Service is always great. Food comes out quick. Portions are good size. I appreciate the environment and location. Probably not the best Mexican I've had but very good. I've never gotten a dish I haven't liked.

I live in Rockford so I want to love this place. I don't but I like it pretty well. The food doesn't seem overpriced to me like some reviewers say. I do agree the food can tend toward bland, but it's still enjoyable. I don't know anything about authenticity, but I do wish they used more cheese. I love the salsa and chips.

I found the experience to be dreadful. The booths, while "cute" Mexican are tight and not bolted to the floor...we tried two or three and they literally rocked. Sun blinded our eyes from three different tables, food mediocre and prices inflated since they first opened, and margaritas WAY overpriced for what you get. I won't be back.

Great salsa with lots of cilantro and fresh hot chips started the meal out right, then the strawberry daiquiri didn't skimp on the liquor and well blended, my main course was the chicken chimichanga, portion was large so I took one chimichanga and half my rice home. Couldn't be good for you though, if your looking for a low cal meal this place won't do but if you want to fulfill that salty carb rich craving go for it. Topped the meal off with fried cheesecake which was hot on the outside and cool cheesecake inside- delicious! Decor and music is what I've typically seen in a Mexican restaurant. I'll be back in.

Over priced Rockford food. There are better Mexican restaurants out there, save your money.

I love this restaurant. It has reasonably priced food and drinks. The salsa is amazing. My favorite dish is a seafood enchilada with white cheese sauce. Amazing! Their margarita drinks are pretty good. Every time I am in there, there are Mexican families eating, which is a good sign.

Real good food. Clean nice chicken burrito and salsa is fresh. Nice air conditioned and great seats and service.

The food is WAAAAAYYYYY overpriced, and on the bland side of marginally decent. The menu never changes, but the food is consistent and comes very quickly. (You know a burrito shouldn't cost $13 when it is ready about 3 minutes after you order....and it's not filled with bald eaglets or something). The manager (slightly overweight cross-eyed latino guy) is kind of a jerk. It was a beautiful day and the five of us asked to sit outside on the upper balcony....because none of the tables were taken. He mumbled out some b.s. about tables being for two or four. I told him we didn't care, we'd push two of the two tables together and it would be fine as three of us were under 8 years old. Again, he mumbled something about how he didn't want that. We ended up eating there anyway, as we have several times because we were already there. So the outside tables were empty when we got there, when we were there, and when we left. We won't be going back. Seems a silly way to lose fairly regular customers, just because of a fussy jerk manager. I'd recommend you take your business elsewhere.

Rockford's Cinco de Mayo Mexican restaurant....YUCK! Really BAAAAD Food! We tried twice ordering combo plates to sample a variety of what they have to offer. Don't waste your money. You'd be better off going to Taco Bell. We tried the chimichangas, tacos, enchiladas, burritos ...all BAD, BAD, BAD! The ground beef taco meat tasted like some horrid, cheap canned meat. What a disappointment! I was so wishing we'd like it. Only liked: Margaritas (strong), free chips and salsa and Nachos Carbon.

Food was good. They also have big beers here. I didn't have one, but you can't miss them. To get the most out of your money to to Cinco de Mayo during lunch time.

We have been to Cinco de Mayo on several occasions and me and my wife both really like the food. The service is hit and miss but price is good and usually very fast. If you like Burrito Loco it's worth a visit.

Great, speedy service. Delicious food, but it's all just a tad expensive. The interior is decorated beautifully.

When most of your free time is spent walking around Rockford or the Rogue River trails it's amazing how you still miss places until you start hankering for some delicious noms - as was the case with our experience with what probably is the best Mexican place we have in town. Reading the reviews on here while we looked through the lengthy menu, one came away feeling trepidation for what the evening would bring. I was slightly disappointed with the lack of Pollo Mole that was featured in one of the online menus - but most online menus are what customers upload. The interior of the restaurant is very colorful, hand carved tables with glass covering the surfaces with very creative and colorful sitting to match. The walls are painted to mirror Spanish stories (Don Quixote). Upper terrace overlooking the street looks like a pleasant area to sit in the evening during these warm summer nights in Rockford. The service was very patient with us as we looked over the lengthy menu, everything looked delicious. You are served chips before you make your order, the salsa that comes with it was not too spicy - very nice for those that don't want their mouths scorching before ordering drinks. You can always add more fire with the tabled hot sauce. My girlfriend and I ordered Chicken Quesadilla and Chicken Chimichanga. We only were talking for ten minutes before our food arrived hot and delicious. No complaints, I was expecting my chimichanga to be oily like most I have had in Grand Rapids area, but I was pleasantly surprised on how flavorful and "not at all greasy" it was. Plate was hot but I was warned about that by our polite waiter. Overall a wonderful meal that we would have finished with sopapillas with ice cream but we were too full to take advantage of. A nice diamond of Spanish cuisine in little Rockford. Looking forward to visiting again.

