This place is great! The rooms are spacious, new, and clean. The location is only minutes from St. Joseph's and many wineries. Joel and Christine are wonderful owners that tend to the guests' needs. The breakfast is healthy with foods from local areas and it's amazing! We have been there four times and will return again. We love the Vinters Retreat.
My husband and I had a lovely stay here this past summer. We stayed in the Vitner's Suite which was very luxurious. We enjoyed the air tub and everything was very clean and comfortable. My only complaint about our particular suite was that it is on the ground floor, and so the windows face the driveway and you either have to keep the blinds closed or be okay with people seeing in. If there were some sheer curtains that would let the light in and give some privacy that would help. However, that wasn't a deal breaker. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat and have already recommended it to many others. The breakfasts were phenomenal- we agreed that we couldn't have gotten any better in a restaurant. They offer lots of beverage options, and they give you several courses so you are stuffed and your taste buds are very happy. As foodies, this experience was a huge plus for us. The afternoon reception was modest in offering but a nice touch. The hosts were very kind and accomodating. The give you free run of the fridge to store leftovers from local restaurants, or to grab sodas and waters as needed. Since it was summer it was too hot to go walking on the property, but it looked beautiful. We did enjoy walking across the street to the park to watch the sunset, it was the perfect spot. If you are looking for a weekend getaway on the Michigan coast we'd highly recommend this place!
We spent a 3 day weekend at the Painted Turtle Inn in the "Moonlight Serenade" room and were very happy with the stay. This is a phenomenal new B&B and they do a great job. I'd love to stay here even without the benefits of the beauty of Lake Michigan. The room: It was big, like a large master suite. The decor was brand new, very modern, and chic. Two sitting chairs, a comfortable king size bed, flat screen, clock radio with iPod/USB connections for charging, and a sweet bathroom. The bathroom: I've never showered in one of those fancy "shower heads that rain on you" showers; it was great! Again, ultra modern, I felt like I was in a "Modern Home" type of blog or magazine. The air bath looked cool as well even though I forgot to use it. The house: The remodeled house was beautiful. Excellent eating area (with indoor plants lining the room perimeter). Accommodations: Christine was great, had excellent customer service, and was very accommodating. She hooked us up at a local restaurant with great seats and was overall a lovely host. The service staff was also incredibly friendly. Fresh coffee in the morning (starts brewing at 7:30 am), Keurig all day long, hot tea, afternoon snacks with wine, soda in the fridge all day, brownies at night. Sweet! The breakfasts were very good and came in multiple stages. Breakfast started at 9 am and we went around 9:30 am both mornings. The tables in the eating area are separated from each other, so eating breakfast is comfortable and feels like a nice brunch place. The grounds are beautiful and the walking path and woods in the back were unexpected and a very nice treat. You could see a sliver of the lake from our room, but there's a busy road and trees blocking most of any lake view. However, the saving grace is that you can walk over to an overlook park on the bluff a few steps down the highway and have amazing views. It was awesome. We also watched the sunset from there and stopped by before leaving St. Joseph. Free and fast Wi-Fi, which is great with the horrid AT&T coverage in the area. Price: We received a discounted opening special rate, which made the stay per night only $25 more a night than the Holiday Inn Express down the street. Best $25 I've ever spent, hah. Still, it's not cheap to stay at a place like this, but man it's worth it.

I had a dream... that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold soul food to be self-evident, that all food should be created equal." I had a dream that one day on the rolling hills of Michigan, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down to eat together at the table of brotherhood... I had a dream that little children would one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the food they eat but by the quality of it's maker. I had a dream today! And today... That dream came true... Thanks Happy Jacks...
I've been here a couple times now, and here's what I've decided: Pros: the boneless rib tips and their tangy, not overly sweet sauce with just enough heat. Friendly folks at the counter. Cons: the brisket made me sad, more like an overcooked pot roast. Red beans needed a bit more kick, cornbread stuffing had a soapy taste. I'll likely go back for the tips, and to try some of the other items.
This review is based on two separate visits to Happy Jacks. Both my visits were on a week day in early afternoon (between 1330 to 1500.) On both occasions I ordered the rib tips with sides, coleslaw, potato salad and French fries on another occasion. Let's get down to the meat of the review, which were the rib tips. The tips were cooked perfectly, there were moist, soft, and surprisingly mostly boneless. There were hardly any gristle nor fat--which indicated the superfluous quality of the meat. Finally the sauce on the tips was perfect, appropriately tangy with a slow spicy burn that settles nicely after a few minutes of eating. The sides. Coleslaw and potato salad garner a solid 3 stars. Nothing outstanding but they complemented the BBQ nicely. Environment: Austere and clean. At Happy Jacks, you are there for the food. I would definitely recommend Happy Jacks Barbeque & Southern Cooking and I look forward to visiting their establishment again.

