Wow, I'm totally shocked that Baldo's only has 3 stars. Well, for those of you who want to know the real deal on this place, I grew up 5 minutes down the street from this family-owned Italian restaurant, this was my first job, and my parents have been eating this food since they were 14, so listen up... Baldo's is a family-owned restaurant, opened by a mom and pop who have serious Italian accents. The three sons now run the restaurant and they're all sweet guys. I know many of the people who have and do work here still, and they're all good people. Now, onto the food... This is Italian done right. Their minestrone soup is crave worthy. The chicken noodle soup is made with ball noodles which is fun and delicious. They have some delicious rolls here. The bread is made in house daily. You can get a loaf of sliced or unsliced bread for about a buck fifty here and it's pure down home goodness. The pizza is awesome. My mom is obsessed with the Baldo's Special. It's pretty damn good. They have subs too, which are great. If I had to guess, I'd say the steak and cheese is most popular, and with good reason. Since I've been away from home, I crave Baldo's steak and cheese. Anyway, everything they make here is great. Broasted chicken is amazing. I also looove their cheese ravioli. It's so perfect. I know a lot of people who love the gnocchi here, however I haven't had it so can't give my opinion. When you order take-out, the salad comes in a cute little take-out container similar to a Chinese take-out box. The cannolis are awesome. Parking lot is small and a little cramped. As someone else mentioned, they do cater to parties. They have a backroom set aside for large parties. My family has held a few parties here over the years and they've always been great. They also have delivery service. I must say, our area is blessed to have Baldo's!! Love it, been loving it for years and will for many more! Definitely give this place a go. You will not leave hungry or unhappy :)

One of my favorite Italian restaurants downriver. The food is amazing, the service is great, and the atmosphere is nice. This is a restaurant that even if there is a wait longer than 20 minutes, we wait. The bread is so yummy and my favorite dish is the penne with meat sauce. As a true blood Italian I can honestly say this food is the closest I've had to my grandma's cooking in a long time.

pretty typical for Italian. they have all the dishes you'd expect plus a comfortable atmosphere. Can't remember what I had last time but I don't remember it being a bad experience. I guess if you're hungry and in the area you should try them out. waitstaff is friendly.

Great food. Great service. The only reason it's not a 5 is that the prices are slightly higher than you'd expect. Great place to go.

My bestie and I have eaten here twice. The Fettucini Alfredo is so good! They have festive awesome drinks and the prices are great as well. The bread they give before your meal is very yummy, and their canolli's are awesome as well! friendly staff and awesome food will keep us coming back!

I had been hearing how good Baldo's pizza was for some time now so I jumped at the chance when some friends suggested going there. Have to honestly say I was unimpressed. It tasted good, but it was nothing special. I could have got a better pizza for half the price I paid here. The waitress also let brought me a sample of the restaurants meat sauce that they put on their pasta dishes. I am glad I did not get a pasta dish. The sauce was bitter tasting. Although the people around me seemed to enjoy their chicken parmagian and shrimp alfredo, I will probably not be back. Prices were outrageous too.

I tried it on a takeout order got the lasagna, pizza and breadsticks!!!! Ohhh crap sorry not super impressed.... I dunno maybe it's me.. However I don't like many italian joints..why ? To be quite frank...I like to cook and feel I can do a better job....so just maybe.. Just maybe I'm an Italian snob whose not really italian... Go figure I'm at a loss ; )

Have ordered the sammiches from here for pick up at work more than a few times and has never disappointed us. The Baldos's is fantastic. An Italian with all the trimmings couldn't say I've had better other than my uncle's house, but unfortunately I told my PIC how good it was so we ordered take out and it didn't impress her my bad. I will always promote this local business as I believe we should always help our local community businesses sorry babe but I LIKE IT.

