Diabetics at TGI Friday

If you're a diabetic, then you must be extra careful while dining at TGI Friday. Try the salad menu at TGI Friday to keep your sugar and sodium intake in check. Soups are great to keep you full and satisfied without munching on the unhealthy greased meat-based dishes on TGI Friday menu.

Foods to Avoid at TGI Friday for Diabetics:

Sugar and sodium intake are crucial if you have diabetes. While the salads are the best option for you at TGI Friday, it is recommended to avoid the Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad containing over 1000 calories and 1,650mg sodium. Also, skip Warm Pretzels with Craft Beer-Cheese dipping sauce as it contains more than 3000mg sodium. It is wise to skip the dessert for diabetics, especially the Brownie Obsession topped with Vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and pecans.

This place is great. Been coming here for years. Breakfast and Lunch is the best time to go. The waitresses here are the best I've ever seen very professional and the manager is a great guy. They all have excellent customer service and the food is really good all around. The soups are great for the most part some inconsistencies in the soups but overall they're really good. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for the value, food, and service.

The quality of this food is about a 4.....but the fact that they have so many different options at soup makes it a 5 star place. I haven't been here in a while but they used to sell fresh pies (sugarless also) and those were great as well.

Went in to order a carry-out and the cashier took my order. All was good and was not disappointed. The take out was 2 bowls of soup on a chilly, rainy day in which it hit the spot! Nothing bad to say, it appeared crowded, quite a bit of the older generation here, so it must be good!!!!!

  • Jessica w.

To start out this restaurant is a down home kind of place. Lots of returning customers and older people like to meet here! It is not a bad thing though because it creates a comfortable atmosphere. They have 10 homemade soups daily, and they change it up everyday! The soups are delicious and there is a choice a bottomless bowl :) so if your a soup lover go for it! They also have great and affordable prices and large quantities. On Fridays they have some great lent specials with fish! All you can eat fish, a shrimp basket, and a seafood platter. all come with soup or salad and a side of macaroni and cheese! yummy! Try it out.

I love to walk in to an unknown "family" diner and be pleasantly surprised, like I was today. I hate eating alone, but had to since I was waiting for a doctor's appointment. I was met by the friendliest waitress, who didn't act like it was weird that I was there alone. She suggested the breakfast special, which was good. Standard breakfast....tasted like the eggs, bacon, toast, etc. that I would make at home. The place was clean and full of what seemed to be regulars. If I lived closer, I would come in to try the dinners. The menu was really varied...it sort of reminded me of a Ram's Horn in the choices that it offered. They advertise this as a bakery and kitchen. I bought a sugar free blueberry muffin, a peanut butter cup cookie, and a loaf of raisin bread on the way out. I was really disappointed in the muffin and cookie. They were both kind of moist (not in a good way) and gummy. The raisin bread made great toast. To sum up: Not gourmet, but clean, friendly, and pretty good quality breakfast that you won't be disappointed with.

Had lunch on Friday here. Got carryout which was ready when I arrived to pick it up. The chicken Greek wrap & dill pickle soup was delicious. Other times I had soup of the month chicken pot pie, very good! Will definitely be a regular lunch spot!

Lots of older folks tend to eat here during breakfast and brunch. I'm not exactly sure why, unless they want to clog their arteries faster or their taste buds no longer work well. The interior air quality is horrible. My clothes smelled heavily of grease and oil that lingered in the air, which isn't surprising considering the amount of fatty oils they use in all of their products. I ordered some French Toast and it was oozing with grease. They also put some kind of butter cream on the toast. The sausage patties had enough grease to lubricate a motorcycle engine. The chicken lemon and rice soup was more of a viscous paste that tasted 90% lemon (way too sour for a soup) with lots of white rice and bits of chicken. A friend ordered eggs, toast, bacon, and pancakes. I observed the same level of grease/oil used in those dishes. I took a few bites of the sausage, french toast, and a few sips of the soup and ended up throwing all of it away. It was just very unhealthy and unappealing, I had studied their lunch menu but didn't find anything that stood out. The service was great and fast, and parking was plentiful. I don't have any qualms about recommending Friars aside from the horrible interior air quality and unpalatable food, unless of course you enjoy eating grease and oil.

Food and service are good. My wife and I come mainly when we need a breakfast food fix. They have a rewards card that offers a nice incentive to keep coming back for more.

  • Lauren T.

This place is awesome! The food is great and the bakery is better than homemade. I've never had bad service here and will continue to choose Friar's for years to come. The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is because the interior is a little out-dated. Other than that, best bakery and best family restaurant.

