I am glad this was on business account, i don't know if i would have liked to pay for this. I have been here a few times. Somehow each time something was a little off : sea bass overcooked once, this time, the crab legs were too cooked too (don't know if it's a theme). The sides were ok / bof : steamed veggie, not much flavor and rice (which for some odd reasons reminded me of the rice i used to have in the cafeteria in school, not sure if this is bad news for this restaurant, or good news for my school cafeteria...). I also had the mussels as an appetizer. I thought there were not that many of them and 2 had there shell broken, and 4 were not open at all. The broth was very watery. Finally the bread in the little ramekin, cute, but why is it freaking so sweet ?? I had the chocolate truffle lava cake. The cake was warm on one side and cold on the other. As it was huge, that was good and saved me from a fair amount of calories. So all and all, i was super happy because i love seafood and this was free. If i had to pay, yeah maybe not so much. Wine : one bottle we asked from the menu, they did not have, and another one we got a bottle, when we asked for another one, they did not have it anymore. How is that inventory maintained ?

I was very disappointed and unimpressed by this restaurant. My extended family got together to eat here on a Saturday night, and I was surprise to see so many empty tables. But, despite the fact that most of the tables were empty, service was disappointingly stretched thin. Fault probably goes to management (who could probably reassign the totally unnecessary and silly free valet parking service to be help around the dining room), but the waitresses didn't seem very good at dealing with the problem, often appearing flustered, sweating, and unfriendly to our requests.

Had not been there in a couple of years. It is so sad to see what has happened. I don't know how they hold on. We were there on Saturday night around 7 PM. There were only a handful of tables being utilized. The service was good. The food was good, although overpriced. But one thing that has not changed is the teacup bread! YUM! It with the cinnamon butter is soooo good. We would have enjoyed seconds on that but it was not offered. I don't think the restaurant has changed much. It just seems to be a sign of the times.

this place was recommended by the hotel desk clerk. it was close to the hotel, but that's about the most positive thing we could say about it. inside and out, the place looks like a hold-out from the 70s - not a very inviting place. inside, the place was pretty empty - this was 6:30 on a tuesday, so should have been the rush. we noted most of the occupied tables, what there were of them, had one or two guys in business casual dress. we presumed, that like us, they were denizens of the local hotels - don't think there were many locals (couples, familiies, etc.) eating here. menu is mainly seafood with a smattering of steaks. chose the prime rib with crab cake. the prime rib was ordered to be medium, but came out fairly well done. it was dry and tough - not usually what one expects for prime rib. the crab cake was fair - it could have used some seasoning, any seasoning in fact. the crab meat itself didn't seem that fresh and was again pretty dry - again not a good thing. a small plop of uninspired mashed potatos - maybe some cheese mixed in rounded off the entre. my fellow traveler as it were had some sort of pan fried trout - he couldn't identify the vegatables or whatever was accompanying it (dark flat things - there wasn't much light in the place which may have been a good thing given what we were served). had a coupon from the hotel, so got a free desert - chose a piece of key lime pie which was okay, but not great (of course, ordering key lime pie in MI may be a misdemeanor in any case). service was bordering on the very slow - as there weren't many patrons, maybe wheel of fortune or something else interesting was playing on the tv in the break room. price for this feast was not to bad, had the food been more appetizing. overall, have to believe there are better choices in the area - a denny's would have actually been a step up. sorry.