We go to Cinco De Mayo several times a year. Is it the best mexican you'll ever have? No. But it's close and convenient and some of the items on their menu are very good. If you are looking for something lower calorie, I would recommend the chili appetizer or I usually order the chicken fajitias. It comes with a full sizzling hot plate of chicken and veggies, along with another plate of toppings. I can never eat all of the chicken and veggies, so it makes for great left overs the next day. My absolute favorite item on the menu are the Taquitos. They are basically a rolled tortilla that is stuffed with shredded beef/chicken, cooked in the fryer and then covered in shredded cheese. They are delicious and my oldest son, wife and myself will order that almost every time we go to CInco De Mayo. The service is good and it's nice to have some variety in downtown Rockford to choose from.

Cannot say enough good things about everything food to decor and service are always good a mainstay go to place for us. portions are great.

Very quick service after ordering our meals. Lots to choose from on the menu. The combo seem to be mostly the same meat repackaged into a taco/burrito/enchilada.

Poor service and the food is worse. We asked to sit outside and the person at the front told us to seat ourselves so we had to wander around trying to find the way to the deck outside. Then, when a wealthier-looking couple walked in, the guy walks them to the deck outside and ensured they had menus. Food is awful and there is nothing authentic about it. It is basically Sisco processed food that tastes like a cafeteria. I would not recommend this place.

No no no no no. This place is so wrong. My boyfriend and another couple were craving some mexican food and went here on Sunday evening. Um... basically.... I have nothing good to say about this place. It wasn't the worst place I've ever been, but it was not good. The food was VERY mediocre at best. Way overpriced for the quality and overall left me feeling underwhelmed and bloated from all the salt. I got the chile verde pork dish and it literally was a few pork tips covered in a green sauce that had absolutely NO flavor. They might as well have been covered in green-colored water. The side of rice was more flavorful, but that's only because it was so salty it'd be hard to miss it. My friend got 3 tacos, and the meat in all of them was burnt and it didn't look appetizing at all. Plus they got his order wrong anyway. Twice actually. They forgot to put cheese in the tacos, and they forgot his side of rice. The waiter also was very lazy. Almost insultingly so. The place was NOT busy. With our table included, they had maybe a total of 3-4 tables to serve with 3 waiters. We never got refills on our beverages the whole night, even with completely empty glasses in front of our faces. I even asked for more water at one point, and after smiling and saying "sure!", our waiter never returned. He also kept piling on all these dishes (from the missed orders, an extra plate with the rice, an extra plate with the missing cheese, etc.) and he was literally throwing them all around with no room. It was getting ridiculous. The chip basket was empty, but he just kept shoving it around trying to make room. I eventually just picked it up, with the salsa dish, and handed it to him in order to make the table more comfortably spaced. We sat on the first floor, in a booth, and there are TVs down there. Our waiter and one other waiter were literally sitting at an empty table two booths away from us and watching a soccer match on the tv. Right in front of our faces. So you are getting paid to sit and watch a soccer game, not serve us the correct orders or refill our drinks? Even after he returned again with the checks, I asked again for more water (I was in desperate need from all the salt in the meal). He took our credit cards and said he'd be right back with water as well. NOT 5 seconds later (since he literally swiped the cards at the counter a few steps away from us and just walked back), he returned with the bills and swiped cards but no water. He said "have a good night!" and walked back to the table to watch soccer. I was appalled.

Not my favorite Mexican food. But better than some. However, there are very non-American Mexican foods on the menu if you dare be a food adventurer. My Anthony Bourdain worshipping son tried tongue tacos. Ok, warning...these smell. And not good. Our deal was he had to eat one no matter what. He doesn't want tongue again. :) I had fantastic tamales here though! Really delicious. I'd go again and concentrate on their tamales. The chicken flautas were good too. It's hit or miss depending on what you order. The menu is huge. Perhaps they could condense their offerings so that they concentrate on making some things particularly well. 6-8 page menus are overkill. Wait staff are all extremely nice. I note many diners treating them sub humanly because English is not their first language. They do take special orders (despite other reviewers) and accommodate to what you desire, just try asking politely. They always get the orders 100% correctly, and the food comes amazingly fast, even during busy times. The Dos XX beer special is great. It is HUGE and very inexpensive. I love the salsa because it has a lot of fresh cilantro. I don't see that enough in salsa.

Pretty much the same as El Burrito. Extensive menu. I had the Ranchero Burrito, which was excellent. Authentic? Eh, but it was good nonetheless. Chips are good, the salsa is more like red salty water. Wish they would state weather they will take your check or if they want you to pay up front when you leave. Not a destination spot, but we'll probably come back at some point.

I've been here once. Basically the same menu as el burrito. Authentic, greasy and good. I will probably not go here again seeing as el burrito is cheaper, and it doesn't hurt your eyes with the crazy ass decor as soon as you walk in the door, as you can see in the picture. No alcohol yet, but the food came out fast and hot.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