Tried all the pizza places around St Joe and Jets is our go to place for delivery. Awesome thin crust!!! Silver Beach is good but at the same time I'm trying to save for retirement $$$$. And why anyone would even eat a Papa Johns pizza I still don't know why?? Way to go Jets, keep up the good work!!
Just had new thin crust pizza. It's fantastic and cheaper than Silver Beach. Of course there's a better variety of pizzas at SB, but if you want to dodge a lot of the out-of-towners during the summer, grab some Jet's.
I first had Jet's in Lansing, and was very happy when they put a store in my neighborhood. Their deep dish is by far the best of its kind among chain pizza places in the area. Actually, for Berrien county, I'm not sure there's a better deep dish. The crust almost has a sourdough / beer smell and taste, and I mean that in a GOOD way. Their other pizzas are okay, but deep dish is the star. Other pizza places can be better on price, and their delivery charge is higher than anyone else around here. Regardless, still recommended.

As a vegan, I really appreciate the fact that SBP carries a non-dairy cheese (Daiya) so I can have any pizza on the menu (minus the meat). This is a simple thing for a pizza place to do to accommodate more people (vegans and those with dairy allergies), but few go the extra mile. I went there with my extended family after a trip to the beach, and everyone was very happy with the pizzas. I wish the website was working so I could remember what I ordered, but it was delicious with grilled asparagus and mushrooms among other things. I visited while on a mini-vacation; however, this was so good that I may make a special trip the next time I am close to the area. What a great restaurant for a beach town!
There are certain places that have an item you cannot find or reproduce no matter how hard you try... This place is an example of that! To be exact the pizza.... The Greek pepperoni pizza.... The crust is ... Crispy.... Chewy amazing! They sauce is spicy, aromatic and almost erotic... The toppings are flavourful and fresh ... yet not overpowering... Just right! Just right..... To add something else the hot b spicy baked wings to start are so good ... U wouldn't know they were baked.... So crispy and juicy.... Foodgasm damn!... Gotta change my shirt .... Drooled all over it while waiting for the food.. This place gets super busy in the summer... Be prepared to wait ... It's worth it!
Definitely a regular stop on our summer vacation now. SO good. Our favorites are the meat pizza...SO many amazing toppings with a perfectly crisped thin crust... And my personal favorite is the BBQ chicken pizza. . Better than any chain anywhere. And Kris, our server, was perfect for our large group. My only complaint us that we can't visit more often!

A little slow but their fries, burgers, and hotdogs are worth the couple minutes of waiting. Closed on Sundays unfortunately.
They only accept cash, so be prepared. I recommend finding their menu online before visiting as the drive through sign doesn't tell you what's on their burgers. The deluxe cheesburger was excellent. The green olives, albeit an odd choice for a burger, were a nice salty addition. Would have liked some bacon on there, but not necessary. The jumbo Chicago dog ($0.75 to upgrade to jumbo) was by far my favorite item. Probably the best Chicago dog I've had outside of Chicago. The service could have been better. The young woman who took our order wasn't all that welcoming and appeared to be annoyed that we pulled in. I chalk that up to her being a modern teen in Michigan so I didn't take it personally, however I do believe employees at eating establishments should thank their patrons for choosing their location.
We're fairly new to the area, and took a ride to St. Joseph today (gotta take advantage of a rare warm day, ya know). The Neon Grill caught our eye - luckily for us. We each got regular hamburgers and fries, and they were just fantastic. My husband, not one to rave, kept saying variations of, "This is the best hamburger I've had in a LONG time." Even once we got home, he was still mentioning it. The burgers were obviously freshly made. Fries were fantastic and lightly seasoned -- not with that orange, fake overly-seasoned stuff, thankfully. We will DEFINITELY be back, and now we know to try the shakes (diet be damned)!

Chicken is good and service is great! Keep up yhe good work.
One of the best places for fried chicken locally. I'm not saying it is worth a Michelin Star, but the place serves some damn good fried chicken. Crispy skin with moist meat. If you're lucky, you may find them grilling racks of ribs behind the restaurant. Tasty stuff.
Great homestyle southern food at a great price. good fried chicken, fish, and pies, and good service! This is the "real deal."

The best place to relax with a cup of coffee/glass of wine and friends in St. Joe. They also serve great food, my favorites including a baked goat cheese salad and the NE clam chowder, yum!
I was disappointed. They had a great concept, and failed to execute. The menu was interesting and exciting but the food was overpriced and bland. My boyfriends standard sandwich was good, but overpriced. The side of barley salad was appreciated but lacked flavor. My portabella sandwich had no seasoning and there was entirely too much bread. I just ate the mushroom because the bread was too much... sadly the mushroom was undercooked. I was also taken aback by how bad the coffee was. I really, really wanted to like this place, but I feel it didn't live up to it's atmosphere and menu. I think people get excited when the see the diversity of the menu and how upscale it sounds... really, it simply wasn't executed very well and I left feeling unfulfilled and jiped.
Great coffee and specialty drinks. Super location and atmosphere. Good food at reasonable prices - this should be no more than two $s.

I went with a friend to this restaurant for dinner. I had the gyro combo that was great. To my surprise it was very affordable. I feel like this is the only place closer to me that has fries of great quality and doesn't cost much. What also won my heart was the baklava. It was made perfectly. Compared to the baklava at La Pita, this is perfect. It cost less than theirs and is bigger.
Great Food They have a large selection and great food I think their customer service is good

Is there anything better than a soft, fresh garlic bagel with cream cheese? Maybe so, but sometimes it doesn't feel like it. BSC's bagels are always nearly perfect. If you're lucky enough to stumble in when a batch is fresh out of the ovens, so much the better.