sniff sniff.. What a disappointment. Birthday Lunch Time again at work (yesss...) This was the birthday girl's choice...so I partake.. I was so close to skipping this luncheon to get a nice chicken salad from Pita Cafe...damn! ~SWC~ (Shoulda Woulda Coulda) This is a Muer restauarant...which I was under the assumption is known for it's quality. I was sorely mistaken, yet again......another Muer restaurant with a less than desirable experience. #1 - Extremely slow service. Un-enthused waitress. #2 - I have posted a picture of my $12.95 salad, that was untouched (by me) at picture time. Odered the Chicken Cape Codder Salad (Mixed greens, pine nuts, red onion & crumbled blue cheese tossed with raspberry vinaigrette; topped with raspberry-glazed grilled chicken breast). The portion was rediculously small...lettuce is cheap...pile that shit on! (Just because your restaurant bears the name of a once good place to dine, does not give you the right to rape me for three slices of onion, a chicken breast, and a handful of lettuce!) The chicken tasted slightly of salmon... Hmm.. my coworker had a blackened salmon sandwhich 0_o - I also ordered the butternut squash bisque, because I've had it in the past and it was really really good...today..not so much...very bland....it didn't even have that pretty yellow color...it just kinda looked like an institutional beige.... I included a picture of another coworkers salad, she ordered the Chopped Spinach Salad with crab (With warm bacon dressing, chopped egg, bacon, radishes & mushrooms (With Jumbo Lump crab meat $15.00) - Notice how teeny tiny they chop everything up...my two year old nephew eats bigger pieces than this! Ugghhh!! Our lunch started at 12:00 - we finally were outta there by 2:00pm....finally! No more...no more Muer restaurants for me....I'm done! having trouble uploading the photos...they seem a little big...will try later.

I read the reviews on how this place is outdated & prices are too high. I agree but happy hour makes eating out much more affordable. $3.00 glasses of wine (yes, measured but full serving) and $5.00 specialty martinis (one actually has Grand Marnier in it), which is called the "metrotini". I highly recommend that. Appies are $3.00 to $6.00 during happy hour. I also would recommend a big bowl of steamed muscles also only $5.00. Try it out. What do you have to lose? But save me a barstool! Now here is the best part of my review. Are you ready? Their happy hour is Monday THROUGH Sunday. That's right; every freakin ' day even weekends. 1-2 appies & drinks and you had dinner. FYI; I have had the clam chowder and it was delicious. Lastly, the bartender is right on top of his job, his name is Mark, and he is quick to serve. Don't you just hate to wait...even for water?! Gooooo, you'll like it!

Got the prime rib and crab cake. Also got a glass of Riesling and the choc truffle cake for dessert. Everything I had was phenom. It was empty when I came Sunday night. Was surprised. My first visit. Not the last. Pretty pricy, spent more than I planned to, but everything was totally worth it. I enjoyed everything I ate. The server Amy was one of the best I've had and I eat out a lot.

I thoroghly enjoyed my time here. I wanted to come in for some time so maybe the anticipation built it up. Its a nice quiet place, no wait, not very busy. Our server was attentive, they have nice private booths. The food was good, their bread was delicious. Good food, good company and this place could be a staple. ... They have a huge menu, prices are a little steep so this may not be a weekly staple for that reason but I'd definitely return.

We were in the Detroit area for a conference and this was one of the closest places to us that served a good meal. We went in around 3pm so there were not a lot of people there. We did wait quite a while for someone to see us, but we were sat in the lounge area. The decor in this area was dark, but strangely calming. Our waitress was Kathy and she was awesome. Since I couldn't decide what I wanted (everything sounded good) she suggested the trio which just so happened to have everything I was trying to decide between. Food was amazing. If we come back to the area, this will definitely be a place we go to refuel for the day!

My husband and I went to Meriwether's for our wedding anniversary. We wanted to go someplace nice, but not "over the top," especially with price. Meriwether's delivered! The only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of 5 stars is because the music did not match the ambiance at all. The setting is classy, but it was hard to concentrate on that when I could hear pop music that sounded like I was at an Applebee's. The food was really delicious, the wine was tasty and paired well with dinner. I definitely recommend Meriwether's for a nice dinner out! We will be going back.

