    Caution - if it's summertime and you like red wine beware. They store their red wine in the outside bar with no temperature control. So if it's 85 degrees outside that's the temperature your red wine will be served at. I mentioned this to the staff and they didn't seem to care.

    How can a place more than a 6 hour drive from home be on my favorites list? Moreso, it becoming my Birthday Place To Be? Well, Boone's North Country Grill & Pub is and did. They have a great menu of steak and seafood, don't get me wrong. But I was led here to enjoy Prime Rib. Enjoy is the perfect word. The ambiance is north woods cabin and it IS that. The servers are just wonderful, friendly, ready to help and very knowledgeable of their menu and restaurant. I went simple -- 16oz of med rare Prime Rib. I opted for rice and went with the salad with their new white vinegar honey dressing. Salad? Outstanding, the dressing, tangy sweet. Crisp, cold and the croutons are so good you wish they offered a "Crouton Salad". The meal, when delivered is -- well 16ozs.... One Lb looks a lot bigger than you think. Perfectly done (I have had both rare and medium rare here and believe me they know the difference). Tender, juicy and complimented by a very good horse-radish sauce on the side. I order the rice because I scoop it into the platter with the beef to soak up the juices.... Oh yeah. Had to pass on dessert but I bet they are good too..... A great place - If you are in the Traverse Bay area, take the 20 min ride to Sutton's Bay and feed your inner carnivore.

    This evening was one of the few times we have been disappointed with a restaurant with great Yelp reviews. Prime rib that you can cut with a fork? I don't think so, my wife had the prime rib and it was tough enough cutting it with a knife. Her lobster. tail was good. I ordered the filet medium rare and it was very dry. Maybe it was a bad night on the kitchen.

    My wife and I stopped for dinner here while we were staying at Black Star Farms. The reviews were very promising. They have some nice outdoor seating so we decided to eat outside because the weather was really nice. My wife had the prime rib which she said was excellent. I am sure it was since she wolfed it down. I had the burger and fries which were both excellent. The service was great and if we are back in the area we will definitely come back.

    This is a neighborhood joint at its finest. Consistent and solid choice. Very consistent. The prime rib is the thing to order here. If you are there in the summer, the patio is a nice option to eat al fresco.

    Food not worthy of 4 1/2 star rating. Potato was not hot and "loaded" meant a slice of cheese and some crumbled up microwave bacon. Fish was good though.

    Fabulous place in Suttons Bay. We rented bikes in TC and rode them 19 miles into this town coming across this place on accident. Grilled cheese sandwich was to die for....hummus even better. Veggie sandwich was good though I'm stuck on the grilled cheese. Prices good bartenders are great!

    I loved the atmosphere here, warm and inviting, which I needed on a cold and rainy night. We walked right in and didn't need to wait, even with the place being pretty full. Our waitress was prompt and charming, and offered a great opinion when my date and I had questions. We ordered the king crab and lobster cake and lobster chowder to start. Both in my opinion were perfect. The chowder has big chunks of lobster and I didn't even find a need for crackers. Next we both had salads with the house dressing that I wish I could get the recipe for. Main course involved tiger shrimp for him while I ordered the prime rib and lobster. The prime rib was cooked just as I asked and was delish even without horseradish sauce. As a previous reviewer stated the portions are large enough for the hungriest patron and the prices are completely reasonable. All in all I really enjoyed the simplicity and will visit again when I'm back in the summer months.

    My Fiance and I were staying in Sutton's Bay over Easter and decide to try North Country from the reviews. We were not disappointed. The smell of the wood burning fireplace greets you at the door and invites you in. We found the waitstaff to be personable and accommodating. After a full day of hiking around Lake Michigan we were famished and ordered a ton of food. With no regrets it was all delicious!!! I started with the lobster chowder and he had the Oysters. Both were top quality, the chowder had large chunks of lobster. Next, the dinner salad with their yummy homemade White Balsamic Vinaigrette. The greens and veggies were very fresh and crisp, topped with scrumptious croutons. We both ordered North Country's specialty, the Prime Rib and Lobster. All I can say is WOW!!!! The Prime rib will not disappoint. It was a perfectly prepared, thick cut of tender Prime Rib. Not to mention it was very flavorful. The sweet lobster was serviced with drawn butter, absolutely divine. The next day we enjoyed our leftovers for lunch. Even after that we looked forward to having our last dinner in Suttons Bay there that night. Yup, we ate there two nights in a row!! If you're in the area do yourself a favor and enjoy an evening at the North Country Grill.

