I finally made it over to try out Five Guys this past week. At first it kind of reminded me of a Fuddruckers type place when I walked in but without all the video games and goofy stuff on the walls. The food however was worth stopping in for, but they really could have not poured about 20% more fries into my bag when I already had a ordered a large. I acutally liked the fries more than the burger, which was pretty average and something you could get just about everywhere.

Walking in to Five Guys, I am always struck by the clean, bright and shiny atmosphere. I don't know whether it's the red and white tiles, the friendly order taker or the sparse dining area with wooden chairs and tables, but the place definitely looks clean, open and inviting. The menu is pretty simple. There are regular size burgers and cheeseburgers, with or without bacon, and then smaller versions of the same. They have hot dogs, with or without cheese and/or bacon. And then there's the fries, which are divine. All toppings at Five Guys are free. In addition to the expected ketchup, mustard, lettuce and tomato, there's also grilled onions, mushroms, jalapenos or green peppers. After placing an order, you find a table and help yourself to the very large bin of fresh roasted peanuts. This is a smart and tasty idea. The burgers are consistently juicy and delicious. I order the double (regular) with cheese. There's lots of cheese, and lots of meat. And lunch usually requires several napkins. Five Guys uses 100% fresh U.S. ground beef. It's never frozen, and it is hand-shaped into patties. Likewise, the potatoes are made from 100% American potatoes. Potatoes are fried, with skins in 100% peanut oil. They are served piping hot, not too greasy and are excellent. A single order easily feeds two. I wish they made a half order.....

I thought this place was pretty good. Not something to freak out over like that hype would have you believe, but i tend to agree with some of the "best 5.00 burger there is" type reviews. Obviously it doesn't compare to the 9.00-11.00 burgers at places like red coat. But i thought it totally blew away any other fast food burger I've had (which are understandably cheaper). How could it not? they make it from fresh beef right there in front of you. I can see how quality could vary to a certain degree from visit to visit since they are building it right there for you from fresh ingredients. We've been there twice now and I thought it was good both times. The fries, on the other hand, are awesome. I can see how they might not be someone's preference, but they actually tasted like potatoes to me, which is a good thing. I eat fast food about once every 6 months, if that, but i could see myself going to a place like this slightly more often. I'd rather pay a few dollars more for a burger from here when i'm not in the mood or don't have the time for a sit down restaurant burger.

Burgers melt in your mouth. I'd hate to see a large fry because it seems like you get a basket full for a regular fry. I'm addicted!

Small fry still works for 3 people. New touch screen soda/water dispenser offers lots of variety for drinks. Great burger and fry fix!

There are a lot of things I appreciate about 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. I like that when I first walk in, I can tell it's a place that prides itself on cleanliness. It's so bright and clean even during busy lunch hours which is great to see. I love the selection here as well. I love that you can get a smaller size burger, and my boyfriend can get the larger size. I love all the various toppings you can add, and that your burger is so customizable and tasty! My absolute favorite part of five guys is their fries. I've never had their regular fries, only the cajun fries. Hands down best fries I've ever had. Love them! They are so addicting. Nice and spicy, tasty, FRESH and made to order. Oh and even the smallest order is enough to feed an army. I like the inside and how large and inviting it is to dine in with the pop machines, and various condiments, and free peanuts while you wait. They are also extremely timely and I've never had to wait too long for my order! Great place for fast and tasty food.

Highly recommended. One of the best burgers I've ever eaten and great fries to boot. Very casual. Nobody has to feel awkward about anything whatsoever or their doing it wrong.

I'll start off by saying that these burgers are not the holy grail that is In-N-Out, but I'm a fan nonetheless. If there were In-N-Outs in Michigan, I would still eat at Five Guys every so often. These burgers are pretty basic but still really good! I like that everything is made fresh. The difference between the regular burgers and the "little" burgers = 1/2 pound of meat vs. 1/4 pound of meat. I always get the little cheeseburger, which only comes with one kind of cheese: American. After experimenting with various condiment combinations, I've found that I like lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, and either mustard, A1 sauce, or hot sauce (which is not very hot). I'm not a fan of the jalapenos because they are regular raw jalapenos as opposed to pickled or grilled. Same with the green peppers; they're just raw green peppers... although the last time I went, the lady at the cash register asked my boyfriend if he wanted his green peppers grilled. The grilled mushrooms and grilled onions do get kind of annoying because they are chopped up and tend to fall out of my burger as I'm eating, but I do like grilled veggies on burgers. The fries are not the most consistent. Sometimes they are perfectly crispy; other times they are a little mushy. Luckily, I like both kinds. The cajun fries are far superior to the non-cajun variety (or "Five Guys Style" as the menu calls it). One container of "regular" sized fries is enough for two people. While you are waiting for your burgers, you can eat your fill of free peanuts. Those with peanut allergies should probably stay the hell away from this place. I haven't tried the hot dogs but am kind of tempted. UGH, now I really want a little cheeseburger STAT! Too bad they're closed right now.