I came in a week ago and ordered the lemon chicken, which was no longer on the menu but they still serve it. As you have read the bread (toothless elderly favorite) and the cinnamon butter (a country crock delicacy) are great but this visit was a horrible disaster. I like asparagus and the lemon chicken comes with asparagus. I asked when ordering if the lemon chicken came with asparagus just to be sure and was informed it did and they had asparagus. Why did I ask beforehand? Because I had been denied asparagus here in the past and wanted to avert any potential disastrous lack thereof. So when the meal came and there was no asparagus I asked why and was informed it was on its way. The waitress never came back with asparagus. I asked when we received the bill what had happened to the asparagus and was informed they did not have asparagus. I felt cheated and lied to. This is a restaurant that my family has been patronizing for years. I outright refuse to attend any family meals at this restaurant based solely on this experience I had. I never considered not leaving the waitress a tip before but this instance really should have been my one time not tipping. I did however tip that night, but my tip for you is not to dine here or any of Chuck Muir's non-asparagus serving establishments. The ambiance is that of a upper echelon nursing home. There is a bar separated from the dining room. There are booths along the side of the main dining room and a raised dining floor with a turret in case your into that kind of old country buffet atmosphere. Why the two stars? I do like the bread, cinnamon butter and lemon chicken. I don't like being lied to and deceit. No Asparagus.

Tired and worst service ever. Corporate office needs to make some major changes to this restaurant. Don't waste your time.

I hate to write bad reviews but this one has to be one of my worst dining experiences in years. The waitress was uninterested and always busy somewhere else even though the restaurant was slow for dinner time. The place needs to be updated and the food was very plain. I had the Martha's Vineyard salad and steak. The steak was flavorless and warm and the salad was tossed together and very unmemorable. Not worth the effort. Very disappointed.

I don't know how this place stay manages to stay in business because it is always empty. You can always get a table here without a reservation, even on mother's day which is unheard of. It is a nice, older restaurant. The teacup bread is delicious. They have interesting cocktails. I always find something different to try. Their fresh fish is always good. The prime rib was disappointing so I will stick to seafood next time. I hope this place stay around because it's been a staple in the community for years and there are hardly any restaurants in this category close by.

Upscale Steak and Seafood restaurant (It says so on the awning), in the middle of nowhere on Telegraph, south of 696. In Yelp photos, the building looks old European-style inside and out, and in much need of updating. Perhaps it was due to Valentine's day, that the interior looked more formal. I was worried by the Yelp posted photos but pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Beautiful interior, white linens and chair covers. The hostess was very friendly, and though we were prepared to wait at the bar, being 30 minutes early for our reservation, we were seated immediately. Valet is complimentary and they are very friendly. We were seated in the 'Den' which proved to be very quiet and the awkward guy in the corner was nervously bleating like a goat. I asked the waitress if she could turn on the music in there (as it was on in the main room) It helped but not much. The two Smokin' Berry Mules helped more. A little disappointing that they didn't have the dry-ice for this drink but it was very good. The waitress was super sweet and friendly. She was attentive and had the best recommendations. It was clear she really knew the menu. I want to take a stab at her name but I could be wrong. Taneisha(?) If you take nothing else from this review, know this - ADD THE DYNAMITE TOPPING. It's not on the menu and seems to be a secret of the regulars and that only the good waitstaff will let you in on. Doesn't matter the fish, just add it. It's $7 but worth it! Asian flare - like deconstructed spicy crab rangoon on top of your fish of choice. A little spicy, great flavor, chunks of crab meat, cream cheese, sriacha and green onion! I ordered the Trio with the topper on my Salmon. It made the whole dish. Crab cakes were the second best ever. First is The Chop House in Ann Arbor. Coconut Shrimp were just perfect. My husband was happy with his butterflied filet. We were stuffed and didn't attempt dessert. The tea cup bread with cinnamon butter is no joke; super addicting. I see that the reviews here haven't been treading well lately, but perhaps they are turning things around. This was a great visit. Though they are a bit pricey - I'm happy to pay it for the quality we received.

My husband surprised me with this place as a lunch date. Charming atmosphere, service was excellent. You must ask for the tea cup bread, not just given automatically anymore. The honey butter is awesome. I recommend the clam chowder, or anything else on the menu, it all looks good.

Had a great meal. Try the crusted brie for an appetizer and the salmon was made to perfection. Ask for Skip. You will enjoy.