  • William K.

I started out thinking....5 stars!! But as I've ordered there 2-3 times a week for the last couple months, I've started to think....ehhh I'd rather drive to Royal Oak and get something better. I work in the area, and was so happy to find a decent place for lunch. I can't believe how under served the Dequindre 12 mile area is when it comes to non-fast food, but its getting better. Now that I've been going here a few months, I'd say this. If you stick the American, or Greek fare, you'll do Ok. Do NOT order the Mexican dishes....their made with the greek meat, gives an.....interesting result. Their baked goods are very good. And the older lady who runs the place is very nice. Its no breakfest club (check THAT place out if your in the area...you'll be blown away). The restaurant itself is very nice, clean, well kept. Its nicer then a coney, but similar type of food.

I love Friar's. Such a great family diner. Our family has been coming here for years for good food and service. This past time we came for breakfast. The waitress was super nice, and made a point to make everyone feel welcomed. Everything came as ordered, hot, and delicious. They also have fabulous soups (in a bread bowl! Yum!) and breads/cakes to purchase and take home.

  • Lisa H.

Service was the best thing going here, but the food and cleanliness were seriously lacking. Neither of my kids would eat the potato pancakes, so I tasted them and found them way under cooked. And they had a very strange flavor. I ordered a salad, and the lettuce was definitely old. The chicken on top was also dry. We won't be back.

  • Angie B.

Always love dining here: morning, noon or night. Their soup selection is superb, as is everything on their menu. My server and bus boy tonight are Gloria and Zack. They are just as friendly and professional as any of the staff here. Come dine with them soon! --Angela B.

Down home type of place - very friendly interior and staff. You can tell there are a lot of returning diners and it serves as a family meal type place. Had breakfast and it was cheap and very good. Will return. Baked goods looked promising.

  • Brian B.

This is a great little restaurant that I've been going to lately for lunch. I've been here 3 times in the last 3 weeks and have been happy and full at the end every time. The soups here are above average and they typically have about 10 or 12 to choose from. The lunch options I've eaten have been prepared as requested each time, are plenty filling for lunch and tasted good. The prices are very reasonable.

I've come to the Friars several times over the years. It's best for those on a diet, looking to order off of a healthy menu, and those whom have had bariatric surgery. I must mention their sugar-free cherry pie is my favorite cherry pie in the world! And I'm not one to order sugar free stuff.... a family member had me try a bite once and I've been ordering it since. I don't really like a lot of their diet desserts, but again if you want diet dessert, that's what you get I guess. I am a huge fan of ranch dressing, I dislike their peppercorn southern style tasting ranch personally, so I avoid ordering anything I would want Ranch with. The soup is usually pretty good, although the last time I was there, 7/18/14 I thought the chicken lemon rice had a funny sweet taste to it, that I am pretty sure wasn't there before. Overall it's decent and they try, again it's the place to go if your on a diet, looking to order off of a healthy menu, or have had bariatric surgery.

Looking on Yelp, Friar's seemed like a great place to go for a few hungover and weary travelers. I can't even believe how awesome it was! First of all, my soup sense went off when I saw their list of soups for the day. Soup sense, activated! I had too many choices, but ended up going with chicken lemon rice, which is my favorite soup of all time. I got the cup. There should have been a larger warning on the menu because I was presented with a BUCKET of delicious soup. Oh so tasty! I also got breakfast which was very tasty. The hash browns were fried to perfection! Out server was super lovely and the rest of the staff was awesome as well. The busboys were on top of cleaning the tables and it was truly a great experience.

I was crazy about their diet desserts and diet cookies, namely the cookie delite. They taste amazing, the cookies are to die for and the diet ice cream is soft serve, and is as good as regular ice cream. Then I found out about the ingredients in the ice cream. The ice cream contains aspartame, which is linked to lots of health problems. Ok, I can deal with that. But the cookies, which are sooo good, contain margarine, and partially hydrogenated oil! They are loaded with trans fat, which are linked to all kinds of health problems. It looks like I will have to part ways with chocolate chip cookies and the diet vanilla ice cream, boo!

  • Nicole B.

Dill pickle soup and chicken pot pie soup..... Is why I come here! I could literally lick my bowls and ask for seconds but I want to move on the the main dish. I normally order their specials that have the cabbage roll, stuffed pepper, potato pancake, and all the other yummy stuff they have on that plate I forget, it's been a while! And they're strawberry pecan chicken salad is so friggin amazing! I'm going to miss this place since I moved to NYC! Service is normally well but there is one waitress that isn't too friendly when I do come there. But you forget about her anyways cause the food is just too good!