    We will always eat here time and again. The food and selection is awesome. The service has always been prompt and friendly. The little outdoor eating area makes me feel like I'm somewhere in Europe instead of my own town. One night we went and there were no tables available, just seats at the outdoor bar. We had our then 9 month old son and his counter attachable high chair. The staff happily settled us and him at the bar and were very friendly to us and our little guy. Prices are fair, especially for what you get. Nice ambiance if you eat inside too. So glad to have this restaurant in our neighborhood!

    This place will surely "put some meat on your bones." And, in your pockets, shoes and...pretty much anywhere else you might need it, or will be able to carry it. Read: LARGE portions. Between the lines: Surprisingly affordable. My friend and I SPLIT the London Broil...(around $18) and easily each had enough not only to STUFF ourselves, but to take home leftovers. ONE PERSON was supposed to order/eat that whole thing!? Really? Insanity. But hey, great value...and if you are hungry...saddle up and dig in, folks. All around the consensus was: WOW, this is a lot of food. Well cooked, not terribly inventive or exciting (but its not supposed to be). Mine was a little tough, but certainly passable. The side of potatoes and thick started salad with full-fat dressing? Well, ok then...we're in Northern Michigan. Server was equal parts sass and class, and down home country. I liked her. Efficient and happy. Perfect. Charmingly rustic and fantastically fitting...a nice respite in a sea of semi-yuppie establishments peppering downtown Suttons Bay. A sure pleaser for the family...most definitely. Total check for 6 stuffed girls? Around $70 + tip. Rolled all the way home, meat coma ensued....

    My wife and I choose to head north for a vacation - so Northport, MI is where we ended up. We looked for places all over to eat and driving through Suttons Bay was a cool little town. This place had good reviews and the prime rib was talked about specifically. My wife ended up getting the crab/lobster cake which was huge, and very tasty! I got the 10 oz. prime rib (which looked more like 16 oz.) and I honestly have to say it was the best prime rib I've ever had! The restaurant itself is pleasant with a fire place and "lodgy" feeling. If you're in the Traverse City/Leelanau area, definitely stop by Noth Country!

    Worth the short drive up from Traverse City, this local gem is located in a pretty resort town with a strip of shops and the like. There are local fish selections on the menu and if you go, you have to get an order of fried pickles for an appetizer. One order of these mammoth tasty spears is enough for 4 to share. The outdoor bar with affiliated seating area creates a nice summer atmosphere.

    Great find. A small venue which does not take reservations but the food was outstanding. By the time we arrived, whitefish, oysters and cod were out. Did not matter, the perch was outstanding. Prices were reasonable - would return in a minute

    Great food. Great service. Escargot was awesome. Lobster bisque was also awesome. Service was great. Really enjoyable evening after a day of sailing. Highly recommended.

    Came in for lunch while on vacation. It was early in the season, so we had no wait. The service was somewhat slow (they seemed understaffed) and when the waitress asked if we wanted one check or separate (for our group of seven) we said separate. She looked at us like we were crazy, and hesitated like we would change our minds. If you don't want to do separate checks, don't offer! :) Otherwise, the food was excellent. I had the lobster chowder (no corn and healthy lobster servings), and the three cheese grilled cheese. I am not a huge swiss fan, but the dill harvati made the sandwich yummy. The chips and pickles on the side were a nice touch. A few people at the table got the chicken cherry salad--which also looked very good-- but the salad portions were huge, and some went to waste. They should consider 1/2 salads in the future to widen the options.

    We were staying at Fountain Pointe and was recommended to go here for dinner. What a great recommendation. Food was great, atmosphere was perfect, and all staff were very accommodating. Will go again next time I'm in the area...for sure!