Came here for a work dinner with 10+ group, so I got to try a myriad of items. Appetizers: Dynamite Shrimp - heat comes from Tabasco, served over crispy hash browns. Excellent flavor Scallops - served on/in half-shell with a creamy sauce. It's rich, and tasty, but scallop is small. Calamari - served with sautéed onions I think, it's okay. Had the New England clam chowder next. It's alright. The bread they serve here is very good, so soft and moist. Excellent with the chowder. For main course, I'm already full so only had the whitefish broiled. I wanted to try a local fish, and this is suppose to come from Lake Superior. Overall, moist and cooked well but if try something else next time. That's all I had. Staff here is attentive, but since I came on weekday they seemed under staffed (slow). Overall, I had a good experience and would try again.

Old school meets tired. I remember its heyday and those days are long gone. The food was well prepared, and delicious but overpriced compared to it's sister restaurant Mitchell's. The ambiance and facilities need an uplift or perhaps a good cleaning and paint job. The service was impeccable! I want to love this place like I did back in the day but just can't. When in Southfield this is a good selection but I think you can do much better with a few minute more trip up to Birmingham or Royal Oak.

Save the money and go elsewhere. If you like seafood I would suggest bonefish grill over this place any day. My fish was tasteless, previously frozen and cost $19. Service was TERRIBLE. We were a party of 9 and there was 2 other tables seated from what I could see. It took over 15 minutes for a server to come to the table, never brought drink orders, had to ask for the bill... overall a really bad experience!

I don't disagree with a lot of the reviews here but I mean - if you are going to Meriwethers in the first place, you probably don't have too much of a hangup about how much things cost. Or it is a special occasion therefore you are prepared to spend the price tag that comes with this establishment. Or are coming on someone else's dime. Which was the the case for me. (Thank you session) So let's put aside the cost of things... which is something I rarely do for reviews. Anyhoo, it was a couple months ago so frankly I don't remember what I had but what I remember is that the service was impeccable, and our server was one of the most courteous yet entertaining server I've ever had. There were one or two times that she may have taken a little longer than I would have liked but we were sitting in the tower, which is a separate room that is not visible by the rest of the restaurant, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. One of the most delicious things however was the bread, which seems to be one of their signature items. They come in little teacup-esque with three tiny buns rising out from it. And it comes with the delicious cinnamon butter. We were billed for the wrong wine initially but fortunately we had a sharp eye on it so were able to cut that down, but overall it was a beautiful meal. And that was my experience.

We stumbled upon Meriwether's when we were house hunting in the area. We didn't end up moving there, but we both enjoy hitting up this place for dinner when we are close by. The cinnamon butter and tea-cup bread is a special treat. After eating a few times in the dining room, we discovered the bar - it is now our preferred place to eat. A couple of appetizers from the happy hour menu and a spicy cucumber martini is always guaranteed to make me a super happy girl. The service is always polite, professional and attentive. A nice place for a quiet, romantic meal. We've gone to Meriweather's when we are all dressed up for a night on the town or a late meal after a long day of construction work and always left feeling fed and satisfied. Good seafood, consistent quality, reliable service - a location to keep in mind when eating in Southfield.

Pricey restaurant with a limited lunch menu. Oh and they forgot to make my meal. No apology from anyone. I sat and watched everyone else eat while I waited and waited. Extremely slow and disorganized.

Back in the day this place was freaking tasty. It is a mere shadow of former glory now. Sad but true. My fave items here were teacup bread with cinnamon butter and chowder. Now the chowder is watery and tasteless, six bucks ala carte to boot. The rest of the food is rather dated and uninspired, far too expensive for what you get to boot. Grilled/broiled fish/seafood will always be a better option than beef/chicken etc. Be prepared that you will be the youngest by far if you are under 50. The age skew could explain the blandness. My oldster parents still eat spicy though so I think they should rethink. I'm not what one would term *young* anymore and my tastebuds were bored. My fish was fine (well except for a couple of pesky bones), the sauce was mostly butter and seriously lacking in any punch. Just meh. Service is not terribly welcoming or friendly, rather lackluster. For the prices they charge servers should at least feign some enthusiasm and try to be on the ball with refills. Honestly it felt like I was a total inconvenience. Its not like I was rude, demanding or some kind of complicated orderer, my sin was solely in showing up. Maybe I need a floral dress and a cardi to fit in? Did I look poor after I rolled my eyes at the menu prices? Were you afraid I would not tip (statistically the middle aged tip better than seniors so there!). As I play catch up on my reviews this one just kept getting put to the wayside. I was uninspired to even write it up. It's been awhile. Sigh. This place just makes me sad. All I could think of is what I could have spent that money on instead.