  • Nat W.

I've been coming to Friar's for over 20 years and I usually come for the fish and chips on Friday's. I've had a few meals over the years that were hit or miss, but still always went back because my family loves this place. That all changed last week. When we came in, we seated ourselves and the hostess brought us water and said shed get our waitress. She went to the bakery area and called in the back for her twice. I guess she was chatting with another waitress in the back and couldn't be bothered. We ordered and waited and waited. Then I noticed an older couple next to us who came in after us got their food. The guy said "wow, we just got here" and called the waitress by her name. The waitress said "oh its OK, you're a regular." I shrugged it off, 8 minutes later our food came. I got a breakfast special. As I went to take my first bite, there was a long, black stringy hair in my eggs. And the bacon was almost raw. They offered to make a new one, but we already waited a half hour for pancakes and a breakfast special, so I said we just wanted to leave. The waitress took my plate and we waited about 5 more minutes for her to come back. She didn't charge me for my meal, but did for my boyfriends. As I went to pay an older woman (who may have been the owner) apologized, but then proceeded to tell me that she didn't understand how I could have hair in my food when both of the cooks are bald. I asked her if she was insinuating if it was my hair (which was pulled back and not black) and nowhere near the eggs until the plate was put in front of me. She just cocked her head and I told her she can't blame customers for their mistakes and told her I'll never be back. She didn't seem to care. I'm so sad I have to stop going there because they've let it go really downhill with their customer service!

I always used to pass by this restaurant all the time and didn't realize what a great place it would turn out to be. I love a few blocks away. So many people tell me what amazing food they have and awesome service. So today I decided to take my mother out for a late breakfast and wow was I happy. The food is amazing. Service is great. The atmosphere is good too. They have fresh pies and cookies and their soups are amazing. Perfect restaurant for me. Please try it you won't regret it !

I meet a group of my friends here once a month. I usually have breakfast. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the omelets because they are alway dry and I just don't like the way they are prepared. They offer a senior's menu which is a great value and they give a senior's discount if you order something that is not on the senior's menu. I can recommend the chicken pot pie, broccholi quiche, and spinach quiche. They also have healthy choices for people who are watching the calories and carbs. The servers are great and the coffee cups stay filled. They have a huge selection of soups available and several different kinds of salads. They have fresh baked goods at the register which tempt you as you are leaving. I like the sugar-free blueberry pie. Yum! They have diet ice cream and desserts. Check with the server for specials.

Friar's has been in this location for 47 years now. Everything on this visit was OK. I got Turkey Ruben, it was OK. My Wife got a Club Sandwich, it was OK. They have a ton of soups to pick from.... I got French onion, bland broth with salad croutons & cold mozzarella cheese floating on top. The wife got cream of Broccoli..... Ive tasted better baby food. My Grandma bought lunch so I didn't complain. They have what looks like a whole bake shop full of cookies, cakes and pies for sale at the door if you like to take your dessert home I guess.

I have not been to Friar Tucks for years and it's nice to know that nothings changed. They have a great menu, with lots of healthy choices. The food was wonderful except for those veggies are very soggy and dull.

  • Matthew K.

Good food, especially for the price. We haven't been disappointed so far in the several times we've been there. Food tastes truly homemade. Lemon chicken soup is great. My wife likes the chicken pot pie. Atmosphere is very casual, and wait staff has always been attentive. Nice, small restaurant for lunch.

  • Jake A.

Friar's has ten soups every day. That's a lot of soup. While the soup is very good, you cannot survive on it alone. Ordering entrees is playing roulette here. First, if you are a restaurant ranch junkie, always ordering deep fried foods to dip in that glorious ranch that you can't seem to get at the store or at home, you are in for a sad betrayal here. It's not that delicious ranch that every other restaurant has, something is just wrong in the taste. I usually get the fish and chips, and it's a good stand by. The burgers and chicken strips though are best skipped over. My arm chair analysis is that they try to do too much here, and should scale things back a bit. Maybe 7 soups a day? Just a suggestion. Also, there is a set demographic at this place. Younger patrons will feel out of place among the endless crowd of older folks leering at them.

    (3)
  • Deborah R.