    Excellent prime rib and lobster tail complimented by the best lobster chowder ever created makes our stop at the North Country Grill & Pub our favorite stop on our way up North! Our visit there this past weekend was every bit as good as the last visit. And, service is always terrific. Yes, it's that good.

    We drove up to Leelanau to take in the fall colors, and the first night we were there, we stopped in for dinner. We were so glad we did! I decided to live a little and ordered the prime rib and lobster tail. The prime rib was insanely tender - so tender, I probably didn't need my knife. The lobster tail was a generous size, so sweet and so succulent. I was so into my food, I don't remember what my husband had. All I know is he thoroughly enjoyed his meal as well. They had a decent beer selection, and they didn't rush us out when we decided to each order another drink and linger after our meal. If we ever wander up to Suttons Bay again, we are definitely stopping in at North Country again.

    My wife and I have been here many times, most recently two nights ago around 6:15, after the movie. This has become quite a popular place even in the off-season. We waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. This is the best of the restaurants in Suttons Bay that we frequent. The food is tasty and the service is good. Burgers are delicious. Try the London broil - my favorite. My wife and sister-in-law love the roast beef. I usually select the rice/risotto as one side along with the house salad. For me, the rice generally needs more seasoning; the salad was good save for the balsamic dressing, which I thought was too heavy and too sweet. We had a bottle of Tin Roof merlot; it was good and was a pretty good value, we thought. Portions for their early-bird specials are on the small side ... Prices at that time reflect that. If you like to eat just a moderate amount and can order by 5:30, it's a good deal. Karen and her staff know their stuff and do a great job.

    While in Traverse City, we went out to dinner with some family that live in the area. North Country came highly recommended. I had the filet and a glass of malbec. It came out perfectly medium and it was so delicious. Among other items that were ordered, their fish looked really good (but I didn't try it) and their prime rib looked absolutely sinful! It gets a bit crowded around dinner time and they don't take reservations, so get there early for dinner or be prepared for a wait. However, it is worth the wait so go to the bar and get a glass of wine or a beer if the wait is long. Plus, the service was excellent. We also had dessert ... I can't really remember what I had except that it was rich, chocolate and delicious ... must have been the malbec that made me forget. :)

    We've had a couple of good, if not particularly fancy, meals here -- basic steak and fish -- and a couple of the local beers. It's a typical "up north" tavern with lots of wood and fieldstone; there are two stories, and it's kind of neat to sit downstairs; a bit more of an intimate atmosphere. It does get crazy busy on certain evenings, which is probably why we haven't eaten there as much as we might have when we travel in the area.

    Loved our experience! The patio was beautiful, food was delicious and our service was great (thanks Kelly!) Only thing... We were the odd people out. As vacationers in our 30's we seemed to be the youngest guests by 20 years.

    People must not not know what good food is! This place is just awful. I posted a picture of my reciept. Overpriced, unedidible. Go across the street and eat at Martha's. Martha's is amazing!

    Solid staff, solid menu and solid draft beer options. The Philly Steak Sandwich (with their amazing prime rib) was outstanding. Highly recommend.

    Pretty average place. Nothing out of the ordinary here. I had the vegetable gyro, which was a little overpriced but other than that very tasty. The rest of my family seemed very content with their fish and sandwiches. I think the appetizers are kinda expensive, at $8 for fried pickles and $14 for shrimp. Other than that, a decent place. Service was great. Come here if you feel like some normal American food.

    Stopped for dinner after reading some of the reviews. It is a cute little bar. We both had the perch, as we were told whitefish is out of season. The salad was a standard salad, but the croutons were homemade and delicious, a nice soft crunch on the outside and perfect on the inside. I had a cup of tomato basil soup and it was very good, would have loved some of those croutons topping the soup. The perch was very good as well.

    The food is very good but the fruit flies will drive you crazy. Had the keep my wine covered to keep them out. Should have been 41/2 stars if not for the flies!! Eat well and live well and please no chains!