Great food and a family friendly restaurant. Baldos is always busy, for me that is an indication of a top notch restaurant! Pasta is cooked al dente, sauce is flavorful.( would make my grandma proud) The house rolls and salad are a great start to your meal. The broasted chicken is tender and juicy, very tasty. Pizza is delicious! Great job Baldos!

Saw that someone said the people that answer the phone weren't nice, but I have to disagree. We order delivery at least twice a month and have for the last 3 years. The ladies who answer are busy but very professional. The food is always good. Maybe a bit pricey for cheesecake at over $5 a slice, but its the best so I pay for it. My favorite is the chicken fingers dinner. Best I've ever eaten. Love their fries. I have had other things but always seem to come back to the chicken fingers. The delivery guys are always very nice and one always brings our maltipoo dog cookies. How sweet is that?

It's nice to have alernate options for Italian that aren't Olive Garden :) Went here for the first time last week. It was quite busy- and the tables are pretty close together. They had beer, which was a surprise to my husband. I had the gnocchi with baked cheese and meatballs. It was very tasty- and there was A LOT leftover for the next day. My husband had the sausage and pepper dish, which he really liked. Their bread is okay- there are better options for bread out there, but it'll do. The salad was a little dissapointing- filled with lettuce pieces that I don't like to eat. A lot of the reviewers have covered most of the basics- it's not too fancy, mostly plain on the inside, etc. Next time I'll try the pizza since that is coming highly reccomended.

  • Tiffany R.

The staff that answers the phone isn't the most friendly. Most of their appetizers are store bought. If you're looking for authentic Italian you should try another restaurant but if you're just looking for something to eat it's not terrible.

Was really hoping for a good Italian meal. WRONG! Pasta was very over cooked and sauce was bland. Hubby had seafood pasta and said the same thing. Alfredo sauce was to thick and bland. Should have just ordered pizza which I hear is pretty good. Sadly a huge expensive disappointment. Big Boy has better spaghetti sauce then Baldos!

My family and I have been going to Baldo's for years, It's one of my favorite restaurants in the area. -Ambiance: It is very low key, casual and no frills, yet seems very clean. Not somewhere to take someone (i.e. a date) if you want to impress them with the romantic atmosphere. It's definitely a family place, and there are usually lots of kids/large groups, and it's not the quietest place around. Consider yourself warned. However the food makes up for all of this... -Service: Again, no frills. Our servers have always been very quick and pleasant, and food is usually served promptly and correctly. - The Food: I love this restaurant because everything is fresh, and tastes homemade. We come here often, and the sauce is a little different each time depending on which chef is there. Sometimes it's a little spicy, sometimes not, but always good. The Minestrone Soup is also a favorite and again, the ingredients will vary depending on what they have that week. Here are the things my family and I order on a regular basis, they have an extensive menu but we love these things so much that we rarely try anything new: Pizza - So good. Especially the crust, which is very bubbly, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Toppings are high quality/premium meats, veggies and cheeses. Rolls- Seem to be made from the same pizza dough with added garlic and spices..they are so, so yummy! Minestone Soup - slightly spicy and loaded with noodles and veggies. Baked Cod - Always consistent, it is a very nice piece of fish and is always baked to perfection in a butter sauce. Comes with baked potato. Baked Mostacioli and Ravioli - This has Baldo's yummy homeade meat sauce and you can order it baked casserole style with lots of bubbly, browned cheese on top! i would highly recommend checking out Baldo's if you are in the area!

I went to Baldo's for a shower. It was on a Sunday at one. You hit the after church crowd dead on. But the shower was partitioned off and you only noticed the crowd walking through the restaurant. This was my first time here, though my aunt had worked here for years decades ago. I loved everything we had. Rolls were hot and plentiful, Salad very well made, Pizza and Mosticolli both outstanding. The service was great. Our waiter did a great job keeping up with clearing the table and serving next course without rushing us. He boxed up leftovers, even separating boxes so the Guest of Honor and hostess could both take leftovers home to their families. Then the icing of the cake, they even helped load up the gifts afterwards. Very good experience. And while some people might not like kids in a restaurant, I was very happy to find another kid friendly restaurant.