I used to grab AM take-out all the time from here & was never disappointed. WARNING: You probably will end up leaving with one or several of their baked goods displayed on the counter (c'mon, one won't hurt!), but every omelette concoction that I've tried (and I've sampled them all-omelette'o'holic perhaps?- was delicious. For the same price as the surrounding diners it would be ridiculous to not treat yourself to something as good as a Friars breakfast. My only complaint is that I ran into a roadblock substituting out hash browns for fruit & I feel kind of annoyed having to pay extra (offer a healthier option!). But besides that I'm sold.

    (3)
  • Jill C.

We love this place for the food and the bakery! They have a Weight Watchers friendly menu on the back which is hard to find. We love the 1 point ranch dressing (which we buy by the bottle!) and the 1 point a slice bread that they sell. My hubby loves the Philly Chicken wrap. Delish and heathy, can't beat that!!

    (4)
  • Susan M.

Great food and great service. I have been coming here for years and am never disappointed. If something isn't good or you don't like it they fix it asap. They also will make you "specials" that are to be seasonal only. My favorite is the turkey pretzel sandwich and it is not on the menu but they have it as a special around summer only. The staff always makes it for me and now my sister and husband always order it too. So worth it! They also have tons of sugar free goodies and lots for the sugar cravers like me. Eat good food and get dessert to go because you will be full!

Great food, reasonable prices, fast and friendly service, large variety on menu, lots of unique soup choices. This is a great choice for a casual meal. I did mot try their bakery items but they look delicious.

  • David S.

This is one of my go to places for a good old fashioned cup of chili. Add on a chicken greek wrap or michigan salad wrap, and you can leave feeling that you had a healthy meal for once. I never thought that a place like this would be in my top 5 places to eat in Warren. It just sticks to you and makes you want to return. I do not know what it is about this place but it gives me that 'your making the right choice' kind of feeling. My only complaint is that I have yet to find a dessert that I liked from their vast selection at the checkout counter.

    (4)
  • Linda M.

They have a lot of different soups every day and since I'm a big soup fan, this is a personal fave. I'm not crazy about the cabbage soup but the lemon rice soup is very good. So is the Italian Wedding soup and a stuffed pepper soup. Getting away from the soup menu (they have the daily soups listed on a chalkboard), they also have a great Chicken Pot Pie and a big selection of baked goods.

  • juston m.

this is pretty much a restaurant for the elderly set. sometimes you break even with that description and sometimes you lose. never are you blown away and in some culinary wonderland. i had lunch here. chose a michigan salad. it was good. it came with a cup of soup and there was 10 soups to choose from. the soup was alright. chicken pot pie with some premade pie topping crumbled on top. i actually think i would have preferred it without the topping. i think if i lived near this place i would have breakfast there pretty often. love, juston

Comfort food is what I think of when it comes to Friar's. I often find myself stopping in for a simple meal,of homemade soup, some bread, and a salad. The fare is nothing high-fallutin', just good home-style cooking with a number of healthier choices on the menu. They feature about ten different soups, which change from day to day, and each day of the week has a bit of an ethnic theme. The fresh baked goods are a treat for those who want to take something home. The waitstaff is always friendly, and I find myself returning there when I want some "American" food.

  • Faith K.

I eat here at least once a week for lunch. They have an awesome healthy for you menu, my favorite is the broccoli quiche. They have a ton of homemade soups and their salads are awesome with their creamy garlic salad dressing. The waitresses are always helpful with suggestions and willing to substitute things for you. Love the low fat cookie delight. Yes, it tends to be an older crowd, but the food is great.

  • Sandra B.

I haven't actually eaten "real" food here, but I have had dessert and was blown away!!! Their low cal, fat free, sugar free soft serve vanilla ice cream is amazing! It is incredibly creamy and hard to believe that it is low cal!!! Their menu offers a wide variety of low cal foods and if the ice cream is that good, I cannot wait to go back for "real" food ... not that ice cream isn't real food. Plus, this place is easy on the wallet.

The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. TGI Friday also offers gluten-free items on its menu for those with gluten intolerance.

Besides the cool name, TGI Friday also has an interesting background story of its origin. The founder of the restaurant Alan Stillman lived in a New York-based neighbourhood full of a young crowd, especially girls from the airline and fashion industry. He started the first TGI Friday restaurant in New York in the hope of meeting single women as there weren't any such public place for young men and women to meet. He invested $5000 on his own and borrowed another $5000 from his mother to buy a bar named The Good Tavern and renamed the premise to Thank God It's Friday, inspired from an expression during his time at Bucknell University.