    Would have given North Country Grill 5 stars until we got the bill. 5 stars for the food, however, $16.75 for a margarita with Patron Silver, on the rocks. Seriously! $7 for a margarita, $7.75 for Patron, and wait for it ... $2 for 'rocks'. Had I been told how much when I ordered the drink, that would have been my choice. I was not. I was asked what type of tequila?, with salt?, and on the rocks?. This is how I've ordered for my margaritas for years and I've never paid more than $12. Even in Alaska where everything is 15 to 20% more! When I questioned my waitress, she said, "I don't know, I just push the buttons, I'll ask my manager". She then when to the bartender and they had a lengthy discussion and finally came back to the table and said, "if you give me you card, we will take off the charge for the rocks". ($2.00!). Don't bother. We won't be back. If you go, make sure you know the charges before you order a drink!

    Super tender prime rib and great patio! We dined here on a perfect June evening, just the right weather to sit outside. Husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the seared white fish. His dish was the winner. My fish was... meh! Bland, dry. My daughter's chicken tenders were too crunchy. Good fries and beer. Will be back for some steak and try the oysters next time.

    More of a restaurant than a pub, at least in the summer. They have two, inside and out, long bar table areas, and the outside area was crowd, but most people were drinking and eating. Smallish menu, but that's not a detraction. They do a couple of things well, prime rib and seafood, with a couple of pub sandwiches on the back. There was a couple of drink specials, but they focus more on the wine and the seasonal beers. Smallish place, if not for the outdoor seating, more than doubles the restaurant seating capacity. Smallish road signage, we actually parked almost in front of it, without realizing we had found it - but to be fair, signage in Sutton's Bay is limited. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, they knew what they were doing, very accompidating and professional. It is a good crew. The food was good, but not outstanding. The prime rib was good and flavorful, a little over done for medium, but that didn't shot me. They have horseradish in two forms, minced and in a sauce. The baked potato was fine. The wife had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich with kettle chips, which she enjoyed.

    Our server ,Timothy was the best part of dinner. Tall chairs are difficult to move closer to table. My meal: prime rib was lukewarm at best and it was served while I had been fighting an army of giant croutons in the salad. Homemade ranch was sorta better than bottled. Pushed aside salad. Cut huge piece of fat off rib--1/4 of the whole piece. Who can screw up a baked potato? This place can. American cheese slice in the groove--barely melted. Who serves American cheese? No way to access flesh. 1 pat of butter. Apparently they don't butter the potato prior to serving. HUH? Baked ok, maybe more time would have helped--like when the prime rib should have arrived. Kitchen/waiter errors. Didn't want to antagonize my guests so I said nothing, even though I tried to catch Timothy's eye. I think he came back to table way past the point where I could have complained. Totally disappointing in all aspects. Then I got the check and there was an UPCHARGE for the cheese (maybe bacon, too????) Surprise. Overpriced and inadequate for $35. SAD

    Food is fine, but not worthy of a four star rating. Our server was very nice, but seemed really overwhelmed for some reason. We ordered three mac n' cheese plates for the kids, and he came out with 3 grilled cheese sandwiches. The Lobster pasta dish was a bit strange tasting--there was something sweet in there. My salmon entree arrived cooked medium well, despite my having ordered it rare. All of that being said, I will say that this is likely an above average restaurant for the area.

    We started the evening across the street at Martha's but walked out (waited 30 minutes for our server who never did show up) and so happy it worked out the way it did! North Country is the better choice. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Service was great and the food excellent. We started with the lobster crab artichoke dip that came with homemade bagel chips, really good. We split the prime rib which they are known for and lobster tail. Both were great and plenty of food to share. Highly recommended!

I got the 10 oz. prime rib (which looked more like 16 oz.) and I honestly have to say it was the best prime rib I've ever had! The restaurant itself is pleasant with a fire place and "lodgy" feeling. If you're in the Traverse City/Leelanau area, definitely stop by Noth Country!

    Worth the short drive up from Traverse City, this local gem is located in a pretty resort town with a strip of shops and the like. There are local fish selections on the menu and if you go, you have to get an order of fried pickles for an appetizer. One order of these mammoth tasty spears is enough for 4 to share. The outdoor bar with affiliated seating area creates a nice summer atmosphere.