Sometimes i wonder where my reviews go because I specifically remember writing a review for this place. Hmmm I'm watching you Yelp. Anyway I've been here many times and it is the favorite restaurant of my very picky mother and brother. My whole family loves it. Homemade food, good service. Good bread and rolls. My mom loves the antipasto salad and dressing. Don't like their cannoli but the tiramisu is good. Banana split cheesecake is ok but didn't taste much like banana split

My first experience with Baldo's was a party pizza someone had delivered to my home during a beer-infested barbecue that was obviously winding down at night. I clearly remember eating cardboard. Thank goodness that was YEARS ago. We stopped in Baldo's because my Mr. was jonesing for Italian food and I really didn't feel like cooking...so off we went. The waiting area has more class than the dining area, but who cares...you are there to eat, not get decorating tips. Its very basic, can be busy, a little crowded, lots of families, and can get loud. Our server was attentive, as speedy as she could be with the amount of tables she handled, and got our order correct. 20% tip for her. The food was yummy. The Mr. got gnocchi with meatballs and sauce covered in cheese casserole-style, and I thought he would hurt himself eating it, it was that good. The sauce was nicely spiced as were the meatballs, the gnocchi obviously homemade and fresh, and the mozzarella covering the dish was high quality cheese. The bread and side salad were fine. I got fish and chips...consisting of nice fillets of cod in a lightly battered, nicely seasoned coating, with fries well done and a house salad. I devoured it. I have also been in the back room for a funeral wake.... and we had pizza and salad for the luncheon. The pizza was basic pepperoni and cheese and was EXCELLENT, nice and hot, the cheese was literally dripping off the side... the antipasto salad with its chunks of meat, plentiful cheese, nicely ripened tomatoes and BIG sliced black olives was outstanding...as was the homemade bread. The only thing I don't like...except for pizza, the carryout does seem pricey. You are graced with slices of that awesome bread....but when you get the entree's accompanying salad in that cute little Chinese container someone else mentioned in a prior review, it is TINY. I mean...it seems insulting to include a salad that is only two bites large. Why bother? And being the lettuce is cut and not torn, you cant really eat it the next day as its already turning brown. For whats being charged for carryout, I would consider improving this salad part if I were in charge of the menu. All in all, Baldo's has really good, fresh food, the service is good, and the price to dine in is reasonable. I'd recommend it.

Once, Baldos was affordable with good food. Sadly both have changed. The food lost some of its luster when they upgraded to their current facility years ago. Now the prices are out of line with the mediocre food. I recently ordered carry out for my family. For two adults and two children worth of carry out the bill was over fifty dollars. I would expect to pay that to dine in, but it seems a bit steep for carry out. As an addendum, I just had lunch at Baldos for the first time in months. I ordered the chicken piccata from the lunch menu. This was by far the WORST piccata I have ever had. The chicken was soft and tasteless, the noodles were soft, the sauce had almost no taste. What a disappointment.

I'll make this quick: If you live in the downriver area or find yourself in said area, the Baldo's Special pizza is the best pizza that can be acquired. You're welcome.

Baldo's has food like my Gram used to make...and praise like that does not come easily. Gram G. was queen of her kitchen with home made sauce and pasta made from scratch. News that she was making gnocchi or ravioli for Sunday dinner made my weekend. She set the standard for me as a youth and I've been trying to recapture those tastes and textures ever since. A traditional "Italian American" restaurant, Baldo's is as good as it gets. The only reason for holding back a star is that the interior is unpretentious and plain. The food is clearly five star. The service is experienced and cheerful. I've had the ravioli and gnocchi here, done casserole style both times. Amazing! The pasta lay just below a surface of molten mozzarella cheese, swimming in a fully flavorful tomato sauce. Yet the dishes avoid mushiness and retain firmness. The meat ravioli paste had a perfect blend of spices and finely ground meat. I'm a restaurant "rubber necker" and everything I've seen other people eat looks delicious. They even have BBQ on the menu but this Texan by choice isn't going to venture there...the only sauce I want when I am at Baldo's is pasta sauce...though the BBQ chicken enjoyed by a neighboring diner was tempting. I encourage Yelpers on the road to make a stop here coming or going from the DTW . It's an exit or two east from the airport, though you do have to make your way "downriver" on Telegraph Road/24 five miles or so before getting there. It's worth the drive, particularly if you are staying near the airport on your travels to greater Detroit. My Gram has been gone for a few years but I can enjoy those tastes and the memories associated with them once again, thanks to Baldo's.

