smoked pretzel salmon for dinner. The service was great and not slow at ALL. We will be back!

Great atmosphere, amazing beer menu, good food and the service was excellent! We will definitely be back again. I especially love that their beer menu constantly changes-there are so many options to choose from!!! Great place to check out, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Beware of waiter Vinny. After an ok meal, when paying my bill, $33.40, I dropped $40 and asked for change. I planned on leaving a $5.00 tip, but Vinny only brought back $6.00 change and asking me if I wanted the rest of my change, 60 cents. I said no, keep it, you must really need it if you can't bring me back the correct change. So instead of the $5.00 tip he could have got, I left him $2.40 and with the 60 cents he kept, he only got a $3.00 tip, short changing him $2.00. If he does this to every customer, it could be very beneficial to him over his entire shift.

Reminiscent of a high school cafeteria - The whole look was weird and uncomfortable. Seating was horrible - TV's for sports are almost to the high ceilings - Forget it - The room had zero warm feel - VERY loud could not even hear each other at our own table. Beer list is expansive as one would expect, the server Vinny was awesome. The food was horrible - How can you screw up a burger and fries ? They managed - Bun was stale, fries over done and a medium burger was over cooked and rubbery. We will try again in the summer with hopes they have ironed out some issues - We can see the outdoor space being more comfortable - We had such high hopes.....

Great beer selection that's always fresh and always changing. Limited releases and selections are always a plus. Great business model with a cool room to boot. Give it a try, ask some questions, learn some stuff about beer, they have a very knowledgeable staff!

I don't usually write bad reviews but I was appalled. This was suppose to be a nice date night but it ended up being an overpriced picnic. Seating is cheap plastic picnic tables, feels like in a high school cafeteria, food is horribly salty, servers have no knowledge about beer whatsoever. BBQ is Def not fall off the bone, everything is seasoned exactly the same. If you want good BBQ drive an extra 30 mins and go to Slows or Redsmoke in Detroit.

The food isn't terrible but definitely needs some redirection. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Zero flavor, no sauce, nothing other than a small scoop of meat under the ludicrously huge bun. The flavorless diced cabbage (posing as cole slaw) and horribly over-salted fries did not help with the disappointment in my sandwich plate. My daughter's grilled cheese came out with one side burnt black--- but of course that side facing down in the plate. A simple, basic BBQ sauce dressing the meat (not just the over-sweet apple or honey garlic on the table), and a tune-up of the seasoning/dressing of the fries and cole slaw would have a huge impact on this rating.

Chuckle Cheese with better beer. This industrial decorating style with bolted down picnic tables is not comfortable and too loud to carry on an adult conversation. Very disappointed. It was fun trying a couple of beers. The soft pretzels were wet.

Staff is still learning, which takes away from service...but give them time, these guys will be rolling by summer. Wings are very good as is most of the food. Portions are healthy, can't complain there. The TV's are too high, after watching a game for awhile it starts to hurt, and parking sucks...but hey they are busy!

My husband and I were excited to try this new restaurant. This place has a great location and looks like it would have wonderful food. We were both VERY disappointed. The food wasn't good we both ordered hamburgers which in my opinion isn't that hard to mess up. We ordered them medium they both came well done, over salted (and I love salt), dry and chewy. The seating was extremely uncomfortable and a back breaker. The service was horrible due to the salty burger I finished my drink half way through the meal our server never came back to offer a refill, in fact we didn't see her again until it was time to pay the bill. I'm not a fussy person but I have to say this place stinks

Had my second visit 2 weeks after their opening where I gave them 5 stars. What a disappointment. How did their food get worse? I had the trio again. The pork is still solid, but the turkey was flavorless as well as the corned beef brisket. What are they doing with their bow? Doesn't seem like anything but the pork actually see the inside of it. So sad they've slid back.

Visited on a Friday night. Enjoyed the food, service was good, but the noise level was too much for my friends and I. I don't enjoy having to shout to the people I'm with or to the waitress. Unfortunately, I don't think this is something that can be fixed. There are no acoustics to absorb sound. I don't think I will go back except for a carry out.

Visited here on Friday with a group of girls. We like to try new places, especially when one opens up in our local area. We were surprised upon walking in simply due to the decor (or lack of). Seating looked cheap and was not very comfortable. The atmosphere was not pleasant, we felt like we were sitting in a big box. Waiters seemed to be overwhelmed. We ask ours some questions about the craft beers/cocktails and also about the food, they had to come back to us twice with answers. I understand you are a new establishment but you should be more prepared than that. A couple of the girls are beer drinkers and a couple prefer cocktails. My girlfriend and I ordered a cosmo and pomegranate martini-they were both absolutely disgusting and taken back. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the honey sriracha wings as well as the pretzels to start with. Pretzels were stale and the wings were drenched in an awful sauce. For dinner i ordered their shrooms and swiss burger which came out cooked wrong-I asked for medium rare and it came out well done. I did not like the taste of the meat, which was too tough as well. My friend ordered the barbecue pulled pork sandwich and said the flavor was not good at all. Nobody was impressed with the delivery or flavor of their meal. Not a great experience inside but what made this whole experience worse was that I trusted valet to take my car but somehow ended up with a ticket when they brought it to me! How do you get a ticket when you are valeting?! Definitely not a place to bring a group of girls-was not impressed at all with even one thing. We were all anticipating our first visit but were greatly disappointed to say the least. None of us will ever be back. They did not offer to do anything about my ticket either...thumbs way down and I don't feel they even deserve the one star rating I gave.

Had high hopes for this place. beautiful building outside.Food was disappointing ,wait staff was immature and unsure of there responsibilities.Decor was cheaply done even though there was hardly any? televisions were mounted way to high. You guys need to go back to the drawing board and redo the whole menu and interior of this place, I would hate to see this place go down after all the hard work and the nice location of this building . regards EMR