Went for a family event, one of those "big milestone" things and sat in the side room. Waitress handled a party of 12, including kids, parents and grandparents with ease. She knew we were there to spend the evening, so things were served at a leisurely (but not slow) pace, with plenty of time to converse, give presents, etc..., exactly what we were looking for. Orders ran the gamut from NY Strip, to chicken, to surf n turf, to duck, to salmon. Everybody was happy with their food (the boy even hijacked the portion of prime rib I was saving for leftovers), and even happier with the service.

I wanted to love this place. Made a reservation for our anniversary, upon arriving realized this was not necessary. The dining room was fairly empty- and we were sat at a center table near the entrance, not the ambiance I had in mind. When our waitress finally stopped by she was nice enough, but there was no introduction just asked for our drink order. We ordered a mussels appetizer, they were old or just bad- she took them back and let us know there wasn't any bread left because it wasn't rising- she also had the foresight to ask the chef to leave the mussels out of my husbands dish. She also said the chef doesn't eat seafood- what??!! This is a seafood restaurant, that's not a good thing. The rest of our meal was ok... But nothing special.

I took my staff their for a Christmas lunch. It was tarnished by the service. At every point, the wait was too long. Waiting to be asked for a drink, getting the appetizer, getting the food, getting the check. The worst was the waitress apparently forgetting to put in one of the orders, requiring a 15 minute wait for one of our party to get their food after everyone else had been served. Their was no apologies, but of course no one asked if the service was satisfactory.

Lovely experience for my Mom's 82nd birthday. I arrived early with my Mom, so we had appetizer and beverage: A warm brie with apple chutney and crostini, and Mom's favorite - Southern Comfort with a lemon twist! Mom received a special menu with a happy birthday wish across the top - nice touch! The food was wonderful, and everyone had a different entree they liked - from lobster, or caesar salad and snow crab, to prime rib, diver scallops, or reef and beef (like surf and turf). My niece is just 11 years old and loved the potato encrusted whitefish, eating the entire entree! The gazpacho was fresh and tasty (want their recipe). The legendary teacup bread with cinnamon butter was as memorable as ever. Although they did not serve the birthday girl a complimentary dessert like some places, they let us bring and serve our own tiramasu cake (without the cutting charge many restaurants now have now when you bring your own birthday dessert). They candled and lit the cake even though it was not their own - nice! They took special care of my Mom so that it was a great experience for her, and that was most important. If I had any suggestion, it's a small one: enable the conversation at the table to continue while serving. After orders were taken, the family conversation proceeded. The service interrupted the dialogue a few times when I felt service could have taken place silently and without interruption. All in all, a lovely experience., and we were well taken care of. Happy Birthday Mom! UPDATE for Jul 2015: Same as last year: Great food, good ambience, but, the servers need to practice serving without interrupting the table conversation.

I am also confused as to why Meriwether's does not have a better rating! This place is different and definitely has its own swagger compared to the usual restaurants I have attended. It's rustic.. and I absolutely adore the exposed wooden beams and the exterior. Service and staff has always been superb and friendly!! It may come off as deserted, but obviously, they are paying their bills because they are still operating. I like how it isn't overly crowded. It's swank and very low-key. Food has always been the best part of the experience for me!! I have not ever sent anything back, and the portions are filling! Anything from the salmon to the scallops.. are an absolute delight. I have taken my parents to this place for father's/mother's day and birthdays. I definitely recommend!! Oh.. and if Billy still works there (I haven't been to this place in like a year) then please request him!! He is attentive without being pushy, and also has the best recommendations for food and wine pairings without consulting with the sommelier (sp.)!! :)

This place is great. I have only been in Southfield about 5-6 years, but every time we go the food and service are outstanding. I ate probably the best steak I've ever had here. Had an incredible stuffed bass another time - so delicious. And I actually like that it is is fine dining but the atmosphere is not uptight or stuffy, just cozy. My husband and I celebrate our anniversary by dining here. It's pricey, but we haven't been disappointed.