    Great find. A small venue which does not take reservations but the food was outstanding. By the time we arrived, whitefish, oysters and cod were out. Did not matter, the perch was outstanding. Prices were reasonable - would return in a minute

    Came in for lunch while on vacation. It was early in the season, so we had no wait. The service was somewhat slow (they seemed understaffed) and when the waitress asked if we wanted one check or separate (for our group of seven) we said separate. She looked at us like we were crazy, and hesitated like we would change our minds. If you don't want to do separate checks, don't offer! :) Otherwise, the food was excellent. I had the lobster chowder (no corn and healthy lobster servings), and the three cheese grilled cheese. I am not a huge swiss fan, but the dill harvati made the sandwich yummy. The chips and pickles on the side were a nice touch. A few people at the table got the chicken cherry salad--which also looked very good-- but the salad portions were huge, and some went to waste. They should consider 1/2 salads in the future to widen the options.

    We were staying at Fountain Pointe and was recommended to go here for dinner. What a great recommendation. Food was great, atmosphere was perfect, and all staff were very accommodating. Will go again next time I'm in the area...for sure!

    Excellent prime rib and lobster tail complimented by the best lobster chowder ever created makes our stop at the North Country Grill & Pub our favorite stop on our way up North! Our visit there this past weekend was every bit as good as the last visit. And, service is always terrific. Yes, it's that good.

    We drove up to Leelanau to take in the fall colors, and the first night we were there, we stopped in for dinner. We were so glad we did! I decided to live a little and ordered the prime rib and lobster tail. The prime rib was insanely tender - so tender, I probably didn't need my knife. The lobster tail was a generous size, so sweet and so succulent. I was so into my food, I don't remember what my husband had. All I know is he thoroughly enjoyed his meal as well. They had a decent beer selection, and they didn't rush us out when we decided to each order another drink and linger after our meal. If we ever wander up to Suttons Bay again, we are definitely stopping in at North Country again.

    My wife and I have been here many times, most recently two nights ago around 6:15, after the movie. This has become quite a popular place even in the off-season. We waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. This is the best of the restaurants in Suttons Bay that we frequent. The food is tasty and the service is good. Burgers are delicious. Try the London broil - my favorite. My wife and sister-in-law love the roast beef. I usually select the rice/risotto as one side along with the house salad. For me, the rice generally needs more seasoning; the salad was good save for the balsamic dressing, which I thought was too heavy and too sweet. We had a bottle of Tin Roof merlot; it was good and was a pretty good value, we thought. Portions for their early-bird specials are on the small side ... Prices at that time reflect that. If you like to eat just a moderate amount and can order by 5:30, it's a good deal. Karen and her staff know their stuff and do a great job.

    While in Traverse City, we went out to dinner with some family that live in the area. North Country came highly recommended. I had the filet and a glass of malbec. It came out perfectly medium and it was so delicious. Among other items that were ordered, their fish looked really good (but I didn't try it) and their prime rib looked absolutely sinful! It gets a bit crowded around dinner time and they don't take reservations, so get there early for dinner or be prepared for a wait. However, it is worth the wait so go to the bar and get a glass of wine or a beer if the wait is long. Plus, the service was excellent. We also had dessert ... I can't really remember what I had except that it was rich, chocolate and delicious ... must have been the malbec that made me forget. :)

    We've had a couple of good, if not particularly fancy, meals here -- basic steak and fish -- and a couple of the local beers. It's a typical "up north" tavern with lots of wood and fieldstone; there are two stories, and it's kind of neat to sit downstairs; a bit more of an intimate atmosphere. It does get crazy busy on certain evenings, which is probably why we haven't eaten there as much as we might have when we travel in the area.

    Loved our experience! The patio was beautiful, food was delicious and our service was great (thanks Kelly!) Only thing... We were the odd people out. As vacationers in our 30's we seemed to be the youngest guests by 20 years.

    Pretty average place. Nothing out of the ordinary here. I had the vegetable gyro, which was a little overpriced but other than that very tasty. The rest of my family seemed very content with their fish and sandwiches. I think the appetizers are kinda expensive, at $8 for fried pickles and $14 for shrimp. Other than that, a decent place. Service was great. Come here if you feel like some normal American food.