Let me start by saying, I do not eat beef, or pork, therefore my review of their burger is more my friends reviews. In the past week I have been to five guys, 3 times, last week Wednesday was the first day I had ever been or heard of Five guys. Since it was a snow day, we were literally they only people there, knowing nothing about five guys, I was skepitical at the fact that we were the only ones there. The staff was friendly, taught us the menu and how to order, it reminds me of in and out burger. My boyfriend ordered the double patty cheeseburger, and I ordered the grilled cheese with pickles. We then split a fry. I was secretly please to know 4 guys were making our meal, like our own five guys army. Anyways, we sat down peanuts in hand, awaiting our food. Are you supposed to throw the peanuts on the floor? When we got our food I was in love, even though I merely had cheese slapped between to backwards buns, with pickles, it was buttery, and flavorful. My boyfriend LOVED his burger, and for less than 13 dollars for both of us, it's outstanding! The fries are great to, thick cut, super tasty, I love that you can top your fries with malt vinegar. I was so impressed, i knew my friend Chris, who is a total burger guy would love this place, so literally the next day we went back. This time however the place was packed, every table was full, and there was a line to order, for how busy they were, we still received our food in record time, and again I ordered the same thing, and he ordered a double patty cheeseburger with just tomato. His response was " This reminds me of boardwalk food, and I would eat here everyday." Today my third visit, was equally as busy, and just as fast, this time I mixed it up and ordered the veggie grilled cheese, super fresh and tasty. Long story short... maybe because I wasn't hyped up like the other reviewers, I was pleasantly surprised! I will defiantly be returning, and for the price, it is truly fresh, fast, and fun.

I was super stoked to finally be checking out this place, and I'm sure the guy behind the register could tell. When they found out we were "Five Guys" virgins, they all yelled "Hi Kate!" I loved it. The same guy that took my order came up and gave us crayons and blank index cards to draw on while we waited for our food to come up, which took no time at all, but just long enough for me to write "Burger!" in block letters with a sky blue crayon and eat a few of the complimentary peanuts. I'm no burger connoisseur, but that was one of the best burgers I've had. Not in a fancy restaurant kind of way, but in like the backyard BBQ kind of way. The difference between the Cheeseburger and the Little Cheeseburger is the number of patties, regular having two and little having one. Now that I know better, I'd just get the Little version because that was A LOT of burger for me. The Little would have been plenty and maybe I wouldn't be desperately wanting a nap at the moment. Let's cut to the fries. I got a "Regular" Cajun fry, the small size, and I'm not exaggerating when I say they gave me at least 4 potatoes worth of french fries, if not more. It could have been 6 even. It was a lot! They were overwhelming, but delicious. I don't think I'd get the Cajun the next time, but I'm glad I tried them. It was just too much of the same thing, I think. All in all, I was more than satisfied with my lunch at Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and I'll definitely be back. Chain or no chain, they know what they're doing.

Very friendly staff and in my opinion the best burger and fries! The good part is it's cheap too for the quality!

Love these 5 guys! actually it's usually 2 guys and a girl working, so I'm confused why they call it "five guys"? My burger is always great, the "bag fries" are the bomb, and best of all... the staff is always having fun, and very polite. Great energy here. Keep up the good work dudes!

Terrible tiny patty that was dry. French frys were soft and smothered in oil. No flavor at all in any of the food. Very over priced.

I don't get it, I guess. Lots of people love this place but after several tries I just don't see the appeal. The burgers and the toppings are nothing special. I like all the topping options that are all free - that is cool. The fries were decent but I have had better. Is it just me or is this place overpriced, too? I had a little burger, a little fries and a regular Coke for just under $10. If I am sitting down at a restaurant with wait staff, I'd have no problem with that price, but for what is basically fast food (just a tiny step above McD's), $10 is too much. I don't know if I'll be back ....

