I admittedly don't have a lot of comparisons for a bed and breakfast, but we had a great time at the Sandcastle Inn! We didn't have a lot of time to spare, as we were traveling from Chicago back to our home in Oakland County, Michigan, but South Haven was a perfect stop-over. We were in the Royal Suite - sleeping in a round turret was pretty cool. There was also a push button fireplace and a gorgeous deck that would have been much more enjoyed if it was a little warmer. After arriving around 7:30PM, we checked into our room and then headed into town for dinner. Carlene told us we could walk into town without any problems, but it was still a little chilly for me to want to brave that. We had a delicious dinner at Clementines and then headed back to our room. The bathroom required a little patience and the toilet almost constantly ran, so we shut the door in order to not hear it. Oh well. After attempting showers in the morning we decided if we ever choose to open our own B&B, the bathrooms WILL take priority. But it wasn't enough to ruin an otherwise excellent evening. And after a fabulous breakfast prepared by Carlene, we forgot all of our troubles. Unfortunately I'm not too much of a foodies, but I can say it was super-yummy! We were first offered bagels or toast, but if you're not used to eating a lot of breakfast, pass on those as the best is yet to come. There was a fabulous feta and something quiche along with lots of fresh fruit (not easy to come by in cold spring in Michigan!). If we're ever traveling sans kids on the west side of Michigan again, we'd definitely book a room at the Sandcastle Inn :)

I stayed in cottage B with a friend and had a great experience! Very spacious with 2 rooms. One queen and two twins. The place was very clean and the staff and owner were all extremely welcoming. We had a problem with the shower door and the owner came in and fixed it her self. She was really nice. There are cute picnic tables and charcoal bbqs in front of each cottage. There's also a porch of some sort in front of each one. Great place to relax. It was about a 15 min walk to downtown but the walk was nice in the summer time! There is a beach access just a block or two down the road which was nice. I would definitely come back again!
My family has come to this B&B for several years. We have rented three different cottages and stayed in the B&B a couple times. Jan, the owner, and the staff are tremendous. They are friendly and always concerned about making your experience a good one. The cottages are moderately priced and well maintained as is the B&B. The breakfasts are always delicious! You will love this place if you have small kids. They are about 2 blocks from a public beach. They have a pool, play ground, basketball court, tennis court, and bicycles to use. They have lots of movies for rainy days and are always up on the good things going on in town. They have a fire pit for evening smores or a cozy fire & wine time. Victoria is a great place for couples too. You'll love biking around town, walking on the beach, walking into town, or watching the sun set. Our family has made this place a tradition! You will love it too!
What a lovely place to stay, very quiet and well within walking distance of the main shopping district and beaches of South Haven. Not our first time in town, but the first staying here and we will definitely return. We had some friends from the Czech Republic staying with us and took them here to experience some small town, Michigan charm. They loved it! We stayed in the B cottage--two bedrooms with TVs; eat-in kitchen with all appliances; living room with TV, VCR, DVD player, and fireplace; bathroom with shower and whirlpool bath; and screened-in porch. Very comfortable and plenty of room, enough for even a longer stay of a week or more. Took advantage of the whirlpool bathtub and patio charcoal grill while we were there, and there is also a small pool, tennis court, and basketball court on the well-manicured grounds, along with bikes to take into town. The main shopping district and beaches are less than a mile away and just across the bridge. Highly recommend it!

Amazing ice cream and the portions are insanely huge. Line moves fast but it is chaos inside. As rookie it is over whelming. Enjoy the best ice cream in the state
WOW - My wife and tried Shermans this past weekend while traveling though the South Haven area. This place is located a little off the beaten path. However, it's worth while. The ice cream is not the usual you'd find. It's thick and creamy and tasty. If you're looking for some quality ice cream, this is definitely the place to go. On top of that, they have a nice assortment of flavors and types of items. I recommend giving this place a try.
Really amazing ice cream. There's nothing like it. So many great flavors, it is hard to choose just one. The birthday cake is my fave!