My brother had a recent family event dinner in the back room at Baldo's. We shared the area with what looked like a baby or bridal shower (all chicks, gifts, etc), but the staff did a nice job of separating the two events with some screens. Our family-style dinner consisted of huge pepperoni pizzas, various pastas, meatballs, salad and bread. Pizza was a rectangular deep dish type, and all components were tasty. Beef ravioli were good, and their red sauce was quite good. Meatballs were delicious. I'm not a huge fan of balls of meat, but the grind was fine and the meat was juicy and very flavorful. Salad was fresh. Bread was awesome. I'm a sucker for good bread, and this was go-oood. Bread and meatballs were my winners. One bummer was that they wouldn't let you take any of the leftovers home. While I'm not a huge fan of leftovers, I don't like the idea of them throwing the remaining food away. This was my first time at Baldo's, which surprises me because I grew up downriver. I'd go again. Wonder if you can just order meatballs and bread?

After trying Moro's in Allen Park, I was pretty skeptical about trying another Italian spot downriver. I didn't want to suffer that kind of heartbreak again. I was pleasantly surprised! It tasted like exactly what the reviews say--a good homemade Italian meal. Nothing flashy, but quite good. The ambiance was pretty typical of downriver--no glitz, just a zoo of people sitting in a big dining area. I can't say I was impressed by the setup; it didn't have much character. 'Twas welcoming enough until I sensed that I was in the middle of a giant daycare. A part of me cringed when I realized how many loud and obnoxious children were running around like untamed wildebeest. THERE WERE SO MANY. ALL IN ONE ROOM. NO ESCAPE. If you want to miss the African safari, you should aim for a late dinner. Their numbers declined as the night progressed. I had one of the specials--angel hair pasta with sun dried tomatoes, artichokes (perfectly cooked), chicken, and maybe a couple other ingredients I'm forgetting (capers, perhaps?). The sauce was perfect--a light and lemony olive oil/white wine combination. Lots of flavor and not too heavy. I sampled the lasagna as well and it was very satisfying, albeit heartier than my dish. The tiramisu was tasty, and the almonds were a nice touch. The bread was crispy and fresh, with a subtle sweetness that raises it above the ranks of standard Italian loaves...no pun intended. Not really an ideal spot for a date, but if you want to grab dinner with a pal on the fly this is a solid choice.

This place to me is very "meh" It's not bad, it's not great, it's just good. I've been here a few times and have ordered something different each time; lasagna, chick parm. sampler plate, etc. All got the job done, left me with some leftovers, but never bowled me over with originality or that "wow" factor. If you're looking for a local place with a high floor but low ceiling (meaning they will never wow you but they'll never be gross) This is it. Also, service is prompt, establishment is clean, and clientele is fine.

After a busy staurday night...there were 3 adukts and 2 kids in our party...we had gone from restaurant to restaurant, each having a 50-60 minute wait. We called Baldos and they said they couls get us in within 25 min. so we went there. My friends had been before, but it was my first time. They were very nice and accomodating to us! The Broasted chicken was by far the best I've ever had! The pizza was out of this world, and the chicken soup was wonderful! I wanted to try more of the menu!! I will definately go back to explore more items for sure! The service was also very prompt. Loved Baldos.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