My husband had been telling me how much I would really like the fries here, but we kept putting it off because it is REALLY unhealthy food and some days we try to eat vegetables and whatnot. He is right about the unhealthiness level, and that's the only reason I'm deducting one star. The "regular" burger involves two patties, so I can only assume that the "little" burger has just one. We both got regular burgers and they were cooked just right, juicy but not greasy at all. I'm really picky about what goes on my burger so I LOVE that you get to ask for what you'd like added to it rather than having to try and get them to leave stuff off (if I had a nickel for every drive-thru that gave me unwanted mayo, I'd be rich). I also love that you have some fun options like mushrooms and sauteed onions, you don't get those everywhere. As a few other reviewers have said, the "regular" fries is enough to feed about 4 very hungry people. I have a serious fry addiction and even I couldn't finish half of our order. If you want to get fries, bring several friends to share them with. They're really quite yummy fries, too! They taste a lot like the hand-cut carnival style ones, I love them. This isn't gourmet food and probably won't satisfy big burger connosieurs, but I thought it was a real treat and I'll be back!

The employees here are always so nice, helpful, and seem genuinely happy to be working here. I love coming in for the atmosphere, so it is even better that the food is killer. I always get the cheeseburger with A1, mayo, and grilled jalapenos. The burger is always perfect, amazingly seasoned and delicious. Burgers can be hard to make equally wonderful every time, but after a few dozen trips over the last few years on lunch breaks with co-workers, I have yet to be disappointed. That says something about not only their food and quality control, but also the business as a whole. Highly recommend giving it a visit. It's worth every penny.

They have good burgers but way to high priced.. 2 burgers one fry and 2 drinks was almost 25 dollars. To me that's crazy!! The staff was nice and the place was clean.. just way to high on prices

I usually get a little cheeseburger with various toppings and split a regular order of fries with my boyfriend. The people who work there are typically engaging and funny. Our last visit had us talking video games with one of the guys on the line. We had just been at GameStop and picked up a few games. Plus you are usually greeted/acknowledged as soon as you walk in the door. I always find myself munching on the free peanuts too just because they are delicious. The food isn't gourmet, but if you want a step up from regular fast food joints and would rather have something freshly made in front of you then this is a great place to go. Also, they give you a TON of fries. We always do the regular size between two of us. You get the cup full of fries plus an extra scoop. Probably no need to order separate sides of fries unless you're really really hungry!

  • Ray B.

My son loves burgers and this place! Frankly I think it is overpriced and lacks atmosphere. We share fries as they are a very large serving. Appreciate the free peanuts to take the edge off as one waits, plus it keeps one occupied.

During the course of writing this review, I think I've had to start/stop about 80 times because I kept losing sight of the fact that Five Guys is a chain. (Allow me a brief rant before we go on... "Lose" or "losing" is spelled with 1 "o"... just 1, not 2 or 3 or 4... 1, like the 1 calorie in Diet Coke, and means to "misplace" or "fail in competition". "Loose" means "to free", "not tight", "flapping in the breeze", "of questionable sexual morality" and "loosing" should infer "unleashing". A "loser" is someone who uses "loose", or any form of the word, when "lose", or any form of the word, is the correct term................ OK, I'm better now.) Taken as a burger chain like McD's, BK, Fatburger, Fuddruckers et.al ., FGBF serves it's purpose (if it was not a chain, I'd be judging it much harsher). Specifically, it is a quick meal of America's favorite sandwich. It's not horrible, it's not outstanding, but at least its not the pre-made, flash-frozen, then refried or nuked burgers one gets at some of the biggest chains. And there are some other positives. They have the free peanuts for you to munch on while you wait, the toppings are free, they have Mr. Pibb, and they have malt vinegar for the fries if you are so inclined. These little gimmicks don't compensate for the primary negative... and it's a big negative... a mediocre burger. Perhaps it is just my own bad luck, but consistently I have gotten burgers that were dry and bland. Are they as bad as the hockey pucks I've been served at Bagger Dave's? No, but if I wanted mediocre, I could easily save a few bucks by getting a value meal at McD's for about the same price of the burger only, at FGBF. What I truly find curious are all the reviews and newspaper articles they have tacked on the wall extolling the virtues of themselves. I cannot connect what is being said in the articles to what I myself have tasted. Perhaps at the original FGBF, the burgers were phenomenal and thus cause for such praise. I don't think it is too hard to imagine that some corners needed to be cut to maintain profit margins, while expanding the empire. What results is the exercise in mediocrity that is Five Guys burgers. Will I go back... sure, when I want a change from McD's.

Five Guys for 5 bucks. Good deal if you're in the market for guys and/or burgers. My friend and I went here the other day, finally succumbing to the pressures of our work friends. My only other experience has been the soggy fries my friends had left over at work. The paper bag was nearly clear from the grease, so I knew it had to be good. I got the regular burger (2 patties) and my friend got the small one (because she's a girl). The woman who took our order saw our bewildered looks when we walked in and showed us how to order. Very nice. They have some cool toppings like A-1. They also have some peanuts you can munch on while waiting to gorge yourself. The fries are fantastic and have that old-school just-chopped feel to it. As for the looks of the place, it's not too pretty. Lots of white with splashes of red all over with seemingly no standard typeface to their marketing. Yes, I am being a pretentious graphic design geek, but nuts to it, it looks weird. Anyway, service was quick, burger was good (not as greasy as the myths go), and the prices were pretty good. $11 for 2 burgers and fries. Also, they have Mr. Pibb, which is like Suburban crack.