I came for a drink and dinner and sat at the bar, which was a little old-fashioned, but that's okay. I went there in time for Happy Hour and enjoyed a couple of $3 cocktails. Okay, more than a couple. The bartender was attentive and prompt, which you don't always get during Happy Hour. For my dinner I chose the Ultimate Seafood Trio. Excellent choice, but skip the coconut fried shrimp. The grilled salmon is one of the best I've had anywhere, and the crab cake was full of large lumps of crab and served with a roasted red pepper sauce that was delicious. Speaking of sauces, the salmon came with a beurre blanc that was devilishly good. I may go back again for the second night in a row!

So this is an old man's place, half full of business suits. First of all the hostess had a gnarly and unfriendly expression, its the holiday season, smile. Yes they have a nice selection of fish entries, but its been the same old Menu for the past 10 years. The food is OK, but not very appealing. I had the fish sandwich, and it was uninspired, one piece of fish, and a small hot dog bun, with a slice of cheese slap onto top it. With a handful of under cook fried. Not that appealing, especially for $10.

We are having a warm and happy day, better known a Merry Weather....ok, not that funny. This is our favorite special place to go for that special evening, anniversaries and birthdays. We have been going here for about twenty five years. The food is always always fresh but because it's a Muer restaurant the fish is always a good choice. As I have mentioned before I love only one kind of fish and they make is a good as anybody. I had the Lake Perch. Outstanding. Lightly breaded and pan fried in loads of butter. The bottom is seared and just crispy enough to hold the breading and give the fish a buttery taste. My mouth is watering thinking about it again. Other meals I have had the Filet and that's always good but not on this visit. The service is always decent. We are not usually in a hurry so we can sit with a bottle of wine and just relax and enjoy the ambience. Ask for a second(or third)of the famous Teacup Bread, served with honey-cinnamon butter, is a trademark recipe from the original restaurant.

Great place for such a small burb. Crab cakes were delicious and service outstanding. Colleague left scarf and went back the next day to retrieve. Still had it and gladly returned. Don't see that much anymore.

Over priced. This place may have been good at one time, today, it's a relic. Nice 17th century decor and interior detail. Old school attentive service, average food. Known for seafood, plates are sad and uninspired. I won't be going back for 25+ a plate I can go to much better restaurants.

Very slow on a Tuesday night. Ate in the bar since I just wanted to relax, eat & read the newspaper. Bartender was very attentive, since she had very few guests. Ordered the Dynamite Mahi Mahi. It was very good. Everything (fish, rice & fresh asparagus) came out very hot. It was just the right portions, but they could have thrown a couple more spears of asparagus on the plate. A little pricey. Bill for dinner and tip was $35 and I only drank water!

We usually go to Big Fish in Dearborn when we feel like a (used to be) Muer restaurant. Now I remember why. For starters, we were at one of the darkest tables I've ever been at in a restaurant. It was almost impossible to read the menu. Romantic? Yes, I guess, but a few more lumens would have been appreciated. We skipped the appetizers this time around and went straight to the main courses. This seemed to irritate our waiter a little, as he leaned on us hard for appetizers and booze. Sorry, we weren't in the mood for either, but I guess he wanted to get the bill up. My wife ordered the prime rib special that was on the menu tonight. There were two sizes offered; she didn't specify which size she wanted and the waiter didn't ask. He brought the bigger one; I guess he wanted to get the bill up. She like it well enough, but didn't have room for dessert after. I ordered the jumbo sea scallops. They were supposed to have smoked bacon in the sauce, but I couldn't taste (or see) any. I ordered a side dish of Stilton hash browns as well. It was a good-sized serving, but I didn't taste any cheese. All in all, very disappointing. We'll make the drive to Dearborn next time.

