First time here and I'll definitely be back! Fresh homemade donuts that are to die for! My favorite food is definitely donuts. I hate chain donuts. Those aren't donuts. Those are garbage. I ordered a chocolate glazed donut. The chocolate wasn't melting off the donut and it wasn't too messy. Light and fluffy! Lots of donuts and other pastries to choose from (bagels, pastries, Danishes, etc) Free wifi! Lots of customers chat chatting and enjoying there selves. Can't wait to comeback soon. I'm all about homemade donuts!

Pretty good donuts to be had - we liked the raised glazed and the apple fritter a lot. The cake donuts were also good, and so was a cherry filled pastry. It was all homemade and delicious. It's worth the ten minute drive.

Always interested in trying Mom and Pop shops like this when I'm first visiting a city. Knapp's was good - not great IMHO. Will try some other establishments before I decide which will be my "go-to" spot.

Kind of sad that this location wasn't as great as the Downtown Rochester location. I assume they are the same owners but don't quote me on that. Maybe it was a case of the Sunday's but they didn't have much variety on my stop last weekend. It's been over a year since I've been to the Rochester location but their donuts are amazing!

I've never had better donuts. The cider crisp donut is out of this world. The lady working there is super friendly. They're cheap. I'll never go anywhere else for donuts.

Fresh donuts and convent to get in and out. The owner May is very nice and makes you want to go back! I got 2 dozen donuts for a party and they were all gone if that says anything. I would recommend this place to others

Was looking for a small mom and pop donut shop for something different. Sure got that. The blueberry cream cheese streudel is delicious. Very moist and full of flavor. The buttercream donut was divine and very creamy. It sure hit the spot. It was a little out of my way to work but was so worth it. I will be returning.

I wanted to like this place...but very slow robot service. Clean Out of the donuts I went in for. Kind of dirty. But if you need a fat cake stop in.

Best donuts in the area. Way better than the chains. They even have a selection of newspapers you can buy to read while downing the donuts. I also dig the free WiFi and multiple choices of milk from skim to chocolate. Wish they took credit cards, though.

***CASH ONLY**** The best donut shop in Troy. Hands. Down. Best bostom creme. Best cake sprinkled donuts. Best donuts. Best people working here. They still remember my name after not seeing them for two years. Best best best. However, I need to tell you about one thing other people have brought up. If you don't get here early enough in the morning, don't expect a good selection. They seem to bake enough to get them by, and sometimes certain ones, like the crullers and boston cremes, will be long gone. However, you can never know. I recommend just grabbing something else, since its all amazing.

Who here likes Sabotage by the Beastie Boys? I mean likes to the point that on the rare, glorious occasion when it comes on the radio (PROTIP: it happens more often if you have satellite radio and listen mostly to Lithium, the 90s alternative station) you have to force yourself not to drive faster and more evasively, or reach onto the roof to slap down an undercover cop car bubble light? If you do, and you're in the Troy or Rochester area, come to Knapp's with your favorite fake 70s mustache, aviator sunglasses, and crazy cop hair, stride in as you're scheming on a plan that's a sabotage, and order the best damn donut you've ever had since Krispy Kreme stopped making hot donuts now (look, I get that Penn Station NY is a lousy place to bake donuts, but there's literally no other place back near me in Jersey upon which I can depend for Hot Donuts Now). There's just one problem, beneath the utterly perfect Boston Creme donut, whose custard is thick and rich - not some processed, damn-near-liquid glop, injected into what should otherwise be a shining example of donut-based engineering. That problem: The coffee is damn near water. I mean, I've had weak coffee before but I felt the need while sipping it from its perfectly anonymous foam cup with push-in sip lid, ideally perfect for driving, to stop somewhere and buy some instant coffee to stir in and give it some oomph. It's strictly a hot caffeine vehicle (which, coincidentally, is what I call my car back home) with no personality other than something coffeelike. Maybe I got them on a bad day, but it was 8:10 AM at a donut shop. If your A game isn't there during prime breakfast hours for us working joes looking for drinkable joe, it's not gonna be there, period. That is a two-star violation right there - lousy breakfast coffee is inexcusable, even if you're outside the fresh-roast mecca of the NYC metro area. Someone call Vassilaro's and tell 'em to start shipping primo city roast out to Knapp's. I mean, look, I'm not trying to hate on the Midwest here - go look at the other reviews I wrote for awesome Detroit metro area joints from my trip - but the coffee was TERRIBLE. Still, this is worth it for the donuts. I could totally see coming to hang out here for the bulk of the morning so long as the coffee improves. Now if you'll excuse me, Bobby "The Rookie" and me have to go find and beat down Sir Stewart Wallace.

We have gotten donuts here a few more times, but I am leaving my rating at three stars because the donuts are good and service--once you actually get inside--is good. That said, they don't get an increase in stars because of weird things like this morning when hubby was there at 6AM sharp (their open time) to get the best choice of donuts and...they didn't open. He waited...6:05...6:10...6:15...nothing. He called the other location and they said "Oh gosh! Sorry! We're running late. We'll be there in 15 minutes." And they didn't arrive until...7AM! Ugh. So hubby waited AN HOUR for these donuts...and got one free donut. Something is better than nothing, I guess, but to NOT open when you're supposed to and have someone call you from the parking lot and wait an hour... Well, that's not good in my book. Thankfully it was just for family guests and not a business function that was time-sensitive.

The BEST doughnut shop in the area. Great tasting doughnuts and delicious coffee. The owners and staff are very friendly and very nice. The selection of doughnuts is very good ... best in the morning. Everything is fresh. This is a great place to go and have coffee and conversation with friends. They even have free wi-fi.

If I had done this review before my trip yesterday, it definitely would have been a 5-star review. Knapp's has my favorite doughnut of all time. Now, I've very rarely met a doughnut that I didn't like (this statement excludes the stale, less than mediocre things that a certain Canadian-based company tries to pass off as acceptable doughnuts) and have a particular passion for good old-fashioned, plain jane doughnuts, but this particular doughnut, is of the instant diabetic coma variety. It's the vanilla creme-filled, with chocolate creme on top. Oh my. Some would probably find it disgustingly sweet, and might actually keel over after eating it, but I love every evil bite of it. That said, I took a couple of friends there yesterday afternoon, after I'd gone on and on about how awesome their doughnuts were, and they made me look bad and like an unreliable source. Not nice. They didn't have many varieties left when we got there, and none of which were my coveted creme-filled. The only filled they had were custard (vanilla pudding) (meh) and lemon (double meh). I realize that it's my own fault for expecting doughnuts that had been made probably 8 hours earlier (at least) to be as good as the doughnuts I used to get on my way to work from time to time, but still. It was a let down. With that said, when fresh, their apple fritters are out of this world if you heat them up for a few seconds. Their cake doughnuts (chocolate, plain, blueberry and cherry) are outstanding, if not a little on the heavy side. The sour cream doughnuts are particularly yummy and once again, the creme-filled are effing insane. Best doughnut I've ever had. Period. If you have the means to get to Knapp's early in the day, and you're a fried-dough fan, go. Seriously. *CASH OR CHECK ONLY* *Generous Entertainment Book Coupon*

Just came home from getting a dozen of Knapps delicacies. The donuts are great but get there early because they tend to sell out; of certain choices anyway. What is especially fantastic about this spot is the lady behind the counter who is exceptional, grateful for the business, and ever patient much unlike some patrons who breath down your neck with anticipation of there anticipated yummy.