My favorite fast food burger place. I had the little cheeseburger with lettuce, pickles , ketchup, mayo, raw onions, and tomatoes. Superb. Really. My tummy is growling for one right now. This location was much spacier than others I've been to. Yum.

I don't know what it is about these burgers, but they are DAMN good. I've had take-out a time or two (delish) but tonight was our first experience dining in so I got to eat the food without the wait. The fries were definitely better fresh (with just a bit of crisp) but the burger was still just as tasty. They did screw up a tad and give me mustard instead of ketchup, but it didn't ruin it for me at all since my other five toppings were correct! The only reason they don't get five stars is they are a bit too expensive.

    (4)
  • Jared H.

It's quite expensive considering it's not a full service restaurant, but the food is very good. Burgers come regular size (two patties, a bit over half a pound I believe) and small (one patty, a bit over a quarter pound). Fries come in regular or large - basically they fill a cup with fries, but then also throw an extra handful into your bag. Everything is very greasy, but the burgers are much better than the other fast food chains. The Cajun fries are very good as well (and they really are just fried potatoes, nothing funky going on here). The regular fries are good, but not great (just potatoes, not much flavor). A "regular" (double) burger with bacon and cheese is around $7. Fries are just under $3 and a regular soft drink is $2. Overall, that makes for a $12 meal which is about twice what you'd spend at another fast food location, but the food is considerably better. If you prefer food quality over dining experience (you have to wait at the counter for your food and then take it to a table) then the prices are reasonable, but you should know what to expect as prices are more in line with a casual dining restaurant chain than a fast food chain. Peanuts are free, and delicious. If you have a peanut allergy, I'd highly recommend going elsewhere as they are everywhere.

"Meh, I've experienced better." The quote for a two star review is right on. It's by no means a bad burger, but it's so far from noteworthy that it just doesn't warrant much in the way of remarks. I ordered a standard cheeseburger with pretty standard toppings, because I wanted to compare and contrast your average burger. I spent time trying to figure out how it was better than Checkers' Big Buford, because I was getting that kind of vibe, but truthfully in the end the only advantage I could come up with, was that it was bigger. The fries were absolutely nothing to speak of either - dry and mostly flavorless. As far as notes per this location, the pop machine either ran out of syrup or got adjusted while I was there also, so when I got a refill to go, all I got was carbonated water and just a little coloring. Pretty gross. There was also this teenaged worker there, who just couldn't seem to keep out of the way or underfoot. It's almost like he was TRYING to get in people's way. Hopefully he learns a little situational awareness someday. And, it's loud. Really, really loud. The place was a former vitamin store, and so it's all tile and concrete walls and ceilings, and the loud radio really echoes throughout. It's difficult to hear the people you came in with. Anyway, like I said, it's not BAD food. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but I wouldn't fight anyone if they wanted to go either. It's as the star review says: I've had better.

Without a doubt one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! We ended up here after a last-minute shopping trip to find an Easter dress for my daughter. My wife and I had cheeseburgers that were very generously topped "All the way" (everything but the Kitchen Sink) while our daughter tends to have much simpler taste had a naked double. It's not very often that the three of us can dine out for about $20 including drinks and fries without someone being disappointed. This is now one of our favorite places and will be sure to be spreading the word!

I just went to Five guys with my 6 year old.............and hands down.........the worst burger and fries I've ever had. My son even agreed. I think that Mc Donalds and B.K are better as far as chains go. The only reason I gave 1 star is because the peanuts were good and I liked that they had malt vinegar for the fries. The burger was thin, dry, over cooked and tasteless, the fries greasy, over cooked and again tasteless. I can't believe people eat there. I even had a friend tell me that it was great. Well, it wasn't cheap and I will stick to Red Coat, The Emory or Miller's if I want a burger, they're only a few dollars more.