Stayed with Carol-Ann & Jerry third week of March and were immediately welcomed! Carol-Anne is well-versed in l'art de recevoir! I arrived with my partner for a relaxing long weekend hoping to explore South Haven and it's environs, including wineries just south in Berrien Springs and Baroda. I was concerned that we would not arrive at a proper hour: arriving after 9:00 pm, yet Carol-Ann quickly reassured me that a note would await our late arrival with instructions on how to enter, information about the property and a key placed in our room. She also prompted us explore several other suites that were available that night and weekend for an additional few dollars. I welcomed the upgrade, but in the end we declined. The room (Willow) was as I expected, well-appointed, secluded in a corner of the home on the second floor away from potential guest traffic. The bed was comfortable; fireplace was simple to work and jacuzzi provided a gentle closing to one evening. Several highlights and features perhaps not mentioned on the website: 1. This property is located within ten minutes walking to the centre of the town. 2. The Depot, a well-established wine and spirits purveyor just two blocks away offers a good selection of Michigan and local wines! 3. Bicycles may be offered during warmer months! Speak with Carol-Ann directly! 4. If you fancy a film at the cinema, ask Carol-Ann for her popcorn bucket. The deal: $5.50 is the price per ticket to a film and this includes a bucket of popcorn and a soft drink! 5. The inn provides an honour-system public fridge to house one's left-overs and such and provides a few sodas ($ 1.00). 6. Their website proclaims a gourmet breakfast and indeed it is! I couldn't believe each serving of fruit salad included fruit which was perhaps not in season, though ripe and delicious! Carol-Ann and Jerry ensured that one's coffee was always fresh and hot and provided conversation making one feel like a member of the family! Again, although we visited during the off-season in South Haven, I certainly plan to return and to stay at the Inn! While we didn't explore the multiple common areas: pub (where complimentary hors d'oeuvres are offered), salon and game-room I look forward to the next séjour! Again, I reiterate the welcoming level of service and hospitality for myself and my same-sex partner!
I love this Inn! The rooms are beautiful, very romatic! The breakfast was yummy. And the Innkeepers are so very nice and friendly - letting us know what to do around the area. I loved it so much I booked another stay in the fall.
Best ever. Immaculately clean, great amenities, engaging innkeepers who love their job.in the middle of everything. Our favorite.

Thanks for another great meal yelp! The burgers and onion rings were awesome. The chili dog was so so. You can get your beverage in a frosted mug. Very cool
This attempts the ambiance of a fifties drive up Resturant. All that is missing are the roller skates. We have been eating here at least a half dozen times a summer for well over a decade. I can't recall a bad selection. My wife's favorite is the chicken tenders basket. The onion rings give Clementines a run. The staff are generally kids and they are particularly attentive. The prices are reasonable. Sit for a spell and enjoy the ambiance and take a brief respite in the past. If you want something fast without the personal touch and character, there is a chain outlet down the street that has your food under a heat lamp.
Rolled into this spot during 4th of July weekend and it definitely looked like a spot where the locals like to come. We chose to eat outside on the picnic tables, but realized at the end of our meal that there is also an inside dining area as well. This place is a splitting image of Superdawg in Chicago (outside of the food). Most customers like to order and eat from their cars as I assume that was the cool thing to do back in the 50's. We ordered several cheeseburgers, cheese fries and hot dogs for the kids. The food was okay. I would put it a step above the local Wendy's. Overall, a unique setting with decent food.

Love this place. My husband and I were looking for place to enjoy a relaxing 2 night getaway when our friends recommended this B&B. We couldn't have been happier with our experience here. Right away we were helped to feel comfortable when Ginger (one of the owners) greeted us and gave us some info about the place. You're made to feel like your staying with old time friends. The main house is beautiful and the grounds are very well taken care of. Hammocks and chairs can be found all over the property so you can just relax and enjoy the outdoors. We stayed in the cottage house instead of the main house. Which is a great option if you want a private entrance plus as an added bonus your breakfast is delivered to your room every morning! Our room had a beautiful fireplace and great jacuzzi style tub. Everything was very clean and the staff were all so nice! The location of the B&B is nice too because you are just minutes away from downtown South Haven and Lake Michigan. This was such a nice relaxing retreat, I am definitely hoping we can make it back soon!
This was a nice place, the owners were very kind as well. This was our first B&B experience because we wanted to try it at least once, and I'd have to say that they are just not our thing. My fiancé and I just like more privacy, and more luxurious rooms. We stayed in the guest house in the Chatham Suite, it was a cute room and the whirlpool tub was nice. The TV was smaller than my computer screen.... And the breakfast food was absolutely terrible.... we only drank the orange juice :[ And again maybe I'm just being picky because bed and breakfast's aren't my thing....but I wouldn't come back.
This was our third stay here at Martha's Vineyard B&B. We were so disappointed that we will not be going back there. Every time we have stayed, we stay in one of the "cottage" rooms that are detached from the main house. The first two times the check-in went smoothly and the rooms were great. The third time we got hassled about staying out in one of the "cottage" rooms; we had reservations 4 months prior to arriving for a room out there. We were the only ones there and the innkeeper (we felt) did not want to be bothered bringing us our food out there for breakfast and for housekeeping. The rooms definitely need to be updated and maintained better. The paint was peeling in our room, the hot tub was coming apart at the walls, the bathroom was dirty and the decor just needed to be freshened up a bit. We will try out another reviewers recommendation for the Wickwood B&B in Saugatuck. It is unfortunate about our experience, because we love South Haven and the atmosphere of the town.