It was OK. Good Manhattan. Martha's Vineyard Salad was way too wet. Had broiled Salmon. Very good. Good rice, shaped like a pyramid? Why? 2 good asparagus spears. 4 would have been better. If you make good vegetables and sides, make a little bit more of it and fill up the customer's plate. My plate looked naked. Especially, these days when people eat and enjoy vegetables. 2 more asparaguses wouldn't break the bank and cut your profit margin to the bone. My Crème brûlée was good, but it had thin ice on top on a shallow pond of pudding. One of the packets of sugar on the table would have made it a touch thicker. Very good service for our group of 10. Some others had a potato 'encrusted' something, but you couldn't see the 'something' because of the 'potato encrusting'. All in all, not bad for an 'old girl' of a restaurant.

Please save yourself the trouble and eat somewhere else. Quickly to summarize it all - Food was over cooked - Not fresh ingredients - Very salty just not worth it if im paying more money for finer dining, the food better be good. I felt like I shoulda ate fast food instead... honestly..

I'm SHOCKED Meriwether's doesn't have at least 4.5 stars...wow! Anywho the food is excellent I went often when I was younger and just started going back as an adult and it is still excellent. It is a slightly stuffy atmosphere, its mostly business suits so I'm assuming that's why some have offered bad reviews? There is NOTHING wrong with this hidden gem!

I'm surprised that Meriwether's doesn't have more reviews. It's been around FOREVER. As one of the many Chuck Muer restaurants, it's definitely reliable and old school. The dark wood, linens, menu and service are all of the finer dining variety. I imagine this is where the stuffy business men of the area are spending their lunch hours and dropping more money than I make in a day or more. This is the place I typically meet my Mom for lunch and we can usually get out of there for under $25 (with tip), if we split a couple of things. My absolute favorite salad of all time is their Martha's Vineyard salad. It's simply fresh leafy greens, red onion, bleu cheese and pine nuts, with a maple raspberry vinaigrette and I could easily eat it every day. All meals are served with this tea cup bread that's fresh from the oven and served with a cinnamon butter that is amazingly evil and delicious. I've also had their burger, crab cake and soups and never had anything that wasn't delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and the service top notch. Definitely a great lunch spot if you're willing to part with $10 to $15, minimum.

This is one of the lower end Muer restaurants. They have the Muer standards, like Martha's Vineyard Salad and Charlies Chowder. They also serve an interesting bread baked in a teacup. The food has been uniformly good and the service has been fine, It is not any big bargain and there is nothing particularly unique about the food or the presentation. It is a fine place, just not spectacular.

Incredibly mediocre. We started out with drinks and a cheese platter. When it finally arrived I thought it was a joke. It looked like the cheapest cheese variety available. Bread was off the shelf. Unfortunately we stayed for dinner and it was even worse. Awful service, even worse food. Over cooked and badly seasoned. Overpriced. Much better choices.

This is what I called a blind date. We looked this restaurant up in Yelp and it was near to where we were staying the night and because I so dearly love Charley's Crab in Grand Rapids (owned by the same Muer Restaurants) so we chanced it. Wish we hadn't. The food was okay, the wine list limited and the environment sorely dated and in desperate need of a jolt of "something". We were there on a Saturday night and the place was nearly deserted (always a bad sign). They offered valet parked (obviously not needed and a parking lot in horrible condition) The place outside and in looked like it had been abandoned 20 years ago. I don't mind at all paying top dollar for a meal to remember, but I paid to forget this night.

Ate here with a group of business colleagues and had a very nice time. The elegant menu was customized to our group where the heading said Joe and the Embassy Suites welcomes you to Meriwether's (which was a classy touch). We went on a Wednesday and got 50% off the bottle of wine which allowed us to expense a much better bottle. I had the shrimp which was decent, but I would probably try something else next time. I would have rated it a five, but I didn't like the presentation of the steamed vegetables as a side.