    Stopped for dinner after reading some of the reviews. It is a cute little bar. We both had the perch, as we were told whitefish is out of season. The salad was a standard salad, but the croutons were homemade and delicious, a nice soft crunch on the outside and perfect on the inside. I had a cup of tomato basil soup and it was very good, would have loved some of those croutons topping the soup. The perch was very good as well.

    The food is very good but the fruit flies will drive you crazy. Had the keep my wine covered to keep them out. Should have been 41/2 stars if not for the flies!! Eat well and live well and please no chains!

    We started the evening across the street at Martha's but walked out (waited 30 minutes for our server who never did show up) and so happy it worked out the way it did! North Country is the better choice. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Service was great and the food excellent. We started with the lobster crab artichoke dip that came with homemade bagel chips, really good. We split the prime rib which they are known for and lobster tail. Both were great and plenty of food to share. Highly recommended!

    Would have given North Country Grill 5 stars until we got the bill. 5 stars for the food, however, $16.75 for a margarita with Patron Silver, on the rocks. Seriously! $7 for a margarita, $7.75 for Patron, and wait for it ... $2 for 'rocks'. Had I been told how much when I ordered the drink, that would have been my choice. I was not. I was asked what type of tequila?, with salt?, and on the rocks?. This is how I've ordered for my margaritas for years and I've never paid more than $12. Even in Alaska where everything is 15 to 20% more! When I questioned my waitress, she said, "I don't know, I just push the buttons, I'll ask my manager". She then when to the bartender and they had a lengthy discussion and finally came back to the table and said, "if you give me you card, we will take off the charge for the rocks". ($2.00!). Don't bother. We won't be back. If you go, make sure you know the charges before you order a drink!

    Super tender prime rib and great patio! We dined here on a perfect June evening, just the right weather to sit outside. Husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the seared white fish. His dish was the winner. My fish was... meh! Bland, dry. My daughter's chicken tenders were too crunchy. Good fries and beer. Will be back for some steak and try the oysters next time.

    Food is fine, but not worthy of a four star rating. Our server was very nice, but seemed really overwhelmed for some reason. We ordered three mac n' cheese plates for the kids, and he came out with 3 grilled cheese sandwiches. The Lobster pasta dish was a bit strange tasting--there was something sweet in there. My salmon entree arrived cooked medium well, despite my having ordered it rare. All of that being said, I will say that this is likely an above average restaurant for the area.

    More of a restaurant than a pub, at least in the summer. They have two, inside and out, long bar table areas, and the outside area was crowd, but most people were drinking and eating. Smallish menu, but that's not a detraction. They do a couple of things well, prime rib and seafood, with a couple of pub sandwiches on the back. There was a couple of drink specials, but they focus more on the wine and the seasonal beers. Smallish place, if not for the outdoor seating, more than doubles the restaurant seating capacity. Smallish road signage, we actually parked almost in front of it, without realizing we had found it - but to be fair, signage in Sutton's Bay is limited. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, they knew what they were doing, very accompidating and professional. It is a good crew. The food was good, but not outstanding. The prime rib was good and flavorful, a little over done for medium, but that didn't shot me. They have horseradish in two forms, minced and in a sauce. The baked potato was fine. The wife had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich with kettle chips, which she enjoyed.

    Our server ,Timothy was the best part of dinner. Tall chairs are difficult to move closer to table. My meal: prime rib was lukewarm at best and it was served while I had been fighting an army of giant croutons in the salad. Homemade ranch was sorta better than bottled. Pushed aside salad. Cut huge piece of fat off rib--1/4 of the whole piece. Who can screw up a baked potato? This place can. American cheese slice in the groove--barely melted. Who serves American cheese? No way to access flesh. 1 pat of butter. Apparently they don't butter the potato prior to serving. HUH? Baked ok, maybe more time would have helped--like when the prime rib should have arrived. Kitchen/waiter errors. Didn't want to antagonize my guests so I said nothing, even though I tried to catch Timothy's eye. I think he came back to table way past the point where I could have complained. Totally disappointing in all aspects. Then I got the check and there was an UPCHARGE for the cheese (maybe bacon, too????) Surprise. Overpriced and inadequate for $35. SAD