Breakfasts made to order. Prices are good, as is the coffee. Get there early as the place has a lot of local regulars and the best tables get picked first. Get a window seat and you can watch the town wake up. They have a daily special, but don't stop at that. Everything I have tried is good. We have been coming back for well over a decade. It is the place for breakfast when we are in town.
Best Chocolate donuts and cream filled long johns around... Friendly staff that ways has a smile and welcoming.
Stopped in around 1130 for a late breakfast. I did not have the bakery items although they looked fresh and very good. We stopped in the dining room where the kitchen is a cafeteria style line to order food and they will bring it out to you. I had a western omelet with sausage gravy. The eggs were a bit tough and the cheese was raw. It was ok but not great. Others that were with me had a few sandwiches and they enjoyed those. I would come back and try the bakery items

The coffee here was the best we could find in town. They also have donuts made fresh in the bakery every morning! The free Wi-Fi is definitely a plus. Especially since we had been tent camping at nearby Van Buren state park. The only down side is that this place is located INSIDE a grocery store... For that reason only for stars.

For fast food type restaurant this place is good. The food is good, the place and tables were clean, and the people are very nice and helpful. The sandwiches looked like they took their time to make them, like you would at home, not like the normal fast food burger joint. Their fish sandwich was really good, great taste flakey white fish and much larger in size than McDonalds filet-o-fish and it costs less. This Arby's is a nice surprise. Cheers!

Very clean inn and very friendly staff and innkeeper. Location is perfect! Just a block to the beach and a short stroll to downtown South Haven. Just across the street is a beautiful park and a small convenient store. Breakfast is wonderful, with different hot items made daily. Every day breakfast includes: bagels, toast, muffins, cereal, and fresh fruits, juices, coffee, and tea. Kudos to the chef! Inn is kept very very clean, you can tell the innkeeper works her behind off keeping it that way. Only 2 drawbacks come to mind: First, the room we stayed in desperately needs a new mattress; and the linens, although fresh and clean, need to be replaced. (Room 1) Secondly, the price is quite high.... I would think a fair price would be about $50 less per night; considering the extremely high competition in the area. Overall I was pleased, I will consider staying there again. (But will have to consider budget first; as it is not a tremendous value.)
PROS: Great location two blocks from the beach! The street is relatively quiet as well. They have snacks out in the evening (pretzels, mini sandwiches, hummus, salsa etc) and leave cookies out before the innkeepers leave for the night. Breakfast consisted of yogurt, fresh fruit, home-baked goods, and two hot casserole dishes. They have a Keurig with coffees and teas. The innkeepers were very nice. CON: The rooms are a little musty, so kept windows open (was disappointed they shut the windows when the freshened the room as we had the air set to 75* so it wouldn't turn on, yet they turned the air cooler and shut the windows--making the room musty again). It would be nice if they had please do not disturb signs as we didn't need our room made-up everyday (but I've never been one to like rooms being touched up during shorter stays).
We had a very lovely and cozy stay at a very reasonable price (our room was discounted from the regular advertised price). The location is fantastic, one block from the beach, and three blocks from downtown. The "gourmet breaskfast" includes toast, bagel, muffins, cereal, granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, tea and then 2 warm items that vary daily. The house has a great front porch with comfortable seats. I loved the bath products they used too. We stayed in the very lovely Trellis room with a king bed, fireplace, private deck, and private entrance. My only small complaint would be that it is right off the kitchen and so you obviously here them making breakfast in the morning, clanging plates etc. Not that it is overly noisy but if you are someone who wants to sleep in and sleeps light, choose a different room. We were not overly bothered by it. One other small complaint is the shower head, it needs to be cleaned so that the spray is more even. (easily fixable) I would definitely stay here again!