A grilled burger, plenty of (free) toppings (including A1!) for under $4? I'm in. Granted, I have the palette of a seven year old (well done with an uncomfortable amount of ketchup, please), but I was one happy customer when I took on Five Guys. The burger is simple, in between big ol' grilled and chewy buns, the fixins fresh-I recommend the sweet pickles and tomato. The dining area is kind of odd: one big ol' room with tables and plenty of children abound, so I opted to eat back at home where I could enjoy a beer with my burger, just as God intended. I don't eat fast food much, but I can confidently say Five Guys is a very noticeable step up from McDonalds/Burger King, especially for what you pay. The gal who helped us was smiley and eager to assist; she even asked if it was our first time there, and explained how things work. She suggested the fries which were generously proportioned (plenty to share between me and my mate), which I can recommend now, too. We quickly received our food, and when we got home, our orders were followed to a T and the burgers were fresh and not mushed like traditional drippy fast food meals end up looking. Some of these reviews are pretty harsh; maybe my chum and I lucked out as we went during a slower part of a slower day and FGBF were able to take their time. But, regardless, go to Five Guys, enjoy a fine burger, then tell your friends you had five guys during break and enjoy the pervy giggles/eye rolls that follow.

I found it funny that a Rush song was playing over their sound system and the guy flipping the burgers looked a bit like Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist for the Canadian trio. I'm curious. As the son of immigrant parents, maybe this is something I would never have known, but why are so many burger places and/or their logos done in a motif including red and white. What's with the checkerboard pattern? The red and white tile on the walls of this Five Guys reminded me of the Purina logo. A pet food company's logo is probably not the best association for a customer's mind to draw in a burger place. My trip to this Five Guys location marks the first time that I've ever actually been in a Five Guys. I thought my experience might be different if I ate the food at the source. Hence, I'm writing a new review. I've had their burgers brought in to me at work. I usually got the buns pretty soggy by the time they got to me. Five Guys has this weird practice of wrapping their food in foil. I'm not sure that's the best way to bag a burger. If you like a steamed bun a la the bun of a slider, well, I suppose that's fine. Personally, I'm not a fan of a soggy burger bun. This time I got a bacon cheesedog and a cheeseburger. The hot dog bun was soggy thanks to the foil-wrapping issue. The burger managed to escape that fate. Still, the burger was fine. It wasn't earth-shatteringly good. I could go through a litany of things that I find wrong with that burger, though. I think I'm going to click the "unlike" button on the customizable burger idea. I used to like the idea, but it leads to a randomness in the application of toppings that just doesn't serve to balance a burger's taste. The biggest taste I had in this burger was the lettuce and tomato. Perhaps it was my fault for only getting a single patty. The customizable burger has such problems inherent in their concept. I am now of the belief that it's a bad idea. There is a reason that fast food-icon burgers are successful even though they're not customizable. Those icons were carefully constructed, I imagine. Anyway, the dog, well, it had bacon on it. So, since bacon makes everything better, I liked it in spite of the soggy bun, which, is a bit off-putting.

I went to the Five Guys in Oak Park. I was not happy after all the hype. This Five Guys is basically the same. I was waiting for things to calm down a bit and then FINALLY while my wife and I were shopping at Target in the same parking lot, I felt it was time to go give it a try. Same experience. The burgers are well done and basically Wendy's. I had a Bacon Burger. I meant to order a bacon cheeseburger but screwed up. I ordered pickles, onions, lettuce, ketchup and mustard with tomato. They put close to six pickles on. The lettuce was crisp big iceberg. Two tomatoes and the other ingredients overwhelmed the the two patties. WHICH WERE dry and over cooked. I finally took the condiments off just to taste the burgers. Bad. Not grey matter McDonalds bad, just over cooked non-seasoned beef. Another bad experience at what is supposed to be a national chain of great reviews. Besides the peanuts and the coke products (thank the gods) the burger was bad and dry. My wifes cheese on her burger was cold and not melted. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. My kids even thought the fries were too greasy. I took them home as a gift for them and after a few they discarded them. i cannot believe that anyone who is in this area would eat this and call it good when RedCoat is just down the street. Even for the $16 bucks we paid for the two burger, one frie and two drinks.

This place is like a second home to us. Whenever we have no idea what to have for dinner or are too lazy to cook, this Five Guys is where we go. The service is always fantastic. The food always good. Of course the place is not perfect. There have been a few inconsistencies, like the soggy fries we got one time, or the missing mushrooms I asked for on my burger. But over all this place is quite consistent with their service and food. The food is good - the burger is a burger, not the best, the hot dogs are amazing as kosher hot dogs typically are, and the fries are the real show stealer. How can you beat fresh fries, rather than frozen processed potato product. The whole shebang is a great throwback to the 50s, right down to the color scheme and pattern, where after a long day of whatever you go in for a quick burger, delicious fries, a cold Coke, and probably a smoke though that don't fly anymore. It's all about comfort and good times with friends.

Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.

Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.

McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States.
